For many of the developer's enthusiastic fans, there aren't really any other games that hit the same way a FromSoftware title does, especially in the immediate run-up to a new one like Elden Ring Nightreign. I count myself among that anticipatory group, and have found myself less interested in other games after getting a few brief tastes of Nightreign when I previewed it, and later played the Closed Network Test. Nerscylla is one of many recurring monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, and makes for a tough opponent in the early-mid game. Nerscylla is easily recognizable by the purple crystalline spines that jut out of its back, and its bright red front claws. First introduced in Monster Hunter 4, it's a Temnoceran-type monster, which places it in a category with a wide variety of other arachnid enemies. It's known for its deadly mandibles, which it hides behind a hard carapace until it's ready to attack. It can inflict poison attacks on the player. View the full article
I'm a huge fan of legendary indie horror game dev Steelkrill. They are an extremely creative developer that has made some of the most fun horror games I've played in recent years. Unfortunately, it appears as though a fraudulent company has ripped their entire latest release and is attempting to sell it as their own. One of Steelkrill's first titles was The Backrooms 1998, released into Early Access in 2022 as a first-person found footage psychological horror game that tells the story of a young teen who fell into the depths of the Backrooms from popular internet creepypasta culture. After a few years of development, Steelkrill is ready to take The Backrooms 1998 out of Early Access and into full release with a new version including improved enemy AI, bug fixes, more jump scares, and more. Alongside the full launch PC release, Steelkrill also intended to release The Backrooms 1998 on consoles. However, when they went to do so, they discovered that a fake company had literally managed to rip all of The Backrooms 1998 and upload it to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch as if it were their own game titled Backrooms Horror Escape. Comparing the real game, The Backrooms 1998, to the fake scam game, Backrooms Horror Escape, it's very obvious they blatantly ripped the assets, UI, and everything, and simply added a filter or changed various post processing effects to make it look slightly different. Since discovering the scam, Steelkrill issued a DMCA for the stolen assets and game to all the platforms on which it was listed. It's since been taken down from PlayStation and Xbox, but at the time of publishing this article, it's still up on the Nintendo eShop. According to Steelkrill, Nintendo followed up on the DMCA request asking for clarification as to why they think the fake company stole their game. Steelkrill was quick to point out that not only are the stolen assets a dead giveaway, but the source code itself for the fake game shows all the same properly named assets from The Backrooms 1998, and even includes a VHS home video from when they were younger that plays at the start of the game. After doing a little digging, it appears this isn't the first time this fake company has done this. Under the name 'COOL DEVS S.R.L.', whoever is behind the scam has also fake ripped game versions of Chained Together under the title Chained Towards Heaven, and TCG Card Shop Simulator under the title TCG Empire: Card Shop Simulator. I even found a couple titles currently listed on Steam that are blatant rip offs of existing games on the platform. For example, a ripped version of Supermarket Simulator called Supermarket Simulator Holidays 2025 that just has it randomly snowing with brighter assets, and another ripped version of TGC Card Shop Simulator also simply with brighter assets called Trade 'Em Up! TCG Empire Shop. Reading over some responses to what's going on, it seems as though whoever isn't behind this isn't only ripping off developers' hard work, the stolen games aren't even in a playable state. Several players have admitted they were duped only to find the game they brought to be broken and unplayable. It's really a shame to see this happen to such an amazing developer like Steelkrill. They have an especially unique ability to create horror games that incorporate the latest gaming trends—such as The Stairway 7, an anomaly loop game like Exit 8—or try something completely different and new like Rotten Flesh, a cosmic horror game in which you must search for your run away dog in some creepy sewers while calling for him using your microphone. I've enjoyed all of their releases and am anxiously awaiting the upcoming release of The 18th Attic. Steelkrill wants players to keep an eye out and be careful to check the games they are purchasing to make sure they are legitimate, as well as the developer accounts of those selling them. For developers, Steelkrill says they should make sure to use IL2CPP in their code, which can help obfuscate the code and make it harder to steal. The post A fake company has stolen indie horror dev Steelkrill’s newest release and sold it as their own appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
Many Mass Effect fans may not know that the first game's planet, "Therum," was originally supposed to be much different. In earlier versions of ME1, Therum went by another name, Caleston, and had an entirely different story centered around a shady criminal underworld. However, most of this content was cut from the game before release. View the full article
Monster Hunter Wilds focuses much more on its story than previous Monster Hunter games. The story largely revolves around Nata, a young member of a tribe that inhabits a region known to outsiders as the Forbidden Lands. Due to its hostile weather events and the prevalence of large monsters there, those who live outside the Forbidden Lands believe it to be uninhabitable - until Nata shows up at the doorstep of a hunters' academy, explaining that his tribe was attacked and needs help. Welcome to Beyond! Game Club, a new segment for podcast Beyond! where each month we will be picking games to play as a group and talking about our experiences as we progress through them. The games will range from various classics to quintessential PlayStation games we consider must plays, and even revisiting some recent favorites to prepare for upcoming sequels (looking at you Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei)! However, for March we decided it would be a great time to revisit one of our favorite superhero games of all time: Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's been at least 10 years since many of us dove into 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum and now feels like the perfect time to revisit the game that almost singlehandedly revitalized the superhero genre. Whether it was the excellent freeform combat of snapping back and forth between enemies with precision, to unleashing devastating kicks or takedowns, or the way it trained our detective skills to solve the numerous riddles by the Riddler – Arkham Asylum gave us the best depiction (for its time) of Batman and what it would be like to wear the cowl. The Beyond! team is eager to dive back into this amazing game, and over the month of March we will be talking about it weekly on each episode of the podcast as well as updating this column with our thoughts and hope that you will all do the same in the comments below. Following the hotly contested debacle surrounding the removal and eventual reinstatement of Hextech Chests in League of Legends, one creative fan made a 48-second animation recreating a famous battle within the game’s lore. The animation, which was made by a single creator on YouTube named Yaroslav Zaytsev, has quickly garnered just under 45,000 views and will probably amass plenty more. The cinematic takes place in Ionia, where the war-mongering, expansionist, and in this case capitalistic, nation of Noxus has been replaced by Riot Games’ headquarters. The innocent people of Ionia no longer wear traditional armor, and are instead decked out in Hextech Chests as they prepare to fight for the honor and reinstation of this free monetary system. I'm not really a big fan of survival games, but occasionally one will grab me. Subnautica is probably the best example—I went into it with modest expectations and it quickly became one of the most compelling games I'd played in years. I have my fingers crossed for a similar experience with The Last Caretaker, an upcoming "first-person survival shooter" that sets players off as an android awakened centuries after Earth has been swallowed by climate catastrophes, with one simple goal: Save the human race...
