Biden diagnosed with aggressive prostate ******* Biden diagnosed with aggressive prostate ******* Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate *******, his office says. Biden was seen last week by doctors after ******** symptoms and a prostate nodule was found. He was diagnosed with prostate ******* on Friday, with the ******* cells having spread to the bone. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the ******* appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” his office said on Sunday. “The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.” Prostate cancers are given a score called a Gleason score that measures, on a scale of one to 10, how the cancerous cells look compared with normal cells. Biden’s office said his score was nine, suggesting his ******* is among the most aggressive. When prostate ******* spreads to other parts of the body, it often spreads to the bones. Metastasised ******* is much harder to treat than localised ******* because it can be hard for drugs to reach all the tumours and completely root out the disease. However, when prostate cancers need hormones to grow, as in Biden’s case, they can be susceptible to treatment that deprives the tumours of hormones. The health of Biden, 82, was a dominant concern among voters during his time as president. After a calamitous debate performance in June while seeking reelection, Biden abandoned his bid for a second term. Then-Vice President Kamala Harris became the nominee and lost to Republican Donald Trump, who returned to the White House after a four-year hiatus. But in recent days, Biden rejected concerns about his age despite reporting in the new book Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson that aides had shielded the public from the extent of his decline while serving as president. In February 2023, Biden had a skin lesion removed from his chest that was a basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin *******. And in November 2021, he had a polyp removed from his colon that was a benign, but potentially pre-cancerous lesion. In 2022, Biden made a “******* moonshot” one of his administration’s priorities with the goal of halving the ******* death rate over the next 25 years. The initiative was a continuation of his work as vice president to address a disease that had killed his older son, Beau. Elon Musk Is Doing Business With Actual Terrorists, Nonprofit Finds Elon Musk Is Doing Business With Actual Terrorists, Nonprofit Finds Who’s paying for a blue checkmark on X-formerly-Twitter these days? According to a new report by the big tech accountability nonprofit Tech Transparency Project (TTP), the answer is: a bunch of terrorists. The TTP investigation found that more than 200 X users including individuals who appear to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, ******, the Houthis, and Syrian and Iraqi militia groups — all deemed foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs) by the US government — are paying for subscriptions to Elon Musk’s X. Put simply, Musk is doing business with actual terrorists, highlighting major flaws in his social media company’s content moderation practices. These paid subscriptions are granting apparent terrorists blue verification badges, which can offer the accounts an added air of legitimacy. Most importantly, though, the subscriptions are granting the users access to premium X features and perks like content monetization tools, the ability to publish longer posts and videos, and greater platform reach — which the TTP says allows for terrorism-linked users to more effectively distribute and monetize propaganda, as well as promote their fundraising efforts. “They rely on the premium services for the amplification of long propaganda posts and extended videos,” TTP director Katie Paul told The New York Times. “They are not just subscribing for the blue check notoriety, they are subscribing for the premium services.” As the TTP points out, X’s terms of use forbid users from paying for premium services if they’re affiliated with groups under US economic sanctions, including ones imposed by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. Neither X nor the Treasury Department responded to a NYT request for comment. Though X says it reviews subscribed accounts to ensure they “meet all eligibility criteria” for verification, the feature has been pretty broken since Musk took over the platform and made the feature pay-to-play. What’s more, last year, a similar TTP report found that over two dozen users with apparent terror links were paying X subscribers with blue badges. Several of those accounts were banned or stripped of their verification status following the release of the report, but as the NYT points out, several have since been able to regain access to premium features. The TTP investigation raises serious questions about X’s due diligence around content moderation and platform safety. After all, if X can suppress users that Musk doesn’t like, and speech that authoritarian governments don’t like, can’t it keep US-designated terrorists — whether they’re the real deal or impersonators — from nabbing blue checks and using X perks to spread and cash in on propaganda? “There is clear evidence of these groups profiting and fundraising through X,” Paul told the NYT. “They are sanctioned for a reason, and the fact that somebody who has such influence and power in the federal government is at the same time profiting from these designated terrorist groups and individuals is extremely concerning.” More on X dot com: Elon Musk’s Unhinged Grok AI Is Rambling About “White Genocide” in Completely Unrelated Tweets Source link #Elon #Musk #Business #Actual #Terrorists #Nonprofit #Finds Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Roglic and Aussie hope Storer ****** at Giro d’Italia Roglic and Aussie hope Storer ****** at Giro d’Italia Australia’s roller-coaster Giro d’Italia adventure has taken a turn for the worse after Michael Storer, their top hope for overall success, suffered a ****** on a tough, dusty day that may have severely dented his hopes of grand tour success. Storer hit the deck with about 50km to go on the 181km ninth stage from Gubbio to Siena, that included some of the demanding white, gravel roads of Tuscany which are a feature of the region’s famous Strade Bianche one-day race. The Tudor Pro leader remounted and battled home in 25th place, but he was nearly two-and-a-half minutes behind the stage winner, Wout van Aert, and dropped from sixth place overall to 11th, now three minutes and three seconds behind the surprise new young owner of the maglia rosa leader’s jersey, Isaac del Toro. It was the latest drama to envelop an *********** rider after Jai Hindley’s early abandonment and Kaden Groves’ stage win, both on Thursday, and Luke Plapp’s fantastic victory on Saturday. The 21-year-old del Toro, only supposed to be a support rider for UAE Team Emirates, became the first ******** cyclist ever to lead the race even though he was beaten on the line for the stage win by van Aert after a terrific duel. But the ******* dramas had also erupted behind as not just Storer, but other major contenders – headed by race favourite Primoz Roglic – suffered crashes. In the five-time Grand Tour winner’s case, Roglic not only tumbled on the second of the five gravel sectors amid the dust and grit being kicked up by the cyclists, but he also suffered a puncture soon afterwards and had to change bikes. Roglic ended up finishing 2:22 on the day and has dropped from second overall to 10th, 2:25 behind the leader but, more significantly, 1:12 behind the man considered his main challenger for the crown, Spain’s Juan Ayuso, who’s lying second overall behind his UAE lieutenant del Toro. “We take it, we finish it and I have to see what to do next,” said the imperturbable Roglic. “We will see. I mean, we’ll see at the end what that means.” After the ****** chaos which also caught up luminaries like Tom Pidcock and Brandon McNulty, there was only delight for van Aert, one of the stars of the sport, as he enjoyed his first win of the season, a redemptive ride after an injury-hit 2024 campaign and an unconvincing start to 2025. It was the 30-year-old’s first stage win on his Giro debut to go with his nine stage wins at the Tour de France and three at the Spanish Vuelta. “It’s easy to say this victory means a lot to me, I almost cannot explain it,” the emotional Belgian said. “It had to be here I believe because this place is where my road career started back in 2018 and to win this stage after a long ******* without delivering, finally again, it feels so good.” Monday is the race’s second rest day before a 28.6km individual time trial from Lucca to Pisa when Roglic will be fancied to claw back time. Clues and answer for Sunday, May 18 Clues and answer for Sunday, May 18 Hey, there! We hope you’re having a terrific weekend. Whatever you’re doing today, we have our fingers crossed that your Wordle streak keeps rolling along. Actually, we can help make sure that happens. Here’s our daily Wordle guide with some hints and the answer for Sunday’s puzzle (#1,429). It may be that you’re a Wordle newcomer and you’re not completely sure how to play the game. We’re here to help with that too. What is Wordle? Wordle is a deceptively simple daily word game that first emerged in 2021. The gist is that there is one five-letter word to deduce every day by process of elimination. The daily word is the same for everyone. Wordle blew up in popularity in late 2021 after creator Josh Wardle made it easy for players to share an emoji-based grid with their friends and followers that detailed how they fared each day. The game’s success spurred dozens of clones across a swathe of categories and formats. The New York Times purchased Wordle in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The publication said that players collectively played Wordle 5.3 billion times in 2024. So, it’s little surprise that Wordle is one of the best online games and puzzles you can play daily. How to play Wordle To start playing Wordle, you simply need to enter one five-letter word. The game will tell you how close you are to that day’s secret word by highlighting letters that are in the correct position in green. Letters that appear in the word but aren’t in the right spot will be highlighted in yellow. If you guess any letters that are not in the secret word, the game will gray those out on the virtual keyboard. You’ll only have six guesses to find each day’s word, though you still can use grayed-out letters to help narrow things down. It’s also worth remembering that letters can appear in the secret word more than once. Wordle is free to play on the NYT’s website and apps, as well as on Meta Quest headsets. The game refreshes at midnight local time. If you log into a New York Times account, you can track your stats, including the all-important win streak. How to play Wordle more than once a day If you have a NYT subscription that includes full access to the publication’s games, you don’t have to stop after a single round of Wordle. You’ll have access to an archive of more than 1,400 previous Wordle games. So if you’re a relative newcomer, you’ll be able to go back and catch up on previous editions. In addition, paid NYT Games members have access to a tool called the Wordle Bot. This can tell you how well you performed at each day’s game. Portugal PM’s party set to win vote without majority Portugal PM’s party set to win vote without majority Portugal’s ruling centre-right Democratic Alliance was poised to win the most votes in an early parliamentary election, but short of a full majority, exit polls showed, paving the way for more political instability in the country. The election, the third in as many years, was called just one year into the ********* government’s term after Prime Minister Luis Montenegro failed to win a parliamentary vote of confidence in March when the opposition questioned his integrity over dealings of his family’s consultancy firm. Montenegro has denied any wrongdoing and most opinion polls showed that voters have dismissed the opposition’s criticism. The election, also dominated by issues such as housing and immigration, follows a decade of fragile governments; the only one of which to have a parliamentary majority still collapsed halfway through its term last year. Exit polls published on Sunday by the three main television channels – SIC, RTP and TVI – put Montenegro’s AD as receiving between 29 per cent and 35.1 per cent of the vote, garnering the biggest share but again no parliamentary majority, similar to what happened in the previous election in March 2024. According to the exit polls, Montenegro’s main rival, the centre-left Socialist Party (PS) garnered between 19.4 per cent and 26 per cent of the vote, nearly tied with the far-right Chega party’s 19.5-25.5 per cent share, which is higher than the 18 per cent it won in 2024. Montenegro has refused to make any deals with Chega. Political scientist Antonio Costa Pinto said the new parliament would likely be similar to the last, and it was impossible to predict how long the government would last, as it depended on factors ranging from the international situation to the AD’s ability to reach deals with other parties. “The only doubt is whether the AD will form a new ********* government … or whether it will form a post-electoral coalition with IL, even if this coalition does not guarantee an absolute majority,” he said, referring to the pro-business Liberal Initiative (IL) party. IL, a party some analysts see as a potential coalition ally of the AD, was likely to garner four to eight per cent of the vote, meaning its potential alliance could only reach a majority of 116 in the 230-seat parliament if both perform at the top of the exit poll estimates. Portugal has outperformed most European Union countries on economic growth, and run budget surpluses and reduced its debts under both centre-left and centre-right governments. But further political instability could delay major projects such as lithium mining in the north, and potentially compromise the long-delayed privatisation of the TAP airline. 60 years after he was hanged, Israel recovers Syrian archive belonging to famous spy 60 years after he was hanged, Israel recovers Syrian archive belonging to famous spy TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel has retrieved thousands of items belonging to the country’s most famous spy after a covert operation in Syria. On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared some of the 2,500 items from the Syrian archive relating to Eli Cohen, an Israeli spy who infiltrated the political echelon in Syria, with Cohen’s widow. Sunday marked 60 years since Cohen was hanged in a square in Damascus. The items recently spirited into Israel include documents, recordings, photos, and items collected by Syrian intelligence after his capture in January 1965, letters in his own handwriting to his family in Israel, photographs of his activity during his operational mission in Syria and personal objects that were taken from his home after his capture. Suitcases of items brought to Israel included worn folders stuffed with handwritten notes, keys to his apartment in Damascus, passports and false identification documents, missions from the Mossad to surveil specific people and places, and documentation of all the efforts of his widow, Nadia Cohen, begging world leaders for his release from prison. Cohen’s success in Syria was one of the Mossad spy agency’s first major achievements, and the top-secret intelligence he obtained is widely credited with helping Israel prepare for its swift victory in the 1967 Middle East War. Eli Cohen managed to forge close contacts within the political and military hierarchy of Israel’s archenemy in the early 1960s, ultimately rising to become a top adviser to Syria’s defense minister. In 1965, Cohen was caught radioing information to Israel. He was tried and hanged in a Damascus square on May 18, 1965. His remains have yet to be returned to Israel, where he is regarded as a national hero. In 2019, actor Sasha Baron Cohen portrayed Eli Cohen (no relation) in a six-episode Netflix series called “The Spy.” “We conducted a special operation by the Mossad, by the State of Israel, to bring his (Eli Cohen’s) archive, which had been in the safes of the Syrian intelligence for 60 years,” Netanyahu told Nadia Cohen on Sunday in Jerusalem. Ahead of viewing the items, Nadia Cohen told Netanyahu that the most important thing was to bring back Cohen’s body. Netanyahu said Israel was continuing to work on locating Cohen’s body. Last week, Israel recovered the body of an Israeli soldier from Syria who had been missing for more than four decades, after he was killed during a clash with Syrian forces in Lebanon in 1982. “Eli is an Israeli legend. He’s the greatest agent Israeli intelligence has had in the years the state existed. There was no one like him,” Netanyahu said. Andrew Miller: Shonky health gurus and anti-vaxxers are as pointless as astrological signs Andrew Miller: Shonky health gurus and anti-vaxxers are as pointless as astrological signs What star sign are you? Mine is *******, which means nothing at all. We don’t involve astrologists in patient care or engineering because people would inevitably die if we relied on fun falsehoods rather than verifiable science. A simple experiment — go back and look at the horoscopes in New York newspapers on the morning of September 11, 2001. Unless they show that everyone was meant to have a one-star day, then we know these predictions are worthless. Also harmless perhaps, but I am not grumpy because I’m Cancerian. I’m just a middle-aged man, disappointed by the decline of Western civilisation — and because Married at First Sight seems to have replaced Shakespeare. Humans often prefer to believe in confident myths rather than simple truths, which are boring and often involve some hard work. Avoid cigarettes and alcohol, get regular exercise and eat a Mediterranean diet in moderation. Yeah, nah — surely there is a supplement or wonder diet I can briefly try instead? Camera Icon“I am not grumpy because I’m Cancerian. I’m just a middle-aged man, disappointed by the decline of Western civilisation” says Dr Andrew Miller. Credit: Jackson Flindell/The West *********** Cash is like science — honest, predictable and very useful. You can rely on fifty bucks to do exactly what it says it will do, so if given the chance to spin nonsense into money, many people will grab it. The multibillion-dollar wellness industry is just another horoscope. Unnecessary remedies for imaginary disorders and unscientific cures for real problems abound. In the US, the sensible leaders of medical science are rapidly being replaced by grifters of alternative medicine, whose only convincing qualification is fealty to President Trump. His latest dramatically inappropriate nominee for US Surgeon-General is Dr Casey Means, who doesn’t even hold a medical licence, but does have more than 800,000 followers on Instagram and a website selling her books, courses, creams, teas and glucose monitors. She stars in nodding podcasts with taglines like “making decisions with our body awareness rather than our rational minds”. Dr Means’ book, Good Energy, couches the standard biochemistry of a healthy diet and exercise as good v bad energy, while suggesting that the evil mainstream medical industry is perpetuating illness for profit. She is an avid fan of anti-vaxxer Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who last week reportedly took his grandkids for a bracing dip in a waterway contaminated with raw sewage. He literally went up s..t creek — you can’t make this stuff up. As a registered healthcare practitioner, I would rightly be disciplined for sabotaging public health, but here in Australia senator Gerard Rennick and others have apparently been amplifying anti-vax, anti-science theories for years. They won’t be helping out when someone’s unvaccinated kid ends up in the ICU with encephalitis or pneumonia from measles. Social media is a monetised, fame-hungry open sewer of misinformation, disinformation and dross, obscuring occasional nuggets of truth. How do the public know what to believe? We must seek out reliable, qualified voices, and having a regular GP is the best place to start. These days I ******** a few regular medications for blood pressure and cholesterol. I even bought a pill dispenser labelled with the days of the week. Next stop, Velcro slippers. The reason I will take whatever my GP recommends is because there is good risk-benefit evidence for them. It’s boring, safe and effective. The new weight loss drugs might be of great assistance to many folks in time — but rely on your GP, not the influencers or drug companies, to help decide what is useful for you. Being born with the right genetics is also handy, but hard to plan. Mum is going strong at 98 — maybe she should pass on more of those good genes. “Think of the reality TV possibilities if you had IVF — we could make a motza!” I told her. “Stop being ridiculous and get me another chocolate,” she said. Typical Aries. Source link #Andrew #Miller #Shonky #health #gurus #antivaxxers #pointless #astrological #signs Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Monumental images of gods discovered at Nineveh in Iraq Monumental images of gods discovered at Nineveh in Iraq ******* archaeologists have made a spectacular discovery in Iraq. During excavations in the ancient metropolis of Nineveh, a team from Heidelberg University came across large parts of a monumental relief. It shows King Assurbanipal (668 to 627 BC), the last ruler of the Assyrian Empire, accompanied by two important deities and other figures. The relief was unearthed in the throne room of the North Palace. It was carved on a massive stone slab measuring just over five metres in length and three metres in height and weighs around 12 tonnes. The find is extraordinary for the scientists not only because of its size, but also in terms of what the relief shows: “Among the numerous relief depictions of Assyrian palaces known to us, there is no depiction of the great deities,” emphasises Prof. Dr Aaron Schmitt from the Institute of Prehistory and Early History and Near Eastern Archaeology. Schmitt is in charge of the excavations in the North Palace. 3D model of the relief: The finds are marked in dark grey, the light grey part is a reconstruction. In the centre is King Assurbanipal, flanked by Assur and Ištar. – Michael Rummel / Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg King Assurbanipal is at the centre of the relief that has now been discovered. He is flanked by two high deities: the god Assur and the city goddess of Nineveh named Ištar. These are followed by a fish genius, who bestows salvation and life on the gods and the ruler, as well as a supporting figure with raised arms; presumably a scorpion man. “These figures suggest that a giant winged sun disc was originally placed above the relief,” explains Schmitt. Based on the data collected on site, the scientists will analyse the finds in the coming months and publish the results in a scientific journal. The relief originally stood in a wall niche opposite the main entrance to the throne room, i.e. in the most important place in the palace, according to Schmitt. The Heidelberg researchers discovered the fragments of the relief in a pit filled with earth. It was probably created in Hellenistic times in the third or second century BC. “The fact that the fragments were buried is certainly one of the reasons why the British archaeologists did not find them more than a hundred years ago,” surmises Schmitt. At the end of the 19th century, British researchers had already examined the northern palace of ancient Nineveh for the first time and discovered large reliefs, which are now on display in the British Museum in London. It is unclear why the relief was buried. Schmitt points out that there is a lack of information about the Hellenistic settlement in Nineveh: “We don’t know whether they had a negative attitude towards the Assyrian king and the Assyrian gods,” he told the science portal “Live Science”. “I hope that our future excavations will give us a clearer picture.” Excavation work in ancient Nineveh. – Aaron Schmitt / Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg Ancient Nineveh is considered one of the most important cities in northern Mesopotamia and developed into the capital of the Assyrian empire in the late eighth century BC under King Sanherib (705 to 680 BC). It was located on the left bank of the Tigris, at the mouth of a small tributary within the modern city of Mosul. Aaron Schmitt and his team have been conducting research on Kuyunjik Hill in the core area of the northern palace built by King Assurbanipal since 2022. The excavations are part of the Heidelberg Nineveh Project launched in 2018 under the direction of Professor Stefan Maul from the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at Heidelberg University. In consultation with the State Board of Antiquities of Iraq (SBAH), the plan is to return the relief to its original location in the medium term and make it accessible to the public.
