The coastal region continues to attract out-of-state movers thanks to its affordability and access to nature. The report found that most Americans are moving to the Southeast, with Ocala, Florida, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina being among the most popular destinations. Fewer Americans are moving each year, with 12.6 percent relocating in 2022, down from 12.8 percent in 2021 and significantly lower than the 16.8 percent who moved in 2006, according to data by the U.S. Census Bureau. However, almost a fifth of those relocating are making their moves count by heading to a different state. And this year, it appears everyone is heading to the southeast. Today, Pods Enterprises, a moving and storage company, released its fifth annual Moving Trends Report, showcasing the U.S. cities with the most move-ins and move-outs. It analyzed its internal long-distance moving numbers between January 2024 and March 2025 to figure out the top spots. The No. 1 destination is a tie between Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Wilmington, North Carolina. “The Myrtle Beach, Wilmington area tops our list for a record-setting third year, suggesting more people may be embracing the idea of living where others vacation,” the report noted. “Living in this southeastern coastal area checks off boxes like affordability, friendliness, and access to nature, though it’s not without risk during the Atlantic hurricane season.” In fact, the company found that states in the Southeast continue to be top draws for movers, with Ocala, Florida, coming in second, followed by Raleigh, North Carolina, and Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, in third and fourth. According to the company, the average distance moved by long-distance Pods customers was nearly 1,300 miles, and almost 92 percent of long-distance moves were out-of-state. “Our fifth annual Moving Trends Report underscores the major trends that have shaped Americans’ moving patterns and preferences over the past few years—an assumed desire for warmer climates, lower costs of living, and a greater focus on balance and quality of life,” Rich Schwartz, the senior vice president of corporate operations at Pods, shared. He added that “while the Southeast continues to dominate the top of the list, we are seeing areas across the South, like Dallas-Fort Worth (No. 5), making big moves.” So, where are people moving from? According to the findings, Southern California leads the pack once again in move-outs. “The Northeast and West Coast continue to see a steady increase in people moving out, likely due to high costs of living, overcrowding, and spiking insurance premiums, among other factors,” Schwartz added. “As economic uncertainty persists and the housing market remains tight, we anticipate a continued migration toward more affordable and emerging markets throughout the country.” And though it didn’t make it into the top 10, Pods noted that there is a “notable uptick in moves to the Midwest” compared to the previous year. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and the head of the government-slashing initiative DOGE, spent more than $250 million helping Trump win a second White House term. But when asked at the Qatar Economic Forum if he will continue spending at that level in upcoming elections, Musk said he would not. “I think, in terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” Musk said. When asked why, he said, “I think I’ve done enough.” But Musk, the world’s richest man, said he may change his mind at some point. “Well, if I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it,” he said. “I do not currently see a reason,” he added. Musk’s remarks will likely come as an unpleasant surprise to Republicans running for reelection in 2026. The Israeli military announced the start of a new operation last week and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel would take control of the whole of Gaza. Israel has blocked the entry of medical, food and fuel supplies into Gaza since the start of March and international experts have warned of looming famine. Foreign minister David Lammy said the offensive was not the way to bring remaining hostages home, called for Israel to end the blockade of aid and condemned what he called “extremism” in some sections of Israel’s government. “We cannot stand by in the face of this new deterioration. It is incompatible with the principles that underpin our bilateral relationship,” Lammy told lawmakers. “Frankly, it’s an affront to the values of the British people. Therefore, today, I’m announcing that we have suspended negotiations with this Israeli government on a new free trade agreement.” Britain, in a joint statement with France and Canada on Monday condemned the expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and called for restrictions on aid to be lifted. Analyst Kristine Liwag reiterated her overweight rating and increased her price target on the stock by $25 to $415. That suggests more than 10% potential upside for the stock, which has already popped more than 26% this year. “Demand for RBC products remains strong across Industrials and Aerospace & Defense end markets,” Liwag wrote in a note to clients. “We continue to view RBC Bearings as a high-quality industrials compounder with attractive growth and margin expansion potential.” Liwag’s new target comes after RBC on Friday reported mixed fiscal fourth-quarter results. The bearings and engineered components maker beat on earnings but fell short of revenue expectations, according to FactSet. RBC boasted strong growth in its aerospace and defense businesses, reporting a year-over-year net sales increase of 10.6% for the fourth quarter and 14.1% for fiscal 2025. It’s seen strength in areas such as fixed-wing aircraft, missiles and guided munitions and space, according to the analysts. Liwag pointed out that RBC management expects strong demand to continue in fiscal year 2026 given expectations for aerospace to be up at least 15% and defense to be up by mid-to-high single digit percentages. Another part of Liwag’s core investment thesis is that RBC has reduced its debt, and she expects it to fall even further by the end of fiscal year 2027. The acquisition of Dodge Mechanical Power Transmission unit has been “game changer” for RBC, she said, explaining that the business generates strong cash flow, which can be funneled to reduce debt. Dodge also has a recurring industrials business and better manufacturing technology from its expertise in factory automation, she said. “RBC’s ongoing success is driven by multiple factors, with ongoing synergies from the Dodge acquisition being the largest contributor,” Liwag wrote in the note. “Given RBC’s improved leverage, we continue to see the potential for accretive M & A following its successful acquisition and integration of Dodge.” Analysts polled by LSEG have an average price target on Boeing shares that indicates about 3% potential upside. Four of the seven analysts covering the stock have a strong buy or buy rating, while three share a hold rating. The report, released by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), shows men earn on average $8200 more than women who work across Commonwealth government agencies, departments and businesses. For every $1 a man earned, a woman made 94 cents. The report found 45 per cent of public sector employers have a median pay gap within five per cent of the target range, compared to 31 per cent of private sector employers. We gave the game a nine and made it the cover and centerpiece of our March 2023 indie issue. It’s a good game that has added various updates like co-op over the last two years. Today, however, the game received its biggest and most impressive update with the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC. It’s a huge addition to the game, adding about eight hours of additional content and story, new mechanics, new art, and it’s completely free, which doesn’t make economic sense, but gratefully, that is not my problem to contend with. I just get to play the thing. Throes of the Watchmaker picks up on a character who, in the main game, seemed important, but couldn’t be bothered to engage with the cast and their adventure. Sea of Stars was not lacking in plot or engaging story elements, but even at the time of release, The Watchmaker seemed like a thread that was going to be picked up later. What’s smart about the DLC is that it sequesters itself away from the main plot and world in a way that lets it stand on its own to a certain degree. Throes of the Watchmaker does not feel like a standalone expansion. It belongs in the larger game, but the way you engage with it takes you out of the world and places you in a new location. And in a way I really appreciate, it kind of makes you start from zero, or at least very near zero. I played Sea of Stars when it released in 2023 and had a great time, but popping back in after all this time was intimidating. Every member of my large party stood around the entrance, ready to jump in, while I was still personally trying to remember everyone’s backstory. Thankfully, the game made an executive decision for me, picked one additional party member for me to take beyond the primary protagonists, and then stripped them of all their abilities and money to make them start over with a whole new suite of attacks. I imagine if you are playing Sea of Stars for the first time now and roll right into this DLC, it might be frustrating to lose all you’ve gained up to that point, but for me, it was a near-required blessing. I got a chance to play through a new trajectory of upgrades and appreciate all the new animations. Developer Sabotage knew players like me would be jumping into the DLC after years away, and it shows. From there, you are treated to a smaller but substantial Sea of Stars experience. The circus and clown theme running through the whole DLC is unique compared to the rest of the game and allows for some fun boss fights and locations that feel different. The new combat abilities also challenged me without making me feel like I had forgotten core abilities that were making me fail. The narrative is also more personal for Valere or Zale, forcing them to examine some of their own personal anxieties. I appreciated that inward look, as in the main game (and is often the case with protagonists in RPGs), they were less interesting than the supporting cast. They were owed some more in-depth characterization. Throes of the Watchmaker is impressive, especially considering it is completely free. This is a complete, worthwhile expansion to Sea of Stars and serves as a nice potential send-off for the game. It is a commitment, considering its length, but if you played Sea of Stars and enjoyed it, there is no better way to get more, and if you don’t remember the specifics of how to play and what is happening, don’t worry. In the heart of the traditional spring homebuying season, sellers are enthusiastically listing. But increasingly, buyers just aren’t materializing. Inventory of for-***** homes continues to surge in much of the country, but sales aren’t keeping up. In fact, they’re down from a year ago. In many cities, the shifting market has increasingly allowed buyers to be picky as homes stay on the market longer. One driving factor: Sellers are aiming high with their listing prices, even if it means dropping them later. On Zillow, nearly 25% of listings had a price cut in April, the highest share since at least 2018, the listings platform said. “Buyers have their choice, even though the market is stabilizing,” said Eve Metlis, a Realtor at Watson Realty Corp. in Orlando. In the central Florida city, listings are up 42% from a year earlier, bringing the market close to balanced between buyers and sellers. But sales are down 11%. “A lot of sellers still think it’s 2021 or 2022,” she added. “I call it aspirational pricing.” Brokerage Redfin found that the median newly listed home had a record-high list price of $469,729 in March but ultimately sold for 9% less. The gap between buyers and sellers hasn’t been that big since May 2020, when pandemic lockdowns were causing major market disruptions. The mismatched pricing expectations reflect a growing divide in financial security between those who already own homes and those who are trying to gain access to the market for the first time this spring. Many sellers are in comfortable financial positions and have benefited handsomely from rising home equity values. In contrast, first-time buyers still face major affordability hurdles and an uncertain economic environment and are looking for deals. “Even after price cuts, sellers are still in a pretty good position,” Realtor.com chief economist Danielle Hale said. Compared to a year ago, buyers are doing at least a little better. Incomes are still generally rising, and mortgage rates are slightly lower than this time last year, helping boost buying power. For-***** inventory nationwide was up about 30% in April compared to a year earlier, according to Realtor.com data, and more listings are likely on the way. Historically, inventory peaks each year in July or August before leveling off and then dropping in fall and winter. Time on market, another closely watched metric, is also increasing. On average, homes stayed on the market for 50 days last month, four days longer than a year ago and 20 days longer than during the height of the pandemic buying frenzy in 2022. Story Continues “You can definitely tell that there’s a difference right now” between buyers and sellers, said Austin Moore, who sells homes in suburban Kansas City, Mo., and the college town of Warrensburg, Mo., about an hour to the east. “If you don’t price your home correctly from the start, it’s going to sit there.” In the Denver suburb of Greenwood Village, Colo., Realtor Riley Wegner said buyers are gaining more bargaining power, particularly at the entry-level end of the market, where more first-timers participate. In Denver, those homes are usually listed around $500,000. “There still are the homes that are moving, but I feel like it’s the homes that are priced exceptionally well and in very desirable locations,” Wegner said. She’s now seeing more seller concessions, even in cases where homes haven’t been on the market for weeks and weeks. In one recent deal, her buyers offered the full list price on a $485,000 home but asked for an additional $10,700 in concessions. The sellers “accepted our offer — no questions asked — on the spot,” Wegner said. In another transaction, her buyers won a house with an offer $3,000 below list price that included $10,000 in concessions. In late March, Sadiyah Cook, 23, and her husband decided to start looking at what they could buy outside Philadelphia after being hit with a steep rent increase on their apartment. To stretch their modest savings, they targeted homes where sellers would cover their closing costs. In Philadelphia and many other cities in the Northeast, the market still generally tilts in sellers’ favor as strict zoning requirements and little land to build on have perpetuated a housing shortage. New listings in the region are up but less than the national average, according to Zillow. And the average home there goes under contract in just eight days. Still, four sellers on the Cooks’ target list of 15 homes agreed to the concessions. Most of those properties had been listed for over 30 days. “Four people who were willing to do that — that made it very easy for us, but it is pretty competitive,” Cook said. After touring their remaining options, they put in an offer on their favorite, a recently renovated 1,800-square-foot three-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom home with a backyard and a large basement. Cooler Master plans to launch a curved-glass case for around $70 – at least outside of the U.S. Cooler Master plans to launch a curved-glass case for around $70 – at least outside of the U.S. It’s tough to find any new PC hardware these days that could be described as “surprisingly affordable,” but that seems to be the aim of Cooler Master’s new Elite case lineup. The eight cases shown off at the company’s headquarters range from basic ****** mid-towers to wood-accented, dual-chamber designs, plus a pair with curved glass wrapping around the front and sides. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) These cases don’t break new ground in design or features, but I was surprised when a Cooler Master representative told me they should all have MSRPs under $100, and that one of the curved glass models on display is expected to be just $69. But as he saw the look of surprise on my face, he quickly added, “But we’re still dealing with the tariffs, so that’s kind of like the global price.” So unless something changes between now and when these cases launch (I was told around September of this year), U.S. customers will almost certainly be paying more for these cases than most of the rest of the world. The company rep did, though, tell me that Cooler Master is working on ways to bring these cases to the U.S. while still keeping pricing low, while also letting me know that not all of the models shown will make it to the U.S. market. You may like (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Because of tariff uncertainty, most companies I’ve talked to here at Computex have avoided stating pricing for the U.S. market at all. Given that many products are often shown months ahead of availability, and many U.S. tariff details are still in flux, that’s certainly understandable. Still, it’s impressive that Cooler Master is aiming at such low prices for the Elite case line, given how nice they look. But to be fair, there are some sacrifices to hit low price points. The top panels of the curved glass Elite cases are plastic (although you wouldn’t know by looking). And it’s unclear if the RGB fans in the cases on display will be included in all models. I do, though, like the exhaust fan used in most of these cases, which has a module on the bottom that displays the fan RPM and temperature. Sea level will rise fast even if we limit global warming to 1.5°C Sea level will rise fast even if we limit global warming to 1.5°C Rising seas will threaten many coastal cities Hugh R Hastings/Getty Images Limiting global warming to 1.5°C above the pre-industrial baseline won’t be enough to stop sea levels from rising by several metres over the coming centuries, according to a review of all the latest evidence. “I think sometimes there’s a misunderstanding that 1.5°C will mean all our problems go away,” says Chris Stokes at Durham University in the ***. “It should absolutely be our target, but in no sense will it slow or stop sea level rise from melting ice sheets.” The world is currently on course for roughly 2.9°C of warming by 2100. That would lead to the loss of both the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets, says Jonathan Bamber at the University of Bristol in the ***. “So if we’re talking about long-term commitments, that’s in excess of 12 metres of sea level rise,” says Bamber. Stokes, Bamber and their colleagues have reviewed three lines of evidence: satellite observations of ice loss and sea level rise over the past three decades, studies of warm periods in the past and computer models of ice sheets. Early computer models, which didn’t include many key processes, suggested that ice sheets would take a long time to respond to warming, says Bamber. In fact, the satellite observations show that the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets are responding rapidly. “The observations show a very different picture,” says Bamber. “Some of the mass loss we’ve seen in Greenland has been really quite staggering, really unprecedented in comparison to what the models had predicted.” Not only are Greenland and West Antarctica already losing ice, the trend is accelerating, says Stokes. “And all of this is happening at just 1.2 degrees of warming,” he says. “So the idea that 1.5 is going to somehow fix this problem is misleading.” Studies of previous warm spells during the past 3 million years show that the sea level was many metres higher during these periods, says Stokes. The last report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), published in 2021, predicted 1 to 2 metres of sea level rise over many centuries if the rise in temperature was limited to 1.5°C, says Stokes. “We’re bringing that forward,” he says. “It’s very clear now that, actually, we’re starting to see some of those worst-case scenarios play out almost in front of us in terms of the satellite record of mass balance.” To merely slow sea level rise from the melting ice sheets to a manageable level, the average global temperature needs to be reduced to around 1°C above the pre-industrial baseline, the team estimates. Silicon island: A national semiconductor strategy sets out a clear roadmap to grow Ireland’s semiconductor sector by creating high-value jobs, attracting major investment and deepening the country’s leadership in cutting-edge technology as a key player in Europe’s semiconductor future. The Irish government aims to become a leader in the semiconductor industry by building on its track record in technology development, capitalising on existing strengths and taking proactive, strategic actions to address emerging challenges. In 2023, the European Union (EU) set out plans to secure the supply of semiconductors and drive chip development across the region. The EU Chip Act commits €43bn of policy-driven investment until 2030, funding a number of initiatives including next-generation technologies and providing access across Europe to design tools and pilot lines for the prototyping, testing and experimentation of cutting-edge chips. Ireland – which is home to over 130 semiconductor companies, directly employing 20,000 people and generating €13.5bn in annual exports – is building on the EU Chip Act. The Irish strategy aims to foster the further growth of Ireland’s semiconductor ecosystem over the coming decade in support of the European Chips Act and Digital Decade ambitions through three strategic strands: strengthening the existing ecosystem, ensuring a robust national talent pipeline, and seizing industry opportunities. Key deliverables include publishing a comprehensive mapping of Ireland’s semiconductor ecosystem, fostering connections between research and innovation clusters, and engaging the education system to meet growing talent demands. Speaking at the launch, minister for enterprise, tourism and employment Peter Burke said: “Ireland already has a strong semiconductor base. But with the right support, I believe we could do far more. By 2040, Ireland could support up to 34,500 new semiconductor roles.” The overall goal of the Irish chip strategy is to ensure there is a secure supply chain for semiconductors in Europe by building on Ireland’s already well-established semiconductor footprint. Integrated device manufacturers including Intel, Analog Devices and Infineon have facilities in Ireland. Fabless manufacturers including Apple, AMD and IBM also have sites in Ireland, as do firms like ARM, AutoCAD and Siemens, which provide chip design, and design and testing software for chipmakers. Photolithography equipment manufacturer ASML also has an Irish facility. The multi-faceted strategy involves securing major industrial investments, with ambitious plans to establish a leading-edge chip fabrication facility, two trailing-edge foundries and an advanced packaging facility. Ireland also aims to develop next-generation sites with the infrastructure needed to support large-scale manufacturing and support startups and spinouts with access to finance. The Irish government also aims to enhance research and development, by supporting both indigenous innovation and multinational collaboration and fostering an open ecosystem based on collaboration. Overall, it wants to ensure Ireland is regarded as a hub of excellence in semiconductor design, manufacturing and research. Ireland has established a national competence centre for semiconductors under the European Chips Act. The Taiwan-based chipmaker unveiled its first hybrid computing solution to offer AI capabilities on the edge, a new chipset to bring AI to in-car infotainment systems, as well as an Internet-of-things (IoT) platform to power a broad range of devices at the event. MediaTek showcased these innovations as part of its broader AI vision to offer solutions for AI running on-device, on edge, as well as on cloud. In a press release, the chipmaker detailed several AI-powered innovations it showcased at Computex 2025. Highlighting its wide range of solutions, Joe Chen, President and COO of MediaTek, said the company is “aiming to offer AI-driven experiences across multiple applications and promote the broader adoption of generative AI.” The first is a conceptual hybrid computing solution that integrates 5G connectivity via MediaTek’s AI-powered Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) gateway with on-device AI capabilities in a single device. The solution is in a prototype stage, and the company claims that it will be able to deliver high performance on a substantial bandwidth while ensuring low latency and data privacy. The chipmaker said it has completed proof-of-concept trials with a “leading telecommunications infrastructure provider.” With this hybrid solution, MediaTek demonstrated its AI Hub that connects to smart home devices and allows on-device AI agents to collaborate and act as personal assistants to users. Once ready, this technology will let users use the centralised AI hub to command multiple home appliances at once. Apart from this, MediaTek also highlighted its partnership with Nvidia to develop the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, claimed to be the world’s smallest AI supercomputer, for the DGX Spark. It can deliver a performance of 1,000 trillion operations per second (TOPS), and can run AI models with up to 200 billion parameters locally. MediaTek’s role in the project includes custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) solutions aimed at addressing the high-performance and networking demands of modern datacentres and AI accelerators. The company says its roadmap includes support for advanced process nodes, high-speed interconnects, and custom high-bandwidth memory (HBM) packaging, enabling improvements in compute density and efficiency. Introducing the flagship-tier Dimensity Auto Cockpit C-X1 chipset, the company said it will combine AI models and acoustic technologies to enable personalised virtual assistants in in-car infotainment systems. The platform also supports 8K videos, Dolby Vision HDR, and Dolby Atmos. Alongside, MediaTek also unveiled the Dimensity Auto Connect MT2739, an in-car 5G Dual SIM Dual Active with 3 Transmit antennas (DSDA 3Tx) technology. The system uses AI to optimise network connectivity and supports features such as intelligent scene recognition. The company also demonstrated a 5G eCall system that can automatically alert emergency services in the event of a serious ******. Coming to the chipmaker’s IoT solution, MediaTek unveiled its Genio 720 and 520 IoT platforms that supports a wide range of devices across home, retail, industrial, and commercial use cases. The company says it can serve motorcycle control boards, robotic arms, and service robots. MediaTek is currently working with IoT players such as Advantech, ADLINK, and VIA to co-develop applications for its platform. Finally, the tech giant also showcased its AI-powered Filogic Wi-Fi that can detect interference sources, optimise settings, and allocate bandwidth across multiple devices.
