*** anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson to be released
British anti-Islam activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon has won a bid to trim his 18-month sentence for contempt of court, meaning he will be released from jail within a week.
Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson, was jailed in October after he admitted breaching an injunction banning him from repeating false allegations against a Syrian refugee, who had successfully sued him for libel.
Britain’s solicitor general took legal action against Yaxley-Lennon over comments in online interviews and a documentary titled Silenced, which was viewed millions of times and was played in London’s Trafalgar Square in July.
The judge who sentenced Yaxley-Lennon said that four months of the 18-month sentence, half of which was to be served in jail, could be lifted if Yaxley-Lennon took steps to remove ‘Silenced’ from his social media accounts and elsewhere online.
Yaxley-Lennon’s lawyer Alex Di Francesco told London’s High Court that ‘Silenced’ had been removed from accounts he controlled and that requests had been made to remove interviews in which Yaxley-Lennon repeated the libelous allegations.
Judge Jeremy Johnson ruled that Yaxley-Lennon had “purged” his contempt, meaning his release date of July 26 will be brought forward to May 26.
Yaxley-Lennon, who counts US billionaire Elon Musk among his supporters, was accused by some media and politicians of inflaming tensions which led to days of rioting across Britain in late July and August last year after the ******* of three young girls at a dance workshop in Southport.
His social media account said in January that Musk was paying some of his legal fees, though Musk has not confirmed this.

Darth Vader Mocking WWE and Cody Rhodes for Losing to John Cena in Fortnite Was Not on My Bingo Card
Darth Vader Mocking WWE and Cody Rhodes for Losing to John Cena in Fortnite Was Not on My Bingo Card
If you weren’t playing Fortnite during the recent weekend, you missed out on some funny stuff. The new AI Darth Vader has quickly turned from ominous Sith Lord to meme king, and no one, not even WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes, has been spared. Epic Games might’ve planned something for AI Vader, but fans have gone wild.
Just weeks after John Cena claimed his 17th world title by defeating Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, AI Vader in Fortnite has begun to make some pretty funny comments about it. No one expected Vader to be this petty. And yet, here we are. Go check out the new feature if you haven’t.
Darth Vader is wreaking havoc in Fortnite, and not even Cody Rhodes is spared
The Darth Vader AI feature was added to Fortnite last week as part of the new Star Wars mini-season. It uses voice tech to let players chat with the Sith Lord in real-time. Epic Games couldn’t have predicted just how creative fans are. From making Vader say borderline offensive comments to having him comment on WWE storylines, the chaos is everywhere.
AI Darth Vader talking to Cody Rhodes in Fortnite is HILARIOUS
(darthultria ig) pic.twitter.com/ojs3WAKLH8
— #WeWantCody (@WeWantCody_) May 19, 2025
One of the funniest and surprising ones has been the clip of Vader talking to a player wearing the Cody Rhodes skin. With Vader saying things like, “Cody Rhodes, your story as you call it, has concluded,” and “This obsession with championships and John Cena… I sense a lack of focus.” Vader continues to mess with Rhodes for losing to Cena in what he mockingly called a “childish arena.”
Just think of it, Cody Rhodes getting roasted in-universe by one of the most iconic villains ever. It’s so unexpected that it’s hilarious. To make matters even more bizarre, this shade from Vader comes mere weeks after WrestleMania 41’s stunning main event, where John Cena turned heel and won his record-breaking 17th world title by defeating Rhodes.

— Nero Deux (@PerformerLaw) May 16, 2025
Of course, Epic Games has precautions in place, including Google’s safety tools and Epic’s own custom moderation layers. But still, the AI version of Vader has already gone rogue. There are already clips of him saying some unhinged stuff, and he’s even swearing in-game.
This brings up the increasingly growing concern about AI in media
What does this mean for the future of media? | Image Credit: Lucasfilm
The technology behind this feature is impressive, but has also become deeply controversial. Using the voice of James Earl Jones, who passed away in 2024, Epic recreated Vader’s legendary tone with ElevenLabs’ Flash v2.5. We already know that Jones and his family gave permission for his voice to live on in this way, but the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA has filed an unfair labor complaint.
They argue Epic used AI without properly negotiating terms with performers who had previously portrayed Vader in games, effectively cutting actors out of the loop. They stated, “We must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members.” The situation really brings us to a ******* discussion of AI in media.
We’re now at the point where fictional characters are being reprogrammed to comment on real-world sports entertainment outcomes, in real-time, through video games. It’s surreal, entertaining, and at times unsettling. Of course, it’s not just limited to video games; we’re seeing it everywhere. For now, though, Cody Rhodes needs to get John Cena out of his head and win in Fortnite.

Laura Loomer swipes at Trump from the heart of MAGA
Laura Loomer swipes at Trump from the heart of MAGA
By James Oliphant
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Laura Loomer once had to chain herself to a building to get attention. Not any longer.
A far-right activist who has jockeyed her way up from online agitator to self-appointed presidential adviser, Loomer has long been one of President Donald Trump’s most fervent supporters.
She has recently found herself at odds with the White House, however, clashing with the administration over both policy and personnel choices that she views as counter to the MAGA movement.
In the past few weeks, Loomer has criticized the new pope, mounted a campaign against Trump’s pick for surgeon general, Casey Means, blasted his attorney general, Pam Bondi, and noisily objected to Trump’s diplomatic efforts during his Middle East trip.
If Loomer were just another online rabble-rouser, the friction likely would not matter. But with 1.6 million followers on X and her own weekly program that draws thousands of viewers, Loomer can claim she speaks for the MAGA faithful and, in turn, influence how they view the performance of the president and his administration.
Loomer has said it’s her job to keep Trump on track. She has flitted in and out of the president’s inner circle and has claimed to be responsible for the firings of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and other aides.
“What makes her more dangerous than other people is that she clearly seems to have Trump’s ear,” said Peter Montgomery, who tracks conservative movements for the liberal advocacy group People For the American Way.
Loomer did not respond to requests for comment for this story, but made clear how she views her role during her online video show earlier this month.
“I’m not working for President Trump. I’m not getting paid by President Trump. I’m not in the Trump White House,” Loomer said during her show. “I wasn’t even on the Trump campaign. And yet, I feel like very single day, it’s a full-time job just to make sure the president is protected and that he’s receiving the information he needs to receive.”
WHITE HOUSE INFLUENCER?
Loomer met last month with Trump at the White House, after which Trump immediately fired several national security officials Loomer claimed were disloyal. Trump later denied that Loomer was the reason.
A short time later, Waltz himself was fired, something Loomer also claimed she engineered.
But the White House says that Loomer is not a presidential adviser, unofficial or otherwise. She has no pass to enter the complex, said a White House official, and there are no further meetings planned with her.
A self-proclaimed “Islamophobe” who for years argued that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were an inside job, Loomer has a history of provocative and self-promotional actions including handcuffing herself to Twitter’s headquarters in New York in 2018 after the platform banned her for hate speech. Other Trump supporters such as U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene have denounced her remarks as “racist, “hateful” and unrepresentative of the MAGA movement.
Last September during the presidential campaign, Loomer traveled on Trump’s plane to his debate with opponent Kamala Harris and then was by his side when he commemorated the 9/11 attacks in New York, sparking outrage among critics and concern within the campaign. Earlier, she had said the “White House would smell like curry” if Harris, who is of Indian heritage, were elected.
AT ODDS
Trump then called her a “strong person” and a “free spirit.” But Loomer has become increasingly critical of Trump’s administration, if not the president himself.
She sparred online with top Trump adviser Elon Musk over skilled workforce visas. She has repeatedly argued that the administration’s hires are being improperly vetted.
When Trump praised the new pope, Leo XIV, Loomer blasted the pontiff as “anti-MAGA” and a Marxist. She expressed dismay last week when Trump announced he was lifting economic sanctions on Syria, and when he struck an investment deal with Qatar, which she accuses of funding pro-************ demonstrations in the United States. Qatar is a longtime backer of ******, but there is no direct evidence tying it to funding the protests.
Loomer was scornful of the possibility Trump might accept a luxury 747 from the Qatari government. “I love President Trump. I would take a bullet for him,” Loomer wrote on X. “We cannot accept a $400 million `gift’ from jihadists in suits.”
Trump has said the plane would be given to the country, not him.
She has continued to hammer Bondi for what she says is a failure to clean up the Justice Department. On Monday, she appeared on former Trump adviser Steve Bannon’s show and claimed that she has known that former President Joe Biden was terminally ill for a year. Biden’s office announced on Sunday that he has advanced prostate *******.
Bannon, who also views himself as the conscience of the MAGA base, called her “a warrior in the information war.”
But the White House’s biggest headache may be Loomer’s crusade to derail the nomination of Casey Means as Trump’s surgeon general. In numerous posts, Loomer has argued that Means, a wellness expert who graduated from medical school but lacks a license to practice medicine, is unqualified.
“I want to know which one of President Trump’s geniuses chose a woman who literally talks to trees and spiritual mediums,” Loomer posted on X the day Means was nominated.
Trump has defended the choice.

Goldman Sachs hikes Microsoft price target, sees AI investments driving strong growth
Goldman Sachs hikes Microsoft price target, sees AI investments driving strong growth
Goldman Sachs is more confident in Microsoft after the company’s announcements at its annual Build developer conference. Analyst Kash Rangan reiterated his buy rating on Microsoft and lifted his price target by $70 to $550, which suggests the stock could gain roughly 19.8% from Monday’s close. Rangan said the four-day event, which began Monday, left him with increasing conviction in the company’s artificial intelligent investments. “We believe these investments help position Microsoft at the forefront of developer tool ecosystem (seeing some of the most promising early GenAI adoption) and help establish a robust and interoperable ecosystem for agentic AI,” Rangan wrote in a Monday note to clients. “This will not only support consumption of AI compute on Azure, but adoption of Microsoft’s platforms and applications, all of which become richer and more dynamic with standardized, interconnected tools,” he added. MSFT 1Y mountain Microsoft stock performance. Rangan highlighted Microsoft’s Model Context Protocol, which enables developers to integrate AI models and external systems, as a “major evolution” in Microsoft’s AI ecosystem. Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio are two other impressive parts of the company’s rapidly scaling AI business to Rangan, who pointed out that both technologies have seen user growth. Microsoft announced a GitHub Copilot coding agent — which acts as a fully asynchronous coding agent that can write, run and test code — that the analyst believes could attract more productivity-hungry customers. Other growth catalysts for Microsoft are its Azure AI Foundry platform for AI agents, which has similarly seen booming customer growth, as well as the company’s focus on scaling its Azure cloud regions and data centers. “We continue to believe that as Gen-AI moves from the Infrastructure layer to the Platform/Application layers, Microsoft is well positioned to capitalize on this shift, wherein a more capital efficient and higher margin recurring revenue model could become a reality, just as it did during the on-prem to cloud transition,” Rangan said. Microsoft remains a favorite on Wall Street. Fifty-six of 63 analysts covering the stock have a strong buy or buy rating, per LSEG. Shares are up roughly 8.9% year to date.

Google’s free NotebookLM AI app is out now for Android and iOS – here’s why it’s a day-one download for me
The NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS are now official
Many of the features of the web app are carried across
If you pay for Google One AI Premium, you get more features
Google had already told us that mobile versions of the AI-powered NotebookLM research tool were on the way, and now they’ve appeared in the app stores for Android and iOS – just in time for the big Google I/O 2025 show later today.
As per Google’s latest blog post, the apps enable you to “understand anything, anywhere”, with “many of the core features of NotebookLM” carried over from the web version of the tool that’s been around since 2023.
If you’re completely new to NotebookLM, the idea is you feed it a bunch of sources – YouTube videos, web links, essays, PDF documents – and it can then collate all this information, summarize it, and answer questions about it.
You may like
NotebookLM’s most viral moments to date have been thanks to its Audio Overviews feature, which let you turn your sources into an AI-hosted podcast that sounds almost like the real thing. You can even interrupt the podcast with follow-up questions.
Yes please, Google
The mobile apps bring across many features from the web version (Image credit: Google)
Having used NotebookLM for several months on the web, there’s no doubt I’ll be getting it installed on my mobile devices right away: it’s one of the most genuinely useful AI tools I’ve come across so far, and because you supply the sources, those pesky AI hallucinations are kept down to a minimum.
That’s not to say it can’t make mistakes, but I’ve not seen any obvious ones so far – and anecdotally, it seems more reliable than standard generative AI chatbots. Every question is answered with a detailed citation list, so you can see where information has come from.
For getting a brief overview of a huge topic, or explaining complex subjects in simple terms, it works really well. Recently I’ve been using it to dig into a couple of dense scientific studies, and make them more understandable.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
The NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS are available now, free of charge. If you pay $19.99 / £18.99 / AU$32 a month for Google One AI Premium, you get NotebookLM Plus – that means you can generate more Audio Overviews, customize the style and tone of notebooks, and share your notebooks with other people.

Fortnite faces complaint from actors’ union over AI Darth Vader
Fortnite faces complaint from actors’ union over AI Darth Vader
Liv McMahon
Technology reporter
Fortnite/Epic Games
Actor union Sag-Aftra has filed a complaint over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to recreate the voice of Star Wars villain Darth Vader in Fortnite.
The union said Llama Productions – a subsidiary of Epic, which makes the hit video game – had chosen “to replace the work of human performers with AI technology”.
It has alleged the company did so without informing the union of its intentions or bargaining over terms.
The BBC has approached Epic Games for comment.
The union’s Unfair Labour Practice complaint, filed to the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), alleges that the company made “unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment, without providing notice to the union or the opportunity to bargain, by utilising AI-generated voices to replace bargaining unit work”.
It said this amounted to a failure by the employer to “bargain in good faith”.
In the game, players can fight against Darth Vader, recruit the character to their team and interact with it.
“Strategise with the ultimate Sith Lord. With your voice. And he’ll respond back using conversational AI,” the company wrote in an announcement on Friday.
It said its AI voice recreation of the Star Wars villain would not have been possible, nor “nearly as sinister” without the agreement of the estate of James Earl Jones – the late actor who voiced Darth Vader in the film franchise.
An attached statement from the actor’s family said he “felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars” and “always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it”.
“We hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character,” they added.
Sag-Aftra said it welcomed its members and their estate exercising their right to control how digital replicas are used – but wanted to be involved so actors more widely could benefit.
“We must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the work of matching Darth Vader’s iconic rhythm and tone in video games,” it said.
The complaint comes against the backdrop of video game and voice actors growing increasingly concerned over the use of AI to reduce their work or replace them altogether.
Hollywood actors such as Scarlett Johansson have also highlighted concerns over how their digital likeness could be manipulated using generative AI.
Sag-Aftra, which represents actors across gaming, film, television and radio, has been continuing to try and reach agreements on terms around video game voice actors rights since strikes began last year.
Voice actors connected to the SAG-Aftra union have been refusing to work with companies like Activision, Disney, Warner Bros and EA since July over issues such as the use of generative artificial intelligence.
These included assurances over the use of digital replicas in video games.
There are also worries the AI-powered tech could be misused.
Wired reported that Fortnite players were already finding ways to make Darth Vader’s character swear in voice chats.

Weight-loss company Noom pivots to smaller doses of compounded Wegovy
Weight-loss company Noom pivots to smaller doses of compounded Wegovy
By Amina Niasse
NEW YORK (Reuters) -Online weight-loss company Noom has begun offering smaller doses of compounded versions of Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy as the U.S. drugs regulator clamps down on mass production of copies of the in-demand medicine.
Noom will offer its version of compounded semaglutide – the active ingredient in Wegovy and diabetes drug Ozempic – as part of a program personalized for patients, which it says will comply with changing U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations.
Demand for the new generation of highly effective but pricey weight-loss drugs has catapulted sales at Noom and rival telehealth sites including Hims & Hers, WeightWatchers and Ro over the past two years.
Taking small doses of the weight-loss drugs, sometimes referred to as micro-dosing, has become popular due to the high cost and side effects of the medicines.
For hundreds of dollars less than the name brand drugs, patients could access doctors and pharmacy-made versions based on semaglutide or tirzepatide, the main ingredient in Eli Lilly’s rival Zepbound and Mounjaro, due to a regulatory exception allowing them during drug shortages.
However, the FDA declared the shortages over and its sunset deadline for compounded versions of Wegovy is May 22.
Noom offers its compounded semaglutide at a starting price of $149 for the first month. A 2.5 milligram vial of Wegovy or Zepbound costs $349, according to Novo and Lilly websites.
Analysts have said the telehealth companies must pivot to working with branded drugs in order to survive after WeightWatchers filed for bankruptcy.
Jeffrey Egler, Noom’s chief medical officer, said providers would determine if patients need a smaller dose because of concerns about gastrointestinal side effects, or to boost adherence or help keep lost weight off, for example.
Noom CEO Geoff Cook said the move would not conflict with regulations. “There is a personalized, and there has always been a personalized, exception,” Cook said.
Novo Nordisk said it is ******** to make or sell semaglutide copies in the U.S. with only rare exceptions.
“As the FDA has warned, compounders cannot evade federal compounding laws by selling knockoff semaglutide drugs with manipulated, unnecessary, and pretextual changes to doses and ingredients,” a Novo Nordisk spokesperson said in a statement.
DOSING
Noom’s documents show that a personalized approach could start with half the typical starter 0.25-milligram dose of Wegovy and gradually increase to about half the FDA-approved maximum dose of 2.4 mg over 20 weeks.
Noom said the move is not meant to capitalize on the microdosing trend, saying patients could increase their dose to the target, just more slowly.
Noom said it will continue selling branded Novo Nordisk drugs as well as Lilly’s Zepbound.
Clinical trials of Wegovy and Zepbound have shown the drugs can lead to reductions of 15% to 20% of a person’s body weight.
A recent study suggests that half the usual dose of semaglutide may be as effective a weight-loss tool as current dosing.
While compounders can create copies for individuals of doses not available in branded drugs, ongoing FDA reviews of whether tirzepatide and semaglutide fall into a category of drugs too complex to qualify for any compounding could put an end to the practice, said Rosalie Hoyle, a research scientist at Avalere.
“As it stands today, compounders still can technically make a personalized dose of semaglutide and tirzepatide,” she said.

US star slapped with three-game ban for head stomp
US star slapped with three-game ban for head stomp
United States centre Alev Kelter has been banned for three matches for her ugly head stomp on her Wallaroos opposite during Australia’s Pacific Four win in Canberra.
The former ice hockey and soccer player was sent off late in the Wallaroos’ 27-19 win, which referee Aimee Barrett-Theron labelled “thuggery”.
A three-time Olympian, winning bronze for the American sevens team in Paris last year, Kelter took a hit-up and then stamped repeatedly with her boot on Georgina Friedrichs’ head, who was clinging to her other leg.
Kelter appeared before an independent disciplinary committee on Tuesday in New Zealand, where the US will face the ****** Ferns in the next round.
Chaired by Michael Heron KC (New Zealand) and former international players Becky Essex (England) and Ofisa Tonu’u (New Zealand), Kelter accepted she had committed an act of foul play and the referee’s decision to award a red card was correct.
The committee, however, accepted Kelter’s evidence she did not intend to contact the head and her act was reckless rather than deliberate.
The three-game ban rules her out of the last round of the Pacific Four and two club games with her Bay Breakers team back in the USA.

2 Hamilton County cities land in top 10 for U.S. News & World Report’s best places to live
Two Hamilton County cities are once again at the top of a best places to live list.
This time, Carmel is ranked as the second-best place to live in the U.S. and Fishers is ranked fourth for 2025-26 by the U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News expanded its data to evaluate more than 850 cities, up from 150 cities in previous years, and published the top 250 cities on Tuesday.
The publication weighed quality of education and health care, air quality, state economy and infrastructure, housing affordability, cost of living, crime rates, weather, unemployment rates and net migration when compiling this year’s list.
More rankings: Hamilton County city ranked best place to live in Indiana, with neighbors close behind
The data came from U.S. News’ internal resources and stats from several government agencies. Carmel secured second on the list for its high desirability, value and job market scores, and Fishers scored strongly in the same categories.
Noblesville came in at 50th on the list. Other Indiana cities included Greenwood at 91st and Columbus at 92.
Recently, Fishers was left off Livability’s list of Best Places to Live, after ranking No. 4 the previous year, due to a change in how the site gathered its rankings.

‘Probably Shouldn’t Be Breaking That Story’
Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) on Monday teased “a logic that a lot of people aren’t talking about yet” which may help sway public opinion over President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to accept a luxury $400 million jumbo jet — to be temporarily used as Air Force One — from Qatar’s ruling family.
But Rounds kept silent on what the actual logic is, telling CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that “a lot of it’s still classified” and then admitting: “I probably shouldn’t be breaking that story.”
Collins had earlier asked Rounds if he was “ethically and optically” comfortable “with the president flying on a plane that was gifted to him by Qatar?”
Trump has drawn criticism from across the the political divide for his willingness to accept a Boeing 747 from Qatar, to be used as Air Force One while two new presidential planes are being built. The Qatari jet will then be transferred to Trump’s presidential library when he leaves office.
Rounds replied to Collins:
“If we can show the American people that there was a method and a reason why it is beneficial in terms of this transition, I think that will help a lot. And I think there may very well be an argument made that as we transition from the old 747, which are still in service, to the new 747, there’s a number of items that have to be included in each of the 747s. If we can build some of that and then transition it out of one 747 and then into the new one, there may very well be some benefits to that while the old 747s are still flying.”
“We’ve had a chance to talk to some of the folks in the Air Force, and the Air Force actually does have a plan to be able to work through this,” he claimed.
“And I’m not gonna get into it because a lot of it’s still classified, but there is a logic that a lot of people aren’t talking about yet. And I probably shouldn’t be breaking that story,” Rounds added.

Sir Lenny Henry returns to stand-up comedy at Perth arts festival
Sir Lenny Henry returns to stand-up comedy at Perth arts festival

Sir Lenny Henry has worked as a comedian, producer, writer and actor
A lot has changed since Sir Lenny Henry did his last stand-up comedy show in 2009.
He’s become a grandfather, been knighted, and expanded his writing, acting and music-making careers.
But comedy remains his first love, which is why when Perth Festival of the Arts asked him to headline their 2025 event with a one-off show, he said yes.
“When you’re on the set of Broadchurch and it’s all about dead bodies you do wish someone would come on and ****** into a bakery by mistake,” he jokes.
“You do wish there were more funny lines. I think comedy is a massive healer and is underestimated.
“It doesn’t have its own category at the Oscars and I think that’s terrible. Comedy deserves more respect.
“Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin. So many great comedians in the world who’ve never been given their flowers and I think we need to start appreciating how wonderful it is.”
Born in Dudley, West Midlands, in 1958, Sir Lenny has been performing since he was 16 years old, first as an impressionist on a TV talent show and then as a stand-up comedian.
As the most prominent ****** British comedian on TV in the 1980s, he was incredibly influential and much of his material both celebrated and parodied his African-Caribbean roots.
He says both his parents – Winifred and Winston – continue to inspire his choices.
“I remember looking at my mum and seeing how hard she worked for us – she had four jobs,” he says. “My dad passed away shortly after he quit work. And that made me realise I don’t want to quit work. I’ve got more to give.
“I love my audience and I want to show them I’m not just Lenny the impressionist, Lenny the writer or Lenny the actor. “
Lenny the comic has been keen to return for a while. He frequently does short appearances at corporate gigs and has been working with regular writer Max Davis to come up with what he describes as a “comedy lecture”.
“The acting has been something I’ve been very proud of and want to continue,” he says. “But I love the idea of having an hour of comedy you can do, in your pocket. And if somewhere in there we could use Perth as a foundation for that, it would be a good thing.”
The evening will open with a short set from Perth-born comedian Fred MacAulay, followed by Sir Lenny’s set. He’ll then take questions from the audience about his 50-year career.
Radio Times
Sir Lenny was the most prominent ****** British comedian on TV in the 1980s
It’s a career which has taken him from seaside summer seasons to mainstream television and alternative comedy.
In 1985, he co-founded the charity organisation Comic Relief with filmmaker Richard Curtis and was one of 150 comics who appeared in the first Red Nose Day television special in 1988 which raised over £15m.
He retired as a presenter of the show last year but says he’s still heavily involved as co-founder and life president.
“It was a massive chapter and it’s still ongoing,” he says.
“I’ll still do project visits and films but not presenting on the night so you won’t see me on the TV as much.”
He says he will still be compering special events, finding new talent and sponsors.
He compares it with the decision to step down as chancellor of Birmingham City University after eight years in the role. During that time, he established the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity there.
He recently returned to the university to give an inaugural lecture which called for wider support for diversity programmes – and criticised President Trump for attacking them.
“Diversity and inclusion mean your mum, your gran, your girlfriend, your gay best friend and if someone is saying we’re not going to have that any more, the global majority won’t have the chance to be at the table,” he says.
“We want everyone at the table and not just straight white men, thanks.”
‘Life has changed completely’
As a producer, as well as a writer and actor, Sir Lenny says he was heartened to see wider representation at last week’s Bafta awards but worries the change is limited to onscreen.
“Compare the people who make the shows who get up and accept the awards to the people presenting the awards,” he says.
“It’s still a predominately cis white male landscape. Hey, I love cis white males. I’ve worked with them all my life and for 35 years they were the only people I met. Only in the last 10 years it’s changed but it’s still a very white world.
“Whoever is making these decisions about our lives, it’s a bit one-sided and that could change.”
While Sir Lenny is excited to try out his comedy routine, a new play scheduled to open in August and two new books in the offing mean he’s unlikely to have the time to go back on the road as a comic.
And things have changed when it comes to the focus of his comedy.
“I’m 66 now and life has changed completely,” he says. “If you see a ****** person in the garden centre it’s usually me. I’m very interested in how Mr Stay Up Late become Mr Staying In man. Crisps, **** and tonic, the telly, and bed at 10 o’clock.”
“And why are garden centres selling clothes? When I go to Prada and buy a nice shovel, you’ll know things have changed.”
Whatever he jokes about, Sir Lenny promises the same silly and laid back style he employed in the children’s show Tiswas – and admires in friend and fellow comic Billy Connolly.
“Billy Connolly has worked his conkers off to make it look like he’s just thought something up,” he says. “And he can walk on stage anywhere and make it feel like he’s just having a chat with you which just happens to be the most hilarious chat you’ve ever had in your life.
“I’ve always wanted that sense of chaos and fun and loveliness and I’ve still got that in me, I think.”
An Evening With Sir Lenny Henry is at Perth Concert Hall, as part of the Perth Festival of the Arts, on Friday 30 May at 19:30.

Nintendo taps Samsung to make Switch 2 chips in a move that could ramp up production
Nintendo taps Samsung to make Switch 2 chips in a move that could ramp up production
Nintendo has partnered with Samsung to make the main chips for Switch 2, a new report claims.
According to Bloomberg, Nintendo has turned to Samsung to make the Nvidia-designed custom processor for the Switch 2 console, in an attempt to speed up production.
The publication’s sources say the deal with Samsung means production should be fast enough to make and sell 20 million Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026, with the potential to ramp up even more if needed, depending on assembler capacity.
Samsung already makes other components for Nintendo such as memory chips and displays, but has reportedly been struggling to compete with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) to make chips not just for Nintendo but for many of the world’s other electronic devices.
It’s said that TSMC has been increasingly building its lead on Samsung by partnering with companies like Apple and Nvidia to make chips for them, but that Nintendo’s partnership will help Samsung to regain some ground and rebuild its reputation with such a high-profile contract.
Samsung is producing the chips using its 8-nanometer node, rather than its 5nm node. The general rule of thumb is that the smaller the number of nanometers, the more advanced and efficient the technology, but Nintendo reportedly opted for the 8nm technology to ensure cheaper and more reliable production.
Last week Korean publication Chosun reported that Nintendo had also considered partnering with TSMC with its 8nm and 7nm processes, but ultimately opted to go with Samsung.
Another Bloomberg source claimed that Samsung has pushed for OLED panels to be used should Switch 2 ever get an upgrade in the future. Wccftech also cited a source familiar with Samsung, who said there’s a possibility that Samsung could switch from 8nm to 5nm for this theoretical future revised hardware, potentially leading to more efficient battery life.
Last week Nintendo said it expects to sell 15 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles during its launch window. While this would be a very strong performance – putting Switch 2 roughly in line with the original console, which was one of the fastest-selling consoles ever – it’s still much lower than projections made by numerous industry analysts, especially following strong pre-orders for the system.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa later explained that the company’s lower-than-expected Switch 2 sales projections were an acknowledgement that the console’s relatively high price point could make it more challenging to sell compared to the original Switch.

ANA 2025: Top three A1 teams still undefeated with trio of big wins in round three of new season
ANA 2025: Top three A1 teams still undefeated with trio of big wins in round three of new season
Narrikup 1 notched their second win of the season in round three of the Albany Netball Association A1 competition on Saturday, with a comprehensive 32-goal thumping of Railways 1.
Led by shooters Rylee Davis and Te Paea Keremete, Narrikup started swiftly with three unanswered goals in the first two minutes of play and kept pushing to widen the margin throughout the first quarter as Railways trailed by 11 goals at quarter time.
Railways fought back in the second term, with defenders Evie Brenton-Reed and Phoenix Woods working hard to keep Narrikup in check while the Railways shooters manage nine goals at the other end.

However, they were no match for Narrikup’s well-drilled flow, and the winners started the third quarter in a similar fashion to the earlier two, shooting five goals before Railways could find a reply.
Railways ran out of steam in the later part of the third quarter and Narrikup strengthened their advantage to take a 21-goal margin margin into the final term.
Narrikup controlled the final term and went on to score a 63-31 result and hold third place on the ladder.

Kangas 1 had another big win in their round three fixture, demolishing Griffins 1 by 42 goals.
Sitting on top of the ladder by percentage, Kangas played hard from the first centre pass as they left Griffins scoreless for the first five minutes of play while netting eight goals.
Their fierce attack style didn’t let up throughout the first half and Griffins were trailing by 16 goals at half time.

Kangas widened the margin even further in the third term and dominated play in the final quarter with 19 goals.
Griffins managed only four goals in the final term as they went down 22-64.
Royals Saints 1 made an early statement as they downed Magpies 1 in the final game of the day, notching another win in a high-scoring affair.
The teams started evenly matched, but Royals pulled ahead as the opening quarter went on.
The reigning premiers pushed hard in the second half to widen the margin, shooting 19 goals in the third quarter and 15 in the last on their way to a 27-goal result.
Magpies fought back in the final minutes of play with five unanswered goals, but their efforts came too little too late as Royals claimed victory 68-41.

I’m a former air traffic controller. The entire system is being stressed and the government needs to do more.
I’m a former air traffic controller. The entire system is being stressed and the government needs to do more.
Todd Sheridan Yeary spent 13 years working at the FAA Chicago Air Route Traffic Control Center.
He says air traffic control is a high-pressure job with unpredictable challenges and safety concerns.
The field is facing staffing shortages, which is stressing the National Airspace System’s safety.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Todd Sheridan Yeary, a pastor and former air traffic controller who left the job in 2002 and is now based in Baltimore. It has been edited for length and clarity.
I spent 13 years as an air traffic controller before pivoting my career. It’s a well-paid but very stressful job.
Many dynamics can change your shift altogether. On a normal cloudy day, if a thunderstorm starts, it could get tense — you can’t control the weather and must respond in real time.
There’s heightened pressure when responding to constantly changing situations. If there’s an aircraft incident or a midair collision — which are rare but shocking — the responsiveness needed takes hyperfocus.
Additionally, the government needs to do more than pay lip service to the needs of the National Airspace System to sustain this field.
Some controllers are adrenaline junkies — we like the pressure
Todd Sheridan Yeary.Courtesy of Todd Sheridan Yeary
I grew up in a house with two air traffic control parents, which influenced my decision to enter the field.
After passing an air traffic control civil service test and completing 10 weeks of training, I chose to work at the FAA Chicago Air Route Traffic Control Center since my stepmother was working there, and my father and I worked together in the same area for almost six years.
I enjoy busy periods, like when I lined up the planes going into O’Hare and Midway, but air traffic controllers need time to recuperate. In today’s environment, some controllers work up to a mandatory six-day week with overtime, and there’s little reset time available.
Pay is determined by the complexity of the facility you’re assigned to. At the end of my career, my base was over six figures annually. With overtime, it’s possible to make double that.
Each day has a baseline of predictability, but there’s always uncertainty
The midair collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in January is a complicated analysis. When these events occur, air traffic controllers must respond immediately to ensure that the incidents don’t cause other incidents. You rely on your training much more when things are shifting than when things are routine.
We can’t minimize the significance of these incidents, but we also can’t lose sight of the reality that the National Airspace System (even with tech and staffing challenges) is still safe. We still can’t take that safety for granted — there is a tipping point.
I think it’s safe to fly into Newark Airport right now
The reduction of flights into Newark Liberty International Airport is partly due to concerns about equipment, but the most active runway at Newark is out of service until next month due to runway improvements.
That alone requires the number of flights to be reduced to avoid potential safety issues. Airline demand has still been growing, and companies are often resistant to cutting back on slots at major airports and airline hubs.
There have been countless stressful moments in my career
I was working on 9/11, and we had to clear the airspace over the US immediately. That meant something as simple as telling a commercial flight that may have left DC for LA that it needed to land in Moline, Illinois.
If the pilots said, “That’s not on our flight plan,” we might counter that it was an emergency. If they refused, we had instructions to notify our military counterpart, the National Guard fighter jets, to ******* commercial planes to the ground during an unprecedented national emergency.
Some pilots initially questioned the instructions, but the available information was changing quickly. Between ATC communications and airline flight dispatchers, we kept military interdictions and escorts to a minimum.
There’s a shortage of controllers and the system’s safety is being stressed
The job is exciting, the controllers are dedicated, and the training is rigorous. However, much more intentional effort is needed for this field to continue to be rewarding.
There’s a shortage of air traffic controllers, and others are pending retirement. If the government doesn’t step in, you may see more controllers going out on disability because the system’s safety is being stressed, and the controllers are being pushed beyond their limits.
I started pastoring a small church in 2001, and I decided to leave my job in air traffic control in 2002 because my congregation needed more of my attention. I moved to Baltimore in 2007 to pastor Douglas Memorial Community Church. I thought I might return one day, but the opportunity never presented itself.
