  1. Mutants: Genesis releases on iOS, Android, and Steam after remaining in Early Access for over two years Mutants: Genesis releases on iOS, Android, and Steam after remaining in Early Access for over two years Mutants: Genesis has officially released on PC and smartphones It is a card-battler with full-blown combat animations Over 200 cards split across six gene factions After two years of testing the waters in Early Access, Mutants: Genesis has officially hit version 1.0 and opened the gates to everyone on Steam, iOS, and Android. Developed by Celsius Online, this collectible card battler is a kinetic twist on the genre, one where your cards don’t just represent fighters – they become them. You’re dropped into a biotech-fuelled future ruled by mega-corporations and ruthless competition, where elite tacticians called Psycogs summon genetically modified mutants into massive holographic arenas. Each match is meant to be a high-stakes performance, with creatures transforming from cards into full-blown animated combatants the moment they hit the field. Unlike most CCGs that keep the action locked behind static boards and text-heavy abilities, it seems Mutants: Genesis throws you into something closer to a live-action arena brawler. Cards have weight, presence, and visual flair as every attack, block, and special move is fully animated. It’s not just about what you play, but when and how you unleash your mutants that makes the difference. Strategically, it leans deep into synergy. With over 200 cards split across six gene factions, you’ll need to experiment with team compositions and ability chains to find powerful combos. Each gene plays differently – some lean into brute force, while others favour sneaky manipulation or devastating area control. You also have solo or three-player co-op missions to choose from. Also, check out this list of the best card battlers to play on iOS right now! Progression isn’t locked behind paywalls either. Daily missions, rotating events, and a story-rich campaign give you reasons to log in, while cross-platform sync lets you pick up where you left off, whether you’re on PC, tablet, or mobile. It’s even optimised for Steam Deck for those who want that hybrid handheld feel. If that interests you, then download Mutants: Genesis now by your preferred link below. 2. Elon Musk says AI could run into power issues by middle of next year Elon Musk says AI could run into power issues by middle of next year Elon Musk interviews on CNBC from the Tesla Headquarters in Texas. CNBC Elon Musk said Tuesday that artificial intelligence development could run into power generation problems by the middle of next year, as the technology industry builds increasingly large data centers. Musk told CNBC in an interview that his artificial intelligence startup xAI is planning a gigawatt-size facility outside Memphis, Tenn. He said the facility would be complete in six to nine months. A gigawatt is equivalent to the power capacity of the average nuclear plant in the U.S., according to the Department of Energy. Musk said AI faces three major limitations as it scales up: chips, transformers and power generation. Transformers are used to ramp down the voltage of electricity produced by power plants so it can used by computers. “As we solve the transformer shortage, there will be the fundamental electricity generation shortage,” Musk told CNBC’s David Faber. “My guess is people are going to start hitting challenges with power generation maybe by the middle of next year, end of next year.” Alphabet’s Google unit warned in February that the U.S. is facing a power capacity crisis as the U.S. races against China to achieve dominance in AI. Google started looking into nuclear energy after realizing renewables were potentially causing instability on the grid, said Caroline Golin, Google’s global head of energy market development. The output of wind and solar is dependent on weather conditions. Google ran into a “very stark reality that we didn’t have enough capacity on the system to power our data centers in the short term and then potentially in the long term,” Golin said at a February conference hosted by the Nuclear Energy Institute in New York City. Musk said Tuesday that China is building significantly more power generation than U.S. “China power generation looks like a rocket going to orbit and U.S. power generation is flat,” the Tesla CEO said. Musk’s xAI is using natural gas turbines to help power its Colossus data center in Memphis. Environmental advocates have accused xAI of violating the Clean Air Act and permitting requirements for “major sources of air pollution” by using gas turbines without mitigation technologies or permits in place. Utilities such as Dominion Energy told investors on recent earnings calls that they are not seeing evidence of slowing data center demand, despite anxiety in the market that the tech sector might cut back on concerns about of a possible recession. Dominion serves the largest data center market in the world located in northern Virginia. But Constellation Energy cautioned that although demand is strong, some of the forecasts by utilities are overstated as developers shop their data centers in multiple jurisdictions. Constellation is the largest operator of nuclear plants in the U.S. “I just have to tell you, folks, I think the load is being overstated,” CEO Joe Dominguez said on the power company’s first quarter earnings call. “We need to pump the brakes here.” Source link #Elon #Musk #run #power #issues #middle #year Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  4. Japan exports growth slows for a second straight month as U.S. tariffs bite Japan exports growth slows for a second straight month as U.S. tariffs bite Vehicles awaiting shipment are parked at a port on March 27, 2025 in Yokohama, Japan. U.S. Tomohiro Ohsumi | Getty Images Japan exports slowed for a second straight month, government data showed Wednesday, as the country reels under U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs. Exports growth of 2% was in line with Reuters-polled analysts’ estimates, its slowest since October last year and the worst showing since September when exports contracted 1.7%. The country’s imports shrank 2.2% from a year ago, less than estimates of a 4.5% decline. Japan’s real gross domestic product contracted an annualized 0.7% in the first quarter this year, preliminary government data showed, dragged down by stagnant private consumption and slowing export growth. The country is among the hardest-hit by Trump’s imposition of 25% tariffs on auto imports, effective April 3, and 25% levies on steel and aluminum that took effect in March. Automobiles are Japan’s top export to the U.S., accounting for 28.3% of all shipments in 2024, according to customs data. This is breaking news. Please refresh for updates. 7. US has deported Asian migrants to South Sudan, lawyers tell court US has deported Asian migrants to South Sudan, lawyers tell court US President Donald Trump’s administration has illegally deported two Asian men to South Sudan, immigration lawyers have told a court. In a submission to a federal judge in Boston, the attorneys said a flight carrying a dozen people, including citizens of Myanmar and Vietnam, landed in South Sudan on Tuesday. A previous court order bars the US government from deporting migrants to third countries without being given “meaningful opportunity” to challenge such removals. The BBC has contacted the Department of Homeland Security for comment. South Sudan is one of the world’s poorest countries, and has been plagued by conflict and political instability in recent years. Attorneys from the National Immigration Litigation Alliance asked the federal judge on Tuesday for an emergency order to prevent the deportations. Judge Brian Murphy issued a ruling on 18 April requiring that ******** migrants have a chance to challenge removal to countries other than their homelands. After reports surfaced that some of the migrants were going to be sent to Libya, Judge Murphy, a Biden appointee, said any such move would violate his ruling. Watch: Homeland Security Secretary is asked what “habeas corpus” means during a Senate hearing Lawyers for the Burmese man said in Tuesday’s court filing that their client speaks limited English and had refused to sign a notice of removal served on him by officials at an immigration detention centre in Texas. On Tuesday morning an attorney emailed the centre after noticing her client was no longer showing up on a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee locator, says the court filing. She was informed he had been removed from the US. When she asked to which country her client had been removed, the email reply said: “South Sudan.” The lawyers said another client, a Vietnamese man, “appears to have suffered the same fate” and “is or was on the same flight” as the man from Myanmar. The Vietnamese man’s spouse emailed his lawyer and said that the group of around 10 other individuals who were believed to have been deported included nationals of Laos, Thailand, Pakistan and Mexico, Reuters news agency reports. “Please help!” the spouse said in an email. “They cannot be allowed to do this.” The US government’s travel advisory states “do not travel to South Sudan due to crime, kidnapping, and armed conflict”. 8. Republicans close in on 'big, beautiful' deal Republicans close in on 'big, beautiful' deal Republican leaders are increasingly confident they will be able to notch a final deal with key GOP megabill holdouts and move toward a final vote in the coming days after several whirlwind hours of closely held negotiations. The upbeat turn in the frequently tumultuous talks was described by six senior Republicans who are participating in them. It came after President Donald Trump visited Capitol Hill Tuesday morning to personally urge the warring factions to drop their demands and come to an agreement on the sprawling domestic-policy bill centered on a multi-trillion-dollar suite of tax cuts. Some of those holdouts emerged from the morning meeting proclaiming ongoing opposition to the current proposal. Behind the scenes, however, many of those obstinate members have been looking for off-ramps — eager to find a way to “yes” while also proclaiming victory on their particular interests, said the six Republicans, who were granted anonymity to describe the private talks. A bitter war waged by blue-state Republicans over the state-and-local-tax deduction, or SALT, is nearing a final resolution, according to people involved in the talks, after GOP leaders offered to slightly sweeten their offer. The group huddled Tuesday evening with Speaker Mike Johnson in hopes of wrapping things up. And to win over hard-line conservatives pushing for more spending cuts, Johnson’s team is working to accelerate the phase-out of clean-energy tax credits enacted under former President Joe Biden. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise told reporters Tuesday night that the bill would “limit dramatically any new projects from starting” using Inflation Reduction Act incentives. “I think everybody on both sides have been looking for ‘outs,’ and I think they’re getting them today,” said one senior GOP aide. House leaders are rushing to notch a deal with the various factions ahead of a scheduled 1 a.m. Rules Committee meeting, where the bill will be readied for floor consideration. Johnson has imposed a Memorial Day deadline for a final House vote and is holding out hope that things could be wrapped up as soon as Wednesday. “We’ve been talking to other sides of the conference,” Scalise said. “Because, of course, with each of these pieces, for every person that wants to make a change over here, there are people that don’t want to make the change over there.” “We’re gonna be up late,” he added. The progress, however, has been palpable. Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland — chair of the hard-right Freedom Caucus — emerged from the morning Trump meeting insisting that he was far from a “yes” and demanding further cuts to Medicaid. By the evening, he declared things were “moving in the right direction” and was no longer insisting a vote this week was impossible. Harris said some major work remains on ironing out the parameters around axing the clean-energy tax credits, but he and other conservatives have all but dropped their push for the steepest cuts to Medicaid following Trump’s insistence Tuesday morning that they leave the program alone. GOP leaders have worked to split the opposition, peeling away members who are less dug in on policy principles and are otherwise uncomfortable breaking with the president and the bulk of the party. They include Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-Okla.), who has taken a less confrontational stance than fellow fiscal hawks Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas) or Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) — and, according to the Republicans involved in the talks, has looked for ways to get on board after helping tank a key Budget Committee vote last Friday, enraging Trump. Johnson huddled with Brecheen alone on the House floor Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after, he told reporters he was “hopeful” on a deal. Meanwhile, vulnerable centrists are relieved that Trump told conservatives to back off further cuts to safety-net programs, and the SALT Republicans are heading toward a resolution after a Trump tongue-lashing. Leaders are proposing to extend the length of a new $40,000 cap to a full 10 years after previous offers would have sunset after shorter windows. “We weren’t even in the same universe a couple of days ago,” said Rep. Nick LaLota (R-N.Y.) after walking out of Johnson’s office Tuesday night. “We’re in the same ball field now.” GOP leaders aren’t necessarily determined to get every last holdout on board before sending a bill to the Rules Committee. Two key hard-liners who sit on the panel — Norman and Rep. Morgan Griffith of Virginia — said Tuesday they were inclined to advance the bill to the floor. That’s where Johnson’s leadership circle believes they can lean on the final holdouts until they break — possibly with help from Trump. The thinking, several of the Republicans said, is that some members will keep asking for more time until leaders finally call the question: Are you with Trump and your Republican colleagues, or aren’t you? And if they insist on voting the bill down, the belief is they would eventually crumble under fierce public pressure from constituents and MAGA loyalists furious about the failure of Trump’s signature bill. “Things don’t get better when you hold it out there,” as one senior Republican said. Another was more blunt: “It’s easier to break up with someone from a basement over email. Harder to do it in person, face-to-face.” Robert King and Mia McCarthy contributed to this report. 10. You Should Eat More of These Foods If You Have High Blood Pressure, New Study Suggests You Should Eat More of These Foods If You Have High Blood Pressure, New Study Suggests Reviewed by Dietitian Annie Nguyen, M.A., RD A new study suggests that eating foods with live microbes may have benefits for those with hypertension. Eating more microbe-rich foods may also counteract the effect of being sedentary. Fermented foods like kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut and some yogurts contain live microbes. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common health issue that affects millions of people worldwide and can lower both the quality and length of life. Finding ways to lower the risks for those with hypertension is very important—that’s why researchers recently undertook a new study to determine if live microbes could be beneficial for those dealing with high blood pressure. Including certain live microorganisms in your diet through foods or supplements (like probiotics) has become a promising way to support gut health and improve heart health. Fermented foods like kefir, kimchi and some yogurts can be good sources of live microbes. In this new study published in Scientific Reports, the researchers looked at how both dietary live microbes and sedentary behavior can affect people with hypertension. Whether you have a desk job, spend your days driving or prefer to spend your weekends hanging out on the couch, sitting for long periods can easily become a normal part of everyday life. But too much sedentary time can have serious impacts on heart health. For instance, long periods of sitting can harm the health of your blood vessels. When we sit too much, the normal function of the cells lining our blood vessels gets disrupted. This can make it harder for the blood vessels to relax and work properly, which raises blood pressure and contributes to other health issues. Large-scale studies on human populations are still needed to confirm whether reducing sedentary behavior—and consuming live microbes—can effectively manage high blood pressure in the long term. This study in Scientific Reports aims to bridge that knowledge gap—let’s unpack what it found. Related: This Food Could Protect Your Gut from Inflammation, New Study Suggests How Was This Study Conducted? To investigate the association between dietary microbes intake and sedentary behavior with mortality risk in adults with high blood pressure in the United States, researchers used information from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, which was designed to gather important details about the health and nutrition of people living in the U.S. More than 15,000 individuals with hypertension were included in the analysis. The study looked at how much live microbes people consumed in their diets and how that might connect to a sedentary lifestyle. The researchers suggest that most sterile or processed foods don’t contain many live microorganisms, while fresh fruits and vegetables with their skins on have moderate amounts. Foods like yogurt or fermented vegetables often have the highest levels of live microbes. To measure this, participants shared what they ate over a 24-hour *******, and foods were grouped based on their microbe content. The groups included low microbe intake (mostly processed or sterile foods), moderate intake (some fresh produce) and high intake (fermented or unprocessed foods with lots of microbes). Participants were then categorized into one of these three groups based on their food choices. To understand how much time people spent sitting each day, researchers used a simple questionnaire called the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ). Interviewers asked participants about their daily sitting time, including activities like working at a desk, commuting in a car or on public transportation, watching TV, reading or using a computer. Based on their answers, participants were grouped into three categories of sitting time: less than five hours per day, five to eight hours per day, or more than eight hours per day. To examine survival outcomes, researchers used existing health data to understand who was still alive by the end of the study *******, which concluded at the end of 2019. Additional factors like diet, use of probiotics and salt intake were considered for a more detailed analysis. What Did This Study Find? After analyzing the available data, the researchers found that people who ate the least live-microbe foods had a higher risk of death from all causes and heart disease, while those who ate the most had a lower risk. Additionally, those who spent fewer than five hours a day sitting had the lowest risk of death, but people who sat for five to eight hours and those who sat for more than eight hours had similar risks. To better understand how diet and sitting time affect health, researchers investigated the link between diet, sedentary lifestyle and health outcomes further. They found that sitting for long hours was linked to a higher risk of death. Specifically, for every extra hour spent sitting, the risk of dying from any cause went up by 6%, and the risk of dying from heart problems increased by 6.5%. On the other hand, eating more live-microbe foods was protective. People with medium or high intake of live-microbe foods had significantly lower risks of death compared to those who ate very little. Interestingly, the study revealed a “U-shaped” relationship between sitting time and the risk of death from all causes. This means that both very low and very high amounts of sitting are linked to higher health risks, while moderate sitting—around four hours a day—appears safer. When they split the participants into two groups—one that sat for more than 4.1 hours a day and one group that sat for less—they found that for those in the more-sitting group, eating live-microbe foods was especially beneficial. For individuals who did sit longer, eating moderate or high amounts of those foods helped lower their risk of heart-related deaths significantly. Even though a clear link between eating these foods and lower overall death risk wasn’t found for all groups, the general trend showed that people who ate more live microbe-rich foods tended to have better health outcomes. These findings underline how combining less sitting with healthier food choices may be beneficial for people with high blood pressure. There are a few key study limitations to keep in mind. First, while the authors based their classification of dietary live microbes on widely accepted expert guidelines found in many studies, the actual amount of microbes in different foods wasn’t precisely measured, which could lead to some inaccuracies in the analysis. Second, the data used about diet and activity levels comes from self-reported surveys, meaning people may not always remember or report their eating and sitting habits accurately. Additionally, the study focuses only on people in the U.S., who may have different lifestyles, healthcare access, and genetics than people in other parts of the world, people should be cautious about applying these findings globally. Related: The Best Fermented Foods for Better Gut Health, According to a Gastroenterologist How Does This Apply to Real Life? If you have high blood pressure, the study’s findings suggest that taking certain steps in your daily habits may offer some benefits. By reducing sitting time to less than 4.1 hours per day, you may lower their risk of death, particularly from heart-related issues, based on these results. Incorporating more live microbe-rich foods (like yogurt, fermented vegetables and fresh produce with skins) into your diet also appears to support heart health. And while live microbes may sound like an intimidating eat, they’re actually pretty easy to ease into. Start with a recipe like our Berry Kefir Smoothie for a snack or a light breakfast. Make your day a little more savory by adding sauerkraut to your sandwiches. And if you prefer a make-ahead treat, prep our Lemon-Raspberry Frozen Yogurt Bites and enjoy them on a piping hot day. Together, reducing sedentary behavior and maintaining a live microbe-rich diet form a powerful combination that may help you live a healthy life despite the challenges of living with hypertension. The Bottom Line This study published in Scientific Reports highlights the importance of small, actionable lifestyle changes that may make a significant impact on the health of those living with high blood pressure. Reducing the time spent sitting each day and incorporating more live microbe-rich foods into your diet may offer protective benefits for heart health and overall longevity. These findings emphasize that even gradual adjustments to daily routines, like standing up more frequently or adding a serving of fermented vegetables to your meals, could prove valuable in managing health risks associated with hypertension. While there are still gaps in our understanding, particularly regarding the exact role of dietary microbes and how universally these findings can be applied, this research provides a promising glimpse into how simple choices can contribute to better health outcomes. 11. ‘We back fam’: Fortnite is back on the US App Store, after a 5-year court battle ‘We back fam’: Fortnite is back on the US App Store, after a 5-year court battle After a five-year absence, Fortnite has finally returned to the iOS App Store in the US, after Apple was ordered by a judge to allow its return. Announcing the news, Epic Games said: “Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the U.S. on iPhones and iPads… and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the E.U! It’ll show up in Search soon!” Fortnite’s return is the latest twist in the Epic vs Apple saga stretching back to 2020, when Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store after Epic bypassed its platform fees, leading to the filing of a lawsuit. The latest development came after a US judge ordered Apple to stop forcing the 27% commission on payments earlier this month, stating that it had violated a 2021 injunction when it was ordered to allow external payment methods. Epic responded by announcing it was preparing to bring Fortnite back to the iOS App Store this month, but this return was later blocked by Apple after Epic’s first attempt at submitting Fortnite to the store, something that also saw it made temporarily unavailable in Europe. On Tuesday, US judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ordered Apple to allow Fortnite’s return to the US App Store, or explain itself in court, which seemingly has led to the game’s long-awaited return. The version of Fortnite launched on the US App Store today features external payment options and significant incentives for players to buy directly from Epic instead of through Apple’s own payment system. Former Fortnite creative director Donald Mustard commented on the news: “This is absolutely incredible. Everyone go get Fortnite on your Phones and iPads NOW!!! We worked SO hard in those early days of Fortnite to really dial in and refine a great control scheme for mobile devices!” Epic Games CEO and founder Tim Sweeney wrote: “We back fam”. 12. Deal to improve worker consultation on transnational matters | News Deal to improve worker consultation on transnational matters | News European Works Councils (EWCs) represent EU workers in large multinational companies that operate in at least two EU or European Economic Area countries. They are designed to ensure that workers receive proper information and can have a dialogue with central management on decisions taken at EU level that could affect their working or employment conditions. The provisional agreement updates the current rules by clarifying the definition of “transnational matters”. MEPs insisted on the text strengthening workers’ rights by making sure that experts assisting EWCs, including trade union representatives, can attend management meetings in an advisory capacity. EWCs have to aim to have at least 40% of their seats are allotted to members of either gender. Improving consultation rights Companies will have to provide easier access to information and justify why they are refusing to share information or why information has to remain confidential in certain cases. The new rules also improve workers’ consultation rights by ensuring that prior to the adoption of a decision affecting them, their representatives can be consulted. Parliament negotiators secured the right for EWC to meetings with central management in person at least twice a year to discuss the company’s progress. Penalties The co-legislators have strengthened the rules when it comes to financial penalties – making sure they are dissuasive – sanctions, and access to justice when consultation and information rights are harmed. Quote Rapporteur Dennis Radtke (EPP, DE), said: “We don’t want to reinvent the wheel: we just want to strengthen existing rights, simplify procedures, and close the gaps that have repeatedly caused frustration in practice. Employee participation is not an obstacle but a key success factor – especially in the context of the digital and green transitions. Companies benefit from committed employees who are involved on an equal footing. When companies operate at European level, worker participation must also take place at European level. With this reform, we are strengthening Europe’s social dimension Europe and bringing democracy to the workplace.” Next steps Both the Parliament and the Council need to adopt the provisional agreement formally before the rules can enter into force. Background Currently, EWCs and other forms of transnational information and consultation exist in around 1 000 multinational companies, representing approximately 16.6 million EU employees. EWCs can issue non-binding opinions on management decisions on transnational matters relating to any topic affecting workers’ employment conditions. EWCs were originally introduced in 1994 by a directive that was updated in 2009. In February 2023, Parliament adopted a legislative resolution calling on the Commission to revise the 2009 EWC Directive on European Works Councils by 31 January 2024 and to strengthen the EWCs’ role, as the current rules fell short on ensuring democracy at work and enabled information to be restricted on the basis of confidentiality rules. 13. Stock market today: Live updates Stock market today: Live updates Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on May 19, 2025 in New York City. Spencer Platt | Getty Images News | Getty Images S&P 500 futures wavered Tuesday night following a losing session on Wall Street that snapped a winning streak. Futures tied to the broad index shed 0.2%, as did Nasdaq 100 futures. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures lost 93 points, or 0.2%. Tuesday night’s action comes after a tough session for the three major averages. The S&P 500 ended a six-day win streak, while the Nasdaq Composite saw its first negative day in three. The Dow fell more than 100 points, breaking a three-day positive streak. That marks a pullback amid a major recovery rally for U.S. equities. Investors had been cheering progress on trade deals following President Donald Trump’s announcement of broad and steep tariffs last month. All three major averages are still above where they traded on April 2, the day Trump unveiled his import tax policy. The S&P 500 is now up on the year, a sharp reversal after at one point falling on an intraday basis into bear market territory, a term referring to a decline of at least 20% from a recent high. “The equity market’s recovery over the past month has been extraordinary in terms of both speed and scale,” said Kristian Kerr, head of macro strategy at LPL Financial. “While it may be tempting to interpret this powerful rally as a definitive signal that risks have subsided, the reality is that plenty of uncertainty remains.” Investors are continuing to monitor Washington, D.C, for updates on the budget bill and the federal deficit. There is no economic data of note expected on Wednesday. Traders will also parse a plethora of corporate earnings slated for Wednesday. Lowe’s, Target, Canada Goose and TJX Cos. are all expected before the bell, followed by Snowflake after the market closes. 17. Cybersecurity is in a pivotal moment with AI: Palo Alto Networks CEO Cybersecurity is in a pivotal moment with AI: Palo Alto Networks CEO In a Tuesday interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer, Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora said cybersecurity is in a pivotal moment as more companies incorporate artificial intelligence into business. “I think this is a perfect time for security companies to be out there working with our customers to make sure, as we say, ‘deploy AI bravely,’ and it’s going to be an inflection point,” he said. According to Arora, even “naysayers” of AI are now trying to move data to the cloud in order to keep up with competitors. New AI models require the cloud, he said, claiming that businesses will be left behind if they don’t move their company to the platform. He pointed out that tech megacaps are set to spend more than $300 billion on data centers this year, and companies must make sure their technology is secure. Arora also touched on the future of agentic AI, suggesting that, “eventually, you’re going to have to give these agents true agency.” He explained that agents will be able to do things like manage manufacturing capabilities and run production systems — which will stir paranoia for businesses as they wonder if the programs could go “rouge.” Cybersecurity is about protecting agents from hijackers, he continued. Palo Alto Networks posted its quarterly results Tuesday after close, reporting better-than-expected earnings and revenue. However, its gross margin was below estimates. Shares of the company dipped 3.7% in extended trading. Arora said the last quarter was challenging as customers grew anxious about heightened tariffs, pointing in particular to market uncertainty in April. “I think these are phenomenal results in that kind of an execution environment,” he said. 20. Scattered Spider is focus of police investigation Scattered Spider is focus of police investigation Joe Tidy Cyber correspondent, BBC World Service Getty Images Detectives investigating cyber attacks on *** retailers are focussing on a notorious cluster of cyber criminals known to be young English-speakers, some of them teenagers, police have revealed. For weeks speculation has mounted that disruptive attacks on M&S, Co-op, Harrods and some US retailers could be the work of a hacking community called Scattered Spider. Speaking about the hacks for the first time, the National Crime Agency (NCA) has told BBC News the group is a key part of its ongoing investigation to find the culprits. “We are looking at the group that is publicly known as Scattered Spider, but we’ve got a range of different hypotheses and we’ll follow the evidence to get to the offenders,” Paul Foster, head of the NCA’s national cyber crime unit, said in a new BBC documentary. “In light of all the damage that we’re seeing, catching whoever is behind these attacks is our top priority,” he added. The wave of attacks, which began at Easter, have resulted in empty shelves in stores, the suspension of online ordering, and millions of people’s private data being stolen. The attacks have been carried out using DragonForce, a platform that gives criminals the tools to carry out ransomware attacks. However, the hackers pulling the strings have still not been identified and no arrests have been made. Paul Foster, who leads the NCA’s National Cyber Security Centre Some cyber experts say the hackers display the traits of Scattered Spider, a loose community of often young individuals who organise across sites like Discord, Telegram and in forums, most likely located in the *** and US. Although the NCA says it is exploring all parts of the cyber crime ecosystem, it too is looking in the same direction. “We know that Scattered Spider are largely English-speaking but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re in the *** – we know that they communicate online amongst themselves in a range of different platforms and channels, which is, I guess, key to their ability to then be able to operate as a collective,” Mr Foster said. M&S has been hit with ransomware, which has scrambled the company’s servers rendering computer systems useless. The high street giant is still struggling to keep shelves stocked and has halted online shopping for weeks. Hackers have also stolen customer and employee data from the company. At Co-op, staff took systems offline to prevent a ransomware infection but a huge amount of customer and staff data was stolen and is being held to ransom. Operations at the firm’s supermarkets, insurance offices and ******** services have been badly affected. It is not known what is happening at Harrods but the company admitted it had to pull computer systems offline because of an attempted cyber attack. When the hackers behind the M&S and Co-op attacks anonymously contacted the BBC last week, they declined to say whether or not they were Scattered Spider. ‘Tools readily available’ Cyber security researchers at CrowdStrike formed the name “Scattered Spider” because of the group’s sporadic nature, but other cyber companies have given the cluster nicknames including Octo Tempest and Muddled Libra. The group was also linked to high-profile attacks including on two US casinos in 2023 and Transport for London last year. In November, the US charged five British and American men and boys in their twenties and teens for alleged Scattered Spider activity. One is 23-year-old Scottish man Tyler Buchanan, who has not made a plea, and the rest are US based. NCA investigators will not say how the hackers have managed to breach victim organisations but earlier this month, the National Cyber Security Centre issued guidance to organisations urging them to review their IT help desk password reset processes. “Calling up IT help desks is a tactic that Scattered Spider seems to favour and they use social engineering techniques to manipulate someone into doing something like clicking on a link or resetting someone’s account to a password they can use,” Lisa Forte from cyber security firm Red Goat said. In the BBC documentary, a former teen hacker who was arrested nine years ago and now works in cyber security, said he was not surprised that teenagers could be behind the hacks. “It wouldn’t surprise me – quite [the] opposite. The tools are readily available and it’s very easy to jump online and search straight away. You can feel a bit untouchable but for what end? You’re gonna be arrested 99% of the time,” he said. 21. ‘He sprayed me’: Stefano Utoikamanu cops Craig Bellamy lecture on the chin, with prop ready to replace Payne Haas if necessary ‘He sprayed me’: Stefano Utoikamanu cops Craig Bellamy lecture on the chin, with prop ready to replace Payne Haas if necessary One of the main reasons Stefano Utoikamanu joined the Melbourne Storm was so he could develop his game to help him get back in the Origin mix. If Payne Haas doesn’t recover from a quad strain, then the move south will have paid off immediately, with Utoikamanu next in line to join the NSW 17 for the series opener. Utoikamanu is part of the extended squad but will come into the side for the Suncorp Stadium showdown next Wednesday night if Haas isn’t given the all clear to play. The early indications are that the Broncos superstar should be good to go for the game on his home deck, but Laurie Daley has a man champing at the bit to play if called upon. “Payne might not play and you don’t really know what might happen,” Utoikamanu said. “I feel like everyone in this 20-man squad is a chance of playing, even Campbell Graham and Haumole Olakau’atu who are outside of the 17. “Everyone needs to train like they might play, and that’s what I’m going to do this week. “If I don’t play, I’m still very excited to be here and I’m happy to help the team prepare because I want to see these guys beat Queensland.” Utoikamanu played one game off the bench for the Blues in 2023, with his failure to be reselected one of the reasons why he left the Tigers at the end of last season to move to Melbourne. His numbers this season are on par with what he did in previous years, but the hulking prop says it’s the little things that have improved in the Storm system. “My decision to leave the Tigers was based on development, and I feel like I’m trying to take the next steps to be a better player,” he said, fully aware that he had to work on his effort areas under fatigue. “It’s been a bit of a long journey and a bit of a process to get back into this (NSW) squad, and to be honest, I didn’t really expect to be in this squad. “It’s little things in my game in defence and attack (that I’ve improved). “I’m more aware of when to get in and out of tackles, and I’m probably working a bit more with my team. It’s still a bit of a process now and I’m still not the best I can be. “I know I can develop more as a player, but coming into a squad like this when there are already a lot of quality players in my position, looking at how they prepare for games and what they see on the field will help me.” Utoikamanu has already had six wins in the NRL this season to tie his previous season best at the Tigers, but he knows that number should be higher had it not been for a controversial incident at Magic Round. Camera IconUtoikamanu copped it from Storm coach Craig Bellamy after this moment at Magic Round. NRL Photos Credit: Supplied The powerhouse prop was penalised while in possession during golden point despite copping ruck interference and a shove from Blues teammate Hudson Young, with Utoikamanu and Canberra’s Josh Papali’i sent to the sin bin. The Raiders went downfield and won the game, with Utoikamanu copping it from Storm coach Craig Bellamy in the sheds. “Before going there, I knew he was pretty big on standards,” Utoikamanu said. “His biggest thing is your first effort is your best effort. I know the effort areas down there are near the top of the game and they push that a lot down there. “That penalty a couple of weeks ago was a bit tough and he sprayed me a bit after the game. But when you go back and look at it, I felt like I didn’t do that much wrong and I was a little bit hard done by. “But we have a guy who comes in for our mindset and he told me that there are things you can’t change on the field, and the only thing you can control is yourself. “I didn’t control what I did on the field that day, and some of the things I did, I wish I could take back because we lost the game.” Source link #sprayed #Stefano #Utoikamanu #cops #Craig #Bellamy #lecture #chin #prop #ready #replace #Payne #Haas Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

The Bank of Indonesia slashed policy rates in September 2024, and then again in January 2025, but has kept rates on hold at 5.75% since, HSBC noted in a report. “Given growth weakness, Bank of Indonesia may have to embark on a deep rate-cutting cycle,” the bank wrote. “For several reasons, we believe it’s time to restart the easing cycle in May,” the bank’s economists said, citing weak first-quarter GDP growth and weakening currency against the greenback.
