  1. Clean up on this Memorial Day deal with Wolfbox’s MF100 portable Air Duster for just $62 Clean up on this Memorial Day deal with Wolfbox’s MF100 portable Air Duster for just $62 If you’re lucky enough to get a day off on Monday, maybe you want to spend the time giving you’re beloved PC a little maintenance. No matter how clean you keep your home, electrical equipment always attracts dust, and with PCs having cases that pull in air from outside to keep cool, there’s always a fresh intake of said dust on a daily basis. To keep everything running in tiptop condition, it’s a good idea to apply a regular maintenance schedule, with part of that maintenance being a good dust blowout. So if you fancy a shiny new handheld blower for blowing the dust and cobwebs out of your filters and fans and giving the internal components of your PC a quick once-over, check out this Memorial Day deal at Newegg. On ***** at the lowest price I’ve seen, the MF100 Air Duster from Wolfbox is just $62 when you use code MDSESA995 at checkout. You’re saving a total of $77 from the original $139 list price. Wolfbox’s MF100 electric air duster comes with 5 nozzles in varying sizes and 2 different brushes, handy for getting into those hard-to-reach areas. The force of air generated by the MF100 is pretty impressive, thanks to a 150,000 RPM turbofan with a maximum wind speed of 45 m/s. This convenient blower is battery-powered and supports USB Type-C charging. The MF100 fully charges in 2.5 hours and provides up to 100 minutes of runtime on the first setting. The MF100 is small and compact, weighing only 0.66lb, so it can be easily stored when not in use, and can also be used for other tasks, like inflating mattresses and pool equipment to blowing leaves off the car. 2. Republicans plan attack ads on Democrats in Trump districts who opposed GOP agenda bill Republicans plan attack ads on Democrats in Trump districts who opposed GOP agenda bill The House Republicans’ campaign arm is focusing a new advertising campaign on Democrats from politically risky seats who voted against the GOP’s sweeping effort to cut taxes and pass Medicaid work requirements, setting the stage for what may prove to be one of the biggest political messaging clashes of next year’s midterms. Republicans in Washington are attempting to use their control of Congress and the White House to put in place major conservative agenda items sought by President Donald Trump and his allies through one massive piece of legislation, titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” The House GOP’s narrow passage of Trump’s agenda earlier this week has set off a struggle between Republicans and Democrats to sway voters about the impact of the bill that is widely expected to play a large role in the 2026 midterm elections, where control of the House will be decided. In a statement about the advertising campaign, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Marinella said the campaign arm “will make sure voters don’t forget how [House Democrats] betrayed working families.” The round of digital advertisements places a particular emphasis on the tax portion of the Trump agenda bill, which continues key parts of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was the centerpiece of his first term in office. Plans show the ads will target 25 House Democrats and make the argument that by opposing this week’s bill, the Democrats voted “for the largest U.S. tax hike in generations.” Of those 25 districts, 13 are seats where a Democrat won the House contest while Trump carried the district in the presidential race. Republicans’ best chance at padding their narrow majority next year could come in places that had some of the closest Congressional races in the entire country during the 2024 presidential election, including a California seat where the Democratic candidate ousted a Republican incumbent by less than 200 votes. Other areas closely watched by the GOP that are also the subject of the latest ad campaign include two Democrat-held seats in the red state of Ohio, districts Trump won in the battleground states of North Carolina and Michigan, as well as seats that could prove to be competitive in New York, New Jersey and New Mexico. Yet while many House Republicans in Washington are cheering the legislation, Democrats see ample political liabilities for their opponents. Democratic leaders view the House as the party’s best chance at quickly winning back power in Washington during Trump’s presidency, given the perils an incumbent president’s party routinely faces in a midterm election and the small number of seats it would likely take to flip control of the chamber. The GOP’s targeting of Medicaid in particular has quickly been seized on by the left as a major campaign issue, as Democrats charge the Republican agenda’s changes imperil healthcare for millions of people. “America cannot afford the Republican tax scam. Now that vulnerable Republicans are on the record voting for it, this betrayal of the American people will cost them their jobs in the midterms and Republicans the House Majority come 2026,” Washington Rep. Suzan DelBene, the chair of the House Democratic campaign arm, said in a statement earlier this week. It remains to be seen however what kind of bill can eventually make it to Mr. Trump’s desk, given the changes the GOP-led Senate may make once it gets its hands on the legislation. 5. How are credit scores calculated? How are credit scores calculated? Are you confused about how credit scores are calculated? If so, you’re not the only one. In my past experience working as a credit counselor and financial educator, I discovered that this topic perplexed most consumers, and for good reason. Credit scores are not calculated using simple mathematical formulas. Instead, they’re calculated using algorithms that weigh many data points, including your length of credit history, the amount of debt you owe, and more. So, it makes sense that credit scores are difficult to understand. That said, there are basic principles anyone can learn to help them understand their scores better. This embedded content is not available in your region. A credit score is your credit history represented as a number. It’s a three-digit figure you can look at to tell you whether your credit history, as recorded in your credit reports, is mostly positive or negative. The more positive history you have in your reports, the higher your scores will be. One helpful way to understand credit scores is to imagine you’re a student who just turned in a writing assignment. Think of your essay as a credit report, since it’s a document that shows the work you’ve done. And the grade you receive is your credit score. If I want to quickly determine how good your writing is, I can simply look at your grade or even compare it to other students’ grades. Similar to grades, credit scores give you a quick way to evaluate what’s in your credit reports and see how you’re doing compared to other consumers — and they allow lenders and credit card issuers to do the same. Read more: Average credit score by age: How do your scores compare? One of the most common misconceptions I’ve heard people repeat about credit scores is that each person only has one score. The truth is that each person has multiple credit scores. On top of that, there can be a lot of variation from one of your scores to the next, and your scores can even change from day to day. Why do you have so many different scores? Several elements go into creating a score, including: The scoring company: Multiple companies calculate credit scores. FICO is the most common scoring model used by most lenders, but VantageScore is another popular option. The algorithm: FICO alone offers dozens of different scores that can be used in specific scenarios. For example, there are FICO scores made specifically for approving auto loan applications. The credit report: Each credit score is based on the information in just one of your credit reports, but you have three different reports to choose from (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion), and there might be different information in each one. The scoring range: Traditional credit scores use a range from 300 to 850, but some variations score you anywhere from 250 to 990. This leaves a lot of room for variation in your credit scores. For this reason, lenders typically want to look at several of your credit scores before approving you for a major lending decision like a new car loan or mortgage. Credit scores are based on a few specific categories of information listed in your credit reports. When it comes to FICO scores, five categories go into your calculation. In my experience, people often mistakenly assume that each factor is equally important, or they fixate on the categories that have minimal impact on their scores. But if you want to build great credit, you’ll need to put more focus on the categories with the most weight. Here’s a breakdown of each of the five categories used to calculate your FICO scores: For VantageScore, the categories used to calculate your credit scores are a bit different. However, VantageScore models essentially use the same information as FICO, but they break it down into more specific categories. Read more: VantageScore vs. FICO: How these two major credit scoring models compare If you’re hoping to improve your credit scores, it’s important to know both what is and is not included in your score calculations. For instance, nondebt accounts are not included in your credit scores unless you use an alternative scoring service such as Experian Boost or TruVIsion. The following types of accounts do not impact your traditional credit scores unless your payment is overdue and the account goes to collections: As for buy now, pay later (BNPL) loans, the impact on your credit scores varies by company. In 2025, Affirm announced it would begin reporting users’ payment information to Experian. With Sezzle, on the other hand, you have to opt in to Sezzle Up if you want your loan to impact your credit. Klarna loans do not currently impact credit scores. Credit scores are typically recalculated once a month. However, if you’re tracking your scores, you might notice credit score updates more or less frequently. That’s because your lenders and credit card companies usually report your account information to the credit bureaus on a monthly basis, but they don’t all do it on the same date. For that reason, you may see your credit scores shift, even if nothing has changed on your end. Source link #credit #scores #calculated Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  6. Space Marine 2 Fans About to Have a Field Day on June 26 Space Marine 2 Fans About to Have a Field Day on June 26 If you’re a Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 player, it’s time to mark your calendar. June 26 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting days in the game’s post-launch life. The long-awaited Siege Mode has finally been revealed during the recent Warhammer Skulls Showcase. The upcoming update will be entirely free and will introduce a new PvE mode alongside two cosmetic DLCs for the Season Pass. From battling an endless horde to the ability to summon a Dreadnought into battle, this update is going to be a big one. Space Marine 2 is getting a new game mode that we’ve all been waiting for The biggest part of the new update is the Siege Mode, a free PvE co-op mode coming to Space Marine 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Designed for squads of three, the mode will put us against never-ending waves of Tyranid and Chaos forces in the defense of an Imperial fortress on the jungle world of Kadaku. New Siege mode for Space Marine 2 lands June 26 Face impossible odds as you encounter waves of Tyranids: pic.twitter.com/Ka4Y6LykpZ — PlayStation (@PlayStation) May 22, 2025 You might remember the fortress from the first mission of the game’s campaign, but it has now become a last stand where players must hold out for as long as possible. If you’re eager to play the new mode early, Siege will go live on PC’s Public Test Server starting June 4. It’s like Saber Interactive saw the latest Hellivers 2 update and didn’t want to miss out on the action. One of the biggest features of Siege Mode is that we’ll be able to summon a Dreadnought. Specifically, Brother Valtus, the mighty Redemptor from the Ultramarines 2nd Company. While we won’t be able to pilot it directly, we can call him in for support. This won’t just be a show of firepower because it also shows the kind of fan service that Warhammer fans crave. So this means that we’ll have a seamless experience in terms of progression. It also allows those who haven’t hit level 25 to continue leveling up. Saber Interactive is nowhere near one with the post-launch support There’s even more post-launch support coming | Image Credit: Saber Interactive While the Siege update is a centerpiece for the game’s current season, there’s much more in the pipeline. According to Willits, Space Marine 2’s post-launch support will continue beyond Year One. We can expect new missions, additional weapons, an entirely new class, and even more cosmetic content. And in case you were wondering, Siege Mode will remain locked to three-player squads. Willits explains that a fourth player made balancing too difficult without breaking the experience. Still, the studio has remained supportive of the game’s modding community and its efforts. One of them is the 12-player co-op mod, which you can try out. Looking beyond June, there’s more coming in Season 4. We’re also getting a new PvP game mode, a new Chaos enemy, and further changes to classes. A new class is also in development, though Saber is keeping details under wraps for now. What do you think of this upcoming mode? Let us know in the comments! 12. Fans give cautious welcome to plan for live-action film of video game Fans give cautious welcome to plan for live-action film of video game Helen Bushby & Alex Taylor Culture reporter Getty Images A fan of Elden Ring attended last year’s Comic **** in New York dressed as the game’s Ranni the Witch Fans have reacted with a mixture of excitement and caution to the news that hit game Elden Ring is to be made into a live-action film. The epic dark fantasy game will be adapted by Alex Garland, who is known for movies like Ex Machina and Warfare, along with US entertainment company A24. “I am very excited,” said TikToker Blue Thunder, adding that he hopes it will stay faithful to the game. Grant Greenly added on TikTok: “All the lore, all the action, all the Elden lords, all the fights… it’s more than we could ask for. This is going to be awesome.” However, gaming journalist Christopher Dring, host of the Games Business Show podcast, told the BBC that “translating something like Elden Ring is no small feat”. “Video games have become the new comic books for Hollywood right now,” he said. “After the huge success of Minecraft, Mario and Sonic at the box office, plus Fallout and The Last of Us on the smaller screen, movie producers have been scrambling to sign all sorts of games, from the biggest proven brands to entirely unproven properties that haven’t even come out yet.” Elden Ring is “one of the most critically acclaimed fantasy games out there”, he said, with more than 30 million players and the involvement of Game of Thrones author George RR Martin, who helped create its original story. “So it has a lot going for it.” But he added: “We have seen plenty of game adaptations fail to succeed on the big screen, including last year’s Borderlands movie, which had a strong cast and was directed by Eli Roth. But it’s very much the trend, and it’s only growing.” ‘I’m scared’ Elden Ring is a role-playing adventure game set in the war-torn, devastated Lands Between, where players must collect runes which represent that world’s order and laws, in order to restore it and become the Elden Lord. TikToker Everythingethan added a note of caution, saying: “I want to know what part of the timeline we’re adapting… I don’t know if I want to see this live action. I think it would be kind of cursed at times. I think animation is the best way to adapt video games nine times out of 10.” Other fans speculated about which elements of the game’s story would become the focus of the film, while another simply said: “This will be very bad, or meh.” Some suggested it would work better as a TV series, while others said they felt “conflicted”, with one saying: “You can’t really justify a gaming experience that takes your average player anywhere from 20-40 hours to beat and cram it all into a 2 hour movie.” Some gamers also welcomed the involvement of A24, which has previously worked with Garland on films including Annihilation, Men and Civil War. “I’m scared. I love this game too much to watch it be ‘tarnished’,” said another. In a statement, the game’s publisher Bandai Namco said: “We’re truly excited to bring the world of Elden Ring to fans in a new form, outside the game. “Stay tuned. The path ahead is only beginning.” Mixed results of past adaptations Gaming is a booming market that comes with a young, built-in fanbase. The plan to bring Elden Ring to the big screen comes after recent successes for adaptations, following years of mixed results. The latest wave began in earnest with the blockbuster triumph of 2023’s The Super Mario Bros Movie, which has now raked in a staggering $1.4bn (£1.1bn) at the global box office. One of the film’s stars, Jack ******, told BBC News at the time: “We will be seeing more storytelling from the gaming universe.” He’s been proved right – and was also on board for this year’s A Minecraft Movie, a global hit that has grossed more than $900m (£666m). Beyond financials, it’s also seen unprecedented audience participation from younger fans at screenings – many of whom are more accustomed to streaming and gaming than the traditional cinema experience. It’s no surprise that a spate of other game franchise adaptations are already in the works. Mortal Kombat and Five Nights at Freddy’s film sequels are due later this year, with Super Mario Bros 2 and a new Resident Evil film hitting cinemas in 2026. A Legend of Zelda movie is also slated for release in 2027. Yet while cinema has banked on gaming’s mass appeal, it is on the small screen where the depth of modern-day gaming storylines has really shone. The critically-acclaimed The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic survival drama centred around the heartfelt relationship between Joel and Ellie – played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in HBO’s Emmy Award-winning live-action version – has proven that affecting, mature storylines can come from games just as readily as child-friendly technicolour. Amazon’s popular adaptation of politically-tinged nuclear wasteland thriller Fallout is another example. Elden Ring may look to transfer this grit to the big screen, produced by A24 – a studio known for thought-provoking titles like the Oscar-nominated Aftersun and horror Midsommar. After all, the franchise is notoriously tough to play and complete, so is definitely not one for younger gamers. Elden Ring might just be the adult gaming crossover Hollywood is looking for. 13. Final Outpost: Definitive Edition release date pushed back to next month Final Outpost: Definitive Edition release date pushed back to next month Final Outpost: Definitive Edition’s launch date has been pushed back to next month You’ll need to wait a bit longer to enjoy a survival strategy zombie experience But don’t fret, because you’ll be able to enjoy it fully-formed with this time for extra polish Sadly for fans of Final Outpost, it seems that it’s such an authentic zombie experience that it also embodies one of the most famous aspects of the undead. Being terribly slow, that is. Final Outpost: Definitive Edition has been pushed back, although only to June 12th, so you won’t need to wait too long for it to arrive. While that’s going to be disappointing for fans, it wouldn’t really be fair to criticise Exabyte Games. Final Outpost is already a great experience for fans of zombie survival strategy, and the definitive edition promises to revamp that further. That includes a bunch of major new mechanics. For one, you can now settle multiple outposts with each new map boasting modifiers that change weather, seasons and zombie behaviour! There’s also the appearance of the Trader, which adds an entirely new aspect to your survival attempts and lets you build a functional economy alongside your subsistence. They’re coming to get you, Barbara What Final Outpost lacks in visual flair, it more than makes up for in terms of depth. The core gameplay is very much the same, with you establishing a survivor’s outpost and managing the tasks of your individual members. Naturally, you’ll be contending not just with the living dead but also food, shelter and other necessities. While it’s a shame that it’s been pushed back, it also means that we’re going to have the chance to play a proper, fully-formed version of Final Outpost that’s been fully polished and optimised. But in the meantime, if you need something to tide you over, there are plenty of great launches on mobile that you can play right now! Don’t believe me? 15. Harvard foreign student ban may affect Belgian princess Harvard foreign student ban may affect Belgian princess Belgium’s Royal Palace says Princess Elisabeth, who is first in line to the throne, is waiting to find out whether she can return to Harvard for her second year after US President Donald Trump announced a ban on foreign students at the university. Trump’s administration on Thursday revoked Harvard University’s ability to enrol international students in its escalating battle with the Ivy League school, saying thousands of students must transfer to other schools or leave the country. “We are looking into the situation, to see what kind of impact this decision might have on the princess, or not. It’s too early to say right now,” said the palace’s communications head Xavier Baert. Baert said that Princess Elisabeth, aged 23, has completed her first year of a graduate school program at Harvard and would spend the summer back in Belgium. “And we’ll have to see what happens next year,” he said. The princess is the first of four children born to King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, and has been studying for a Master in Public Policy. Last year, she obtained a degree in history and politics at Lincoln College at Oxford in the United Kingdom. Harvard enrols almost 6800 foreign students at its campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, accounting for more than a quarter of its student body. Most are graduate students, coming from more than 100 countries. The university filed a lawsuit on Friday in federal court in Boston, saying that the administration’s action violates the constitution and will have an “immediate and devastating effect for Harvard and more than 7000 visa holders”. 16. Use grep to search Linux files and directories smarter Use grep to search Linux files and directories smarter You’re looking for that one file, the one that contains the all important information for your next meeting. Do you manually search all of your files? That will take time. Instead we use a little Linux command line magic. Grep is a pattern matching command that we can use to search inside files and directories for specific text. Grep is commonly used with the output of one command, piped to be the input of the grep command. For example we can search inside a file for a specific string of text using the less command, and pipe the output to grep. In this how-to we will use the grep command and commonly added arguments to search for specific strings of data within files. We’ll begin by setting up a small directory of test files as searching an entire filesystem can take some time and create a lot of results. All the commands in this how-to will work on most Linux machines. We’ve used an Ubuntu LTS install but you could run this how-to on a Raspberry Pi. All of the how-to is performed via the Terminal. You can open a terminal window on most Linux machines by pressing ctrl, alt and t. You may like Set Up a Test Environment for grep (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) As grep can be used in lots of different ways we need to set up a directory and some content that allow us to explore its uses. In this section we will create this test environment. 1. Set up a test directory and change directory so that you are inside it. mkdir test cd test 2.Create 4 files, test1, test2, test3 and test4. touch test1 test2 test3 test4 ls 3. Edit test1 using nano to contain the following names on separate lines. Note that in test1 none of the names contain capitals. After editing in nano press control x to exit, press y to confirm the save and then press enter. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. nano test1 4. Add the following text to the file. Then press CTRL + X, then Y and Enter to save and exit. ali mohamed claire aled steve 5. Edit test2 using nano. In test2 we will add a single longer line of test containing the name steve. nano test2 6. Add the following text to the file. Then press CTRL + X, then Y and Enter to save and exit. this is a long line of test that contains the name steve 7. Edit test3 in nano. Similar to test1 we will add a list of names on separate lines but this list will include the name steven. nano test3 8. Add the following text to the file. Then press CTRL + X, then Y and Enter to save and exit. alice geoff murbarak mohamed steven 9. Finally edit test4 to complete our test environment. Note that in this file we are using a capital letter at the start of Steve. nano test4 10. Add the following text to the file. Then press CTRL + X, then Y and Enter to save and exit. Steve ? Simple Searches with grep (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Searching a file for a specific string is extremely useful. For example when debugging an error in a log file. Let’s start using grep in its most basic form. The grep command syntax is simply grep followed by any arguments, then the string we wish to search for and then finally the location in which to search. 1. Search test1 for the string steve using grep. The search criteria is case sensitive so ensure that you’re searching correctly. Notice that the word steve is simply returned in red to indicate it has been found in the file. grep steve test1 2. Search for the same string in multiple files. We can simply add a list of files to the grep command for it to search. Notice that, with multiple search areas, the returned results are tagged with each filename from which the result is found. Also notice that grep returns the complete line of text that contains the searched string. grep steve test1 test2 3. Search all files within the directory. Adding an asterisk forces grep to search all files within the current directory. Notice that the returned results include the result from test3 where the search string steve is contained within Steven. Note also that these results don’t contain the result from test4 as in its basic form the grep command is case sensitive. grep steve * 4. Add the argument -i to make grep case insensitive. This will return results from all four of the test files in the directory. grep -i steve * Piping output to grep The strongest use case for grep is when it is paired with another command. Using pipes we send the output of a command to grep and use it to search for patterns / keywords. 1. Open a new terminal window. 2. Use lsusb to list all of the USB devices attached to your machine. This will also list internal USB devices, such as laptop webcams. The output will differ depending on your machine, but you should be met with a wall of text. lsusb (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 3. Use the lsusb command again, but this time use grep to search for Linux. By adding a pipe between lsusb and grep the output of the first command is used as the input of the second. lsusb | grep Linux (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Using dmesg and grep to Inspect the Kernel Ring Buffer Let’s try something a little more complex. This time we’ll use dmesg and grep to inspect the Kernel Ring Buffer (essentially the kernel’s log file). We are going to search for a keyword in dmesg, “secureboot”, and confirm that it is enabled. 1. Open a terminal and run the dmesg command using sudo. This will print a wall of console output to the terminal, something that we can search using grep. sudo dmesg (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) 2. Use the grep command to search for “secureboot” in the dmesg output. Use the -i argument to turn off case-sensitivity so that we catch every occurrence of secureboot. The output will show the lines at which secureboot appears in dmesg. sudo dmesg | less | grep -i secureboot (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Other Uses of grep (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Like many Linux commands there are many useful additions and variants for the grep command. Let’s look at a couple of interesting examples. 1. Perform an inverted search using the -v argument. This will return a list of every line from the test environment files that doesn’t contain the search string steve. This argument is useful to dismiss occurrences of strings in logs or files when debugging an issue. Note that again the results are case sensitive and therefore they include the line containing the capitalized Steve ? from test4. grep -v steve * 2. Combine the -v and -i arguments to exclude all matching strings regardless of case. grep -vi steve * 3. Search for a string that contains non alphanumeric text or spaces. If you include a search string with a space or other non alphanumeric text this can break the grep command syntax, to create a search string containing these you need to use quotes to contain the string. In this step we are searching for “Steve ?” which is contained in the test4 file. grep “Steve ?” * Searching Subdirectories with grep (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Like many Linux commands there are many useful additions and variants for the grep command. In this step we are searching for “Steve ?” which is contained in the test4 file. grep “Steve ?” * Searching Subdirectories with grep (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Often we will want to search for a string in the files contained in sub directories. We can do this simply by adding the -r recursive argument to the grep command. 1. Create a subdirectory containing a test file within the test directory. mkdir sub_directory cd sub_directory touch test5 2. Open test5 using the nano text editor and add the text “steve in a sub directory” to the file. Then press CTRL + X, then Y and Enter to save and exit. nano test5. 3. Return to the test directory and perform a search adding the -r option. Notice that the result for test5 includes the location of the file listed in the output. cd .. grep -r steve * (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) With grep in Linux, you have a good collection of approaches for searching out file contents across your system. As with many Linux commands it can be worthwhile looking at the help menu to see all the varied arguments you can add to grep. Run grep –h in a terminal emulator to check out all the options. Next are Infusions, which imbue the spell with its elemental damage type and some special effects. Lastly, players can equip three Arcana, which are used to modify the spell in a variety of ways, from granting players Unstoppable after using their Horadric spell to gaining Stealth for several seconds after use. Some Legendary Arcana grant fairly powerful effects, like the Floaty Bobble Arcana, which adds a Blink component to the spell, or the Bloody Charm, which simply executes non-boss enemies with 10% life or less when the spell is activated. The Horadric Spellcraft system isn’t entirely different from how seasonal powers have worked in previous seasons (a common complaint among the playerbase), but does seem to give players more flexibility than before in terms of both what powers and what damage types they want to use. However, Horadric Spellcrafting will just be one component of Season 9. Blizzard, in its quest, to continue improving base elements of Diablo 4’s endgame (as detailed in Diablo 4’s 2025 roadmap) is also putting a heavy emphasis on Nightmare dungeons, with new positive affixes that will benefit players in the form of more specialized crafting rewards or specific types of gear. Players will also (finally) be able to jump into a new Nightmare dungeon while still inside a different one, rather than having to leave the dungeon. New for the season will be Horadric Strongrooms and Escalating Nightmares. Strongrooms are mini-dungeons inside Nightmare dungeons where players will use a wayfinder to find a hidden Horadric vault. Players will need to battle through demons in a set amount of time in order to claim the Strongroom’s rewards, and the difficulty of the Strongroom, and its rewards, can be adjusted and increased by activating various modifiers similar to players add modifiers in the Infernal Hordes activity. Additionally, players earn Horadric Jewels to put in their gear to further modify their Horadric spell. Escalating Nightmares is a new spin on Nightmare dungeons that sees the effects of three different Nightmare dungeons stack in succession. Players will need to earn Escalation Sigils from Horadric Storerooms to challenge the Escalating Nightmares. Those who survive all three dungeons in succession will then battle against a new boss encounter with Astaroth, who players may remember from Diablo 4’s base campaign. Diablo 4 Season 9 will be playable on the game’s PTR from May 27 to June 3, as Blizzard looks to test the season’s new systems as well as various balance changes and new Unique items. According to Diablo 4’s in-game timers, Season 9 proper will begin July 1. Meanwhile, Diablo 4 Season 8, Belial’s Return, is in full swing, having revamped the game’s endgame boss cycle and battle pass (the latter of which hasn’t exactly gone over well). The season also marked Diablo 4’s first external IP collab with Berserk, even if the event itself is largely a wasted opportunity. That worked out to the equivalent of 4.6 million *** adults, based on the 17,950 participants in the watchdog’s 2024 Financial Lives survey, published last week. This figure was only slightly higher from the 8.3% — the equivalent of 4.4 million adults — that said they had received regulated financial advice in the FCA’s 2022 survey. The FCA’s survey also found that 39% of *** adults — the equivalent of 21.2 million — held investments in 2024. Excluding those with an investment property or other real investments (such as wine, art or jewellery) but with no other investment products, this proportion fell to 35%, which was down from 37% in 2022. 20. Gilmour and McTominay mania takes over Naples for title decider Gilmour and McTominay mania takes over Naples for title decider Chris McLaughlin BBC Scotland sports news correspondent Getty Images McTominay and Gilmour have made a big impression on the Italian side and its fans “You aren’t ready for the party Naples will have tonight”. SSC Napoli fans Francesco Giordano and Vincenzo Liberti have been up since before 07:00 this morning. They’re nervous and excited ahead of one of their team’s biggest matches. In this one club city, everyone is praying for the party that can only begin with one more victory. The victory that would see Napoli claim just their fourth Scudetto ever. With one round of fixtures remaining, Antonio Conte’s side sit just a single point above serial winners Inter and so a nail-biting finale it is. Napoli host Cagliari and Inter travel to in-form Como. SSC Napoli fans Vincenzo and Francesco cannot wait for the big match on Friday Francesco tells BBC Scotland news: “We are buzzing. We just can’t wait. We are just so passionate about it and can’t wait to experience this wonderful end of the season. “If it happens, everybody is going to go bananas and it will be something you’ve never experienced.” Vincenzo agrees and says a win will set of fireworks, adding: “You are not ready for what will happen tonight. It’s a party of the city not just the team.” Down the narrow streets of the Spanish quarter, flags fly from balconies next to freshly washed laundry. Blue and white ribbons and streamers have been stretched high across the streets of the shopping district and, in the old port, bunting flutters from the boats bobbing in the Mediterranean. The Neapolitans are superstitious. Few here will give predictions for the match but what locals are happy to talk about is how two Scots have played an integral part in taking their side to the brink of glory – Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. McTominay and Gilmour have played an integral part in Napoli’s success this season Francesco said the pair made a big impression on the fans. “They conquered our hearts,” he said. “Billy came in during difficult moments and played a crucial role throughout the whole season. “Scott McTominay, we are lost for words for him. He is an unbelievable player and we just hope tonight he can conquer the final moment of the season and score for all of us. “We are so passionate about it and the players absolutely felt that and once they settled and found their way they started to play well – they are wonderful.” At the start of the season Scott McTominay signed from Manchester United for £25m. The club also secured the services of McTominay’s international team mate, Billy Gilmour from Brighton. Price tag – £12m. Few could have predicted the impact they would make and the hero status that would follow. Napoli fans say Scottish courage will help them Gilmour has played 25 games and is hailed in the city as the man who builds from the back and makes things happen. McTominay has found the net 11 times in 33 appearances and is second only to Romalu Lukaku in terms of goals scored for Napoli this season. He has also drawn level with Denis Law in the top ranked Scots in Serie A. Law spent a season with Torino in 1963 and notched up 11 goals of his own before heading back to the ***. “McTominay really is the story of Serie A this season,” said local football journalist Vincenzo Credendino. “The people here can see how hard he works for the team and in this city that is so important.” McTominay and Gilmour have hero status at Napoli McTominay’s nickname in Naples is McFratm The love for McTimonay is such that his image adorns the walls of Naples next to the murals of the city’s favourite son, Diego Maradona. The Scot even has a special shrine in Vico San Nicola al Nilo, and a nickname – “McFratm”. Fratm is a colloquial term in this part of Italy that essentially translates to “bro”. Nobody is quite sure who it was that added the Scottish “Mc” but when you mention the word McTominay in this city, people instantly smile and say “McFratm.” It seems it’s a nickname that’s set to stick. The love for both players has come, not just from their abilities on the pitch and the part played in getting the club so close to Italian football’s promised land, but from their desire to be part of Neapolitan life. In this fiercely proud part of Italy, Gilmour’s ability and desire to pick up the language and his fellow countryman’s much publicised love of the local tomatoes, means a lot here. Blue and white ribbons and streamers have been stretched high across the streets of the shopping district and in the old port At Napoli, it’s about more than just kissing the badge. “The Neapolitans and the Scots are similar, I think,” Vincenzo Credendino said. “Maybe it’s about both places having a history of resisting. “But I think the people here can see that the players love Naples. “They take many pictures around the city and talk openly about how much they love the food – that is very important here.” Now, what both parties in this football love-in would like is for this story to end with the biggest celebration of all. At one of football’s biggest clubs, two Scots are to be found at its beating heart. If they deliver just once more this season and get Napoli over the line, both will be immortalised in a city where footballers are worshipped like gods. 21. A Daedric Artifact That Spells More Trouble Than Respite in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered A Daedric Artifact That Spells More Trouble Than Respite in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered In the world of Oblivion Remastered, few things carry as much mystique and weight as the Daedric Artifacts. These rare relics, each tied to a powerful Daedric Prince, are often seen as prized possessions, tools of immense power that can define a player’s build. But not all artifacts are created equal. One, in particular, has gained a reputation for being more trouble than it’s worth: the Sanguine Rose. If you’ve ever wielded this staff, you know it’s less a trusty companion and more a ticking time bomb, waiting to ruin your day. The Sanguine Rose: The chaos bringer in Oblivion Remastered At its core, the Sanguine Rose is a magical staff that summons a Daedric minion to fight alongside you. It is acquired by completing the quest “Sanguine” for the Daedric Prince Sanguine at the Shrine of Sanguine (yeah, too many Sanguines, we know). Sounds promising, right? Unfortunately, this “helpful” Daedra isn’t the reliable ally you might hope for. While unique, it is uniquely bad. First of all, the strength of the summon varies greatly (in most cases, minimal damage). Secondly, the summoned Daedra sticks around for a mere 20 seconds before vanishing. But that short cooldown might be a blessing in disguise, since the Daedra minions can turn hostile towards the summoner… yes, you. Instead of assisting in battle, it may decide you’re the enemy, attacking you in a chaotic twist that often leads to frustrating and unintended fights. This RNG factor means that every time you use the staff, you’re rolling the dice (either you are summoning an ally or a foe), making it one of the most unreliable artifacts in the game. The high risk and low reward make the staff a weapon that no serious player wants to depend on, unless you enjoy gambling with your survival. Unlike other artifacts that grant powerful enchantments or stat boosts, this staff’s signature ability is essentially a wild card, one that often backfires. A convenient escape route from this Daedric Artifact If unpredictability were a weapon, the staff would be legendary. | Image Credit: Bethesda If you’re familiar with the main questline, specifically the Blood of the Daedra quest, you know that players are required to hand over a Daedric Artifact to Martin Septim. This exchange is permanent, and once given, you won’t get the artifact back. This should make the choice especially tough, or does it? Luckily for players burdened by the Sanguine Rose, this quest presents the perfect opportunity to part ways with this troublesome staff. Given the Sanguine Rose’s drawbacks, it stands out as the ideal candidate to sacrifice. You lose an artifact that is more likely to get you killed than help, while keeping your more useful treasures safe and sound. Even Martin isn’t very fond of the staff. Hand it over to him during the quest, and he’ll admit he once owned the staff. And let’s just say things went as planned for him: after some mysterious mishap involving the staff, he ended up becoming the priest. Oh, and that little incident? Yeah, it tragically took the lives of a few of his friends. Talk about a cursed souvenir. In the end, when the time comes in the Blood of the Daedra quest, do yourself a favor: give Martin the Sanguine Rose and free yourself from one of the most unreliable and frustrating artifacts in Cyrodiil. Your future self will thank you. 23. Judge extends order preventing Trump administration from laying offs of thousands of federal workers Judge extends order preventing Trump administration from laying offs of thousands of federal workers Washington — A federal judge on Thursday continued to block the Trump administration from moving forward with its plans to lay off thousands of government workers at more than 20 federal agencies, providing federal employees a lifeline as a legal challenge to President Trump’s bid to restructure the federal government moves forward. The preliminary injunction granted by U.S. District Judge Susan Illston covers 21 federal agencies and the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency and prevents them from implementing reductions-in-force, placing employees on administrative leave and proceeding with job cuts that are already in motion. The judge, who sits on the federal court in San Francisco, also barred agencies from implementing any orders by the Elon Musk-led DOGE to cut programs or staff in connection with an executive order signed by President Trump in February that seeks to transform the executive branch. The agencies affected include the Departments of Health and Human Services and Veterans Affairs, as well as AmeriCorps and the Social Security Administration, among others. While Illston also granted retrospective relief by ordering federal agencies to rescind any reductions-in-force, or layoffs, issued under the president’s February directive and to reinstate government workers who were put on administrative leave, she paused those components of her decision while the administration pursues an appeal. The Justice Department informed the court on Friday that it will be asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit to review Illston’s decision. In a 51-page ruling, Illston wrote that presidents do have the authority to seek changes to federal agencies, and nine presidents have over the last century sought to reorganize the executive branch — but only after obtaining approval from Congress. “Presidents may set policy priorities for the executive branch, and agency heads may implement them. This much is undisputed,” the judge said. “But Congress creates federal agencies, funds them, and gives them duties that — by statute — they must carry out. Agencies may not conduct large-scale reorganizations and reductions in force in blatant disregard of Congress’s mandates, and a president may not initiate large-scale executive branch reorganization without partnering with Congress.” She said that the plaintiffs in the case, which are labor unions, nonprofit organizations and local governments, are likely to succeed on their claim that Mr. Trump’s executive order usurps Congress’s constitutional powers and exceeds his authority. “Put simply, in this case, defendants want the court to either declare that nine presidents and twenty-one Congresses did not properly understand the separation of powers, or ignore how the executive branch is implementing large-scale reductions in force and reorganizations. The court can do neither,” Illston wrote. Illston had issued a two-week temporary restraining order on May 9 that directed the Trump administration to pause its plans to lay off vast swaths of the federal workforce. That temporary order was set to expire Friday. Her preliminary injunction now extends the initial block on the administration’s restructuring of the federal government as the case proceeds. The Trump administration already asked the Supreme Court earlier this month to allow it to move forward with its reductions-in-force, seeking emergency relief in a request that arose out of Illston’s temporary restraining order. The high court has not yet acted on that bid, though the Justice Department will likely ask the Supreme Court to lift Illston’s injunction. Mr. Trump’s February executive order directed agencies to make plans to initiate “large -scale” reductions in force as part of his initiative to slash the size of the federal government. On the heels of the president’s directive, the Office of Personnel Management and Office of Management and Budget issued a memo directing agencies to submit plans for two phases of job cuts, due March 13 and April 14. The Trump administration has said in filings that 40 reductions-in-force at 17 agencies were in progress but blocked by Illston’s May 9 order. The plans target thousands of federal workers, including up to 10,000 at the Department of Health and Human Services, 8,500 at the Energy Department and half of the workforce at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. The Department of Veterans Affairs has said it intends to slash 83,000 positions. The reductions-in-force are separate from the mass terminations of probationary workers, who generally were in their positions for one or two years. But those firings, which took place in February, have also been the focus of lawsuits. Mr. Trump’s government-shrinking efforts began shortly after he returned to the White House. The president created DOGE, a cost-cutting task force led by Musk, and his administration has taken steps to dismantle agencies like the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 24. 2025 Smart #5 review: Quick drive 2025 Smart #5 review: Quick drive Once upon a time, Smart was a brand that specialised in small city cars, but modern legislation and market forces have coaxed the company into a change of tack. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert Not only are the existing Smart #1 and Smart #3 compact electric SUVs much more family-sized than many of the products Smart has previously built, but the new 2025 Smart #5 really is a big electric SUV. Although it looks smaller than most, it’s much the same size as the Volkswagen ID.4, and it’s every bit as spacious inside, so it’s very different from the cars Smart was previously known for. The question is whether the new-look brand can capture buyers’ imaginations in the same way, and whether the #5 is capable of mixing it with the more established products it wishes to challenge. To find out, we headed to Portugal for the global launch of the #5, where we tested a European-specification car in top-of-the-range, high-performance Brabus form. Sportier styling and higher power output aside, it’s little different from other variants in the range, and gave us a good opportunity to try out all the #5 has to offer in every situation, from country roads and urban streets to gravel tracks and highways, before the model’s *********** release. How much does the Smart #5 cost? Smart is yet to confirm pricing for the #5 in Australia, but we’re expecting the mid-size electric SUV to start somewhere around the $70,000 mark, or just above the smaller #3. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert We’re also expecting a pretty generous standard specification, with 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic roof and parking sensors at the front and rear all expected to feature. That’s all going to sit alongside a massive 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster and dual-zone climate control, as well as wireless phone charging, synthetic leather upholstery and over-the-air software updates. What is the Smart #5 like on the inside? Smart’s new look is modern and clean, and that’s as true of the #5’s interior as it is of the exterior styling. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert So, you’ll find neat, rounded shapes and a relatively button-free dashboard, with a simple three-spoke steering wheel and most of the controls living on the touchscreen. And it’s a sizeable touchscreen, measuring 13 inches diagonally, complete with the latest software and a quick processor, as well as Smart’s latest-generation voice assistant, which takes the form of a lion avatar that prowls the menus. In truth, some of that stuff is a bit gimmicky, despite the cleverness of the technology, and the lion thing is a little distracting if we’re honest. But it isn’t as distracting as the passenger display that’s fitted to some of the more upmarket grades as standard in Europe, including the range-topping Brabus cars. It’s a nice idea, then, but it feels as though it needs a little refinement. In fairness, though, Smart says the technology isn’t entirely complete and will be updated ahead of the car’s market introduction later this year. And while we can find faults with the two main touchscreens, the responses are sharp, and even the touchscreen climate control system isn’t too difficult to adjust. On top of all that, we’ve nothing but praise for the head-up display and the digital instrument cluster. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert We’re impressed with the cabin quality, too, which is every bit as good as we’ve seen in the #1 and #3 models. Most of the materials, with only a couple of exceptions, are remarkably good, including the seat upholstery and most of the plastics. Combined with the airiness provided by the glass roof, it makes the #5’s cabin feel decidedly upmarket. But the overwhelming sense is one of space. The room inside the #5 is staggeringly good, with huge amounts of rear legroom and headroom, as well as plenty of space for those in the front. It’s only a five-seater, which might disappoint some, but those five people will have plenty of room. Even the middle seat in the second row is reasonably comfortable. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert Luggage capacity is pretty good, too, with a 630-litre boot in all versions of the #5. That means it’s considerably more spacious than the boot in a VW ID.4, and that space is joined by a ‘frunk’ under the bonnet. Exactly how big that frunk is will depend on which version you choose – the all-wheel drive cars get less space than the rear-wheel drive cars, but Smart reckons the standard rear-drive variant’s frunk is big enough for the kind of carry-on suitcase you see airline passengers using every day. We suspect it’ll probably be used for cable storage by most, but it’ll offer useful carrying capacity nonetheless. What’s under the bonnet? Full specifications have not yet been confirmed for the *********** market, but in Europe the #5 will be offered with a choice of two different batteries. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert There’s a base grade with a 74kWh unit that may or may not come to Australia, but we’re pretty confident the variants with the larger 100kWh battery will arrive on these shores. They’re offered with a choice of either single-motor rear-wheel drive, or twin-motor all-wheel drive powertrains, each with varying power outputs. The pinnacle of the lineup is the Brabus, with a generous 475kW from its two motors, but there will be a choice of less powerful options, too. In Europe, for example, the basic RWD version delivers 250kW, while there are also 267kW single-motor and 432kW dual-motor options below the Brabus. In terms of efficiency, the single-motor models offer the best range, with even the smallest battery providing more than 400km of range according to the WLTP economy test. And the dual-motor systems allow the front motor to be detached from the powertrain when it isn’t needed, reducing mechanical drag and thereby making it as efficient as possible. Even the Brabus will do more than 500km on a charge, with the 100kWh rear-motor option managing 589km between trips to the plug. How does the Smart #5 drive? Although it’s big and heavy – the Brabus version weighs roughly the same as a Bentley Flying Spur V8– the #5 is a remarkably comfortable thing. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert Smart has clearly designed the #5 with ride comfort in mind, and it absorbs bumps with surprising ease, even on massive 21-inch alloy wheels. Admittedly, such large rims and such a bulky kerb weight mean the odd sharper imperfection in the surface will make itself known, but it’s generally very good indeed. And while that kind of comfort would cause some cars to feel a bit soft and vague in the corners, the Smart handles pretty well. The steering’s weight is good, and even though it feels a little artificial, it’s easy to put the #5 exactly where you want it. And that’s useful when the car feels every bit as big as its dimensions suggest when you’re on the road. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert Unfortunately, there is a bit of lean in the corners, which in a mid-range model would be forgivable given the comfort credentials, but feels a little disappointing in the Brabus. We’re told the suspension settings are identical to other all-wheel drive #5 variants though, so it looks promising for the more popular mid-range grades. Clearly, those versions will not be as fast as the Brabus, which has a frankly obscene amount of power for something of this size. Yes, the car is heavy, but 475kW is unnecessary in something like this. Happily, the AWD powertrain is just about capable of dealing with that kind of power, and it enables stomach-churning standing-start acceleration that sees the car hit 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert Nobody needs to go that quickly, but even the base model, with 250kW and just the one electric motor, still gets to 100km/h in less than seven seconds. With the instant response of an electric powertrain, the car will be more than punchy enough no matter which version you choose. It’ll be quiet, too, with acoustically insulated glass that’s strikingly thick when you see its cross-section, meaning limited noise from the tyres or the wind. While it may not be quite as refined as some Mercedes-Benz luxury products, it’s definitely quiet enough to live up to its semi-premium billing. What do you get? Smart Australia is yet to confirm which versions of the #5 will come Down Under, but we know the Europe-bound cars get a generous specification and a wide range of different trim levels. Is the Smart #5 safe? The new #5 is yet to be ****** tested either in Australia or in Europe, but Smart’s record so far is good. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert Both the #1 and #3 received five-star ratings when they were put through their paces by ANCAP, and Smart has kitted the new car out with plenty of standard safety equipment. Better still, the company has included a system that allows drivers to choose their preferences for the driver assistance technology, which can be something of an irritant in certain situations. With Smart’s touchscreen, however, those preferences can be saved, allowing faster access to drivers’ preferred settings. Safety equipment includes: Autonomous emergency brakingLane-keeping assistanceFront and rear parking sensorsAutomated and remote parkingAdaptive cruise controlHow much does the Smart #5 cost to run? Every Smart currently sold in Australia comes with a five-year, 150,000km warranty, and we’re expecting the #5 to be no exception. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert As with all electric vehicle, low running costs are one of the #5’s big selling points, and there’s no doubt it’ll be considerably less expensive to operate than a similarly powerful petrol car. But alongside other EVs, it won’t prove quite so cheap. The battery is much larger than that of, say, an ID.4, so it’ll be more expensive to charge, and it won’t go any further on a charge. The difference won’t be huge, but other electric SUVs will – at least in theory – be slightly cheaper to run. CarExpert’s Take on the Smart #5 The #5 may not be anything like Smarts of old, but that’s no bad thing. Camera Icon2025 Smart #5: Quick drive Credit: CarExpert A competent, likeable and comfortable electric SUV, it’s a worthy rival to the likes of the Volkswagen ID.4 and Nissan Ariya, and it’s only a few ergonomic shortcomings away from beating them. Perhaps it isn’t the most efficient thing on the road, but its fast-charging capabilities and its pleasant road manners more than make up for that.
