  2. Nvidia GTX 970 memory mod boosts performance with 8GB VRAM upgrade Nvidia GTX 970 memory mod boosts performance with 8GB VRAM upgrade The Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 was a promising graphics card at launch offering performance similar to AMD’s Radeon R9 290X at a more affordable price range. Ten years later, the GPU has been given a new life thanks to Brazilian modder Paulo Gomes and his team who managed to add more VRAM, doubling the original from 4GB to 8GB. To increase the memory, the mod involved replacing the original 512MB, 7 Gbps GDDR5 memory modules with 1GB, 8 Gbps chips along with a resistor so that the GPU can recognize the higher density VRAM. By having access to 8GB of upgraded VRAM, the modder noted an improvement in Unigine Superposition benchmark showing nearly double the score. This one-of-a-kind Asus Strix-branded RX 970 was then handed to Youtuber Peperaio Hardware to evaluate whether increasing VRAM on an older GPU translates to any improvement in gaming. Testing was done using a mix of old and new games where titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V Enhanced, and Plague Tale Requiem didn’t show any signs of improvement. The results were compared to a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 with 4GB of memory. You may like In Cyberpunk 2077, the results varied depending on the graphics settings with an uplift of 5-15% in performance on the 8GB modded GPU. The two games that gained noticeable benefit from the increased VRAM were The Last of Us Part II Remastered with a 24% increase in frame rate and Horizon Forbidden West offering as much as 40% improvement. Back in February last year, the same team of modders managed to repair and upgrade a defective RTX 3070 by replacing its original 8GB of GDDR6 memory with 12GB. The team soldered in new 2GB memory chips and modified the GPU’s BIOS to correctly detect and utilize the additional VRAM. After the upgrade, the graphics card operated stably and passed all stress tests, showing that the mod was technically viable and functionally solid. The upgrade had led to a performance gain in games including Resident Evil 4 Remake, where the modified RTX 3070 delivered up to a 66% performance increase compared to the standard 8GB version. In The Last of Us Part I, performance saw a boost of around 25%, while Hogwarts Legacy ran 20% better with the extra VRAM. Both Nvidia and AMD have continued to claim that 8GB of VRAM is sufficient for most gamers. However, real-world mods like the ones mentioned above, suggest otherwise. Even as modern titles become increasingly demanding, Nvidia went on to launch the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti in 8GB variants, while AMD has announced that its new Radeon RX 9060 XT will also be coming with 8GB of VRAM. 3. Romania president sworn in, easing political crisis Romania president sworn in, easing political crisis Romania’s newly elected president Nicusor Dan has been officially sworn in, ushering in a tentative close to the worst political crisis to grip the European Union country in decades after the annulment of the previous election. But multiple challenges lie ahead. Dan, a 55-year-old mathematician and former mayor of the capital, Bucharest, decisively won the tense rerun in a runoff on May 18, beating his hard-right opponent George Simion, who later challenged the results at a top court, but was rejected last week. At the inauguration ceremony in a joint session of parliament on Monday, Dan signed the constitutional oath. In a speech afterward, he promised to tackle Romania’s economic woes and to be a president “open to the voice of society.” “The Romanian state needs a fundamental change … and I invite you to continue to be involved with all the social force you have proven, to put positive pressure on the institutions of the Romanian state so that they can reform,” he said. “I assure you that I will be a president who listens to the voice of society and who is a partner to that society.” The May election redo was held months after the Constitutional Court voided the previous election in which the far-right outsider Calin Georgescu led the first round, following allegations of electoral violations and Russian interference, which Moscow has denied. The court’s unprecedented decision last year plunged Romania, which is a member of NATO as well as the EU, into a ******* of unprecedented political turmoil. The presidential role carries a five-year term and significant decision-making powers in national security and foreign policy. In the presidential election rerun, Dan ran independently on an “Honest Romania” ticket, reaffirming Western ties, continued support for Ukraine, and fiscal reforms. Addressing the economic challenges that lie ahead, Dan said Monday that “put simply … the Romanian state is spending more than it can afford.” “It is in the national interest for Romania to send a message of stability to financial markets,” he said. “It is in the national interest to send a signal of openness and predictability to the investment environment.” Many observers viewed the election outcome as crucial to maintaining Romania’s place within Western alliances, especially as the war continues in neighbouring Ukraine. At the same time, the continent scrambles to arm itself as the United States’ commitment to European partners has waned under US President Donald Trump. As Dan begins his mandate, he faces the immediate challenge of nominating a prime minister who can garner the support necessary to form a government, a tall order in a country where a rejection of the political class led to the emergence of figures like Georgescu and Simion. Dan will also have to contend with a string of other crises, such as a large budget deficit, deep societal divisions exposed by the chaotic election cycle, and the war that drags on next door. 4. Quakers accused of ‘destroying’ reputation with trans-inclusive lavatories Quakers accused of ‘destroying’ reputation with trans-inclusive lavatories Quakers have been accused of “destroying” their reputation as pioneers on women’s rights by refusing to provide separate toilets for females. Quakers in Britain said its toilets would remain “trans inclusive” despite the ruling by the Supreme Court that the word “sex” in the Equality Act refers to biological sex and not gender identity. It said it was not desirable to monitor who uses its facilities, adding: “We cannot guarantee any shared space as exclusive for one group of people.” Quakers have gained a reputation for their progressive attitude towards women, having allowed them to preach as early as the 17th century. But Helen Joyce, the director of advocacy at Sex Matters, a women’s rights group, said they appeared to have abandoned that legacy by adopting “textbook trans activism”. “Early Quakers were famously supportive of women’s rights – they would surely be shocked and ashamed if they could see the destruction of that proud legacy,” she said. ‘Contested and subject to legal challenge’ Last month’s Supreme Court ruled that transgender women are not legally women, and clarified that the word “sex” in the Equality Act means biological sex and not gender identity. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) then put out interim guidance to organisations, underlining that in places such as hospitals, shops and restaurants, “trans women (biological men) should not be permitted to use the women’s facilities”. A growing number of public bodies have changed their guidance in light of the judgment. The Football Association has said trans women could be banned from women’s sport. But other organisations, including the Houses of Parliament, are awaiting final guidance from the EHRC. The statement from Quakers in Britain dismissed the EHRC’s interim guidance, which it said “goes beyond the scope and actual statements” in the Supreme Court ruling. Paul Parker, the recording clerk, said: “This is already contested and subject to legal challenge.” He said the faith group would “welcome and affirm trans and non-binary people in Quaker spaces”, adding: “We must respect the dignity of each person to live with integrity, informed by the truth of their lived experience”. ‘This is what love requires of us’ Like Stonewall, Mr Parker said the Supreme Court judgement did not have “the force of law”. “Whilst the EHRC has recently issued guidance, this is currently only interim guidance. It is non-statutory and therefore does not have the force of law,” the document states. “We see the Equality Act itself as our primary legal guide when making decisions. “It is not possible or desirable to monitor who uses our facilities and therefore cannot guarantee any shared space as exclusive for one group of people. We will not label something as a single-sex space if we cannot truthfully guarantee that it will be single-sex.” The minutes of the meeting read: “The rights and inclusion of people belonging to our communities and using our buildings are not, and should not be, just about toilets. We will continue to work to make our corner of the commonwealth of heaven on Earth a more welcoming and accessible place. This is what love requires of us.” Quakers in Britain also pointed out that at its main building, French House in London, all public facilities were “trans inclusive”. A spokesman said: “Toilets labelled with a ‘female’ sign are intended for cis women, trans women, and non-binary and intersex people for whom this toilet is best aligned with their lived experience. “Toilets labelled with a ‘male’ sign are intended for cis men, trans men, and non-binary and intersex people for whom this toilet is best aligned with their lived experience.” ‘Upside-down vision of equality’ Ms Joyce said: “British Quakers’ announcement that it will continue to allow trans-identifying men to use female facilities is textbook trans activism. It is also in breach of the law. The organisation would be wise to consult legal expertise without delay. “It is not ‘inclusive’ to seek a way around labelling toilets and changing rooms as male and female in order to avoid having to monitor whether people comply with common-sense rules that are there to protect everyone. It places the desires of those who seek to transgress boundaries over the needs of the most vulnerable. “This is an upside-down vision of equality, integrity and truth. By defying the ***’s highest court and removing protections for women and girls, Quakers are courting legal risk and demonstrating a lack of care and responsibility, in the pursuit of a fashionable dogma.” A spokesman for Quakers in Britain said: “Our facilities are legally compliant. Quakers in Britain welcome and affirm trans and non-binary people in all Quaker spaces. Our values of equality and integrity guide every decision we make. “No trans, non-binary, or intersex Quaker, staff member, or service user will be asked to disclose or prove aspects of their identity in ways that are not asked of cisgender people. We do not seek to monitor who uses our facilities, nor do we believe it is possible or desirable to do so. “We have self-contained facilities, which function as single sex spaces, available for all our building users. We are committed to taking robust and proactive steps to ensure that all our spaces remain safe, inclusive, and free from harassment or inappropriate behaviour.” Source link #Quakers #accused #destroying #reputation #transinclusive #lavatories Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  6. After a Brutal Q4 Miss, Trade Desk’s Kokai Platform Fuels Stunning Rebound After a Brutal Q4 Miss, Trade Desk’s Kokai Platform Fuels Stunning Rebound After posting what was likely its worst earnings report ever in Q4 2024, Trade Desk (NASDAQ:) roared back with a vengeance in Q1 2025. The communication services company’s final report for 2024 saw it miss internal expectations on revenue for the first time in 33 quarters. Overall, it was the first time Trade Desk missed these expectations for its entire life as a public company. Being an occurrence markets had never seen, Trade Desk’s shares plummeted 33% in one day after the report. However, the company did not turn this disappointment into a pattern in Q1. Shares popped nearly 19% after the company’s latest release on May 8. As of the May 22 close, Trade Desk has recovered 64% since the 52-week low the stock eventually hit in early April. So, what was so great about Trade Desk’s most recent quarter, and can the recovery in this stock continue? The stock is still trading at nearly half of its all-time high reached in November 2024, indicating that significant further upside could be in play. TTD: Business Breakdown and Q4 Struggles For those who may be unfamiliar, Trade Desk is an advertising technology (AdTech) company. Essentially, its software helps advertisers manage their marketing campaigns. It uses AI to match these advertisers with the optimal place to display their ads, helping these advertisers maximize the return on their ad spending. It does this by analyzing massive amounts of data to target potential customers who are most likely to buy a company’s product. Within the advertising ecosystem, Trade Desk largely focuses on connected TV (CTV), also known as streaming. However, the company’s platform is omnichannel. This lets advertisers connect with potential customers through different media types. The company shows its presence in these areas by partnering with both Netflix (NASDAQ:) and Spotify Technology (NYSE:). The main problem for Trade Desk in Q4 came from the company’s rollout of its next-generation ad tech platform, Kokai. In Q4, the company focused on fixing Kokai’s structural issues. This slowed down the platform’s adoption during the quarter. This is what ultimately caused the company to miss its forecasts. However, the opposite was the case in Q1. Trade Desk’s Kokai Flips the Script In Q1, Trade Desk crushed estimates both on the top and bottom line. The company’s revenue growth came in at 25%, greatly exceeding the just 17% growth Wall Street forecasted. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) also grew by 27%, while Wall Street was looking for it to drop by almost 4%. The increase of 82 basis points to 34% in Trade Desk’s adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin aided this. Wall Street predicted the figure would fall to less than 26%. The company’s full-year revenue and EBITDA guidance also came in solidly ahead of expectations. Much of this success was due to an accelerated adoption of Kokai in Q1. The company noted that about two-thirds of its customers had transitioned to Kokai, which was “ahead of schedule.” As it said in Q4, Trade Desk expects all its customers to transition to Kokai by the end of 2025. Trade Desk also shared very important metrics on how Kokai is driving improved client results. Compared to its previous platform, Solimar, the cost of clients acquiring a new customer dropped by 20%. Additionally, the cost to reach a unique person with an ad dropped by over 42%. Kokai also used 30% more data points when evaluating how well an ad might perform. Overall, all of these metrics show how Kokai is helping maximize return on ad spending, making clients much more likely to use it. Customer satisfaction is ultimately demonstrated by the fact that the company’s retention rate remained above 95%, as it has for 11 straight years. TTD Can Benefit Big Long Term as CTV Spending Looks to Overtake Traditional Overall, the successful outcomes that Trade Desk is driving for marketers are very hard to deny. Additionally, the shift in ad spend away from traditional TV to CTV still has a long way to go. eMarketer finds that just $29 billion in ad spending went to CTV in 2024, versus nearly $60 billion for traditional TV. That is less than a 33% share for CTV. They expect this gap to continue narrowing. This is a big long-term tailwind that Trade Desk can benefit greatly from. Due to these factors, Trade Desk looks poised to continue down the road of long-term success. 7. ‘I’m going to pick the best players’: Mal Meninga’s Ashes message to Kalyn Ponga after last year’s Kangaroos snub ‘I’m going to pick the best players’: Mal Meninga’s Ashes message to Kalyn Ponga after last year’s Kangaroos snub Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga says Kalyn Ponga’s decision to make himself unavailable for the national side in 2024 won’t rule him out of contention for the Ashes squad later this year. Meninga has one eye on the massive series that returns after a lengthy hiatus, but his main focus for now is on State of Origin, which kicks off in Brisbane on Wednesday night. Ponga is back in the No.1 jersey where he’s hoping to fire after a quiet couple of months for the Knights, with the former Dally M Medal winner in the mix to earn a Kangaroos call-up if he can dominate the series. The 27-year-old caused a stir last year when he turned down a potential Kangaroos debut so he could focus on the Knights, only to change his mind following public backlash. Meninga didn’t pick Ponga in the squad for the Pacific Championships, with Dylan Edwards doing a wonderful job as Australia beat Tonga in the final. And while last year’s situation was far from ideal, Meninga won’t let it cloud his judgment if Ponga excels in Origin and puts his hand up to represent Australia amid speculation he could one day play for New Zealand. “One of the reasons he didn’t want to play last year for the Kangaroos was because of fatigue,” the Immortal said. “We had those conversations last year, so that’s not going to impinge on him playing for Australia. “If he comes out and kills it for Queensland … I’m going to pick the best players (at the end of the year) to represent their country. “Because of conversations we had in the past, that’s not going to reflect in the future.” Camera IconMal Meninga has teamed up with DrinkWise to deliver an important message. DrinkWise Credit: Supplied Meninga is big on respect for the jersey, and he’s also promoting respect for everyone and encouraging footy fans to drink in moderation during the Origin *******. The rugby league legend has teamed up with DrinkWise to encourage fans to celebrate the action responsibly at the ground, the pub or at home with friends and family. “It’s a great initiative to use Origin and rugby league as a vehicle to talk about social change around moderation or drinking responsibly,” he said. “Respect for each other when you go to a game or you’re at home is really important. For me, respect is part of our behaviours and standards for the Kangaroos, so that marries up really well for me. “Players in the modern age do drink responsibly, or some don’t drink at all because they understand the responsibility to their community, club and mates. “Drinking in moderation is a smart move for their careers, and as I said before, respect is pretty prevalent in our game.” Meninga has seen players like Cameron Munster give up alcohol and the positive impact that’s had on and off the field, with the former Maroons coach backing the Queensland star’s halves partner to fire on Wednesday night. Daly Cherry-Evans hasn’t been at his brilliant best as the world waits for him to sign with the Roosters, but Meninga is tipping him to put that behind him when he pulls on the maroon jersey. Camera IconDaly Cherry-Evans has been in all the headlines this year after telling Manly he’s leaving at the end of the season. Lachie Millard Credit: News Corp Australia “He’s our leader, and that’s what leaders do – they’ve got to lead from the front,” he said. “‘Chez’ won’t be worried by what’s going on because he’s got so much experience. All this chatter off the field isn’t going to worry him or the team. “They might have had a quick chat about it at the start of camp, but I reckon they’ve moved on past all that. “Whatever Daly does for next year isn’t going to have an impact on his or Queensland’s performance.” Meninga didn’t pick Cherry-Evans in the *********** side last year, with Mitch Moses and Tom Dearden combining brilliantly. The way Cherry-Evans handled his demotion impressed Meninga, who has been pleased to see the veteran playmaker work so enthusiastically with Dearden even though he took his place in the team. “He cares about the players around him,” Meninga said. “Even if there’s another half who he’s in competition with, he’s always there to help out. He’s got that team mindset, which you need.” Source link #pick #players #Mal #Meningas #Ashes #message #Kalyn #Ponga #years #Kangaroos #snub Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  8. A busy doctor says he lost almost half his body **** in 3 months with small changes to his routine A busy doctor says he lost almost half his body **** in 3 months with small changes to his routine A 35-year-old man says he burned **** and built muscle without more hours in the gym or a strict diet. He changed his workouts to focus on full-body exercise and time-saving supersets to maximize muscle. To lose ****, he switched to smaller portions and set a protein goal while leaving room for treats. A 35-year-old man says he transformed his body in a few months by switching to full-body workouts and smaller portion sizes with a protein goal. Dr. Simon Doyle, a GP from London, had a consistent fitness routine until a shoulder injury left him out of the gym for more than a year, during which he started to feel out of shape and struggled to bounce back. “It happens gradually. You don’t notice until you think ‘I don’t look like myself,'” Doyle told Business Insider. Doyle wanted to build strength and muscle while also burning body **** for a leaner, more defined physique. In February, he started working with Adam Enaz, a personal trainer who specializes in helping men in their 30s and 40s build muscle and lose ****. Enaz helped Doyle structure his workouts and diet over three months without adding more hours in the gym or strict food rules. “I was replicating my usual routine but getting more out of it,” Doyle said. With a few simple changes, he said, he was able to cut his body **** from an estimated 19% to 10% (measured via a smart scale). Full-body workouts can save time Doyle said he already had a habit of hitting the gym for about an hour Monday through Friday before work, but his workout split was wasting time on individual muscle groups. Instead, he started focusing on more efficient full-body workout sessions. Doyle also incorporated a technique called supersets — performing two exercises back-to-back without full rest, such as dips and chin-ups or chest presses and rows. “It’s important for me to be able to get the workout done in 50 minutes,” he said, given that he has limited time for the gym before his busy workday. “I’m using my rest time to work different muscle groups.” Increasing weight is key for muscle gains Doyle said tracking his workouts boosted his progress by adding more weight to his lifts. His typical session involved three sets per exercise and no more than 12 reps per set. If he hit all 12 reps, he would increase the weight to make it more challenging. This technique of progressive overload, gradually putting more stress on your muscles, is a well-established fitness technique. That’s what prompts muscles to build back ******* and stronger. In the past, Doyle said he would get stuck at a certain weight. Recently, Enaz helped him break through a plateau by increasing the weight on the first set, even if he couldn’t lift heavier for all three, until he was able to adapt, Doyle said. “You really track that to make sure you’re not plateauing,” he said. Smaller portions and a protein goal to burn **** Doyle said that before working with Enaz, he was working hard in the gym but struggled to change his physique. Now he believes that’s because he hadn’t paid much attention to his diet. “I always focused so much on the workouts, and they’re essential but completely pointless without nutrition,” Doyle said. “What was missing was that I was getting the portions all wrong.” Burning **** and building muscle come down to how many calories and how much protein you eat. Despite making healthy food choices and meal prepping consistently, he wasn’t tracking how much he ate. Doyle said he started measuring his food to make sure he was in a calorie deficit, consuming fewer calories than he was burning. He also set a goal to get 138 grams of protein daily, about 0.9 grams per pound of body weight, right around what researchers recommend for optimal weight loss and muscle gain. A typical day of eating for Doyle included: Breakfast: overnight oats, banana, peanut butter, and kefir Lunch: mixed veggies and chicken with marinade Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt Dinner: Chicken fajita bowls with brown rice Doyle said the consistent routine allows him to indulge on occasion while staying on track overall. “I’m not the most adventurous for midweek meals, but I do treat myself on the weekends,” he said. “I just think it through a little more rather than deny myself.” Read the original article on Business Insider Source link #busy #doctor #lost #body #**** #months #small #routine Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  9. SK hynix’s speedy 1TB Tube flash drive is down to $59, an all-time low SK hynix’s speedy 1TB Tube flash drive is down to $59, an all-time low Popping up on our list of the best flash drives, the SK hynix Tube T31 is one of the fastest USB-A flash drives that we’ve ever tested and a great choice for people looking for a convenient storage solution that is compact and plugs right into any USB Type-A port while delivering great performance. It’s technically fast enough to be called an external SSD with the performance we noted in our testing, but the Tube T31 keeps its USB flash drive form factor. Appearing on Amazon for its lowest-ever price, SK hynix’s Tube T31 1TB flash drive is discounted to just $59. Previously, the Tube T31 had an MSRP of $79, so this is a nice little savings and a pretty decent price for 1TB of storage. Its ultra-compatible USB Type-A connector makes it easy to use with a host of everyday computing devices and is the perfect backup tool for anyone who wants to secure their data or transfer files from one source to another with ease. We had the chance to review the SK hynix Tube T31 1TB and gave it an Editor’s Choice award for its performance. Our tester noted that this flash drive stick was a little bulky and could possibly block neighboring USB ports on some devices, but the build and form of the drive were sturdy and well-constructed. The Tube T31 did however show off class-leading performance compared to its peers and had some of the fastest transfer speeds available for a USB-A device. The SK hynix’s Tube T31 1TB uses its impressive performance to blur the lines between external SSDs and flash drives in terms of both speed and capacity. The Tube T31 uses a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connector for easy connection to any device with a USB-A port and makes use of the full 10Gbps data bandwidth available to give speeds of up to 1,000MB/s when transferring your data. 13. French presidential couple ‘playfight’ on plane French presidential couple ‘playfight’ on plane They were just playfighting. That was French President Emmanuel Macron ‘s explanation on Monday for video images that appeared to show his wife, Brigitte, pushing her husband away with both hands on his face before they disembarked from their plane to start a tour of Southeast Asia this weekend. The moment quickly made headlines in France, with media trying to decipher the interaction that cameras spotted through the just-opened door of the plane. The headline of a story on the website of the daily Le Parisien newspaper asked: “Slap or ‘squabble’? The images of Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron disembarking in Vietnam trigger a lot of comment.” Macron later told reporters that the couple — married since 2007 after meeting at the high school where he was a student and she was a teacher — were simply joking around. “We are squabbling and, rather, joking with my wife,” he said, adding that the incident was being overblown into “a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe.” In video taken by The Associated Press as the Macrons arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Sunday, a uniformed man can be seen pulling open the plane door and revealing the president standing inside, dressed in a suit and talking to someone who wasn’t visible. Two arms – in red sleeves – reached out and pushed Macron away, with one hand covering his mouth and part of his nose while the other was on his jaw. The French leader recoiled, turning his head away. Then, apparently realising that he was on camera, he broke into a smile and gave a little wave. In subsequent images, Macron and his wife, wearing a red jacket, appeared at the top of the stairs. He offered an arm but she didn’t take it. They walked down the carpeted stairs side by side. The French leader argued that the images and reaction to them offered a cautionary tale about disinformation in the social media age. He said that in recent weeks, other videos had been used to circulate made-up stories that he’d taken ******** with the leaders of Britain and Germany – when, in fact, he said he’d just been picking up a tissue – and that he’d had a muscular encounter with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, when they’d been shaking and holding hands. “Everyone needs to calm down,” he said. His office also downplayed the interaction. “It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around. It’s a moment of complicity. It was all that was needed to give ammunition to the conspiracy theorists,” his office said. Brigitte Macron was Brigitte Auzière, a married mother of three children, when they met at his high school. A teacher, she supervised the drama club where Emmanuel Macron, a literature lover, was a member. He moved to Paris for his last year of high school, but promised to marry Brigitte. She later moved to the French capital to join him and divorced before they finally married. The unit employs a hybrid construction with both aluminum and steel elements, primarily finished in a sophisticated satin ****** with subtle golden accents. At 190 mm in length, it significantly exceeds the standard ATX dimension. While this extended length should not pose issues for most modern enthusiast cases, potential buyers should verify their case dimensions before purchase. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The fan cover utilizes parallel aluminum bars, creating a distinctive vertical wave pattern that adds visual depth to the design. Perhaps most notably, the left side of the unit incorporates a high-resolution RGB panel covering approximately half of its surface area. By default, this displays a golden triangular pattern and the series logo, but users can customize various effects and colors through MSI’s software. Image 1 of 3 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The front panel houses a C20 AC power inlet and on/off switch, complemented by a dedicated button to toggle the hybrid fan mode on or off. The specification sticker is positioned on the top side, while the rear panel contains the modular cable connectors surrounded by a golden legend and the company logo subtly etched in the corner. A USB-C port allows connection to an internal motherboard header for RGB customization and performance monitoring. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Internal Design The MSI MEG AI1600T employs a Zeta Group (ZIC) ZFB132512H 135mm fan with a dual-ball bearing engine. This fan choice prioritizes reliability and thermal resilience over absolute silence, as dual ball bearing fans are renowned for their durability under high temperatures but tend to produce more noise at higher speeds. However, the fan has a relatively conservative maximum speed of approximately 1800 RPM, and with the unit’s hybrid/zero-RPM capability, it frequently operates in complete silence during typical usage scenarios. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The PSU is manufactured by Channel-Well Technology (CWT), a reputable OEM with extensive experience producing high-end power supplies for numerous brands. CWT has employed a semi-digital platform for this unit, reflecting a design approach increasingly common in premium power supplies. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The input filtering stage is somewhat modest for a unit of this power rating, consisting of four Y capacitors, two X capacitors, and two filtering inductors. The rectification stage employs an interesting hybrid approach, utilizing both a traditional bridge rectifier mounted on a basic metallic heatsink and four digitally controlled MOSFETs on a larger ****** heatsink. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The APFC circuitry incorporates two Infineon 65R050M2H MOSFETs and two diodes, supported by an enhancement mode MOSFET for improved low-load performance. These components occupy their own substantial heatsink that appears initially connected to the rectification MOSFETs heatsink but is actually separate. Two encased inductors and two massive 770μF capacitors from Nippon Chemi-**** complete the APFC stage. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The primary inversion stage employs four Alpha & Omega 29S50 transistors mounted on a sizable ****** heatsink, implementing a full-bridge LLC topology. These high-efficiency MOSFETs are frequently used in top-tier PSU designs. Twelve MOSFETs generate the primary 12V line on the main PCB’s top surface, immediately following the transformers, with thin silvery heatsinks providing thermal support. The 3.3V and 5V lines are generated by DC-to-DC circuits situated on a large vertical daughterboard. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The secondary side capacitors feature a mix of Nippon Chemi-**** and Rubycon products. All capacitors are sourced from highly prestigious Japanese manufacturers – a choice entirely consistent with the product’s flagship status and premium positioning. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Cold Test Results Cold Test Results (25°C Ambient) For testing the power supplies, we use high precision electronic loads with a maximum power draw of 2700 Watts, a Rigol DS5042M 40 MHz oscilloscope, an Extech 380803 power analyzer, two high precision UNI-T UT-325 digital thermometers, an Extech HD600 SPL meter, a self-designed hotbox, and various other bits and parts. Image 1 of 5 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) During cold testing, the MSI MEG AI1600T demonstrates outstanding efficiency that meets or exceeds the requirements for 80Plus Titanium certification across global certification bodies including CLEAResult, Cybenetics, and PPLP.INFO. The unit achieves an impressive average nominal load efficiency of 92.7% at 115 VAC and 94.0% at 230 VAC. It is worth noting that CLEAResult’s 80Plus Titanium certification is for 115 VAC input, as the 230 VAC input requires a challenging half-load efficiency of 96%, a benchmark extremely difficult to attain. Efficiency peaks at 50% load but remains remarkably stable across the entire nominal load range (10-100%). Even at very low loads, the unit maintains excellent efficiency levels. The hybrid cooling system keeps the fan inactive until the load exceeds 900 watts, allowing for completely silent operation under moderate power conditions. When activated, the fan maintains extremely low speeds regardless of load, becoming audible only at maximum capacity. The thermal performance during cold testing is impressive, with internal temperatures remaining well-controlled despite the unit’s substantial power output. Hot Test Results Hot Test Results (~45°C Ambient) When tested with elevated ambient temperatures, the MSI MEG AI1600T demonstrates good resilience but the efficiency decrease compared to cold conditions is easily measurable. The unit achieves an average nominal load efficiency of 91.6% at 115 VAC and 92.9% at 230 VAC, reflecting a reduction from cold testing results greater than 1%. Slightly greater efficiency degradation occurs at heavy loads, which could indicate mild thermal stress. Image 1 of 5 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Under high ambient temperatures, the fan activates at a significantly lower threshold of approximately 600 watts, accelerating more rapidly than in cold testing conditions. However, it still never reaches maximum speed, even at 100% load. Despite the increased cooling demands, internal temperatures remain relatively low for a unit of this power class, signifying a thermal design that prioritizes quiet operation over absolute thermal performance. PSU Quality and Bottom Line Power Supply Quality The MSI MEG AI1600T offers solid electrical performance. The 12V rail regulation at 0.6% is reasonably tight given the unit’s massive power output, but the 5V and 3.3V rails show more variance at 1.4% and 1.2% respectively. These secondary rail numbers, while acceptable, fall short of what we would expect in this ultra-premium price bracket, where competitors casually deliver sub-1% regulation across all rails. Ripple suppression is good but unexceptional for a flagship product, with maximum levels reaching 44 mV on the 12V rail, 22 mV on the 5V rail, and 28 mV on the 3.3V rail. While these values comfortably meet ATX specifications, they do not particularly stand out in the high-end segment where we have seen competing units maintain ripple below 30 mV on the primary 12V rail even at full load. For a power supply commanding such a premium price, the electrical performance is satisfactory rather than extraordinary. During our thorough assessment, we evaluate the essential protection features of every power supply unit we review, including Over Current Protection (OCP), Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Power Protection (OPP), and Short Circuit Protection (SCP). Protection features function effectively, with Over Current Protection (OCP) thresholds set at 120% for the 12V rail and significantly higher at 140% and 135% for the 3.3V and 5V rails respectively. The Over Power Protection (OPP) engages at 125% during hot testing, providing an appropriate safety margin while allowing for reasonable power headroom. While this “halo product” certainly showcases MSI’s engineering ambitions, the stratospheric price point raises legitimate questions about value even within the premium segment. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The external design undeniably impresses, combining premium materials with distinctive visual elements that set it apart from typical power supplies. The high-resolution RGB display panel covering half of one side is certainly unique in the PSU space, offering customization options through MSI’s software ecosystem. The individually sleeved cables with pre-installed combs reflect attention to detail, offering both functional benefits for cable management and aesthetic appeal. MSI’s thoughtful safety features, like the half-yellow PCIe connectors that visually confirm proper connection, demonstrate practical innovation alongside the digital interface that enables monitoring and fan control customization. Finally, the digital interface with the motherboard that allows for monitoring and some basic control is unique to top-tier PSU products. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) In efficiency metrics, the MEG AI1600T delivers as promised, achieving Titanium certification across multiple global standards including CLEAResult, Cybenetics, and PPLP.INFO. Load efficiency remains admirably stable throughout its operating range and degrades only minimally under high-temperature conditions, speaking to the fundamental engineering competence of the design. However, when examining electrical performance, the picture becomes more nuanced. While voltage regulation on the crucial 12V rail is commendable at 0.6%, the secondary rails show less impressive figures at 1.4% and 1.2% for 5V and 3.3V respectively. Similarly, ripple suppression, while meeting specifications with headroom to spare, does not break new ground for a unit positioned at the absolute premium tier of the market. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Thermally, the unit performs well but not exceptionally, maintaining reasonable internal temperatures even at high outputs. The cooling system is clearly tilted towards low noise operation, with the fan remaining inactive until loads exceed 900W under normal conditions (though this threshold drops significantly to around 600W in elevated ambient temperatures). This approach prioritizes silence during typical usage scenarios while ensuring adequate cooling when the unit is pushed harder, but temperatures can get high. The default cooling profile can be adjusted by users via the unit’s digital interface. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The real elephant in the room is the MEG AI1600T’s eye-watering $690 retail price, a figure that is difficult to justify, no matter how good the performance is. This represents a substantial premium even compared to other Titanium-rated 1600W units from respected manufacturers, many of which offer comparable or superior electrical characteristics at significantly lower price points. What MSI provides for this premium seems to primarily be aesthetic distinction and integration with their software ecosystem, which may appeal to builders committed to MSI-centric systems but offers questionable value for most others. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) In conclusion, the MSI MEG AI1600T PCIE5 is a technically competent power supply with distinctive aesthetics and integration features, wrapped in a package that commands an extraordinary price premium. For the vanishingly small segment of users who simultaneously require 1600W of power, are invested in the MSI ecosystem, and prioritize the unit’s unique visual elements, it represents a functional – if financially extravagant – choice. 15. ‘Happy Memorial Day to all, including the *****’ ‘Happy Memorial Day to all, including the *****’ President Donald Trump railed against his predecessor Joe Biden, branded the Demcorats “*****” and federal judges “monsters” in a testy Memorial Day message. In an all-caps TruthSocial tirade on Monday morning, the president wished a “Happy Memorial Day to all” before his message went awry and devolved into an all-out attack against his political opponents. “Including the ***** that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds, who allowed 21,000,000 million people to illegally enter our country, many of them being criminals and the mentally insane, through an open border that only an incompetent president would approve,” he wrote. Trump also addressed his clash with the courts and lambasted federal judges who have moved to block his administration’s policies, claiming they are protecting “murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members, and released prisoners from all over the world.” Deriding the judiciary as “monsters,” Trump said that he remains hopeful that the U.S. Supreme Court and other “good and compassionate” judges will step in to save America. President Donald Trump attends the commencement ceremony at West Point Military Academy in West Point, New York, on Saturday (REUTERS) “But fear not, we have made great progress over the last 4 months, and America will soon be safe and great again! Again, happy Memorial Day, and god bless America!” he concluded the message, which was deleted twice with spelling and spacing errors before it was finally reuploaded. Trump’s first message of the day, however, saw him reshare a post from right-wing political commentator Rogan O’Handley, who argued that the Democrats should be charged with treason, peddling the baseless claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. In another TruthSocial post, Trump posted, “Happy Memorial Day!” The spate of messages comes ahead of Trump’s expected visit to Arlington National Cemetery later Monday, to honor fallen U.S. soldiers. In a proclamation issued Saturday, the president also requested that government officials and citizens fly American flags at half staff on Monday. Their loved ones selflessly gave everything to protect our sovereignty. They have our unwavering support, deepest gratitude, and highest respect,” he said in the proclamation released by the White House. Memorial Day weekend saw a series of protests against the Trump administration from grassroots organizations in parts of Mississippi and New York. “We are coming together to address and challenge the reckless actions of the current administration, actions that we believe have far-reaching consequences for our communities and our nation,” organizers in Mississippi said in a statement last week. The president gave a rambling, politically charged address at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Saturday. The Trump administration’s efforts to slash the federal workforce are also set to impact the Department of Veterans Affairs, which plans to cut 83,000 jobs—17 percent of its workforce—by August. 16. Elden Ring Nightreign Climbs Steam’s Top Paid Charts Elden Ring Nightreign Climbs Steam’s Top Paid Charts Elden Ring: Nightreign is just days away from launch, and Bandai Namco Entertainment has been ramping up marketing with character reveals, streamer campaigns, and in-depth previews of what awaits players later this month. Despite some apprehension around its multiplayer focus, Elden Ring: Nightreign has already climbed Steam’s top sellers list. Elden Ring Nightreign Tops Steam Charts Elden Ring: Nightreign has been available to pre-order on all platforms for some time now, but with the release date just a few days away, it has climbed to the top of the Steam charts ahead of launch, sitting alongside Counter-Strike 2 and claiming the top spot among paid titles by overtaking FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time. Screenshot by Prima Games Steam makes up a sizable portion of FromSoftware’s audience, so it’s no surprise that their next major title is performing well even before its release. FromSoftware has been incorporating multiplayer elements into its games for years, with invasions, summons, and PvP arenas being staples in their Soulslike titles and even present in the Armored Core series. The desire to create a full multiplayer experience was clear, and Elden Ring: Nightreign marks their major PvE title with a roguelike core. Fans accustomed to the studio’s single-player offerings have expressed some hesitation, but the lower $40 price tag and trust in the studio have put Nightreign in a relatively comfortable position. FromSoftware has also confirmed that Nightreign is not a live-service title and will not include microtransactions. While DLC content is planned, players shouldn’t expect a battle pass or paid cosmetics. Image via Bandai Namco Entertainment As someone who enjoys the multiplayer aspects of FromSoftware’s games, I’m a bit concerned about the state of the servers at launch. While invasions and co-op can be a lot of fun, stability has often been an issue in practice. Since Nightreign is built around co-op, I hope extra care has been taken to ensure everything runs smoothly when it launches on May 30, 2025, across all platforms. Unfortunately, Elden Ring: Nightreign does not support crossplay between different platforms, aside from within the same console family. This means players won’t be able to enjoy the game with friends on other systems, which is a shame and something I hope they address in a future update. Overall, I won’t be surprised if Elden Ring: Nightreign sells well at launch. The lower price and confidence in FromSoftware’s quality will likely ease any hesitation. Additionally, the promise of giving players everything at launch is something we rarely see in multiplayer titles under the current live-service model. 18. Russia denies involvement in fires at homes linked to Keir Starmer Russia denies involvement in fires at homes linked to Keir Starmer The Kremlin has rejected claims of potential Russian involvement in alleged arson attacks at properties connected to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, calling them “ludicrous”. It comes after media reports that *** security officials are investigating a potential link following three incidents earlier this month. In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday: “London tends to suspect Russia of [involvement in] all the bad things happening in Great Britain. “As a rule, all these suspicions are groundless and not backed up with any evidence.” Three men, two Ukrainian nationals and a Romanian man, have been charged as part of a police investigation into the attacks. Several *** newspapers have claimed MI5 is investigating the possibility the attacks were ordered by the Kremlin, citing unnamed Whitehall officials. Last week, Ukrainian national Petro Pochynok, 34, from north London, was charged by the Metropolitan Police with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. Two other men, Roman Lavrynovych, 21, and Stanislav Carpiuc, 26, have also been charged in connection with the fires. The three men, who have already appeared in court for initial hearings, have been remanded in custody until the next scheduled hearing at the Old Bailey in London on 6 June. On 8 May, a car the prime minister had sold to a neighbour caught fire on the Kentish Town street where he lived before moving to Downing Street. Three days later, firefighters dealt with a small fire at the front door of an Islington house, where Sir Keir lived during the 1990s and which has since been converted into flats. On 12 May, the fire brigade and police were called to a fire at the prime minister’s private home on the same street as where the car fire took place. Sir Keir previously described the incidents as “an attack on all of us, on democracy and the values that we stand for”. 23. Before Memorial Day: For 50+ Years, ‘Decoration Day’ Was Observed to Honor and Remember Civil War Dead Before Memorial Day: For 50+ Years, ‘Decoration Day’ Was Observed to Honor and Remember Civil War Dead Before it became the national holiday we now know as Memorial Day, this sacred day was observed across the country as Decoration Day – a day celebrated for more than five decades to honor both the Union and Confederate dead from the Civil War. In 1868, Major Gen. John A. Logan, a former Union Army corps commander, and now the commander of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), a fraternal organization of Union veterans, issued a proclamation for a celebration to be held to honor the soldiers who died “in defense of their country during the late rebellion.” On the first national celebration of Decoration Day observed on May 30, 1868, former Union major general and now Ohio Republican Congressman James A. Garfield spoke at Arlington National Cemetery to an audience of more than 5,000. His was the first of annual addresses that explained why Decoration Day should be commemorated. After the ceremony, children from the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphan Home and members of the GAR made their way through the cemetery, placing flowers on both Union and Confederate graves. Across the nation, many cities and towns also joined in for the national day of observance on May 30 holding their own events, including a parade where citizens would watch the aging veterans who once wore the blue and the gray proudly march by. Editors Note: The Decoration Day postcards throughout this article show the patriotism that was seen in cities and towns throughout the country in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. All of the images courtesy of the author’s collection. However, this Decoration Day observance was not the first. Local communities had decorated the graves of their war dead with flowers before and during the war. In fact, several cities claim to be the birthplace of what we now call Memorial Day. These include Columbus, Mississippi; Macon, Georgia; Richmond, Virginia; Boalsburg, Pennsylvania; and Carbondale, Illinois. But of course, there can be only one. Richard Gardiner, an associate professor at Columbus State University in Georgia, revealed in a book he co-authored, The Genesis of the Memorial Day Holiday, that the real honor of observing the first organized Decoration Day goes to Columbus, Georgia. In January of 1866, the Ladies’ Memorial Association in Columbus, passed a motion designating a day to throw flowers on the graves of soldiers buried at the local cemetery. Mary Ann Williams, the group’s secretary, wrote a letter about the event they were planning and sent it to newspapers all over the United States, Gardiner told Live Science in 2016. “You’ll find that letter in dozens of newspapers,” Gardiner said. “It got out, and it was republished everywhere in the country.” In their letter, the ladies asked people to celebrate the war’s fallen heroes on April 26, which was the same day Confederate forces surrendered in North Carolina in 1865. “That’s what many people in the South considered to be the end of the war,” Gardiner told Live Science. Even though Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered on April 9, “there were still 90,000 people ready to fight. And until those 90,000 surrendered on April 26, the war was effectively still going on,” Gardiner said. Many people across the South read Williams’ published letter and on April 26, 1866, many began decorating the graves of Confederate soldiers. However, these same people also noticed the graves of Union soldiers remained flowerless. “They start to see these Union graves that are just laying there, kind of barren,” Gardiner noted. “Their hearts are warmed. Their hearts start to feel bad for the mothers who have lost these children. So, they start to throw flowers on the Yankee graves. And then that story gets published everywhere.” Southern folks continued the practice in 1867 and 1868. When Decoration Day became a federal holiday in 1868, getting the flowers to decorate the graves in the northern states presented a problem, so the federal government moved it to May 30, so that people could decorate the war dead with wildflowers, according to Gardiner. And as the years passed after “The Great Unpleasantness” as the Civil War was sometimes referred to in the press, old hatreds dissolved, and hearts once hardened by war were softened with the passing of time. In one instance, a few lines written on a small piece of paper is all it took to melt a few hearts. The committee in Lafayette, Ind., organizing the city’s Decoration Day ceremonies in 1868 received a wreath made of flowers from a local girl. She had attached a short note, according to the Andersonville National Historic Site operated by the National Park Service in Georgia. “Will you please put this wreath upon some rebel soldier’s grave. My dear papa is buried at Andersonville, and perhaps some little girl will be kind enough to put a few flowers upon his grave. — Jennie Vernon” Newspapers across the country picked up the story of Jennie’s note and one, The Mobile Register, also added another paragraph. “The wreath was deposited on the grave of an unknown Confederate soldier, the only one remaining in the cemetery. God bless little Jennie!” the newspaper added to their edition published on June 18, 1868. The story of the girl’s kind gesture was reprinted throughout the nation that summer. Vernon was the daughter of Sgt. Samuel James Walker Vernon, Company K of the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He died in June of 1864 at the Camp Sumter military prison located near Andersonville and is now buried in the Andersonville National Cemetery. It is not known if Jennie’s gesture was returned in 1868. In this real photo postcard, Civil War veterans and their families prepare to have lunch after attending a Decoration Day ceremony held in their local cemetery. As the Decoration Day tradition continued to spread, people across the country placed flowers and US flags on both the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers every year. It was expanded after World War I to honor those who have died in all American wars. After World War II, the observance began to be commonly referred to as Memorial Day. Decoration Day was renamed Memorial Day in 1967 when Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act and the holiday was moved to the last Monday in May. In this real photo postcard published after the turn of the 20th century, you can see Civil War veterans posing in front of the local Boy Scout troop after a Decoration Day parade. Some of the women standing in front of the veterans may have served as nurses in the Union Army during the war. To ensure the sacrifices of America’s fallen heroes are never forgotten, in December 2000, Congress passed and the president signed into law The National Moment of Remembrance Act. The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3:00 pm local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. As Jesus said in the New Testament’s John 15:13: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Source link #Memorial #Day #Years #Decoration #Day #Observed #Honor #Remember #Civil #War #Dead Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  25. FBI announces new probes into Dobbs Supreme Court leak, White House ******** incident FBI announces new probes into Dobbs Supreme Court leak, White House ******** incident By Raphael Satter WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The FBI will launch new probes into the 2023 discovery of ******** at the White House during President Joe Biden’s term and the 2022 leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, a top official announced on Monday. Dan Bongino, a rightwing podcaster-turned-FBI deputy director, made the announcement on X, where he said he had requested weekly briefings on the cases’ progress. Both incidents have been popular talking points on America’s right. The discovery of a small bag of ******** in a cubby near the entrance to the West Wing two years ago drew excited commentary from Republicans, including then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who said it was implausible the drugs could belong to anyone beyond Biden and his son Hunter – even though the Biden family was away from Washington at the time. A White House spokesperson said then that the allegations were “incredibly irresponsible.” The publication of the Supreme Court’s opinion ending the constitutional right to abortion in Politico on May 2, 2022, provoked condemnation from Trump, who called the source of the leak “******” and demanded that the journalists involved be imprisoned until they revealed who it was. Previous investigations into both cases, by the Secret Service and the Supreme Court, respectively, ended without identifying who was responsible for the ******** or the leak. Bongino has previously alleged, without presenting any evidence, that he was in touch with whistleblowers who told him they were “suspicious” that evidence from the White House ******** bag “could match a member of the inner Biden circle.” Bongino also announced more resources for the FBI’s investigation into the placement of pipe bombs at the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee in Washington. The bombs, which were later defused, had been planted the night before Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in a failed bid to block Congress from certifying Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. The perpetrator has never been publicly identified.
