Mid West food on show through Plating Up WA initiative to highlight WA produce
Two Mid West restaurants have been included in a Statewide campaign promoting WA’s best produce, showcasing signature dishes throughout June.
Plating Up WA, a State Government initiative through its Buy West Eat Best program, will see 45 venues across the State create speciality dishes highlighting local produce.
The Jaffle Shack in Geraldton and Lobster Shack in Cervantes have been included in the program, with local seafood and local vegetables taking centre stage.

Buy West Eat Best program manager Melissa Worthington said organisers were proud to bring back the event for a seventh year.
“Since launching in 2018, this campaign has showcased more than 300 venues, and it continues to grow each year,” she said.
“I’m especially excited to see new venues joining us for the very first time this year.
“Many of the ingredients featured are selected directly from our Buy West Eat Best ingredient register — it’s a true celebration of our local producers and the creative chefs who bring their stories to life on the plate.”
At The Jaffle Shack, the signature dish is a garlic mushroom jaffle which, according to Plating Up WA, uses WA mushrooms and Geraldton basil.

Look at me, I have everything
Look at me, I have everything
Donald Trump told a Memorial Day ceremony attended by families of war dead that he had “everything”.
The US president, seemingly digressing from his prepared remarks while speaking at Arlington National Cemetery, said he was looking forward to hosting the Olympics, World Cup and a military parade during his second term after paying tribute to the sacrifice of fallen soldiers.
The parade through Washington, DC on June 14 is intended to mark the 250th anniversary of the US army, although it will also fall on Mr Trump’s 79th birthday.
Mr Trump said the event would be a “big, big celebration”, and added: “I’m glad I missed that second term where it was because I wouldn’t be your president.”
The president told the crowd at Arlington National Amphitheatre, who warmly received him and applauded his remarks: “In addition, we have the World Cup and we have the Olympics.
“Can you imagine I missed that four years? And now look what I have I have everything – amazing the way things work out.”
During his address, Mr Trump also hit out at “unchecked” migration under his predecessor, Joe Biden, and earlier on Monday wished a “happy Memorial Day to all, including the ***** that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country”.
He introduced a number of Gold Star Families, whose relatives died in combat, during his speech and praised the “immortal deeds” of “American warriors”.
He told two young boys, whose mother, naval officer Shannon Kent, was killed by a suicide bomber in Syria six years ago: “Let me say your mum was a hero and her love, her strength, and her spirit are always with us and always with you.”

05:25 PM BSTTrump pays tribute to Shannon Kent
Donald Trump is paying tribute to a number of fallen soldiers who have family members in attendance.
Shannon Kent, a Navy senior chief petty officer, was killed by a suicide bomber in Syria six years ago, leaving behind a husband and two young sons, he says.
“Today Shannon rests in peace on these grounds alongside her comrades,” Mr Trump continues.
“Let me say your mum was a hero and her love, her strength, and her spirit are always with us and always with you. She loved her boys.”
05:20 PM BSTTrump: US will ‘be greater than ever’
The “greatest monument” to the sacrifice of US soldiers is an “American nation, 325 million strong, which will soon be greater than it has ever been before”, Donald Trump continues.
He tells the story of a 24-year-old airman who was killed during the Vietnam War called Elroy Harworth, and introduces the man’s son and grandson in attendance at Arlington.
“Great family,” Mr Trump adds.
05:17 PM BSTTrump criticises ‘unchecked’ migration during address
Donald Trump pays tribute to the “immortal deeds” of “American warriors”.
He says they left “unfillable void and an unbreakable silence in the lives of all who love them”.
Mr Trump continues: “This Memorial Day is especially significant as we commemorate 250 years since the first American patriots field on the field of battle, two and a half centuries ago at Lexington Green, Concord Bridge, Bunker Hill.”

He says their sacrifice gave them a Republic “that I am fixing after a long and hard four years – that was a long, hard four years we went through.”
Mr Trump continues: “People pouring through our borders unchecked, people doing things that are indescribable and not for today to discuss.”
05:11 PM BSTTrump up now
Donald Trump is now delivering the presidential address for Memorial Day.
05:10 PM BSTVance: We must be cautious about going to war
America’s leaders should “treat the lives of our troops as the most pressure resource,” JD Vance says, drawing a round of applause from those in attendance.
He continues: “The very best way to honour the fallen, is to only ask the next generation to make the ultimate sacrifice when they absolutely must. We must be cautious in sending our people to war.”
05:09 PM BST‘This is what Memorial Day is all about’
JD Vance is speaking now, urging Americans to think about the sacrifice of fallen soldiers.
“The real tragedy of the loss is not in a single moment of suffering… but in all the future moments they and their families lost, every moment between their sacrifice on the battlefield and what would have been a natural death,” he says.
“They sacrifice a child’s embrace. They sacrifice walking their daughter down the aisle.”
The US vice president continues: “Consider the sum of all the moments that make a good life, and now appreciate the countless strangers, people most of you never met, they gave up those moments in their own life so that we could enjoy them in ours.
“And that is what Memorial Day is all about.”
04:59 PM BSTHegseth: We must prepare for war
Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, is speaking now.
“Because we strive for peace we must prepare for war,” he says. “We will never, on behalf of those who have given so much, we will never be complacent. We owe these men nothing less.”

He declares that they are standing “on the shoulders of those great men in those graces, and may we live to be worthy of it”.
04:50 PM BSTJoint chiefs chairman talking now
Dan Caine, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, is speaking before Donald Trump.
He pays tribute to fallen troops who gave “the gift of selfless sacrifice for something greater than themselves” and their “incredible acts of valour and sacrifice”.
He quotes George S. Patton, the US general who commanded the Seventh Army during the Allied invasion of Sicily during the Second World War: “We should thank God that some such men lived.”
04:44 PM BSTTrump walks out
Donald Trump has appeared in front of the crowd at Arlington, pumping his fist as “Hail to the Chief” played.

04:20 PM BSTTrump wishes ‘happy Memorial Day’ to ‘*****’
Ahead of his remarks at Arlington National Cemetery, Donald Trump wished a “happy Memorial Day to all, including the ***** that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds”.
He hit out at Joe Biden, his predecessor, as an “incompetent president” who had opened the US’ borders to let foreign criminals pour in, whom he claimed were now being protected by “USA-hating judges”.
The US president concluded: “Fear not, we have made great progress over the last four months, and American will soon be safe and great again! Again, happy Memorial Day, and God Bless America.”
04:16 PM BSTTrump calls Putin ‘crazy’ after Russia’s largest air attack on Ukraine
Donald Trump has called Vladimir Putin “absolutely crazy” for his attacks on Ukrainian cities, levelling some of his sharpest criticism at the Russian leader.
A record number of Russian drones killed at least 13 people across Ukraine at the weekend, despite a prisoner exchange and the US pushing for a truce.
In a rare rebuke to Putin, Mr Trump on Sunday night posted on Truth Social: “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely crazy!”
The US president went on to warn that if Putin wanted to conquer all of Ukraine, it would “lead to the downfall of Russia”.

People say, can’t they add this or do that
“People say, can’t they add this or do that”
Ever wonder why your brilliant suggestion for Helldivers 2 hasn’t made it into the game yet? Johan Pilestedt has some thoughts about that. The Arrowhead Game Studios boss recently dropped some truth bombs about player expectations versus development reality.
Turns out, adding that “simple” feature you’ve been requesting all along might not be so simple after all. Who could have predicted that game development involves more than just pressing the “add cool stuff” button?
And it is this disconnect—between what players think should be easy and what actually breaks developers’ brains—that has never been more apparent than in today’s live service era.
The “just add it” mentality meets development hell
Players love throwing around suggestions like confetti at a Super Earth victory parade. Want permanent SEAF soldiers? Easy! More weapons? Obviously! New planets every week? Why not! The reality check hits differently when you understand the actual complexity involved.
Pilestedt recently explained this phenomenon to GamesRadar+, highlighting how player assumptions rarely align with development realities:
People say, ‘can’t they add this or do that,’ Most of the time, all of the decisions that you make, especially the larger the game gets, have so many consequences that cascade, making something that seems easy really hard, or something that seems really hard to be super simple. It’s unintuitive unless you’ve worked in games to see how they’re created.
That cascading consequence concept hits particularly hard with Helldivers 2. Adding permanent SEAF troops isn’t just about copy-pasting existing code. It involves rebalancing entire difficulty curves, reworking mission structures, and ensuring the feature doesn’t break the core gameplay loop that makes the game special.
The movie analogy Pilestedt uses perfectly captures this disconnect. Players see the final product and assume adding features works like directing actors—just tell them what to do and they’ll perform.
If you think about when movies are made, you get an actor and they’re there and you tell them what to say. But games are so meticulously crafted. You have to build the actor from the ground up for them to even be able to perform those lines.
This explains why seemingly obvious additions take months to implement. Every new weapon needs balancing, testing, and integration with existing systems. Every new enemy type requires AI programming, animation work, and careful placement within the game’s ecosystem.
When content hunger meets development sustainability
Above: devs confronting players’ content hunger. | Image Credit: Arrowhead Game Studios
The live service model has created an insatiable monster that feeds on constant updates. Players consume content faster than studios can reasonably produce it, leading to unrealistic expectations about development timelines.
Other developers echo similar frustrations about player assumptions. The accessibility of game development tools has created a dangerous side effect—players who know just enough to make completely wrong assumptions about complexity:
It’s now very easy to acquire enough knowledge to make broad incorrect assumptions about how easy a given task should be.
— David Szymanski (Iron Lung, Dusk).
Helldivers 2 exemplifies this perfectly. The Heart of Democracy update reinvigorated the community, but history suggests this honeymoon ******* won’t last. Players will consume the content, demand more, and the cycle continues.
Maybe that’s actually healthy, though. Arrowhead‘s approach of delivering substantial updates rather than constant small additions (that would otherwise turn out to be “lackluster”) might be the smarter long-term strategy. Quality over quantity prevents developer burnout while maintaining the game’s integrity.
The alternative—rushing content to meet unrealistic player demands—leads to crunch culture and ultimately worse games. Sometimes the best thing developers can do is ignore the loudest voices demanding immediate gratification.
What’s your take on the balance between player expectations and development reality? Share your thoughts below, and let’s discuss whether patience really is a virtue in gaming.

John Swinney accuses Reform of racism over Anas Sarwar advert

John Swinney says the “unacceptable” video should be removed from social media
First Minister John Swinney has accused Reform *** of a “racist attack” on Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar.
Both the SNP and Labour have complained to Facebook’s parent company Meta about a Reform advert running on the site ahead of a South Lanarkshire by-election.
The video features text claiming Sarwar “will prioritise the Pakistani community”.
Reform has denied the video is racist and said it has no plans to take it down.
Speaking on the campaign trail ahead of the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election, Swinney said the advert was “blatantly racist”.
He called for Meta to remove the video, telling reporters: “I don’t want racism anywhere in any shape or form in our politics there’s a responsibility on these social media companies to act.”
FACEBOOK
Scottish Labour have described the Reform *** advert as “blatantly racist”
The first minister said: “Anas Sarwar is a political rival of mine but he should not be subjected to that kind of racist attack.”
He urged politicians to “stand in solidarity against” Reform *** leader Nigel Farage.
Scottish Labour had already described the advert as “blatantly racist”.
The party complained to Meta two weeks ago, while the SNP lodged a separate complaint on Monday.
The SNP’s chief executive, Carol Beattie, said in a letter to the social media firm that the video “crosses the line into race-baiting and scapegoating”.
PA Media
Nigel Farage’s party has denied the advert is racist
She added that it was an attempt to “provoke division, stir racial resentment, and marginalise Pakistani residents in Scotland”.
The SNP urged Meta to remove the content and “apply appropriate sanctions”.
The party also asked for clarification on how the organisation how political advertising would be monitored “to prevent the incitement of racial hatred.”
The Scottish Greens also described the Reform advert as racist, while the Liberal Democrats accused Farage’s party of “scummy tactics”.
Meta has been asked to comment.
‘Pathetic and panicky’
Reform councillor Thomas Kerr accused Swinney and Sarwar of “desperately trying to deflect attention away from the facts”.
He said: “This advert uses Mr Sarwar’s own words – if he doesn’t like them, he shouldn’t use them.
“The SNP and Labour have both broken Scotland, it’s no surprise they’re now forming some sort of pathetic and panicky anti-Reform coalition.”
Voters will go to the polls in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election on 5 June following the death of SNP MSP Christina McKelvie earlier this year.
The candidates standing in the ballot are:
Katy Loudon – SNP
Davy Russell – Labour
Richard Nelson – Conservative
Ann McGuinness – Greens
Aisha Mir – Liberal Democrat
Ross Lambie – Reform
Collette Bradley – Scottish Socialist Party
Andy Brady – Scottish Family Party
Janice Mackay – *** Independence Party
Mark Wilkinson – Independent

State School Teachers Union branches call for clarity on what to tell kids about Gaza conflict
State School Teachers Union branches call for clarity on what to tell kids about Gaza conflict
Teachers from several public schools are calling for protection from sanctions for voicing support for Palestinians in Gaza as well as more clarity on what they can and can’t teach students about the conflict.
Their demands have been revealed in the agenda for the State School Teachers Union’s biannual State council, to be held on June 13 and 14.
Eight of 20 motions submitted by school branches for debate at council — the union’s peak decision-making body — reference the conflict in Gaza.
“The SSTUWA will guarantee support for members taking appropriate and peaceful action to advance the human rights of Palestinians and reject any unlawful employer and government actions that seek to restrict appropriate and peaceful action,” a motion from Morley’s John Forrest Secondary College said.
And Hillman Primary School proposed: “The SSTUWA reaffirms the principles of the WA curriculum’s general capabilities of ethical understanding … and supports members who choose to reference ************ voices in teaching programs developed in accordance with these principles.”
The agenda also includes an international report endorsing the *********** Education Union’s call for a ceasefire in Gaza. It revealed the SSTU had “formally requested” the Education Department provide guidance to school leaders and teachers to help protect people from racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
The report said the union “affirms the right of individual employees to express their cultural identity”, but recognised tension could arise when that became linked to a “controversial policy position”.
While the union accepted teachers must abide by the department’s code of conduct and avoid perceptions that personal political views may conflict with professional duties, it pledged support for teachers who may be unfairly targeted.
“We expect the department to act with sensitivity and respect towards employees and resolve any issues that arise in a respectful and considerate way, without being influenced by intemperate media reports or political commentary,” it said. “We will support our members should this not be found to be the case.”
SSTUWA president Matt Jarman said the report and motions were part of a “general wave of solidarity” across the country that would be debated at State council.
“Members are using their right to demand support and clear up any confusion,” he said.
Mr Jarman said the Education Department had previously provided guidance papers on dealing with topical or controversial issues.
“Not taking a position, but making clear what they can and cannot do in delivering the curriculum,” he said. “Obviously there’s concern in schools, they feel they don’t have that clarity.”
It comes as the department revealed it would strengthen its approach to managing anti-Semitism — including extra training for staff and guidance on teaching controversial topics — after a teacher’s classroom tribute to the dead leader of terrorist organisation ****** triggered an independent inquiry.
The teacher took indefinite leave in February after it emerged she had last year written on a whiteboard in the colours of the ************ flag “Rest in peace I.H. you were a great leader”, in reference to Ismail Haniyeh.
Premier Roger Cook ordered the Education Department to review its handling of the incident when it came to light.
At the start of the school year, teachers were warned not to express personal views about international conflicts “of a polarising nature” in a memo sent by the department.

WRC rights return to Nacon, after EA’s Codemasters ends rally game development
WRC rights return to Nacon, after EA’s Codemasters ends rally game development
Nacon has regained the rights to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), after Electronic Arts’ Codemasters announced it had ended development on its rally games.
Nacon, which previously developed WRC games from 2015 until 2022, has signed a new agreement that grants it exclusive rights for PC and consoles for six seasons, from 2027 through 2032.
The company says it plans to develop “a complete reboot” of the franchise, based on “an entirely fresh vision”, aiming to deliver “an immersive experience that faithfully reflects the reality of the championship and meets the expectations of both rally enthusiasts and new players”.
The last WRC game, EA Sports WRC, was developed by Codemasters and released in 2023. Earlier this month, Codemasters – which was acquired by EA in 2021 – confirmed it had ended its partnership with the World Rally Championship (WRC), and that it would thus be “pausing” development plans for future rally titles.
Alain Falc, CEO of Nacon, said of its new deal: “We are thrilled to renew our collaboration with WRC Promoter. This iconic license provides an exceptional playground to build a highly refined driving experience that lives up to the expectations of rally fans.
“Between 2015 and 2023, we had the opportunity to work closely with the championship’s official teams and many drivers, allowing us to gain solid and unique expertise in translating rallying into a video game experience.
“This new venture marks a major milestone: a fully reimagined project driven by a passionate and specialized team, with a clear ambition to elevate rally games to new heights.”
WRC marketing boss Arne Dirks added: “After a comprehensive evaluation, we are delighted to have reached an agreement with Nacon. Their vision for the franchise stands out, and their expertise in delivering great rally games is unquestioned.
“We look forward to breaking new ground together in this collaboration, to truly turn the WRC games into epic adventures and offer gaming experiences beyond rally as we know it today.”

Elden Ring Nightreign Director Confirms One Game Mode Is Never Happening
Elden Ring Nightreign Director Confirms One Game Mode Is Never Happening
Once Elden Ring Nightreign launches this week, FromSoftware will take players on an experimental journey across Limveld. It’s a co-op PvE experience that adds a Roguelike touch to the world of Elden Ring, rather than being your usual bread and butter Soulslike.
With the title being primarily focused on PvE, the question of PvP naturally pops up. Elden Ring did have PvP, as players could fight against other players who invaded their land or in the colosseums, but it seems like it won’t be featured in the upcoming title, which is a bummer for many.
PvP was never considered for Elden Ring Nightreign, according to the game’s director
In an interview with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign’s game director, Junya Ishizaki, revealed that PvP was never considered for the game as developing it would have been tough, ditching it in favor of a PvE experience.
From the start, PVP was not something that we very actively considered for Nightreign. We wanted it to be a co-op multiplayer experience at its core and we found that as we developed these character actions and these unique abilities for each character, balancing them and tweaking them around PVP as well proved to be very… Not only very difficult, but took away from those ideas and that scope that we’d established for each of these characters. So we really wanted the focus to be on PVE and on co-op, and so we knew where our priorities were. So no, we didn’t consider PVP in Nightreign.
The game’s overall vision didn’t work with PvP, so it’s safe to say that it’s never making its way to Elden Ring Nightreign. Would the game be better if it had PvP in it? Maybe. But we’re all for developers realising their full vision and making their games around it, so it’s likely for the best.
Elden Ring‘s PvP mode wasn’t a typical PvP mode, as it worked more similarly to invasions and duels rather than having a separate mode. Players invaded different servers filled with players with different builds. Invasions worked in co-op sessions at any point in the world, while duels operated on a 1v1 basis, where players could challenge other invaders to a duel.
Elden Ring Nightreign‘s PvP would have probably worked similarly, the only difference being the number of players engaging in PvP on a single server. The game would have been even more chaotic than it already is, but it would’ve been swell regardless.
On a brighter note, Elden Ring Nightreign will get duo-support in the future
Duos coming soon to Elden Ring Nightreign | Image Credit: FromSoftware
Junya Ishizaki revealed to IGN in the interview that duo-support is currently not in Elden Ring Nightreign as it was overlooked during development, and he also apologised for it. It’s great to see him being this transparent about the game’s features. Hidetaka Miyazaki would be proud.
The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we’re very sorry about that. As we said before, we set out to make this a multiplayer co-op game for three players, balanced for three players, so that was the main focus and it’s at the core of Nightreign.
Ishizaki further explained how they’re looking to add duo-support as a post-launch update to the game, which should come as a relief to players concerned about Nightreign’s post-launch support.
Of course, I myself as a player understand that and often want times where I’m just playing myself, so this is something that we considered from the start. And so we did put a lot of effort into creating this experience that was playable for solo players in as much as the rules and new systems allowed. So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well.
When it was revealed that the game would feature a solo mode and three-player co-op, fans were understandably confused why the option of playing as duos wasn’t featured. It’s only fair to have duos when solo and trios are already in the game.
Thankfully, it looks like it’ll soon arrive in Elden Ring Nightreign. It’s a matter of when rather than if. Until then, you can either play solo or squad up with three players to defeat the bosses plaguing Limveld and emerge victorious in your runs as Nightfarers.
Elden Ring Nightreign launches May 30 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.

Nintendo Switch 2 consoles spotted at US retailers ahead of launch
Nintendo Switch 2 consoles spotted at US retailers ahead of launch
Nintendo Switch 2 consoles have been pictured for the first time arriving at US retailers, ahead of the official launch day of June 5.
In a now-deleted Reddit post (archived by X users), an employee of retailer Target pictured Switch 2 console boxes inside of a locked cage, claiming their store received “around 40” consoles.
A second image shows the Switch 2 consoles outside of the nondescript boxes, confirming that they are indeed Nintendo’s next console.
Nintendo Switch 2 is due to launch in less than ten days on Thursday, June 5, alongside first-party titles Mario Kart World, Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and Switch 2 Editions of current-gen games such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Third-party launch games include Split Fiction, Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization VII, Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Sonic X Shadows Generations, and more.

Donkey Kong: Bananza is due for release in July, with Drag X Drive also expected this Summer. Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Pokémon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are also due this year, with no confirmed release dates.
Earlier this month, Nintendo detailed the free Switch 2 updates coming to 12 of its existing Switch games at launch, including Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Some games will be getting resolution and frame rate boosts, while others will be getting GameShare support, a new feature which means that players with multiple Switch consoles (be that Switch or Switch 2) will be able to play multiplayer with only one copy of the game.
It’s also been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will support text-to-speech as part of Game Chat.

Germany’s Merz says there are no more range restrictions on the weapons supplied to Ukraine
Germany’s Merz says there are no more range restrictions on the weapons supplied to Ukraine
BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s new chancellor said Monday that his country and other major allies are no longer imposing any range restrictions on weapons supplied to Ukraine as it fights the Russian invasion.
Friedrich Merz has plunged into diplomatic efforts to try to secure a ceasefire and keep Western support for Ukraine intact since becoming Germany’s leader nearly three weeks ago.
On Monday, he said that “there are no longer any range restrictions for weapons that have been delivered to Ukraine — neither by the British, nor by the French, nor by us, and not by the Americans either.”
“That means Ukraine can also defend itself by, for example, attacking military positions in Russia,” Merz said at a forum organized by WDR public television. “Until a while ago, it couldn’t. … It can now.”
“We call this ‘long-range fire’ in jargon, also supplying Ukraine with weapons that attack military targets in the hinterland,” he added.
He didn’t elaborate, and it wasn’t clear whether he was referring to the easing of restrictions on longer-range weapons late last year.
Commenting on Merz’s statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a decision to lift range restrictions would be “quite dangerous” and “run contrary to our efforts to reach a political settlement.”
Germany has been the second-biggest supplier of military aid to Ukraine after the United States.
Merz’s government has been tightlipped on whether it will supply Taurus long-range cruise missiles, something his predecessor, Olaf Scholz, refused to do and Merz advocated for as opposition leader. The government has said it will no longer provide full details of the weapons it is supplying to Ukraine, unlike Scholz’s administration, citing the need for “strategic ambiguity.”
Taurus missiles have a range of up to 500 kilometers (310 miles).

Helldivers 2 Player Goes Medieval on Leviathans With ‘Trebuchet’ Stratagem
Helldivers 2 Player Goes Medieval on Leviathans With ‘Trebuchet’ Stratagem
The Helldivers 2‘s lore has taken a dark turn as the Illuminate has launched a terrifying attack on Super Earth. The Illuminate is coming for all seven megacities on Super Earth, and so far, the faction has managed to capture one, Eagleopolis. Now, three more megacities are simultaneously under attack: York Supreme, Port Mercy, and Equality-On-Sea. The strength of the Illuminate Fleet is less than 50%, but Helldivers must continue to give their 100% as the threat is still concerning.
Super Earth has released two Major Orders simultaneously, with one focusing on the eradication of Illuminate and the other focusing on farming scrap metal to bring the DSS back online. In such desperate times, players have used their creativity to combine two Stratagems to create one incredible weapon: The Trebuchet.
Helldivers 2 players have created their own catapult called Trebuchet
While fighting the intense battle on Super Earth, a few great minds came up with the idea of creating a catapult with the Anti-Tank Emplacement. When this Stratagem lands on the ground, its barrel just snaps out, so players thought it would be a great idea to put a live Portable Hellbomb on it and use the entire thing as a catapult to kill enemies from a long range.
So far, most players have tried this out on ground units, but in this viral clip on the r/Helldivers subreddit, a player managed to take out the massive Illuminate Leviathan using the “Trebuchet.“
Creating the Trebuchet on the battlefield isn’t difficult; all players have to do is call in the Anti-Tank Emplacement, and right before it lands on the ground, plant a live Portable Hellbomb right where the beam of light hits the ground. It won’t be easy to hit it on your first try, but you will eventually get the hang of it. It is difficult to lure enemies into the live Portable Hellbomb, so why not just throw it right at them? Creativity at its finest.
The Illuminate is slowly taking over Super Earth
Illuminate has managed to capture one megacity on Super Earth (Image via Arrowhead Game Studios)
Shortly after Super Earth managed to stop the Meridian Singularity, the Illuminate faction emerged right out of it. This time, the faction had backup, introducing many new terrifying units like the Fleshmobs and Stingrays. Players tried their best to slow down the Fleet before it reached Super Earth, but all efforts failed.
The new wave of Illuminate enemies is slowly taking over Super Earth. The faction started with Eagleopolis, and with that megacity now under its control, it has moved to the next megacities. If all seven megacities fall, it will be the end of Super Earth. Players are doing everything they can to slow down this threat from taking over Super Earth.
The Illuminate Fleet Strength is now under 50%, and at this pace, Helldivers might be able to save Super Earth from this new attack, so it’s safe to say that all efforts are not in vain.

No more samba on the strand? Rio de Janeiro to limit live music on the beaches
No more samba on the strand? Rio de Janeiro to limit live music on the beaches
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — If you have been to Rio de Janeiro’ beaches, this probably sounds familiar: samba music drifting from a nearby kiosk, caipirinha cocktails sold by hawkers, chairs sprawled across the sand.
Now that may become harder to find, unless the vendors have the right permits.
Mayor Eduardo Paes issued a decree in mid-May establishing new rules for the city’s waterfront saying he wants to preserve urban order, public safety and the environment, as well as promote peaceful relations between tourists and residents.
The new measures are due to come into force on June 1, and they outlaw food and drink sales, chair rentals, loudspeakers and even live music in kiosks without official permits. Also, beach huts will only be allowed to have a number rather than the often-creative names many are currently known by.
Some have welcomed the move to tackle what they perceive as chaotic activity on the beach, but others say the decree threatens Rio’s dynamic beach culture and the livelihoods of many musicians and local vendors who may find it difficult or impossible to get permits.
The move to regulate music on Rio’s beachfronts has particularly struck a nerve.
“It’s difficult to imagine Rio de Janeiro without bossa nova, without samba on the beach,” said Julio Trindade, who works as a DJ in the kiosks. “While the world sings the Girl from Ipanema, we won’t be able to play it on the beach.”
The restrictions on music amounts to “silencing the soul of the waterfront. It compromises the spirit of a democratic, musical, vibrant, and authentic Rio,” Orla Rio, a concessionaire who manages more than 300 kiosks, said in a statement.
Can this be stopped or changed?
Some are seeking ways to stop the implementation of the decree or at least modify it to allow live music without a permit. But so far to little avail.
The nonprofit Brazilian Institute of Citizenship, which defends social and consumer rights, filed a lawsuit last week requesting the suspension of the articles restricting live music, claiming that the measure compromises the free exercise of economic activity. A judge ruled that the group is not a legitimate party to present a complaint, and the nonprofit is appealing the decision.
Also last week, Rio’s municipal assembly discussed a bill that aims to regulate the use of the coastline, including beaches and boardwalks. It backs some aspects of the decree such as restricting amplified music on the sand but not the requirement that kiosks have permits for live musicians. The proposal still needs to formally be voted on, and it’s not clear if that will happen before June 1.
If approved, the bill will take precedence over the decree.
Economic activity on Rio’s beaches, excluding kiosks, bars and restaurants, generates an estimated 4 billion reais (around $710 million) annually, according to a 2022 report by Rio’s City Hall.
Millions of foreigners and locals hit Rio’s beaches every year and many indulge in sweet corn, grilled cheese or even a bikini or electronic devices sold by vendors on the sprawling sands.
Local councilwoman Dani Balbi lashed out against the bill on social media.
“What’s the point of holding big events with international artists and neglecting the people who create culture every day in the city?” she said last week on Instagram, in reference to the huge concerts by Lady Gaga earlier this month and Madonna last year.
“Forcing stallholders to remove the name of their businesses and replace it with numbers compromises the brand identity and the loyalty of customers, who use that location as a reference,” Balbi added.
Anger, fear and sadness
News of the decree seeking to crack down on unregistered hawkers provoked ripples of anger and fear among peddlers.
“It’s tragic,” said Juan Marcos, a 24-year-old who sells prawns on sticks on Copacabana beach and lives in a nearby favela, or low-income urban community. “We rush around madly, all to bring a little income into the house. What are we going to do now?”
City Hall doesn’t give enough permits to hawkers on the beach, said Maria de Lourdes do Carmo, 50, who heads the United Street Vendors’ Movement — known by its acronym MUCA.
“We need authorizations, but they’re not given,” said Lourdes do Carmo, who is known as Maria of the Street Vendors. The city government did not respond to a request for the number of authorizations given last year.
Following the outcry, the city government emphasized that some rules were already in place in a May 21 statement. The town hall added that it is talking to all affected parties to understand their demands and is considering adjustments.
Maria Lucia Silva, a 65-year-old resident of Copacabana who was walking back from the seafront with a pink beach chair under her arm, said she had been expecting City Hall to act.
“Copacabana is a neighborhood for elderly people (… ). Nobody pays a very high property tax or absurd rents to have such a huge mess,” Silva said, slamming the noise and pollution on the beach.
For Rebecca Thompson, 53, who hails from Wales and was again visiting Rio after a five-week trip last year, the frenzy is part of the charm.
“There’s vibrancy, there’s energy. For me, there’s always been a strong sense of community and acceptance. I think it would be very sad if that were to go,” she said.

Latest Updates on Console Launch Timeline and Availability
Latest Updates on Console Launch Timeline and Availability
Developed by Team *****, Delta Force is a free-to-play tactical FPS that has overtaken the gaming industry. The title managed to peak at 131,000 concurrent players on Steam right after its release in January 2025. The hype hasn’t slowed down in recent months either, as the game continues to pull in thousands of gamers.
It’s not a surprise that Delta Force has been able to sustain its momentum so far. The developers have been constantly bombarding the title with new additions and features that gamers simply can’t get enough of. There’s something new every time players jump into this FPS game.
Unfortunately, Xbox players still await their chance to experience Delta Force. If you’re among them and curious about when you’ll dive in, here’s everything we know about the game’s release schedule on Xbox.
Delta Force Xbox Release Date: What We Know So Far
Delta Force‘s Xbox release has been pushed back. (Image via Team *****)
Delta Force was initially slated to release on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles in Q1 2025. However, that never ended up happening, as Team ***** decided to delay the launch. Game director Shadow Guo confirmed in a Q&A video that the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game still require “more time.”
Given that console releases are typically a top priority for game developers, this news came as a shock to Xbox gamers. It felt unfair that such a beloved game didn’t launch on the console from day one and was then delayed further. However, there’s a reason why Team ***** has pushed back the console versions.
Reasons Behind the Console Release Delay
The developers need more time to polish the game. (Image via Team *****)
According to Team *****, the console version of the FPS game is progressing well. However, the development team believes it can improve the overall user experience by tuning various things such as player input, controller balance, and interaction compatibility.
The challenges go beyond just simple control adjustments. The studio has noted that optimizing the user interface for console platforms has proved to be more complex than they had originally anticipated.
The developers don’t want to release an unpolished game, so they’re spending more time tuning the console versions of Delta Force. It’s great to see that Team ***** is focusing on optimizing the console versions, unlike many gaming developers.
As of now, there’s still an ETA for the game’s release on Xbox consoles, but Guo has stated that Team ***** will publish a roadmap in the future.
What to Expect from Delta Force on Xbox
Delta Force on Xbox consoles looks like a fantastic game. (Image via Team *****)
Delta Force is a long-standing franchise with a legacy spanning over 25 years in the FPS genre. It’s given us defined tactical shooter gameplay, emphasizing realistic combat and special operations. Delta Force on Xbox is bringing a modernized version of the game while retaining the original series’s core aspects.
Recently, Team ***** revealed fresh footage of Delta Force running on Xbox Series consoles. In the timestamped clip, it’s been shown that the Xbox Store Page for the FPS game will go live soon, and the Xbox-specific controls for the title have almost been finished.
It’s still unclear what we can expect to see with the console version of the Delta Force. Team ***** still hasn’t announced any plans for cross-play on Xbox with other platforms. However, considering that most multiplayer games today support cross-play, we can expect to see the same with Delta Force when it releases on Xbox.
There’s a chance we could see cross-progression for the Xbox version of Delta Force. It’s already a thing for the mobile and PC versions of the game, allowing gamers to play the game on both platforms using the same ID and progress.
Team ***** is also likely to bring enhanced Xbox features for Delta Force, such as improvements in graphics, full support for controller-based gameplay, and smoother frame rates.
With that said, do you think Delta Force will be a success story on Xbox consoles? Let us know in the comments below!

Australians urged to walk together for reconciliation
Australians urged to walk together for reconciliation
As Australians crossed into a new millennium, more than 250,000 people crossed the Sydney Harbour Bridge for reconciliation.
It was an iconic moment Reconciliation Australia chief executive Karen Mundine said, and one being remembered 25 years later as Reconciliation Week begins with the theme “Bridging Now to Next”.
“That was such a great moment, to see so many people came out in force and say ‘I want to be part of this work, I want to be part of reconciliation’,” she told AAP.
Reconciliation Week is held each year between May 27 and June 3, marking the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
Ms Mundine said to understand where Australia found itself, it was important to understand the past, the triumphs and the setbacks, and the truth of its history.
“‘Bridging Now to Next’ is really about learning from history, it’s about grounding us and where we are today and then using all of that combined knowledge to chart a new path forward,” she said.
Ms Mundine said 25 years after the bridge walk, there was still a need for reconciliation in Australia, with the issues of voice, treaty and truth-telling, raised in the Uluru Statement from the Heart not yet dealt with.
“(During the referendum) we weren’t able to convince enough Australians to get that over the line,” she said.
“That’s the job of reconciliation to get out there and broaden the *********** community’s understanding about history and understanding that impact on First Nations people, not just in the past but as it happens today.”
Monday marked eight years since the Uluru Statement from the Heart was issued, an anniversary that brought up a lot of emotion for Allira Davis.
The Cobble Cobble woman is a co-chair of the Uluru Youth Dialogue and Australia still has a long way to go to meaningfully recognise Aboriginal people.
“We still need structural reform in place,” she said.
“We still need something that represents us.
“Unfortunately, Closing the Gap is not working. We’ve only met four of the 19 targets … something needs to change.”
But just as the thousands who crossed the harbour bridge for reconciliation in 2000, Ms Davis said there were plenty of people who stood with First Nations people in October 2023, and continue to do so.
“We do have 6.2 million friends that did vote yes,” she said.
“In terms of reconciliation, I think our non-Indigenous brothers and sisters are still walking with us.”

Trump marks Memorial Day and trumpets his second-term successes
Trump marks Memorial Day and trumpets his second-term successes
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump delivered a history-laden Memorial Day speech after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, his remarks echoing against the solemn backdrop of Arlington National Cemetery, final resting place of more than 400,000 veterans and their family members.
The second-term Republican president’s remarks contrasted with his other more-combative public comments from throughout the long holiday weekend, including an all-caps message sent just hours earlier that swung hard at his political opponents and federal judges.
Drawing upon the ongoing 250th anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, Trump shared the names and ages of a few of the colonists killed at the 1775 battle of Lexington and Concord, which marked the start of the colonialists’ revolt against British rule.
More: The Army’s ultimate memorial honor: Horse-drawn Caissons funerals to resume at Arlington
“Brave Minutemen and farm boys became the first to give their lives for a nation that did not yet have a name,” Trump said. “Their deaths … ignited the flame of liberty that now lights, inspires everybody in the entire world.”
Trump also, in keeping with Memorial Day speeches delivered during his first administration, highlighted Gold Star families from the country’s recent wars.
He mentioned Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent, a Navy cryptologic technician and mother of two who was killed in a January 2019 suicide bombing in Syria.
US President Donald Trump delivers remarks at the National Veterans Day Observance at the Memorial Amphitheatre in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, on May 26, 2025.
More: How Arlington National Cemetery became a sacred site to honor our fallen military
“Shannon was on her fifth combat deployment, embedded with a team hunting ISIS terrorists through the streets of Syria” when she was killed, Trump said. Kent’s husband, Joe, is a former Army Green Beret and CIA paramilitary officer who is currently nominated to head the National Counterterrorism Center.
Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, joined Trump at Arlington. Memorial Day, which originated in 1868 as a day to remember U.S. Civil War dead, was standardized as a federal holiday honoring all fallen members of the U.S. military beginning in 1971.
Vance and Hegseth reiterated the administration’s objective of avoiding foreign conflicts in their remarks.
“The best way to honor our fallen is to only ask the next generation to make the ultimate sacrifice when they absolutely must,” Vance said.
Hegseth, referring to the Arlington war dead, said, “The duty we owe these men is peace, which can only be achieved through strength.”

More: Trump tells West Point grads to avoid ‘trophy wives’ in commencement speech
Save for a brief interlude where he described a “long and hard four years” with “people pouring through our borders unchecked,” Trump largely avoided partisan jabs during his address.
But in the hours before the ceremony and in his May 24 commencement speech at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Trump used the holiday to go after his domestic political opponents.
“HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE ***** THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on May 26. The president also attacked the federal judiciary in his all-caps posting, calling judges who impede his agenda “MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL.”
And while addressing the nation’s newest Army officers, the thrice-married president detailed the purported risks of “trophy wives” and celebrated the end of “critical race theory or transgender for everybody forced onto our brave men and women in uniform — or on anybody else for that matter, in this country,” while invoking the memory of Al Capone.
At the Tomb, the president also professed his excitement for the number of symbolic events occurring in the years ahead.
‘God did that’: Trump on timing of Army’s 250th birthday, World Cup, Olympics
Veterans salute in the amphitheatre at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the start of a ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025.
More: Trump says 2026 World Cup will be ‘more exciting’ due to trade war with Canada and Mexico
As Trump spoke about the “immense and ultimate sacrifices” of American soldiers over the past 250 years, he brought up the fact that the U.S. Army was planning to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding with a parade on June 14. That event also happens to fall on Trump’s 79th birthday.
“We’re going to have a big, big celebration,” said Trump. “I’m glad I missed that second term … because I wouldn’t be your president for that.”
Trump, who lost the 2020 election, would have missed the event had he been elected to a consecutive second term. During his current term, Trump is also expected to preside over the FIFA World Cup in 2026, which the U.S. will co-host with Canada and Mexico as well as the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
US President Donald Trump (R), US Vice President JD Vance (2R), US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (2L), and MG Trevor Bredenkamp, Commanding General of the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and the US Military District of Washington, salute before laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025.
Trump said God had willed the trifecta of events.
“Now look what I have,” he said. “I have everything. Amazing the way things work out. God did that.”
After the ceremony ended, Trump quickly departed to play a round of golf.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Director Reveals the Name of the Ubisoft Game That Was a Nightmare to Make
Assassin’s Creed Hexe Director Reveals the Name of the Ubisoft Game That Was a Nightmare to Make
By now, most of us have heard whispers of Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe, Ubisoft’s mysterious, witchy new installment in the Assassin’s Creed universe. But behind the eerie teaser, the game’s creative director, Clint Hocking, has been brewing up more than just dark magic.
In a recent interview, Hocking confessed to the sins he committed while working on the game, whose name he’d never want to conjure again: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Yes, that beloved stealth classic. Why? Because it was a full-blown development nightmare for him.
From stealth missions to stress: Assassin’s Creed Hexe Director had it all
Back in the early 2000s, Hocking wasn’t just the creative director, he was also the lead level designer and scriptwriter. That’s three full-time jobs. At once. And on a two-year tight deadline. Cue 80-hour work weeks, memory loss, and what he once described as literal brain damage. Yikes.
In an interview with Edge Magazine (via GameRadar), Hocking admitted that while the project began with enthusiasm and dedication to create something spectacular. But it quickly spiraled out of control and took a heavy toll on his health. He said:
took on too many tasks and too many responsibilities […] effectively doing three jobs at the same time. Now I only have one job […] and I try to surround myself with people who are better than me at those other jobs.
The easy translation: Crunch culture turned his brain into digital soup. These days, Hocking is all about sustainability. No more 80-hour weeks or midnight desk naps. As the creative lead on Hexe, he’s sticking to one job—and letting a talented team handle the rest.
And while we don’t know much about Codename Hexe yet besides it’s going to be dark with horror elements (Ubisoft’s been tighter-lipped than an Assassin in a haystack), one thing’s clear: this time, Clint Hocking is working smarter, not harder, and that’s a win for everyone, especially him.
What Codename Hexe might be cooking up
Who knew dark magic was safer than espionage? | Image Credit: Ubisoft
While Ubisoft is keeping details tightly under wraps, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe is already casting a long, eerie shadow over the franchise. The teaser trailer, complete with dark forests, cryptic symbols, and serious Blair Witch vibes, has sparked anticipation and various speculation.
It’s also part of Ubisoft’s ambitious Assassin’s Creed hub: Animus Hub, for future titles, that’s meant to evolve how the series is delivered. Rumors point to a setting during the 16th-century European witch trials, likely in Germany, with a tone much darker than previous entries.
Think fewer rooftop leaps, more ritual circles. If that holds true, Hexe could be a bold departure from the franchise’s roots, and with Hocking at the helm, known for innovative, unconventional storytelling, it might just be the series’ most daring entry yet.
What’s most encouraging? This time, the creative magic isn’t coming at the cost of someone’s mental or physical health.

S&P 500 Futures Rebound as Tariff Threat Eases—Is It Just a Relief Rally?
S&P 500 Futures Rebound as Tariff Threat Eases—Is It Just a Relief Rally?
The U.S. president said he delayed imposing 50% tariffs on EU imports after a call from the president of the European Commission. On this news, index futures are adding nearly 1.5% on Monday, pushing back from the 200-day moving average as support.
Unlikely to be intentional, but Trump has helped in the formation of an important bullish pattern, keeping the key US market index above the psychologically important curve that separates a rising market from a falling market. The index was above that line on May 12th but started to give up ground just under a week ago and briefly fell below 5800 last Friday on unexpected news of 50% tariffs. The leisurely pace of negotiations by European bureaucrats has infuriated the US President, who has so far had no meaningful progress on tariff deals with the EU as opposed to some agreements with the ***, China and several other partners.
The first technical line of resistance now looks to be the 6000 area on the , near where the index last peaked. If we continue to receive positive trade signals, it could open the fast track to the historical highs at 6100-6150, a 4-4.5% upside.
However, a reliable rise higher will require more than postponing tariffs or promising negotiations. It is also possible that the very fact that deals are being made will be a ‘sell the facts’ signal. The only truly fundamental growth driver for equities seems to be a shift in Fed sentiment from the current postponement of rate cuts to policy easing or, better yet, a return to the market with long-term bond buying.
So far, there are few signals of such a shift in sentiment, as the Fed’s shrank by $24.5bn last week. Over the past month, markets have shifted expectations for the next key rate cut to September, giving a 41% chance of keeping it at the current level versus only 1.6% a month ago. And the base case scenario was two cuts versus four at the end of the year.
