  1. Trump responds to Musk saying he’s ‘disappointed’ in big tax bill Trump responds to Musk saying he’s ‘disappointed’ in big tax bill WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump defended the sweeping tax and policy bill he is pushing through Congress after his ally Elon Musk said he was “disappointed” in the package’s price tag. “I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk told CBS News’ “Sunday Morning.” More: Elon Musk bemoans DOGE becoming Trump administration’s ‘whipping boy’ The bill passed by the House on May 22 would extend existing income tax cuts and implement new ones for tipped wages and overtime, add new restrictions to benefit programs like Medicaid and food stamps and fund Trump’s deportation efforts. It would also add an estimated $3.8 trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years due to those tax cuts, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office – a point of frustration for fiscal conservatives in Congress as well as Musk. “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful,” Musk told CBS News, “but I don’t know if it can be both. My personal opinion.” Asked about Musk’s comment at the White House on May 28, Trump suggested that the high price tag is a result of the House’s tough politics: Republican leaders there could afford to lose only two GOP votes and still pass the bill. If they had implemented deeper cuts, they would have likely lost the votes of key moderates. “We have to get a lot of votes, we can’t be cutting – we need to get a lot of support,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “We will be negotiating that bill. I’m not happy about certain aspects of it, but I’m thrilled by other aspects of it,” Trump continued. He noted that the bill still has to go through the Senate and back through the House before it can be signed into law: “It’s got a way to go.” Lawmakers are hoping to pass the bill by July 4, though the real deadline is the end of July, as the United States is expected to default on its debt sometime in August. The bill includes a $4 trillion increase in the debt ceiling. The back-and-forth between Musk and Trump is a rare moment of public disagreement between the president and his billionaire advisor as Musk steps back from his role leading the temporary Department of Government Efficiency. Musk has also criticized Trump’s tariffs. The comments also come as Trump prepares to send a request to Congress to claw back federal funding for things that Musk’s DOGE project has cut. The package is expected to include $1.1 billion in cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds NPR and PBS, and $8.3 billion in foreign assistance. 2. Nintendo Switch 2 floodgates open, as another user shares early walkthrough video Nintendo Switch 2 floodgates open, as another user shares early walkthrough video Yet another user has obtained a Nintendo Switch 2 well before its launch date and posted a video showing the new console’s setup process. On Wednesday, a Russian YouTube user posted a video showing the initial boot process for Switch 2, as well as an extensive tour of its system menus. As noted by other users who’ve obtained Switch 2 early, the console can’t do much more at this point, since it requires a mandatory system update in order to boot games. Today’s video shows some proof of this, with a message prompting a system update when attempting to access the Nintendo eShop, but no system update being available. The video is the latest in a flurry of leaks, as people around the world start to get their hands on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles well ahead of its official June 5 launch date. Earlier on Wednesday, a video showing someone turning on the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time appeared online. And earlier this week, a brief video of somebody unboxing Switch 2 appeared on social media, along with the first notice that it requires a mandatory update in order to boot games. It’s just over one week until the Switch 2’s global launch day. In the *** and Ireland, toy retailer Smyths has confirmed that it plans to hold midnight launches for the system in all of its stores. The Nintendo Switch 2 is due to launch on Thursday, June 5, alongside first-party titles Mario Kart World, Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and Switch 2 Editions of current-gen games such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Third-party launch games include Split Fiction, Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization VII, Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Sonic X Shadows Generations, and more. 5. The Sims 4 Weather, Climate, And Seasons Explained The Sims 4 Weather, Climate, And Seasons Explained It may be tough to believe, but The Sims 4 was out for four entire years without seasons, weather, or holidays. That changed, finally, when the Seasons expansion pack dropped in 2018–and it’s been considered the single-most essential expansion for The Sims 4 since. If you’re just diving into the worlds of The Sims 4, Seasons is the first pack you need to buy. While it’s not the most feature-packed expansion in terms of how much stuff there is to do in it, Seasons makes two fundamental additions to the world that we can’t imagine living without: dynamic weather, with each world having its own unique climate; and holidays, including the ability to make your own. Let’s look closer at the weather first. Basic Sims 4 weather tips The very first thing to keep in mind about weather in The Sims 4 is that it can have extreme consequences if you aren’t careful. Extreme hot or cold can kill your sims–they can freeze to death if they don’t wear a coat during a blizzard, or they can overheat themselves by exercising too much or hanging out near a fire when it’s really hot (I’ve literally had a sim die because the fireplace was lit in their house during a heat wave). Likewise, if they spend too much time outside during a storm they might get struck by lightning. So be careful. Beyond dressing and behaving appropriately for the weather, there are lifetime aspiration reward perks you can unlock that will help your sims deal with these effects. There are acclimation perks for hot and cold weather (500 points each) that will allow your sim to feel the effects of the extreme temperatures without being in danger from them, and you can take things all the way with the Heatproof and Iceproof perks (2000 points each) to avoid the issue entirely. The Storm Chaser perk (1000 points), which makes a sim enjoy thunderstorms rather than be scared of them, will actually make your sim more likely to be struck by lightning, but it will simply make them energized when it happens instead of causing any harm. The addition of weather in The Sims 4: Season is a literally game-changer. How to change the weather in The Sims 4 Fortunately, you are not at all at the game’s mercy when it comes to weather, as you can change the local weather whenever you want using Dr. June’s Weather Control Device, which you can buy for 1500 simoleons in build mode. Once it’s placed in your home, just click the device and pick the weather you want. How to use cheats and mods with Sims 4 weather In a rather unusual twist, there aren’t any working weather-related cheats in The Sims 4–there used to be console commands, but they don’t work anymore for some reason. But if you’re playing The Sims 4 on PC, you can use a Sims 4 mod to restore those cheats. Fortunately, it’s a mod you may already have, the immensely popular MC Command Center, which adds several utilities for granularly controlling your game world. Once you’ve installed the mod and have it running, you can click on any mailbox, select the MC Cheats option to open the MCCC menu, then select Seasons for all your weather-related choices. Sims 4 Worlds and Climates Just as on the real Earth, each region in The Sims 4 has its own climate and range of temperatures–some places are hot, some places are cold, and some places get the full spectrum of weather. Below is a description of the climate in each Sims 4 world. Willow Creek Base game Willow Creek has a climate that experiences the full range of the seasons, with very hot summers and very cold, snowy winters, with frequent precipitation all year. Oasis Springs Base game This desert locale is dry year-round, and it never gets cold–watch out for those summer heat waves. Newcrest Base game A temperate world, Newcrest experiences the full breadth of all four seasons, with warm and rainy summers and cool winters, and a chance of extreme temperatures. Magnolia Promenade Get to Work This commercial area has the same climate as Newcrest. Windenberg Get Together This Europe-inspired region has occasionally hot summers, and snowy, blizzard-filled winters. San Myshuno City Living This pastiche of major cities from around the world has a climate similar to New York City–very hot summers, very cold winters, and plenty of precipitation year-round. Forgotten Hollow Vampires This gloomy, sunless region is temperate, with temperatures ranging from hot to cold without usually going into the extremes on either end. Brindleton Bay Cats & Dogs The pets region experiences the full range of temperatures and precipitation, but is less likely to get stormy than other regions with that sort of climate. Del Sol Valley Get Famous Based on Los Angeles, Del Sol Valley has a warm, but not hot, climate for most of the year, with moderately cool winters that occasionally bring rain. StrangerVille StrangerVille This desert region stays hot pretty much year-round, with extremely hot summers in particular, and occasionally gets some rainfall during the warm winters. Sulani Island Living This Pacific-inspired region stays warm throughout the year, and is one of the only worlds to experience monsoons, which functionally are just more extreme thunderstorms. But, like Del Sol Valley, it never gets extremely hot. Glimmerbrook Realm of Magic Glimmerbrook experiences very mild summers, and frosty winters that make this magical area particularly cool to wander around in. Britechester Discover University This college town has a fairly standard climate that experiences all four seasons, with temperate summers and occasionally freezing winters, with precipitation common year-round. Evergreen Harbor Eco Lifestyle Based on cities in the USA’s Pacific Northwest like Portland, Evergreen Harbor is a temperate region with warm summers and cool winters–but it rarely experiences extreme temperatures or weather. Mt. Komorebi Snowy Escape It’s cold and snowy year-round in this mountain town, with frequent blizzards during the winter. Henford-on-Bagley Cottage Living This rural British-style town experiences the weather cycle of all four seasons, including thunderstorms in the summer and snow in the winter, but temperature extremes are very rare. Tartosa My Wedding Stories This Mediterranean area is always temperate and rarely has any weather other than general windiness and occasional rainstorms. Moonwood Mill Werewolves This Twilight-ish small town is temperate during every season but winter, which brings snowfall and cold temperatures. Copperdale High School Years You won’t see a significant range of temperatures in this town, but you will see a lot of rain, as Copperdale is one of the stormiest of the worlds of The Sims 4. San Sequoia Growing Together The Sims 4’s loose interpretation of the San Francisco Bay Area is warm, but not hot, most of the year, and experiences very mild winters without snow. Rainfall is pretty common year-round, however. Chestnut Ridge Horse Ranch This desert-style region experiences mild temperatures year round, with occasional snowfall in the winter and rain the rest of the year. Tomarang For Rent This tropical region is usually hot and frequently rainy–and, like Sulani, it can experience monsoons. Even in the winter it won’t get cold. Ciudad Enamora Lovestruck Very similar climate to Tomarang, including the possibility of monsoons. Ravenwood Life and Death There’s not much in the way of weather in Ravenwood, where it never gets particularly hot or cold and precipitation is rare. Nordhaven Businesses & Hobbies This world experiences the full cycle of seasonal changes, but summers are mild and winters are decidedly not, with snow and freezing temperatures fairly common. Granite Falls Outdoor Retreat This forest world is a rare area that has it all, from the hottest summers to the coldest winters. Rain isn’t all that common, but watch out for those blizzards in the winter. Selvadorada Jungle Adventure This world is always hot, with occasional rainstorms Batuu Journey to Batuu This Star Wars-themed world, which is more or less based on Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, has no weather cycle at all. 6. Trump nominates Emil Bove to serve as federal appellate judge Trump nominates Emil Bove to serve as federal appellate judge By Nate Raymond and Luca Fratangelo (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he was nominating Justice Department official Emil Bove, who previously defended Trump in a criminal case stemming from hush money paid to a porn star, to serve as a federal appeals court judge. Trump in a post on his social media platform Truth Social said he is nominating Bove, who serves as principal associate deputy attorney general, to serve as a life-tenured judge on the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. “He will end the Weaponization of Justice, restore the Rule of Law, and do anything else that is necessary to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump wrote. “Emil Bove will never let you down!” The announcement brought to six the number of judicial nominees the Republican president has announced in his second term in office and the second for one of the 13 federal appeals courts that sit below the U.S. Supreme Court. Trump is expected to have the chance to make more than 100 judicial nominations over the next four years, adding to the conservative stamp he made on the judiciary with 234 appointments during his first term. Bove, a former federal prosecutor, represented Trump at his criminal trial in Manhattan last year alongside Todd Blanche, who is currently deputy attorney general. Trump was convicted on charges stemming from hush money paid to a porn star, but is appealing. During the early weeks of the Trump administration, before Blanche was confirmed for his position, Bove served as acting deputy attorney general. 7. If You Already Finished Oblivion Remastered, There’s A New First-Person RPG Climbing The Steam Charts If You Already Finished Oblivion Remastered, There’s A New First-Person RPG Climbing The Steam Charts A new first-person, open-world RPG is climbing the Steam charts, and it may be a good choice for those who have already blasted through Oblivion Remastered and are looking to continue scratching that Skyrim itch. Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon is $45 and fully released on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on May 23, having been in early access since 2023. It looks to have found an audience on Steam in particular, where as of writing it’s the number three best-selling game and is only a few spots below Oblivion Remastered on the most-played charts. It also sports “Very positive” reviews on the platform. Heavily influenced by first-person RPG games like Skyrim and Oblivion, Tainted Grail takes place in a dark fantasy world inspired by Arthurian legend. It features branching storylines and morally ambiguous choices where players will shape the future of King Arthur’s now ruined kingdom, according to the game’s Steam page. Those looking for a massive open-world RPG to sink their teeth into will find plenty to do here, as the game’s Steam page states Tainted Grail is 50-70 hours long and features over 200 side quests, spread out across the game’s three distinct zones. When it comes to combat and character creation, players can freely swap between melee weapons, shields, magic, and throwable items. Developer Questline, a studio of about 50 people, makes clear that players can create various archetypes ranging from a “blacksmith-mage summoning undead hordes” to a “stealthy archer lurking in the shadows.” Just like in The Elder Scrolls, there is also crafting in the form of blacksmithing, alchemy, and cooking, as well as farming, journaling, fishing, and more. Also like Like in Elder Scrolls, Tainted Grail can technically be played in third-person, but was built for first-person in mind. Questline called the third-person option “playable but far from perfect.” The developer has already outlined some of the updates players can expect following the game’s launch, including bug fixes, mod support, and additional content. It’s also working to improve the game’s performance on Steam Deck. For those curious whether Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon could be their next life-consuming RPG, a free demo is available on both Steam and consoles. 8. What does neuroscience say about manifestation? What does neuroscience say about manifestation? First popularised by the bestselling New Age book The Secret, manifestation has remained a cultural phenomenon for decades, championed by people from Oprah Winfrey to Deepak Chopra. Advocates claim you can attract whatever you want — whether that’s a romantic partner, a new business opportunity or even a material object — by asking the universe for it and believing that it can deliver. Some practitioners propose physics-defying explanations that evoke mysterious vibrational forces to explain its effectiveness. This article is part of a special series exploring the radical potential of the human imagination. Read more here. This is clearly nonsense, but neuroscientist Sabina Brennan was nevertheless intrigued. What might be the real reason that the practices involved in manifesting can benefit people’s lives? She realised that there were several fascinating, evidence-based explanations for why such interventions can rewire the brain in ways that help you achieve what you desire. In her new book, The Neuroscience of Manifesting, Brennan unpacks some of the mechanisms behind this enduring practice. Helen Thomson: Can you start by telling me what manifestation is? Sabina Brennan: Manifesting is the practice of transforming thought into reality by visualising your goal and then developing the discipline to stay focused on and take action to achieve that goal. You can’t magically make things happen — you can’t defy physics — but you can change your reality and your future through focused action. Manifestation is easy to disregard as unscientific nonsense – why did you think differently? There are a few reasons why manifesting is dismissed by some academics. One is the misconception that manifesting is just wishful thinking rather than the… Source link #neuroscience #manifestation Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  9. Nvidia RTX 5050 GPU spotted in Acer gaming laptops, so it could arrive soon – but I’m becoming more doubtful about a desktop variant Nvidia RTX 5050 GPU spotted in Acer gaming laptops, so it could arrive soon – but I’m becoming more doubtful about a desktop variant Acer accidentally listed RTX 5050 GPUs in some gaming laptops The spilled details showed power usage and clock speeds We didn’t get any other specs shared, though, and chatter about the desktop variant of the RTX 5050 has gone quiet, too Acer has leaked the Nvidia RTX 5050 mobile GPU, giving us a glimpse of some of the key specs of this laptop graphics card. Not so long ago, Nvidia introduced RTX 5060 models (the 5060 Ti spin came first), and before those arrived, there were rumors flying around about them and the RTX 5050, too. While the RTX 5050 hasn’t been officially announced, we’ve been seeing numerous leaks about it recently. VideoCardz reports that the latest leak comes from Acer, courtesy of a list of GPU specs for Predator and Nitro gaming laptops. You may like This mentioned an RTX 5050 in quite a few of the Nitro notebooks, and I use the past tense there because Acer has caught the error and deleted the offending listings – but not before VideoCardz took a screenshot as evidence. Other sources have also taken note, so this is likely genuine – although still take it with a grain of salt, as with all rumors. We can see from this screengrab that Acer is set to offer the RTX 5050 in five different power options, ranging from 50W up to 100W, with correspondingly faster clock speeds for each, from 1500MHz up to 2550MHz. Note that there’ll also be an ‘Acer OC’ (overclocked) boost of 15W with these models, meaning the most powerful model will be able to provide 115W in a pinch. Sadly, we don’t see any specifications other than power usage and clocks, which are tied together in a direct relationship – the faster the clocks are pushed, the more wattage the GPU will consume. Analysis: A laptop RTX 5050 feels imminent – but what about the desktop model? (Image credit: Peter Hoffmann) The specs we see here don’t give us much of a clue as to how powerful the RTX 5050 will theoretically be. That said, the maximum power envelope advertised is quite substantial at 115W, but we don’t know enough about this mobile GPU to draw any definitive conclusions. Key factors will include the core count, which isn’t disclosed, and the type of video memory (VRAM) used. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. I should note that on the latter front, there were rumors that Nvidia could opt for slower GDDR6 VRAM, rather than the GDDR7 employed elsewhere with the Blackwell generation. However, more recent rumors have suggested Nvidia will stick with GDDR7 (8GB of this VRAM, which is an expected configuration for an entry-level GPU). At any rate, what this apparent mistake from Acer does indicate is that the RTX 5050 laptop graphics card could be close to arriving, otherwise it wouldn’t be popping up on spec sheets – and this is backed up by the fact that we’ve had a lot of leaks around this GPU recently. Indeed, one of those mentioned a planned launch date of Q2 for the RTX 5050, and so a June release appears to be a distinct possibility at this point. In other words, we might be seeing the revelation of the Nvidia RTX 5050 for laptops in the next week or two. What about the desktop RTX 5050? Yes, it’s rumored Nvidia is going to produce a desktop flavor of this bottom-tier Blackwell GPU, which runs counter to what happened with the previous Lovelace generation (there was no desktop RTX 4050, only a laptop variant). However, any gossip around the desktop RTX 5050 seems to have dried up, giving me pause for thought on whether Nvidia might have abandoned that idea, at least for the time being. Or maybe it was never happening in the first place; we never know with rumors. I’m really hoping Nvidia can provide a more affordable desktop GPU for budget gaming PCs this time around, though, but whether that’ll actually happen is something I’ve always been doubtful about. Simply because of how Nvidia has neglected the budget end of the graphics card spectrum in more recent times. PSVR 2 Headset Bundle Drops To $350 For A Limited Time, Matching Best-Ever Price PSVR 2 Headset Bundle Drops To $350 For A Limited Time, Matching Best-Ever Price This PSVR 2 bundle comes with the headset, two PlayStation Sense Controllers, and a pair of wired earbuds, and a USB-C cable–everything you need to connect and play on PS5. Inside the box, you’ll also find a voucher for Horizon Call of the Mountain, one of the platform’s most impressive technical showpieces. From a tech perspective, the PSVR 2 is a marked improvement over its predecessor. The the headset has 2000 x 2040 resolution OLED lenses, a 110-degree field of view, eye tracking, 90/120Hz refresh rates, four cameras, and six-axis motion sensing. PlayStation’s Sense Controllers utilize the immersive haptics and adaptive triggers found in the PS5’s DualSense Controller. It also offers 3D Audio with games that support it. The PSVR 2 isn’t wireless like Meta’s headsets, but you only need to use one USB-C cable to use it–a stark contrast to the mess of cords needed to operate the PSVR on PS4. Despite its impressive tech, the headset hasn’t garnered as wide of an audience as PlayStation likely had hoped. This is apparent when looking at the relatively small lists of upcoming games at any given time. PlayStation itself has only published a few games for the platform, though there are some notable AAA PS5 games with cool PSVR 2 modes, including Gran Turismo 7 and the Resident Evil 4 remake. That said, the PlayStation VR 2 does have a pretty big library thanks to ports of VR games from other platforms. There are over 300 games in the catalog on the PlayStation Store. But the library of available games grows exponentially if you have a VR-compatible PC and the accessory below. 12. How does the brain create imagination? How does the brain create imagination? This article is part of a special series exploring the radical potential of the human imagination. Read more here. Unlike more specialised kinds of mental processing, there is no dedicated “imagination cortex” that shows up on brain scans. Instead, imagination is the result of inputs from all corners of the brain and throughout the body. We know that imagination doesn’t come in just one variety (see “The four types of imagination and how they create our worlds”) and isn’t experienced the same by all of us (see “The extremes of imagination reveal how our brains perceive reality”). But in recent years, neuroscientists have begun to get a clearer understanding of how the components of imagination work in the brain. Advances in scanning the active brain – specifically, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) – have revealed that it is organised into several key networks. Each shares information within its network while also keeping in touch with others. This allows the brain to switch between different “modes” of thinking by selecting the right network for the job at hand. Conjuring creativity There are three key networks involved in our imaginations. The one most associated with such thought was discovered by accident in the late 1990s, when neuroscientists noticed a distinct pattern of brain activity when research participants were left waiting in fMRI scanners between tasks. Regions of the brain associated with memory, mood and self-reflection became more active when the participants weren’t occupied by a particular task, signalling an internally focused state of mind. This became known as the default mode network (DMN), and it is in play when we let… Source link #brain #create #imagination Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  14. Demand for Major Orders to Give Super Credits Intensifies Amid Illuminate Invasion Campaign Demand for Major Orders to Give Super Credits Intensifies Amid Illuminate Invasion Campaign Completion of every Major Order in Helldivers 2 rewards players with Medals, which can be used to unlock Warbond content. Players believe this reward should be better if Arrowhead Game Studios wants players to focus on the Major Orders. Two Major Orders were released simultaneously recently, but most players decided to focus on the DSS-focused Major Order because more players enjoy the Automaton missions. Since the Illuminate Major Order was neglected, the faction could take over multiple megacities on Super Earth. The DSS is active once again, but the Illuminate is taking over Super-Earth at an alarming rate. The loss of all seven megacities would mean the end of Super Earth. It will be a close battle, as Helldivers have managed to weaken the Illuminate Fleet significantly. Helldivers 2 players believe that completing Major Orders should reward players with Super Credits After contributing to the Major Order, Helldivers 2 players get Medals as rewards, which can be used to acquire items from the Warbonds. However, players believe this is insufficient to convince them to focus on the Major Orders. A viral post on r/helldivers2 highlighted that giving players Super Credits would boost their performance. However, many players pointed out that Super Credits is one of Arrowhead Game Studios’ ways of generating revenue from the game. Plus, Super Credits can be found on maps, and enough grinding allows players to get enough Super Credits to unlock Warbonds for free. However, apart from Medals, there must be more rewards to motivate the players. The current Major Order is asking players to defend Super Earth, which is quite possibly the most intense battle in the game’s history. Giving players just 75 Warbond Medals for it just doesn’t justify it. Not just currency, but Major Orders could also give players unique patterns or armors. Super Earth has lost five major megacities Illuminate has captured five megacities on Super Earth (Image via Arrowhead Game Studios) The Illuminate’s new fleet emerged right out of the Meridian Singularity and managed to reach Super Earth. The attack began with Eagleopolis, and now, Illuminate has managed to capture five out of seven megacities. Helldivers are outnumbered as they are struggling to stop this fleet, which includes some new enemies like Fleshmob and Stingrays. If the faction takes over the final two megacities, Super Earth will be finished. The Second Galactic War is slowly getting intense, but this has raised the anticipation among the fans who are waiting for the Helldivers 2 movie. Sony has confirmed that a movie based on the franchise is in development, but it will certainly fail if it doesn’t feature the infamous battle of Malevelon Creek. As for the ongoing battle, the Illuminate Fleet Strength is currently below 25%, and players have about two days and sixteen hours to eradicate this fleet. There is not a lot of time, so all players should focus on the Illuminate instead of other factions, Automatons, or Terminids. 15. ‘******** to Mention God’: Cuban Pastor and Wife Detained, Facing 8 Years in Prison ‘******** to Mention God’: Cuban Pastor and Wife Detained, Facing 8 Years in Prison Cuban authorities are seeking to imprison a pastor and his wife for eight years simply because they invoked their religious beliefs during a military tribunal, according to a religious freedom watchdog group. Pastor Luis Guillermo Borjas and his wife, Roxana Rojas, were detained last week in a Cuban jail after they were charged with the crimes of disrespect and disobeying the authorities, according to the U.K.-based group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW). The couple, who are affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination which has legal approval to operate in Cuba, initially appeared in court after being summoned for a military tribunal for their son. ***Please sign up for CBN Newsletters to ensure you receive the latest updates from a distinctly Christian perspective.*** Kevin Laureido Rojas had run away from a military facility after having been taken by force to perform the military service that is required of all Cuban males at the age of 18, despite having a medical exemption. The couple had presented court documents from a medical commission that outlined that their son had a psychiatric condition that made him unfit to join the military. “When the military prosecutor accused the couple of lying and presenting false evidence, Pastor Borjas protested, stating that the officials in the court would be accountable to ‘God’s justice’. The prosecutor then ordered the couple to be detained and charged, claiming that it is ******** to mention God or God’s justice in a military tribunal,” explained CSW in a press release. The prosecutor has requested that they be sentenced to eight years in prison. A trial for the couple is set for June 9th, but CSW is pleading with Cuban authorities for their release. The group reports that Rojas has a heart condition and was taken to hospital, unconscious, on the same night he was detained. Additionally, hospital reports reveal that Rojas was harassed by a young man in civilian clothes who falsely claimed to be a nurse. “CSW calls on the Cuban authorities to immediately drop the criminal charges against Pastors Luis Guillermo Borjas and Roxana Rojas, and to release Pastor Borjas from detention,” CSW’s Director of Advocacy Anna Lee Stangl said. “It is unacceptable that a simple reference to their religious beliefs in response to the military’s unjust treatment of their family should be criminalized, and even more unconscionable that the government would seek an eight-year prison sentence. CSW urges the international community to press the Cuban government to uphold the often intersecting rights to freedom of expression and freedom of religion or belief for all,” she continued. The ********** country is number 26 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2025, which ranks the countries where Christians face the most extreme persecution. Cuba has ranked higher on the list in the past, and Open Doors cites the only reason it has lowered is because persecution has worsened in other countries. “Cuba’s humanitarian crisis grew worse this year, as mass protests against the government’s repressive regime continued and action against dissidents increased. Church leaders and Christian activists who speak out against human rights abuses and support protestors are still targeted. These leaders often face hostility, including arbitrary arrest,” World Watch List explains on their website. Cuban Pastor Lorenzo Rosales Fajardo spent more than three years in prison for protesting the ********** nation’s human rights violations, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. Cuban authorities detained Rosales Fajardo after he joined thousands of Cubans protesting the ********** regime’s treatment of its citizens. The pastor of Monte de Sion Independent Church in Palma Soriano, Cuba, was sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted on charges of criminal incitement, assault, public disorder, and disrespect. Rosales Fajardo was released along with 553 political prisoners after the Biden administration agreed to remove Cuba from the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list. Last September, The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) reported that authorities “beat him and treated him in a violent and humiliating manner” following his arrest. 16. You Can Buy A Replica Of Ellie’s Guitar From The Last Of Us Season 2 You Can Buy A Replica Of Ellie’s Guitar From The Last Of Us Season 2 Music is a major element of The Last of Us, both the video game and the HBO TV series based on it. In the newest season of the show, we see more of how Joel built Ellie’s guitar and gifted it to her on a birthday. It was a tender, special moment, and if you want to own a similar guitar, iconic guitar manufacturer Taylor has created a replica of it–but it’ll cost you. The guitar sells for $2,800 before tax, but it does come with a hardshell case and a lifetime warranty. Taylor is known for making a premium product, and this replica looks no different. The Last of Us guitar. Gallery The replica was designed in partnership with the team from HBO and features the custom moth inlay on the third fret, matching the design of the guitar on the show. The guitars are made to order, so anyone with deep enough pockets to buy one will have to wait 6-10 weeks to get it. “This acoustic-only model features a solid Sitka spruce top and solid sapele back and sides, delivering a clear, warm, balanced voice with appealing midrange presence,” Taylor said. “Additional appointments include grained ivoroid body binding, grained ivoroid fretboard inlays that include the moth and large dot position markers, and a custom double-ring rosette also in grained ivoroid.” This isn’t the first time that Taylor has made a Last of Us guitar, as the company produced a Last of Us guitar to help promote The Last of Us: Part II in 2020. This version was similar in design but was based on the Taylor 314ce model and sold for $2,300. Taylor also produced a $700 GS Mini guitar with striking Last of Us art on it. HBO’s The Last of Us recently concluded its second season, capping things off with major drama. A third season is now on the way, and it’s going to focus on Abby’s story. No new The Last of Us games have been announced, but Naughty Dog is working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and at least one other game. 17. Five arrested over protests at London filming Five arrested over protests at London filming Five protesters have been arrested after they allegedly targeted the filming of Gal Gadot’s new movie in central London. Demonstrators have disrupted filming at various locations across London in recent weeks, the Metropolitan Police said. The force said the film was targeted “solely because an actress involved in the production is Israeli”. The ************ Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel (Pacbi) has previously said Gadot films should be boycotted, claiming she has shown support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. Gadot’s agent has been approached for comment. The 40-year-old actress, who has been vocal in her support of Israel, is believed to currently be filming action thriller The Runner. Police were deployed to a filming location in Westminster on Wednesday to identify suspects wanted in connection with offences at earlier protests and to deal with any new offences, Scotland Yard said. Five people were arrested on suspicion of harassment and offences under Section 241 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act, which deals with wrongfully and unlawfully obstructing access to a workplace. They remain in custody. Two of the arrests relate to incidents at previous protests while three relate to alleged offences that took place on Wednesday, the force said. Supt Neil Holyoak said: “While we absolutely acknowledge the importance of peaceful protest, we have a duty to intervene where it crosses the line into serious disruption or criminality. “We have been in discussions with the production company to understand the impact of the protests on their work and on any individuals involved. “I hope today’s operation shows we will not tolerate the harassment of or unlawful interference with those trying to go about their legitimate professional work in London.” Source link #arrested #protests #London #filming Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  18. The Worst New Gen Halo Game Reportedly Had the Same Budget as Red Dead Redemption 2 The Worst New Gen Halo Game Reportedly Had the Same Budget as Red Dead Redemption 2 Gamers would agree that Halo is one of the most influential gaming franchises of all time. Ever since Combat Evolved was released in 2001, the series has fundamentally changed how first-person shooters operate. However, it’s fair to say that in recent years, Halo has lost its charm. 343 Industries’ takeover of the Halo franchise didn’t exactly produce the results everyone had hoped for. From design mistakes to missed opportunities, the studio couldn’t capture the essence of the Halo franchise. What’s even more shocking is that it produced the franchise’s most hated game, which had a budget comparable to that of Red Dead Redemption 2. Despite a massive budget Halo 5: Guardians failed hard It’s fair to say that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most impressive video games ever crafted. Its world is massive, hugely populated, and realistic. Seriously, NPCs can greet, assault, and even threaten you. There are tons of side activities to dive into, and even the main narrative is quite long and hard-hitting. As you’d expect, such a game is not cheap to develop. According to Argentics, it has been estimated that Red Dead Redemption 2 cost Rockstar Games approximately $206 million. Considering the title’s commercial success and the number of copies it has shipped since its release, it’s fair to say that Rockstar has recouped its investment in this game. However, the same can’t be said for 343 Industries and Halo 5: Guardians. Right upon its release, Guardians received a lot of backlash as it lacked basic core features of the franchise, such as split-screen. The game’s campaign was short and took some weird turns that ruined popular characters such as Cortana. What’s worse is that players are forced to play the title as Spartan Locke, not Master Chief. How much did this disaster cost 343 Industries to develop? It has been reported that the budget for this game was anywhere between $160 million and $200 million. If it had almost the same budget as Red Dead Redemption 2, why did Guardians fail to deliver? Red Dead Redemption 2 was a masterpiece. (Image via Rockstar Games) Well, it’s probably due to 343 Industries wasting the entirety of that budget on making promotional material that wasn’t even connected to the narrative, such as the “Hunt The Truth” trailers. 343 Industries simply failed to focus on the main gameplay and instead delivered a title that ruined the franchise and its player base. Halo might arrive on PlayStation with a catch Halo’s PS5 port might come with a twist. (Image via Microsoft) 343 Industries has come a long way since the failure of Guardians. It has renamed itself to Halo Studios and abandoned the in-house SlipSpace Engine in favor of Unreal Engine 5. Microsoft is ushering in a new era for the franchise and aims to make Halo the dominant gaming IP once again. In the last couple of weeks, we’ve also heard rumors suggesting that Halo could make its way to PlayStation 5 in the future. This move doesn’t seem surprising considering Microsoft’s decision to release games such as Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the Sony console. However, in a recent episode of The Xbox Two Podcast, Tom Warren revealed that while Halo is coming to consoles such as PlayStation, it might not be in the form of a collection like the Master Chief Collection. Warren suggests that not all titles may be included and places doubt about a full package release. Warren also touched upon the rumors regarding the Combat Evolved remake. While the title did receive a remaster in 2011, many fans believe that it didn’t live up to the impressive Halo 2 Anniversary edition. The decision to bring the title to other platforms has reportedly diminished since the Halo Studios rebrand. With that said, why do you think Halo 5: Guardians failed? 21. Do you rely on your monthly Social Security check to get by? Do you rely on your monthly Social Security check to get by? Consolidated News Photos/Shutterstock Moneywise and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue through links in the content below. Many Americans are heavily reliant — even solely reliant — on their Social Security benefit to get by in retirement. More than half of non-retired Americans (53%) expect to rely on their benefit to “pay their necessary expenses once they retire,” according to a survey from Bankrate. This includes 28% of Americans who expect to be “very reliant.” Of those already retired, 77% say they rely on Social Security for necessary expenses. President Trump has promised to protect Social Security, but has also floated the idea of cutting taxes on Social Security benefits. This means baby boomers could get a bump in the short term, but experts predict this could speed up its insolvency. So, no matter what happens (or doesn’t happen), it may be a good time to take control of the reins for your retirement. Here are three money moves you can consider that will possibly provide more financial stability in retirement and reduce your reliance on Social Security. Some financial experts, like founder of Financial Samurai Sam Dogen, say you should aim to max out your tax-advantaged retirement vehicles. “Hopefully, it’s something that becomes automatic, and you’re not going to touch it until you’re 59½,” he said to CNBC. This will help you set yourself up for a comfortable retirement. However, as Dave Ramsey’s Ramsey Solutions points out, you should avoid doing this if you’re still getting out of debt, don’t have money saved for emergencies or are saving up for other financial goals. Only 15% of private sector workers had access to a defined benefit retirement plan as of 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. 67% have access to a defined contribution plan, such as a 401(k). For those who don’t have access to either, there are other options available to help you save. For example, an individual retirement account (IRA) is a tax-advantaged savings account that can help you save for retirement. With a traditional IRA, contributions are tax-deductible; you pay taxes upon withdrawal – ideally when you’re in a lower tax bracket. With a Roth IRA, you pay the taxes upfront, but investment growth and withdrawals are tax-free once you reach age 59½. For 2025, the contribution limit is capped at $7,000 (or, if you’re 50+, at $8,000), and you have until Tax Day in April to top it up. Priority Gold is an industry leader in precious metals, offering physical delivery of gold and silver. Plus, they have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and a 5-star rating from Trust Link. If you’d like to convert an existing IRA into a gold IRA, Priority Gold offers 100% free rollover, as well as free shipping, and free storage for up to five years. Qualifying purchases will also receive up to $10,000 in free silver. In 2017, the Trump Administration passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). While this law is complex, it essentially provided for a number of tax breaks and deductions, many of which are scheduled to sunset in 2025. However, President Trump has said he plans to extend these tax cuts. In the meantime, it may make sense for you to convert a tax-deferred retirement account into a Roth IRA if you expect the tax rate on the converted amount to be higher in the future. “One reason to consider a Roth conversion this year or next: Without further action from Congress, tax rates are set to rise with the sunsetting of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act at the end of 2025,” according to Fidelity. “Although the new administration and many Congressional Republicans support an extension of the current lower tax rates, record debt and deficits could complicate a full extension.” “In the meantime, a Roth conversion at current lower rates could reduce taxes on the conversion, and allow for qualified distributions in retirement that are tax-free.” This should be done over time so you don’t end up getting bumped into a higher tax bracket. Whether this strategy is right for you depends on your financial situation, so it’s worth talking to a financial advisor about your options for capitalizing on lower taxes. With Vanguard, you can connect with a personal advisor who can help assess how you’re doing so far and make sure you’ve got the right portfolio to meet your goals on time. Vanguard’s hybrid advisory system combines advice from professional advisers and automated portfolio management to make sure your investments are working to achieve your financial goals. All you have to do is fill out a brief questionnaire about your financial goals, and Vanguard’s advisers will help you set a tailored plan, and stick to it. Once you’re set, you can sit back as Vanguard’s advisors manage your portfolio. Because they’re fiduciaries, they don’t earn commissions, so you can trust that the advice you’re getting is unbiased. Read more: You’re probably already overpaying for this 1 ‘must-have’ expense — and thanks to Trump’s tariffs, your monthly bill could soar even higher. Here’s how 2 minutes can protect your wallet right now Even with Medicare, retired Americans can expect to spend a chunk of money on healthcare throughout their golden years. Medicare doesn’t cover premiums or deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs, nor does it cover long-term care. For example, a 65-year-old retiring in 2024 can expect to spend an average of $165,000 in health care and medical expenses throughout retirement, according to Fidelity’s annual Retiree Health Care Cost Estimate. Unfortunately, Fidelity research found the average American estimates these costs will be about $75,000 — less than half the amount it calculated. If you’re relying on Social Security to get by, unexpected medical costs could leave you stretched thin. One way to save for these additional costs in retirement is to enroll in an eligible High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and open a Health Savings Account (HSA). An HSA has three big tax benefits: contributions are tax-deductible, the money can be spent tax-free for qualifying healthcare expenses and any investment growth in your account is tax-free. You cannot contribute to your HSA once you enroll in Medicare at age 65, so you may want to max out contributions to your HSA until then. “While your HSA can’t pay your premiums, it exists as an emergency fund for health care, and maxing it out can leave you better prepared for large out-of-pocket medical bills,” says Experian author Emily Starbuck Gerson. “There is a risk of saving more than you need, and later wanting that money for other purposes. You can’t withdraw that money penalty-free until after age 65, and even then, you’ll still owe taxes on non-qualified expenses.” Many people combine the benefits of an HSA with a traditional health insurance policy to manage their health care expenses. 22. EA Cancels ****** Panther Game, Closes Its Developer, And Lays Off Additional Staff EA Cancels ****** Panther Game, Closes Its Developer, And Lays Off Additional Staff Electronic Arts has confirmed it’s cancelling its upcoming ****** Panther game and closing its developer. Cliffhanger Games, which was only opened in 2023 to make the ****** Panther game, is now shuttered. EA previously signed a deal with Marvel for multiple games, and an Iron Man title is still coming. EA boss Laura Miele said in a memo obtained by IGN that the company is cancelling the game and closing the studio to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.” EA’s ****** Panther game is not going forward. Additionally, EA is laying off staff on its mobile and “central” teams, though the exact number of affected staff is unknown. This follows on from a previous round of layoffs in April that affected around 300 people and led to the reported cancellation of a Titanfall game. “These decisions are hard,” Miele said in a memo to staff. “They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them– including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.” In 2024, EA laid off nearly 700 people and said it wasn’t sure how much more it would invest in licensed IP going forward. Due to this commentary, some wondered if any of EA’s Marvel projects would be affected. EA previously signed a multi-game deal with Marvel, and now, the only confirmed project from that partnership is a new Iron Man game from Motive Studio. When the deal was announced, EA said it covered at least three games. Cliffhanger was led by Kevin Stephens, who oversaw the production of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War at Monolith Productions. He joined EA in 2021. Other members of the team at Cliffhanger worked on Halo, God of War, and Call of Duty. It is unknown how far along in development the ****** Panther game was. When the game and the studio were announced in 2023, EA said the game was “still in early development with a long road ahead.” EA and Cliffhanger were attempting to make what they said was a “definitive and authentic ****** Panther experience.” Outside of EA’s superhero games, Warner Bros. was making a Wonder Woman game based on the iconic DC character, but that game was also canceled. Going forward, Miele said that EA would focus on Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends, while development will continue on Iron Man and the next Star Wars: Jedi game. EA’s mobile game projects remain intact, while BioWare continues to make the next Mass Effect as well. And of course, EA’s sports catalog will continue as well, including EA Sports FC, Madden, College Football, and NHL. Despite all of EA’s recent layoffs and closures, the company’s headcount continues to grow. As of March 2025, EA had more than 800 additional people on staff than it did the same time a year prior. EA is making these dramatic cuts and closures as the company rakes in money. For the last three months alone, EA pulled in $1.9 billion in revenue and made a profit of $254 million. For the latest fiscal year, however, EA’s revenue slid from $7.562 billion to $7.463 billion, with net profit falling from $1.273 billion to $1.121 billion. 24. All Skills In The Sims 4 And How To Improve Them All Skills In The Sims 4 And How To Improve Them One of the core pieces of gameplay in The Sims 4 is skills–you know, the stuff that your sims are good at. As it is in our world, there are tons of skills that every sim can hypothetically learn over the course of their lives, and every new expansion adds a small pile of new ones. It can be a lot to keep track of; even folks who’ve been playing The Sims 4 since launch have probably forgotten about some of these. There are more than four dozen skills that adult sims are able to learn at this point, and that’s not even counting the many Sims 4 mods that add more. Every skill in The Sims 4 has related activities that you can do to learn them, but there are also universal methods. There are several aspiration rewards you can take that will make your sim gain skills faster–Night Owl and Morning Sim will increase your skill gains at night and in the morning, respectively, and Savant will give you a 25% boost to all skill gains permanently. Every skill also has corresponding skill books you can read to jumpstart your skill gains, though you won’t be able to max out any skill just by reading about it–learning theory will only take you so far. Likewise, you can learn skills by taking college classes, or by using a research terminal at a library. But eventually you’ll have to practice for real. Gardening is one of the dozens of skills your sims can learn in The Sims 4. And that’s why we’re making this list. 25. Brazilian butt-lift injector banned from carrying out cosmetic procedures Brazilian butt-lift injector banned from carrying out cosmetic procedures Shona Elliott BBC News Investigations BBC News Ricky Sawyer was found by a BBC investigation to be performing risky BBL treatments A self-styled “beauty consultant” who specialises in liquid Brazilian butt-lifts (BBLs) has been banned from carrying out any form of cosmetic surgery across England and Wales following a BBC investigation. Ricky Sawyer was found to be performing risky BBL treatments – which involve injecting up to 1,000ml of dermal filler into clients’ buttocks to make them look *******. He was exposed while working in a rented office block in London, performing dangerous procedures and handing over medication illegally. The BBC’s findings were submitted to Manchester Civil Justice Centre as part of a civil action brought forward by Trafford Council. On Wednesday a judge granted an injunction against Mr Sawyer, banning him from carrying out or arranging cosmetic surgeries in England and Wales until 27 May 2028. ‘Shocking suffering’ The court heard evidence that included video footage from the BBC’s original documentary, and graphic pictures of one of Mr Sawyer’s client’s injuries. James Parry, the lawyer who brought the case on behalf of Trafford Council, told the judge that the injuries were akin to that of “serious knife crime”. Mr Parry later told the BBC: “I think that the level of injury that people have suffered and have produced evidence of their suffering of is quite shocking.” Judge McAdam, in granting the injunction, agreed that the images were “shocking” and concluded that the breadth of the order was necessary to prevent further public harm. The injunction prohibits Mr Sawyer from undertaking or facilitating any invasive cosmetic procedures, including but not limited to the BBL, anywhere in England and Wales. It also bars him from possessing related surgical equipment or any antibiotics typically used in such treatments, unless prescribed for his own use. The court attached a power of arrest to key clauses in the order, meaning police may arrest Mr Sawyer without a warrant if he is found to be in breach of its terms. Mr Sawyer has been given 21 days to challenge the injunction. Contributor Ashley was admitted to hospital after undergoing a BBL by Mr Sawyer The BBC has heard testimony from nearly 40 women who reported serious complications, including sepsis and necrosis, after undergoing procedures by Mr Sawyer. Ashley, 27, attended one of Mr Sawyer’s pop-up clinics last spring, and said she was drawn to Mr Sawyer by his low prices and celebrity endorsements. She travelled from her home in Liverpool to London and was directed to an office block. Despite misgivings about the location, she decided to go through with it. She said that after the injections started the pain was instant. “I nearly fainted” she said. At one point Ashley turned around and saw Mr Sawyer covered in blood. “He butchered me, there is no other word for it.” Ashley said she left the clinic barely able to walk and covered in blood. Three days later, she was rushed to hospital with an infection and told she could have died without treatment. While Ashely has made a full recovery her voice still shakes when she recounts the experience at Mr Sawyer’s hands. Reacting to Wednesday’s court proceedings, Ashley said: “I am relieved, it makes me feel that we’re being taken seriously.” Several councils have banned Mr Sawyer from practising in their areas. And since the BBC documentary aired three further councils – Trafford, Salford and Manchester – have also banned him. Trafford Council said it would continue to monitor compliance with the injunction and encouraged anyone with information about unlawful cosmetic procedures to come forward.
