A Ukrainian medic fell in love with a soldier on the front. They ***** together in a Russian *******
A crowd of mourners lit torches and intoned a military chant to honor a Ukrainian medic and a soldier who fell in love on the frontline and ***** together in a Russian shell *******.
Valentyna Nahorna, whose call sign was Valkyrie, volunteered as a medic at the start of the war in Ukraine.
She and Daniil Liashkevych, known as Berserk, fell in love just a few months ago, their friends and comrades say, but it helped them endure the war. They both worked in the 3rd ******** Brigade, and were ******* Nov. 4.
Their funerals were held on Friday at Kyiv ’s crematorium, a cavernous and grimly modern building often used for funerals of the war *****.
Those gathered gave the chant that Ukrainian soldiers learn by heart when they first start training: “***** with *****, life-giving, the weakness in my heart. Let me know no *****, nor doubt.”
Kostyl, who like many Ukrainian soldiers agreed to be identified only by his call sign, said meeting Valkyrie helped Berserk emerge from a dark time in his life.
“He finally had a soulmate who also wanted to ****** with him and be as close to the war as possible, But this was their last time together, and no one is safe from that,” Kostyl said.
Dvyetshnik, a 3rd Brigade soldier who knew the medic better than her soldier companion, described her as fearless and willing to learn anything.
“If Valkyrie was very sincere in her emotions and thus added a beautiful chaos, Berserk was a real warrior,” he said. “They were a perfect complement to each other.”

Trillium offers 4x training boost, 3x inference improvement over TPU v5e
Enhanced HBM and ICI bandwidth for LLM support
Scales up to 256 chips per pod, ideal for extensive AI tasks
Google Cloud has unleashed its latest TPU, Trillium, the sixth-generation model in its custom AI chip lineup, designed to power advanced AI workloads.
First announced back in May 2024, Trillium is engineered to handle large-scale training, tuning, and inferencing with improved performance and cost efficiency.
The release forms part of Google Cloud’s AI Hypercomputer infrastructure, which integrates TPUs, GPUs, and CPUs alongside open software to meet the increasing demands of generative AI.
A3 Ultra VMs arriving soon
Trillium promises significant improvements over its predecessor, TPU v5e, with over a 4x boost in training performance and up to a 3x increase in inference throughput. Trillium delivers twice the HBM capacity and doubled Interchip Interconnect (ICI) bandwidth, making it particularly suited to large language models like Gemma 2 and Llama, as well as compute-heavy inference applications, including diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion XL.
Google is keen to stress Trillium’s focus on energy efficiency as well, with a claimed 67% increase compared to previous generations.
Google says its new TPU has demonstrated substantially improved performance in benchmark testing, delivering a 4x increase in training speeds for models such as Gemma 2-27b and Llama2-70B. For inference tasks, Trillium achieved 3x greater throughput than TPU v5e, particularly excelling in models that demand extensive computational resources.
Scaling is another strength of Trillium, according to Google. The TPU can link up to 256 chips in a single, high-bandwidth pod, expandable to thousands of chips within Google’s Jupiter data center network, providing near-linear scaling for extensive AI training tasks. With Multislice software, Trillium maintains consistent performance across hundreds of pods.
Tied in with the arrival of Trillium, Google also announced the A3 Ultra VMs featuring Nvidia H200 Tensor Core GPUs. Scheduled for preview this month they will offer Google Cloud customers a high-performance GPU option within the tech giant’s AI infrastructure.

Lions ****** past Hawks into AFLW prelim
Lions ****** past Hawks into AFLW prelim
Reigning premiers Brisbane are straight through to another AFLW preliminary final after claiming a six-point away qualifying win over a gutsy Hawthorn.
But Brisbane will nervously await the match review officer’s assessment of Belle Dawes’ front-on contact on Hawk Ainslie Kemp early in the second quarter.
The Lions will host the winner of next week’s semi-final between Adelaide and Fremantle for a place in a sixth grand final after fighting back from an 11-point second-quarter deficit to win 6.2 (38) to 4.8 (32) in front of 4985 fans at Ikon Park.
Daniel Webster’s Hawks next face the winner of Sunday evening’s elimination final between Richmond and Port Adelaide in a home semi-final.
Craig Starcevich’s Lions will enjoy a week off before their fifth preliminary final but could have to prepare for a potential rough conduct charge to Dawes.
The **** midfielder was running full-throttle towards Kemp when she attempted to pull out of a tackle but instead crashed straight into the defender.
Kemp required treatment but was able to jog to the Hawthorn bench before passing her concussion assessment.
The umpire didn’t award a free kick at the time.
Hawk Aileen Gilroy won a holding-the-ball free kick for a fierce tackle on Brisbane’s Cathy Svarc in the first term, but it could attract attention given she drove the Lion into the ground.
Svarc (two goals) was excellent, Ally Anderson (17 disposals, 13 contested possessions) grew into the game while Orla O’Dwyer (17 disposals) and defenders Bre Koenen, Nat Grider and Jennifer Dunne were also among the Lions’ best.
Hawthorn skipper and ex-Lion Emily Bates (22 disposals) led from the front, with help from Eliza West (19 touches) and ***** youngster Jas Fleming (17 disposals), while Mattea Breed had an entertaining duel with Anderson.
Brisbane drew first blood through Dakota Davidson before the first quarter proved an arm wrestle.
Hawthorn’s Aine McDonagh capitalised on some loose Lions defending to help the Hawks ******* a four-point lead at quarter-time.
Kaitlyn Ashmore extended Hawthorn’s lead with a wonderful snap midway through the second term.
The Lions responded in the third term, hitting the front through back to-back goals to Svarc and Taylor Smith.
When Davidson goaled early in the final term, the Lions led by 12.
Louise Stephenson cut the deficit to less than a goal to make for a nervous finish but the Lions held on, while Fleming limped off late.

Father and daughter win $58,000 in lawsuit against man who claimed Manchester Arena ******** was hoax
LONDON (AP) — A father and daughter crippled by a ******** bomber who ******* 22 people after an Ariana Grande concert in England in 2017 were awarded 45,000 pounds ($58,000) Friday in a case against a former television producer who claimed the tragedy was a hoax.
Martin Hibbert and his daughter, Eve, won their harassment suit in the High Court in London last month against Richard Hall for videos, a film and a book he produced that falsely claim the Manchester Arena ******** was staged using actors and no one was wounded or *******.
Hall, an independent producer, had claimed “millions of people have bought a lie” about the ******* and defended his work, including surreptitiously filming the daughter, as journalism in the public’s interest.
Justice Karen Steyn called Hall’s conduct a “negligent, indeed reckless, ****** of media freedom.” She said he used the “flimsiest of analytical techniques” to dismiss “the obvious, tragic reality to which so many ordinary people have attested.”
Salman Abedi blew himself up with a ***** hidden in a knapsack as fans were leaving the Grande concert on May 22, 2017. In addition to those *******, more than 260 people were wounded and hundreds of others were left with “deep psychological injuries,” police said.
Martin Hibbert was paralyzed from the waist down and his daughter, who was 14 at the time, nearly ***** and has severe brain damage.
The Hibbert’s also won an injunction preventing Hall from further harassment, and Hall will have to pay 90% of their legal costs that are currently estimated at 260,000 pounds ($335,000).
The award, however, is meager compared to many won in U.S. lawsuits. In a case that also involved denying a major tragedy, *********** theorist Alex Jones was ordered to pay $1.5 billion to parents of children ******* at Sandy ***** Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012 for falsely claiming it was a hoax.
Martin Hibbert said that he never expects to see a penny of the award, but the victory wasn’t about money.
“What this was about was bringing him down in public, in front of his own followers, that’s what I’ve done,” he said outside court.
Hall said the trial was unfair and continued to insist the ******** didn’t happen as he left the court.

Warning as workers thrown off revamped compo scheme
Warning as workers thrown off revamped compo scheme
Restricting Victoria’s workers compensation scheme has kicked hundreds of them off payments within months and sparked a $565 million turnaround.
Changes to the WorkCover scheme to restrict eligibility and increase testing requirements in a bid to curtail skyrocketing costs came into effect at the end of March.
The scheme recorded a $389 million profit in 2023/24 after posting a $176 million loss across the previous financial year, WorkSafe’s annual report shows.
That result was $1.22 billion higher than the target, with reduced claims expenses cited as a contributing factor.
The Community and Public Sector Union accused the Labor state government of “profiteering” off injured Victorians, after The Age reported 726 workers had their financial support withdrawn in the first four months since the rules changed.
“The financial turnaround in only a few months confirms the changes went too far,” the union’s Victorian branch secretary Karen Batt said.
“I estimate that from June until the end of 2024 another 1600 workers with accepted claims will come up for assessment.
“And if the percentage thrown off the scheme runs the same that’ll see another 1200 injured workers who will not be entitled to continued support.”
Under the changes, workers suffering stress and burnout are no longer be able to access weekly WorkCover benefits but can still receive up to 13 weeks of provisional payments to cover medical treatments and services.
Workers receiving payments beyond two-and-a-half years now have to undergo another impairment test to determine if they are unable to work indefinitely and meet a “whole person impairment” of more than 20 per cent.
In the face of staunch opposition to the bill from unions and the crossbench, Labor did a deal with the coalition to freeze premiums for businesses for one year to secure its passage through parliament.
Some 98,000 Victorians received WorkCover support in 2022/23 and taxpayers had topped up the scheme with an extra $1.3 billion to offset rising costs.
WorkSafe Minister Danny Pearson said 33,000 injured workers were currently receiving weekly payments, with 26,000 returning to work last financial year.
“The way in which (the scheme) was previously constructed cost business a fortune, it cost the government a fortune and it made injured workers sicker,” he said.
He suggested it was too early to tell if there were any “unintended consequences” that needed to be fixed.
“I appreciate that this is four months’ worth of data,” Mr Pearson said.
“But we need to allow for the time for the scheme to … recalibrate and that will take some time to work its way through the system.”
A panel of independent experts will consider the impact of the reforms in 2027 as part of a statutory review.

The 11 Best Luxury SUVs to Buy Right Now
The 11 Best Luxury SUVs to Buy Right Now
Back in 1975, the then all-new Porsche 911 Turbo, with its voluptuous flared fenders and whale-tail rear spoiler, set the benchmark for automotive performance. Powered by a 3.0-liter, air-cooled turbocharged flat-six engine developing 260 hp, it could sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 5.5 seconds. Only sports cars were supposed to be capable of feats like these, but four decades later there are a number of SUVs that can best those numbers with ease.
Lavish people haulers dominate the current market, doing so with engines that easily double that early Porsche’s output while being able to blast from zero to 60 mph more than two seconds quicker. Put that original 911 Turbo up against, say, the all-electric, 830 hp GMC ******* SUV, and it would be left in the dust. Today’s coolest, fastest, most powerful, and utilitarian performance machines are SUVs. And unlike the 911 Turbo and its modern-day equivalent, they might even be happy in the dirt. Here are our top 11 models in the class.

Best Overall: Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
The very definition of a hot-rod, luxury SUV is Porsche’s insanely rapid Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe. Adding to the 4.0-liter power and rear-biased all-wheel drive is Porsche’s brilliance at making things go fast. And the best news? Arriving this summer is a primped and preened Turbo GT with max power upped to 650 hp, the capability of zero-to-60 mph sprinting in 3.1 seconds, and a top speed that’s just a whisker under 190 mph. This 2024 GT is still only offered as a ******-back coupe, but the front end has had a makeover that includes a new hood and fender design with Taycan-style ***********. Go-fast features include a new air suspension, standard carbon-ceramic composite brakes, and rear-axle steering. If it wasn’t the performance SUV benchmark before, this latest variant surely will be.

Best Looking: Aston Martin DBX707
Best Looking: Aston Martin DBX707
Runner-up in Robb Report’s 2023 Car of the Year showdown, Aston Martin’s 697 hp DBX707 has one superlative claim to fame; it’s simply the world’s most powerful super-luxe, non-electrified SUV. Powered by an AMG-massaged 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the posh and refined vehicle makes its brutal personality known the instant you stand on the gas and rush from standstill to 60 mph in a blistering 3.1 seconds. And you don’t stop rushing until the speedometer’s needle is kissing the 193 mph mark. The DBX707’s rock-out-of-a-catapult acceleration is matched by truly dynamic handling, with a poise, balance, and agility that’s normally reserved for Aston Martin’s sports cars. And, of course, no other performance SUV looks this gorgeous.

Best Value: Audi RS Q8
Best Value: Audi RS Q8
A Lamborghini Urus for half the price? That’s the appeal of Audi’s flagship SUV, the 591 hp RS Q8. Powered by pretty much the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 you’ll find under the hood of the Raging Bull’s SUV (Lamborghini’s Urus S makes 657 hp), the super-fast RS Q8 can hit 60 mph from zero in just 3.7 seconds and top out at a limited 155 mph. And its 590 ft lbs of torque gives the big-grilled Audi simply astonishing mid-range thrust. Make no mistake, this is a true supercar SUV with a soundtrack to match. It also handles beautifully, aided by adaptive air suspension and RS-specific damper tuning, laser-precise steering, and pizza-sized ceramic stoppers that span 17.3-inches in the front. Think of the Audi RS Q8 as a velvet-covered hammer on 23-inch rims.

Best Luxury Features: Bentley Bentayga Speed
Best Luxury Features: Bentley Bentayga Speed
Presenting the mighty Bentley Bentayga Speed and its potent, twin-turbocharged W-12 with 626 hp. The only other 12-**** luxury SUV you can buy these days has the Spirit of Ecstasy on its bow, and that’s built for comfort rather than speed. And speed is what this Bentayga delivers in spades; zero to 60 mph comes up in 3.8 seconds. The turbine-like 664 ft lbs of thrust—all of it available from just 1,500 rpm—does not diminish until it hits the Speed’s 190 mph max. Bentley’s Dynamic Ride air suspension does its best to keep this 5,529-pound heavyweight from leaning through curves, but the Speed’s handling is still more relaxed than athletic. Just sit back, revel in the baronial cabin, and benefit from the 12-cylinder brawn.

Best for Enthusiasts: BMW XM Label Red
Best for Enthusiasts: BMW XM Label Red
Just when we thought BMW’s first M SUV, the 644 hp plug-in hybrid XM, was a rocket ship, the new XM Label Red is soon to arrive as the biggest, baddest Bimmer yet. Packing 738 hp, it’s the most powerful, street-legal BMW M model ever offered, and one that can lunge to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, hit a top speed of 175 mph, and whirr along in electric-only mode for 30 miles. And in keeping with the Label Red moniker, this mightiest of M examples comes with big red rings around that swollen kidney grille, red stripes along the flanks and the windows, and even red accents around the new 23-inch rims. Production at BMW’s South Carolina plant kicks off in August with numbers limited to just 500 examples.

Best for SUV Skeptics: Ferrari Purosangue
Best for SUV Skeptics: Ferrari Purosangue
As we exhorted in our recent First Drive review of Ferrari’s Purosangue: “Just don’t call it an SUV.” A crossover, yes. A 2+2 fastback? Even better. But with modern SUVs coming in a pick ‘n mix of shapes and sizes, this spectacular new four-seat, tall-bodied Ferrari certainly qualifies to be considered in the category—though seemingly from another planet. Powered by a thundering, naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 making 725 hp, this 4,482-pound projectile can rocket from standstill to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 193 mph. While the steering is a little too bland and lifeless for our liking, the Purosangue—that’s “thoroughbred” in Italian—tears through corners with all the poise, agility, and balance of, well, a Ferrari. The Ultimate SUV? You bet.
In production since: 2024Top powertrain option: 6.5-liter V-12Power: 715 hp and 528 ft lbs of torque.Zero to 60 mph: 3.2 secondsTop speed: 198 mphStarting Price: $428,686
Best *********-Made Option: GMC ******* SUV
Best *********-Made Option: GMC ******* SUV
OK, what it lacks in luxury, quality, and craftsmanship—the interior’s plastic is ubiquitous—this all-electric 2024 GMC ******* SUV makes up for in otherworldly performance. And in our book, “otherworldly” relates to an 8,600-pound leviathan being able to charge from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and reach 100 mph in 9.0 seconds. But don’t think of this new ******* SUV as simply a ******* pickup with a sport-ute body. Its wheelbase is 8.9 inches shorter for starters. It’s also lighter, courtesy of the number of battery modules being reduced from 24 to 20. That means a cut in output from the pickup’s 1,000 hp to 830 hp for the SUV. But with GMC’s aptly-named WTF launch control coming standard on the vehicle, off-the-line acceleration will still bring tears to your eyes.
In production since: 2022Top powertrain option: Tri-motor electric powertrainPower: 830 hp and 11,500 ft lbs of torque.Zero to 60 mph: 3.5 secondsTop speed: 106 mphStarting Price: $98,845
Best Supercar Alternative: Lamborghini Urus Performante
Best Supercar Alternative: Lamborghini Urus Performante
Yes, Lamborghini’s Urus Performante, the new 657 hp variant to the marque’s most commercially successful model line in history, can go fast. Very fast. Fast as in zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and 190 mph flat out, thanks to its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8. Fast as in setting a new production-SUV world record on the 12.5-mile Pikes Peak course, shattering the previous record by nearly 18 seconds. But what sets this ****** appliance of an SUV apart, is its otherworldly handling. Most of the changes that turn the regular Urus into a Performante are aimed at making it carve curves faster and with more authority. The stock air suspension was jettisoned in favor of coil springs to allow finer tuning, and the front and rear track got widened while the ride height dropped by close to an inch. Think of it as a Lamborghini Huracán with room for kids and a canine.

Best In-Cabin Tech: Lotus Eletre R
Best In-Cabin Tech: Lotus Eletre R
Lotus’s first-ever SUV, the all-electric Eletre, isn’t due stateside until next year, so information is a little sparse. Yet we do have a bit of tantalizing intel. According to the little car maker that can, the flagship Eletre R, with its 112 kwh battery pack, will come with a jaw-dropping 905 hp and 726 ft lbs of torque. Pedal to the metal will result in a dash from zero to 62 mph in, wait for it, 2.95 seconds. If that number doesn’t set this exceedingly stylish crossover apart, the technology will. Its standout features include a two-speed transmission, a digital cockpit run by state-of-the-art gaming software, and a 2,160-watt KEF sound system with 23 speakers.
In production since: 2023Top powertrain option: Dual-motor electric powertrainPower: 905 hp and 726 ft lbs of torque.Zero to 60 mph: 2.7 secondsTop speed: 165 mphStarting Price: $145,000
Best Electric Option: Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV
Best Electric Option: Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV
Two numbers tend to grab your attention like a punch in the solar plexus when discussing the merits of Mercedes’ first all-electric SUV to wear the fabled AMG performance badge. Those figures would be 677 and 738. The former is the amount of horsepower delivered by this swoopy-bodied sport-ute when equipped with the must-have AMG Dynamic Plus package. The second conveys the ft lbs of torque that its twin electric motors produce. According to AMG, the EQE SUV covers zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, which is pretty impressive for a nearly 6,000-pound family hauler. And with AMG Active Ride Control air suspension with adaptive damping, active rear-axle steering, and active roll stabilization, the 2024 EQE SUV will slice through turns with true purpose and agility. Electrifying indeed.
In production since: 2023Top powertrain option: Dual-motor electric powertrainPower: 677 hp and 738 ft lbs of torque.Zero to 60 mph: 3.1 secondsTop speed: 149 mphStarting Price: $110,750
Best for Making an Entrance: Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Best for Making an Entrance: Mercedes-Benz G-Class
It may not be the most powerful model on this list, nor the fastest, but no luxury SUV will turn heads like the G-Class, or, as its more commonly known, the G-Wagen. Mercedes’ most iconic SUV doesn’t look markedly different than it did back when it debuted in the late 1970s. There’s a reason for this, people just love its boxy shape, even if it has been refined some over the years. But the G-Class isn’t just a car to be seen in. It offers plenty of performance as well. The current range-topper, the AMG G63, has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that 577 hp and 627 ft lbs of torque. Thanks to all that oomph the SUV can ****** from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 137 mph.

Category 2 storm churns in the Gulf of Mexico
Category 2 storm churns in the Gulf of Mexico
Hurricane Rafael remained a “powerful compact hurricane” as it slowly churned in the central Gulf of Mexico, U.S. forecasters said Friday.
Where is the storm and what is its path?
According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center, Rafael is located about 230 miles north of Progeso, Mexico and 475 miles east of the mouth of the Rio Grande. It is moving west at 9 mph.
“A slower west-northwestward motion is expected during the next day or so,” the hurricane center said. “After that, Rafael is likely to meander over the central Gulf of Mexico through early next week.”
A map showing Rafael’s projected path. (NOAA/National Weather Service)
Rafael is currently a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. But “steady weakening is expected during the next few days,” the hurricane center said.
Rafael made landfall in the Cuban province of Artemisa, just east of Playa Majana, on Wednesday, with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, weakening slightly as it crossed the island.
What is the expected impact of Rafael?
A car drives along a road littered with fallen power lines after the passing of Hurricane Rafael in San Antonio de los Banos, Cuba, Thursday. (Ramon Espinosa/AP)
There are currently no coastal watches or warnings associated with Rafael, but the hurricane center said that “interests in the southern and southwestern Gulf of Mexico” should monitor its progress.
“Swells generated by Rafael are expected to spread across most of the Gulf of Mexico during the next few days,” the hurricane center added. “These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.”
Will it hit the U.S.?
It’s too early to say. Long-range forecasts models are not in agreement on its ultimate path as Rafael encounters wind shear and drier air in the gulf.
“Slight differences in Rafael’s intensity and atmospheric steering winds could have a significant impact on its final track,” AccuWeather meteorologist Bill Deger told USA Today. “It is also possible Rafael is torn apart by strong winds high in the atmosphere and dissipates in the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall.”

Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly ‘can’t talk’ about show’s future as Beth Dutton
Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly ‘can’t talk’ about show’s future as Beth Dutton
Paramount
Warning: contains some Yellowstone plot spoliers
Cowboys, murderous revenge plots and family secrets have kept Yellowstone fans hooked since 2018.
It is one of the most watched shows in the US and turned creator Taylor Sheridan into the king of prime time television.
But last year, Paramount announced that the fifth season, which is due to end next month, would be the last.
Its star, Kelly Reilly, tells me it will be “an ending to the Yellowstone world we have known”.
“Does it mean it’s the end of me playing her? Maybe, maybe not,” she says. “We don’t know yet is the honest answer.”
There have already been two Yellowstone spin-offs, with more in the works. Reilly, who plays the troubled and volatile Beth Dutton, says she would “love” to keep playing her character, but any spin-off “would be a new beginning somewhere”.
It sounds like something is possibly in the works, though, with Reilly saying she “can’t talk about the future because there are so many conversations happening”.
Paramount
Kevin Costner left the series after disputes
Yellowstone’s drama on screen has been mirrored off screen, with the departure of its leading man, Kevin Costner.
He only filmed half of season five because of what he says were contract and scheduling issues.
Sheridan has said it was down to Costner’s wish to focus on his Horizon film series, which the star is directing, co-writing, producing and starring in.
Either way, it leaves British-born Reilly as arguably the star of the show.
The daughter of a police officer and a hospital receptionist, the actress was born and brought up in Chessington, Greater London.
A far cry from the Hollywood Hills.
‘It hasn’t happened overnight’
She has previously starred in True Detective, Prime Suspect and Above Suspicion.
But Yellowstone has introduced her to a huge international audience.
I ask how it feels to be an in-demand leading lady.
“Well, I’m 47 years old, it hasn’t happened overnight, you know. So it’s not like I’m getting whiplash,” she laughs.
“I have been a working actor for 30 years. It’s not lost on me that there’s a unicorn of shows that have such success worldwide and a character that has had this amount of attention or appeal.
“But I treat it at arm’s length. I don’t spend too much time thinking about it. I have a very normal life. It’s very important to me that my life is normal. Nothing has changed, other than I’m really busy.
“I don’t get to sleep at home very often, which is annoying because I love home!”
Paramount
Kelly Reilly with her on screen husband Cole Hauser
Most fans assume Reilly is herself an *********, not the softly spoken Brit she is in reality.
She tells me that when Yellowstone started, she “didn’t do any press” because she wanted people to believe in her character.
“People talk to me as if Beth is real,” she says. “We all talk about Beth like she’s a real-life person.
“I’m always going to be a bit of a let down when people meet me. I go into the local bakery and the lady is like, ‘I’d love to drink with you.’
“I know what she means – she wants to drink with Beth. People want to feel part of that energy… someone so connected with their primal self.
“And we’re so disconnected. We’re all on our phones, on social media. It is like it doesn’t happen if someone doesn’t take a picture of it. Beth is the opposite of that. She is just so alive.”
To say Reilly’s character has been put through the wringer would be an understatement.
Beth has survived attempted *****, attempted *******, crushing heartbreak and being betrayed by family members.
She even exclaims: “I am the rock therapists break themselves against.”
Reilly describes Beth as a “powerhouse”, telling me it’s been “such a fun adventure to put her on”.
“I’m very introverted,” she adds. “I don’t have any dreams of vengeance in my life.
“There’s something really exciting about playing her. I feel like I’m on an adrenaline rush for four months while I play her, and when I’m finished I’m like, I now have to go back to my quiet, boring life. And I’m very grateful for my quiet, boring life after I’ve played her.
“But by the time every summer comes around where I’m sort of gearing up again and the scripts start coming in, I get excited again to meet her.
“I’m very aware of the gift of her as a character, but I lock her up in a padlocked box for six months of the year.”
Paramount
Kelly Reilly on set on Yellowstone with Luke Grimes
The character of Beth quickly became a fan favourite, with articles devoted to getting her character’s look, and thousands of social media posts about her.
One of Beth’s most memorable lines of dialogues, “You are the trailer park, I am the tornado”, is even printed on T-shirts.
What does Reilly put that popularity down to?
“She’s unequivocally herself and unapologetic about that,” she says. “And as a woman, it is so refreshing and so much fun to play.”
The actress believes Beth “has penetrated a zeitgeist in women specifically”.
“I think it is that unencumbered kind of freedom that she moves through the world with. She is not afraid of dying, she is not afraid of losing.
“There is a scene in season two where she is being attacked by a man who is in the process of ******* her and is about to ***** her and she is covered in blood.
“She will not be a victim to him. And I think for women and for me, I love that. She is fierce.”
After all the trauma her character has experienced, Reilly says she “goes through different phases” of considering what a happy ending would be for Beth.
“I trust Taylor and his vision for her. He loves her so much,” she says.
“I would like something cathartic, potentially. I would hate to leave her out in the wilderness. But I don’t know if happiness is something any of these characters strive for.
“They strive to protect, they strive to *****, they strive to be *******. These are not looking for peaceful lives.”
Yellowstone season five part two is on Paramount from Sunday, 10 November.

EU does not want trade war with Beijing, says bloc’s ambassador to China
EU does not want trade war with Beijing, says bloc’s ambassador to China
By Andrew Silver
SHANGHAI (Reuters) – The EU does not want a trade war with Beijing but five years of talks have yielded no real progress, the bloc’s ambassador to China said on Saturday, adding that concern was growing over ******** market access for ********* medical devices.
Trade frictions between the bloc and China have intensified over the past year after the EU launched an investigation into ********-made imports of electric vehicles (EVs) that prompted Beijing to launch probes into Europe’s pork and dairy industries and curb brandy imports.
New EU tariffs of up to 45.3% on ******** EV imports came into effect last week.
On top of that, the EU launched a probe into China’s public procurement of medical devices in April, which Beijing swiftly criticised at the time.
Speaking at an event in Shanghai, the EU’s Ambassador to China Jorge Toledo said talks with ********* medical device makers had shown they were being discriminated against in ******** public procurement.
“We have found out, that it’s clear … ********* companies, that have been producing medical devices in China for the last two decades, are being discriminated against their ******** competitors in public procurement,” Toledo said at the 30th anniversary celebration of the China Europe International Business School.
“If that is true, and we know it’s true, we will treat ******** companies in Europe the same way we are treated here,” he said. “We don’t want a trade war. We just want transparency. We want a level playing field.”

How to see the Taurid Meteor Shower
How to see the Taurid Meteor Shower
Viewing the Taurids may be affected by the illumination of the Moon, which could obscure some of the fainter meteors. The Moon will be in a waxing gibbous phase – going from half moon to full moon.
Plus, as we have seen recently, it is hard to see anything in the sky if there is a blanket of low cloud. However, there could be some timely changes in cloud amounts at the time of peak viewing.
A weather front crossing the *** on Sunday will bring a change in air mass. Even though an area of high pressure will build again, it may not contain as much cloud.
It is possible that the clouds will part on Monday night and give us a better chance of seeing some spectacular meteor displays.

Toyota Dealers Brace to Replace 100,000 Tundra V6s
Toyota Dealers Brace to Replace 100,000 Tundra V6s
The time is nigh for the great Toyota engine swap. Undoubtedly one of the largest and most expensive recalls in the automaker’s history, Toyota dealerships are heading into December as prepared and as anxious as they can be.
In May, Toyota announced a recall of its 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. The affected models are the 2022 and 2023 Toyota Tundra pickups and Lexus LX SUVs. The issue was engine ******** due to metal debris contaminating the circulating oil. The reason this debris, called swarf, existed in the first place was because internal passages within the engine block or cylinder heads were not thoroughly cleaned during the assembly process.
The obvious fix would be to remove the engine for disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, followed by reinstallation. Sounds simple, but it’s a labor-intensive and time-consuming repair. Instead, Toyota opted to replace the engines entirely.
However, the size of the recall (102,292 vehicles), the complexity of the repair (some 13 to 21 hours of work), and the resources needed (technicians, service bays, loaner cars) make this course of action equally daunting.
According to Automotive News, from the get-go, Toyota’s planning process “has been to try and reduce complexity for our technicians,” said Kent Rice, Toyota Group vice president of quality. “We’ve spent a lot of time consulting different groups, including dealer councils, and they have been really helpful in their feedback.”
Toyota wants to streamline its repair efforts and make engine replacements as easy as possible for dealerships and technicians. If the recall repairs run as hoped, the benefits are twofold: an efficient (and cost-saving) recall repair and new skills training for junior technicians.
A replacement engine weighs approximately 400 pounds. Toyota says the swaps can be done by a single technician but acknowledges that each store operates differently and may utilize two techs per repair. Some dealers agree that as expansive as the recall is, it does provide an opportunity for new technicians to gain experience with engine replacements earlier in their careers.
Story continues
“We’ll take a man or a woman who is primarily doing light maintenance and offer them an opportunity to work with a master tech,” said Steve Gates, owner of the Gates Auto Family, to Automotive News. His group has 13 stores in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, and among them are three Toyota locations and one Lexus location. He said about one-third of the 100 technicians at the four impacted dealerships will be working on engine replacements. Gates pointed to a previous Toyota recall involving replacing rusty frames on Tacomas as an example of how technicians took advantage of the learning experience.
“We ended up with techs that could do it so fast that they wanted to come in early or stay late, and they wanted to work weekends,” said Gates. “We had one tech that designed his own special tools and he could knock out that job like crazy. I am certain we will see the same thing with the engine recall.”
Similar to how some of those techs turned into frame replacement specialists, Gates anticipates the same with the engine changes. “It’s a great opportunity,” he said. Managing the flow of customers is a different story, though.
“If we had 50 customers that came in all at once for the recall, it would be a little challenging,” said Gates. “The dealers I have talked to are saying their customers are telling them they are not going to do this right away because they are not experiencing any problems…There’s some curiosity, but no panic.”
The engine replacement will be done by appointment, as most dealerships won’t be stocking replacement engines. Instead, they will be ordered from Toyota once an appointment is confirmed and a repair scheduled. This allows for the same tech to work on the vehicle from start to finish.
As for vehicle loaners, Toyota is paying for those, but not everyone has the appropriate inventory. If a customer uses their Tundra for work, offering them a Corolla doesn’t quite fit the bill. Gates, for example, plans to move trucks from new inventory into his loaner fleets as needed.
Tundra and LX owners will be notified by early December to schedule engine replacements. There is no timetable as to when the engine recall program will be completed. Owners can check if their vehicle is part of the recall by visiting Toyota’s website or by entering its Vehicle Identification Number or license plate info at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Kate ‘back on duty’ and tax rise ‘backlash’
Kate ‘back on duty’ and tax rise ‘backlash’
BBC
Pictures of the Princess of Wales at a Remembrance event in London feature on several of Sunday’s front pages. The Sun says Catherine was beaming as she made a “radiant return” at the Royal Albert Hall following her treatment for *******.
“Brave Kate returns to work” is the headline on the front page of the Sunday Express. The paper says the princess has several official trips overseas lined up with the Prince of Wales in the new year as the princess eases her way back into public life.
Meanwhile, the Observer reports that Chancellor Rachel Reeves will make the case for free trade between nations during a keynote speech this week. The paper says the issue puts the government on “direct collision course” with President-elect Donald Trump, who has promised to put tariffs on all imports into the US.
Ports and supermarkets could be targeted by farmers who are threatening to protest over tax increases, the Sunday Telegraph reports. The paper says the chancellor’s plans to place a 20% inheritance tax on farmers’ assets worth more than £1m have received fierce backlash. The decision has fuelled fears ordinary family farms will be forced out of business, it adds.
Reeves is also coming under pressure to rethink her plans to raise £25bn through higher employer national insurance contributions, the Times says, as 200 business leaders are calling on her to water down the tax rise. The paper reports that supermarkets and restaurant chains are being hit particularly hard, with Tesco facing a £1bn increase on its national insurance bill.
The Daily Mail reports on calls for Prince Andrew to reveal “secret sources of funding” which the paper says are “bankrolling his stay at Royal Lodge in Windsor”. Earlier this year the prince reportedly received written notice that the King would cut him off financially if he refused to move into more modest accommodation.
And lastly, the Star on Sunday warns of a “festive crisis” as grottos across the country are facing a Father Christmas shortage. “***, ***, NO!” the paper exclaims.

Eos, the Ancient Greek Goddess of the Dawn
Eos, the Ancient Greek Goddess of the Dawn

Eos, the ancient Greek goddess of the dawn, with her abode the sky, was perhaps the most resplendent of all the beings in the Greek pantheon. With the brilliant dye of saffron as her ******, she is also associated with roses, which also embody the glowing hues of the dawn.
Born, according to some Greek myths, from the gods Hyperion and Theia, her siblings were Helios, the **** of the sun, and Selene, the goddess of the moon. Her name was spelled in Ionic and Homeric Greek Ἠώς, or Ēṓs, and in Attic Greek Ἕως, or Héōs.
Her children were Anemoi and Astraea, the gods and goddess of the four winds Boreas, Notus, Eurus, and Zephyrus and of five Astra Planeta, or “Wandering Stars”, i.e. planets: Phainon (Saturn), Phaethon (Jupiter), Pyroeis (Mars), Eosphoros/Hesperos (Venus), and Stilbon (Mercury).
Some sources mention one daughter of Eos, Astraea, who is the goddess of innocence and, sometimes, justice.
Her other notable offspring were Memnon and Emathion by the ******* prince, Tithonus. Sometimes, Hesperus, Phaethon and Tithonus (not the lover) were called the children of Eos by the Athenian prince Cephalus.
Roman equivalent of “Aurora”
“Dawn,” by Romantic painter Willam Adolphe Bougereau. Credit: Public Domain
With her Roman equivalent of “Aurora,” she personified the glory of the new day.
Her consort was Astraeus, the **** of the dusk, who was wither a second-generation Titan or one of the Gigantes, descended from Tartarus and Gaia, the **** and goddess of the Underworld and the Earth.
Eos was one of the Titans, who rose each morning from her home at the edge of the Oceanus.
Like her Roman identity of Aurora and the Rigvedic Ushas in India, Ēṓs continues the name of an earlier Indo-********* dawn goddess known as Hausos.
All four are considered derivatives of the Proto-Indo-********* stem *h₂ewsṓs (later *Ausṓs), “dawn”. This root also gave rise to the Proto-Germanic word *Austrō, Old High ******* *Ōstara and Old English Ēostre / Ēastre.
According to etymological experts, these cognates led to the reconstruction of the name of the Proto-Indo-********* dawn goddess, known as Hausos (*H₂éwsōs).
Eos was the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia: Hyperion was known as a bringer of light, the One Above, Who Travels High Above the Earth; Theia was referred to as The Divine, and also called Euryphaessa, “wide-shining” and Aethra, or “bright sky.”
Hesiod, in his work Theogony, stated that Eos was the sister of Helios, the **** of the sun, and Selene, one of the goddesses of the moon, “who shine upon all that are on earth and upon the deathless gods who live in the wide heaven.”

The generation of Titans preceded all the familiar deities of Olympus — who largely supplanted them in the Ancient Greek pantheon of gods and goddesses. In some accounts, Eos’ father was also called Pallas.
The rosy-fingered Eos
Eos, the goddess of the Dawn, was almost always described having “rosy fingers” or “rosy forearms,” as she opened the gates of heaven for the Sun to rise each day.
Rosy-fingered and with golden arms, she is depicted on Attic vases as a beautiful woman, crowned with a tiara or diadem and with the large white-feathered wings of a bird. In Homer’s work the Iliad, her saffron-******** robe is embroidered or woven with flowers.
The Iliad describes her thus: “Now when Dawn in robe of saffron was hastening from the streams of Oceanus, to bring light to mortals and immortals, Thetis reached the ships with the armor that the **** had given her.

“But soon as early Dawn appeared, the rosy-fingered, then gathered the folk about the pyre of glorious Hector.”
Eos is most often associated with her Homeric epithet “rosy-fingered” Eos Rhododactylos (Ancient Greek: Ἠὼς Ῥοδοδάκτυλος), but Homer also bestows the name of Eos Erigeneia on her in The Odyssey:
“That brightest of stars appeared, Eosphoros, that most often heralds the light of early-rising Dawn (Eos Erigeneia).”
Near the end of Homer’s Odyssey, the goddess Athena, wanting to buy Odysseus some time with his wife Penelope after they finally reunited with each other after twenty years, orders Eos not to yoke her two horses, thus delaying the coming of the new day.
“And rose-fingered Dawn would have shone for the weepers had not bright-eyed goddess Athena thought of other things. She checked the long night in its passage, and further, held golden-throned Dawn over Ocean and didn’t let her yoke her swift-footed horses, that bring daylight to men, Lampus and Phaethon, the colts that carry Dawn.”
Hesiod, in Theogony, writes of Eos: “And after these Erigeneia (“Early-born”) bore the star Eosphoros (“Dawn-bringer”), and the gleaming stars with which heaven is crowned.”
Eos, preceded by the Morning Star, is seen as the genetrix of all the stars and planets on the Roman poet Ovid’s monumental work Metamorphoses; her tears are considered to have created the morning dew, personified as Ersa or Herse.
Role of Eos in the Gigantomachy
Eos played a small role in the battle of the giants against the gods in Greek mythology; when the earth goddess Gaia learned of a prophecy that the giants would perish at the hand of a mortal, Gaia sought to find a herb that would protect them.
So Zeus ordered Eos, as well as her siblings Selene (Moon) and Helios (Sun) not to shine, and harvested all of the plant for himself, denying Gaia the chance to make the giants indestructible, according to Apollodorus.
Eos is known in myths as a goddess who fell in love several times. According to the writer known as Pseudo-Apollodorus in his work “Bibliotheca,” it was the jealous Aphrodite who cursed her to be perpetually in love and have an insatiable ******* ******* because Eos once had lain with Aphrodite’s sweetheart Ares, the **** of war.
This ******* caused her to abduct a number of handsome young men.
In Homer’s Odyssey, Calypso complains to Hermes about the male gods taking many mortal women as lovers, but not allowing goddesses to do the same. She brings up as example Eos’s love for the hunter Orion, who was ******* by Artemis in Ortygia.
Apollodorus also mentions Eos’ love for Orion, and adds that she brought him to the island of the Greek gods, Delos, where he met Artemis, the Greek goddess of the moon, the hunt, the wilderness and chastity.
The handsome man Cleitus was reportedly kidnapped and made immortal by her, according to Homer’s Odyssey.
The goddess of the Dawn also fell in love with and abducted Tithonus, a handsome prince from Troy. She went with a request to Zeus, asking him to make Tithonus immortal for her sake. Zeus then agreed and granted her wish, but Eos forgot to ask for eternal youth as well for her beloved.
For a while, they two lived happily, until Tithonus’ hair started turning gray, and Eos ceased to visit him in bed. But he kept aging, and was soon unable to even move. In the end, Eos locked him up in a chamber, where he withered away, forever a helpless old man. According to the Homeric Hymn of Aphrodite.
Out of pity, she then turned the unfortunate man into a cicada.
The story of Cephalus, a boy who according to myth was form Athens, had a special appeal for an Athenian audience. His abduction myth element appeared frequently in Attic vase-paintings — and was exported to the wider world outside Greece with them.
In these myths, as related by several writers, including Apollodorus, Pausanias and Ovid, Eos snatched Cephalus against his will when he was hunting and took him to Syria. Although Cephalus was already married to Procris, Eos bore him three sons, including Phaethon and Hesperus, but he then began pining for Procris.
An unhappy Eos then returned him to his wife, but not before sowing the seeds of doubt in his mind, telling him that it was highly unlikely that Procris had stayed faithful to him this entire time.
Cephalus, troubled by her words, asked Eos to change his form into that of a stranger, in order to secretly test Procris’s love for him. Cephalus, disguised, then propositioned Procris, who at first declined but eventually gave in.
He was hurt by her betrayal, and she left him in shame, but eventually they got back together. This time, however it was Procris’ turn to doubt her husband’s fidelity; while hunting, he would often call upon the breeze (‘Aura’ in ******, sounding similar to Eos’s Roman equivalent Aurora) to refresh the body.
Upon hearing him call “Aura,” Procris followed and spied on him. Cephalus, mistaking her for a wild animal, threw his spear at her, ******** her, according to Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The second-century traveller and historian Pausanias knew of the story of Cephalus’ abduction as well, but interestingly by that time he referred to Eos by the name of Hemera, the goddess of day.
Eos figures in ******* War
According to Hesiod, Eos had two sons, Memnon and Emathion. Memnon fought with the Trojans in the ******* War, against Achilles. Pausanias mentions images of Thetis, the mother of Achilles, and Eos begging Zeus on behalf of their sons, in his works.
Achilles triumphed, however, and slew Memnon in battle. Mourning deeply over the ****** of her son, Eos made the light of her brother, Helios the **** of the sun, to fade, and begged Nyx, the goddess of the night, to come out earlier, so she could be able to freely steal her son’s body undetected by the armies, according to Philostratus of Lemnos, in his work “Imagines.”
Eos then asked Zeus to make her son immortal, and he granted her wish. Her image with the ***** Memnon across her knees, like Thetis with the ***** Achilles are icons that some scholars believe may have inspired the ********** Pietà, with Mary cradling ****** after the crucifixion.
Eos’ divine horses pull her chariot across sky every day
Eos’ team of horses, which pull her chariot across the sky every day, are called “Firebright” and “Daybright” in the Odyssey. Quintus, in his work “Postomerica,” described her exulting in her heart over the radiant horses (Lampus and Phaëton) that drew her chariot, amidst the bright-haired Horae, the feminine Hours, climbing the arc of heaven and scattering sparks of *****.
Oddly, there are no known temples, shrines, or altars to Eos that are known at this time. However, Ovid seems to allude to the existence of at least two shrines dedicated to her, as he describes them in plural, in a line from the Metamorphoses: “Least I may be of all the goddesses the golden heavens hold – in all the world my shrines are rarest.”
Etruscan versions of Eos
The generative dawn-goddess for the Etruscan peoples was known as “Thesan.” Depictions of her with a young lover became popular in Etruria in the fifth century, most likely inspired by imported Greek vase-paintings.
Though Etruscans preferred to show the goddess as a nurturer (Kourotrophos) rather than an abductor of young men, the late Archaic sculptural acroterion from Etruscan Cære, now in Berlin, showing the goddess in archaic running pose adapted from the Greeks, and bearing a boy in her arms, has commonly been identified as Eos and Cephalus.
Thesan is also depicted on an Etruscan mirror carrying off a young man, whose name is inscribed as “Tinthu.”
The later Roman equivalent of Eos, as noted previously, is Aurora, also a cognate showing the characteristic ****** rhotacism, showing the addition of an “r” in her name. Dawn became associated in Roman cults with Matuta, later known as Mater Matuta.
Aurora was also associated with sea harbors and ports, and had a temple dedicated to her on the Forum Boarium. The Matralia was celebrated every June 11 at that temple in honor of Mater Matuta; this festival was only for women during their first marriage.

Samoa clinch Pacific Cup promotion with PNG thrashing
Samoa clinch Pacific Cup promotion with PNG thrashing
Samoa have booked historic rugby league Tests against the Jillaroos and Kiwi Ferns by thumping Papua New Guinea 34-12 to win promotion to the top tier of the Pacific Championships.
Jamie Soward’s side qualified for the 2026 World Cup last week and will be given a shot at the game’s top two nations in 2025 after comfortably handling the PNG Orchids.
PNG had been kept scoreless in thrashings at the hands of both Australia and New Zealand in the group stages of the Pacific Cup.
They needed to beat Samoa in the opening game at CommBank Stadium on Sunday but quickly found themselves 16-0 down at halftime.
Tries from Mercedez Taulelei-Siala, Jasmine Fogavini and Jetaya Faifua took the Samoans out to an early lead.
It was a position they only strengthened in the second half with Lindsay Tui crashing in on the left flank.
PNG forward Sareka Mooka was placed on report for using her elbow in the tackle while Tui grounded the ball, prompting referee Karra-Lee Nolan to award Samoa a penalty try.
Mooka had been placed on report in the first half for a hair pull.
Fogavini further boosted Samoa’s advantage before PNG finally got on the board, registering their first points of the tournament via an Elsie Albert barge-over.
PNG’s hopes were not helped when Sera Koroi was sent off for a spear tackle on Sarina Masaga with 15 minutes left in the match.
Albert did add a second try when she burst over under the posts before a long-range Jessica Patea effort completed Samoa’s dominant victory.

Her other notable offspring were Memnon and Emathion by the ******* prince, Tithonus. Sometimes, Hesperus, Phaethon and Tithonus (not the lover) were called the children of Eos by the Athenian prince Cephalus.

Trump wins Arizona, flipping a swing state Biden won in 2020
Trump wins Arizona, flipping a swing state Biden won in 2020

President-elect Donald Trump has won Arizona, NBC News projects, putting its 11 electoral votes in his column after he narrowly lost the state to President Joe Biden in 2020.
Trump’s projected victory over Vice President Kamala Harris comes after years of a shifting political landscape in the Sun Belt state, following Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton by 4 points in 2016.
Since then, the once firmly GOP-controlled state has put into office a Democratic governor, two Democratic senators and other statewide elected officials. A fast-growing Latino population and a revolt against Trump among some old-line Republicans put the once-red state into battleground territory. And Biden’s 2020 win in Arizona was just the second time in 28 years that Arizona’s electoral votes went to the Democratic presidential nominee.
Still, many of those Democratic victories have been by the slimmest of margins. Arizona was the second-closest state in the country in the 2020 presidential race, with Biden beating Trump by just 0.3 percentage points (10,457 votes).
The state then became an epicenter of Trump’s post-election spread of unfounded *********** theories about the election being stolen from him, with state Republicans eagerly embracing the claims — and some of those Republicans failing statewide in the 2022 midterm elections.
Yet in the 2024 presidential race, polling over the past several months had given Trump a slight edge against Harris in Arizona, though typically still within the margin of error. But while Trump’s campaign, for the most part, was largely outspent and out-organized in Arizona by the Harris campaign, Republicans did see a voter registration surge heading into the presidential election year.
And the state was a good fit for the two issues at the center of Trump’s campaign: the economy and immigration.
This summer, Arizona saw some of the highest gas prices in the nation, and both Harris and Trump made visits to the Arizona-Mexico border during visits to the state. Still, Arizona was among the battlegrounds Trump visited least, being geographically separated from most of the rest of the battlefield states.

Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa: Victory gives Reds early title control
Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa: Victory gives Reds early title control
Liverpool have taken early control of the Premier League title race, but Alexis Mac Allister says he didn’t think they would be contenders at the start of the season.
Arne Slot’s side beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield after reigning champions Manchester City had earlier slipped up 2-1 at Brighton.
The results gave Liverpool a five-point lead at the top over Pep Guardiola’s men, who have now lost four successive games.
“If we are top of the league by five points then it means something,” said Mac Allister.
“But we have to go step by step. If you asked me before the season started I would not say we were candidates, but now it looks like [we are].”
Records have tumbled under Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp in the summer, as his excellent start at Anfield continued with a ninth Premier League win in 11 games and 15 from 17 overall.
But the Dutch boss was wisely managing expectations as he added: “We are really happy that most of our players have stayed fit through this tough run.
“If I look at the games that are ahead, they are tough. It will be a tough season in general. Margins are small, we have a margin but it is small.
“There are many challenges to come for us.”
