Dalyup emergency bushfire: Residents told to leave now to survive as unpredictable blaze threatens homes
Dalyup emergency bushfire: Residents told to leave now to survive as unpredictable blaze threatens homes
Firefighters are battling a raging bushfire in the Goldfields-Esperance region, with residents urged to act now to survive.
Properties are under threat in Dalyup, about 25 minutes west of Esperance, after a fire was sparked amid hot, dry conditions.
People between Dalyup River, Chartwell Lane, Telegraph Road and Murray Road in Dalyup have been told to leave immediately as the unpredictable blaze advances at pace in a south-westerly direction.
“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services alert said.
“Property is under threat by fire now.”
The fire was reported just after 2.30pm on Friday afternoon as temperatures exceeded 40C, with wind gusts up to 41km/h recorded at 3.30pm.
The blaze remains out-of-control as the heatwave conditions paired with fierce winds make fireys’ jobs all the more difficult.
Watch and act advice is in place for people between Dalyup River and McCall Road. People in this area are being advised to leave now if that is their plan, or get ready to defend their properties.
WHAT TO DO:
If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place. This may be with family or friends away from the area.If it is safe to do so, for those on Murray Road, head east along Telegraph Road or South Coast Highway.Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger.Take your emergency kit with you.If you become stuck in your car, park away from bushes, cover yourself with a woollen blanket, get onto the floor as the windows may break from the intense heat.Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible. If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home. You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you.Go to a room in your home where you can shelter from the approaching fire. The room should have running water, such as a kitchen or laundry, and have a clear exit so you can easily escape. If you are not at home, it is too dangerous to return.

I joined OnlyFans as a single mom, but it’s left me unemployable and anxious — and someone smashed my car over it
I joined OnlyFans as a single mom, but it’s left me unemployable and anxious — and someone smashed my car over it
An OnlyFans creator who makes £12k-a-month [$14892.77 USD] on the platform says she’s been left “unemployable” — and wants to warn single moms it’s “not all it’s cracked up to be”.
Tyler Wilson, 26 — who posts under the name ‘Bluu’ — decided to turn to making explicit solo content after a car accident in 2019 left her unable to return to her nine-to-five as an estate agent.
Within the first month, she was able to take her son, aged 10, to Disney World — after attracting fans who collectively paid £100 [$124.11 USD] a day for her explicit photos.
Wilson started making adult content after a car accident in 2019 prevented her from returning to her job as an estate agent. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
But she quickly found out about the “ugly” side of her career when a clip of her speaking on a podcast went viral on TikTok and she was “bombarded” by death threats, calls to the police and ‘judgement at the school gates’.
Now, Tyler says she’s unable to go back to normal life after being left with “constant anxiety” — and still lives on her income from OnlyFans as she believes it’s her “only choice.”
Mom-of-one Tyler, from Manchester, said: “Within one week of my video going viral, I had the police called to my house multiple times, I had to take my son out of school and someone smashed up my car.
Wilson was “bombarded” with death threats following a viral TikTok of her speaking on a podcast. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
“I was very fragile and vulnerable [in the video] — I literally went on, thinking it would make me an extra £1k [$1241.06 USD].
“It was a heated debate with someone who was against OnlyFans — I was reacting to him with a lot of emotion and trauma.
“As soon as my account blew up, my entire family knew — and all the mums [moms] at the school gates had seen it.
“It was a heated debate with someone who was against OnlyFans — I was reacting to him with a lot of emotion and trauma,” Wilson said about the video. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
“It’s technically left me unemployable — I could end up losing my job if an employer discovered my content.
“I’m stuck in a rut where every time I need an income boost, I’d have to go viral again, or do a collaboration with another creator — I don’t want to do that.”
In July 2019, Tyler’s estate agent job came to an abrupt end after a car accident left her with a broken collarbone, spine and ribs.
“It’s technically left me unemployable — I could end up losing my job if an employer discovered my content,” Wilson said. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
She recovered in hospital for a month — but continued to need surgeries on her broken bones until May 2022.
Despite initially trying to go back to the office, Tyler found it “painful” — and switched to online-only work in estate agent management, earning £800 [$992.85 USD] a month.
“I was so worried about having to leave my job — I was just in a position where I couldn’t really work,” Tyler said.
Wilson turned to OnlyFans after finding it “painful” to return to work after the accident. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
“I couldn’t keep coming to work in a neck brace — it was crazy.
“It was like being stuck in limbo, the online job was OK money — but I needed additional income.”
Tyler says she didn’t know much about OnlyFans when she made the decision to sign up in August 2022 — and thought it was like Facebook, where she’d be able to solicit business by messaging people’s accounts.
But she claims she didn’t realize she had to share her link for fans to find her — so created alternate, anonymous social media accounts to promote her content.
She quickly went from making £800 [$992.85 USD] a month to £700 [$868.75 USD] a week.
“It was never extreme stuff, just explicit solo content,” Tyler said.
“I earnt my first £10k [$12410.64 USD] really quickly, which I spent on taking my son to Disney World, Florida, for two weeks.
“I also bought myself a £27k [$33508.74 USD], brand new Audi TT in cash.”
In February 2023, while still on a “high” from making so much money, Tyler was asked to go on a podcast — which she thought would be a good opportunity to get a few more subscribers.
The premise was a debate about OnlyFans — and the video started to “blow up” just hours after being posted to TikTok.
Tyler was hit with an influx of trolling comments — some even saying she was “ruining her son’s life”.
She said: “The impact hit straight away — I spent ages replying to comments, when I should’ve ignored them.
Wilson received troll comments following the TikTok video about how she was impacting her son. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
“My son’s old school called me up pretty quickly to say they’d seen it — and I should probably avoid peak pick-up times in case any of the mums [moms] at the school gates kicked off.
“The police were called to my house so many times in just one week, following reports of ‘child abuse’ — it was a joke.
“I decided to stop actively posting on OnlyFans — but what’s on there is on there forever.
“And I’m still making an income from it — around £3-4k [$3723.19-4964.26 USD] a week.”
The backlash generated from the viral clip kept going for three weeks — before starting to slow down.
Wilson was told by her son’s old school to not go at peak pick-up times to prevent confrontations with other moms. Tyler Wilson / SWNS
But Tyler says she still feels the impact of the content being “unerasable” from the internet.
She and her son have since moved house to prevent trolls from finding her address — and she enrolled him at a new school.
“It’s an active worry for me that when he reaches a certain age, my son or his friends will stumble across my content,” she said.
“We have a good relationship and I’d never lie to him if he asked me about it — but I really don’t want him to go looking for it.
“High school is looking like another hurdle — but I know I’m in a position to homeschool if it comes to it.”
Tyler wants to warn other single moms not to be “tempted” by making extra income on OnlyFans – and she still earns enough to live on it full-time.
“It is better than what I earnt from my nine-to-five, but it’s more than passive income,” she said.
“In a moment of needing money, think about how the videos will likely stay online forever.
“It isn’t worth the anxiety.”

Gold futures hit fresh all-time high as investors parse latest U.S. data
Gold futures notched a new all-time high as investors assessed the latest GDP data from the U.S.
Gold futures on the New York Mercantile exchange were trading at $2,852.5 per ounce.
“Today’s leg higher can be explained by the release of the fourth quarter US GDP growth data, which slowed more than expected,” said Trevor Yates, senior investment analyst at Global X ETFs.
Yates expects that the slower-than-expected GDP data could lead the Fed to be “increasingly dovish, letting inflation run hotter for longer and therefore pushing real rates lower.”
Gold prices tend to share an inverse relationship with interest rates.

AI investing crowding exacerbated DeepSeek meltdown
The race to invest in artificial intelligence assets exacerbated Monday’s DeepSeek fallout, according to Bank of America.
“Funds piled into AI stocks last year, likely contributing to the outsized reactions we saw in response to DeepSeek,” wrote strategist Savita Subramanian. “AI/tech companies with the biggest increase in ownership breadth over the last year were hit hardest by the headline.”
Specifically, Subramanian pointed to semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom as an example.
“AVGO, which plummeted 17% on Monday, tops our list of stocks with the biggest increases in ownership breadth last year: 56% of US large cap funds owned the stock at the end of 2024 vs. just 38% at the end of 2023,” she wrote.

Families mourn loved ones who died in India crush
Families mourn loved ones who died in India crush

Kaikeyi Devi says she saw her husband get trampled to death
Families of people who were killed in a crush at a major religious festival in northern India this week are grieving their loss and waiting to take bodies of their relatives back home.
At least 30 people died in the crush at the Kumbh Mela on Wednesday, which was one of the holiest days of the six-week long Hindu festival.
The incident took place in Prayagraj city near the Sangam, an auspicious meeting point of the sacred Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers where devotees take a dip.
The festival, billed as the largest gathering of humanity, attracts tens of millions of pilgrims from around the world.
Warning: The story has details that some readers may find distressing
The crush reportedly took place after a surge of pilgrims making their way to the Sangam trampled over devotees sleeping near the riverbank.
Eyewitnesses have blamed the police and festival authorities for poor crowd-control measures and not making adequate space for pilgrims to move to their destinations.
The government in Uttar Pradesh state has launched a judicial investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the families of the victims are mourning the loss of their loved ones and some say that many of their questions remain unanswered. Others are still waiting for news of their relatives.

Belongings of pilgrims lay scattered on the ground at the site of the crush
Kaikeyi Devi, who travelled from Bihar state with her husband to attend the Kumbh Mela, says she can’t shake the image of him getting trampled in front of her eyes.
“He was dragged in the chaos and we started crying… ‘Let him free! Let him be! We are here!’…but he never came [back],” Ms Devi told Reuters news agency as she waited outside a mortuary in Prayagraj city to collect her husband’s body.
Taposh Roy, a resident of Assam state who lost his brother in the crush, recounts the delay in getting help from authorities.
“He was just lying there for a long time because there was no ambulance to take him to the hospital. We pleaded with the police saying that we would carry him ourselves but they told us to wait. When he was taken by police, we couldn’t go with him,” Mr Roy told the Indian Express newspaper.
This was also the experience of Tarun Bose from West Bengal state who lost a female relative in the crush.
“The authorities failed to rescue her and the police only managed to retrieve her body after an hour and a half. There were no police officers around during the accident,” he told AFP news agency.

Manoj Kumar Sahni says his father has been missing since the crush
Deepak Hattarwat from Karnataka state is mourning the loss of his wife and daughter. He didn’t travel to the festival and says that he found out about their deaths only a day later and that too from a fellow traveller in their group.
“We were planning her [the daughter’s] wedding. What should I do and for whom should I live now?” Mr Hattarwat told the Indian Express newspaper.
Meanwhile, some people say that they are still searching for their loved ones, more than 48 hours after the incident took place.
Manoj Kumar Sahni from Bihar state told Reuters news agency that he has been desperately searching for his father who is missing.
“I have been searching for him since the last three days. I went to the hospital as well but didn’t find him. We also searched at the railway station and the bus stand but did not find him,” he said.
Since the incident, authorities have stepped up security measures in the festival and have also banned vehicles from entering the mela grounds until 4 February. The next auspicious bathing day is on Monday, when the festival is expected to witness massive crowds.

Trump says 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada may not include oil

Donald Trump has confirmed he will impose 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada from February, following through on threats issued weeks earlier.
The blanket tariffs on the countries’ products will come into effect on Saturday, Feb. 1.
However, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday evening, Trump told reporters his administration was yet to determine whether oil imports would be included in the policy, noting that the decision was pinned on whether the two nations “treat us properly” and “if the oil is properly priced.”
“Oil is going to have nothing to do with it as far as I’m concerned,” he said. “We’re going to make that determination probably tonight on oil. Because they send us oil, we’ll see – it depends on what their price is.”
March contracts for Brent crude — the global benchmark for oil prices — were marginally higher at 8:06 a.m. London time, trading around $76.92 a barrel.
Trump told reporters the looming duties were being leveraged “for a number of reasons” and “may or may not rise with time.”
“Number one is the people that have poured into our country so horribly and so much,” he said. “Number two is the drugs fentanyl and everything else that have come into the country, and number three are the massive subsidies that we’re giving to Canada and Mexico in the form of deficits.”
“I’ll be putting the tariff of 25% on Canada and separately 25% on Mexico, and we’ll really have to do that because we have very big deficits with those countries,” he added.
This news story is being updated.

The odds of alien life just increased, NASA says after discovering DNA ingredients on an asteroid
The odds of alien life just increased, NASA says after discovering DNA ingredients on an asteroid
The discovery shows asteroids could seed planets with the precursors for life.
It’s also more evidence that life could arise on the dwarf planet Ceres and Saturn’s moon Enceladus.
NASA probed an asteroid and found an ancient repository of ingredients for life.
The findings, published in two papers in the journals Nature and Nature Astronomy on Wednesday, point to a missing link in the origins of life on Earth, but also possibly elsewhere.
“The findings do not show evidence of life itself, but they do suggest that the conditions necessary for the emergence of life were likely widespread across the early solar system,” Nicky Fox, the associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, said in a briefing on Wednesday.
“So this, of course, increases the odds that life could have formed on other planets,” she said.
NASA’s groundbreaking mission to an asteroid
A mission called OSIRIS-REx landed on an asteroid named Bennu in 2020, jammed its arm into the rock’s surface, and scooped up a heaping sample of grit and dust. It was NASA’s first-ever score of fresh, unadulterated asteroid material.
The mission sealed the Bennu sample in a protective capsule in space and shot it back to Earth, where NASA divvied it up to labs worldwide. Now, surprising science results are rolling in.
“I’m excited to announce that the OSIRIS-REx team discovered that Bennu contains many precursor building blocks of life, along with the evidence that it comes from an ancient wet world,” Fox said.
Not only does Bennu contain evidence of ancient pools of liquid water — it also carries minerals crucial to life, amino acids, and the five nucleobases for DNA and RNA.

As asteroids ****** into worlds across the galaxy, “they’re essentially seeding these planets with the necessary ingredients for life,” Tim McCoy, the curator of meteorites at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and co-lead of one of the studies, told Business Insider.
That’s promising for the possibility of life on other worlds — including a few within our own solar system.
Clues in tiny grains of asteroid dust
Magnetite (iron oxide) crystals, each less than one micrometer in size, in a sample from the asteroid Bennu.Rob Wardell, Tim Gooding and Tim McCoy, Smithsonian
Researchers have spent thousands of hours peering through special electron microscopes, mapping each grain of material from Bennu.
Each millimeter-sized grain takes about a month to map, McCoy said, because it “probably realistically has at least 10,000 mineral grains in it, and you’re just trying to find the one you’re looking for.”
In a sample the size of a bar of soap, “you’re looking for a grain that’s a hundredth the width of a human hair, and there might be one or two of them,” McCoy said.
Sodium carbonate needles, each less than a micrometer wide, leftover from water evaporation on Bennu’s parent body.Rob Wardell, Tim Gooding and Tim McCoy, Smithsonian
Scientists found phosphates and clay, which are both essential to the formation of life on Earth. A salty brine also indicated that mineral-rich pools of water had once evaporated from the parent asteroid that Bennu splintered from.
McCoy had expected some water, envisioning Bennu’s parent asteroid spotted with “ancient mud.” Instead, he said, “it was like an ancient mud with pockets of water in it.”
So, not only did the asteroid carry the basic elements for life, it also had a watery environment to help synthesize them into complex ingredients — like the DNA nucleobases that the NASA team discovered.
That synthesis is a key step in the development of life.
After that, nucleobases must interact with phosphates (which were on Bennu) and sugars (which scientists are still looking for in Bennu’s samples) to form the nucleotides that bind to make the double helix of DNA or its single-stranded cousin, RNA. From there, DNA or RNA provides the instructions for cells and, eventually, can evolve into self-replicating life.
That doesn’t necessarily mean asteroids are flying around with DNA and small alien bacteria. However, that early pre-life chemistry may have started on an asteroid in space before it crashed into Earth.
Potential for alien life in our solar system
With its water gone, Bennu is probably not conducting life-ingredient chemistry today — but two planetary bodies in our solar system probably are.
The dwarf planet Ceres and the Saturn moon Enceladus both feature salty brines with large bodies of water.
Plumes on Enceladus shoot out water from an underground ocean, which scientists believe is similar to salty water on Bennu’s parent body 4.5 billion years ago.NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute
Those water bodies are much ******* and have probably been around much longer than the water on Bennu’s parent asteroid, so the chemical pathway to life “could have gone much further,” McCoy said.
Both are contenders for possible alien life. The Bennu discoveries are another point in their favor.
Asteroid Bennu has more to offer
At the Smithsonian, McCoy said scientists have mapped about 15 millimeter-sized grains of Bennu dust, with hundreds more to go.
“We’re seeing new things in almost every one,” he said, so there are surely more discoveries to come.
While they continue mapping the minerals in each grain, NASA’s Goddard team plans to look for sugars that would be crucial to forming nucleotides. McCoy’s team also hopes to find bits of water trapped in the crystalline structure of Bennu’s mineral grains and trace that water’s history, to find clues about how water has moved through the solar system and its planets.
“I mean, that’s one of the great questions: How did we get oceans and life, and why didn’t every other planet get them?” McCoy said. “This may be part of the answer.”

Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash AI Model Now Rolling Out to All Users
Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash AI Model Now Rolling Out to All Users
Google is rolling out the stable version of the Gemini 2.0 Flash to all users. Announced on Thursday, the artificial intelligence (AI) model will replace the experimental preview of 2.0 Flash which was first released in December 2024. The new AI model can be accessed in both the web client and the mobile apps by all users. When the tech giant first announced the Gemini 2.0 family of AI models, it said the new models would offer improved capabilities including native support for image generation and audio generation.
Gemini 2.0 Flash Available to All Users
In a blog post, the Mountain View-based tech giant announced that the Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model is now coming to the Gemini app. Earlier it was only available in the web version. While Gemini Advanced subscribers will get access to the new generation model, free users will also be able to access the model. Currently, it is not known whether there’s a rate limit for the free tier.
Google announced that Gemini Advanced users will also get access to the one million token context window with the AI model. The company says this is enough to process 1,500 pages of file uploads. Alongside, paid subscribers will also get access to premium features such as Deep Research, Gems, and more.
The tech giant said that the Gemini 2.0 Flash supports multimodal output such as image generation with text and steerable text-to-speech (TTS) multilingual audio. Further, the AI model is also equipped with agentic functions. 2.0 Flash natively calls tools like Google Search, code execution-related tools, as well as third-party functions once a user defines them via the API.
On performance, Google shared the AI model’s benchmark scores based on internal testing. It is said to outperform Gemini 1.5 Pro on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), Natural2Code, MATH, and Graduate-Level Google-Proof Q&A (GPQA) benchmarks.
Notably, image generation in Gemini now supports the latest version of the Imagen 3 AI model. Gemini 1.5 Flash (for free users) and 1.5 Pro (for Advanced users) will also remain available for the next few weeks. Google has added this extension to allow users enough time to finish existing conversations and move to the new AI model.

Suburban restaurant owner threatens to close after fight with mayor
Suburban restaurant owner threatens to close after fight with mayor
PARK FOREST, Ill. — The owner of a popular barbecue joint said he may close his Park Forest location, after allegedly suffering injuries in a fight with the suburb’s mayor.
Antiwone Hardy is the owner of All-Out Smoke Pit, a Park Forest barbecue restaurant known for its ribs, brisket and more. He’s built a loyal following but now says he’s weighing whether to close.
“We don’t know if we want to stay or leave,” he said. “I feel uncomfortable with the village. We feel very uncomfortable being here.”
That feeling followed a fight with Mayor Joe Woods last August.
Hardy claims what sparked the brawl was the mayor calling Hardy’s teenage daughter an expletive, after she allegedly refused to shake the mayor’s hand.
During an interview with police, Woods denied the allegation. The mayor also declined WGN’s interview requests.
But according to reports and video, obtained by WGN Investigates, from the Cook County Sheriff’s office, the mayor said Hardy’s wife, upset over the alleged comment about her daughter, “pushed him and hit him with her body.”
The altercation occurred outside the All-Out Smoke Pit. And at some point, the mayor said Hardy came outside holding a “machete.”
“I was in shock, at that point,” Woods told police. “I’m like, are you trying to cut me?”
Hardy told police he put the knife down and didn’t use it against Woods.
But that didn’t defuse the situation.
“He shoved me into the truck and came behind the shove and put his weight on me,” Hardy told police.
WGN Investigates: Investigating public corruption, crime & fraud
During the fight, Hardy said he damaged three lower teeth, which later had to be extracted. He asked the village to cover his medical costs.
There’s no word on whether that will happen, or if Hardy will follow through on his threat to close his restaurant.
At a recent board meeting, Woods said in a public statement that he didn’t want the restaurant to leave.
“If Park Forest loses a business – that’s not good,” he said. “But good things are also happening [in the village].”
Cook County Sheriff’s Police recently closed their investigation into the fight, after both Hardy and Woods agreed not to file criminal complaints.
News of the altercation was first reported in the South Suburban News.

Google Photos for Android Adds Option to Flip Images; Dark Mode for Desktop Reportedly Rolled Out
Google Photos for Android Adds Option to Flip Images; Dark Mode for Desktop Reportedly Rolled Out
Google Photos for Android is rolling out a new functionality which lets users create mirror images, the company announced on Wednesday. It is added to the in-built editor on the app and enables image flipping natively. The feature is speculated to prove useful especially when taking selfies with the Android phone’s front-facing camera where the text is usually mirrored and unreadable. Additionally, Google Photos is also reported to be finally rolling out a dark mode appearance for its desktop version.
Image Mirroring on Google Photos
Google has updated its support page with the announcement that users can now mirror their photos in the Photos app. It is currently only available on the Android version of the app. By allowing users to flip an image using the in-built editor, it potentially negates the need to use a third-party image editor for the same. To mirror an image, users need to:
Open the Google Photos app.
Tap the Edit icon and then Crop.
Tap the flip icon and select Save.
Option to Flip Images in Google Photos for Android
While the rollout of the image mirroring feature has recently been officially confirmed by the Mountain View-based technology giant, it was first spotted in September by tipster Mishaal Rahman, but only select users were said to have access to it. Google has now widely released it and Gadgets 360 can confirm that it is available on the latest version of the Google Photos for Android app.
Dark Mode for Desktop
In addition to a new feature for its Android app, Google Photos is also said to be finally rolling out a dark mode for its desktop version. 9to5Google discovered a banner on the top-right corner of the screen which says, “Dark mode is here! You can now apply a dark theme to Photos.”
The option is said to be present in the Google Photos for desktop settings, enabling users to choose between Light, Dark, and Use device default. It is reported to be rolling out to users gradually and Gadgets 360 could not confirm its availability on four separate accounts.

Pomona woman records neighbor being detained by ICE
Pomona woman records neighbor being detained by ICE
LOS ANGELES – New video shared with FOX 11 shows possible federal agents in Pomona this week, apprehending a woman for immigration-related reasons.
“She was on her way to work, and they just proceeded to take her out of the car and take her,” explained Diana Delgado.
Delgado said she recorded the incident outside her home in Pomona on the morning of Monday, Jan.27. She describes the woman who was apprehended as a neighbor.
“The first thing I heard was, “What part of Mexico are you from? Very aggressively in Spanish,” recalled Delgado. “I knew something was wrong, so I proceeded to record.”
In the video, a woman can be seen being taken away by law enforcement.
According to Delgado, her neighbor’s daughter said the woman was taken to the ICE detention center in downtown Los Angeles.
“I spoke to the daughter, and she did confirm her mom has no criminal background,” said Delgado. “The family confirmed [law enforcement was] looking for someone else and after that, they proceeded to ask her what part of Mexico she was from.”

The DEA office in Los Angeles has recently posted images to X of their agents working side by side with Homeland Security to enforce immigration laws.
In addition, the ICE Los Angeles office shared pictures of recent arrests, including a Colombian national convicted of extortion, kidnapping, and trafficking charges, along with a foreign fugitive from El Salvador wanted for *********.

While authorities increase immigration enforcement, a group in Riverside County is on guard. In a public Facebook post, the group called on volunteers to watch over Home Depot parking lots for ICE/Border Patrol agents. A flyer from the group read, “We need support with ICE/Border Patrol watch shifts, [and] you will be trained.”
“The day before the incident [outside my house, authorities] did the Home Depot down the block,” said Delgado. “They did the same thing there. It’s just really sad.”

Tales of Graces f Remastered Review – A Graceful Remaster – MonsterVine
Tales of Graces f Remastered Review – A Graceful Remaster – MonsterVine
Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:
“With as many games that are seeing remasters and remakes over the past few years, there are still countless classic JRPGs languishing on older platforms and many of these happen to be those in the Tales of franchise. While Bandai Namco has slowly been bringing some Tales of games to modern platforms even while putting out a brand new entry just a few years ago, many of their most beloved entries require dusting off an older console to play thanks to some specific platforms lacking backwards compatibility. Thankfully, fans of Tales of Graces f no longer need to worry about the title being trapped on the PlayStation 3 as Bandai Namco has brought Tales of Graces f Remastered to all modern platforms. Offering a bevy of quality of life improvements alongside graphical enhancements, has this over a decade old JRPG held up?”

Meta Stock Ticks Higher on Strong Earnings, but Q1 Outlook Is Muted
Meta Stock Ticks Higher on Strong Earnings, but Q1 Outlook Is Muted
Meta saw a 50% spike in earnings in Q4.
The stock rose some 4% on Thursday.
Meta stock got several analyst upgrades post-earnings.
Meta saw a massive 50% increase in earnings in Q4.
Shares of Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:) rose about 4% in morning trading after the Magnificent Seven firm released its fourth quarter and full-year earnings.
The gains reflect the social media giant’s strong fourth earnings. Meta saw revenue climb 21% in the quarter to $48.4 billion, which was better than estimates of $47.0 billion.
Net income skyrocketed 49% to $20.8 billion, while earnings rose 50% to $8.02 per share. That blew away estimates of $6.77 per share.
However, the strong quarter was tempered somewhat by its muted first quarter of 2025.
Lower Expenses in One Key Area Boosts Q4 Earnings
The spike in Q4 revenue was due to a few factors. One, the number of daily active users on its family of social media apps rose 5% year over year. Two, ad impressions on its sites rose 6% for the quarter, and three, the average price per ad gained 14%.
Given that Meta makes $47.3 billion of its $48.4 billion in total revenue on its social media sites, or 97%, those three factors accounted for the revenue gains. The firm’s social media sites generated $28.3 billion in income from operations.
Meta’s Reality Labs business, which includes its virtual reality products, accounted for $1.1 billion in revenue, essentially flat year over year. However, the business had a $5 billion net loss, which was an 8% ******* loss than the same quarter a year ago. It brought down overall operating income for Meta to $23.4 billion.
For the full year, Meta performed well, with total revenue up 21% to $164.5 billion. Net income rose 59% to $64.5 billion in fiscal 2024, or $26.61 per share.
The key to Meta’s earnings growth was its expense discipline. A big part of that was a 67% drop in general and administrative expenses to $761 million due to a $1.55 billion decrease in the accrued losses for certain legal proceedings.
However, marketing and sales expenses were essentially flat, offsetting a 16% increase in research and development spending to $12.2 billion. Overall, total costs and expenses were only 5% higher, rising to $25.0 billion in the quarter. For the full year, expenses rose about 8% to $95.1 billion.
Muted Q1 Gains Expected
Meta did not provide a full-year fiscal 2025 revenue or earnings outlook, but it did offer guidance for the first quarter.
The firm expects first-quarter revenue to be in the range of $39.5 billion to $41.8 billion. That would be down from Q4, but up 8% to 15% year over year. However, this was mostly below analysts’ expectations of $41.7 billion, save for the very top end of the range.
“While we are not providing a full-year 2025 revenue outlook, we expect the investments we are making in our core business this year will give us an opportunity to continue delivering strong revenue growth throughout 2025,” CFO Susan Li said.
Also, expenses are projected to be higher. Meta expects 2025 total expenses to be in the range of $114 billion to $119 billion. That would be between 20% and 25% higher than 2024. The largest single largest driver of expenses is anticipated to be infrastructure costs followed by employee compensation. Meta plans to add technical talent in the priority areas of infrastructure, monetization, Reality Labs, generative artificial intelligence (AI), as well as regulation and compliance.
Further, 2025 capital expenditures will be in the range of $60 billion to $65 billion. That’s up significantly from $39 billion in 2024 – a 53% to 66% rise.
“We expect capital expenditures growth in 2025 will be driven by increased investment to support both our generative AI efforts and core business,” said Li.
It was also reported Wednesday, initially by the Wall Street Journal, as well as by NBC News, that Meta agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by President Trump in 2021. The lawsuit was over Meta’s decision to suspend Trump’s account after the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Of the $25 million settlement, $22 million will go to fund Trump’s library.
Meta stock has gotten off to a fast start in 2025, up about 19% already, year-to-date. Over the past 12 months it has gained roughly 75% and is trading at around $704 per share.
It also got a slew of price target upgrades after earnings, with Truist bumping it up $70 to $770 per share and TD Cowen raising it $95 to $785 per share. This would represent gains of 9% to 12%.
Meta’s P/E ratio is much lower than some of its Mag 7 peers at 32 with a forward P/E of 26. However, investors may want to look for a lower entry point to get in.
