Super Bowl 2025: *** kick-off time, teams, stadium, half-time show performer & will Taylor Swift attend?
In the major US sports leagues, a three-peat is when a team becomes national champions three years running.
It has been done five times in both basketball’s NBA and ice hockey’s NHL, and four times in Major League Baseball.
The Green Bay Packers have achieved two three-peats in the NFL, sealing the latter by winning the first two Super Bowls in 1967 and 1968, but no team has ever won three straight Super Bowls.
Before the Kansas City dynasty, there had been eight back-to-back champions in the Super Bowl era, with five of them reaching the play-offs the following season.
Three lost in the Conference Championships – effectively the Super Bowl semi-finals – with the Dallas Cowboys the most recent to go that far (1995), so the Chiefs have already gone closer than anyone else to a Super Bowl three-peat.
This is their fifth Super Bowl in six years, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid going for a fourth win.

NASA Finalises Crew for Axiom Space’s Fourth Private Astronaut Mission in 2025
NASA Finalises Crew for Axiom Space’s Fourth Private Astronaut Mission in 2025
NASA and its international collaborators have finalised the crew for Axiom Space’s fourth private astronaut mission, set to launch aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft no earlier than spring 2025. The mission, departing from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, will see four astronauts spending up to 14 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The crew includes former NASA astronaut and Axiom Space’s director of human spaceflight Peggy Whitson as commander, ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla as pilot, and mission specialists Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski from the European Space Agency (ESA) and Tibor Kapu from Hungary.
Private Astronaut Missions Expand Space Access
According to NASA’s International Space Station Program Manager Dana Weigel, private astronaut missions are contributing to advancements in low Earth orbit operations. Weigel said that these missions are helping pave the way for commercial space activities while increasing accessibility to microgravity research. This mission will mark the first time an ISRO astronaut will board the ISS as part of a joint effort between NASA and the Indian space agency. It will also be the first ISS stay for astronauts from Poland and Hungary.
Axiom Space’s Growing Role in Private Spaceflight
As reported, Axiom Space has been steadily expanding its private spaceflight program since its inaugural mission in April 2022. Each mission has varied in duration, with the most recent, Axiom Mission 3, remaining docked at the ISS for 18 days in January 2024. Whitson, who also commanded Axiom Mission 2 in May 2023, highlighted the significance of international partnerships in commercial spaceflight, stating that each mission brings new opportunities for participating nations.
Future of Low Earth Orbit Operations
NASA’s long-term objective involves fostering a sustainable commercial space economy, allowing the agency to focus resources on deep space exploration. The ISS continues to serve as a key testing ground for space research and technology, supporting both government-led and private-sector initiatives.

The Veilguard & Anthem and That Could Spell Trouble for Sucker Punch
The Veilguard & Anthem and That Could Spell Trouble for Sucker Punch
As we move into 2025, the buzz surrounding the Ghost of Yōtei has become palpable. Players are really excited about the sequel which is going to be set in 1603 Hokkaido, Japan, 329 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. This time, players are following a new fierce female warrior, Atsu.

The stakes are high, as expected. However, just when everything was sailing smoothly, news broke that two writers from Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Anthem are part of the team, raising some concerns. These writers come with a bit of baggage and as we all know, narrative is everything in a game like this.
Ghost of Yōtei: A new era for the series and the writing team
The involvement of the two writers has raised concerns. | Image Credit: Sucker Punch
It is clear from the get-go that Ghost of Yōtei is already forging its own path, seeking to leave Ghost of Tsushima behind. With Atsu at the helm, players will explore a new protagonist’s journey, making choices that impact the world around her as she steps into the early Edo *******.
From what the developers have hinted, players will be introduced to an open world that is more immersive and detailed. Additionally, with the ability to shape the narrative of the protagonist, it sounds like a perfect evolution of the series.
However, here’s where things become a little concerning. While Atsu’s character and the setting seem like a win, it’s the writing team behind her story that raises alarms in the back of their heads.
Recently, we learned that John Dombrow and Courtney Woods were two writers previously involved with Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Anthem. While these two titles had massive potential, their narratives left a lot to be desired.
Not only did both the games’ stories fail to connect to players, but it also made the world-building lackluster. It’s safe to say, that their past narrative work doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, especially for a story-driven game like Yōtei.
Ghost of Yotei is being written by the same people that wrote Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem, and Dragon Age Veilguard

— AKAustinTTV (@AKAustin01) February 2, 2025
After seeing this players were cautious as the narrative plays a very big role in single-player games. With Ghost of Yōtei promising a rich, emotionally charged journey, fans are hoping that the narrative won’t fall into the same traps that these writers’ previous projects did.
The challenge of meeting expectations
Writing needs to prove itself, otherwise the series will suffer. | Image Credit: Sucker Punch
There’s also the issue of expectations. As much as fans are excited about the new protagonist and the new setting, there’s always a lingering desire to see Jin Sakai’s story continue. After all, players invested so much time in his journey, that it’s tough to let go of the hope that his saga will continue.
The shift to Hokkaido and the Edo ******* brings a welcome change, but it’s still a little jarring for those hoping to see how Jin’s path unfolds. Players are cautiously optimistic, but here’s the thing: if Yōtei doesn’t hit the narrative highs of Tsushima, it could be a major letdown.
The pressure is on. Even though the gameplay looks amazing, and the setting is rich with possibilities, without an engaging, emotionally resonant story combining them all, it could not only fall short but also cast a shadow on the celebrated series.
Sucker Punch Productions has a lot riding on Yōtei, especially as it is a PS exclusive. While Dombrow and Woods aren’t the only ones working on the narrative, the question remains whether the studio can overcome the writers’ recent track record and craft a narrative that lives up to the high standards.
In the end, even though some players are worried, and for good reasons, there is still some enthusiasm in the community. They are waiting to see if the new title can challenge the epic and emotional impact the predecessor left on the players.

Modelo importer Constellation Brands gets a downgrade from Piper Sandler on U.S. tariffs
President Donald Trump’s tariff plans could put pressure on Constellation Brands , according to Piper Sandler. The firm downgraded the alcoholic beverage producer to neutral from overweight and lowered its price target to $200 per share from $245. Piper Sandler’s forecast implies about 11% upside from Friday’s $180.80 close. Trump over the weekend slapped a 25% levy on imports from Mexico and Canada, along with a 10% duty on ******** goods. Canada reacted with retaliatory tariffs of its own, while Mexico said it would explore duties on U.S. imports. Constellation Brands imports ******** beers Modelo, Corona and Pacifico, meaning these levies could put pressure on the company’s revenue. “We update our model to include a F1Q26 margin hit accordingly. However, if these tariffs lasted a full fiscal year, we recognize a potential $3.00-3.75 hit to F26E EPS, though potential pricing and volume headwinds make it difficult to estimate,” Michael Lavery said. The analyst added that Constellation could be one of the more patient players in the sector by not jumping to raise prices immediately. “Pricing may also provide an offset, but taking pricing is challenging (and difficult to assess) given that key competitors like TAP and BUD (not covered) produce in the US where no tariff cost applies,” he added. “For now, we assume STZ may wait to take pricing until it has better clarity on the duration of these tariffs.” STZ 1Y mountain Constellation Brands. Shares were more than 5% lower in the premarket on Monday. The stock has also been under pressure over the past year, losing 27%.

Naples police officers must know how to shoot their guns in darkness
Naples police officers must know how to shoot their guns in darkness
Smoke slowly drifted among several life-size human silhouettes, red and blue lights flashing continuously against the hovering white papers.
Uniformed officers, armed surrounded by darkness, shot round after round. The bangs that followed each trigger-pull echoed off the concrete walls of the Alamo.
Once a year, the Naples Police Department requires its officers to participate in the firearms qualification course.
The newest addition to the course is the implementation of night sights.
Although firearms training in low-light conditions is not a requirement for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s pistol qualification, the Naples Police Department prioritizes extensive training initiatives to ensure officers are prepared for any situation, Lt. Bryan McGinn of the Naples Police Department said.
Naples Police officers from front to back, Lt. Bryan McGinn, Sgt. Benjamin Vasquez and Master Officer Rey Reyes train at the firing range at The Alamo by Lotus Gunworks in Naples on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025. They were firearm training with the implementation of night sights. They were being trained by Lt. Seth Finman, firearms coordinator, Jacob Christenson,a firearms instructor and Sgt. Mike Harmeling, back left, a range instructor. All are Naples police officers.
While qualifications take place once a year, Naples police officers shoot their firearms in training 3-4 times a year, depending on schedules and budgeting.
McGinn said that the Naples Police Department exceeds state requirements for firearms training by about 200%, which is a percentage that doesn’t account for training that officers take on their own time with outside agencies.
“We train for all hazards, all situations. Although our crime rates are low and we have relatively very little violent crime, things happen,” McGinn said.
“We want to make sure that we train for the unknown. Our officers are comfortable and trained for whatever call they may get.”
In the last five years, the Naples Police Department has had zero officer-involved shootings, but preparedness is still a key concern.
With fewer than 11 hours of daylight, officers must adapt their skills to operate just as effectively in darkness as they do in daylight.
Every Monday last month, Naples police officers trained in a simulated low-light environment at the Alamo Range on Vanderbilt Beach Road in Naples.

They were firearm training with the implementation of night sights. In the foreground is firearms instructor, Jacob Christenson. Not pictured are Sgt. Mike Harmeling, a range instructor and Lt. Seth Finman, firearms coordinator. All are Naples police officers.
The training occurs in two-hour blocks with three to four officers at a time. All 76 sworn officers are required to participate.
The biggest challenge officers face when training in low-light conditions is recreating a real-life environment.

McGinn said the Naples Police Department is thankful for the partnership it has with the Alamo because officers have the opportunity to utilize a state-of-the-art facility where they can simulate real-life sensory conditions.
On one such Monday, firearms instructors Lt. Seth Finman, Sgt. Michael Harmeling and Officer Jacob Christienson led three officers through firearms training using the night sights that the Naples Police Department purchased and implemented into use just last year.
Night sights are tools that can be fixed onto firearms to enhance visibility of aiming points in low-light conditions. They are fixed onto guns and glow in a way that makes it easier to visualize with gun’s “sights”, which are small parts on a gun that help a shooter to accurately line up and aim at a target.

Per the updated Florida Department of Law Enforcement pistol qualification requirements, Lt. McGinn, Sgt. Benjamin Vasquez and Master Officer Rey Reyes are required to shoot 38 rounds, 33 of which must hit the target to pass.
Firearms instructors must hit the target for 36 out of the 38 rounds shot.

The updated training guides officers through various circumstances. They must practice shooting at their targets from various positions and distances.
Starting one yard from the target and gradually moving back to the 15-yard line, and stepping left or right from center-target, officers continually shot holes through the paper silhouettes with great accuracy.
McGinn said that officers must not only know how to shoot with both hands on the gun, but also one-handed with dominant and non-dominant hands, in case of circumstances such as sustaining an injury.
When selecting night sights, the Naples Police Department had its firearms instructors, who are “subject-matter experts,” research and determine which specialized industry standard products officers should use, McGinn said.

McGinn said that the feedback officers have provided upon using and training with the new night sights has been overwhelmingly positive.
In addition to the new Glock 45 pistols that the department bought last year, Naples police officers will train with night sights using rifles during this year as they approach their rifle qualification exam, another FDLE requirement.

This year’s Grammy winner for best video game soundtrack has been announced
This year’s Grammy award winner for the best video game soundtrack of the year has been announced.
During the award ceremony last night, it was announced that this year’s Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media went to Winifred Phillips’ score for Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.
Phillips has been composing the music for video games for two decades now, with her previous works including the scores for God of War, LittleBigPlanet 2 and 3, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation.
While Phillips has won numerous awards for her work over the years, it’s her music for Wizardry – Digital Eclipse‘s 3D remake of the classic 1981 RPG – that’s delivered her first ever Grammy award.
Wizardry’s score beat out fellow nominees Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (composed by Pinar Toprak), God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla (Bear McCreary), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (John Paesano) and Star Wars Outlaws (Wilbert Roget II).
This was the third time the Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media award had been featured in the Grammy Awards, having made its debut at the 2023 ceremony.
The inaugural winner of the award in 2023 was Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, followed by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in 2024.
Bear McCreary is the only composer to have been nominated for this particular Grammy for all three years it’s been running, but he’s yet to win one.
Elsewhere during the ceremony, jazz orchestra The 8-Bit Big Band was nominated in the Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals category for its cover of Persona 5 track Last Surprise, but failed to win the award.

MultiVersus director: Fans are ‘crossing the line’ by threatening devs after shutdown announcement
MultiVersus director: Fans are ‘crossing the line’ by threatening devs after shutdown announcement
The director of MultiVersus has criticised fans who have threatened the game’s developers following news it’s being shut down.
Last week Warner Bros Games and developer Player First Games announced that Season 5 of MultiVersus – which starts on Wednesday – will be the last, with the game shutting down on May 30.
At this point existing players will still be able to play an offline version of the game, but it will otherwise be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam and Epic Games Store.
Now, in a lengthy statement posted on X, director Tony Huynh thanked and apologised to players, before drawing his attention to those who have acted aggressively to the news.
“I know that this is painful for everyone, and I know every member of Player First Games feels it too, but I have to call this out,” Huynh wrote. “You’re entitled to what you say and think, but when there are threats to harm it’s crossing the line.
“I hope that you can take a step back and realize that this is an extremely sad time for the team. I am in deep mourning for the game. Nobody wanted this outcome and it wasn’t from lack of caring or effort.”
Hey all, I wanted to say a few words as I reflect on the recently announced news about MultiVersus. While I’m sad about the outcome, I will forever be grateful for the opportunity given to us by Warner Bros. Games and to each and every developer on the Player First Games and WB…
— Tony Huynh (@Tony_Huynh) February 2, 2025
Addressing players’ complaints that some commonly requested characters weren’t included in the game while others were, Huynh explained that it wasn’t possible to include everything and that the game was a collaborative process.
“I’m sorry if we couldn’t get to your favorite character,” he wrote. Referring to Season 5’s upcoming characters, he added: “I do think Aquaman and Lola are really cool and I hope you all check them out.
“Character selection comes down to bunch of things including development time, listening to what the community wants, working with IP holders and approvals, if there is a cross-marketing opportunity available to support, and of course if the team is inspired to make the character. So a lot goes into to it.”
He added: “I don’t have the power some you think I do. PFG is a highly collaborative team and ideas are encouraged and can come from anyone and we promote delivering value to players. I also hope that the community notices that we try to listen and act. Like any developer we’re limited by time and resources.”
Players continue to voice their concerns at the way the game is being closed down, with some complaining that the Founder’s Packs – particularly the $99.99 Premium Founder’s Pack – originally released during the game’s first run in 2022 promised them character unlock tokens, but the game will now end before enough characters have been introduced.
Real money transactions are no longer available in the game as of last week, but players with remaining Gleamium currency and character tokens can continue to spend them on in-game content until the game goes offline on May 30. Players will not be refunded for any Gleamium or other content purchased with real money.

These 10 magnesium-rich foods have benefits for sleep, heart health and blood sugar
These 10 magnesium-rich foods have benefits for sleep, heart health and blood sugar
Too often overlooked, magnesium is an essential micronutrient that plays a role in all kinds of bodily systems. If you’re not getting enough, you might develop muscle cramps and even heart issues, dietitians say.
“Magnesium is a vital mineral,” registered dietitian Grace Derocha tells TODAY.com.
“It’s involved in a lot of different physiological functions of our body,” says Derocha, who is a spokesperson for the National Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. That includes everything from metabolism, muscle and nerve function and bone health to regulating your blood sugar and heart health.
Magnesium has also gotten a lot of attention recently for its ability to help regulate sleep, and magnesium powder is a key ingredient in the TikTok-favorite “sleepy girl mocktail.”
How much magnesium should you eat?
Many of us aren’t getting quite enough magnesium in our diets.
The recommended daily amount of magnesium depends on your age, Derocha says, but generally adult men should aim for 400-430 milligrams per day while adult women should try to get 310-320 milligrams each day.
“We’re generally not meeting those requirements,” Shelly Wegman, registered dietitian at UNC Rex Nutrition Services, tells TODAY.com. “It depends on the quality of your diet.”
A lot of people don’t get enough magnesium because it’s found in green leafy vegetables, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds and whole grains — foods that often get left out of the traditional American diet.
“So if you’re not eating a varied diet, it can be really easy to miss out on (magnesium),” Wegman says.
Another challenge is that the body only absorbs 30-50% of the magnesium we take in, Derocha says, and “if your gut microbiome is not the healthiest, it can affect your magnesium absorption.” That’s why it’s always a good idea to keep magnesium in mind — and to keep aiming for those daily amounts.
Luckily, we can get a good amount of magnesium directly from food. And foods that are rich in magnesium — like nuts, seeds and dark leafy greens — have plenty of other great benefits, too, dietitians say.
Health benefits of magnesium
Magnesium is an essential mineral, meaning we need it to keep our bodies functioning properly.
First, magnesium helps with metabolism and energy. Magnesium is a co-factor for enzymes that help create ATP, the body’s primary energy source, Derocha says. “So that’s a pretty cut-and-dry reason why we need magnesium for muscle and nerve function,” she adds.
This mineral also plays an important role in regulating muscle contractions and, therefore, preventing muscle cramps. Along with other minerals like potassium and calcium, magnesium is part of the “electrolyte family,” Derocha says, so keep magnesium in mind when rehydrating after a workout.
Magnesium’s role as an electrolyte also has impacts on heart health, Derocha says, and having an adequate intake of magnesium is associated with a reduced risk for heart disease and lower blood pressure.
Not getting enough magnesium increases your risk for sudden cardiac death and atrial fibrillation, Wegman adds.
Magnesium is also a major player in bone health. In fact, up to 60% of the magnesium in our bodies is stored in bones, “so it helps contribute to bone density, especially for women,” Derocha explains.
If you’re keeping tabs on blood sugar, magnesium is part of the equation there, too: It “helps improve our insulin sensitivity, therefore helping to metabolize glucose,” Derocha says.
Finally, when it comes to sleep and relaxation, magnesium helps the body regulate both the natural production of melatonin and the action of GABA, a hormone neurotransmitter involved in many nervous system processes.
“Low levels of GABA can really reduce sleep quality and give you a little bit more anxiety,” Derocha says. “Who wants that?”
Some people are particularly at risk for not getting enough magnesium, Wegman says, including older adults, people with gastrointestinal conditions (like irritable bowel disease) and those with alcohol use disorders.
Foods high in magnesium
You can find good amounts of magnesium in a lot of healthy foods. In general, the dietitians say, opt for whole foods over processed foods, particularly nuts, seeds, dark leafy greens and legumes.
Here are some foods that contain the highest levels of magnesium per serving:
Pumpkin seeds
Considered one of the healthiest seeds you can eat, an ounce of pumpkin seeds will grant you a whopping 156 milligrams of magnesium. That serving will also provide 8 grams of plant-based protein along with fiber, calcium and zinc.
Quinoa
While often used as a grain, quinoa is technically a seed and, therefore, packed with a little more nutrition than your average bowl of rice. Along with the fiber, healthy **** and protein you’d expect from a seed, a cup of cooked quinoa comes with 118 milligrams of magnesium.
Chia seeds
Chia seeds are packed with fiber and protein, and an ounce of the little seeds will also give you 111 milligrams of magnesium. For a fiber- and magnesium-rich breakfast, try one of Derocha’s favorite dishes: chia seed pudding. If you’re not ready to fully commit to chia seeds yet, try sprinkling them into overnight oats for a similarly easy breakfast.
Almonds
Grab a handful of almonds for a satisfying, crunchy snack. Just one ounce of almonds will provide about 80 milligrams of magnesium, plus protein, fiber and a good amount of vitamin E.
Spinach
It’s no secret that dark leafy greens like spinach, chard and kale are great for you. While they’ll all contain some magnesium, spinach is the standout: One half-cup of cooked spinach (about one or two cups raw), will contain around 78 milligrams of magnesium, Derocha says.
Cashews
Along with almonds, cashews are a wonderfully magnesium-rich nut. You’ll find about 74 milligrams of magnesium in an ounce of cashews. And, due to their softer texture, you’ll find cashews as a stand-in for dairy in many vegan cheeses.
****** beans
Legumes like ****** beans are known for being high in fiber and a plant-based, filling protein, but they also come with a dose of magnesium — about 60 milligrams per half-cup. ****** beans are also a great source of iron and folate.
Avocado
A go-to source of heart-healthy fats and vitamin E, a serving of avocado also provides some magnesium. In a whole medium avocado, you’ll get 58 milligrams of magnesium. And in a standard serving (a third of an avocado), you’ll still get about 15 milligrams.
Dark chocolate
Yes, dessert can be a source of magnesium, too! Look to dark chocolate — in the range of 70-85% cocoa — for a dose of this mineral. One ounce of dark chocolate provides about 50 milligrams of magnesium.
Salmon
While fish, meat and poultry are generally not the best food sources of magnesium, salmon does provide a relatively good amount, Derocha says. You’ll get 26 milligrams of magnesium in 3 ounces of cooked salmon. Of course, salmon has other benefits, too, including heart-healthy fats and satisfying protein.
Mix and match to make magnesium-rich meals
Looking at the list above, it’s probably easy to see how to fit some of these foods into your meals for more magnesium.
And, the dietitians say, you can start putting magnesium-rich foods together in a meal to get even more of this essential mineral at once.
For instance:
Top your chia seed pudding with berries, nuts and seeds.
Add ****** beans and avocado to a whole-grain wrap or quesadilla.
Enjoy a white bean and spinach chili or soup.
Top your avocado toast with some pumpkin seeds and spices.
These meals are all packed with magnesium. So, with a little planning, “it’s really not hard to meet those guidelines,” Wegman says.

Australia dynamo Travis Head crowned Allan Border Medallist
Australia dynamo Travis Head crowned Allan Border Medallist
Travis Head can recall the crossroads innings which kickstarted his dazzling international career and played a crucial role in his Allan Border Medal triumph on Monday night.
Head, who was in and out of the international team in the early stages of his career, pinpointed the innings he found “clarity” in how he wanted to attack bowlers.
He understood and accepted it could have been the end for him at Test level but was willing to take the risk.
The trademark aggression paid off that day – as he smashed England to all parts – and has paid off even more since, with him now recognised among some of Australia’s greatest players.
“It goes back to that Ashes series in ‘21, whether or not I had clarity it was going to work,” Head said with a laugh.
“I had clarity on how I wanted to do it, that was never guaranteed to have success, I am very fortunate and very lucky it was able to pay off on the first day I tried to make that shift.
“I had done it in the domestic season leading up to that but Test cricket is a different kettle of fish.
“I had clarity on what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted to go about it but that’s never guaranteed, it could have been one more series and back to South Australia.
“I understood that, I was fine with that, if it was 25 Tests and done, at least I gave it a crack – I am very pleased it worked that day.”

Head polled 208 votes to pip Josh Hazlewood (158 votes) and Pat Cummins (147) who finished second and third respectively.
Head, 31, claimed the One-Day International Player of the Year and finished second in the Twenty20 and Test Player of the Year awards.
He fell just one vote short of equalling Hazlewood in the Test gong and three behind Adam Zampa in the Twenty20 Player of the Year award.
Head slammed 1,427 runs across all formats during the eligibility ******* which was an impressive 621 more than second-best Steven Smith.
Head led Australia’s runs tally in Tests and Twenty20s while he finished second in the One-Day International count despite playing half as many games as first-placed Smith.
Head’s three Test hundreds during the *******, including the two series-shaping tons against India, eventually helped him claim the top award as he polled maximum votes in both of those matches.
Head quickly referred to the past 12 months as “busy” when asked how he would assess the campaign.

He said he would reflect on the Allan Border Medal at the end of his career but, in the short time, would look back on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy win more fondly.
“It’s nice to get the reward of that individually but I think as a team we’ve done an exceptional job,” he said.
“I’ve said for a while that that (the team) is the only thing that concerns me but it will be nice to look back on.
“I feel like the Indian series (was my highlight), the Test series just gone, it was nice to contribute – it was such a big five, six weeks.
“I know I said I felt every bit of it but to contribute and also get through that on the winning side of it was very satisfying.
“When you go through, look at your career and what series you played in, individually if I did well or not, it still goes down as one of the best I’ve been involved in.”
Hazlewood took out the Shane Warne Test Player of the Year Award for the first time while playing just six games.
He took 30 wickets at an average of 13 during the eligibility *******, which was cut short by an injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Zampa spun his way to the Twenty20 top gong with 35 wickets — 14 more than the next best.
The leg-spinner also took the most wickets in One-Day Internationals to run sixth in that award.

Denmark PM repeats that Greenland is not for *****
BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Greenland is not for *****, Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen said on Monday, after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last week that President Donald Trump’s interest in acquiring the island was “not a joke”.
“Greenland is today a part of the kingdom of Denmark. It is part of our territory, and it’s not for *****,” she said ahead of an informal EU leaders meeting in Brussels.
Trump has said he would make the autonomous territory of Denmark a part of the United States, and has not ruled out using military or economic power to persuade Denmark to hand it over.

Spain football kiss ‘stained’ World Cup win, Hermoso tells Rubiales trial
Spain football kiss ‘stained’ World Cup win, Hermoso tells Rubiales trial
Jenni Hermoso has told the trial of former Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales that the kiss he gave her at the 2023 World Cup “stained one of the happiest days of my life”.
Rubiales, the former president of Spain’s football federation, went on trial in Madrid on Monday over the kiss, accused of ******* assault and coercion.
Appearing as the trial’s first witness, Hermoso said: “My boss was kissing me, and this shouldn’t happen in any social or work setting.”
Rubiales sparked major controversy when he kissed the athlete on the lips while the players received their World Cup medals in Australia, triggering protests and calls for his resignation.
Hermoso told the court that she had never given permission to be kissed.
“I didn’t hear or understand anything,” she said.
“The next thing he did was to grab me by the ears and kiss me on the mouth.”
She went on: “A kiss on the lips is only given when I decide so”.
Prosecutors are calling for Rubiales, 47, to receive a one-year prison sentence for ******* assault.
They are also calling for him to be given a sentence of a year-and-a-half for coercion, for allegedly trying to pressure Hermoso into saying publicly that the kiss was consensual.
Rubiales denies the charges.
At the time, Rubiales said the kiss had been consensual and denounced a so-called witch-hunt by “fake feminism,” before resigning from his position.
Three of his former colleagues are also on trial accused of coercing Hermoso into saying the kiss was consensual.
Jorge Vilda, coach of the World Cup-winning side, Rubén Rivera, the federation’s former head of marketing, and former sporting director, Albert Luque all deny the charges.
The trial runs until 19 February.

Run machine Head convincingly wins first Border medal
Run machine Head convincingly wins first Border medal
Sheer weight of runs was the key as Travis Head became the first South *********** to win the Allan Border Medal.
Currently playing on the Test tour of Sri Lanka, Head accepted the prestigious award as the best *********** men’s cricketer at the *********** team’s beachside hotel in Galle.
That’s some 8,000km away from the awards ceremony on Monday night at Melbourne’s Crown Casino.
The 31-year-old – who also claimed the one-day international award for the first time – had been the favourite to claim the AB Medal for the first time.
Test and One Day International captain Pat Cummins appeared his closest competition, having been named skipper of the ICC’s Test team of the year for 2024.
But Head was clearly Australia’s form batter of the past 12 months with 1427 runs across the three formats at an average of 42.24.
Steve Smith had the next-most with 806 between Australia’s home Test series against West Indies last January and the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Head posted three Test centuries during the voting *******, as many as the remaining *********** batters.
Perhaps most memorably, Head made 140 runs in front of his home crowd in Adelaide to help reignite Australia’s series against India after a heavy loss in the first Test.
Asked for the highlight of his past 12 months, head said: “I feel like the Indian series, the Test series that’s just gone.
“Nice to contribute. It’s such a big five or six weeks.”
Head becomes the first South *********** to win the Allan Border Medal, a little more than three years after storming back into the Test team during the 2021-22 Ashes.
He made 152 runs at better than a run a ball in his comeback knock in Brisbane, flagging his reinvention into an aggressive ball-striker the summer after being dumped from Cricket Australia’s contract list.
“It quite easily could have been one more series and back to South Australia. So I understood that. I was fine with that,” Head said.
“If it was 25 Tests and done, at least I gave it a crack. Very pleased it worked that day.”
Head has continued to provide Australia’s batting order with much-needed aggression, whether as an opener in Asia or in the middle-order at home, and credited that Ashes knock in Brisbane for sparking the success that has followed.
“I was very fortunate, very lucky that was able to pay off on the first day,” he said.
“Very pleased with how consistent I’ve been at playing this role that I’ve played.”
Head was equally proud to have found success as a multi-format player, having returned to the international white-ball frame in 2022 after more than three years in the wilderness.
He was memorably player of the match in the triumphant final of the 2023 one day international World Cup and was third top scorer at the Twenty20 World Cup last year despite Australia failing to make the semi-finals.
“The last couple of years have been very pleasing, the fact that I’ve been able to be in all three formats, play well, be consistent but also be durable enough to get through,” Head said.

‘Assessment’ work in UNC Asheville woods sparks fear, frustration among neighbors
‘Assessment’ work in UNC Asheville woods sparks fear, frustration among neighbors
ASHEVILLE – Clambering over downed trees and walking along the trails that thread the 45-acre property in January, Starr Silvis Metcalf pointed to the new disturbances that have appeared in recent weeks — excavator tracks, boreholes and cut vegetation.
Work at the beloved wooded parcel, located on UNC Asheville property in the Five Points neighborhood, raised immediate red flags for neighbors. Pushing for answers resulted in a statement from the university Jan. 16 that said UNCA was “taking steps to better understand the characteristics of 90 acres of undeveloped portions” of its property, which spokesperson Brian Hart confirmed included the wooded parcels.
It billed the work as a “thorough exploratory assessment.”
“No decisions regarding development have been made at this time,” the statement said.
In an update released Jan. 31, the university said it has completed soil boring and sampling and remaining assessment work is now limited to land surveying to confirm the property’s boundaries, which is expected to continue for a few additional weeks. It will necessitate the removal of some brush, the statement said, but no trees.
Ongoing assessment work at a 45-acre property owned by UNC Asheville in the Five Points neighborhood of North Asheville Jan 21, 2025.
Metcalf has spent two decades traversing the woods, sometimes referred to as the “experimental forest.” It is bounded to the west by Broadway Street and WT Weaver Boulevard to the north and comprised of three parcels. The chancellor’s house and a USDA Forest Service research station sit on the northern side, closer to central campus.
The neighborhood was hard hit by Tropical Storm Helene, Metcalf said. While some trees and vegetation have been newly cut in recent weeks, others were knocked down in the storm’s high winds — trees torn from the earth, exposing muddy tangles of root systems.
When both her children were born, on their first day back from the hospital, Metcalf said she walked the woods with them. On that recent warm winter afternoon, she came upon her oldest, Simon, now 17, around the bend of a trail. Their dog, Balto, ran to Simon, ecstatic.
“Their entire life, they’ve been in these woods,” Metcalf said. “I love this area. And I’ve done everything I can to help it grow in a way that is best for everybody. And to see this, right on top of Helene, is really disappointing.”
As community frustrations mounted around ongoing work, the university’s board of trustees approved a resolution Jan. 27 affirming the chancellor’s decision to authorize assessment of the land.
At a virtual special meeting Jan. 27 of UNCA’s Board of Trustees, Chair Roger Aiken read the resolution, which reiterated it was an exploratory process and no decisions around future development had been made.
It was unanimously adopted by the five board members present.

A ‘community spot’
Near the Dortch Avenue trailhead, at the southern end of UNCA’s campus, a group of neighbors converged Jan. 29 on the dirt path, dogs straining on leashes to greet each other.
It was a chance meeting, but the kind that happens often in the woods. For the dogs’ respective owners, greetings are waylaid by volleys of information — fresh tree cuttings spotted down the path; equipment parked and idle; the fear of work near a tree suspected to house great horned owls.
The group, among them Metcalf and another neighbor, Chris Cotteta, spent a minute discussing plans. Most visit the woods daily to walk dogs and observe wildlife, like hawks and the family of bears that frequent the property. It is among the largest remaining urban forests in Asheville, Metcalf said.

“It’s our community spot. There is so much heart here,” said Alix Doddridge, an organizer of the “Save the Woods” effort. In mid-January, the Facebook page had 10 members. Now it has 2,600. A petition calling for the forest’s preservation has garnered more than 6,800 signatures. Fliers and yard signs pepper the surrounding neighborhoods.
Doddridge described the woods as an “oasis,” one that would be “heartbreaking” to lose.
UNCA’s Jan. 31 statement said following the soil boring and associated tree removal, additional tree removal that was unrelated to the assessment took place on the northwestern edge of the property as part of its Helene response.
Tree removal has concluded in the area, it said.
“The University is also aware of concerns regarding the presence of owls on the property,” the statement said. “The University has cooperated with contractors to evaluate this concern and ensure that any nests, if identified, are not disturbed.”
Permits?
The city’s Development Services Director Mark Matheny said there is no recent permitting activity recorded for those parcels through the city. He said that permitting for university owned land would occur through the state — N.C. Department of Environmental Quality for site work and the State Construction Office for buildings and structures.
Hart said Jan. 27 that no permits were required nor issued for the assessment work.

NCDEQ spokesperson Kat Russell confirmed its regional office staff did not find any active erosion and sediment control permits for those parcels.
“As with all the University’s assets, we routinely evaluate the properties we own to better inform our decision making as it relates to the best interests of our students, employees, and the community,” Hart told the Citizen Times via email Jan. 24.
“As to the work currently being done on the property, it is a thorough exploratory assessment to better understand the characteristics of it, including boundaries, topography, soil composition, and utilities. We expect the assessment to be completed in the next few weeks.”
The Jan. 16 statement from UNCA said that in keeping with commitments to transparency and collaboration, as options are being finalized, the university will host listening sessions to share information about potential plans and gather input from community.

When did work begin?
Doddridge sounded the alarm in mid-January, as did Metcalf, who sent a letter to the Chancellor’s Office and other university leadership asking for information.
Several neighbors said they first noticed activity Jan. 13 as an excavator began to clear paths that were later used as access roads for boring equipment. At first, some couched the work as debris clearing after Helene, but said they soon learned otherwise.
Mounds of pale dirt and trunks painted with numbers demarcate the boreholes. The highest Metcalf has spotted is No. 24.
Downed and cut trees in the 45-acre property owned by UNC Asheville in the Five Points neighborhood of North Asheville Jan 21, 2025.
Metcalf, an environmental engineer, said the work on the property goes beyond a survey and assessment.
“To do this kind of work, you need to have some idea of what goals you have, and what needs you’re trying to meet,” she said. On a meandering walk through the woods, with Balto traipsing at her heels, she pointed to churned earth from the excavator, to snapped and sawed tree limbs and vegetation, and new paths cleared through underbrush.
The work feels “significant,” she said, not consistent with the statement that posits removing a minimal number of trees and collecting soil samples.
“The words don’t match the actions,” she said.
A flier in the Five Points neighborhood of North Asheville Jan 29, 2025.
Past plans to develop
In her 20 years neighboring the property, Metcalf said she’s no stranger to proposed developments there. In the past, UNCA sent letters to neighbors notifying them of prospective work, she said.
They held listening sessions. She herself helped facilitate brainstorming in 2004 when the university proposed building a 2.5-acre parking lot on the property.
A guest column from then-Chancellor Jim Mullen, which ran in the Citizen Times in May 2004, said after several meetings with neighbors and the city of Asheville, and a thorough analysis of options, UNCA determined it would not have to use the south campus property for parking.
It would, however, under guidance of the Board of Trustees, develop a long-term, land-management plan for the 100 acres of university property contiguous to the central campus, the woods among them.
A guest commentary by then-UNCA Chancellor Jim Mullen in the Asheville Citizen Times May 29, 2004.
“Community conversations will be part of these efforts,” Mullen wrote. “We must resist the temptation that is too often acted upon nationally to assume the worst of each other, accuse each other and question each other’s motives.”
In 2008, another story detailed the construction on the new chancellor’s residence, or Pisgah House, which sits on the northwest corner of the land, near the intersection of WT Weaver Boulevard and Broadway Street. The article, published that September, noted the site’s “history of generating some controversy with students and neighbors.”
While some neighbors and residents opposed the development, according to the article, “others say UNCA has made a genuine effort to notify them of their plans and be environmentally sensitive.”

What now?
“It almost feels like a different woods,” Cotteta, vice president of the Five Points Neighborhood Association, told the Citizen Times Jan. 27. Since the work began, some of the wood’s trails are changed or overlaid with excavator tread. New paths lead nowhere. Neighbors fear impacts to wildlife and native plants.
With new clearings, caution tape along trees and stakes in the ground, Doddridge likened it to a “construction zone.”
Cotteta maintains the university has not been transparent. In light of the lack of communication, he said it is hard to take comfort in the Trustees’ promises.
“What we really want is to have this land preserved forever, because it’s something that is really special,” he said. “It’s really meaningful to the people who live here. It’s meaningful to the students and faculty of UNCA. And it’s very meaningful to the city of Asheville for our climate resilience, especially in the wake of hurricane Helene.”
