Vietnam Air Traffic Management modernises comms for improved safety
Safety is the overwhelming priority for all parties involved in the business of aviation around the world, and as part of its plan to improve security and reliability in the south region of the country, and support modern applications required for operating highly reliable services to serve rapidly growing air traffic, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has revealed it is to replace its legacy transport system with an advanced transport network.
The first civil aviation administration of Vietnam came into life in 1956, and VATM was formed in 1993 to provide air navigation services in the flight information regions of Vietnam.
VATM’s main responsibility is to provide air navigation services for all civil and military aircrafts (as delegated) operating at airports across the nation, within the flight information regions under control of Vietnam and other airspace when authorised. These services include air traffic control services; flight information services; advisory services and alerting services; communication, navigation and surveillance services; aeronautical information services; aeronautical meteorological services; and search and rescue services.
The two flight information regions of which VATM is responsible, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh FIRs, cover an area of airspace up to 1,098,516 square kilometres, including 36 international and 24 domestic ATS routes, and seven international and 14 domestic airports. Among those are some the county’s busiest airports – Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
In the ******* to 2030, VATM’s objective is to develop into a large-scale enterprise, meeting air traffic control requirements of reliable service quality, as well as ensuring the utmost safety for all flights operating in its area of responsibilities. By this time, it aims to be able to provide air navigation services services for triple the number of flights managed in 2010.
The modernisation will see VATM replace a legacy synchronous digital hierarchy with Nokia IP/MPLS technology designed for aviation. This is intended to provide an advanced transmission system to Ho Chi Minh City’s Air Traffic Control Centre, which will deliver mission critical applications to enhance Air Traffic Control. The newly upgraded transport network will be compliant with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s standard, and is set to be operational in the second quarter of 2025.
“Air traffic networks need to be exceptionally secure and reliable at all times to ensure the highest standards of safety are met,” said Ho Sy Tung, deputy general director at VATM. “Nokia comes with extensive experience in air navigation, with 20 air traffic control networks deployed worldwide. We are impressed by the quality and performance of Nokia’s IP/MPLS networking solution and are looking forward to the successful completion of this crucial initiative in the coming year.”
Nokia said its service offers VATM advanced network capabilities such as advanced analytics, simplifying operations and improving network performance. The IP/MPLS network also has the objective of delivering increased flexibility and programmability, supporting critical applications that enhance overall air traffic management efficiency and safety.
In addition, Nokia is confident that the Quantum-Safe Network (QSN)-ready infrastructure will provide unparalleled security and reliability to VATM and the ability to evolve to defend against quantum threats.
“Our mission-critical network solutions are trusted worldwide, delivering exceptional performance and reliability,” added Jonathan Goh, head of enterprise business and network infrastructure for Southeast Asia North at Nokia. “With embedded QSN capabilities, Nokia’s IP/MPLS technology will enhance the safety and operational efficiency of Vietnam’s air traffic network.”

‘I’m Still Here’ | Anatomy of a Scene
‘I’m Still Here’ | Anatomy of a Scene
Hi, I’m Walter Salles, and I’m the Director of “I’m Still Here.” We are 30 minutes into the film, in the family home at the heart of the story. Eunice Paiva is portrayed by Fernanda Torres and Rubens Paiva by Selton Mello. Everything here conveys a sense of normalcy: the light, the sounds from the beach, the intimacy of the dialogue. But then this harmony is broken by the invasion of the house, by military police. Now hand-held, the camera relays the instability of the situation, pulsing with the characters. Rubens is told that he will be taken for an interrogation. He tries to feign that the situation is under control, but we sense it’s not. For the first time in the film, Eunice’s vulnerability surfaces. It is from here that Eunice’s arc begins to take shape. From this point onward, the entire scene revolves around subtraction. Subtraction of light as the curtains are shut, subtraction of sounds from the outside. Subtraction of music. When one of the couple’s five kids, Nalu, enters the house with a friend, both Eunice and the military officers try to pretend that normalcy still exists, but it no longer does. Nalu, played by Barbara Luz, leads us to the father’s room. It’s a vital scene, the last conversation between a father and his daughter, staged as the real Nalu told me it happened. There’s a strange intimacy in this exchange, underlined by the daughter’s affection and the father’s desire to prolong this moment. And then we understand why the intimacy was illusory. This is an improv created on the spot with actor Luiz Bertazzo He begins to peek into the family’s intimacy. Moments like this breathe life into the sequence. Rubens reappears, preparing to be taken away for questioning. He tries once again to create a sense of ordinariness. Here, the last embrace between Rubens and Eunice is framed by the military officers, emphasizing a sense of suffocation in what was once a safe place, the family house. This is the first of the only two close-ups in the entire film. We saved it for the last glance between Rubens and Eunice. From here on, we are with her. “I’m Still Here” becomes her film.

Records tumbling for ‘all-time great’ Steve Smith
Records tumbling for ‘all-time great’ Steve Smith
Records are tumbling for subcontinent superhero Steve Smith.
After bringing up 10,000 Test runs during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, in-form Smith’s unbeaten 120 ensured he overtook Ricky Ponting to become Australia’s top Test run-scorer in Asia on day two of the second.
Smith needed 27 runs to pass Ponting’s mark of 1889, and hit his landmark 1890th run with a single to long on from spinner Nishan Peiris 15 minutes after lunch.
Ponting’s tally came from 48 innings at 41.97, with Smith surpassing the Tasmanian in his 42nd innings at an average of 53.59 at stumps on day two.
Smith has now made 1983 runs in Asia after forging a 239-run stand with Alex Carey (139no) that put Australia 73 runs ahead of their hosts at 3-330.
The day before the Test began, Smith had winced at the thought of another batting milestone.
He had earlier admitted to becoming preoccupied with the 10,000-run mark, which he missed celebrating in the home summer by one run.
Smith almost came up short again of the Asian milestone in Galle, surviving an lbw appeal on the first ball he faced.
On 12, he edged just short of first slip from Prabath Jaysuriya’s bowling in the first session, before successfully reviewing when umpire Joel Wilson gave him out lbw four runs short of the record.
Smith continued to make history late in the day, bringing up a seventh century on the subcontinent by hitting through midwicket for four.
“To be able to focus for 250 ****** in these conditions, it’s another 100 to his CV, and going down as an all-time great,” Carey said.
No *********** has made more tons in Asia, with legendary Test captain Allan Border (six) now in second place.
Smith has also made the most Test centuries of any *********** player away from home, his 17 eclipsing Ponting’s 16.
En route to his latest ton, the 35-year-old proved you could teach an old dog new tricks, rolling out the reverse sweep to hit spinner Ramesh Mendis for four at one stage.
“It certainly surprised me when he went the reverse sweep without a helmet on. He’s got some nice teeth, which aren’t cheap,” Carey joked.
“That’s the quality of the player, he’s able to problem solve on the go.”
It was the stand-in captain’s fourth hundred in his past five matches, and fourth in his last five matches in Sri Lanka.
Smith averages better than 50 in Tests in each of Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan.
On day one, he also passed Ponting for taking the most catches by any non-wicketkeeping *********** (197).

Not everybody loves Nick Sirianni, but all the Eagles coach does is win
Not everybody loves Nick Sirianni, but all the Eagles coach does is win
The screams startled everyone on the field — and everyone in the stands.
It wasn’t yet 9 in the morning and Nick Sirianni was livid. This was back in July 2019, midway through one of those early training camp practices that never seem to end. The sun was stifling, the crowd quiet, and Sirianni, then the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator, was steaming. His players looked tired and unprepared. Someone whiffed on a block. Someone dropped a pass. Someone ran the wrong route. Finally, Sirianni halted the practice.
“ENOUGH!” he shouted. “YOU NEED TO STUDY YOUR SH—!”
Heads turned. Eyes shot up. An uneasy silence lingered for a few moments.
It was a telling snapshot into Sirianni’s abrasive coaching style — the man runs hot. Always has.
“Man, he ain’t changed one bit,” says wide receiver Parris Campbell, who was on the field that day as a Colts rookie and now plays for Sirianni in Philadelphia. “He still does the same thing with us.”
Sirianni’s fire, plenty of his players say, seeps its way into the locker room and ratchets up the intensity, no matter if it’s a sleepy July morning in Westfield, Ind., or halftime of the NFC Championship Game. “That’s what makes him good at his job … wait, I shouldn’t say good — great at his job,” Eagles wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead said. “Our team is an extension of him. That’s why we play so freaking hard.”
“That’s one of the reasons I wanted him on my staff,” former Colts coach Frank Reich said.
GO DEEPER
Chiefs hold off Bills to set up Super Bowl rematch with Eagles, keep 3-peat bid alive
When Sirianni left Indianapolis to take over in Philadelphia in 2021, the spotlight got *******, the roster got better and the scrutiny got more severe. The eruptions didn’t stop — now they’re just more public. The coach can’t help himself. He can be emotional. Impulsive. Petty.
After a 2022 win over a terrible Colts team, Sirianni bolted to the stands and shouted, “That sh— was for Frank Reich!” (who had been fired weeks earlier) at the home crowd. A year later, after beating the Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, Sirianni couldn’t help but gloat on his way to the locker room. “I don’t hear sh— anymore, Chiefs fans!” he screamed in the tunnel. “See ya!”
This season he took aim at his own fan base, seemingly taunting the home crowd in the final minutes of a sloppy 20-16 Week 6 win over the Browns. A month later, a testy postgame exchange between Sirianni and Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz, a former Eagles star, required the two to be separated.
“He’s always gonna be feisty,” says Philadelphia left tackle Jordan Mailata. “That’s just Nick. What you see is what you get.”
Is he intense? No doubt.
Bombastic? At times.
Juvenile? You can make the case.
“Yelling at our fans after the game against the Browns, that one ******* me off,” says Edward Wakeley, a lifelong Eagles diehard who made the trip to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX. “Look, you barely beat the Browns. Chill out a little bit, OK?
“But I think he represents the city. He’s pretty brash, pretty aggressive, like most of us.”
The Browns game incident doused gasoline on a fire that was already lit. Fans at Lincoln Financial Field had been chanting “Fire Nick” during the contest. The “Fire Nick Sirianni” websites that popped up amid last season’s desultory finish gained traction.
The coach with a 37-19 record to that point was asked on a radio show about his job security. One radio host ranted: “If I’m (owner) Jeffrey Lurie, I’m calling Nick Sirianni into my office and giving him an ultimatum: You apologize to the fan base or you pack your office and leave. … We have a distraction at the head-coaching spot.” ESPN’s Damien Woody took it a step further, calling Sirianni “a clown.”
The 43-year-old coach, who apologized for his antics after the Cleveland game, knows the rep he’s earned.
“I have no doubt that I’m different than other head coaches, but I am myself,” Sirianni said earlier this week. “I don’t try to conform to anything other than who I actually am.”
And he wins. At an alarming rate. Sirianni’s 48-20 regular-season record four seasons into his career is the best start for any coach hired since 2000. He’s the only coach to lead the Eagles to two Super Bowls (Andy Reid, Doug Pederson and ***** Vermeil each led them to one) and only the third coach in league history to reach the big game twice in his first four seasons (joining Mike Tomlin and Joe Gibbs).

Reich saw it before anyone else, back when he was the Chargers’ OC and Sirianni his wide receivers coach. Reich sometimes delegated during meetings, asking his assistants to explain certain concepts to the players. Sirianni was as skilled at it as anyone in the building. Through a series of video cut-ups, he made the players care about fundamentals and technique. He made them understand the why behind offensive patterns, not just the what.
“He was exceptional — we’re talking elite — at explaining what we were doing,” Reich said. “This wasn’t a lecture. Guys really got into it. And ultimately that’s what players want: a coach who can make them better.”
When Reich landed the Colts’ head-coaching job in 2018, he told general manager Chris Ballard they needed to do “whatever it takes” to get Sirianni as his offensive coordinator. Three years later, when Lurie and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman called Reich to inquire about Sirianni’s head-coaching potential, the conversations stretched for hours. Reich could tell the Philly brass had done their homework. Sirianni had impressed them.
“When they get into their process, Howie and Mr. Lurie are relentless in their due diligence, as good as any team out there,” said Reich, the Eagles’ OC from 2016-17. “They talk to everybody.”
Since Sirianni landed in Philadelphia, the Eagles have made four playoff trips in four years. They have a chance to claim the franchise’s second Super Bowl come Sunday. Still, a question often asked around Philadelphia — How much of the Eagles’ staggering success is Sirianni actually responsible for? — lingers.
Following last season’s collapse — the Eagles started 10-1 only to drop six of seven at the end, including a 23-point loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round — Lurie waited nine days to confirm that his head coach would return to the team. Both of Sirianni’s hand-picked coordinators, Brian Johnson and Sean Desai, were fired. At the season-ending news conference, Sirianni sat next to Roseman, dejected.
Part of his voice had been stripped away. Sirianni called the offense he oversaw in 2023 “stale,” and despite being hired in part because of his offensive acumen, he admitted the new coordinator would “be in charge” of that side of the ball.
“What is your role?” Sirianni was asked at one point.
“The head coach of the football team,” was how he began his answer.
The moves surely hurt Sirianni’s ego, and they kept him in fans’ crosshairs this offseason. But he knows narratives don’t decide games.
He also knows he has the benefit of working for Lurie, one of the sharpest owners in the league, and Roseman, one of the best roster builders of his era. Sirianni’s quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is unflappable; his running back, Saquon Barkley, an explosive offensive centerpiece. His DC, Vic Fangio, is one of the best in history; his OC, Kellen Moore, is likely days away from becoming the New Orleans Saints head coach. Offensive line guru Jeff Stoutland is one of the most respected position coaches in the game. The list goes on. The infrastructure in Philadelphia is as good as any in the league this side of Kansas City.
A year that commenced with reports of a “disconnect” between Sirianni and Hurts — “the relationship is still a work in progress,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini noted then — will culminate Sunday on the sport’s biggest stage. Winning cures most ills in this league, and that’s pretty much all the Eagles have done since Sirianni arrived.
That’s not to say the storms haven’t been frequent. After an uneven 2-2 start this season that had some in the city calling for his job again, a few of the Eagles’ offensive linemen, veteran right tackle Lane Johnson included, piped up in a team meeting. The message was direct: We have Saquon Barkley, and we have this offensive line. We need to lean into that. Sirianni heard them. The offensive approach shifted. Barkley took off. The Eagles won 10 straight.
The pivot spoke to one of Sirianni’s greatest strengths: his ability to connect and collaborate. He builds a bond with his guys, then coaches them hard. The intensity rarely wanes. He’s a screamer. A taunter. A competitor. His players say he’ll stop a practice and rip into anyone who’s off — even one of his stars.
“He’s insane about the details,” Campbell says. “I mean … insane. Doesn’t matter who it is, it can be Jalen, it can be A.J. (Brown), it can be Smitty (DeVonta Smith). He’ll do it in front of everybody.”
Moorehead, who coaches the receiver position that Sirianni played in college and then coached as a young NFL assistant, is an easy target.
“I catch a bullet every now and then, which means lots of loud screaming, generally with some profanities in it,” Moorehead said, laughing. “But the great thing is, five seconds later, he’s onto the next thing.”
That’s the key, those close to Sirianni believe. His fury only simmers for so long. It serves its purpose, then he listens when he needs to. Kevin Patullo, whose time with Sirianni stretches back to their years in Indianapolis, works as tightly with him as anyone in the Eagles’ building. Philly’s passing game coordinator and associate head coach has seen a shift, subtle as it might seem, over four thrilling but taxing seasons.
“He’s really grown,” Patullo said. “Just how stoic he’s become. … He’s still him, but he’s got a sense of calmness to him.”
Stoic? Calmness? Nick Sirianni?
“Oh yeah,” Patullo said. “And it’s because of the things we’ve been through from Year 1 until now. Every year there’s been something dramatic he’s had to deal with … he’s humble enough to understand that for us to get better, he has to get better.”
“He’s growing. He grows all the time,” Lurie told reporters earlier this week. “I’ve seen that with every coach we’ve ever had. Nick is just a very prime example of that. … As connected as he gets as a human being and as genuine (as he is), he’s also connected to himself and goes, ‘What was I thinking?’ It’s a great quality.”
So what was he thinking when he screamed at Colts fans? Chiefs fans? His own fans? Sirianni knows the outbursts aren’t a good look. But he also knows if his fire cools, he’s not the same coach.
“I think there’s a time to show emotion and there’s a time not to show emotion, and I think I’ve gotten better at that as the years have went on,” Sirianni said. “To say I’m gonna stop being excited after we score a touchdown or stop being excited after a win that we lay everything on the line for, or that I’m not gonna yell to correct or yell to praise? That’s just not who I am.
“You’re always trying to improve and get better,” he continued after a pause. “But then there’s some 43 years of habits that are hard to break.”

Take up to $630 off sets from Samsung, LG, Sony and others
Take up to $630 off sets from Samsung, LG, Sony and others
We’re a few days from Super Bowl LIX, and it remains a decent time to grab a new TV at a discount. At this point, you’ll likely have to buy in-store if you want to make a living room upgrade in time to watch Chiefs and Eagles go at it (again), as shipping times for most sets have stretched beyond Sunday. However, if you don’t care so much about football (or Super Bowl commercials) and just want a quality TV at a reasonable price, there are still a number of discounts worth checking out. To save you some time, we’ve searched through Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers to find a few Super Bowl 2025 TV deals that are actually solid value.
To be candid, many of the better offers stem from TVs naturally falling in price this time of year rather than Super Bowl-specific sales. In general, most TVs follow a similar pricing timeline: arrive in the spring, drop a little over the summer, receive a larger price cut around the holidays, then gradually fall cheaper until being discontinued the following year. We’re in the last stage of this pattern now, and with TV makers like Samsung and LG unveiling their 2025 lineups during CES last month, last year’s models are likely to drop even further in the months ahead.
That said, if you need to make a change today, a number of well-regarded TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony, TCL and Hisense are back down to the prices we saw around ****** Friday. In some cases, they’re even cheaper. We’re also seeing a couple deals on streamers and soundbars we like from Roku and Sonos. Though we at Engadget do not formally review TVs, we’ve scoured feedback from other reviewers we trust and checked price histories to ensure everything below is a genuine deal.
LG B4 OLED TV (48″) for $600 at Best Buy ($200 off MSRP): This ties the lowest price we’ve seen for the 48-inch LG B4, which is the entry-level model in LG’s 2024 OLED lineup. While it’s not as bright or color-rich as some higher-end alternatives, it still offers the essential perks of any good OLED TV: superb contrast with deep ****** tones, clear motion, wide viewing angles and the like. It’s also a nice value for gaming, as it has four HDMI 2.1 ports that support refresh rates up to 120Hz. It’s just better off in a darker room, and this particular model is relatively small.
Hisense U7N QLED TV (65″) for $698 at Amazon ($300 off): Several reviewers we trust say that the U7N delivers better brightness, contrast and HDR performance than most TVs in its price range. It’s built with most of the features expected from pricier LED sets, including quantum-dot color, mini-LED backlighting and a 144Hz refresh rate. It also runs on the handy Google TV platform. Its viewing angles are poor, so it’s not great for watching shows with a large group, and you may need to tinker with settings to get an optimal image. But the 65-inch model should be a strong value at this price, which is only about $20 more than the all-time low we briefly saw around Cyber Monday. Also at Best Buy. If you’d prefer a smaller size, the 55-inch model is also back within $20 of its best-ever price at $498.
The Samsung Frame TV. (Amy Skorheim)
Samsung The Frame 2024 QLED TV (55″) for $868 at Woot ($630 off): This deal from Amazon subsidiary Woot has been live for several weeks, but it ties the best price to date for the 55-inch version of Samsung’s stylish Frame TV outside of a one-off eBay coupon deal. You’d buy The Frame for its design above all else: It can’t match the contrast and color volume of other TVs in its price range, as it lacks local dimming altogether, but it’s convincingly built like a framed piece of wall art that can blend in with your home decor. Its matte panel helps it fend off glare in a bright room, and you can display actual artwork onscreen when you’re not watching something. It’s worth noting that Samsung unveiled a new and improved “Frame Pro” TV at CES, but we’d expect that to cost more whenever it arrives.
TCL Q651G QLED TV (65″) for $368 at Amazon ($182 off): The Q651G is a fairly basic LED TV that might appeal to gamers on a budget, as it can play at a fast 120Hz refresh rate — albeit only when you drop the resolution from 4K to 1440p or 1080p. It’s another one without local dimming, so its contrast is limited. Most reviewers suggest that the Hisense U6N (which isn’t majorly discounted) provides a brighter and much more dynamic image for not much more. However, while the U6N can also play in 1440p/120Hz, the TCL model has a wider variable refresh rate (VRR) range in that mode. In simpler terms, that means it’ll have an easier time allowing your PS5 or Xbox games to run smoothly. This discount marks a new low for the 65-inch model. Also at Best Buy and Walmart.
The Samsung S90D. (Samsung)
Hisense U8N QLED TV (65″) for $898 at Amazon ($602 off): The U8N’s picture quality is a broad step-up from the U7N above, with better contrast, more vibrant colors and supremely high peak brightness. It still has most of the same drawbacks — mediocre viewing angles, minor blooming in a dark room, just decent upscaling of lower-res content — but it should be a worthy upgrade if you have more cash to burn. This is another discount we saw for much of November and December, but it ties the all-time low for the 65-inch variant. Also at Best Buy.
Samsung S90D QD-OLED TV (55″) for $1,198 at Amazon ($600 off): The S90D stands out for its QD-OLED panel, which mixes the benefits of an OLED display with a layer of quantum dots to boost color performance. Most reviews say that it can put out a wider gamut of more vibrant colors and brighter HDR highlights than more traditional OLED TVs like the LG C4. It also has four HDMI 2.1 ports that can play up to 144Hz. It doesn’t support Dolby Vision HDR, however, and Samsung’s Tizen interface can be clunky. The company has also made the aggravating step of using both QD-OLED and more standard WOLED panels within the same product line, but this 55-inch version comes with the superior display in North America. (The 65- and 75-inch models do as well.) This deal is the second-best price we’ve seen and about $150 off this variant’s average street price in recent months. Also at Samsung and Best Buy.
The Sony Bravia 7. (Sony)
Sony Bravia 7 QLED TV (55″) for $1,198 at Amazon ($100 off): The Bravia 7 isn’t as strong of a value as the Hisense U8N, but some reviews suggest that it’s a decent alternative if you’re willing to trade some contrast and peak brightness for a more accurate picture out of the box. Like the Hisense TV, its image washes out when viewed from an angle and it only has two HDMI 2.1 ports for gaming. In general, most people will be happier with a good OLED TV around this price. But if you want a brighter LED TV that looks great right away, this one might be worth a look. This is a new low for the 55-inch model. Also at B&H and Best Buy.
Roku Ultra (2024) for $79 at Amazon ($21 off): Roku’s Ultra set-top box is overkill for most, but it might be worthwhile if you prefer the simplicity of Roku’s interface and need built-in Ethernet and USB ports. It supports just about all the major apps and HDR formats, plus it lets iPhone owners cast video from their phone via AirPlay. Unlike the cheaper Roku Streaming Stick 4K, it also comes with a rechargeable remote that has backlit buttons, built-in voice controls and a lost remote finder. We call it the best Roku player in our guide to the best streaming devices. This deal was available for much of the holiday season, but it ties the latest model’s all-time low. Also at Roku, B&H and Best Buy.
Sonos Beam (Gen 2) for $399 at Sonos ($100 off): Yes, the recent overhaul of the Sonos app has been an abject disaster, to the point where the audio brand’s CEO and chief product officer have left the company entirely. However, if you’re not already tied up in the Sonos ecosystem and just want a clean-sounding soundbar that won’t chew up a ton of space, the Sonos Beam’s hardware still does enough right to be worth a look. We call it the best midrange option in our guide to the best soundbars. It only has one HDMI port, and it’s too small to deliver truly room-rattling bass, but it still compares favorably to most alternatives in its size range. This deal is $30 above the device’s all-time low but still $100 off its typical street price. Other Sonos home theater gadgets are similarly discounted, including the more compact Sonos Ray for $179 and the Sub 4 subwoofer for $679. These offers are also available at Amazon and other retailers. Sonos says they’ll run until February 9.
TV deals that are no longer available
LG C3 OLED TV (65″) for $1,197 at Amazon ($303 off): The LG C3 was released in 2023, but it’s not a huge downgrade from last year’s LG C4, so it’s still worth considering when it’s available for less. The C4 should be slightly better in terms of brightness and color volume, plus it supports refresh rates up to 144Hz rather than 120Hz, though the latter is only really useful for PC gaming. Neither model can quite match the QD-OLED panel on the Samsung S90D, but the C3 will still look excellent if you’re not comparing the two side-by-side and just want to save some cash on a larger premium display. This discount ties the lowest price we’ve tracked outside of a handful of in-store-only and eBay coupon deals.
Sony A95L OLED TV (65″) for $2,498 at eBay via BuyDig ($500 off): The A95L is wildly expensive even with this discount, but many reviewers agree that it’s the best TV on the market if money is no object. It’s another QD-OLED TV like the Samsung S90D, but it’s more color-accurate out of the box and should be better at preserving details in shows that aren’t presented in 4K. It also supports Dolby Vision, unlike Samsung’s TVs, and its Google TV software is generally easier to navigate than Tizen. The only serious drawback is that it’s limited to two HDMI 2.1 ports, which may be annoying for those who own a soundbar and multiple game consoles. This discount from ties the lowest price to date for the 65-inch model; just use the code SAVEBIG20 at checkout. It comes from eBay via BuyDig, which Sony lists as an authorized seller.

8-hour flightmare after Boeing 737 Max bound for Iceland was diverted to Scotland when strong winds stopped it landing
8-hour flightmare after Boeing 737 Max bound for Iceland was diverted to Scotland when strong winds stopped it landing
A flight from the Canary Islands to Iceland ended up being diverted to Scotland.
Strong winds in Iceland prevented the Boeing 737 Max from landing on two attempts on Thursday.
The Neos flight was then diverted 800 miles away to Glasgow, Scotland.
A flight bound for Iceland ended up in Scotland instead after strong winds stopped it from landing on Thursday.
The Neos Boeing 737 Max took off from Tenerife in the Canary Islands heading for Akureyri in northern Iceland.
The roughly 2,500 mile journey typically takes about five hours, but Flight NO4925 was airborne for some eight hours.
After reaching Akureyri, the plane flew as low as 700 feet before aborting its landing attempt, data from Flightradar24 shows.

Antonio Gates, Jared Allen lead smallest Hall of Fame class since ’05; Eli Manning misses cut
Antonio Gates, Jared Allen lead smallest Hall of Fame class since ’05; Eli Manning misses cut
NEW ORLEANS — Antonio Gates, Jared Allen, Eric Allen and Sterling Sharpe comprise a streamlined 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class after changes to the voting process raised the bar for enshrinement this year.
The class revealed at the NFL Honors show on Thursday night is the Hall’s smallest in 20 years and the smallest possible under the new rules.
Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, whose candidacy has stirred discussion for reasons Manning himself has found compelling, missed the cut in his first year of eligibility.
Gates and both Allens (unrelated) were the only modern-era finalists selected for enshrinement, breaking a 17-year streak in which the maximum five players from that category were inducted.
The reduction in modern-era class size reflects changes implemented this year to, in the Hall’s words, “help ensure that membership in the Hall of Fame remains elite.” The rules call for between three and five modern-era finalists to earn enshrinement each year. Three is the fewest since 2005, when Dan Marino and Steve Young were the only modern-era players inducted.
GO DEEPER
Hall of Fame voting rules: Why the highest NFL honor is now more exclusive
Before this year, there had been at least seven members in every Hall class since 2012 and at least six in every class since 2005. The Class of 2025 joins 2004 and 2005 as the only classes this century with just four total inductees.
Sharpe emerged from a separate five-man group featuring three senior candidates (Sharpe, Maxie Baughan and Jim Tyrer), one coach (Mike Holmgren) and one contributor (NFL co-founder Ralph Hay). At least one and no more than three of those five could be selected under the new rules.
In a surprise to some, Hay beat out New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to become the finalist from the contributor category, as chosen by the nine-person contributor committee. If Kraft emerges as the contributor finalist in 2026, he could compete for votes with his former longtime coach, Bill Belichick, who can become eligible as a coaching finalist if he does not return to the NFL in 2025.
The table below orders the 15 modern-era finalists by how many times they have achieved finalist status. None of the first-ballot finalists were selected. Gates, whose 116 touchdowns are an NFL record for tight ends, earned enshrinement on his second chance, while Jared Allen made it on his fifth and Eric Allen on his 19th.
2025 modern-era finalists (gold=enshrinee)
Jared Allen, who spent most of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings, earned four first-team All-Pro selections and five Pro Bowl nods while twice leading the league in sacks. In 2011, he had 22 sacks, coming up a half-sack shy of Michael Strahan’s single-season record.
Eric Allen spent seven years with the Philadelphia Eagles, three with the New Orleans Saints and four with the Oakland Raiders, garnering six Pro Bowl selections and one first-team All-Pro nod. He tallied at least five interceptions in six different seasons, including eight in 1989. He returned four interceptions for touchdowns in 1993 and added three pick sixes in 2000.
Gates in a year later than expected
Many expected Gates to be voted into the Hall of Fame last year, in his first year of eligibility. The only blemish on his career was a four-game PED suspension in 2015. He attributed the issue to over-the-counter supplements and holistic medicines that he didn’t realize were banned by the league. Voters made him wait one year, but there was no doubt he would be inducted.
Gates, an undrafted free agent who came to the Chargers as a basketball player out of Kent State who wasn’t good enough for the NBA, checked every box as an NFL player and was one of the most dominant tight ends in history. His 116 receiving touchdowns are the most ever for a tight end (39 more than Travis Kelce, for comparison’s sake) and seventh-most among all players. Gates was a three-time first-team All-Pro and a two-time second-team All-Pro. — Dan Pompei, senior writer
Why it took so long for Sharpe
A short career is the reason Sharpe had to endure 25 years of eligibility before being voted into the Hall of Fame as a senior candidate. Sharpe, who retired at 29 after seven seasons with the Packers because of a neck injury, was first-team All-Pro in three seasons — or 43 percent of his career. He led the league in receptions three times. In a six-year span, Jerry Rice was the only more productive receiver than Sharpe, who had more production than Hall of Famers Andre Reed, Michael Irvin and Cris Carter.
Some of Sharpe’s production could be attributed to Brett Favre, but not all. In four of his seven seasons, his quarterbacks were Don Majkowski, Anthony Dilweg, ****** Wright and Mike Tomczak. Preceding him into the Hall of Fame was his brother Shannon, who says Sterling was the best football player in the family. — Pompei

DACH’s venture capital prominence: an outlier, or the start of a golden age?
DACH’s venture capital prominence: an outlier, or the start of a golden age?
Switzerland can officially boast the world’s fastest growing venture capital (VC) ecosystem, with only Dubai and Singapore preventing Austria from making it a DACH double at the top. An exciting tech sector has undoubtedly contributed to these impressive regional rankings, but those at the heart of both ecosystems have slightly differing views on how sustainable the growth is.
Pitchbook’s annual Global venture capital ecosystem rankings for 2024 revealed the perhaps surprising ascent of Austria and especially Switzerland. Despite both countries sitting much further down the broader development scores, the country growth index framed both countries among the top tier, with Switzerland at the summit.
At first glance, the news reflects a concerted ******* of success for startups and scaleups in the DACH region, which would seem to bode well for the future too. Yet ‘growth’ is relative. And regardless of the positive grounding and traits that both share, there are differing opinions on whether this growth will now drive Switzerland and Austria to the top of the VC Development rankings as more entrenched and embedded powerhouses.
“Switzerland and Austria have fostered thriving startup ecosystems, largely thanks to their strong academic hubs, such as ETH Zurich,” says Markus Gleim, principal at renowned global VC fund Northzone.
“These institutions have a consistent track record of producing top-tier talent and cutting-edge spin-outs such as AI innovators LogicStar. And, as a result, both nations have been able to carve out strong niches in deep technological sectors like medtech and cleantech.
“However, while signs of growth have been promising, to sustain this momentum both regions will need to create an environment that allows their emerging cohort of startups to become stable, high-growth companies.
“Addressing late-stage funding gaps and leveraging cross-border partnerships within the DACH region will help startups scale internationally. Even closer collaborations between universities and industry will also help prolong the growth of these startup hubs,” he adds.
Building better, faster
Gleim’s vision for that transition from scaleup to global, high-growth company can, in part, be remedied through these more practical, collaborative steps. However, Felix Ohswald, CEO and co-founder at education gamechanger GoStudent, believes there is also a mindset element to address.
To this end, he poses that the success of GoStudent itself has partially contributed to an “outlier” ******* which has launched the company’s native Austria towards the top of the VC growth rankings.
“I was a bit surprised when I read that Austria is one of the fastest growing countries in this context,” he says. “It needs to be understood in terms of your starting size, so when you then have some very big financing rounds for companies in a smaller ecosystem, the relative growth is proportionally higher. You can also then see this doesn’t equate to the wider development scores. The 2018-2024 ******* has been a bit of an outlier.”
Ohswald is quick to emphasise that this isn’t to undermine the success of companies that have risen to prominence during this *******, or even to downplay the success of the regional VC ecosystem in capitalising on these opportunities. His only concern is that the default DACH mindset may now prevent the region from leveraging these successes and to demand more sustainable competitiveness.
“These past few years in both Austria and Switzerland it has been proved how many great people, ideas and companies there are in these environments,” he adds. “But that just means we can grow and ignite more of these companies more frequently. It all starts with the drive and mindset.”
This needs to come from the very top, with country leaders who are “proud” to not only support and spark new companies, but to push them to be the best globally.
“This is independent of socio-economic circumstances and, even to an extent, from the leading academic frameworks we have here,” Ohswald adds. “Mindset means having something in you to build better, faster. Less red tape and bureaucracy can certainly help to then speed things up, and why not elevate our education institutions even further?
“What this ranking shows, if nothing else, is that we have all the ingredients here to be the best. So, let’s not be shy in aiming for that. Not everybody has to be good at everything. The mindset shift I’d be looking for is to promote an elite ecosystem that encourages the best minds here, that pushes the best to the top, and that then has all those favourable conditions to push these cool ideas out to the world to benefit as many people as possible.”
A golden age
While everyone is keen to capitalise on recent growth, there are some within the DACH ecosystem who foresaw this “golden age” long before. In particular, Andre Retterath, partner at Earlybird Venture Capital, predicted a European-wide purple patch driven by talent, collaboration, funding, success stories and – interestingly – mindset.
“The rankings and Switzerland being at the top in particular, came as no real surprise to me,” he says. “I completely agree with the relativity element as they both have small denominators in terms of funding, against a situation where lots of big funding then came into the country.
“What doesn’t surprise me, however, is that the money did come. The region houses so much great research, access to industry and especially big tech, and is in close proximity to ecosystems in Germany, France and the ***. The only surprise is that so little funding came into the ecosystem before.”
Retterath has comprehensively explored and dissected the notion of ecosystems, and deduces that a successful “golden age” relies on different components coming together in harmony: “Smart minds, seamless business formulation, and a collaborative environment.”
Beyond these factors, he’s also keen not to compare countries such as Switzerland and Austria to the likes of Dubai and Singapore, who split the two DACH entries in Pitchbook’s Growth scores.
“The other element a successful VC ecosystem needs is its own personality,” he affirms. “What makes us great? Look at ETH Zurich or EPFL, the Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne. These are top academic institutions. Then look at the region’s history with big tech, or with finance, or medtech. Look at their socio-economic groundings. It’s a great place to live or to relocate to – very clean, neutral, highly ambitious.
“To me, the strength of the DACH VC ecosystem is the DACH region itself. Its own personality and capabilities. Singapore and Dubai are great for their own reasons, but I’d say our fundamentals are as naturally suited to startup success and VC activity, as any.”
The flywheel is spinning faster
The potential of DACH’s VC ecosystem is doubtless. From those within and those looking in, the only disagreement is around whether the recent ascent in the global context was inevitable or not. For some, like Gleim and Ohswald, recent success stories are a sign of what could be, but are in danger of remaining outliers if both Austria and Switzerland don’t actively strive to convert “growth” into longer-term “development”.
For others, DACH has been a sleeping giant, with its tech prowess and VC support finally combining to put Austria and Switzerland in the global consciousness.
Alan Poensgen, partner at Antler, a global VC fund targeting zero day investments, concludes: “Both the Swiss and Austrian ecosystems have always been promising, yet, historically, many successful founders left once their startups reached a certain stage – other ecosystems with proximity to larger pools of talent or capital were too attractive.
“Lately, we’ve seen the flywheel in both ecosystems begin to spin faster: more innovation, more exits, more liquidity, human capital moving through, Zurich outperforming even Cambridge when it comes to unicorn founders.”
Regardless of what the future has in store, everyone agrees that there is reason to be excited right now. All the ingredients are there. The question is, has the golden age only just begun?

PUBG Spin-Off Gets A New Name And More Details
PUBG Spin-Off Gets A New Name And More Details
Krafton has revealed a new name and more details for its first-ever PUBG spin-off. PUBG: Blindspot, which was previously known as Project Arc when it was revealed in 2024, is a top-down shooter launching in beta on Steam later this month.
Blindspot is a 5v5 tactical shooter that aims to offer a blend of strategy and shooting from a top-down perspective. The mission in the game is to break into a crypt inside a building to install an item called a Decrypter. Players use things like grenade launchers and explosive hammers to crush the building’s walls to get into the crypt. Those on the defending team can set up barricades and other preventative measures to try to stop attackers from getting in.
“PUBG: Blindspot presents real-time line of sight shared with your teammates, which creates immediate, non-verbal cooperation, allowing you to experience fast-paced CQB combat with your teammates in real-time against actual players,” Krafton said.
The game features weapons like the Mk14, AWM, and P90, as well as gadgets like proximity explosives, flashbangs, and smoke grenades, among other things. Take a look at the trailer below to get a closer look at Blindspot.
A free demo for Blindspot launches February 20 at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET on Steam–the game has only been confirmed for PC. The developer said it will gather feedback from fans to help “refine and enhance” the game. A release date has not been announced.
Blindspot is the first PUBG spin-off from the popular battle royale game. It wasn’t always going to be the first spin-off, though, as the horror game The Callisto Protocol was going to be until plans changed.

Consumer inflation fears spike in February as tariff worries hit sentiment
Consumer inflation fears spike in February as tariff worries hit sentiment

Consumers grew dramatically more worried about near-term inflation as President Donald Trump pushed aggressive tariffs against major U.S. trading partners, a closely watched survey showed Friday.
The University of Michigan consumer survey for February showed that respondents expect the inflation rate a year from now to be 4.3%, a 1 percentage point jump from January and the highest level since November 2023.
Though Trump postponed tariffs against Canada and Mexico, the looming threat of price pass-throughs to consumers shook sentiment. China has levied retaliatory tariffs following Trump’s move.
“Many consumers appear worried that high inflation will return within the next year,” said Joanne Hsu, the survey’s director. “This is only the fifth time in 14 years we have seen such a large one-month rise (one percentage point or more) in year-ahead inflation expectations.”
Longer-run expectations weren’t hit as much, with the five-year outlook drifting up to 3.3%, a 0.1 percentage point gain.
Stocks turned lower after the report, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average initially off more than 100 points.
Worries over inflation dovetailed with lower optimism overall, as the headline index fell to 67.8, a one-month drop of 4.6% and an 11.8% move lower from the same month a year ago. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for a reading of 71.3.
Hsu said overall declines in the various survey indexes reflect “a perception that it may be too late to avoid the negative impact of tariff policy.”
The current conditions index also slumped, down to 68.7, or 7.2% lower than January and 13.5% down from a year ago. Expectations declined to 67.3, for a respective drop of 2.9% and 10.5%.

GTA 6 publisher ‘fully expects’ to support Switch 2 going forward
GTA 6 publisher ‘fully expects’ to support Switch 2 going forward
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has said that the company “fully expects” to support Switch 2.
Speaking during the company’s latest financial results, Zelnick said that the company is very likely to support the platform.
While Take-Two has yet to announce any titles for Nintendo‘s new system, Zelnick referenced that Civilization 7 will be released on the original Nintendo Switch, which could suggest that the series will also make it to Switch 2.
“We’ve had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo,” Zelnick said. “We’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release.”
While Take-Two never released its biggest game, the 210 million unit-selling GTA 5, it did release several Borderlands, NBA 2K, and WWE 2K titles for Switch.
Zelnick also credited Nintendo’s changing audience as to why the company expects to support Nintendo’s next console.
“There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared at younger audiences, that was reflected in our release schedule. Today, with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience.”
Nintendo officially revealed Switch 2 last month, with a teaser video showing the console and Joy-Cons. No release date was given, but Nintendo plans to reveal more information about the console in a Nintendo Direct broadcast in April.
Alongside Take-Two’s results, Strauss Zelnick has said that not only does he think AI won’t lead to job losses, he believes it could lead to increased employment.

Earthquake Swarm Near Santorini Triggers Emergency Response from Greek Authorities
Earthquake Swarm Near Santorini Triggers Emergency Response from Greek Authorities
Greek authorities have responded to an intensifying earthquake swarm near Santorini by closing schools and deploying emergency teams. The tremors, which began last week, have been growing in frequency and magnitude, raising concerns over potential stronger quakes in the region. While experts have ruled out immediate volcanic activity, the situation remains unpredictable due to the swarm’s unusual characteristics. The most powerful tremor recorded so far was a magnitude 5 earthquake, striking approximately 34 kilometres northeast of Santorini. The event occurred at 2:27 p.m. local time, as per the University of Athens’ earthquake monitoring system.
Seismic Activity Driven by Faults, Not Volcanic Unrest
According to reports, the ongoing tremors are attributed to fault movement rather than volcanic activity. Santorini, positioned on the Aegean Sea’s tectonic boundary, sits on the exposed section of a submerged volcano known as the Santorini caldera. David Pyle, Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, told Live Science that the quakes are likely caused by fault lines shifting rather than magma activity. He described the swarm as unusual, highlighting the challenge of predicting future developments due to its underwater location.
Historical Earthquake Swarms and Regional Tectonics
The Aegean region experiences significant seismic activity due to the African plate moving beneath the Eurasian plate. Similar earthquake swarms have been recorded in the past, including a 2011-2012 event linked to magma movement beneath Santorini. However, the current swarm appears more extensive and is concentrated outside the Santorini caldera. Most tremors have been recorded between the underwater Kolumbo volcano and Anydros Island.
Kolumbo, last erupting in 1650, previously triggered a tsunami that affected nearby islands. While researchers remain uncertain about a direct link between current tectonic activity and potential volcanic unrest, ongoing monitoring continues to assess the evolving situation.

Asus and MSI hike RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPU prices by up to 18%
Asus and MSI hike RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPU prices by up to 18%
Although the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, two of the best graphics cards, were launched a week ago, Nvidia’s partners have already started hiking their prices. Asus and MSI were among the first to increase prices in their U.S. online stores, although the GPUs are out of stock.
The price hike is likely due to the limited Blackwell supply, Trump tariffs, scalpers, or a combination of these. Depending on the variant, MSI was selling its custom GeForce RTX 5090 at launch for between $2,000 and $2,400. The Ventus 3X, the budget model in MSI’s product stack, had the lowest price tag at $2,000. The pricing has increased by an additional $400, an 18% increase on the flagship Blackwell GPU.
The MSI RTX 5080 16GB Ventus 3X will set you back by $1,140, initially costing $ 1,000 when it was launched if the stock was available. The price increase on the MSI RTX 50-series GPUs can also be seen on Newegg, with no stocks available.
The price increase is also seen on custom Asus RTX 50-series graphics cards. The Asus Astral RTX 5090 has increased from $2,799 to $3,079, with zero availability. Similarly, the RTX 5080, made by Asus, has experienced a $200 price increase, just like MSI variants.
Image 1 of 3

Many would argue that the price hikes are due to high-volume sales, as the RTX 50-series inventories were out of stock within twenty minutes at retailers like Newegg. However, Trump’s tariffs had a ******* role in price increases. Last month, tariffs were announced on TSMC between 25% to 100%. Naturally, this will reflect on the final pricing of graphics cards and tariffs on other components such as VRAMs. Irrespective of the price tag, the graphics cards are selling off quickly, and scalpers added to the nuisance by selling the Blackwell graphics cards at ridiculous prices on eBay.
Many PC gamers blame other factors, such as cryptocurrency, AI, and even Nvidia, for pushing EVGA out of the GPU business. The early adopters were the only lucky buyers who could dodge this price hike. As for others, they’ll have to wait until there is more stock and, hopefully, the prices stabilize. Those with a previous-generation GeForce RTX 40-series GPU may not see the urge to upgrade since the generation-over-generation uplift isn’t extraordinary.

Sweden plans tighter gun laws after Orebro school shooting
Sweden plans tighter gun laws after Orebro school shooting
Sweden’s government has announced plans to tighten its gun laws, days after the worst mass shooting in the country’s history.
The gunman, who killed 10 people and himself at an adult education centre in Orebro on Tuesday, had four legally-owned rifles – three of which were found at the school, police said.
Sweden’s centre-right coalition said it would seek to increase vetting for gun licenses and restrict access to semi-automatic weapons.
“There are certain types of weapons that are so dangerous that they should only be possessed for civilian purposes as an exception,” the government said.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, on a visit to Latvia, told reporters: “We have to ensure that only the right people have guns in Sweden.”
The Sweden Democrats said that it agreed with proposals to amend the law, including greater restrictions on access to semi-automatic weapons.
“The horrific act of violence in Orebro raises several key questions about gun legislation,” the party said in a statement.
The AR-15, a particular style of semi-automatic rifle that is both powerful and can carry large magazines, was singled out by the government as an example of weapons that could be restricted.
Police have not said exactly which weapons were used in the attack, but the AR-15 has been used in many mass shootings in the US.
They confirmed that several long rifles were found at the site of the attack in Orebro, along with 10 empty magazines.
Under current Swedish gun laws, anyone over 18 who does not have a criminal record can apply for a permit for a shotgun, handgun or semi-automatic rifle.
They must justify to the police why they need a gun. People over 20 can apply for a special dispensation to own a fully automatic weapon.
Around 580,000 Swedes have a weapons license out of a population of around 10.5 million, according to figures from Swedish broadcaster SVT.
A 2017 Swiss study found there were about 2.3 million guns held by civilians in Sweden. That is around 23 guns per 100 people, compared to 29 in Norway and 120 per 100 in the US.
To obtain a hunting license in Sweden, a theory and practical test is required. About 280,000 Swedes have one.
Police have yet to publicly identify the victims of the attack in Orebro, but said they hoped to conclude the identification process and make an announcement on Friday.
Among the dead, according to family and community members, were Syrians who fled the war there as refugees, as well as one Bosnian.
Police have also yet to say anything about the killer’s possible motive. Members of the Syrian orthodox community in Orebro told the BBC they feared he was driven by a hatred of foreigners.
Sweden has a relatively high level of gun ownership and gun crime, by European standards, though most weapons are legally owned and used for hunting.
Gun crime is mostly associated with gangs, who have also taken to using bombs to target one another.
Non gang-related gun crime is less rare, and Tuesday’s attack was the nation’s first school shooting and its worst mass shooting. A total of four people were killed in two separate school stabbings in 2015 and 2022.

One last MLB free agent for every team: Finding new homes for 30 available players
One last MLB free agent for every team: Finding new homes for 30 available players
Spring training is around the corner, and the free agent market has been stripped of its universal impact. What’s left — with very few exceptions — are players who would barely move the needle on one roster but fill a specific need on another. So, let’s find those guys some uniforms and get on with it. Here’s one remaining free agent for every major league team.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Kenley Jansen, RHP
A few days ago, we might have paired the D-Backs with a right-handed bat, but they just filled that need by re-signing Randal Grichuk. So, what’s left is to solidify the back end of their bullpen. Putting Jansen in the ninth would leave Justin Martinez to serve as a high-octane setup man. And playing for a good team would give Jansen a chance to get the 31 saves he needs to tie Lee Smith for the third-most saves in history.
Athletics
Nick Pivetta, RHP
The A’s have already signed one free agent attached to the qualifying offer. So, what’s one more? Add Pivetta to Luis Severino and Jeffrey Springs, and the A’s would have a completely new top of the rotation while leaving room for young arms JP Sears, Joey Estes and Mitch Spence to round out the group. With a young and exciting lineup, and a couple of legitimate late-inning relievers — Mason Miller and Jose Leclerc — another proven starter could really raise the floor in Sacramento.
Atlanta Braves
Kyle Gibson, RHP
Stability. That’s all we’re looking for here. The Braves have done very little this offseason — Jurickson Profar and not much else — and are counting on the return of Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. to meaningfully raise their ceiling. Fair enough. Strider, Chris ***** and Reynaldo Lopez are the impact starters at the top of the rotation, but another veteran starter would help solidify the group and protect against further injury.
Baltimore Orioles
John Means, RHP
The Orioles just filled their last glaring need by signing Ramon Laureano to provide some right-handed balance in the outfield. The market doesn’t offer meaningful upgrades to their rotation, and their bullpen is more or less full, but a reunion with Means — who underwent Tommy John surgery last summer — would bring back a former All-Star and begin building depth for next season.
Boston Red Sox
David Robertson, RHP
Entering his 17th season, David Robertson just keeps delivering strong performances. (Kiyoshi Mio / Imagn Images)
Massive impact would come from signing Alex Bregman, but short of that, the Red Sox could use another dependable arm in their bullpen, and Robertson, who pitched like his old self as a 39-year-old last season. He would give the team another experienced reliever who could even be an option in an uncertain ninth inning.
Chicago Cubs
Jalen Beeks, LHP
Recent trades for Ryan Pressly and Ryan Brasier have given the Cubs some much-needed help in the late innings, and a late deal with Beeks would give them another experienced reliever who’s been everything from a long man to a closer. Beeks would also give the Cubs some left-handed balance in their pen. Caleb Thielbar is their only lefty at the moment.
Chicago White Sox
Brendan Rodgers, 2B
Throw a dart at a list of free agents, and you’ll probably hit a name that could help the White Sox. They could really use a veteran pitcher, but how many veterans really want to be a part of such a rebuild? For Rodgers, though, the White Sox could provide an opportunity to play every day and build back some value after a couple of down seasons in Colorado.
Cincinnati Reds
Phil Maton, RHP
The Reds have plenty of role players and a full five-man rotation (though an additional starter wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world). What they don’t have is a single reliever who FanGraphs projects to have an ERA below 4.15. It’s not necessarily a bad bullpen, but it lacks a standout aside from Alexis Díaz (who’s not even the best reliever in his own family). So, let’s add another solid arm into the mix and let Terry Francona sort it out in spring training.
Cleveland Guardians
Kiké Hernández, CF/2B
Defensively, center field is the Guardians’ most glaring need. In terms of experience, they’re thinnest at second base. And their everyday lineup includes only one strictly right-handed hitter. Well, Hernández would address all of that. He would be their best defensive option in center, their most experienced option at second, and another right-handed bat on a roster loaded with lefties and switch hitters. Maybe Lane Thomas would still play center field against righties, but Hernández could play there against lefties and in the late innings. Maybe Juan Brito is ready to play second, but Hernández would free him to also help out at other positions.
Colorado Rockies
James McCann, C
You might think it would make sense to give the Rockies a veteran starter. But their starting pitchers already are veterans! Or maybe give them an experienced reliever. But who would want that job? So, let’s give the Rockies the most boring addition possible: a new backup catcher. Playing McCann behind Jacob Stallings would free Hunter Goodman to continue playing all over the field (first base, catcher, outfield corners) to see if his immense power will play at the big league level (he had a .228 on-base percentage but slugged .417 in a half season last year).
Detroit Tigers
Justin Turner, 1B
You know what would be really fun? Putting Alex Bregman in Detroit. But in this market, Turner is the next best thing. The Tigers definitely need another right-handed hitter — Gleyber Torres and Matt Vierling are their only everyday righties — and Turner could play first base and DH while letting manager A.J. Hinch mix and match with lefty hitters Kerry Carpenter, Colt Keith and Jace Jung. Turner would also give the Tigers a massive clubhouse presence as they try to build on last season’s breakout.
Houston Astros
Alex Verdugo, LF
We sent Bregman elsewhere, which means this version of the major league multi-verse won’t have the Astros filling their left field void by shifting Jose Altuve from second base. So, let’s give them a real left fielder. Bonus points for the fact Verdugo hits left-handed (the Astros’ only everyday lefty is Yordan Alvarez). FanGraphs is still projecting Verdugo to have a 1.1 WAR season, which is better than Ben Gamel and Taylor Trammell — the two left-handed outfielders currently jockeying for Astros’ playing time — have produced in the past four seasons combined. Verdugo hasn’t been especially good in a few years, but he’s the best of what’s left.
Kansas City Royals
Brandon Drury, 3B/2B
Brandon Drury had an ugly season, but before that he was a standout contributor for three years. (Stephen Brashear / USA Today)
According to FanGraphs WAR, there was not a player in baseball less valuable than Drury last season. He was a full 2.1 wins below replacement. So why would the Royals want him? Because they actually have enough infielders — if this signing goes belly up, they’re covered at second and third — but Drury had a 118 OPS+ from 2021 to 2023, and he generated that offense while playing first, second, third, left and right. Basically, Drury would be a chance for the Royals to maybe find some cheap offense. Their projected Opening Day roster on FanGraphs includes seven hitters projected to have a sub-100 wRC+. That includes their entire bench and their starting third baseman, Maikel Garcia, who’s a great defender but had a 69 wRC+ last season. If Drury can bounce back to be just league average at the plate, he could help the Royals at multiple positions.
Los Angeles Angels
Craig Kimbrel, RHP
The Angels are in wing-and-a-prayer territory, anyway. They need a ton of things to go right, and those things range from Mike Trout’s health to Kyle Hendricks’ sinker. Scott Kingery and Jo Adell are involved. Yoán Moncada just joined them. There’s a Rule 5 pick in there, too. It’s a lot. So, why not add one more wild card? Kimbrel was an All-Star in 2023 and he saved 23 games last season, but he also pitched so poorly that the Orioles released him in September. How many teams are in a position to give Kimbrel even a chance to close again? The Angels are! If Kimbrel stinks and Ben Joyce wins the job, so be it, but the Angels bullpen is crawling with 20-somethings, and adding a veteran to the mix wouldn’t be the worst idea.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Clayton Kershaw, LHP
What do you get the team that has everything? How about a Hall of Famer? And, in this case, it’s a Hall of Famer who is almost certainly going to re-sign with them eventually, anyway. Kershaw to the Dodgers is basically the free square in free agency bingo, but we’ll gladly take the gimme.
Miami Marlins
Cal Quantrill, RHP
The Marlins would be a reasonable landing spot for all sorts of free agency leftovers. Michael A. Taylor would give them a legitimate defender in center. South Florida native Anthony Rizzo would be a veteran presence and a left-handed option at first base. Pretty much any free-agent reliever would become the most experienced guy in their bullpen. But Quantrill feels like an upside play for their rotation. He’s only two years removed from a couple of encouraging seasons in Cleveland. Best-case scenario: Quantrill rounds out the Marlins rotation in April before becoming a trade chip in July.
Milwaukee Brewers
Paul DeJong, SS
This is the only remotely viable shortstop left on the free agent market (the next-best was Nick Ahmed, but he just signed a minor league deal with the Rangers). Signing DeJong would let the Brewers keep Brice Turang and Joey Ortiz at second and third, where they’re excellent defenders. DeJong would also give the Brewers another right-handed bat (their regular lineup already has four lefties).
Minnesota Twins
Luis Urías, 3B/SS
The Twins want to add infield depth, especially shortstop depth, and this just isn’t the free-agent market for teams that need a shortstop. There’s really only one free-agent shortstop left, and this hypothetical exercise has him landing in Milwaukee. The fact Urías, who hasn’t played a big league game at short, is even on the radar for such a role speaks to just how few options are out there (Ahmed recently signed a minor league deal with the Rangers). For teams in the market for a viable shortstop, it’s pretty much DeJong-or-bust.
New York Mets
Brooks Raley, LHP
Our first draft suggested the Mets re-sign Pete Alonso. Then they actually did! So, we went back to the drawing board and found a Mets roster that has basically everything covered. The Mets have seven experienced starting pitchers, at least six guys who could get time at second base, and a pretty solid bullpen. So, we’ll suggest bringing back Raley, who pitched well for the Mets the past two seasons before Tommy John surgery last summer. He won’t be available until the second half, at which point the Mets might be happy to have the extra lefty.
New York Yankees
Colin Poche, LHP
The Yankees have done most of their heavy lifting, and short of Bregman, there’s no free-agent infielder who meaningfully improves them at second base or third. But they could use a second left-handed reliever to pair with Tim Hill, and Poche is a proven commodity in the AL East.
Philadelphia Phillies
Héctor Neris, RHP
With every team, there’s a desire to come up with an interesting addition that fits one specific need, but the Phillies basically addressed the most glaring needs in December when they traded for Jésus Luzardo, signed Max Kepler and signed Jordan Romano. The free-agent market really doesn’t offer any other ideal fits. Neris at least would give them one more veteran arm, and a familiar arm at that. He would fit about as well as anyone. Basically, just give the Phillies one of the last relievers standing, hope all their big bats stay healthy, and call up Andrew Painter in June.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Lance Lynn, RHP
At 37, Lynn has considered transitioning to a bullpen role, and that’s where he might best fit the Pirates. The team could go the usual route and sign one of the remaining free-agent relievers — Andrew Chafin? Dylan Floro? Scott Barlow? — but Lynn feels like an upside play. If he thrives in a one-inning role, Lynn would give the Pirates a veteran arm to pair with David Bednar. And, frankly, with Johan Oviedo returning to the rotation from Tommy John surgery, Lynn could end up being a welcome fallback option should the Pirates need a starter instead.
San Francisco Giants
Mark Canha, DH/RF
This is probably out of the Giants’ price range, but the team did trade for Canha at last year’s deadline, and he delivered a .376 on-base percentage in the final two months. Canha doesn’t have the power typical of a DH, but his on-base skills are valuable, and the Giants don’t really have a better option at DH. Canha can also play first base and right field, two spots where the Giants have left-handed hitters and could use the right-handed option. Alternatively, the Giants could add a depth starter or bring in another relief pitcher, but it’s hard to imagine them doing anything to wow you at this point.
San Diego Padres
Jose Quintana, LHP
The first thought was to add J.D. Martinez or Rizzo to an already aging lineup and see what happens (the Padres don’t really have a DH as long as Luis Arraez is playing first base). Maybe the Padres could do that, but if they’re going to keep exploring trades for either Dylan Cease or Michael King, they’re going to need someone else to fill the innings. Frankly, the Padres could probably use the pitching depth anyway, and Quintana, 36, is coming off another solid season.
Seattle Mariners
Jose Iglesias, 2B
The Mariners are all about being reliably decent, so here’s a veteran second baseman who tends to hit OK while playing solid defense. He would add stability to a questionable Mariners infield and improve the bench by freeing Dylan Moore to serve as a super-utility man. Otherwise, maybe David Peralta as a left-handed bat off the bench?
St. Louis Cardinals
Jose Urquidy, RHP
The Cardinals seem content to just kind of exist this offseason. Maybe they’ll trade Nolan Arenado and open the door to another right-handed bat or add a guy like Andrew Heaney for a bit of rotation depth, but if the Cardinals are going to keep their focus on the future, we’ll do the same and take a look at a two-year deal with a guy recovering from Tommy John surgery. Urquidy probably won’t help much this season, but he could give the Cardinals a leg up in their search for 2026 rotation depth (Steven Matz, Miles Mikolas and Erick Fedde are free agents after this season).
Tampa Bay Rays
Kevin Pillar, CF
The Rays could use another right-handed bat and a backup in center field. Pillar, 36, had an .852 OPS against lefties last season, and while he’s no longer among the elite center fielders in baseball, both Defensive Runs Saved and Outs Above Average had him as a positive defender in center last season. He would provide a veteran presence alongside starting center fielder Jonny DeLuca.
Texas Rangers
Kendall Graveman, RHP
The Rangers seem to be collecting relievers who aren’t quite closers but are certainly comfortable pitching the late innings. Chris Martin, Robert Garcia, Jesse Chavez, Hoby Milner, Jacob Webb and Shawn Armstrong have all been added to the bullpen this offseason, so we’ll add one more to the mix. Graveman was a pretty good late-innings arm before shoulder surgery cost him all of 2024. He seems like a worthwhile addition to this hodgepodge bullpen the Rangers are putting together.
Toronto Blue Jays
Alex Bregman, 3B
This is the splash the Blue Jays have been trying to make for a couple of years. Bregman is a better fit — both short-term and long-term — than Alonso would have been, and he would give the Blue Jays one of the best infields in all of baseball alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and Andrés Giménez. Bregman is basically the biggest move any team could make, and the Blue Jays are as motivated as anyone to make it.
Washington Nationals
Kyle Finnegan, RHP
The Nationals are in a tough spot in a loaded NL East, but they went out of their way to add a couple of meaningful bats (Josh Bell, Nathaniel Lowe), they took an interesting gamble on Mike Soroka, and they have a couple of young outfielders just waiting to establish themselves as big league stars. Why do all that and leave the ninth inning unprotected? Finnegan has his shortcomings, but the Nationals never really replaced him this offseason, and at this point, bringing him back would be their best way to improve the bullpen.

No Self-Respecting Bethesda Fan Will Forgive Todd Howard if the Best New Vegas Companion Isn’t in Fallout Season 2
No Self-Respecting Bethesda Fan Will Forgive Todd Howard if the Best New Vegas Companion Isn’t in Fallout Season 2
Fallout was one of the most successful TV shows last year in 2024 and has become the second most-watched show on Amazon Prime Video. The show surpassed 100 million total views and is confirmed to be getting a second season.
We hope Todd Howard remembers this character from New Vegas. | Image Credit: Amazon Prime Video
What may also be confirmed is one of the locations set to feature in the upcoming season. According to recent set leaks, we are going to see Dinky the Dinosaur, a fan-favorite landmark from Fallout: New Vegas, and more from Bethesda’s 2010 title. But what other parts of New Vegas will we see? Lily Bowen better be in the game is all we’re saying.
Please, Todd Howard! Don’t Forget Grandma Lily!
She’s one of the best characters in New Vegas. | Image Credit: Bethesda Game Studios
Fallout Season 2 is already shaping up to be a love letter to New Vegas. New set leaks have given us early looks at iconic locations such as the “Welcome to Fabulous New Vegas” sign, The Tops Casino, and even Novac’s Dinky the Dinosaur. Given this attention to detail, we see no reason for Lily Bowen to be left out of the adaptation. She is, after all, one of the game’s most iconic companions.
Bethesda is clearly going to give us fan-favorite elements from the games, but that only raises expectations. If they’re bringing back Novac, then why stop there? We aren’t just looking for Easter eggs. Let us see the characters that made New Vegas special. No character better represents the mix of tragedy and absurdity in Fallout than Lily Bowen.
Aside from being a recruitable ally in Fallout: New Vegas, Lily is one of the most uniquely developed super mutants in the series. She was once a grandmother living peacefully in Vault 17 until she was forcibly transformed into a nightkin assassin for the Unity. After years of serving in brutal missions, she eventually found her way to Jacobstown where she took on the role of a caretaker for the settlement’s bighorner cattle.
The best part is that by the time we the player meet her, she’s no stealth assassin, just a “giant and sweet mutant grandma,” as one Redditor puts it. This duality of being an unstoppable killer while also hiding a gentle, grandmotherly side is what makes her so iconic. If Fallout Season 2 truly wants to capture the magic of New Vegas, she has to be in it.
There’s a lot to look forward to with Season 2
We can expect and hope for even better things. | Image Credit: Amazon Prime Video
Video game adaptations have finally broken the so-called “curse” of being poorly received. Fallout, The Last of Us, Arcane, and others have proved that these stories can be told well in live-action. If Todd Howard and the Fallout team truly want to honor the legacy of New Vegas, Lily Bowen’s inclusion is a must.
The first season has already proven it understands the heart of the franchise, balancing dark humor with deep world-building. Lily is the perfect example. One moment, she’s a gentle grandma calling you “pumpkin” and offering you gifts. The next, she’s tearing enemies apart with her blade, apologizing that you had to see her like that.
Fallout is truly a faithful expansion and adaptation of the franchise’s lore. The showrunners, Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, clearly understand the world they’re working with, and their attention to detail is very much awaited in Season 2.

Bitcoin Struggles Below 100k While Gold Hovers at Record Highs
Bitcoin is set to fall 3% this week.
XAU/USD is on track to book a 6th straight weekly rise.
Gold has attracted safe-haven flows, and BTC has acted like a tech stock.
BTC/USD technical analysis.
Bitcoin () continues to struggle below 100k, failing to draw investor enthusiasm, while powered to all-time highs this week.
Bitcoin is set to fall over 3% across the week after its recovery from Monday’s selloff failed to gain traction above the key 100k level. According to CryptoQuant, Bitcoin’s fair value lies around 48k to 95k, meaning that the price remains overvalued at its current level of 97k.
Gold Reaches Record Highs This Week
In contrast, gold is shining, having jumped over 9% year to date, reaching an all-time high of $2882, up 2.3% this week alone. The precious metal is on track to book its sixth straight weekly gain. Gold has soared due to its appeal as a store of value and safe-haven demand amid trade tariff uncertainty.
In the battle of the havens, gold has outperformed. From DeepSeek to trade wars, the markets have been dealing with much uncertainty and volatility over recent weeks. Bitcoin has acted more like a tech stock, while gold has been the safe haven of choice. The question is whether the rally in gold will help to spur gains in BTC/USD, as has historically been the case.
The weekly BTC vs chart highlights the strong correlation between the two assets, with the previous decoupling often resulting in renewed convergence.
Technical Analysis
After reaching an all-time high of 109.5k, Bitcoin has been trending lower. While the price recovered from the spike down to 91.5k to above 102.5k, the price failed to hold above 100k, falling 5% in 3 days. The price is testing the rising trendline support dating back to early October.
Sellers, supported by the RSI will look to break below this support, fuelling a deeper selloff towards 90k.
Any recovery would need to retake the 50 SMA and 100k to build towards 105k and 109.5k. AMD’s China-specific RX 7650 GRE slots in between RX 7600 and 7600 XT
Rumored since late last year, the RX 7650 GRE was finally launched today, and it’s essentially an RX 7600 with a slightly better clock speed (h/t VideoCardz).
Although this midrange GPU was leaked in October before CES 2025, AMD was expected to launch the 7650 GRE later, and that’s exactly what happened. Equipped with the Navi 33 graphics chip, the 7650 GRE has 32 compute units and a 128-bit wide memory bus, just like the RX 7600 and 7600 XT. It wasn’t clear whether it would have 8GB of VRAM like the 7600 or 16GB like the 7600 XT, but today, it’s official that the 7650GRE is an 8GB card.

The 7650 GRE’s boost clock is roughly in between the 7600’s and the 7600 XT’s: 2,695 MHz versus 2,625 MHz on the 7600 and 2,755 MHz on the XT model. To compensate for this, it also comes with a 170-watt TBP, just 5W more than the 7600. Otherwise, the 7650 GRE is the same as the 7600, with a single 8-pin power port, eight PCIe 4.0 lanes, and a memory bandwidth of 288GB/s.
The card is priced at 2,049 Yuan, roughly $280 today, about the same price as the RX 7600 in China. That’s in stark contrast to previous GRE cards, which were effectively discounted versions of initial launch cards. The RX 6750 GRE 12GB was the same as the RX 6700 XT, except it had an MSRP of $289, almost $200 less than the 6700 XT’s $479 launch price.
Of course, the 6700 XT was sold for less than MSRP in late 2023 when the 6750 GRE launched, but it still commanded a price of $350 or so, which is still significantly more expensive than the GRE rebrand.
AMD isn’t selling the 7650 GRE for less, probably because there’s very little reason to. The 6750 GRE was heavily discounted because there was an oversupply of RDNA 2 graphics cards that AMD needed to clear out ahead of RDNA 3. By contrast, AMD CEO Lisa Su said during the company’s Q1 2023 earnings call that it was intentionally “undershipping” consumer processors to compensate for lower demand. It seems that AMD was taking steps to avoid an oversupply of RDNA 3 GPUs, which seems to have been avoided.
Whether the RX 7650 GRE will come to the US is unclear, but if it does, we can probably expect it to come in at roughly the same price as the RX 7600, which is still going for its official MSRP or more.

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk on Friday launched a poll on his social media platform X asking users if a staffer at his DOGE team should be rehired after resigning over the exposure of tweets advocating for racism and eugenics.
“Bring back @DOGE staffer who made inappropriate statements via a now deleted pseudonym?” Musk wrote on a tweet, which carried the options “yes” and “no” for users to click on.
The staffer, Marko Elez, resigned Thursday after The Wall Street Journal asked the White House about the 25-year-old’s connection to an X account that had made a number of inflammatory posts.
“Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,” the account posted last summer, the Journal reported.
