  1. Trump says Putin agrees to start negotiations to end war in Ukraine Trump says Putin agrees to start negotiations to end war in Ukraine US President Donald Trump has said he had a “lengthy and highly productive” phone call with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in which the leaders agreed to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he and the Russian president had “agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately” and that he would begin by calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to inform him of their conversation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin supported Trump’s idea that the time had come to work together. He added that the phone call lasted nearly an hour and a half, during which Putin invited Trump to visit Moscow. Ukraine’s presidency later confirmed Zelensky had received a phone call from Trump, which lasted an hour, according to AFP news agency. The news comes as US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told members at a Nato summit that it was “unrealistic” to expect Ukraine to return to its pre-2014 borders. Spotted by Gematsu, GameStop has preorder listings for Digimon Story: Time Stranger for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. While no other information about the game is shown in the listing, it has a placeholder release date for December 31, 2025, indicating that it could be released this year. PlayStation’s February 2025 State of Play presentation is set to air later today, so Digimon Story: Time Stranger could be officially announced there. Back in 2017, Bandai Namco producer Kazumasa Habu confirmed that a new Digimon Story game was in development, so it’s been quite a few years since the last entry, which was 2018’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory. The last update we got from Habu was back during Digimon **** 2022, when he stated that the next Digimon Story game has a story themed around the Olympos XII, a group of 12 god-like Digimon, modeled after the real-life 12 Olympians. As for other possible reveals during the February 2025 State of Play, we may get more information about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. 3. Austria’s deadlock worsens as far-right exits coalition talks Austria’s deadlock worsens as far-right exits coalition talks Austria’s far-right populist Freedom Party says it has ended its attempts to form a coalition government with the conservative People’s Party, ÖVP. The announcement follows several weeks of heated negotiations and marks the second time coalition talks have failed since September’s election. The ÖVP first attempted to form a three-party coalition with the Social Democrats and the liberal NEOS, then a two-party coalition with the Social Democrats – but both efforts collapsed. With the Freedom Party unable to form a government, Austria is now in an unclear political situation. The leader of the Freedom Party Herbert Kickl blamed the ÖVP for the collapse, which he said was due to disagreements about minister posts. He told President Alexander Van der Bellen that he was giving up the mandate to form what would have been Austria’s first far-right-led government since the FPO was founded by former Nazis in the 1950s. The Russia-friendly Eurosceptic Freedom Party made history in September’s general election when it topped the polls for the first time with 28.8 per cent of the vote, narrowly beating Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s ÖVP, which got 26.3 per cent. Despite this, in October, President Van der Bellen first gave Nehammer the mandate to form a government. However, those negotiations collapsed in early January, leading Nehammer to resign and paving the way for interim Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg. On January 6, Van der Bellen gave Kickl the mandate to form a government after other parties’ efforts to create a coalition without the Freedom Party failed. Coalition negotiations in Austria usually remain secret, until a decision is reached. But over recent days, both parties issued statements about their demands, suggesting that the talks were in trouble. The Freedom Party wanted both the powerful finance ministry and the interior ministry, which was a major obstacle for the ÖVP. For its part, the ÖVP wanted confirmation of “the absence of Russian influence in Austria,” and Vienna remaining “a reliable partner to the European Union”. Kickl said on Wednesday that he was giving up the mandate, writing in a statement that he did “not take this step without regret”. He continued: “The ÖVP insisted on clarifying the allocation of portfolios at the beginning of February. Although we made concessions to the ÖVP on many points in the subsequent talks, the negotiations were ultimately unsuccessful, much to our regret.” The General Secretary of the ÖVP, Alexander Pröll said the talks had failed because Mr Kickl was on a “power trip” and had refused to compromise. “Herbert Kickl himself was hardly involved in the government negotiations. In 5 weeks, Kickl sat at the negotiating table for a total of 7 hours,” he said. “He did not fulfil his mandate to form… a centre-right government. Instead, he insisted on all his demands, developed fantasies of total power and ended the talks.” The political analyst Thomas Hofer told the BBC that there was “no base of trust” between the two parties. “Kickl tried to adopt Trump’s playbook of ‘promises kept’ but that’s hard in a coalition environment. “The ÖVP decided in the end that losing the two major ministries with a Chancellor Kickl who can’t be controlled, and no base of trust was too risky,” he said. The ÖVP was the only party that was willing to negotiate with the Freedom Party. Austria’s President Alexander Van der Bellen says his country now has four options after the collapse of the coalition talks. He said these were new elections, a ********* government, a government of experts or another attempt to form a government by the parliamentary parties. He said he would hold talks with the political parties in Austria over the next few days to see which option was realistic. “Liberal democracy lives from compromise,” he said. 5. Swiatek homes in on fourth-straight Qatar Open triumph Swiatek homes in on fourth-straight Qatar Open triumph Three-time champion Iga Swiatek has extended her winning streak in Doha to 14 matches as she battled past Linda Noskova to reach the quarter-finals at the Qatar Open. It kept the 23-year-old Pole on course in her bid to become the first woman this century to win the same WTA 1000 title four times in a row. But Swiatek, the world number two, had to work hard after dropping a set at the tournament for the first time since 2022 in Wednesday’s last-16 clash. Czech Noskova, ranked 33, fired down nine aces – a tournament high for a single set – as the opener went to a tiebreak, which the underdog won convincingly. Swiatek, without a title win since her fourth French Open success last June, finally cracked the Noskova serve in the second set on her way to levelling the match. The second seed then clinched a tight decider with a break for 5-4 and wrapped up a 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 6-4 win in two hours and 32 minutes. “Every match against Linda is always super tough,” said Swiatek in her on-court interview. “This was another won and I’m proud I was solid until the end but it wasn’t easy with her serve, which was kind of perfect.” Swiatek will take on fifth seed Elena Rybakina in the last eight in a rematch of last year’s final. “Elena is a really experienced player and you have to be 100 per cent to win,” she added. “So for sure I will use my experience, but it’s going to be a tough battle.” Swiatek and Rybakina are the highest seeds left in the draw after Jelena Ostapenko beat fourth seed Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-2. Rybakina earlier said she was “disappointed” that her long-time coach Stefano Vukov remains banned by the WTA following the conclusion of an investigation. The governing body revealed last month the Croatian was provisionally suspended from holding an official role at tournaments after Rybakina announced he was rejoining her team. Concerns have been raised over several years regarding Vukov’s behaviour towards Rybakina, who he coached to the Wimbledon title in 2022. Speaking to reporters after her win over Rebecca Sramkova in Doha, Rybakina said: “I’m just disappointed with the situation, and how the process went. I’m not going to comment much on that any more.” Rybakina, who had split from Vukov ahead of the US Open last summer before rehiring him, made it clear in Australia last month that she did not support the suspension. “I don’t agree with a lot of things what WTA do in the sense of my relationship with Stefano,” she said at the time. 6. Dead geese spark bird flu fears as migration fuels outbreak risk in Canada – National Dead geese spark bird flu fears as migration fuels outbreak risk in Canada – National Dead ********* geese are turning up more frequently across southern Ontario, and experts say bird flu is likely to blame. As migratory birds return to Canada this spring, health officials are bracing for a potential surge in bird flu cases. The highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), subtype H5N1, has already impacted both wild and domestic birds, and even a human case in British Columbia, raising concerns about its rapid spread as flocks move across the country. The situation gained attention after Parks Canada confirmed last week that a Canada goose in Rouge National Urban Park in Scarborough, Ont., tested positive for the virus. The bird’s remains showed clear signs of infection, and five other geese in the area have exhibited bird flu symptoms. The ********* Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC), told Global News on Tuesday that a growing number of bird flu cases have been detected across southern Ontario in recent weeks, primarily affecting ********* geese, which are particularly vulnerable to the virus. Story continues below advertisement And as more birds start migrating north for the spring, Shayan Sharif, professor at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, said the avian flu will likely spread even more. “There’s always a chance for migratory birds to spread the virus. I would say that’s really one of the main modes of transmission for this particular strain of virus,” he said. “The virus seems to be hitchhiking with migratory birds and there are different kinds of migratory birds. Canada geese are included among those migratory birds. There are also others, like ducks and so forth, that could potentially carry the virus from one place to another place.” 1:57 Screening for bird flu in Canada as U.S. cases soar Since Canada — especially Ontario — lies within major migratory flyways (large routes birds follow between their breeding and wintering grounds), like the Mississippi Flyway and, to some extent, the Atlantic Flyway, it could receive birds traveling from the south, some of which may be carrying the virus, Sharif added. Story continues below advertisement This concern appears to be playing out in real time. Get weekly health news Receive the latest medical news and health information delivered to you every Sunday. A TikTok user posted to the platform last week a video of what appeared to be several dead Canada geese half-submerged in the ice at a park in Brampton, Ont. Days later, the user posted another TikTok video showing more geese in the park, some lifeless and others appearing weak or incapacitated. The CWHC said the dead geese found in Brampton are suspected cases of avian flu and testing is currently underway to confirm the cause. Avian flu is common among waterfowl, such as geese and ducks, but it can also spread to birds of prey that consume infected birds. While rare, the virus has been detected in some terrestrial mammals, such as foxes. Domestic poultry, including chickens and turkeys, are also at risk, though transmission to humans remains uncommon. Although a few bird flu outbreaks are currently ongoing in Canada, Sharif noted that the large outbreaks seen in British Columbia last fall have subsided for now. Story continues below advertisement That’s because experts are beginning to recognize a seasonal pattern in avian flu, with outbreaks typically occurring during migration periods in the fall and spring. “Avian influenza viruses up until the most recent set of outbreaks that we’ve been witnessing since 2021 or 2022 … we always felt they don’t have a seasonal pattern of transmission,” Sharif said. “But over the last three years or so, it’s become quite clear that this particular strain, because it hitchhikes with migratory birds, it does actually have a seasonal pattern and the seasonal pattern is fall and spring.” However, he added that this doesn’t mean bird flu outbreaks can’t occur at other times of the year. 4:48 Health Matters: Concerns over bird flu and Global measles cases jumped 20% in 2023 Trending Now ‘Cold, callous’: Ex-Ontario fire captain who murdered wife handed life sentence New Brunswick border town reacts to Trump’s 51st state comments Migratory birds, like ducks and geese, spread bird flu by carrying the virus over long distances along their migration routes, Sharif explained. Story continues below advertisement They can get infected through contact with other sick birds or by spending time in contaminated environments such as wetlands and water sources. Once infected, they shed the virus in their droppings, saliva and nasal secretions, which can then contaminate food, water and habitats along their way. What’s tricky is that some infected birds don’t show symptoms, so they can unknowingly spread the virus to others as they travel. When they stop at familiar places like ponds and wetlands during migration, they can introduce the virus to new bird populations, causing it to spread even further. “The risk to the average person remains rather low, but what’s really important is that people exercise extra vigilance if they come across dead animals, especially wild birds,” said Matthew Miller, director of DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research at McMaster University. “They should avoid handling those animals and be extremely cautious with off-leash pets, particularly in open areas.” Sharif echoed this warning. 1:50 Hastings Prince Edward Public Health issues warning of bird flu in pets If a bird infected with avian flu is consumed by a domestic animal, like a dog or cat, it could potentially pass the virus to the ****, causing it to become infected. Story continues below advertisement “For animals, especially for dogs, I would highly suggest that dogs be kept away from any dead birds or any potential areas where birds might have landed because we never know what kind of birds are carrying the virus,” he said. When it comes to bird feeders, he added that while songbirds may not carry the virus, the feeders could attract waterfowl that do. “If those feeders are attracting unwanted guests in the form of ducks and geese, I highly suggest thinking twice about having those feeders installed,” he said. — With files from Global News’ Megan King More on Health More videos Source link #Dead #geese #spark #bird #flu #fears #migration #fuels #outbreak #risk #Canada #National Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Ten Blitz is a distinctive new take on sum-based puzzling, coming soon Ten Blitz is a distinctive new take on sum-based puzzling, coming soon Ten Blitz is a match-up puzzler where you need to create the number ten Hit a target market and meet the goal in a variety of game modes to succeed! Find it very soon on iOS and Android! The puzzle genre on mobile is a vast and deceptively deep one. Virtually every iteration on a format has been done, so it always stands out when we get something relatively new and fresh. And in the case of Ten Blitz, whether it’s due to the marketing of its developer team or just the format, it’s certainly one that explains its format quickly and intriguingly. The core gameplay of Ten Blitz is deceptively simple. Rather than something like a match-three you simply need to match two numbers which equals a ten. So, something like a 7 & 3 or a 6 & 4, simple right? Well, as you might expect things quickly get more complicated with differing modes and targets to hit, not to mention useful powerups to push the level along. Add onto that the fact you can only match tiles diagonally or horizontally and it’s a recipe for an intriguing twist on the match genre that I think we can all agree was growing a bit stale. Whether or not Ten Blitz holds up for long-term play though is up to you, the players. Blitz it I think Ten Blitz has a very good chance of being a success. I mean it’s already well on the way, with significant interest from players and some features on the iOS App Store. However, as I said above I’m a little sceptical whether it can grasp people long-term, especially when nowadays virtually every puzzler has to saturate itself with events and flashy graphics to keep people intrigued. Here’s hoping that Ten Blitz’s distinctive take on the formula manages to work out for them. Ten Blitz is now available for pre-order and is projected to release on February 13th In the meantime, if you’re struggling for more top puzzlers to work out your brain cells, don’t fret! This $190 Elden Ring Nightreign Helmet Probably Won’t Protect You, But At Least It Looks Cool This $190 Elden Ring Nightreign Helmet Probably Won’t Protect You, But At Least It Looks Cool Elden Ring Nightreign has an official release date of May 30, and fans looking to splurge on the co-op game can check out a very cool piece of merchandise being released alongside the standard and deluxe versions. While there is a $200 collector’s edition that comes with extra DLC, art books, and a statue, there’s also the $190 Wylder Helmet replica that you can preorder through the Bandai Store. This helmet and the stand combined weigh quite a bit as well. This is described as a 1:1 scale replica of the hero’s helmet, and it comes with everything you need to turn it into an attention-grabbing display piece in your home. Will it protect you from the Elden Lords, should they ever pierce the membrane separating our dimensions? Probably not, so you’ll want to consider using it only for cosplay purposes. Bandai says only 9,999 of these will be made, and they’ll be available starting May 30. One thing to also note here is that you’re not getting a copy of Elden Ring Nightreign with this replica, but it is a nice addition to your collection if you picked up any of the previously released Malenia and Messmer Elden Ring helmets that Bandai Namco sold for a limited time. Elden Ring Nightreign is the latest entry in From Software’s critically acclaimed souls-like franchise, following the release of Elden Ring in 2022 and its massive expansion Shadow of the Erdtree in 2024. “Elden Ring Nightreign requires you to play a From Software game the wrong way. It asks players to prioritize aggression over stoicism; encourages almost reckless speed over careful strategy; and casts aside meticulous exploration for smash-and-grab expeditions,” Tamoor Hussain wrote in GameSpot’s Elden Ring Nightreign preview. The game will launch for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One in May, and an invite-only network test will kick off on February 14 and run through February 17. Hegseth told NATO allies in Brussels that Europe would need to take on more responsibility in “safeguarding European security.” “The United States remains committed to the NATO alliance and to the defence partnership with Europe. Full stop,” Hegseth said. “But the United States will no longer tolerate an imbalanced relationship which encourages dependency. Rather, our relationship will prioritize empowering Europe to own responsibility for its own security.” That security includes Ukraine. Many allies have been waiting for clarity on how much military and financial support Washington will continue to provide the Ukrainian government under President Donald Trump‘s administration. Story continues below advertisement Instead, NATO officials and members were told they would have to take on more responsibility. Hegseth said Europe would need to provide the “overwhelming share of future lethal and non-lethal aid to Ukraine.” 1:15 NATO in ‘crisis mode,’ allies should boost Ukraine aid to meet defence spend goal: Secretary-General The secretary also said NATO membership for Ukraine was unrealistic and that the likelihood of Kyiv regaining its pre-2014 borders, including Crimea, was also unlikely. “We want, like you, a sovereign and prosperous Ukraine. But we must start by recognizing that returning to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective,” he said, calling that an “illusionary goal.” “A durable peace for Ukraine must include robust security guarantees to ensure that the war will not begin again. This must not be Minsk [agreements] 3.0. That said, the United States does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement.” Story continues below advertisement His comments came shortly before Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that he had a “lengthy and productive” phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. A down payment, as you said, Mr. Secretary [Mark Rutte], of peace through strength.” Story continues below advertisement The U.S. itself does not currently meet that five per cent rate expected by Trump. European allies have hiked their military budgets since Putin ordered his troops into Ukraine, and 23 of them are estimated to have reached or exceeded last year’s target of spending two per cent of gross domestic product, but a third still fall short — including Canada. Some U.S. allies worry that a hasty deal might be clinched on terms that aren’t favourable to Ukraine. 17. ‘Måke Califørnia Great Ægain’: Over 200K Danes sign ‘buy’ California petition – National ‘Måke Califørnia Great Ægain’: Over 200K Danes sign ‘buy’ California petition – National The satirical “Denmarkification” petition to buy California from the U.S. has gained traction online following U.S. President Donald Trump’s current bid to acquire Greenland. The online petition, which has garnered more than 200,000 signatures, begins with “Måke Califørnia Great Ægain” at the top of the petition website. “Los Angeles? More like Løs Ångeles. Have you ever looked at a map and thought, ‘You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates,’” the campaign website reads. “Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality,” it continues. “Let’s buy California from Donald Trump!” Danes who have signed the petition are encouraged to donate for the fundraising goal of $1 trillion — “give or take a few billion” — and the target of 500,000 signatures. Story continues below advertisement There are also five major incentives for Danes to sign the petition: sunshine, tech, avocado toast, protecting the free world and Disneyland — which the petition calls to rename “Hans Christian Andersenland,” after the Danish fairy tale author of The Little Mermaid. “Mickey Mouse in a Viking helmet? Yes, please,” the petition reads. “Trump isn’t exactly California’s biggest fan. He’s called it ‘the most ruined state in the Union’ and has feuded with its leaders for years. We’re pretty sure he’d be willing to part with it for the right price.” The website also suggests sending in their best negotiators, including Lego executives, to help purchase California. 2:20 Here’s why Trump is getting serious about acquiring Greenland “We’ll even throw in a lifetime supply of Danish pastries to sweeten the deal,” according to the petition. “As for the will of the citizens? Well, let’s face it – when has that ever stopped him? If Trump wants to sell California, he’ll sell California.” Story continues below advertisement But of course, every petition needs some fine print, way down at the bottom: “Disclaimer: This campaign is 100% real … in our dreams.” Get daily National news Get the day’s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day. Xavier Dutoit, the petition’s organizer, got the idea last month while vacationing in the Philippines. He overheard an American tourist loudly discussing Trump’s Greenland pitch. “That American didn’t seem to grasp how unhinged and absurd it was for any country’s President — especially in a stable democracy that the U.S.A. claims to be — to offer or threaten to take over another sovereign country’s territory,” Dutoit told The Associated Press. The petition has gained more attention following a new bill that was introduced by U.S. Republican Rep. Buddy Carter on Tuesday. The bill would give Trump the power to enter into negotiations with Denmark to acquire Greenland and rename it “Red, White, and Blueland” if it passes the House and Senate. Story continues below advertisement “America is back and will soon be ******* than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,” Carter said in a statement. “President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal.” Carter’s new proposal gives the Office of the Secretary of the Interior six months after the bill’s potential passage to ensure that federal documents are updated reflecting the new name of “Red, White and Blueland.” Last month, Danish politician Anders Vistisen did not hold back when he issued a public message to Trump over his pitch to make Greenland part of the United States. “Dear President Trump, listen very carefully,” Vistisen said in European Parliament. “Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It’s an integrated part of our country. It is not for *****.” 0:30 ‘Mr. Trump, F**** off!’ Danish politician lashes out at U.S. president’s pitch to acquire Greenland Trending Now Trump threatens ********* cars with tariffs up to 100% ‘Cold, callous’: Ex-Ontario fire captain who murdered wife handed life sentence Vistisen went on to use some profanity that got him in trouble with the rest of the European Parliament. Story continues below advertisement “Let me put it in words you might understand,” he said. “Mr. Trump, f–k off!” Nicolae Stefanuta, vice-president of the European Parliament, jumped in and told Vistisen that language was not acceptable. “If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this house and there will be consequences to the message you have used,” Stefanuta said. “It is not OK in this house of democracy. Thank you. Regardless of what we think of Mr. Trump, it is not possible to use such language.” Trump was asked about Greenland by reporters after he took office on Jan. 20. “Greenland is a wonderful place, we need it for international security,” Trump responded. “I’m sure that Denmark will come along — it’s costing them a lot of money to maintain it, to keep it.” On Jan. 21, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute B. Egede addressed Trump’s comments about the territory. “We are Greenlanders. We don’t want to be Americans. We don’t want to be Danish either. Greenland’s future will be decided by Greenland. Our country and our people will decide what happens to Greenland.” 1:30 Russia says ‘scary’ Trump remarks on Greenland have European leaders ‘reacting very cautiously’ In January, Trump said he wouldn’t rule out using force or economic pressure to make Greenland — a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark — part of the United States. He insisted it was a matter of national security for the U.S. Story continues below advertisement “We need Greenland for national security purposes,” Trump told reporters on Jan. 7. Trump has previously cast doubts on the legitimacy of Denmark’s claim to Greenland. Addressing Trump’s comments in an interview with Danish broadcaster TV2, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the United States Denmark’s “most important and closest ally,” and said she did not believe that the United States would use military or economic power to secure control over Greenland. Frederiksen repeated that she welcomed the United States taking a greater interest in the Arctic region, but said it would “have to be done in a way that is respectful of the Greenlandic people.” “At the same time, it must be done in a way that allows Denmark and the United States to still cooperate in, among other things, NATO,” Frederiksen said. — With files from The Associated Press More on World More videos Source link #Måke #Califørnia #Great #Ægain #200K #Danes #sign #buy #California #petition #National Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Thankfully, there was no tush push. The 76-year-old monarch visited Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London as part of a community event sponsored by the Premier League club and the NFL on Wednesday. The king got some throwing advice from Phoebe Schecter, captain of Britain’s women’s flag football team, and then gave it a shot himself. Efe Obada, a British-********* defensive end who played for the Washington Commanders for the past three seasons, said the king “got stuck in” and had good energy. “His technique wasn’t immaculate, I wanted him to get a little closer to the target so he could get it in but he was having a great time and got a good reception,” Obada said. 21. RTX 5070 allegedly delayed until early March to counter AMD RX 9070 launch RTX 5070 allegedly delayed until early March to counter AMD RX 9070 launch A new rumor suggests that Nvidia’s mid-range RTX 5070, previously slated for a launch later this month, has been delayed to early March, per MEGAsizeGPU at X. Its elder Ti-class sibling should still arrive on time. However, considering the infamous RTX 5090/RTX 5080 launch, we cannot comment on GPU’s retail availability. If true, it’s probably no coincidence that this “delay” coincides with AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 series. To recap, the RTX 5070 was unveiled by Jensen Huang at CES last month, wielding the GB205 GPU at its heart with 48 SMs (6,144 CUDA cores) and 12GB of GDDR7 memory. The GPU offers a 192-bit interface, equating to six memory modules, filled by 28 Gbps GDDR7 ICs for 672 GB/s of bandwidth. Nvidia has set a launch MSRP of $549 for the RTX 5070, which is $50 cheaper than the last-generation RTX 4070. Instead of declaring a definite launch date, Nvidia said the RTX 5070 would supposedly launch with the RTX 5070 Ti in February, but that’s no longer true. Renowned tipster MEGAsizeGPU, in a tweet, alleged that the RTX 5070 is delayed, with retail availability pushed back to early March, likely to thwart AMD’s RDNA 4 launch. In light of recent leaked benchmarks putting the RX 9070 XT just behind the RTX 4080 Super (in raster), Nvidia’s RTX 5070 marketing may hinge on pricing instead of performance. The RTX5070 will be delayed. Instead of February, it will be on the shelf in early March.February 12, 2025 During the RTX 50 reveal, Jensen Huang very proudly asserted the RTX 5070 is equal to the RTX 4090 (with MFG), which might be misleading for many unsuspecting consumers. The RTX 5080 barely edges the RTX 4080 Super by just 9%, which is quite disappointing for a gen-on-gen uplift, especially considering the RTX 4080 was 38% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti. In terms of other capabilities, Blackwell offers many new features such as Reflex 2.0, Smooth Motion, Multi Frame Generation, and…. more AI horsepower. Still, it’s best to temper expectations and anticipate a 15-20% uplift in (raster) performance, at best, versus the RTX 4070. Both cards in the RX 9070 family are reportedly packed with 16GB of memory, and as a result, AMD is marketing these GPUs as 4K-ready. The same cannot be said about the RTX 5070, which might struggle with VRAM-hungry titles at higher resolutions. Even though Nvidia is working on Neural Texture Compression (NTC) technology to reduce texture memory footprint, it’s still a ways off from mainstream adoption. Please click here and view the “Content and social-media partners” setting to do so. Roll up, gamers. It’s time for your latest influx of PlayStation knowledge. Sony is hosting its first State of Play stream of 2025 today (February 12) at 5PM ET. The showcase will focus on PS5 games. You’ll be able to watch it on the PlayStation website or the brand’s YouTube and Twitch channels. Or, you know, by hitting the big play button on the YouTube video embedded above. The State of Play will run for about 40 minutes, so there should be lots of juicy details here. Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach are both slated for 2025 debuts, so we could get release dates for those. For what it’s worth, Death Stranding 2 director Hideo Kojima recently teased that he was working on a new trailer and he’s appearing at an SXSW panel next month to talk about the game. Other first-party projects such as Marvel’s Wolverine, Marathon and Fairgame$ could get a look in during the State of Play. It seems far too early for us to get another peek at Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, though there’s a chance that we’ll finally find out the exact release date for season two of The Last of Us on HBO. As for third-party games, it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll see a trailer and release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater since, whoops, Sony itself leaked those last week. Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are making the leap over from Xbox this spring, so release date reveals for those during the State of Play would make sense. Rumors also suggest that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, a remastered collection of the first three Gears of War games and even the Halo series, Xbox’s crown jewel, will cross the great divide to PlayStation. Perhaps we’ll learn about some of those during the stream too. In any case, you’ll be able to find coverage of all the big State of Play news on a cool website called Engadget dot com. 23. An Unexpected Surge In Inflation Has Put A Big Trump Promise At Risk An Unexpected Surge In Inflation Has Put A Big Trump Promise At Risk President Donald Trump’s election promise to bring down the cost of living took a bruising Wednesday as figures showed that U.S. inflation surged last month. The consumer price index increased 3% in January from a year ago, according to the report from the Labor Department, which showed an increase of 2.9% in the previous month. It has risen from a three-and-a-half-year low of 2.4% in September. The cost of groceries, gas, and used cars rose ― with the cost of eggs spiraling. With farmers hit by the avian flu epidemic, egg prices leaped by 15.2%, the biggest monthly increase since June 2015. Egg prices are up 53% from last year. The unexpectedly hot inflation figures blow a hole in one of Trump’s biggest pledges on the campaign trail. “We will end inflation and make America affordable again, and we’re going to get the prices down. We have to get them down,” he said at a rally in September. “It’s too much. Groceries, cars, everything. We’re going to get the prices down.” Yet shortly after the election, Trump started to scale back his ambitions. “It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up,” he said in a November interview with Time. “You know, it’s very hard.” Soon after the figures were released, Trump went into blame mode. He suggested that former President Joe Biden was the reason for the spike, not his own economic policies, which economists have warned risk pushing costs higher. “BIDEN INFLATION UP!” he wrote on Truth Social. The latest inflation figures mean an imminent interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve is unlikely. Earlier Wednesday, Trump called for rates to come down, claiming cheaper money would “go hand in hand” with his tariffs agenda. “Interest Rates should be lowered, something which would go hand in hand with upcoming Tariffs!!!” he wrote. “Lets Rock and Roll, America!!!” The Federal Reserve ignored Trump’s previous demand to cut rates, holding the benchmark rate for two weeks. 24. Fallout Star Says No One Will Predict What Happens In Season 2 Fallout Star Says No One Will Predict What Happens In Season 2 It’s not just Walton Goggins who is hyping Fallout Season 2. Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy, said at MegaCon Orlando recently that Season 2 is a “wild ride” that may surprise viewers. “It’s going to be really good, I think. It’s a wild ride,” she said, as reported by ScreenRant. “I’m really exhausted. We’re working really well to get it out on time.” That last line may be a reference to how production on Fallout Season 2 was delayed briefly due to the Los Angeles wild fires. Season 2 was expected to resume filming in early January in California following a holiday break, but those plans changed when the fires ripped through the area. Filming later resumed and remains ongoing. Purnell went on to say anyone who thinks they know what will happen in Season 2 should think again. “I think no one’s going to be able to predict what happens. There’s some big twists this time around. Yeah, it’s so fun,” Purnell said. Without giving anything away, Fallout Season 1 also had some significant twists and turns, so even more coming in Season 2 is keeping with tradition for the show. Season 1 ended with many mysteries still to be unraveled, so Purnell might be referring to some of that in her coy response about Season 2. Before this, Goggins–who plays The Ghoul–said he thought Season 1 was great but Season 2 “blows it out of the water.” For more, check out GameSpot’s Fallout TV show review. We also have an explainer for the ending of Season 1. The first season was a big success in terms of ratings, reaching 80 million viewers. As for the Fallout game series, Bethesda Game Studios is working on Fallout 5, but it’s not coming anytime soon. The developer’s next big release is The Elder Scrolls VI, which has been in the works for years and has no release date yet. 25. May 2024 Solar Storm Triggers Unusual Radiation Belts, Raising Space Safety Concerns May 2024 Solar Storm Triggers Unusual Radiation Belts, Raising Space Safety Concerns A significant solar storm that occurred in May 2024 led to the formation of two temporary radiation belts around Earth, as confirmed by satellite data. The discovery was made when a dormant satellite resumed operations after months of inactivity. The storm, which was among the most intense geomagnetic disturbances since 1989, resulted in widespread auroral displays and introduced high-energy particles into the Earth’s magnetosphere. While such temporary belts have been documented before, scientists have found that one of the newly formed belts exhibited unique properties, with a composition different from previous observations. One of the belts has already dissipated, but the other remains intact, posing potential challenges for future space missions. Temporary Radiation Belts Detected Following Intense Solar Activity According to research published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, the Colorado Inner Radiation Belt Experiment (CIRBE) satellite identified the new radiation belts upon reactivation in June 2024. The spacecraft had gone silent due to a technical issue in April, missing the peak of the storm. Upon its return, data analysis revealed the existence of two additional belts situated between the pre-existing Van Allen radiation belts. It was determined that while the first belt contained high-energy electrons, consistent with previous storm-induced radiation belts, the second belt displayed an unusual concentration of high-energy protons. This presence of protons was linked to the extreme nature of the solar storm, which had released significant bursts of charged particles into Earth’s magnetic field. Extended Lifespan of the Newly Formed Belts Temporary radiation belts generated by solar storms are known to persist for weeks before dispersing. However, as per the findings, the electron-dominated belt remained for three months, while the proton-rich belt is still present. David Sibeck, a heliophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, stated in an interview with Space.com that these particles could stay trapped for an extended *******, creating a lasting impact on Earth’s inner radiation environment. The proton belt’s resilience is attributed to its location in a more stable region of Earth’s magnetic field, where external disturbances have less impact. In contrast, a subsequent solar storm in June 2024 caused a reduction in the electron belt, with further weakening observed in August. Despite this, the proton belt has remained largely unaffected. Implications for Space Missions and Satellite Operations The existence of these new radiation belts has raised concerns regarding the safety of satellites and crewed space missions. Charged particles at high energy levels can pose risks to electronic components and human health in space. Spacecraft passing through these regions, particularly those traveling to geostationary orbit or beyond, may require additional shielding to mitigate radiation exposure. As reported, the presence of these belts could necessitate adjustments in launch plans for future missions. With prolonged radiation hazards, space agencies may need to factor in the evolving space weather conditions before deploying satellites or sending astronauts beyond Earth’s orbit. Despite the CIRBE satellite’s crucial discovery, the same solar activity that led to the identification of the new radiation belts also caused the spacecraft’s eventual demise. The increased energy injected into the atmosphere resulted in greater drag, which led to CIRBE’s descent and disintegration in October 2024. The impact of solar storms on Earth’s magnetosphere continues to be closely monitored, with scientists studying how these phenomena affect both planetary and technological systems.
