Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has dropped a new trailer showcasing new creatures you’ll fight
Several new creatures showcased in the latest sneak peek
They will be part of the Altar of Memories multiplayer mode
Some of them have never been seen in Game of Thrones before
Netmarble has shared a new sneak peek at Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, highlighting some of the legendary creatures you’ll encounter in the world of Westeros. This latest look gives a first glimpse at Drogon, who appears as a Field Boss, along with a variety of powerful monsters inspired by George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
These new creatures you see will form part of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad’s Altar of Memories, a multiplayer mode where you can team up to take on formidable enemies. Some of these beasts have never been seen in a Game of Thrones adaptation before, making their debut in an original and visually striking way.
Among the most fearsome are the Ice Spiders, described in legend as large as hounds. Said to have been ridden by the White Walkers, they lurk in dark caves, moving silently along ceilings before ambushing with venomous attacks.
The Stormhorn Unicorns, a rare species from Skagos, use their powerful horns and towering size to strike down enemies. Known for their connection to thunderstorms, these creatures add an electrifying new dynamic to battle.
Then we have the Ironbeak Griffins who once ruled the valleys of the Westerlands, building their nests in abandoned mines. With sharp talons and keen eyesight, they attack from above, making them dangerous adversaries.
Finally, you can take on the terrifying Red Cockatrice, a monstrous mix of dragon and rooster. With a razor-sharp beak and deadly claws, it can take down anything unfortunate enough to cross its path. And while you wait, go on more thrilling journeys by checking out this list of best RPGs on Android!
Beyond facing these legendary creatures, you’ll also step into a brand-new story, taking on the role of an heir to House Tyre, a tiny noble house in the North. A detailed character creator lets you shape your identity before choosing between three classes: Sellsword, Knight, or Assassin, each inspired by characters from the Game of Thrones universe.

Apple’s new Powerbeats Pro will measure your pulse through your ears
Apple’s new Powerbeats Pro will measure your pulse through your ears
Apple is launching its first earphones that can measure pulse. For months, there has been speculation that the iPhone maker could soon upgrade its AirPods with this feature – but now it is the new Powerbeats Pro 2 that are the first to get the feature.
This fits a product line that is geared towards sports. It’s not the first company to add this feature, and Apple is competing against several rivals that already equip their earphones with heart rate monitors.
The first Powerbeats Pro came out in 2019. The new generation retained the distinctive ear clip – but it was refined. According to Apple, the earphones have also become a fifth smaller and lighter, while battery life has been extended.
The clamp is an additional safeguard to prevent the Powerbeats Pro from slipping out of your ears. And they really do sit rock-solid in them.
No matter whether you are jogging, jumping or sprinting – even longer periods of activity can’t loosen their hold. This also means that you don’t experience the drawback of many earphones with rubber tips, where you feel a dull vibration with every step.
A secure fit
One side effect of the strong hold is that it takes some practice to correctly place the new Powerbeats Pro in your ears – at least without triggering playback (and turning it off again, and starting again…).
It’s also worth running the fit check in the settings, at least in the beginning. Because even small gaps audibly reduce the quality of the active noise cancellation. To ensure a tight fit, Apple is including five sizes of rubber tips for the ear canal this time.
As befits a new generation after more than five years, the Powerbeats Pro 2 have an improved amplifier and a newly developed mini-speaker with a diameter of 9.5 millimetres. The result is powerful bass with precise high notes. In addition, the new earphones support 3D audio in Dolby Atmos format.
Unlike the new Beats Solo model, for example, the Powerbeats Pro 2 have Apple’s H2 chip and not the in-house semiconductor system – because of the high computing requirements, the company says. This means that they integrate seamlessly into the Apple ecosystem. For use on Android smartphones, you are heavily dependent on the Beats app.
As sports earphones, the Powerbeats Pro 2 are protected against sweat and water with an IPX4 rating. Each of the two earphones has physical buttons for volume control in addition to the usual multifunction button. The idea behind this is to make operation as easy as possible, even with sweaty fingers or gloves.
One charge should last for 10 hours of music playback. With the quick charge function, five minutes in the case should provide up to an hour and a half of battery life.
How does the pulse measurement work?
First of all, if you’re using an Apple Watch Sport anyway, you can skip this part for now. That’s because when the pulse is measured simultaneously at the wrist and in the ear, Apple currently prefers the measurement taken by the watch.
However, the company assures that there are no accuracy issues with the Powerbeats Pro. The smaller sensors and the calculation algorithms also benefit from years of experience with the watch.
When used with an iPhone, the heart rate measurement automatically turns on when you start a workout in one of several supported apps from developers such as Nike and Peloton. During the activity, you can ask Siri, the voice assistant, for your current heart rate. On Android, you have to start the measurement on the earphones or via the Beats app.
The new Powerbeats Pro come in four colours: diamond ******, quicksand, hyper purple and fluorescent orange. The price is $250 in the US or €300 in the EU.

Willl There Be a Days Gone 2? Sequel Status Explained
Willl There Be a Days Gone 2? Sequel Status Explained
Days Gone 2 is a sequel many gaming fans have wanted for a long time. Its sales suggested the debut title was a success, but 6 years later, we’re still twiddling our thumbs, waiting to get our Freaker on for Days Gone 2.
I’m glad I get to write about Days Gone as I think it’s one of the most underrated games of all time. I played it when it first came out, and I’ll never understand the lukewarm critical reception it got. Freakers and hoards are utterly terrifying, the story is consistently engaging throughout, and it’s a rock-solid survival title from start to finish.
Rumors circulated in late 2024 that a Days Gone PS5 Remaster was in the works. This finally happened at Sony’s February 2025 State of Play. Now, the Days Gone 2 discourse is hotter than ever.
Is a Days Gone 2 Sequel Happening?
Could it be? Credit to Bend Studio
As it stands, a Days Gone 2 sequel is not in development, nor is it on the cards—and there’s a good chance it will never happen.
It breaks my heart writing this, and I hope I get to backtrack on everything I’m writing one day. But we believe developer Bend Studio has moved on and was working on a live-service title before it was canceled by Sony. This means outside of Days Gone’s Broken Road DLC—and now the Days Gone Remastered release—this may be all the Days Gone content we get.
Oh, and we also mustn’t forget its connection to Astro Bot—something Days Gone’s director wasn’t keen on.
Why Hasn’t Days Gone Had a Sequel?
It’s been widely reported Sony was not the biggest fan of Days Gone when it first came out, despite the game selling very well.
Days Gone took a long time to develop and probably cost a decent amount of money to make and market. But Game World Observer reported in 2023 Days Gone had sold close to 7.5 million copies—bettering Bloodborne and 2016’s Ratchet & Clank—and by now, it’s probably closer to 8 million—with the Remaster sure to give it a boost.
Despite this, Jeff Ross—a senior member of the Days Gone team—had this to say on there being no sequel: “A lot of people still ask me if there will ever be a Days Gone sequel, so I submit this poster as evidence it will never happen. Sony higher ups like Hermen were never fans, so you won’t hear about it at the PlayStation State of Play today or ever.”
I think the only way we’re going to see a sequel is if there’s interest. The Days Gone remaster needs to sell well, and people need to show they want another game. Plus, if Bend Studio’s rumored live-service title has been stopped, it means they’re free. Maybe they have some time to develop a certain Zombie-game sequel?
In short, if you want a Days Gone 2 sequel, support it by buying it. Post about it on social media, make videos, and everything in between. What are your memories of Days Gone? Is it scandalous we’ve never had a Days Gone 2?
Check out more amazing remasters and remakes coming in 2025.

If GTA 6 does come to Switch 2, I’m ready for Nintendo’s image to mature
If GTA 6 does come to Switch 2, I’m ready for Nintendo’s image to mature

Haha, no worries, man.
I know we butt heads here and there, but that’s just part of the fun when you’re passionate about a hobby and industry.
You bring up an interesting point about holding a generation back—I definitely felt that was the case with cross-gen support this gen, but that’s more like PS4 and PS5. But in Nintendo’s case, I don’t think it’ll be as much of an issue.
It’s probably going to play out similarly to the Switch, where we saw downgraded ports and some reliance on cloud streaming for more demanding games. Nintendo has a cockroach-level survival instinct when it comes to this stuff. Look at the Wii—third-party publishers largely ignored it, yet it still built a strong library and thrived.
I almost feel like third-party titles on Nintendo platforms never really outsell their PlayStation or Xbox counterparts. But Nintendo operates more like Disney—its first-party games have that pop-culture level of popularity, where so many people want the new Zelda or Mario that it makes up for any technical shortcomings because, well… they’re icons and it doesn’t hurt that the games are pretty exceptional, sans looking a generation old.
I’ve always seen Nintendo consoles as something you buy for Nintendo games. That’s just how they’ve always played the game.

School kids are behaving better since mobile phones were banned in schools nationwide
Students across the country are less distracted since mobile phones were banned in the classrooms, new research shows.
A survey from NSW Department of Education, revealed 87 per cent of students were less distracted in the classroom since mobile phones were banned a year ago.
The study, which surveyed 1000 public school principals, showed 81 per cent of students have seen improved learning.
In South Australia, there has been a 63 per cent decline in critical incidents involving social media and 54 per cent fewer behavioural issues, a similar survey from the Department for Education of South Australia shows.

Meanwhile, the number of teenagers aged 14 to 17 using vapes nationwide has declined after new federal vaping laws banning the ***** of them in corner stores came into effect six months ago.
Vaping rates have dropped by a third in 15 to 29-year-olds, according to the South *********** Health and Medical Research Institute compared to data from 2024 to 2023, according to the ******* Council’s Generation Vape research.
South *********** schools have also seen a reduction of 50 per cent in suspensions relating to vaping since the changes.
Education minister Jason Clare said these bans were improving the lives of children.
“Our ban on mobile phones and our ban on vapes are improving behaviour in classrooms,” he said.
“Teachers tell me these bans are making a world of difference.
“There are less distractions in the classroom and playgrounds are noisy again. Children are being children.
“This is helping teachers and parents and supporting happier, healthier children.”

The government’s next step in rolling out its safety plan for children will be the rollout of setting a minimum age of 16 years accessing social media.
The government in December committed to delivering these changes within 12 months of the legislation passing last year.
Communications minister Michelle Rowland said new social media age limit of 16 will complement the government’s ongoing work with states and territories to tackle bullying across the country.
“The Albanese Government is protecting young Australians from the harms that come with social media, and supporting mums, dads, and carers to keep their kids safe,” Ms Rowland said.
“Keeping children safe is a collective responsibility, and we are stepping up to play our role.
“We’ve listened to young people, parents and carers, experts and industry in developing these landmark laws to ensure they are centred on protecting young people – not isolating them.
“We will continue to act in the interests of young people and vulnerable Australians.”

Plane Passenger Publicly Shamed by Flight Attendant After He Threw Tantrum About Reclining, Tried to Steal Storage Space
Plane Passenger Publicly Shamed by Flight Attendant After He Threw Tantrum About Reclining, Tried to Steal Storage Space
An airline passenger was left amazed when the person sitting in front of them tried to take over their personal storage space — and threw a tantrum after they were confronted about it.
In a Reddit post shared to the r/UnitedAirlines subreddit on Thursday, Feb. 13, a frequent flyer who wrote that they were a member of United Airlines‘ Premier 1K program shared an unusual argument they had with the person sitting in front of them.
“So this is a new one for me…” the Redditor began. “…Did my pre-board, sat in my window seat, second row of exit. Put my briefcase under the seat. A few minutes later, another passenger sat in the window seat directly in front of me.”
“Did not think anything about this but felt my briefcase pushing against my feet. I am thinking, ‘WTF?’ ” the user continues. “I look under the seat and see the person in front of me trying to push their laptop bag under their seat, and into my under-seat storage.”

The Redditor learned forward to tell the passenger in front of them: “Uh, the space you are trying to put your laptop bag is my storage, the space under the seat in front of you is your storage space.”
“The person freaks out… ‘I am a uber million miles flyer and the space under my seat is my storage space, not yours so stop pushing back against my bag,’ ” the Redditor recounts, revealing they immediately thought to call over the flight attendant — but decided against it after the passenger offered them a few choice words.
“Of course, this person says ‘FU,’ and turns around and slams back into their seat,” the user writes. “I am thinking, ‘Wow, never had that happen before…’ “
The “funniest part” of the whole situation came just a minute later, the Redditor writes, after they could see the person in front of them “slamming back into the seat in an attempt to recline.”

“Anyone that flies even a little bit knows that the seats in an exit row, or those before the exit row do not recline,” they continue. “This person thought I was pushing against the seat, I guess, because they reach up, push the attendant call button.”
“The attendant was there in a [second] and the person said that I am somehow not allowing them to recline. I am thinking, ‘Wow, can this morning get any better?’ ” the post continues. “The attendant politely explains that this seat does not recline due to it being in an exit row.”
The Redditor writes that their fellow passenger freaked out again, telling the flight attendant: “This is [bulls—], I am an uber million miles flyer and have never had this issue on any other airline. I will never fly United ever again.”

“Interestingly, the flight attendant says to the passenger, ‘I think we need to move you as you cannot sit in the exit row since you do not understand the exit row requirements,’ ” the Reddit user writes.
“I was waiting for another blow up, but the person just realized they were not going to fly if they kept this up, so got up and moved to another seat, of course behind the exit row, and another person got a nice upgrade,” the post ends, with the Reddit user joking that the incident was “amazing.”
Tons of commenters agreed with the original poster, writing that they especially felt bad for the flight attendant who became “babysitters for adults.”
“She was no nonsense. I really appreciate this…” the original poster wrote of the flight attendant.
“Sounds like a person who has never flown once in their years of living,” another commenter added.
Another chimed in: “I don’t believe these people are ignorant, just trying to be jerks and cow others into letting them do it.”

AMD confirms big reveal for RX 9070 GPUs on February 28, on-***** date is early March – so it looks like a head-to-head clash with Nvidia’s RTX 5070
AMD confirms big reveal for RX 9070 GPUs on February 28, on-***** date is early March – so it looks like a head-to-head clash with Nvidia’s RTX 5070
AMD has confirmed its full RDNA 4 launch event for February 28
These initial RX 9070 models will go on ***** in early March
That sets up the RX 9070 for a showdown against Nvidia’s RTX 5070 which hits shelves on March 6
AMD has revealed that its RDNA 4 graphics cards will get a full launch event – as opposed to the fleeting announcements made at CES 2025 – in two weeks, ahead of the March release for these GPUs.
David McAfee, who is AMD’s VP and GM of Ryzen and Radeon, let us know the date and time to mark in our calendars is February 28 at 8am EST (5am PST, 1pm *** time) via a post on X.
The wait is almost over. Join us on February 28 at 8 AM EST for the reveal of the next-gen @AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series. Get ready to make it yours when it hits shelves in early March. RSVP by subscribing to the AMD YouTube channel: [Hidden Content] 13, 2025
The AMD exec also said that the long-awaited RX 9070 models will hit shelves in early March.
When the RX 9070 XT and plain RX 9070 were announced back at CES 2025 last month, the broad expectation was that they’d arrive earlier in the first quarter, rather than later.
That hope had cold water poured over it when AMD confirmed these RDNA 4 graphics cards were delayed to March, and McAfee took to X in order to explain why. Namely to ensure that AMD’s Adrenalin graphics drivers are fully tuned and ready to go to ensure the best performance for RX 9070 GPUs out of the gate, and also to bring in more support for FSR 4 in PC games (achieving the same end, effectively).
Analysis: One final worry…
Crucially, McAfee also mentioned that another reason for putting off the release of RDNA 4 GPUs to March was to build up stock levels of the graphics cards at retail.
Now, I’m reading the release date being set at “early March” to mean the first week of next month, and that makes sense if we turn our attention to Nvidia’s plans. We just heard from AMD’s main GPU rival that its GeForce RTX 5070 is going to be on ***** come March 5.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
So, it looks to me very much like there’s going to be a head-to-head clash of the mid-range GPUs, more-or-less, just after March rolls around, with AMD aiming to take Nvidia on directly here.
Team Red may well be buoyed by the general shakiness of stock levels for Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs so far, and (believable enough) rumors that the RTX 5070 may not be that much different from the RTX 5080 and 5090 in this respect. After all, Nvidia did announce that the RTX 5070 models would both launch in February – the Ti version, and vanilla spin – and has then pushed back the non-Ti graphics card to March. That broken promise doesn’t feel like a good sign, stock-wise, to me.
In contrast, AMD seems more confident about relatively robust levels of supply for RDNA 4, and indeed we know that these GPUs have been at retailers since January. That’s thanks to leaked photos from those shops, and moreover, Team Red’s own confirmation that board-making partners had “started building initial inventory at retailers” back in January.
On top of that, there are some compellingly positive rumors about the potential performance levels we’ll see from RX 9070 models to boot, and sources elsewhere indicate AMD really is taking its time over this next-gen GPU launch to get it right.
The only worry that remains is pricing, and whether AMD’s apparent confidence with this mid-range showdown against Nvidia’s RTX 5070 models might mean the company pushes a bit higher with asking prices for the RX 9070 variants.
If you scan through the replies to McAfee’s post on X, that’s the consistent thread of worry throughout from the respondents who have less positive thoughts on RDNA 4. In short, the fear is that Nvidia’s stumbling Blackwell launch might mean AMD decides to charge more for RX 9070 GPUs – although having set up its stall as these being mid-range graphics cards, there’s surely a limit to how far Team Red might be able to push here, if this was a temptation?
Time will tell, and I remain hopeful that AMD won’t drive to any excesses here – this is a great opportunity to take the fight to Nvidia, after all. At the same time, I’m not anticipating a surprise with lower pricing either, as given how the market stands right now, that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Still, whatever happens, we need to see exactly how RX 9070 performance pans out before we can really get a perspective on pricing, anyway.

Texas judge fines New York doctor for prescribing abortion pills to Texas woman
Texas judge fines New York doctor for prescribing abortion pills to Texas woman
A Texas judge on Thursday ordered a New York doctor to pay more than $100,000 in penalties for prescribing abortion pills to a woman near Dallas, a ruling that could test “shield laws” in Democratic-controlled states where abortion is legal.
The ruling was handed down on the same day New York Gov. Kathy Hochul rejected a request from Louisiana to extradite the same physician, Dr. Maggie Carpenter, who was charged in that state with prescribing abortion pills to a pregnant minor.
Unlike Louisiana, Texas didn’t file criminal charges against Carpenter but accused her in a December lawsuit of violating state law by prescribing abortion medication via telemedicine. Texas has one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the nation.
State District Judge Bryan Gantt issued the fine against Carpenter and ordered her to pay attorney’s fees. He also issued an injunction barring Carpenter from prescribing abortion medication to Texas residents. Gantt noted in his order that despite being notified, Carpenter failed to appear in court.
Earlier, Hochul, a Democrat, said she wouldn’t honor Louisiana’s request to arrest and send Carpenter to Louisiana after she was charged with violating the southern state’s strict anti-abortion law.
“I will not be signing an extradition order that came from the governor of Louisiana,” Hochul said at a news conference in Manhattan. “Not now, not ever.”
She also said she sent out a notice to law enforcement in New York that instructed them to not cooperate with out-of-state warrants for such charges.
Carpenter is co-medical director and founder of the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine. Julie Kay, the group’s executive director, said the Texas ruling doesn’t change shield laws and that “patients can access medication abortion from licensed providers no matter where they live.”
The group also criticized Louisiana’s efforts to extradite Carpenter.
The case against Carpenter in Louisiana appears to be the first instance of criminal charges against a doctor accused of prescribing abortion pills to someone in another state.
Pills have become the most common method of abortion in the U.S. and are at the epicenter of political and legal fights over abortion access following the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Both the Texas and Louisiana cases will test New York’s so-called shield law, which gives legal protections to doctors who prescribe abortion medication to parties in conservative states where abortions are banned or otherwise limited. Other Democratic-controlled states have similar “shield laws.”
Prosecutors in West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, indicted Carpenter on charges that she violated the state’s near-total abortion ban, which allows physicians convicted of performing abortions, including one with pills, to be sentenced up to 15 years in prison.
Louisiana authorities said the girl who received the pills experienced a medical emergency and had to be transported to the hospital. The girl’s mother was also charged and has turned herself in to police.
In a videotaped statement Thursday, Republican Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said “there is only one right answer in this situation, and it is that that doctor must face extradition to Louisiana where she can stand trial and justice will be served.”
Landry’s office didn’t immediately return an emailed request for comment sent after Hochul refused the extradition request.
In the Texas case, the state’s Republican attorney general, Ken Paxton, has said the 20-year-old woman who received the pills ended up in a hospital with complications. It was only after that, the state said in its filing, that the man described as “the biological father of the unborn child” learned of the pregnancy and the abortion.

British tourist dead and three people injured in New Zealand
One British tourist has died and three other people are seriously injured after a collision between a four-seater cycle and a car in New Zealand.
Officials said the incident occurred at about 10:45am local time on Thursday in the town of Martinborough, located near Wellington on New Zealand’s North Island.
Wellington police said that authorities arrived to find all four victims with serious injuries, but that one person died before they could be airlifted to hospital.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said it was providing support to the families of the victim.
“Our team in New Zealand have provided advice on bereavement abroad after one British person died and three others were seriously injured in Martinborough,” a spokesperson told the PA news agency.
“Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
In a statement, Wellington District Road Policing Manager Brad Allen said that the serious ****** unit is conducting a scene examination and inquiries into the circumstances of the ****** are ongoing.
“Police’s thoughts, aroha [a Māori word that means love, compassion, sympathy, and empathy] and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” he said.
Images from the police investigation of the scene on local media showed the bike – a four-wheeled vehicle with an open frame and orange canvas roof – upside down beside a tree-lined road.
Indi Bikes Martinborough owner Wayde Mines told Radio New Zealand that he rushed to the scene after hearing about the incident and learned that the vehicle was one he rented to a couple he believed were tourists from the ***.
“It’s a tragedy. It’s terrible. I’ve been hiring bikes for 10 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. Not even scuffs and bumps,” Mr Mines said.

Family gathers to pay tribute to Narrikup Cricket Club life member Ross Smallwood with memorial match
Family gathers to pay tribute to Narrikup Cricket Club life member Ross Smallwood with memorial match
Narrikup Cricket Club held a fitting tribute to the late Ross Smallwood earlier this month, attended by family and friends.
Smallwood was a passionate Narrikup member, both captaining and coaching the club during a long playing career.
Described as someone who “lived and breathed cricket”, the Narrikup life member died in 2023, and his family and the community came together to honour his contribution.
The inaugural Ross Smallwood Memorial Day was held on February 1 in Narrikup, with the club’s B-grade side containing two of his sons and one grandson.
Brad and Dennis Smallwood both played in the match alongside Brad’s son Connor, while Ross’ other son Alan and daughter Julie watched on with family members from the sidelines.
The family spread Ross’ ashes on the ground at the end of the game.
Narrikup registered a thrilling win in the Albany and Districts Cricket Association B-grade fixture against Royals, with the game coming down to the final ball.
The Lions needed a six to win from the final ball but fell short as the Smallwoods played a key role in the five-run victory.

On the special day, Brad Smallwood made 47 runs from 72 ****** and Connor Smallwood added 38 as Narrikup made 8-177 batting first.
Dennis Smallwood then claimed 3-19 with the ball as the Lions made 9-172 in reply.
The two teams, along with supporters, came together after the match to share dinner and drinks.

Kremlin dismisses Ukraine’s accusation that Russia attacked Chornobyl nuclear plant
MOSCOW (Reuters) – The Kremlin on Friday dismissed as a “provocation” accusations by Ukraine that a Russian drone had damaged the containment shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant overnight.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that he did not have precise information on the alleged incident but that Russia does not attack nuclear infrastructure.

An ‘unfortunate incident’ hits latest Ubuntu 24.04 point release
An ‘unfortunate incident’ hits latest Ubuntu 24.04 point release
According to Canonical’s Utkarsh Gupta, we’ll have to wait a little longer for the next update to the current Ubuntu 24.04 release. It seems that the latest images are missing something beneficial to more recent hardware.
Originally scheduled for a February 13 release, Ubuntu 24.04.2 is a point release, a refreshed release that includes all of the latest updates, bug fixes and upgrades since the original Ubuntu 24.04 image was released. If you are using Ubuntu 24.04, then updating and upgrading your software packages will keep your install up to date. Point releases are more useful for those installing to a new machine, and not wanting to spend too long downloading updates, or for those with a slower internet connection.
Gupta reports that “Due to an unfortunate incident, it appears that some 24.04.2 images built this week did not include the HWE kernel. To be consistent across all images, we’ve decided to respin the images and delay the Noble 24.04.2 by a week.
The new release date for 24.04.2 will be 20th February 2025.”
In light of the issue, Gupta states that the there will be a “a proper retrospective to prevent this from happening in the future.”
So what is HWE kernel? Hardware Enablement is essentially a means for non-rolling release Linux distros to “catch up” with the latest hardware via an updated kernel. It has been almost a year since Ubuntu 24.04 was released, and in that time there has been a plethora of new CPUs and other PC hardware components.
So right now the team are rebuilding the ISO images with the correct kernel for HWE. This also means that they images will need to be retested before the February 20 release date.

Ubuntu 24.04 is the latest LTS (Long Term Support Release) of the popular Debian based Linux distro, and it has been plagued by delays. Codenamed “Noble Numbat”, Ubuntu 24.04 first point update, 24.04.1 suffered a two week delay back in August 2024 due to a number of “high-impact upgrade bugs”. Earlier in the release cycle, Noble Numbat’s Beta release was delayed due to malicious code in the XZ compression tools. It seems that the Noble Numbat is unable to catch a break.
If you can’t wait, then Ubuntu 24.04.1 is the current point release and it will be upgradeable to match 24.04.2 via the OS package management tools.

Despite Controversies, Assassin’s Creed Shadows Pre-orders Are “tracking solidly” in Line With the “second most successful entry of the franchise”
Despite Controversies, Assassin’s Creed Shadows Pre-orders Are “tracking solidly” in Line With the “second most successful entry of the franchise”
The gaming community has been no stranger to the controversies surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows. From its divisive choice of protagonist to concerns about rigid gameplay mechanics, many players were convinced this would be another misstep for Ubisoft.
Players are excited about the game’s release. | Image Credit: Ubisoft
However, after multiple delays and reassuring statements from the developers, it seems Shadows is proving the doubters wrong. Ubisoft’s recently released third-quarter 2024-25 sales report confirmed that Shadows is performing well in terms of pre-orders.
Ubisoft’s report proves Assassin’s Creed Shadows is winning over fans
The game has been revamped. | Image Credit: Ubisoft
While skepticism remains regarding Shadows’ gameplay and narrative, Ubisoft has pulled out all the stops to deliver a polished experience. The game builds upon the core strengths of the franchise while incorporating fresh new elements to enhance engagement.
A major highlight is the introduction of a dual-protagonist system. While some fans are still divided over the inclusion of Yasuke, the system offers two distinct playstyles, each with an important role in the story.
However, insider previews have been largely positive, suggesting that this feature is one of the game’s standout aspects. Additionally, concerns about stealth mechanics and parkour fluidity, two staples of the franchise, have been addressed with significant improvements.
These refinements suggest that the developer stayed true to its promise of enhancing the gameplay experience. From the looks of it, Shadows could offer one of the most immersive Assassin’s Creed games to date.
Another reason for the unexpected high pre-orders is got to be the introduction of Canon Mode and Immersive Mode, which are designed to cater to both casual players and hardcore fans.
Strong pre-order performance despite controversies
The developer has reported the game is doing great on pre-orders. | Image Credit: Ubisoft
Although Ubisoft has not disclosed exact pre-order numbers, the company has confirmed in its third-quarter 2024-25 Sales report that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is performing on par with Odyssey, a game that was a commercial success.
Pre-orders for the game are tracking solidly, in line with those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the second most successful entry of the franchise.
This indicates that any controversies surrounding the game have had little to no impact on its overall demand. Instead, it looks like the delays have worked in its favor, allowing players to learn more about the game.
So, if there’s one lesson to be learned from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s that controversy can be mitigated if developers put in the effort to deliver a solid game. Ubisoft did not back down from its most contentious decision: the inclusion of protagonist Yasuke.
Instead, the studio focused on improving the overall gameplay experience. By doing that and introducing various new mechanics, expanding the map, and refining core gameplay elements, the developers have turned skepticism into curiosity.
Even those who were initially hesitant about the game are now showing interest, eager to see how the title delivers on its promises. This shift in perception proves that while controversy may stir debate, a well-crafted game can ultimately win players over.
That said, Ubisoft doesn’t get a free pass. The multiple delays suggest that the game was not ready to launch earlier, yet the studio initially planned to release it anyway. This has become an industry-wide issue, not just for Ubisoft, but for many major studios.
In the end, as the March 20 release date approaches, all eyes are on the game to see if it can deliver on its potential. If the current momentum continues, the studio may just have another major hit on its hands.

Gemini just added one of ChatGPT’s best features and I’m finally excited to use it
Gemini just added one of ChatGPT’s best features and I’m finally excited to use it
Google Gemini can now remember previous conversations
The memory functionality is rolling out now to Google One AI Premium subscribers
ChatGPT has had similar functionality for a year, and it’s one of the best features of any AI chatbot
Google has just added an upgraded memory feature to Gemini that allows you to ask the AI chatbot questions based on past conversations.
The new “recall” feature is rolling out to all users who subscribe to Google One AI Premium, a paid monthly subscription that grants access to Gemini’s best features. With recall, you’ll be able to ask Gemini about previous conversations and pick up from where you left off, allowing the AI to feel more alive and aware of your history. Previously, Gemini had no recollection of previous chats, so you’d have to remind it of important details.
This huge upgrade to Google Gemini brings the AI chatbot up-to-speed with competitor ChatGPT, which has had a well-functioning memory feature for over a year now. The difference is, ChatGPT’s offering is available for free and doesn’t require a monthly subscription to access its functionality. That said, Google could be testing the recall feature before rolling it out to free Gemini users, although currently, we’ve had no information of that happening.
This new update comes off the back of Gemini’s November update that added the ability for the chatbot to remember certain things about you based on your interests and personal preferences. Unlike this new update, you’d have to go to Gemini’s “Saved Info” tab and pre-fill information for the AI to reference in conversations.
When ChatGPT introduced memory last year it completely changed the way I interacted with AI, allowing me to speak naturally with the chatbot and spot nuances where it was able to reference the past in very useful ways. Until now, I’ve been put off from using Gemini because of its lack of memory, but that’s all changed. Gemini’s recall feature is rolling out in English to Gemini One AI Premium users now (although I don’t have access yet), and Google says the update will be available for other languages in the coming weeks.
The context we needed
Gemini’s ability to remember previous conversations gives Google’s AI chatbot a whole new level of usefulness. In the past, I’ve been frustrated by Gemini’s lack of context to my prompts when I’ve asked similar questions in old chats. This was never an issue if you used one single chat with Gemini, but considering the range of models from Gemini 2.0 Flash to Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental, I can quickly rack up multiple discussions at once.
Now, Gemini will be able to take information from all of my chats and have the personal context to reference them in any way I need. Things like “Remember that time I talked to you about train travel? What was the route you told me to take?” can now be used in Gemini, and that’s a huge step in making AI more conversational and more accessible.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
Talking about accessibility, hopefully, Google plans to roll out this memory feature to free users, as I truly believe a memory function is one of the most important features for any AI chatbot. Until then, I’ll still recommend ChatGPT to my friends and family, after all, OpenAI’s model has the memory ofan elephant, and without paying for it.

Biggest snowstorm of the season is coming
Biggest snowstorm of the season is coming
CHICAGO – This winter’s biggest snowstorm is on the way today.
Fox 32 Meteorologist Mike Caplan has the forecast and what you can expect.
Multiple inches of snow
What to expect
There will be some light snow in the area this morning, which could possibly accumulate up to a half inch.
The light teaser of overnight snow left without much fanfare in its wake by about 7 a.m.
The heavier snow is still on the way especially this afternoon and evening.
There are some subtle signs of a less impactful system coming through based on recent computer models. To be clear, however, the difference between 2-4 inches and 3-5 inches isn’t that much.
The newer models have definitely cut back slightly on snow totals though.
I still think 3-4 inches will dominate the landscape but any 6-inch totals will be few and far between.
RELATED: Chicago area schools to close, shift to E-learning ahead of snowstorm
Due to lake-enhancement, the risk of a ******* total is favored over in north suburban Lake County, Illinois.
This evening’s commute will take place with snow coming down at a good clip. Snow will wind down by midnight if not a bit before.
The rest of tomorrow will feature clearing skies with temperatures going nowhere.
Air travel impact
As of around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, there were slight delays at Chicago’s airports, and around 33 flight cancelations at O’Hare and 40 at Midway.
What’s next
On Friday for Valentine’s Day, temperatures will rise into the upper 20s after a very cold start in the single digits.
Snow returns during the afternoon and evening, which could complicate travel as people head out to dinner. Snow will continue intermittently through Saturday.
The early take on accumulations would be close to what we end up with today.
After Saturday’s snowfall, bitter cold temperatures arrive with highs into next week holding in the teens with lows that might get below zero away from the city in many communities.
Snowfall totals
Snowfall totals (measured at O’Hare Airport):
Today through 6 a.m.: 0.2 inches
February so far: 0.4 inches
Since Oct. 1: 10.3 inches

‘Change funding or third runway won’t happen’
‘Change funding or third runway won’t happen’
Reuters
Businesses and airlines say Heathrow is the most expensive airport in the world
Airlines and hoteliers say Heathrow’s funding model should be reformed before any investment is made in the proposed third runway.
Businesses want a fundamental review of the regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) that govern what Heathrow can charge. They say the current model makes Heathrow the most expensive airport in the world.
If changes are not made, businesses say the third runway will not happen as it will be too expensive.
The CAA said it would “carefully consider” conducting a review of Heathrow’s economic regulatory model.
A Heathrow source said that the airport management had already told airlines and the government that it would propose to look at a different, longer-term regulatory model for a third runway.
But, as with other goods that consumers buy, those who use a service or product have to pay for the cost of providing or producing it as is the case today.
Surinder Arora told BBC London the regulatory system at Heathrow encourages inefficient spending
Surinder Arora is the chair of Arora group which owns 16 hotels and lots of land around the airport. He is pro-expansion but he has his doubts it will happen.
He told BBC London that Heathrow is overcharging for many items.
For example, he says he pays 2.62p a unit for a unit of water at the Renaissance Hotel which is outside the Heathrow Airport boundary.
At his Hilton hotel next to Terminal 2, within the boundary, he pays Heathrow Airport a lot more – 23.27p a unit. That high price is passed on to his customers.
He gives other examples including three oak trees being chopped down and the airlines being charged £76,000.
A smoking shelter which he says would cost normally £20-30,000, he says cost Heathrow £1.1m.
Sources at Heathrow dispute those figures.
But he says the regulatory model allows Heathrow to charge what they want for many services, such as water, parking or construction, as they are a monopoly.
“The current monopoly at Heathrow doesn’t only vastly overcharge passengers on aviation fees but also on their parking and a variety of other services as it continues to stand out as the most expensive airport in the world by a long way,” says Mr Arora.
“We are delighted to be working with the airlines to ask the CAA to look more carefully at the regulatory issues which lead to such high prices and seize the opportunity for competition to improve Heathrow’s offer to passengers.”
Most expensive for airport charges
He told me without change the third runway would not happen.
“If it stays the same then it won’t happen,” he says.
“If you look at the last two decades they have never delivered a project on time and on budget.
“What they’re looking at spending is £62bn plus. And the current value of the airport is £20bn.
“So what they’re saying is we will increase the passenger numbers by 50% but we want you to pay three times than what the value is today. How can any business survive that?
“If they just carry on the same model, everyone else will end up paying for it.”
Nigel Wicking, chief executive of Heathrow Airline Operators Committee, says all of the costs are passed on to travellers.
“Heathrow is rapidly falling behind other major airports around the globe both in facilities and service to airline customers, while having the unenviable accolade of being the most expensive for airport charges. This cannot continue,” he says.
“The airline community want to offer travellers, to and from the ***, a great experience through Heathrow and we want growth, also avoiding the disproportionate costs we too often see by Heathrow Airport Limited.”
The government has said it will back a third runway if it can be expanded within noise, pollution and carbon limits.
This week, Heathrow Airport said it would be applying for planning permission by the summer.
The Heathrow source said it made little sense to suggest that passengers would have new runways and terminal buildings for free as they would require investments over and above current regular investment levels.
Heathrow is keen to run a transparent process and work in partnership with airlines, the regulator and ministers to put in place a model that delivers the benefits of expansion for the *** as quickly as possible – including the lower airfares that consumers can expect as a result of new capacity being unlocked.
It also pointed out as part of the settlement airlines must agree to approve of all spending and the regulator makes sure it is value for money.
Selina Chadha, group director for consumers and markets at the *** CAA, said: “We have received a submission asking us to conduct a review of Heathrow’s economic regulatory model, and we will carefully consider it as part of our commitment to effective regulation.
“We will always focus on delivering in the interests of consumers, while supporting growth, investment, and efficiency.”

Arne Slot: Liverpool boss blames emotions after Premier League Merseyside derby red card
Arne Slot: Liverpool boss blames emotions after Premier League Merseyside derby red card
Arne Slot said “emotions got the better of me” as the Liverpool head coach waits to learn his punishment after being sent off in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby.
Dutchman Slot, 46, was shown a red card after approaching referee Michael Oliver on the pitch following the full-time whistle at Goodison Park.
Everton scored a 98th-minute equaliser in a dramatic conclusion to the 2-2 draw, in which Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones were both also sent off after the game had ended.
About the incident which led to his red card, Slot said on Friday: “There is an ongoing process now and I have to respect that.”
He added: “Emotions got the better of me. If I could do that differently, if I look back I would love to do that differently, and I hope to do that differently next time.”
As it stands, Slot will be on the touchline for Sunday’s Premier League match against Wolves at Anfield (14:00 GMT) while the Football Association reviews Oliver’s report and decides whether it will take further action.
The Premier League initially reported on its website that Slot would be banned for two matches “for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language” – but that was later deleted. It is understood human error was to blame for the erroneous post.
Liverpool were adamant that James Tarkowski’s late leveller, which was checked by the video assistant referee (VAR), should have been ruled out for a shove on defender Ibrahima Konate in the build-up.
But Slot, who was unable to speak to the media after Wednesday’s match because of his red card, also voiced frustration over the amount of stoppage time played, after five minutes were initially added.
“I think what happened was that the extra five minutes ended up being eight. It happened a lot,” said Slot, whose assistant Sipke Hulshoff was also sent off.
“I should have acted differently after the game, but it’s an emotional sport and sometimes individuals make wrong decisions and that’s definitely what I did.”
