Man City 0-2 Liverpool: Pep Guardiola sees ‘bright future’ for side
The former Barcelona and Bayern coach is not one for predicting the future but asked to respond to the post-match comments of Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who feels City will challenge strongly again next season, Guardiola said he hoped the Dutchman was right.
“I would like that,” he said. “I know what we have done as a team. It’s not enough but I recognise my team in the last two games in the Premier League – they were brilliant against both Newcastle and Liverpool.
“In Madrid it was not good enough in both games to try to go through but the pace today, the rhythm, the pressing, the solidarity for most of them playing in difficult positions, I approve it and it was really good.”
City’s eighth Premier League defeat of the campaign leaves them 20 points adrift of the champions-elect.
“How many points are they in front of Arsenal?” questioned Guardiola, when asked if City had been beaten by the title winners. “How many games have they lost?”
The answer, 11 and one, told it’s own story.
For City, the challenge is to claim a place in next season’s Champions League, for which, fifth is likely to be enough.
With 12 games remaining, they are fourth, three points behind third-placed Nottingham Forest – but with a better goal difference, but only five ahead of Fulham, who are 10th.
It is a less exhilarating task than trying to secure a record fourth successive title, or winning a historic Treble, which has been in front of them as the previous two seasons entered their final weeks, but Guardiola is convinced it will be enough motivation.
“If it doesn’t happen it’s because we were not good enough, not because we had a lack of hunger and desire,” he said.
“It’s so tight with four or five teams; Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Aston Villa and the others are so good. It will not be easy but we will try.”

Phoenix star Hurt out to rediscover shot for NBL finals
Phoenix star Hurt out to rediscover shot for NBL finals
Matt Hurt is acutely aware a standout NBL finals series could be his springboard back into the NBA as an ever-increasing number of scouts cast eyes over the *********** competition.
But South East Melbourne’s star import and leading scorer first needs to rediscover his shooting touch as he focuses on the best-of-three NBL Playoffs series against top seeds Illawarra.
“I’m just trying to find my jumper again,” Hurt told AAP ahead of Friday night’s series opener.
“I feel like I haven’t really been making a lot of outside shots in the last month or so.
“So I’m trying to lock in on my jump shot and hopefully I can knock them down against the Hawks.
“If it does (go down), I’m going to celebrate.”
Hurt, who played eight NBA games during a brief stint with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, has relished the opportunity to be the main man in his first NBL campaign.
The 24-year-old All-NBL First Team member is a top-five scorer, leading the Phoenix with 20.4 points per game, and was a top-three finalist for the league’s MVP award.
“This is probably one of the most slept-on leagues in the world,” Hurt said.
“There’s a lot of talented guys that could be playing in the NBA right now. Every team has a star player.”
Hurt is crucial to South East Melbourne’s chances of upsetting a talent-stacked Illawarra team, led by coach of the year Justin Tatum and gun imports Trey Kell and Tyler Harvey.
Kell and Harvey were both named in the All-NBL First Team alongside Hurt, while Sam Froling was picked in the Second Team.
“They’re probably one of the best benches and they have three guys that are all-NBL,” Hurt said.
“I’m just excited about playing the best of the best. It doesn’t get better than that.
“You’re playing against the best competition in the league.
“I’m excited about the match-ups and excited for the opportunity and hopefully we come out with the win.”
South East Melbourne will start as underdogs against Illawarra but have been one of the competition’s hottest teams through the back half of the season.
The Phoenix recovered from an 0-5 start to the campaign, which led to Mike Kelly’s departure as coach, and have thrived under new coach Josh King.
They have also beaten the Hawks in their last two meetings, including one on the road.
“I’m as confident as anybody in this league but the regular season doesn’t matter now,” Hurt said.
“We’ve had success against the Hawks this year but that goes out the window and we just have to take it game by game.
“We’ve got to focus on the WIN Entertainment Centre on Friday night and approach those 40 minutes like it’s a do or die game.”
South East Melbourne could be bolstered by the return of star point-guard Derrick Walton Jnr from a hamstring injury, which has sidelined him for the last six weeks.
“We had a little bit of him here and there during the season but you can’t take a guy like that away,” Hurt said.
“He’s been a champion in this league and MVP in the grand final series.
“If he does play, he’s really going to help us. I’m excited for that.”

Avoid ‘person-to-person contact’ with IRS this tax season
Avoid ‘person-to-person contact’ with IRS this tax season
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) faces a significant workforce reduction, with over 6,000 employees reportedly set to be laid off. As the 2025 tax filing season progresses, taxpayers are concerned about how these changes might affect their refunds.
Tom O’Saben, director of tax content at the National Association of Tax Professionals, joins Wealth host Brad Smith to break down the details.
“This layoff situation could, in fact, be a non-event to a lot of individual taxpayers if they, number one, commit themselves to try to avoid person-to-person contact at the IRS,” O’Saben explains.
O’Saben recommends filing returns electronically this tax season, saying, “Before you press send, be sure to review all that data and make sure it’s accurate so it’ll be in the system and process like normal.”
Additionally, he strongly encourages setting up direct deposit for refunds and taking steps to minimize the need for direct IRS contact. For those who need to contact the IRS directly, O’Saben warns of potential delays. “Patience is a virtue,” he notes, adding that taxpayers should “be prepared for long waits if you’re going to have to call.”

Here are the latest developments.
Here are the latest developments.
Germans voted for a change of leadership on Sunday, with historically reliable exit polls from a parliamentary election showing centrist conservatives in the lead and the far right in second. The results amounted to a rebuke of the nation’s left-leaning government for its handling of the economy and immigration.
That almost certainly means the country’s next chancellor will be Friedrich Merz, the leader of the Christian Democrats. But he will need at least one or two coalition partners to govern.
“We have won it,” Mr. Merz told supporters in Berlin on Sunday evening, promising to swiftly form a majority to govern the country and restore strong ******* leadership in Europe. “The outside world is not waiting for us,” he added. “And it is also not waiting for lengthy coalition talks and negotiations.”
The election, which was held seven months ahead of schedule after the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-party coalition, will now become an essential part of the European response to President Trump’s new world order. It drew what appeared to be the highest turnout in decades.
Mr. Merz has promised to crack down on migrants and slash taxes and business regulations in a bid to kick-start economic growth. He also vowed to bring stronger leadership in Europe at a moment when the new Trump administration has sowed anxiety on the continent by scrambling traditional alliances and embracing Russia.
Exit polls showed his Christian Democrats and their sister party, the Christian Social Union, winning a combined 29 percent of the vote. The far-right Alternative for Germany, known as the AfD, appeared to be in second place.
On Sunday evening, suspense ran high about the coalition that Mr. Merz might be able to assemble. Smaller parties could play a key role. Like other ******* party leaders, Mr. Merz has promised never to partner with the AfD, parts of which are classified as extremist by ******* intelligence.
Here’s what we are following:
Immigration policy: A series of deadly attacks over the past year committed by immigrants, including asylum seekers, put the issue of immigration front and center in the run-up to the election. But the assaults did not appear to have affected the outcome of Sunday’s elections.
U.S. interference: The AfD gained support by promising to deport some immigrants and seal borders, which won the endorsement of the Trump adviser Elon Musk and a form of encouragement from Vice President JD Vance. While the U.S. meddling in the campaign put off some left-leaning voters on Sunday, it was welcomed by others supporting the AfD, according to interviews at polling stations. Mr. Merz on Sunday slammed what he called the “interference from Washington” in the election by Mr. Musk and Vice President Vance, saying in a televised debate that it was no worse than interference from Moscow.
Economic crisis: Germany’s economy has not grown in five years and is suffering from an industrial competitiveness crisis. Forecasts show an economy rapidly sliding backward, stunning declines that have emerged as one of the biggest issues in the parliamentary election.
Elevating the AfD: The AfD, with its anti-immigrant and nationalist platform, has long been a pariah of ******* politics. A new band of influencers unafraid of confrontation had helped push the Alternative for Germany party to second place in pre-election polls.

2 arrested, including 12-year-old, after deadly north Lubbock shooting
Police on Sunday announced two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another injured Feb. 15 in north Lubbock.
The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Joe Angel Martinez, according to police. TAG investigators arrested Martinez in the 2900 block of East Bates at 11:30 p.m. Friday. Martinez has been booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center, charged with *******. His bond is set at $500,000.
A 12-year-old juvenile has also been taken into custody in connection to this case. The juvenile was booked into the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of Theft of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Deadly shooting in north Lubbock
The weekend’s arrests came after police on Friday released surveillance images showing suspects believed to be involved in the shooting that left 36-year-old Adam Hernandez dead and 37-year-old Larry Moreno seriously injured.
Officers were initially called about 11:20 p.m. Saturday to the 1200 block of Jarvis Street for a report of a fight in progress, according to a statement from LPD.

Shortly after, officers located Hernandez in a vehicle in the 1000 block of North Avenue Q Drive with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, Moreno, was also shot. He was taken to University Medical Center via ambulance with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Hernandez’s death led to the investigation being turned over to the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit.
Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears, there was a verbal altercation inside a business in the 1200 block of Jarvis Street, involving the victims and other individuals, which spilled outside of thebusiness and led to multiple physical altercations.
Initial information indicates at some point during the physical altercations happening outside, Hernandez and Moreno got in an SUV and drove through the parking lot. It appears when the vehicle stopped, a suspect or suspects, began shooting, striking both men inside the vehicle.
At that point, Moreno drove a short distance before stopping in front of a separate business in the 1000 block of North Avenue Q Drive, where he was met by patrol officers.
Other information about the shooting, including how the arrested man and youth were linked to the violence, was not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about this case, is asked to call Crime Line at 806-741-1000. Callers could be eligible for a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect or suspects involved. Callers can remain anonymous.

****** says Israel’s claim on hostages’ handover ceremony is pretext to evade its obligations
DUBAI (Reuters) – ****** on Sunday condemned Israel’s decision to postpone the release of ************ prisoners and detainees, saying its claim that the hostages’ handover ceremonies are “humiliating” was false and a pretext to evade Israel’s obligations under the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Netanyahu’s decision reflects a deliberate attempt to disrupt the agreement, represents a clear violation of its terms, and shows the occupation’s lack of reliability in implementing its obligations,” Ezzat El Rashq, a member of the ****** political bureau, said in a statement.
Israel said earlier it was delaying the release of hundreds of ************ prisoners it had planned to free the day before until ****** met its conditions, underscoring the fragility of the Gaza ceasefire accord.

Liverpool win at Manchester City is result that seals the title
Liverpool win at Manchester City is result that seals the title
Slot, understandably, was cautious.
“In every other league, having a lead like would be very comfortable, but not in this league,” he said. “There is a challenge in every game. We even saw Plymouth Argyle challenging us in the FA Cup.
“The fans can sing what they want but we know how hard we have to work. Someone asked me after we drew at Aston Villa whether we were having a dip. I never believed that and I’m not going to say anything now.”
Seemingly insurmountable leads have been surrendered at the top of the Premier League in the past, but very few as big as the one Liverpool now hold. Not at this stage of the season.
The only one bearing any comparison was during the 1997-98 campaign, when Manchester United were 11 points clear of Arsenal on 2 March and were reeled in.
However, they had already lost five games at that point and had proved they were far from infallible. Liverpool have that Forest defeat as the only blemish on their league record.
And the wonderful Arsenal side under Arsene Wenger that chased United down were a very different proposition to the current crop under Mikel Arteta, who are destined to be the title race’s nearly men again.
Guardiola declined the opportunity to crown Liverpool champions, but effectively answered the question with two more questions: “How many points are they away from Arsenal? How many games have they lost?”
Say no more.
He made a point of warmly congratulating Slot at the final whistle before seeking out every Liverpool player for a handshake. Guardiola knows a title-winning side when he sees it, and he was looking at one right here.
Speaking to BBC Sport, former England goalkeeper and Match of the Day pundit Joe Hart said “there’s no way back” for Arsenal in the title race.
“They can do what they want, they can win every game from here, but I still don’t think it will be enough,” he added.

Here’s Why You Don’t Need a ‘Perfect’ Job
Here’s Why You Don’t Need a ‘Perfect’ Job
AFF-USA / Shutterstock.com
Post graduation, many young people may have a romanticized view of finding their “dream job” straight out of college. While it’s always amazing to have a job that not only pays the bills but that you love, billionaire entrepreneur and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban says that you “don’t need a perfect job.”
Try It: I’m a Self-Made Millionaire: Here’s How I Use ChatGPT To Make a Lot of Money
Learn More: 8 Common Mistakes Retirees Make With Their Social Security Checks
In a December post on the social media platform Bluesky, Cuban explained more.
“I tell every kid that asks, that you paid money to learn,” Cuban said. “Now it’s time to get paid to learn. You don’t need a perfect job. You need to be the best as you can at your job.”
He went on to say that people like to do jobs they’re good at, but everyone is always a “free agent.”
It’s clear that young adults are taking his advice seriously, leading the charge and shaping the modern workforce.
Younger generations comprise of the majority share of the workforce, and this trend is expected to continue through the end of the decade. According to the World Economic Forum, by 2034, 80% of the workforce in advanced economies will comprise of Millennials, Gen Z and the first Gen Alphas to become adults.
Discover More: The Best Types of Retirement Accounts for Gen Z To Open in 2025
Gen Z in particular is driving workplace change through their shared values. These include embracing the side hustle, fostering community, believing in access over ownership, maintaining a global mindset and valuing authenticity.
This generation also learns new technologies fast and tends to draw on large amounts of information and data in a way that was unthinkable to prior generations.
CNBC highlighted that it’s crucial for candidates to focus on developing soft skills such as curiosity and an eagerness to learn, according to CEOs from Kickstarter’s Everette Taylor and Amazon’s Andy Jassy.
However, while it’s always smart to keep your eye on new job opportunities that might provide a higher salary and career advancement, the way you interpret being a “free agent” might be problematic.
For example, if you always have one foot out the door, you may struggle to perform well at your current job and grow relationships. However, if it’s been years since you’ve been promoted at your current job, you haven’t received more than an annual cost of living adjustment or you don’t feel like you have any more room to grow at your current organization, making the decision to move on to new opportunities might be the smarter choice.

******* election: Conservatives projected to win
******* election: Conservatives projected to win
The conservative CDU/CSU party is projected to be the largest party in the next ******* federal parliament – or Bundestag – with 28.5% of the vote.
The conservative leader Friedrich Merz, who is now in pole position to become Germany’s next chancellor, hailed a “terrific election campaign” and said there was no time to waste in forming a government.
The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is expected to become the second largest party in the country, with a record 20.5% of the vote.
Millions voted in Germany for a new federal government after the three-party coalition fell apart at the end of last year, prompting a snap election.
CDU/CSU is a centre-right Christian democratic and conservative political alliance of two political parties in Germany – the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria.
Merz, who has led the CDU/CSU parliamentary group since 2022, was greeted with cheers when he stepped onto the stage at the CDU headquarters in Berlin following Sunday’s exit poll results.
He was joined by head of the CSU Markus Söder, who thanked the voters for their trust and proclaimed: “We have won the Bundestag election.”
Söder said it had been “a historic election night” for the party and that the CDU and the CSU “prepared very well for this election”.
Merz added that he was “aware of the responsibility that now lies ahead” of him.
While the CDU/CSU is set to be the largest party in the next ******* parliament, the AfD is expected to come in second with around 20% of the vote.
The party’s co-chairwoman Alice Weidel claimed it a “historic result” for the party as it is up by more than nine points on the 2021 election.
Her co-chair Tino Chrupalla said: “We have received the confidence of the voters and that should be something everybody else accepts as well.”
The exit polls showed Social Democrats (SPD) as coming in third with 16-16.5% of the vote.
******* Chancellor Olaf Scholz, leader of the SPD, said the election results were “bitter” for his party and a “defeat”.
Speaking to supporters in Berlin, Scholz said “we have to acknowledge we have lost the election”.
He congratulated Merz on his projected win.
Exit polls are based on anonymous and voluntary surveys carried out at 560 (out of 80,000) polling stations.
They tend to be relatively accurate but official results are expected early on Monday.

WREG News 3 Memphis reports that Ashley Cross, 37, was arrested at a Memphis Walmart for attempting to purchase $137.34 worth of goods — including jeans, a t-shirt, boots, and 11 packs of ramen noodles — for $1 each by scanning a barcode meant for a watch battery.
Don’t miss
Charged with criminal trespass and theft of merchandise less than $1,000, Cross was to appear in court Feb 19. Meanwhile, the Walmart chain has barred her from all its stores nationwide, issuing this statement:
“We value our customers and associates and want them to have a pleasant shopping experience. Though rare, there are instances when someone is no longer welcome in our stores.”
Sheer scale of self-checkout theft
This incident is an example of an escalating trend of retail theft. In 2023, U.S. retailers reported 93% more shoplifting incidents than in 2019, and 90% more monetary losses as a result of that theft.
When it comes to self-checkout theft, more than 20 million Americans have shoplifted in this way and 41% plan to do it again, according to Capital One.
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon told CNBC that theft is increasing across the Walmart chain, and noted that it could contribute to higher prices or store closures.

How retailers are fighting back
To combat self-checkout theft, Walmart has begun using ‘invisible barcodes’ that scanners can capture on items even if the codes are invisible to the naked eye.
As an added protection, staff are checking receipts against items in shoppers’ bags. As more shoplifters use fake receipts, Walmart employees are scanning receipts as customers leave the store. This has outraged some.
“Instead of having all these people standing at the doors, why don’t you have people work at the register that could actually ring up all the items & then you won’t have to worry about people not payin” one wrote.
“Just shop at Target, they don’t treat you like a criminal after being forced to check yourself out,” said another.
Some stores are making it harder to steal high-value, oft-stolen items by locking them up, but this can backfire as shoppers choose to make purchases elsewhere rather than waiting for an employee to unlock an item. Despite retailers’ best efforts, shoplifters continue to find new ways to exploit self-checkout systems, turning theft prevention into a constant game of cat and mouse.
As technology evolves and security measures tighten, one thing is clear: Retailers will have to find new ways to stay one step ahead.
