  3. Teenager’s Luton school shooting plan ‘extremely shocking’ Teenager’s Luton school shooting plan ‘extremely shocking’ Alex Pope BBC News, Bedfordshire Reporting fromLuton Crown CourtFacebook Nicholas Prosper pleaded guilty to the ******* of three members of his own family at a court hearing on Monday A teenager’s plan to carry out a school shooting after killing three members of his family was “extremely shocking, distressing and upsetting”, a council leader said. Nicholas Prosper shot dead his mother Juliana Falcon, 48, his brother Kyle, 16, and 13-year-old sister Giselle at their home in Luton in September. The 19-year-old intended to carry out an attack at his former primary school – and a loaded shotgun with more than 30 cartridges was found in a bush after his arrest, police said. Hazel Simmons, the Labour leader of Luton Council, said the authority “does not underestimate the emotional difficulty this news will have on children, staff, parents and carers across our school community”. Bedfordshire Police said it had learned Prosper had planned to commit a shooting at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in the town. He was “apprehended before he could cause any further harm”, it added. Contributed Juliana Falcon, 48, Kyle Prosper, 16, and Giselle Prosper, 13, were found dead at their home in Luton in September Prosper pleaded guilty to three counts of ******* at Luton Crown Court on Monday. As well as admitting the killings, he pleaded guilty to purchasing or acquiring a shotgun without a certificate, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing an article with a blade or point. He is due to be sentenced on 5 March. Ms Simmons said: “The revelation that the perpetrator had plans to cause further harm in one of our schools is extremely shocking, distressing and upsetting. “Our schools have robust systems in place to keep children safe and security is constantly reviewed and monitored.” She said the council had recently asked schools to conduct a security review following a fatal knife attack at a school in Sheffield – but said all of them would be asked to conduct a further review. “We know this case will be unsettling for parents which is why the council is working with schools to put support in place in our schools to anyone who needs it,” she added. PA Media Flowers and cards were left at the entrance to the Leabank block of flats shortly after the murders Maureen Murphy, the headteacher of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, said it was “devastated to learn of the tragic death of our former students Kyle and Giselle and their mother Julianna”. “We were very shocked to learn that St Joseph’s was an intended target in this incident,” she added. “However we would like to reassure our parents and carers that there is no threat to the school.” She said there were robust systems in place to keep children safe which includes “having clear procedures in place such as lockdown and safety processes which are regularly practised at the school”. “We are proud to be a multi-cultural Catholic community where the safety of children will always be our number one priority and this will never be compromised,” she added. A range of support had been put in place for “any parent or pupil who needs it at this time.” Emma Baugh/BBC Police said they found the victims in “such awful circumstances” at the Leabank block Officers were called to the family flat in Leabank, off Wauluds Bank Drive, at about 05:30 BST on 13 September after a concerned neighbour said they heard a disturbance. An inquest at Bedford Coroner’s Court in October was told that all three of the victims died from gunshot wounds to the head. Speaking previously Det Supt Rob Hall, from the region’s major crime unit, said officers who arrived at the scene were “met with such awful circumstances”. Prosper was arrested shortly after and the firearm was found in the bushes during a search of the surrounding area. 4. Fremantle Dockers coach Justin Longmuir and CEO Simon Garlick explain move from fixed contract to employee Fremantle Dockers coach Justin Longmuir and CEO Simon Garlick explain move from fixed contract to employee Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir says he feels more secure in his job after changing from a fixed-term contract to an ongoing employment agreement despite it having no long-term guarantees. Longmuir’s contract with Fremantle will finish at the end of this season and, just as he did last year, he negotiated his own new deal with the club before round one. Longmuir will become a full-time staff member at the end of the 2025 season. Under the deal, both he and the club have committed to a notice ******* if either party decides to end the agreement. Chief executive Simon Garlick said Longmuir’s future would still be decided by his performance. Now entering his sixth season as Fremantle coach, Longmuir said the new arrangement made him feel more secure despite not having a clear tenure. Camera IconFremantle coach Justin Longmuir. Credit: Ian Munro/The West *********** “My last contract had an end date. This has no end date,” he said. “It still has the same clauses in it and termination clauses but it doesn’t have an end date. So for me, it gives me more security which ticks one of the boxes. “I feel like it’s behind me. I feel like I have something in concrete and I can move forward.” The Dockers have only played finals once since Longmuir took over from Ross Lyon at the start of the 2020 season. They were in third spot with four games remaining last season but lost those matches and fell to 10th spot. Camera IconFremantle coach Justin Longmuir and CEO Simon Garlick. Credit: Ian Munro/The West *********** Fremantle have set a high bar for this season, openly talking about their desire to win the premiership and referencing their Strategic Plan which included winning a flag by 2025. Garlick said the new arrangement included performance bonuses if Longmuir is successful. But if the team doesn’t perform to expectations, Longmuir’s job will be under pressure. He would receive a short-term payout if sacked. Garlick said that payout would be the same figure he’d have received by signing a longer contract. “The vast majority of fixed-term contracts in place have a notice ******* that the club and coach have agreed. In that sense there is no difference,” Garlick said. Camera IconJustin Longmuir has signed a new deal at Fremantle. Credit: Ian Munro/The West *********** “Regardless of the contract type, whether it is a fixed term agreement or an ongoing employment arrangement that we have settled on, we are in a performance based industry. Clearly performance, along with a whole host of factors, is a critical element of determining decisions that are made in any football club. “From that perspective, we understand we are always going to be measured on our performance. That’s not just Justin- it’s the entire club. “There’s no difference to that if we were sitting here announcing Justin has a three-year fixed term agreement extension or the ongoing employment agreement we have arrived on.” The Dockers aren’t the first club to sign a coach to this type of agreement. But other clubs haven’t enjoyed success under these arrangements. Camera IconFremantle CEO Simon Garlick. Credit: Ian Munro/The West *********** Garlick admitted the decision was unique but said it was a display of confidence in Longmuir’s ability and that it suits both parties. “Our belief in Justin is incredibly strong,” he said. “Not just in Justin but in the coaching group that he and Joe have worked hard to assemble. To an incredibly professional and capable football staff group and importantly a playing cohort that has been assembled over an extended ******* that we think has an opportunity to enter into a ******* of contention and success. “We believe this contract change is one that better reflects the contemporary AFL landscape and is more suitable to our club, our coach and our football department at this time. We also understand it is a bit different.” Camera IconFremantle coach Justin Longmuir Credit: Ian Munro/The West *********** The Dockers will now prepare to play Melbourne in Mandurah on Sunday. Longmuir said small forward Sam Switkowski was recovering well from the concussion he suffered against the Indigenous All Stars and is on track to play. He said the game would be vital for their readiness to play Geelong in round one. “This week is a full dress rehearsal for us. It is round zero for us. Geelong play Brisbane in round zero in preparation for round one. We play Melbourne in round zero in preparation for round one,” he said. 5. Surprise Spiral Shape Revealed in The Darkness Surrounding The Solar System Surprise Spiral Shape Revealed in The Darkness Surrounding The Solar System The edge of the Solar System is a strange place, full of oddities we’ve only just begun to probe. But perhaps the oddest of all is the Oort Cloud, a vast field of icy debris extending out to 100,000 times the distance between Earth and the Sun. We have a rough idea of the size and shape of this field, but the fine particulars elude our understanding. Now, a new computational study has revealed a surprising structure – a spiral generated by the tidal forces exerted by the Milky Way galaxy itself. The finding, in press at The Astrophysical Journal, is currently available on preprint server arXiv. “As the galactic tide acts to decouple bodies from the scattered disk it creates a spiral structure in physical space that is roughly 15,000 astronomical units in length,” writes a team led by astronomer David Nesvorný of the Southwest Research Institute in the US. “The spiral is long-lived and persists in the inner Oort Cloud to the present time.” The outer Solar System is a frontier that is difficult to probe. We know there are lots of small, icy objects out there in the Kuiper Belt out past the orbit of Neptune; and, beyond that, from 1,000 astronomical units to 100,000 astronomical units, spins the Oort Cloud, the far reaches of the Sun’s gravitational influence. It’s from here that the Solar System’s long-******* comets originate, bumped from their orbits and sent careening toward the Sun, releasing streams of gas as their ices sublime. We know, also, that the Oort Cloud is roughly divided into two parts. The outer portion is huge, a spherical cloud that extends out from around 10,000 astronomical units from the Sun. Interior to that is the inner Oort Cloud. According to simulations, this portion is more of a torus, or donut shape, extending from 1,000 to 10,000 astronomical units. Most of the long-******* comets in the Solar System come from the outer Oort Cloud. The inner region is much more stable. It’s closer to the Sun, which means it’s more strongly bound by the Sun’s gravity; and it’s not as prone to disruption by the passing stars that stir up the outer cloud and knock the icy objects out of their normal orbits. Because of this long-term stability, the inner Oort Cloud is usually modeled as a more-or-less flat disk aligned with the ecliptic plane of the Solar System. Nesvorný and his colleagues have been studying the inner Oort Cloud for years. In their latest research, they used NASA’s Pleiades Supercomputer to simulate the debris field, applying the gravitational effects of the Sun, as well as the external gravitational effects exerted by the Milky Way galaxy itself, and the orbits of the comets. They simulated the 4.6 billion-year lifespan of the Solar System, from the formation of the Sun from a dense knot of material in a huge molecular cloud of gas and dust. As the Sun formed, the leftover material in that cloud formed the planets, asteroids, comets, and everything else in the Solar System, including the outer Oort Cloud. But the simulations suggest that the inner Oort Cloud is not a nice, even, toroidal disk at all. Rather, it mirrors the shape of the Milky Way galaxy, with a spiral structure, and a warp to the disk similar to the warp in the galactic disk. The entire disk measures around 15,000 astronomical units in diameter – and it’s inclined 30 degrees from the ecliptic plane. The two-armed spiral shape of the inner Oort Cloud suggested by supercomputer simulations. (Nesvorný et al., arXiv, 2025) From a distance, it would appear as a spiral, with two twisted arms. This structure, according to the simulations, emerged early in the Solar System’s history, within the first few hundred years after the formation of the Solar System. It’s also remarkably stable – it persists to this day. And, even when stars pass closely by the Solar System, it remains intact, which means that it’s not related to the gravitational perturbations induced by passing stars. To confirm what they were looking at, the researchers went back over the previous studies. All their previous work suggested that the inner Oort Cloud has a spiral shape that persisted through various parameter tweaks to their simulations. Directly observing, and therefore confirming, this spiral is going to be very difficult, if it’s possible at all. But it fits observation data, and its presence in previous studies that weren’t even looking for it is interesting. Unraveling the mysteries of the Oort Cloud means peering back into the Solar System’s distant past, and observing the influences at play over the course of its formation and evolution. Sometimes, the difficult thing is worth doing. The team’s research will be published in The Astrophysical Journal, and is available on arXiv. 6. Activision Has Been Forced To Admit It uses AI To Generate Assets in Call of Duty Activision Has Been Forced To Admit It uses AI To Generate Assets in Call of Duty Call of Duty players have accused Activision’s studios of using generative AI to produce in-game assets, namely calling cards, stickers, and some skins for at least a few months. For instance, a festive-themed calling card showing a ‘zombified’ Santa Claus bore clear traces of gen-AI usage – the character in question had too many fingers. Now, the proof is in the open, and it’s all thanks to a recent Steam policy update that requires developers to clarify when generative AI has been used in the production of any game on the storefront. In a recent update to Steam’s policies, developers must disclose the use of any generative AI in a sub-section listed under any game’s core description. This comes as a result of new rules published by the United States Copyright Office, which has decreed that any AI-gen content cannot be classified under copyright laws. On the Steam page for ****** Ops 6, it’s written: Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in-game assets. Call of Duty is one of the most ambitious development efforts in modern gaming, with Activision’s studios boasting thousands of developers working concurrently across multiple projects. It rankled with many fans that these teams would need to ‘resort to’ using generative AI to produce in-game assets. In most cases, the content produced has been branded ‘AI slop’ by followers of the legendary FPS franchise. This isn’t the first time Activision has leaned on AI to support the Call of Duty series, though. In 2023, it was revealed that AI and ML-based tools would be used to moderate in-game voice and text chat. This news wasn’t taken as harshly as the revelation that the team is using gen-AI to supplement the work of artists, though. What’s the worst gen-AI asset you’ve seen created in Call of Duty? 8. Confusion over Musk demand that federal workers justify their jobs Confusion over Musk demand that federal workers justify their jobs US government workers faced widespread confusion on Monday following conflicting advice over compliance with an Elon Musk-backed order to list their last week’s work in an email or face termination. Just 48 hours after an email asking “what did you do last week?” was sent, the office behind it clarified responses were voluntary, leaving agencies to decide their approach. But as this new guidance was shared with federal agencies, President Donald Trump weighed in that workers who did not comply with Mr Musk’s demand would be fired or “sort of semi-fired”. And later on Monday evening, Mr Musk reinforced the ultimatum, granting workers a final chance to respond. The mail from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on Saturday, instructed recipients to reply with five examples of what they did over the past seven days, without revealing any classified information. The recipients were asked to respond by end of Monday. Mr Musk, who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), said that failure to respond would be taken as a resignation. The comments fuelled backlash, with federal worker unions and activist groups filing a lawsuit in California to halt the email mandate. Key agencies, including the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services (HHS), Justice, and the FBI—now led by Trump appointees—instructed employees to ignore the directive. This led to widespread uncertainty, with some workers receiving contradictory messages over the weekend. The result was widespread bafflement, as federal workers faced uncertainty over their employment. Many also expressed confusion at the competing guidance they had been given by their respective agencies. “They’re succeeding in driving us insane,” one employee who works under HHS told the BBC, and asked not to be named for fear of retaliation. On Monday afternoon, OPM held a call with the heads of human resources at federal agencies and said it was up to each entity to determine how they want to handle the directive employees received Saturday, according to CBS News, the BBC’s US partner. The same afternoon, President Trump told reporters at the White House that Mr Musk’s demand was a “genius” move. “There was a lot of genius in sending it,” he said. “We’re trying to find out if people are working and so we’re sending a letter to people, please tell us what you did last week. If people don’t respond, it’s very possible that there is no such person or they’re not working.” “And then if you don’t answer like you’re sort of semi-fired or you’re fired because a lot of people are not answering because they don’t even exist,” Trump said. Mr Musk maintained he was acting on instructions from President Donald Trump. “Subject to the discretion of the President, they will be given another chance,” he wrote on X, apparently referring to workers who did not respond to his demand by the end of Monday. “Failure to respond a second time will result in termination.” “The email request was utterly trivial, as the standard for passing the test was to type some words and press send!” he said in another post. “Yet so many failed even that inane test, urged on in some cases by their managers. 10. Arizona woman accused of threatening co-workers with plan to attack the workplace: Court documents Arizona woman accused of threatening co-workers with plan to attack the workplace: Court documents The Brief 20-year-old Keelin Paige Pascoe is accused of making a terrorist threat and using electronic communication to threaten. Pascoe allegedly sent text messages to a co-worker, where she reportedly outlined “her plans to carry out a mass casualty event at her workplace.” PHOENIX – Court documents state a Cave Creek woman is accused of threats and terrorism-related offenses over an alleged plot to attack her workplace. What we know Investigators say the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Keelin Paige Pascoe, allegedly sent text messages to a co-worker, where Pascoe outlined “her plans to carry out a mass casualty event at her workplace,” described as a Walmart located in the area of Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway in Cave Creek. Per the documents, when Pascoe had a conversation with one of her co-workers on Feb. 20, she “described a recurring dream she’s been having where she comes to work at Walmart, shoots and kills several co-workers, and then shoots and kills herself.” “[Pascoe] then began describing a plan of how she could carry out the dream in real life; [Pascoe] would find someone who looks like her, kill her and assume the decedent’s identity, then come kill her co-workers posing as the decedent,” investigators wrote. According to officials, Pascoe said she had a list of 40 named people who “she wanted to kill or see dead,” and Pascoe’s co-worker recognized each name of the last as a Walmart co-worker. “[Pascoe] added; she has [March 2, 2025] off from work, and she could ‘do it then,’” a portion of the court document read. “When the complainant tried to be dismissive about [Pascoe’s] plan, [Pascoe] seemed irritated and said ‘[no one] believes me’ and also added that she was excited for the plan because ‘that’s how they’ll know me.'” Police said Pascoe’s alleged comments were later to Walmart management, which “caused concern for the safety of Walmart employees and customers.” Dig deeper Officials said Pascoe was later interviewed by detectives, and during the interview, she said she had been having the dream described above for about five months, and went on to explain that “the co-workers she kills in her dream are co-workers she has had real life conflicts with at Walmart.” “According to [Pascoe], after the first occurrence of the dream, she wrote a list of names of people from Walmart and her other job,” read a portion of the court documents. “When asked what the list was for, [Pascoe] said they were people she wanted dead.” Walmart has released a brief statement on the alleged incident, which reads: “The safety of our associates and customers is always a top priority. We’re thankful for the partnership with police and are cooperating with their investigation.” What’s next Court documents state that Pascoe is accused of making a terrorist threat, which is a felony. She is also accused of using electronic communication to threaten, which is a misdemeanor. “Interviews with Walmart managerial staff and law enforcement database searches reveal [Pascoe] has a documented history of suicide attempts and self-harm, as recent as 02/07/2025,” read a portion of court documents. A judge has set a bond of $50,000 for Pascoe. Should she make bond, court documents state she will be required to submit herself to electronic monitoring, and won’t be allowed to leave her home except during certain hours. A preliminary hearing for Pascoe is scheduled for March 3. Help is available. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988. Reporting mistakes helps us improve the experience.Generate Key Takeaways On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart accidentally sliced his hand open while smashing a coffee mug on his desk. The gesture was made in anger towards the billions of dollars of federally funded pharmaceutical subsidies ignored by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency. As an example of the U.S. government’s history of glaring inefficiencies, Stewart pulled a clip of former President Joe Biden celebrating negotiations to lower the price of 10 widely used pharmaceutical drugs. An enraged Stewart, who was pretending to “work for DOGE” with a coffee mug and calculator, deemed that hardly a reason to celebrate. More from Variety “The companies we subsidize with billions of dollars are allowing us the privilege to negotiate the price of 10 of their drugs,” Stewart said with phony excitement. “And ten is all of them, right? It would be embarrassing if it was a small drop in the bucket, and that the American people didn’t expect that we should negotiate for all their ******** drugs, because we have already paid for them with our subsidies! It is ******** insane!” Stewart then spiked the mug on his desk, shattering it to pieces. He quickly realized he cut himself and moved his hand out of sight before joking, “I will be going to the hospital soon.” Before the incident, Stewart played accountant and tallied up all the wasted government dollars DOGE could be saving instead of targeting the jobs of “200,000” federal employees. “How about we just take $3 billion in subsidies we give to oil and gas companies that turn billions in profits,” Stewart said. “How long did that take? Oh, wait! How about we just close down the carried interest loophole on hedge funds? That’s $1.3 billion a year. Or how about we stop the $2 trillion dollars we’ve given to defense contractors to build a fighter jet that blows, when everyone knows the next war is going to be fought with drones and blockchains, whatever that is! 15. MacBook Air M4 Said to Launch Soon in 13-Inch and 15-Inch Display Options MacBook Air M4 Said to Launch Soon in 13-Inch and 15-Inch Display Options Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its next MacBook Air model, which is expected to arrive with the company’s M4 chip. It is expected to succeed the MacBook Air M3 that was introduced in March 2024, and is also expected to arrive in two display sizes, along with support for Apple Intelligence features. Apple launched a new MacBook Pro with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips last October, alongside new Mac Mini and iMac models that were also equipped with its M4 chipset. MacBook Air M4 Launch Timeline (Expected) Citing sources, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes that Apple will launch its latest MacBook Air models with an M4 chip in March. The company is expected to refresh the 13-inch and 15-inch variants of its MacBook Air M3 with a new chip, and is readying its staff for the launch of the new model, according to the latest edition of the journalist’s Power On newsletter. Details of the purported MacBook Air M4 were leaked by Gurman last October, and the biggest upgrade on the entry-level MacBook model is expected to be the more powerful M4 processor. The 13-inch and 15-inch models are reportedly codenamed J713 and J715. Aside from the upgrade to the chipset, it’s currently unclear what upgrades Apple will bring to the MacBook Air M4 models. The company could equip the laptops with a Thunderbolt 4 port, which would be an upgrade over the Thunderbolt 3 port on its predecessor. While the MacBook Air M4 is expected to feature the same Liquid Retina display, it’s worth noting that Apple could introduce a variant with a nano-texture finish for a more consistent viewing experience, like the MacBook Pro (M4, 2024) model. If the timeline for the MacBook Air M4 launch is accurate, only two more Mac computers will need to be refreshed with the company’s latest chipset. The company is reportedly working on a new Mac Studio (codenamed J575), which could be launched between March and June. There’s no word on whether Apple plans to upgrade the Mac Pro with an M4 Pro or M4 Max chip, but we might hear more about these devices after the launch of the purported MacBook Air M4, which is expected to take place in March. 17. Goldman Says US Households to Pay $170 If Oil Tariffs Imposed Goldman Says US Households to Pay $170 If Oil Tariffs Imposed (Bloomberg) — A potential US tariff on oil imports would hand consumers a $22 billion bill as higher costs get passed on, while doing little to stimulate domestic crude production, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Most Read from Bloomberg The possible levy — which has been floated by the Trump administration, including on flows from Canada and Mexico — would mean a cost equivalent to $170 per household, analysts including Callum Bruce said in a note. Global commodity markets including oil have been rattled since Donald Trump was sworn in last month, as the president presses home an aggressive series of moves to shake up the global trading system. In addition to the actions threatened against imports from Mexico and Canada, the administration has taken aim at shipments from China and vowed charges on steel and aluminum, as well as so-called reciprocal levies on all countries. “We find that a 10% US tariff on crude oil would not significantly boost US production because of a mismatch between light oil the US produces and heavy oil many US refiners demand,” the analysts said in the note, which was dated Feb. 21. Meanwhile, average retail gasoline prices may increase by 7 cents a gallon if a 10% tariff is imposed, they said. Most Read from Bloomberg Businessweek ©2025 Bloomberg L.P. 20. Why an upside-down American flag was hung in Yosemite National Park Why an upside-down American flag was hung in Yosemite National Park February is one of the busiest times of the year at Yosemite National Park thanks to “firefall,” a natural phenomenon that causes a glowing ribbon of water to look like molten lava cascading down El Capitan’s Horsetail Fall. Travelers come from around the world to witness the event at the granite monolith, famed for its nearly vertical walls, some booking entry tickets and reserving parking spots a year in advance. But this year’s visitors witnessed more than firefall on February 22. They also saw an upside-down American flag, which Yosemite employees reportedly hung over the side of El Capitan to protest the recent downsizing that took place as part of the Trump administration’s cost-cutting initiatives. Traditionally, hanging the American flag upside down symbolizes a distress call. Gavin Carpenter, a maintenance mechanic with Yosemite, spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday and said he supplied the flag and helped hang it. “We’re bringing attention to what’s happening to the parks, which are every American’s properties. It’s super important we take care of them, and we’re losing people here, and it’s not sustainable if we want to keep the parks open.” In 2023, Yosemite was the sixth busiest national park in the country, with 3.89 million visitors. Located in California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range, the park is a habitat for the endangered California condor and home to giant sequoias, the largest trees in the world. Park officials nationwide have raised concerns about how the abrupt federal firings will impact the National Park Service. One of those affected workers, Iowa park ranger Brian Gibbs, said he found out about his recent termination when he was locked out of his email. He wrote a public Facebook post about his feelings of being “absolutely heartbroken and completely devastated,” which has been shared more than 200,000 times. While Big Studios like EA and Activision Have Fumbled With World War 2 Shooters, A Minecraft Mod Shows Them How It’s Done While Big Studios like EA and Activision Have Fumbled With World War 2 Shooters, A Minecraft Mod Shows Them How It’s Done Minecraft always allowed players to explore their creative instincts and create unique worlds within the game. There is so much that you can do in it. Curseforge has developed a new mod for Minecraft called BlockFront, which allows you to enter into an action-packed WW2 setting with elaborate map designs and fun gun gameplay. The World War 11 mod in Minecraft looks extremely realistic. Image Credit: Mojang via CurseForge This mod offers a better experience than some of the recent games from big studios, focused on making a game around the same setting. Unlike EA and Activision, Curseforge’s mod breathes fresh air into a combat scenario revolving around World War II. You can now shoot guns in Minecraft Minecraft offers players a chance to set their creativity loose. Image Credit: Mojang BlockFront offers players a chance to experience what it felt like fighting in the Second World War. The mod includes various weapons, all belonging to that bygone era, maps, multiplayer matchmaking, and a Discord server to keep the community connected. Players can also customize their load-outs to suit their playstyles. There are a lot of weapons available that offer a chance to get creative with how you would like to approach the game. The mod features replicas of real-world locations, including Stalingrad, Normandy, and Berlin. It is truly a creative feat that the modders have managed to achieve with this. Even the gameplay appears to be quite functional and very smooth. Comment byu/AjCyrillDy from discussion inMinecraft Comment byu/AjCyrillDy from discussion inMinecraft To play this mod, players would need to install the CurseForge app first. Then finish the installation and setup, click to install the mod and you are good to go. It is extremely easy to set it up. Mods like these prove that Minecraft’s world is truly capable of making anything the human mind can think of. There are enough resources in the game to make a game within a game, which is extremely cool. Minecraft thrives due to its touch of realism. Players are worried Mojang will take the mod down Minecraft’s player community is always coming up with unique things in the game. Image Credit: Mojang Although developers cannot directly take down a mod, it can still make it pretty hard for players across the world to access it. However, something like this is unlikely to happen anytime soon, and the mod is slowly growing in popularity. Players might soon be able to play Doom within Minecraft. Mojang could if it wanted to, make an argument stating that this mod goes against the game’s guidelines that forbid promoting violence in the game. However, these are some worst-case scenarios and there is a high chance that this mod thrives. Minecraft players who also love a little bit of gunplay should try this mod out and experience the gameplay themselves. You can even play multiplayer with your friends and immerse yourself further into the bygone era of World War II. 23. CAITLIN BASSETT: Tarryn Thomas playing for Swan Districts in the WAFL will not sit well with female players CAITLIN BASSETT: Tarryn Thomas playing for Swan Districts in the WAFL will not sit well with female players The opportunity to be paid to play sport is something special. It’s a reward to be chosen as part of an elite team and particularly in one of the biggest sports in the country — like the AFL — getting the opportunity to be on a list is a privilege. The news that disgraced North Melbourne midfielder Tarryn Thomas has been offered a trial with Perth WAFL club Swan Districts has whipped footy fans into a frenzy. The 24-year-old was sacked by the Kangaroos after repeated breaches of conduct involving women and has been exiled by the AFL for the season. While he can’t play for any state league club associated with an AFL team, he has been granted permission to play for a standalone VFL, WAFL or SANFL club as he attempts to revive his career. Swan Districts are well known as redemption club and have taken a chance with troubled former AFL players in the past including Andrew Krakouer and former Richmond Tiger Sydney Stack. Krakouer got his career back on track and won a Sandover Medal while helping the club win a premiership and was picked up by Collingwood where he finished out his AFL career, having previously spent time behind bars. Stack was signed by the Swans in February last year and played two pre-season games for their reserves and one with the senior team before moving on. VFL club Northern Bullants decided to pass on Thomas with the proposal for him to join the club failing to get past the board due to backlash they received on social media and the threat of losing sponsors. Swans giving Thomas a lifeline seems like an unnecessary risk to take — he isn’t a young up-and-coming Swans player or even WA talent for that matter — the only reason would be to improve their chances at a flag. This is a player who has been accused of serious and confronting threats of violence towards women, arrested and charged for phone harassment and breaching a court order and threatening to distribute intimate images. As a female player at a WAFL club I would not be comfortable sharing facilities with a serial offender and would love to know what the WAFLW and the younger women who play in the Rogers Cup at Swan Districts think about the situation. Will the club consult the players, club and members before making a final decision? According to the AFL, Thomas has completed a comprehensive education and behavioural change program and demonstrated a changed behaviour over a ******* of time. But he has made no public statements indicating he is remorseful. Before Thomas can play a game, WA Football has to sign off on his registration and with four female commissioners on the board I don’t think it will pass the pub test. Thomas would make Swan Districts a better football side for whatever ******* he is here. But they are running a great risk of alienating sponsors, members and players. That’s a risk I wouldn’t be taking. Source link #CAITLIN #BASSETT #Tarryn #Thomas #playing #Swan #Districts #WAFL #sit #female #players Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  24. Marvel Rivals Firing Its Entire Team Maybe James Gunn’s Chance at His DC Equivalent of ‘Rivals’ Marvel Rivals Firing Its Entire Team Maybe James Gunn’s Chance at His DC Equivalent of ‘Rivals’ Marvel Rivals has proven that hero shooters aren’t quite dead yet. But the biggest reason for its success isn’t its gameplay but rather the excellent execution of the Marvel IP. So is DC going to compete with this? DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn is certainly considering the possibility of a similar project from DC. Can DC compete with Marvel Rivals? | Image Credit: NetEase Games It might also be the perfect time for DC to start cooking something up because NetEase recently laid off a portion of its Seattle-based team and it’d be pretty cool if DC picked them up. Fans are wary after what happened with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and with NetEase’s success, the ball is firmly in DC’s court. Is DC going to make a competitor to Marvel Rivals? CEO James Gunn is definitely considering it. | Image Credit: Rocksteady James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, has confirmed that the company is open to exploring a hero shooter akin to Marvel Rivals (via ComicBook). While no game is officially in development, Gunn stated that he’s interested in hearing pitches from developers. The thing is, we know DC can’t copy what Marvel has done one-on-one because that makes no sense. Players would have no reason to play the new game. James Gunn says they’re open to making a DC equivalent of #MarvelRivals pic.twitter.com/sudEQgOCE0 — Culture Crave (@CultureCrave) February 24, 2025 Gunn mentioned discussions with WB studios like Rocksteady and NetherRealm, known for Batman: Arkham and Injustice, respectively. Neither has been known to make live service titles and Rocksteady’s own Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a big flop last year. So how would DC even go about making a competitor? Well, the answer lies with Marvel itself. Marvel Rivals launched at the end of 2024 and immediately became one of the biggest games in the world, even surpassing Overwatch 2 in popularity. It did that because of how stagnant the hero shooter genre was. Overwatch 2 had a hold on the genre but players were increasingly disappointed with Blizzard’s handling of the game. And so, NetEase swooped in, and the rest is history. Marvel Rivals Game Director and his entire Seattle based team has been laid off by NetEase according to LinkedIn posts Following one of the most successful game launches we have seen in a long time… pic.twitter.com/x6bJMI7nKG — Jake Lucky (@JakeSucky) February 18, 2025 They better hire this same team — NERO (@ok_nero) February 25, 2025 But what surprised us all is that right after this genre-defining success, NetEase laid off key members of the game‘s Seattle-based development team, including game director Thaddeus Sasser. There was a lot of buzz over that. But the point is, If DC is serious about making a hero shooter, what could be better than hiring the very team that just proved they know how to make one work? It’ll be fine as long as DC keeps it original in the way that NetEase did The gameplay doesn’t have to be a 10, just the execution. | Image Credit: NetEase Games Despite Gunn’s openness to a Marvel Rivals-style game, DC has yet to announce any concrete plans. Even if a project were greenlit today, it would likely take years before it saw the light of day. So if DC wants to cook something up, we’ll enjoy Marvel Rivals in the meantime. We just got The Thing and Human Torch with the Season 1.5 update and it’s a blast. One thing that people bring up about Marvel Rivals‘ success is that a lot of it is owed to the IP itself, and it’s completely true. Sure NetEase made an excellent hero shooter that competes with the likes of Overwatch 2, but what really sells it is the fact that gamers can play as some of their favorite heroes and villains from the extensive library of the Marvel Comics and Cinematic Universe. So if IP is a big part of the success, then we know there won’t be a shortage of it for a DC project. The recently laid-off members of the Marvel Rivals development team may not have done all the work that brought the game to success, but at least they know what they’re doing. And bringing them onto whatever project DC plans might be the first step to success. 25. Former Ohio State linebacker accepts plea deal in domestic violence case Former Ohio State linebacker accepts plea deal in domestic violence case COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A former Ohio State linebacker facing multiple assault charges accepted a plea offer Monday, nearly two years after his initial arrest. According to court records, Darron Lee waived a trial by jury and accepted a plea offer to dismiss a domestic violence charge and amend an assault charge to attempted assault, making it a misdemeanor. Lee then pleaded guilty to attempted assault and was issued two years of non-reporting community control and a fine of $500. Lee was also ordered to be in compliance of a no contact order with the victims. A previous report can be seen in the player above. Adam Coy’s attorneys argue motion for new trial in ******* of Andre Hill Earlier Monday morning, Lee was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and sentenced to one day in jail after 179 days of the 180 day-sentence were suspended. Additionally, a Franklin County Municipal Court judge issued Lee 12 months of community control. Lee was charged in April 2023 with assault charges on two separate incidents with two different women, the first occurring in Oct. 2022. On April 4, officers arrested Lee after a woman accused him of assaulting her the night before, and another person on separate occasions. The victim told police that when the woman approached Lee in a bedroom and asked him to leave, he became upset. Lee then threw her against the wall and then to the ground, according to the criminal complaint document. (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun, File) While she was on the ground, Lee punched the victim repeatedly around eight or nine times, then pulled her hair while over top of her. Officers stated that two other women who were at the residence came upstairs to the victim’s aid. During that incident, police learned that on Oct. 17, 2022, Lee allegedly assaulted a second victim and threatened to kill her. Lee reportedly began choking her and threw a cell phone off a wall, which struck the victim and made her ear bleed. He then allegedly followed the victim and picked her up by the neck and threw her to the ground. The woman was able to break free and leave the residence. A warrant was issued for Lee’s arrest when he failed to appear in court on June 6, 2023, the initial trial date. Attorneys stated that Lee, a Florida resident, was unable to travel to Columbus due to medical reasons. Lee was a two-year starting linebacker at Ohio State and was part of the Buckeyes’ national championship winning team in 2014. He was drafted by the New York Jets in 2016, won a Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and spent the following season with the Buffalo Bills. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
