  1. Balatro’s Fallout Crossover Might Make Me Finally Play The Smash-Hit Indie Balatro’s Fallout Crossover Might Make Me Finally Play The Smash-Hit Indie Balatro is one of those games that passed me by. Not because it’s bad, but because I have no idea how to play card games. It was a couple of months ago that it was revealed that Balatro had sold a whopping 3.5 million copies, which is a stellar performance for a game pieced together by a solo developer. Recently, it was announced that Balatro will be landing on the Game Pass subscription service. To usher in this addition to the library of games, the ‘Friends of Jimbo (Pack 4)’ reveal was dropped, showcasing a series of cosmetic collaborations including Assassin’s Creed, Slay the Princess, and most importantly, Fallout. Time to Learn If you know me, you’ll know I’m dizzy for the Fallout franchise. I’m a die-hard fan with thousands of hours invested across the series. When I first played Fallout 3 in 2008, it introduced me to a veritable feast of post-apocalyptic potential that became a burning adoration for the genre and setting. Balatro, on the other hand, never took my fancy. It was released just over a year ago to an overwhelmingly positive reception, but I never saw the attraction simply because I know flat-nothing about card games. To herald the arrival of Balatro on the Game Pass service, a trailer was released showcasing the Friends of Jimbo (Pack 4) DLC, a cosmetic crossover featuring iconic imagery from some of the biggest and boldest franchises ever made. To cut a long story short, there’s a cosmetic card upgrade featuring Fallout’s Vault Boy character, which you can see in the below trailer. And just like that, my curiosity is piqued and I have some connection to the chart-topping indie game that has won stacks of awards. It helps that I’m also a huge Assassin’s Creed fan, and having Ezio Auditore on a card face has me eager to secure the pack and find out what all the fuss is about. Recently, Balatro’s solo developer won a PEGI ratings appeal, months after the game was classified as a game for adults because of the ‘promotion of gambling’. The developer, LocalThunk, also teased the impending ‘1.1’ update for the game, which is being kept under wraps until it’s the right time to reveal what’s coming. Do you rate Balatro as one of the best indie games to emerge in years? In 2024, it was the Insider Gaming community’s Indie Game of the Year. 2. Chevron reorganizes business structure, reshuffles leadership Chevron reorganizes business structure, reshuffles leadership (Reuters) -Chevron said on Monday it would reorganize some of its business structures and reshuffle the leadership team, the latest move by the U.S. energy major to simplify its operations. The company has said it would lay off up to 20% of its global workforce by the end of 2026, as it navigates cost overruns and a business that it says has become overcomplicated. Its $53 billion acquisition of Hess has been stalled due to an arbitration battle with larger rival Exxon Mobil. “Our new organizational structure and leadership appointments are designed to improve our operational efficiency and position Chevron for sustained growth,” CEO Mike Wirth said in a statement. The company’s oil, products and gas organization will consist of two separate segments — upstream being the first and downstream, midstream and chemicals (DM&C) as the second. Clay Neff, who is currently Chevron’s president of international exploration and production, will oversee upstream effective July 1. The company said Andy Walz will continue to lead the DM&C organization. Chevron Vice Chairman Mark Nelson will continue to oversee the overall oil, products and gas organization. The oil and gas producer’s technical center will also be reorganized and insider Ryder Booth will take the helm as the new unit’s vice president on July 1. Chevron, which moved its headquarters from San Ramon, California, to Houston and replaced several long-standing managers, is targeting up to $3 billion in cost cuts through 2026 from leveraging technology, asset sales and changing how and where work is performed. Last August, it announced a new hub in India which would become its largest tech center outside the U.S. (Reporting by Vallari Srivastava in Bengaluru and Sheila Dang in Houston; Editing by Vijay Kishore and Sriraj Kalluvila) Source link #Chevron #reorganizes #business #structure #reshuffles #leadership Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  3. SpaceX Falcon 9 Completes 450th Mission, Deploys 23 Starlink Satellites SpaceX Falcon 9 Completes 450th Mission, Deploys 23 Starlink Satellites A batch of 23 Starlink satellites was launched by SpaceX aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on February 21. The mission, which took place at 10:19 a.m. EST, marked a significant milestone for the company, as it was the 450th flight of a Falcon-series rocket. Clear weather conditions allowed for an unobstructed view as the spacecraft ascended into orbit. The booster assigned to the mission, B1076, executed a successful landing on the autonomous droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. Starlink Expansion Continues According to reports, the upper stage of Falcon 9 proceeded with the deployment of the 23 satellites into low-Earth orbit following stage separation. The latest additions bring the total number of Starlink satellites in operation to approximately 7,000. The satellite network, developed by SpaceX, is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access across various regions, including underserved and remote locations. Milestones and Future Missions This mission represents the 21st SpaceX launch of 2025, which includes one flight of the Starship vehicle from the Texas-based Starbase facility. It also marks the 16th Starlink-specific launch of the year. Four additional Starlink missions are expected to take place before the end of February, with Starship’s next test flight tentatively planned for no earlier than February 26. Booster Reusability and Performance The booster used for this mission, B1076, has now completed 21 flights, with twelve of them dedicated to Starlink deployments. SpaceX continues its strategy of reusability to lower costs and enhance operational efficiency. Reports indicate that the successful recovery of the first stage enables its potential use in future missions, supporting the company’s rapid launch cadence. 5. Low Credit Spreads, High Risk? What Investors Should Know Low Credit Spreads, High Risk? What Investors Should Know Myself and others have highlighted how European Equities have been breaking out to new all-time highs on the back of bullish factors such as cheap valuations, monetary tailwinds, improving (geo)politics, reforms, and so-on. But not many have noted the similar bull market underway in European credit markets. Much like what I observed with US credit spreads, European High Yield Credit Spreads have been steadily narrowing and making new lows. The point of contrast would be that Europe hasn’t quite revisited the pre-08 lows like the US has, but it sure is on a trajectory to get there — and is very clearly already at the bottom end of the range. On face value this is a positive sign, it means credit investors are confident on the state of things, and are happy to take on credit risk. At the same time it indicates that the cost of debt capital for borrowers is low and that debt capital is likely flowing well. This can have a reinforcing feedback loop to improving equity market sentiment and overall macro conditions —easier financial conditions boosts growth and sentiment, which lifts risk assets, which eases financial conditions, and so-on… (but) It can also indicate a degree of complacency and overconfidence. Spreads rarely stay at these levels for long. Add to that lingering questions on the macro outlook, elevated geopolitical uncertainty despite the peace-seeking overtures of the Trump admin, and even the other tail of resurgence risk rattling rates markets and it all adds up to one of those worried-smile faces, where yes things seem to be on an improving path, but to every upside there seems to be an equal and opposite downside. One practical note I can say with certainty is that the risk premium is much better for equities than that of credit, and equities are likely going to be less impacted if we get an inflation resurgence and surge in rates. So on balance, I would say definitely take note of this development (especially if spreads bottom out and turn up [not yet]), and stay bullish on European equities. Key point: European credit spreads are making new lows (and equities new highs). Bonus Chart: Emerging Market Credit Spreads It’s not just the USA and Europe, EM corporate credit spreads are pushing lower as a warm blanket of complacency is wrapped around markets. The upside is that it likely does reflect an element of improved fundamentals given the relative calm in macro and markets and improving data out of China. Furthermore, again — this can become self-reinforcing in that it reflects easier financial conditions, supporting growth and risk-taking, which in turn imparts a cyclical improvement in fundamentals. But the problem is it represents a very low-risk premium for investors should things deteriorate. On my analysis, I’d prefer EM sovereign bonds (ex-China), and EM equities where the risk premium is much larger and the upside potential asymmetric (but in the right direction whereas corporate bond returns are also potentially asymmetric, but in the wrong direction: i.e. limited upside, but large potential downside e.g. in the event of a credit default cycle or rates shock). Overall though it’s a key development and one that’s probably slipped under the radar for most people.. 6. A major US bank refused this San Francisco woman’s $1,500 refund for fraudulent withdrawals — here’s why A major US bank refused this San Francisco woman’s $1,500 refund for fraudulent withdrawals — here’s why A major US bank refused this San Francisco woman’s $1,500 refund for fraudulent withdrawals — here’s the bank behind it and why they denied her request A woman in California says someone pretending to be her withdrew money from her Chase account from a bank teller — without having a bank card or even knowing her PIN. Despite the clear fraud, her bank initially refused to return her money, according to ABC News 7. The local branch alerted the woman, who asked to be identified by her only first name, Katrina, to the unauthorized withdrawals. Still, when she filed a claim, corporate denied her request for reimbursement, stating she had either authorized the transactions or benefited from them. “It’s been absolutely ludicrous,” Katrina told ABC 7 News. She says she’s never even been to the Orinda Chase branch where the thief withdrew her funds. Still, the scammer managed to withdraw money twice before finally raising suspicion with a third attempt. In December, a woman using a fake driver’s license managed to make two separate withdrawals from Katrina’s Chase account, totaling $1,500. The fraudster didn’t use a debit card or PIN — just a convincing ID that fooled the tellers. The bank became suspicious when the thief attempted a third withdrawal and asked for additional verification through multi-factor authentication. “They said, ‘OK, I need you to confirm your identity with a code that we’ll send to your cell phone.’ She said, ‘Oh, OK. I forgot my phone in the car. Let me go get it.’ And that’s when she never returned,” Katrina told reporters. The bank then immediately called Katrina to confirm that she had been at the bank branch. When she told them she hadn’t, the branch informed her of the fraud. Katrina quickly filed a police report and opened a claim with Chase’s fraud department. She expected the bank to resolve the issue quickly but was instead met with resistance from Chase. Read more: Rich, young Americans are ditching the stormy stock market — here are the alternative assets they’re banking on instead Despite the evidence, Chase initially denied Katrina’s claim. In a letter, the bank stated that she had either authorized the transactions or had somehow benefited from them. Story Continues “I was gobsmacked,” Katrina said. “Even the branch — the Chase branch’s word — was still not enough,” she told ABC 7 News. Frustrated and out of options, she contacted 7 On Your Side, a consumer advocacy news team. Within 24 hours of their inquiry, Chase reversed course and refunded Katrina’s account. But she had already spent over $200 on an identity theft protection subscription to safeguard herself in the future. Meanwhile, Orinda police are investigating the case, and Chase has provided video footage of the suspect. Chase says it has ID checks in place to prevent this type of fraud but declined to share the measures they use. Many banks have strict fraud policies that require consumers to prove they are the victims. This can be challenging — how do you prove you weren’t somewhere and didn’t do something? Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA), banks are required to refund fraudulent transactions on debit cards and online transfers when there was no loss or theft of an access device — depending on when the event is reported. Under the EFTA, customers must report the fraud within 60 days of receiving their bank statement, according to the Federal Reserve. If too much time has passed, the bank may deny the claim. Some banks may have shorter timelines for reporting suspected fraud. But fraud that occurs in person at a bank branch may be treated differently. Because the thief presented a form of ID, Chase may have determined the teller had a reasonable basis to believe the withdrawal was legitimate. Banks also increasingly rely on “customer responsibility” clauses in their terms and conditions, which can lead to disputes over who is liable for fraudulent transactions. If a customer shares their banking credentials, falls for a scam or unknowingly allows someone access to their account, the bank may claim the loss is a result of the customer’s actions. Some banks also deny claims if they suspect “friendly fraud” — where the customer later regrets a legitimate transaction or disputes a charge knowingly made by a family member or acquaintance. As for Katrina, she hopes Chase will improve its security measures to prevent others from falling victim to similar scams. “I can’t sing high enough praises for 7 On Your Side,” Katrina shared. “Chase definitely needs to bolster their security. I want to say do better.” This article provides information only and should not be construed as advice. It is provided without warranty of any kind. 8. Lions watch: Finn Russell to start at fly-half? Maro Itoje for captain? Lions watch: Finn Russell to start at fly-half? Maro Itoje for captain? The Calcutta Cup – a fixture Scotland fly-half Finn Russell has lit up in recent years – was seen as a perfect opportunity for the two-time Lion to restate his credentials as the starting fly-half. Russell, especially in the opening half, looked back to his old self as he helped pick apart England’s defence with his wide passing game. However, Gregor Townsend’s side failed to capitalise on their dominance and came up short 16-15, with Russell missing all three kicks he had at goal – including a last-gasp match-winning conversion from the corner. Despite kicking at 38% in this year’s Six Nations, former Scotland captain John Barclay is not concerned and still backs 32-year-old Russell to start. “I still think Finn Russell [is in pole position],” Barclay told Rugby Union Weekly. “I am not bothered about his kicking. His kicking last year and across the season for Bath has been great. He is a good kicker. “It was the best he has played in the championship. Look at how he got Scotland’s backline moving with his passing game. And his kicking game was good too.” England fly-half Fin Smith backed up his player-of-the-match performance in round two against Scotland with another assured display. The Northampton Saint is 10 years younger than Russell and stepped up to kick a pressure penalty from halfway to continue his bid for a spot as one of Farrell’s fly-halves. Ireland fly-half Sam Prendergast, who recently turned 22, is the least experienced contender and won only his sixth cap in Cardiff. Ireland remain on course for a Grand Slam after Prendergast, who kicked 17 points, helped guide them through a tricky spell when Garry Ringrose was given a 20-minute red card in the 34th minute. A particular standout moment came when he spiralled a 50-22 over the head of Wales full-back Blair Murray. The execution was “utter filth”, according to Barclay. Having backed up his player-of-the-match performance against Scotland, Warburton believes Prendergast has edged into top spot. “Without putting too much pressure on him, I see a world-class top-level 10,” Warburton told Rugby Union Weekly. “You just watch him play and you think ‘he is Test level’. There are still imperfections, but what he is displaying at 22, with how calm and composed he is, is that level.” Source link #Lions #watch #Finn #Russell #start #flyhalf #Maro #Itoje #captain Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  10. How Colorado Trump voters feel about the president’s tumultuous new term How Colorado Trump voters feel about the president’s tumultuous new term Take a ride with David Hayes around his Colorado ranch and you learn right away he is a feisty, funny guy. “I tried farming for a while,” he told a visitor. “I would rather get run over by a bison.” There is just one bison remaining on the Spomer Ranch, down from 60 or 70 a few years ago. “I’m retiring,” Hayes said. “Just about 70 and my body isn’t working too good anymore.” Trouble is the last bison’s name. And Hayes was quick to add that trouble is what he sees in Washington one month into President Donald Trump’s second act. “I really don’t like him as a person,” Hayes said. “I think he is arrogant. Kind of a jerk.” Yes, Hayes believes the federal workforce can be trimmed considerably. But to him, the current approach seems more impulsive than coherent. “I’m not sure (Trump) thought through the process,” Hayes said. “It’s kind of like, ‘Let’s just get it over with and dump everybody.’” Plus, he doesn’t trust or believe Elon Musk and bristles when he hears the billionaire and his team are trying to gain access to sensitive tax and Social Security records. “I don’t like it,” Hayes said. “I don’t think they should be in our business.” Hayes rolled his eyes as he recounted Trump and Musk alleging there are numerous people allegedly between the ages of 100 and 150 claiming Social Security. “Can you believe any of that crap?” he said as we drove across the 100-acre ranch. “You can’t substantiate it. You can’t believe it. So that is a trust issue. … (Trump) is doing all this stuff and I don’t think he understands the ramifications of what he is doing.” It is a damning take from a blue-collar three-time Trump voter who lives in a rural area where Democrats have struggled in recent years. But Democrats should hold the celebration. We ask Hayes what he would choose if he could redo his 2024 vote now that he has watched Trump’s tumultuous first month. “I would still do Trump,” he said. That was a recurring theme as we visited Colorado’s 8th Congressional District as part of our “All Over the Map” project. The district stretches from the northern Denver suburbs to just south of the Wyoming border. It is 40% Hispanic, evenly divided politically and will be critical as House Republicans defend their tiny majority in the 2026 midterms. The president’s political standing is almost always the best midterm barometer, and on this first visit we focused on Trump voters. “I love it,” Esmeralda Ramirez-Ray said of Trump’s frenetic first month. “That is what I voted for.” She wholeheartedly backed Musk’s march through federal agencies. “I don’t know why it surprises anybody,” she said, noting Musk’s big role in the final weeks of the campaign. “You haven’t been paying attention if that is a surprise.” Esmeralda Ramirez-Ray talks with John King in Greeley, Colorado. – CNN Asked where she gets her news, Ramirez-Ray listed Musk’s X social media platform and the Epoch Times, a far-right publication known for its support of Trump and its history of criticizing vaccines and advancing conspiracy theories. “I don’t watch Fox,” she said. “I don’t watch CNN. I don’t watch ABC, NBC, any of that. … It’s really hard for me to get news I can trust or that I can believe in.” Ramirez-Ray was raised as a Democrat and said she and her parents faced backlash from other Latinos when they warmed to Trump back in 2016. “They couldn’t believe someone of Hispanic origin would support somebody that was being labeled a racist. We didn’t believe that he was, and we campaigned, and we voted for him.” Now, she sees a first month of keeping promises. She does air one disagreement with Trump — wishing he would change his tone when it comes to immigration. “I was raised as a migrant worker working in the fields,” Ramirez-Ray said in an interview at her office in Greeley, 65 miles north of Denver. “Those are the people out there picking their crops. So even though I support Trump, I don’t believe he is the end-all, be-all savior of humanity. Nobody is.” Ramirez-Ray works as an interpreter for court defendants who don’t understand English, and many of her clients are undocumented immigrants who work in meatpacking plants, construction, farming or other jobs. She agrees that some undocumented immigrants are violent, but said she wishes Trump would understand “the majority of my clients who are here are good, honest people trying to make a living, and there should be a legal pathway for them to remain here.” Todd Waufle founded Satire Brewing in 2018. It is in Thornton, a community 12 miles north of Denver, that Waufle describes as “50-50” politically and where one bipartisan complaint is the fast-moving suburban sprawl. “The day after the election, yeah, it was 50-50,” Waufle said. “Half the people were crying in their beers, really upset. I mean really emotional. … Then the other half are, like, high-fiving and cheering and jovial.” Count Waufle among the jovial, then and now. “I like him going full-speed,” Waufle said of Trump. “Let’s get things done. Let’s find out if the policies work, if they don’t work. … I’m all for him getting in action.” Satire Brewing owner Todd Waufle talks with John King in Thornton, Colorado. – CNN Like Ramirez-Ray, Waufle has no issues with Musk and his work, at least not yet. “He can make things happen, too,” Waufle said. “You got two guys in there playing, working.” Not that Waufle loves everything in the Trump agenda. Business at the brewery is solid, and he constantly debates expanding. During a tour, Waufle shows us new fermentation tanks not yet in use and an open space where he wants to install canning machines so he can increase production and sales. But that is on hold for now because of Trump’s tariffs on aluminum. “If you fly enough, you understand,” he said of navigating the early days of the new Trump term. “Buckle your seat belt. Turbulence ahead.” But he voiced confidence that things will ultimately settle to a point that he feels comfortable with his expansion plan. Waufle’s approach is a trademark of many Trump voters: accept the things that make them cringe to get the things they believe Trump is best equipped to deliver, beginning with a better economy and a stronger border. “He’s a little pompous, arrogant,” Waufle said. “It’s not necessarily my style. But it works for him. … Trump is going to say what he is going to say and, yes, some of it is going to be exaggerated, some is not going to be true. But at the end of the day, I think you got to sift through all that. Is he going to get things done? Is he going to get the country moving the right way? Is the border going to get taken care of? Are we going to cut costs?” Austin Jenkins cast his November ballot hoping lower taxes and less regulation would help his family and small businesses, which include a ********* bar and the Greeley Hatchet House — an axe-throwing venue. “I think he is a little outrageous and wild at times,” Jenkins, 28, said of Trump. “I’m not necessarily a Trump guy. I’m just much more conservative in my opinions.’ His wife’s family are Democrats, and the conversation with Jenkins is rich with evidence that his politics are shifting as he starts a family and his businesses take root in Greeley’s diverse community. “They have taught me a lot and it has softened my heart a lot, too,” Jenkins said. He worries that Trump’s tariffs will add costs and stress to small businesses already dealing with high costs and high interest rates. Hatchet House owner Austin Jenkins shows John King how to throw an axe in Greeley, Colorado. – CNN And Jenkins sees fear in a Latino community he describes as vital to his businesses and the area. “We’ve got friends and family that we care about a lot and, like, they’re nervous they are going to drop their kids off at school and somebody’s going to grab them.” Jenkins is all for a stronger border and a more organized immigration process. But he wishes Trump would accept the reality of communities such as Greeley that have significant numbers of undocumented workers. “The hardest-working people I’ve ever met,” Jenkins said. “It’s unfortunate what’s happening. I think there is a better way to go about it. I don’t know if it is necessarily just force them out.” The blizzard of executive actions also is unsettling. “I thought there’s supposed to be checks and balances,” Jenkins said. Trump won’t be on the 2026 ballot, of course, and we are just a month into his new term. But if concerns like those Jenkins has about immigration, Musk and presidential power continue to grow, battleground Republicans such as freshman GOP Rep. Gabe Evans here could find a more difficult midterm climate. Evans won by a little more than 2,000 votes, and the district is already a top Democratic target. For now, though, what comes up most among voters here is the same issue that dominated the 2024 race. “The big thing here is the cost of living is getting crazy here in Colorado,” Jenkins said. “It seems like everybody is kind of drowning a little bit.” Hayes, the soon-to-retire bison rancher, jokes that “eggs are worth more than diamonds” now. He also is trying to solve another cost-of-living issue that makes him cranky — not a good thing for any incumbent politician. “I have one drug that went from $4.60 in December to $45 in January,” Hayes said. “Nobody knew why. It’s those kinds of things that kind of tick a guy off a little bit.” For more CNN news and newsletters create an account at CNN.com Source link #Colorado #Trump #voters #feel #presidents #tumultuous #term Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Anna Williams Announced For Tekken 8 as Title Sells 3 Million Copies Anna Williams Announced For Tekken 8 as Title Sells 3 Million Copies It has just been revealed that Tekken 8 has already sold three million copies, passing the milestone inside a one-year window. The successful fighting title is also getting a new DLC fighter in the form of Anna Williams, a classic character who has been a stalwart figure in the franchise since the original Tekken in 1994. Bandai Namco released an exhilarating gameplay trailer to showcase the imminent arrival of Anna Williams, who will join the game on March 31 for pass owners and April 3 for everyone else. Blast From The Past It hasn’t been all that long since Anna Williams was last in a Tekken title. She surfaced in Tekken 7 as a DLC character and was in the starting line-up in Tekken 6. Her impending release in Tekken 8 was heralded by a three-minute gameplay trailer published recently by Bandai Namco: Anna Williams will appear at the end of March wielding her trusty rocket launcher, but in a switch-up to her moveset, she’ll be wielding that bazooka as a melee weapon as well as a ranged accessory. The trailer above showcases a classic clash between Anna and Nina Williams. These sisters have been an iconic duo for years, but Nina has arguably enjoyed a little more time in the limelight. In 2005, she headlined a game on PlayStation 2 named Death by Degrees. If you could complete the game, you’d unlock Anna as a playable skin, which represents her assuming the role of second fiddle. Despite never being a Tekken fan, I somehow managed to find and play Death by Degrees when it came out twenty years ago, and for some reason, it has stuck with me all this time. CBS News Philadelphia has reached out to the Eagles and the White House for comment on this story but has not yet heard back. Rumors of the Eagles declining an invitation to the White House swirled on social media over the weekend after a weeks-old post from The Sun gained traction online. The last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018, President Trump canceled their visit over a national anthem dispute. While President Trump became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, he has remained silent about the Eagles’ winning the game. Here’s what to know about the Birds potentially heading to the White House after winning the second Super Bowl in franchise history. What happened after the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018? After the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in 2018, Philadelphia did not visit the White House. Mr. Trump canceled the visit a day before over a national anthem dispute. Mr. Trump said some members of the 2018 team “disagree with their president because he insists that they proudly stand for the national anthem, hand on heart.” The president claimed the Eagles wanted to send a “smaller delegation” to the White House. Sources told CBS News Philadelphia that “less than a handful” of players signed up to meet with the president. According to the White House, the Eagles informed them on May 31 that 81 people — players, coaches, management and personnel — would visit the executive mansion. Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders accused the Eagles of pulling a “political stunt” by rescheduling the visit because many of the players wouldn’t attend. The White House claimed Mr. Trump would be overseas during the proposed dates. In response to the cancellation of the White House visit, the Eagles released a statement without mentioning the president. “It has been incredibly thrilling to celebrate our first Super Bowl championship. Watching the entire Eagles community come together has been an inspiration,” the Eagles’ statement read. “We are truly grateful for all of the support we have received, and we are looking forward to continuing our preparations for the 2018 season.” Nick Foles #9 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates with the Vince Lombardi Trophy after defeating the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII at the U.S. Bank Stadium on February 4, 2018 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Elsa/Getty Images Moments after the White House canceled the event, former Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith posted on social media, “So many lies.” Several members of the 2018 Eagles, including Malcolm Jenkins, Chris Long, and Brandon Graham, previously said they would not attend the White House ceremony. “To me, not going to the White House had nothing to do with the anthem. I said I wasn’t going to the White House a long time ago,” Long said in June 2018. Jenkins, who helped create the Players Coalition to fight for racial and social equality, demonstrated by raising his fist during the national anthem. In a 2017 preseason game, Long put his arm around Jenkins during the anthem and said afterward, “I’m here to show support as a White athlete.” In 2016, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem to raise awareness for racial injustice. In the years after, other NFL players joined by protesting during the anthem. Were the Eagles the only championship team not to visit the Trump White House in his first term? The 2018 Eagles are not the only championship team, professional or collegiate, to skip a visit to the White House during Mr. Trump’s first term as president. In fact, the Eagles aren’t the only Philadelphia-area championship team not to go. The 2017-18 Villanova Wildcats didn’t visit the White House after former head coach Jay Wright said Mr. Trump did not invite the team. While the Patriots went in 2017, several players skipped the visit, including Tom Brady for “personal reasons” and Devin McCourty, Martellus Bennett, Dont’a Hightower and former Eagles Chris Long and LeGarrette Blount for political differences. In 2017, the NBA champion Golden State Warriors didn’t go to the White House. Mr. Trump rescinded the invitation after Warriors star Stephen Curry said he may not attend. The Warriors won the title the next year and were not invited. After their WNBA championships, neither the 2017 Minnesota Lynx nor the 2018 Seattle Storm were invited by Mr. Trump to the White House. Several college championship teams did not attend the White House during Mr. Trump’s first term, including the 2016-17 University of North Carolina men’s basketball team, 2016-17 South Carolina women’s basketball team, 2017-18 Notre Dame women’s basketball team and 2018-19 University of Virginia men’s basketball team. The 2018-19 Baylor women’s basketball team became the first women’s team to visit the White House solo under Mr. Trump. Which president started Super Bowl winner White House visits? In 1980, President Jimmy Carter invited the Pittsburgh Steelers to the White House for a joint visit with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who had won the 1979 World Series. The Steelers beat the Rams in Super Bowl XIV. The Pirates won the 1979 World Series in seven games over the Baltimore Orioles. The Steelers were the first Super Bowl-winning team to be invited to the White House. During the visit, Carter held a Pirates hat and a Steelers “terrible towel.” The history of the White House championship visits Sports teams visiting the White House after winning a championship is a tradition now, but it dates back to the 19th century. According to the White House Historical Association, President Andrew Johnson invited amateur baseball teams Brooklyn Atlantics and Washington Nationals on Aug. 30, 1865. Four years later, in 1869, President Ulysses S. Grant invited the first professional sports team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, to the White House. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge hosted the Washington Senators, the first MLB team invited to the White House, after the club won the World Series. The first NBA team to visit the White House after winning a championship was the Celtics in 1963 when President John F. Kennedy hosted Boston. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan invited the New York Islanders to the White House after the team won the Stanley Cup. The Islanders were the first NHL team to visit. 16. Las Vegas police arrest 3rd suspect after several get sick following visits to unlicensed doctor’s office Las Vegas police arrest 3rd suspect after several get sick following visits to unlicensed doctor’s office LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police arrested a third person after several got sick following visits to an unlicensed doctor’s office in the Las Vegas valley. Police arrested Carmen Corella-Redondo, 32, on Feb. 20. This was several weeks after the arrests of Ismael Rizo, 54, and Hector Cuba Quintana, 33. Police said the three were providing medical services and prescriptions without proper licensing out of a suite in the 4500 block of West Oakey Boulevard. The office, located near Arville Street, primarily tended to Spanish-speaking clients without insurance, police said in documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained. Last September, Metro police received a report of an unlicensed doctor who allegedly caused patients to become ill, documents said. The person making that report said she found the doctor’s office after searching for “natural holistic treatments” for a kidney infection, documents said. The woman then met a person she believed was a licensed doctor. The doctor treated the woman with an injection and then “she began to feel ill,” documents said. “The unknown ‘doctor’ started to worry and provided [the woman] with a soda and water.” She later “placed drops under her tongue in [hopes] that her high blood pressure would go down.” The woman’s husband later called 911 and paramedics brought her to a hospital. “[The woman] stated that the ‘doctor’ exited through the back of the business and had all patrons leave and closed the business,” police said. Police sent undercover employees to the business several times and a “doctor” at the facility gave one of them medication. In an interview with police, Cuba Quintana said “he was illegally working as a doctor and diagnosing and treating patients and administering injectable,” documents said. Rizo Martinez too admitted he did not have a valid license. Corella-Redondo faces charges of acting as a medical practitioner without a license, furnishing dangerous drugs without a prescription, possessing schedule III, IV, or V controlled substances, opening or maintaining a place for *****, gift, or use of the controlled substance, and performing health care procedure without a license. Her next court appearance was scheduled for March 20. Now police are asking anyone who sought medical care from the three suspects or has information about the incident to contact detectives at 702-828-3243 or to send an email *****@*****.tld. 20. There’s an ugly trend developing in the stock market There’s an ugly trend developing in the stock market Market leaders quickly becoming laggards — that’s what investors have witnessed lately, provided one looks underneath the surface of the daily market action. Some pros warn it could be sending a near-term negative sign for the broader market, which is dealing with new concerns ranging from tariffs to the possibility of no rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year. Many of the best-performing stocks in the market meaningfully declined last week, 22V Research strategist Jeff Jacobson pointed out in a client note on Monday. It’s not just that many of the leaders stopped going up or outperforming, Jacobson said. In several instances, stocks that had broken out to the upside on earnings ended last week below where they trended before results were disclosed. Two examples based on Jacobson’s work include Robinhood (HOOD) and DraftKings (DKNG) — the former has lost 16% in the past five sessions while the latter has shed 25%. NasdaqGS – Delayed Quote • USD At close: February 24 at 4:00:00 PM EST HOOD DKNG Listen: Why Nvidia looks unstoppable Other leaders under pressure include JPMorgan (JPM), Goldman Sachs (GS), and Palantir (PLTR). All three stocks have underperformed the S&P 500’s (^GSPC) modest gain in the past five sessions. Palantir has lost the most, with a 22% plunge amid heightened worries about insider stock selling. Interestingly, after a stunning 20-day run of gains, Meta (META) saw its worst week since July, with a drop of 7.2%. The stock fell every day last week and continued to slide today. NasdaqGS – Delayed Quote • USD At close: February 24 at 4:00:01 PM EST META JPM PLTR Jacobson said the action is an “incredible reversal of fortune.” “If the largest, best performing, names have lost their market leadership for now, it may be hard for the indices to make new meaningful highs in the short-term,” Jacobson wrote. He added, “In addition, continued weakness in the very names that had lifted the market to new highs could result in some further short-term pain on the index level.” “This negative price action also comes at a seasonally weak ******* for the market and ahead of several potentially key catalysts,” including Nvidia earnings, the February jobs report, key inflation reports, and a Fed policy decision, Jacobson wrote. “The market will also have to deal with a potential government shutdown deadline on 3/14 and the looming tariff deadlines on products from Canada and Mexico that were pushed back from early Feb to March.” One-way and stop traffic signs are shown in the Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. (Getty Images) · kolderal via Getty Images The real leaders of the bull market also continue to perform weakly. The “Magnificent Seven” trade of Meta (META), Amazon (AMZN), Google (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), and Tesla (TSLA) has been a mixed bag in 2025. 22. Bossa Games Has Made More Layoffs Amid ‘Industry Turmoil’ Bossa Games Has Made More Layoffs Amid ‘Industry Turmoil’ In January 2024, Bossa Games (formerly known as Bossa Studios) laid off ‘around one-third’ of all employees, citing a ‘perfect storm of circumstances’. Recently, it was revealed that further layoffs have hit the company, with Bossa Games’ CEO stressing that the industry is in a place of turmoil. These layoffs represent the second round of redundancies to strike Bossa Games since the company revealed Lost Skies, an innovative open-world title that’s a far cry from the games the company is used to producing. ‘This is Not a Phase’ Henrique Olifiers, the CEO of Bossa Games, posted a lengthy statement on LinkedIn highlighting the state of the wider industry. It’s his opinion that the tens of thousands of workers laid off over the last two years don’t represent ‘a phase’ but ‘a fundamental transformation’ of the business at large. The co-founder of the company wrote: We’ve had to make the painful decision to scale back, focusing on the late-stage production of Lost Skies and its upcoming launch, ensuring the game is successfully released and evolved for its players for the foreseeable future. Once Lost Skies is established and enjoying live operations, we’ll reshape into small teams working independently on novel game ideas brought to the players as early as possible. It wasn’t mentioned how many people were impacted by this round of redundancies, as Olifiers’ statement only mentions letting go of ‘extremely talented and treasured colleagues’. This has already been a terrible year for the industry when it comes to layoffs and studio closures. Recently, it was suggested that NetEase is preparing to divest overseas studios, which could result in several offices closing entirely. That news came days after the company laid off a North American team formerly working on Marvel Rivals. Bossa Games is best known for Surgeon Simulator and the quirky title, I Am Bread. The reveal of Lost Skies came out of left field, as it’s like nothing that the studio has worked on before, but gamers were enamoured by the exciting trailer and have been looking forward to the title since. 23. Full Swing: Rory McIlroy’s US Open and Scottie Scheffler’s arrest dominate return of Netflix docu-series Full Swing: Rory McIlroy’s US Open and Scottie Scheffler’s arrest dominate return of Netflix docu-series Despite failing to add to his tally of four majors last year, Rory McIlroy plays the prominent role in the third season of Netflix’s Full Swing docu-series which has just dropped on the streaming service. This is golf’s inside the ropes answer to the hit Formula 1 series Drive to Survive. Initially McIlroy was reluctant to become involved. The Northern Irishman made only a limited appearance in the first season, which charted the 2022 golf campaign. This time it appears that much of his time in 2024 was spent with Netflix cameras in tow. He admits: “Sometimes I struggle with the balance of being the best golfer, the best husband or the best dad.” It is a candid admission, although detail is in short supply. Nevertheless following the 35-year-old through the ups and downs of last year provides plenty of drama and intrigue. His close friendship with 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry is reflected with the cameras following their success together in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last April. There is a lovely moment when McIlroy reproaches himself for eating with just a fork “like an American”. This episode leads into the US PGA Championship, a week in which McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife Erica and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested and taken to jail after a traffic incident on his way into the course. It is clear the world number one is less giving of his time to the Full Swing crew, but they did well to access police camera footage of the dramatic early morning arrest. This was the most stunning moment of the 2024 golf season, although charges were dropped within a fortnight. “Are you guys aware that I am playing in the golf tournament?” Scheffler pleaded as he was bundled into the back of a police car. As well as allowing the Netflix crews to follow him around major championship venues, McIlroy also grants them a lengthy interview that covers the main touch points of the golfing year. But the door is shut on the cameras after Bryson DeChambeau pipped McIlroy to the US Open crown at Pinehurst in June. Having expressed happiness that he and Erica were back together by the time that major was played, it also becomes abundantly clear that McIlroy still rues his capitulation at that event in North Carolina. He says his short missed putt on the 16th “let Bryson back into the championship” and that the climax to the tournament was the hardest of his career. McIlroy exited Pinehurst without talking to reporters because he did not want to speak to anyone. “I think I did everyone a favour,” he says of his sharp exit from the scene of the year’s second major. Familiar voices from the first two seasons – Amanda Balionis, Dan Rapaport, Dylan Dethier and Henni Zuel – provide commentary to maintain the narrative of the year. Their contributions are necessarily yet frustratingly superficial. Dedicated golf fans will be aware their expertise runs far deeper than what they reveal in their basic excerpts. Influencer Paige Spiranac is a new addition discussing the crossover appeal of DeChambeau. The show does a good job of explaining the way the two times US Open champion has reinvented himself into a fan favourite. But for those who dedicatedly follow professional golf, the series is not especially revelatory. Then again, this show is not aimed at those viewers. The idea is to make general sports fans care more about pro golf in the way Drive to Survive has done for Formula 1. And it largely succeeds, which is why Netflix commissioned this third season. We see the biggest names on the movie set of Happy Gilmore 2, while Ludvig Aberg grants engaging access to his major debut when he was runner-up at last year’s Masters. Assuming the young Swede maintains his current trajectory, following his recent win at Torrey Pines, he will surely have many more fans as he furthers his quest for a first major title. If he does then the series will have done its job. McIlroy is less in need of such exposure, but his prominence in the third season of Full Swing reinforces its value to growing the appeal of the pro game. 24. Viridis signals US$2.28b earn for Brazilian rare earths project Viridis signals US$2.28b earn for Brazilian rare earths project Viridis Mining & Minerals’ scoping study is displaying eye-opening economics for its rare earths play, signalling US$2.28 billion (A$3.59b) EBITDA across a 20-year mine life at its Colossus project in Brazil. The annual EBITDA of US$114 million (A$180m) is based on today’s spot pricing of about US$60 per kg of neodymium-praseodymium and is among the outstanding numbers for the colossal play shaping up to be among the premier rare earths projects globally. The study points to a potential payback ******* of 3.2 years at the spot price. Pre-tax net-present-value at an 8 per cent discount rate of US$719m (A$1.132b) and total project revenue of US$3.939b (A$6.2b), also using spot prices, add further to the impressive figures. Viridis engaged independent professional firm Hatch to lead the study, after a comprehensive metallurgical work program was completed by leading science agency the *********** Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, along with inputs from Viridis and various consultants. Hatch’s study was based on an initial 5 million tonne per annum mining and production facility across a 20-year mine life. It incorporated the measured and indicated resources identified so far at the Northern Concessions and Cupim South deposits. Cupim South is part of the company’s Southern Complex hub and forms its major deposit. Both deposits comprise only 13pc of the project’s ground and 20pc of the total 493mt resource at the site. Initial capital expenditure for the project is estimated at US$287m (A$452m) excluding contingencies, and the average all-in sustaining costs across the life-of-mine has been assessed at US$8.80 a kilogram of total rare earth oxides. Viridis believes the cost per kilogram positions it to be the world’s lowest known-cost rare earths producer. The study outlined three scenarios, a spot case using neodymium-praseodymium priced at US$60/kg, a base case using US$90/kg and an upside case using US$111/kg. Total EBITDA of US$2.283b at the spot case pricing jumps to $3.82b using the base case figure and leaps up to $5.09b for the upside case scenario, outlining the considerable increase in earnings if the price of rare earths follows an expected trajectory anticipated by market pundits. Total revenue for the life-of-mine increasing from the spot case of US$3.939b grows to $5.643b at the base case price and to more than $7b based on the upside case scenario. The pre-tax internal rate of return almost doubles from 28pc using spot pricing to 54pc at the upside case level and the after-tax rate of return jumps from 20pc to 40pc using the same prices. These results affirm Colossus as one of the most significant and financially robust rare earth development projects globally, underpinned by its world-class resource quality, high magnet rare earth oxide grades and unique metallurgical characteristics. The company believes US$90/kg base case figure is conservative based on most of the forecasts from leading rare earths pricing agencies, highlighting the project’s potential to remain resilient through expected pricing cycles during its mine life. The upside case price of US$111/kg is based on forecast pricing from 2028, when production is expected to start, predicted out to a forecast price of US$134/kg in 2034. Limiting the upper case price to $111/kg demonstrates the study’s conservatism. Viridis is laser-focused on magnet rare earth oxide grades it says will lead to a superior average basket value and estimates a US$30/kg ***** price at spot prices. It says the highest global grades of magnet rare earths oxide within the measured and indicated categories of its resource underpin the superior basket value. The company says annual production across the 20 year mine life is expected to comprise 9500 tonnes per annum of total rare earth oxides and 3500t of magnet rare earth oxides, supported by its 36pc neodymium-praseodymium contribution and 2pc of the higher-value dysprosium-terbium oxides. Adding other deposits within its total resource, which were excluded from the study, could potentially extend the Colossus project’s mining and production plan and its corresponding mine life. Access to 100pc renewable grid power from hydro and solar sources is available. The project is well-supported by State and local government and the local community, which would offer a skilled mining workforce. The scoping study is just the beginning of putting the project on the pathway to production. With its potential to unearth further mineralisation at the site and an expected uplift in rare earth pricing, it is worth asking: How big could Colossus become?
