The airline issued the statement to the BBC on Friday, after the couple told Australia’s Channel Nine that they were traumatised by the experience on the Melbourne to Doha flight. Qatar Airways had apologised in a previous statement for “any inconvenience or distress this incident may have caused”. The incident sparked debate over procedures on dealing with deaths aboard planes. Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin, who were travelling to Venice for a holiday, said the cabin crew had placed the dead woman, covered in blankets, next to Mr Ring for the last four hours of a 14-hour flight. The woman collapsed then died along the aisle beside them. Afterwards, the crew tried but failed to move her body to the business class section because “she was quite large lady and they couldn’t get her through the aisle”, Mr Ring said. They then asked Mr Ring to move over and placed the lady in the seat he was in. While Ms Colin was invited by another passenger to sit beside her across the aisle, Mr Ring said the plane’s staff did not offer to move him elsewhere even though there were vacant seats around. Qatar Airways said on Friday that the crew’s handling of the woman’s death was “in line with training and industry standard practice”. “Passengers were accommodated to other seats, and a crew member was sitting at all times with the deceased passenger for the duration of the flight until landing in Doha,” its statement said. “It is an unfortunate reality that unexpected deaths do sometimes occur on board aircraft across the aviation industry and our crew are highly trained to deal with these situations with as much respect and dignity as possible.” The airline also said that they have offered support and compensation to the family of the deceased and other passengers who were directly affected by the incident. “We totally understand that we can’t hold the airline responsible for the poor lady’s death, but surely after that there has to be a protocol to look after the customers on board,” Ms Colin said in the televised interview with Channel 9. When the plane landed, Mr Ring said passengers were asked to stay put while medical staff and police came on board. Ambulance officers then started pulling blankets off the woman and he saw her face, he said. “I can’t believe they told us to stay,” he said, adding that he thought they would have let the passengers leave the plane first before letting medical staff handle the body. Barry Eustance, a former Virgin Atlantic captain, earlier told the BBC that in his experience “the crew would normally try to isolate the body, so there is no passenger exposure to the body and vice versa, for respect and privacy but also for medical reasons”. According to the guidelines by the International Air Transport Association on dealing with deaths on board a flight, the deceased person should be moved to a seat, preferably one with few other passengers nearby, and covered with a blanket or body bag up to the neck. The body could also moved to another area that does not obstruct an aisle or exit. Upon landing, the association recommends that other passengers disembark before the body is attended to by local authorities. The criticism comes as Platkin, who Gov. Phil Murphy appointed to the job in February 2022, has joined other Democratic attorneys general around the nation to challenge the constitutionality of various Trump administration orders. Assemblyman Erik Peterson (R-Hunterdon), during discussion on a bill that would require Platkin’s office to annually review the state’s policy on police use of force, complained that Platkin is too “busy inserting himself into federal politics” to comply with state legislators’ marching orders. “He should resign. He’s a disgrace, and he needs to go back to where he came from,” Peterson said. “We need an attorney general who will do the will of the people.” Legislative GOP leaders introduced a five-page resolution Thursday that accused Platkin of waging “lawfare” and overstepping his authority by investigating the state police and taking over the Paterson police department in 2023. A state appellate court ruled in December that he had no legal authority to do so, a decision Platkin has appealed to the state Supreme Court. “Platkin has undermined people’s trust in our police and the office of the Attorney General. We’re starting the impeachment process to balance the scales of justice,” Assemblyman John DiMaio (R-Warren), his chamber’s GOP leader, said in a statement. “He is not above the law.” The resolution also accuses Platkin of mishandling legal responses to the pandemic, targeting anti-abortion pregnancy centers because of an alliance with Planned Parenthood, and hurting the state police by ordering an investigation into their traffic stops. The resolution was sponsored by DiMaio and Assemblymen Antwan McClellan (R-Cape May) and Christopher DePhillips (R-Bergen). Platkin called the criticism “partisan political attacks” and refused to respond to critics’ specific charges. “I am focused on the same priorities I have had since day one: driving gun violence down to historically low levels, holding social media corporations accountable for the harms they’re inflicting on our children, and protecting our residents — including by standing up to threats from Washington and fighting corruption, no matter who it offends,” he said in a statement. The GOP calls for his ouster came just a day after attorneys for South Jersey Democratic power broker George Norcross and his allies demanded Platkin resign because a state judge dismissed a racketeering indictment Platkin’s office brought against Norcross last year. The Republicans’ impeachment resolution is unlikely to advance in the Democrat-controlled Legislature. It would require a majority vote in the Assembly, followed by a trial in the Senate overseen by the chief justice of the state Supreme Court and a two-thirds vote in that chamber. Based on Sally Rooney’s novel, the BBC Three drama charted the on-off relationship of teenagers Marianne and Connell. It starred Daisy Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal, while Hardwicke played Rob, Connell’s friend from high school. Released in April 2020, Normal People became a lockdown phenomenon. Last year, Edgar-Jones and Mescal almost broke the internet with an Instagram post that appeared to tease a sequel. The pair later clarified that, in fact, they were reuniting to host a marathon screening of Normal People for charity. There are spoilers below. In the series, Hardwicke’s character Rob suffers from depression and commits suicide, causing Connell’s mental health to suffer. But Hardwicke said that it’s not the fact he wouldn’t be in any sequel, that makes him not want one. “I’d be very happy to watch it as a punter, because then I could enjoy it,” he said, speaking at the annual Oscar Wilde event to celebrate Irish talent. He also admitted that he can why some people want to revisit the series. “Of course, part of me is curious, I’d love to see those characters in 15 years,” he said. “I just adore Sally [Rooney]’s writing so much, I’m excited every time she releases a new book, so I’m just looking forward to reading what she does next.” Hardwicke said he still speaks to his Normal People co-stars. “We all stay in touch, which is nice. It was a really special thing for all of us,” he said. “I think that will never change. Martin’s career at KTVU spans 33 years. He’s stepping down from his TV job, but he’s not done with weather. OAKLAND, Calif. – On Thursday, Bill Martin will analyze his final satellite model, create his final weather graphics, and deliver his final forecast as KTVU’s chief meteorologist. Martin, with his signature “Nor Cal surfer guy meets highly knowledgeable scientist” vibe, will do what he’s done at the Oakland Jack London Square studio for the past 33 years— provide viewers with the information they need to get out the door the next day, map out upcoming plans and outings, and even help determine what to wear. Timeline The seasoned weatherman began his journey at KTVU in 1992, working weekends. Early in his career, he also worked at KRON, Channel 50 KFTY in Santa Rosa, and in 1991 he began delivering the weather at KPIX on weekends. Bill Martin on the set with the late Leslie Griffith and with George Watson. Then in 1996, Martin returned to KTVU, the station he would call home for the rest of his career. He is Northern California to the core, with his deep family roots in the region dating back to the Gold Rush. Martin grew up in Paradise in Butte County. He went on to complete a postgraduate degree at San Francisco State University where he studied atmospheric science. In 2014, he was among a select group of only eight meteorologists from around the country invited to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama and his science advisers to discuss critical issues related to climate change. Big picture view Martin is credited for helping to shape the KTVU Weather Department into what it is today. Many Bay Area residents would agree that he has become a household name over the years, with his casual and unassuming, yet expert delivery. The ease with which he has engaged with his audience has been a reflection of the kind of person he is off-camera, someone friendly and kind. His wife, Pam Martin, said these characteristics were the first things she noticed about him when they met. “He was so nice. That is what I first thought. He was so friendly to everyone, complimented everyone,” Pam said. An accomplished surfer, his passion for the great outdoors, its wind patterns, and the ocean’s swells and tides all fed into the passion he found in meteorology. Son Bill said he learned by watching his dad what it means to do what you love, go after your dreams, all while being a good and an upstanding person. “That was his big strength. That is what he has told me as well. Just be authentic to yourself,” the son shared. “Do what you want to do and don’t let anybody get in the way of that and just be a nice person.” In the newsroom, the meteorologist has embodied that kindness, never hesitating to offer a colleague a compliment on a good job or any advice to help improve their craft, and has acted as a mentor to many. Just days after Martin announced his retirement last month, the KTVU family experienced a profound loss, with the passing of former anchor Dennis Richmond on Feb. 5. As Martin’s news career comes to a close, he’s approaching the next chapter in the way he always has: poised and ready to take on that next wave. What’s next While he will no longer broadcast his daily KTVU weather forecasts, he’s not ready to give up his love of meteorology and his love for sharing his knowledge. Martin has started a company, calledWeather Applied Metrics or WAM, technology that gauges how weather conditions affect the outcome of sporting events. His company is set to work with every team in Major League Baseball and a few National Football League teams. He’s also launched a fast-growing YouTube channel, @2Meteorologist, where he will continue to deliver the weather. The channel, he said, is taking the edge off the sadness of having to say goodbye to his audience. You’ve done amazing,” his son Bill said. “I’m excited to see what’s next.” And from daughter Avery: “Dad, I can’t wait to spend even more time with you. I can’t wait to make more memories together. I’m so proud of the life that you’ve built. To get watch it from close proximity is a blessing.” The days leading up to his final day at KTVU brought unseasonably warm and sunny weather, a fitting forecast for a bright and well-respected weatherman who has made an indelible mark in the Bay Area, bringing countless viewers valuable insight and information to help them navigate the meteorological landscape from day to day for more than three decades. When looking at the best gaming monitors, the Gigabyte M32UC and the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 inevitably both turn up. They both come with that crisp UHD resolution and speedy refresh rate, not to mention 1ms response time, but they differ in a few ways. The Gigabyte M32UC is a bit cheaper than the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 while coming with a different set of features. For instance, the Gigabyte has KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switching through the included USB hub as well as a set of speakers, even if those speakers are its worst executed aspect. The Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 costs a bit more, but has better color coverage, making it capable of doing creative editing. On the feature side, it also integrates nicely with other Corsair products and comes with a multi-mount arm to mount a camera or mic. Of course, it doesn’t have speakers at all or KVM. They both fit different secondary needs, so let’s look a little closer on how they differ and which one might work out better for you. You can also take a look at the individual reviews of the Gigabyte M32UC and the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 to dig even deeper on each model. Despite its lackluster speakers and poorly adjusted out-of-the-box settings, the Gigabyte M32UC has a lot going for it as a 4K @144Hz monitor. To start with, the image quality is actually very good once dialed in. There are plenty of ports, including a USB hub with KVM capabilities. And the price tag makes this a great value. The Gigabyte M32UC, being the cheaper one, has an MSRP of $799 / £681 (about AU$1,093), which, when released, was about as cheap as one could go for a 144Hz 4K gaming monitor. Now that higher resolutions and refresh rates are becoming more common, the price has dropped accordingly, and I was able to find the Gigabyte M32UC discounted to $489.99 / £479.00 / AU$859.00 at the time of writing. The Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 has a higher list price of $999 (about £949 / about AU$1,450), but is also discounted, though to a slightly higher price of $799.99 / £949.99 (about AU$1,230). Also worth noting is that this latter model is not available in Australia. Now, looking at these two monitors side-by-side, the Corsair is obviously more expensive and by a wide margin. As I’ve mentioned and will dig into a bit further, its color coverage does make it the better model for video and photo editing. For some, that might be worth the extra cost. Gigabyte M32UC vs Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144: Design (Image credit: Future) Not only are both the Gigabyte M32UC and the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 144Hz 4K monitors, they’re both 32 inches. Where they start to differ is that the Gigabyte has a VA panel to the Corsair’s IPS one. Each one has a few design points that stand out. The Gigabyte is a curved monitor with a 1500R curvature, if you’re wanting a bit of that wraparound effect to minimize eye strain (the corners are a bit closer to the field of vision). Unfortunately, the plastic frame holding the display feels a bit cheap – probably a result of it being a bit on the cheaper side for what it is. The Gigabyte also has built-in speakers. The Corsair has bezels that seem thicker than expected. The Corsair’s base is also on the bulky side so adjusting the monitor’s placement takes a little elbow grease. At least, it has cable management in its stand unlike the Gigabyte. It also includes something that you won’t find on most monitors and that’s a multi-mount arm that can hold a camera or mic, a boon for most streamers. As far as the ports go, they’re both fairly similar. You get two 2.1 HDMI, which allow you to connect a current generation console and get 4K @120Hz refresh rate. There’s also DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-C for connecting an Ultrabook or MacBook. They both also have an included USB hub, with the Gigabyte having three downstream USB ports to the Corsair’s two (they both have an upstream port as well). However, the USB hub on the Gigabyte M32UC allows for KVM switching, meaning you can plug a keyboard and mouse into the monitor and it will send the signal from those peripherals to whatever source is currently active. Gigabyte M32UC vs Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144: Features (Image credit: Future) The features that stand out most on these two models have already been mentioned, namely the Gigabyte M32UC’s KVM switching, which is a great feature for anyone regularly swapping between two different computers. The Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 has that multi-mount arm, which saves you an additional purchase. Also worth noting is that both monitors sport HDR capabilities with the Gigabyte M32UC capable of HDR400 to the Corsair’s HDR600. Since these are gaming monitors, they both have AMD FreeSync premium. They both can display a crosshair on the screen, while the Gigabyte also adds in the ability to display an onscreen timer and aim stabilization. Gigabyte M32UC vs Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144: Performance (Image credit: Future) Since the Gigabyte M32UC and the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 have the same resolution, refresh rate, and monitor size, how do they differ? For starters, the cheaper Gigabyte actually has a 3000:1 contrast ratio to the Corsair’s 1000:1. However, it has 350 nits of brightness compared to the Corsair’s 400. But that’s negligible. Where one outshines the other is in color coverage. The Gigabyte M32UC has 93% DCI-P3, which is more than respectable and adequate (but not great) if you need to do video editing. The Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 is better, however, with 98% DCI-P3 and 100% Adobe color gamuts, making this monitor more accurate for editing work. Of course, if you just want to game, the difference is really not going to be important to you. The Gigabyte’s curved screen maybe also more comfortable to look at for an extended ******* of time. We should also discuss audio. While both monitors come with a headphone jack, only the Gigabyte M32UC has built-in speakers. You might appreciate their inclusion even if they sound terrible. Many of the best computer speakers are not all that pricey, not to mention many gamers prefer using one of the best gaming headsets for their gaming audio. I would suggest outsourcing your audio, even if you can technically use speakers on a monitor (they’re almost never good). Which 144Hz gaming monitor is right for you? Choosing either the Gigabyte M32UC or the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 comes down to preference, as they both are better in different regards. The Gigabyte has speakers, even if they don’t sound all that great, and comes with KVM switching that the Corsair doesn’t have. It’s also a good deal cheaper so going with the Corsair is not a matter of adding in just a little extra, but a couple hundred extra. However, the Corsair comes with a multi-mount arm, which would be an extra cost in and of itself, and it has better color coverage, making it better suited if you also plan on doing any kind of editing or content. In terms of pure performance, the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 is better. However, the Gigabyte M32UC does come with more useful features for a general gamer. And it accelerated in November, December. And then I looked at January, February sales, and I thought, it’s continuing. Retail’s not contracting to the degree I thought it might – it’s actually improving.” Mr Harvey attributed the sales resilience to rising wages, a million more people in Australia, and the third of Australians who own their own homes mortgage-free. “The ones that are screwed are the third of the people that rent – they’ve got no money, and they’re surviving just to pay their rent. But when you put the whole of that together, you end up with more money that’s going into the economy.” Overall, Harvey Norman reported a first-half profit of $400.3 million, up 41.2 per cent from a year ago, although that was driven mostly by property revaluations. An Engagement Fib That Came True An Engagement Fib That Came True On her first date with Clarke Daniel Adams, Carrie Kelly Seim intentionally wore a shiny bracelet. “It was a really unusual studded silver bracelet that I’d purchased at a bazaar in Oman,” she said. “It sounds silly,” she added. “But I swear many men are drawn to shiny things.” What she didn’t intend on was losing it. Mr. Adams and Ms. Seim had matched on the League dating app in May 2017. After they messaged one another, he suggested a first date at the Library Bar at the NoMad Hotel, now known as the Ned NoMad, in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. “He didn’t know it was one of my favorites,” Ms. Seim said. “I remember her walking in the door looking exactly like her pictures — always a plus when you meet people online,” he said. “She was dressed to the nines.” “He looked so handsome,” she said. “He had this James Bond look, and he had this really warm smile. I was worried he might be dull. But he was instantly funny. He has this very dry wit.” It was clear from the start that there was a connection. Ms. Seim appreciated that Mr. Adams was asking her questions, “which doesn’t always happen,” she said. “He is genuinely interested in women’s thoughts and ideas and likes interesting, strong women.” The ease of conversation struck Mr. Adams, too. “We were able to talk instantly about a variety of subjects effortlessly for two hours,” he said. At the end of the evening, as Mr. Adams was walking Ms. Seim out of the restaurant, she realized that the shiny bracelet she had worn — which, alas, he doesn’t recall noticing — was gone. When she told Mr. Adams it was missing, he “crawled under the tables and found it,” she said. The two went on several more dates in the early summer months of 2017 when their work and travel schedules allowed. But they kept up “quite the texting rapport,” Ms. Seim said. Three months into dating, their relationship took a turn. “We had been on four or five dates and everything seemed to be going well,” Ms. Seim said. Then she received a text from him in mid-August: He said he was dealing with some family issues and couldn’t date anyone. “I was really shocked and disappointed,” she said, but added that she earnestly wished him well. Ms. Seim, 47, who is from Bellevue, Neb., has written children’s novels like “Horse Girl” (Penguin Random House), which is currently being developed for television with producing partner Zosia Mamet, the Audible Original series “The Flying Flamingo Sisters” and the upcoming “Horse Camp: A Horse Girl Mystery.” She is also a freelance television writer; a freelance journalist (who has written for The New York Times); and an actor who has appeared on “Inside Amy Schumer” and many TV commercials. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree from Northwestern University, both in journalism. Mr. Adams, 54, is a managing director and head of high yield capital for the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Franklin & Marshall College and a graduate degree in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. On a whim, she invited a few men she had dated. The only one who came to the event was Mr. Adams, and Ms. Seim said she was “absolutely giddy” to see him. “I was in a better spot,” Mr. Adams said. “She was very gracious and hung out with me all night. Plus, I accidentally won a bunch of auction items.” One of his winnings was two tickets to see the musical “Hello, Dolly!” on Broadway. “I told him that I felt bad that he’d spent so much on the auction,” she said. “He said I could make it up to him by being his date for the show.” She wasn’t sure if he was just inviting her to be polite. But once at the theater in mid-October 2017, he reached over to hold her hand. By January, Mr. Adams asked Ms. Seim to be his girlfriend, and, the next month, he introduced her to his two sons at his home in Darien, Conn. She met his daughter, who was away at college, a few months later. Mr. Adams’s his first wife, Lisa Bonchek Adams, died of metastatic ******* in 2015. She had written extensively about her medical journey. He has three children from that marriage — Paige, 26, Colin, 22, and Tristan, 18. They became engaged in June 2023 when Mr. Adams was in Los Angeles visiting Ms. Seim, who was there for meetings about the “Horse Girl” TV adaptation. Ms. Seim had arranged a dinner for them with friends and actually fibbed about celebrating her engagement in order to get a reservation at Nobu Malibu. “It can be impossible to get a table there,” she said, adding that she “knew we would be getting engaged in some months.” Ms. Seim slipped a costume ring on her left ring finger to complete the ruse. When Mr. Adams noticed the ring, he seemed flustered, she said, and their friends, who were in on Mr. Adam’s secret plan to propose, could not help but laugh at the situation. While taking in the ocean view, one of their friends asked Ms. Seim if he could see the ring so that she would take it off, and Mr. Adams asked their friends to have a photo taken of him and Ms. Seim. As they posed, he proposed. “All I remember is him saying, ‘You love my children like they’re your own,’” Ms. Seim said. On Feb. 15, Brian Clark, a close friend of the couple who was ordained by Universal Life Church for the event, officiated an outdoor wedding at the Palms Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach, with 101 guests in attendance. The wedding party included Ms. Seim’s sister, Lindsay Seim, and Mr. Adams’s three children. The bride wore three dresses: the Swan by Esteé Couture for the ceremony; a secondhand white flapper dress with heavy beading and feather trim by Nadine Merabi for the first dance; and a mini dress by Nicole + Felicia for the after-party. “I come from a sketch-comedy background,” said Ms. Seims, who is an alumna of the Groundlings Sunday Company in Los Angeles, “and love a costume change.” The groom wore a Michael Andrews Bespoke tuxedo with a white dinner jacket, along with vintage Chanel cuff links, with the interlocking “C” motif representing Carrie and Clarke, a gift from the bride. “I have a large family and we were all together in one place for the first time in many years,” Mr. Adams said. “I can’t imagine that it was easy, but from the beginning Carrie has always fit in perfectly with my rambunctious crew.” On this Day When Feb. 15, 2025 Where The Palms Hotel & Spa, Miami Beach Medical Miracle Last March, Ms. Seim’s mother, Sharon Seim, had a stroke and was “given only a 10 percent chance of survival,” said Ms. Seim, who spent several months in Florida helping with her care. “When my mom was in a coma and on a vent and feeding tube, they put a ‘recovery goal’ in her room,’” Ms. Seim said. “My sister wrote, ‘Go to Carrie’s wedding.’” Not only did Ms. Seim’s mother make it to the wedding and walk Ms. Seim down the aisle along with her father, Donald Seim, but, the bride added, “my mom, who has only been able to walk on her own for a few months, started grooving on the dance floor with me, my dad and my sister.” Going For the Laugh “My ceremony gown was on the ginormous side, including an impressively long train. As I made my way down the staircase solo, I could feel the crowd palpably holding their breaths, worried I was about to trip and fall on my face in front of 100 of my loved ones,” Ms. Seim said. “So, I faked an off-kilter wobble and got a big laugh, which I think lifted the tension and got us off to a fun start.” Love’s a Puzzle Mr. Adam’s older son, Colin, designs crosswords puzzles — including some for The New York Times. “He created a custom, giant crossword with clues about us for guests to solve during ********* hour,” Ms. Seim said. Kia reveals a new lineup of electric vans Kia reveals a new lineup of electric vans Look for Kia to expand its range of battery electric vans with the launch of the PV5, the opening salvo in a new business strategy as the South Korean automaker aims to increase its production by one million units – all of them EVs. Kia PV5 Cargo VanKia Motors “We at Kia are unwavering in our belief in electrification,” said Ho-Sung Song, CEO of Kia Motors at 2025 Kia EV Day, a news conference held in Tarragona, Spain near Barcelona earlier this week. To that end, Kia unveiled a new electric vehicle this week aimed at the light commercial vehicle market. Related: Kia unveils 2025 EV4 and EV2 So, what is it? The PV5 is the first in a series of light-duty commercial vans and trucks built on the new modular Electric Global Modular Platform for Service, or E-GMP.S. Derived from Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP EV architecture, the skateboard platform standardizes batteries, motors, modular body panels, and other components and incorporates them into an architecture that simplifies development and decreases expenditures. Kia PV5 Passenger VanKia Motors Kia’s standard model variants will include Passenger, Cargo, Chassis-Cab, and WAV (Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicle) bodies. The architecture’s flexibility will allow Kia to go even further, building Crew, Drop-Side, Box Van, Freezer Box, and Light Camper models. The vehicles will be built at a dedicated plant in South Korea designed to handle small runs of special vehicles through flexible production, although what that might entail wasn’t explained further. But they’re not coming to America – yet Kia will begin building the 184.6-inch-long PV5 for European and Asian markets, including Japan, a first for the Korean automaker. Whether it will come to America remains to be seen. Kia Motors CEO Hu-Sung Song: Kia’s architect for its EV line-up.Kia Motors Light trucks imported into the United States are subject to a 25% tariff enacted by Congress in 1964. There’s also existing competition from Detroit automakers and their conservative, brand-loyal customers. This means that selling most PV5s in America is a no-go. The company could still import the forthcoming Light Camper or the WAV models as PV5s with value-added features and a market price that could help Kia cover the cost of the tariffs without losing money. Kia CEO Song admitted as much later during an interview. “This is what we are studying,” Song said. “But it’s not fixed yet.” Still, even if given the go-ahead, it would be some time before the vehicle would hit our shores. The PV5 will have a 161-horsepower (120 kW) front motor producing 184 pound-feet (250 Nm) of torque from a 51.5-kWh or 71.2-kWh NCM battery, or a 43.3-kWh LFP battery option for the PV5 Cargo. Kia says that the PV5 powertrain has a 249-mile WLTP range and can be recharged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes using a DC fast charger. What PV5s will be offered? Initially, Kia will offer the three-row PV5 Passenger, which can be optimized for luggage or camping. It was initially developed with Uber for ride-sharing, so it will have a lift-up tailgate and folding seats for passenger/luggage flexibility. Kia PV5 Crew VanKia Motors The automaker will also build the PV5 Cargo (High Roof), which has 180 cubic feet (5.1 meters) of space. Standard and long versions will also be available, and like any cargo van, it will be built for two passengers. An L-track mounting system, with sliding tie-down rings that can be positioned in various locations, will be optional. There will also be a 178-inch-long Chassis Cab featuring the Cargo’s finished front end and an unfinished back end that can be developed into various trucks, including a Drop-Side, Box Van, and Freezer Box. The big game-changer could be the PV5 WAV, though, which was shown in concept form. We want everybody to be mobile,” said Jochen Paesen, Kia’s Vice-President of Interior Design. “And then we thought, well, hold on, there’s actually huge opportunities; people that don’t have mobility, people that maybe we don’t think about enough.” Kia PV5 WAV is engineered for wheelchair accessKia Motors Typically, if you need a vehicle adapted for wheelchair or scooter use, you’ll buy the vehicle and spend just as much in the aftermarket to have it retrofitted, with a total cost approaching or surpassing six figures. The PV5 WAV allows those with such needs to buy a wheelchair accessible vehicle straight from the factory. Designers placed the entry ramp on the sidewalk side for safety, with a maximum weight capacity of up to 661 pounds.
