Cars seized as drivers caught ‘setting up to race’ in Nottingham
Adam Moss
BBC News, East Midlands
BBC
Nottinghamshire Police has been targeting anti-social and dangerous driving by car cruisers as part of Operation Wheelspin
Police have seized five vehicles and 14 drivers will be prosecuted after up to 400 cars were caught “setting up to race” in Nottingham.
Nottinghamshire Police said it became aware a large number of car cruisers were set to descend on the city on Saturday 3 May.
A coordinated operation was then put in place at known hotspots for reckless driving, which the force said led to the seizure of cars and allowed officers to prevent issues at other locations.
The force has targeted car cruising since last year as part of Operation Wheelspin, which aims to put the brakes on “meets” organised on closed social media groups.
Nottinghamshire Police
Officers have also caught drivers performing a “donut” at locations including a retail park in Colwick
The force said the initiative, which has used number plate recognition technology to build up a database of potential problem cars, has led to a 20% reduction in related offences.
Sgt James Carrington has previously told the BBC the force is “playing a game of cat and mouse” with car cruising organisers, who can often arrange multiple meets at several local locations on one night.
Speaking about the operation on 3 May, he said: “We seized five cars that night alone, and 14 drivers will be prosecuted.
“We also populated our database with a huge number of vehicle registration marks for further monitoring and to develop our intelligence picture going forward, as well as dispersing them out of Nottinghamshire without issue.”
Officers have seized dashcam footage from motorists caught driving irresponsibly.
Sgt Carrington added: “The operation was a real success and underlines how we will continue to work hard to keep people safe, prevent and disrupt antisocial behaviour being caused at these car cruise events, and do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”
A further two cars were stopped, leading to police enforcement action after a smaller-scale pop-up meet on the A57 at Worksop on Bank Holiday Monday.

Surprisingly Advanced Ancient Spear Tip Was Not Made by Modern Humans
Surprisingly Advanced Ancient Spear Tip Was Not Made by Modern Humans
Researchers have found that a spear tip carved from bone, unearthed from Russia in 2003, is as old as 80,000 years. This means the hunting weapon could not have been created by modern humans.
***** sapiens didn’t venture into Europe until about 45,000 years ago, so the most likely spear-wielders in this case were the Neanderthals (***** neanderthalensis).
Although examples are still rare, it seems our ancient cousins had advanced their technologies beyond stone tools, using techniques that, until recently, had only been credited to our species.
View of the bone spear tip from each side. (Golovanova et al., J. Archaeol. Sc., 2025)
The find was explored in a new paper from a team led by archeologist Liubov Golovanova of the Laboratory of Prehistory in Russia.
“The… specimen suggests that at least some groups of late Middle Paleolithic Neanderthals in Europe have started to develop bone-tipped hunting weapons,” explain the authors.
“They made this invention independently and without influence from early Upper Paleolithic modern humans that started to arrive to the continent much later.”
The spear tip joins a few other recent finds that demonstrate Neanderthals developed techniques specific to working with bone, such as scraping and flat cutting. These include a 50,000-year-old cache of bone tools from Siberia and 40,000-year-old leather-softening tools from Europe.
Details of the tip of the bone hunting weapon. (Golovanova et al., J. Archaeol. Sc., 2025)
Bone tools as old as 400,000 years have also been found in Italy. This is about when Neanderthals first emerged, so it is possible this technology existed even before them.
But the level of craftsmanship of these really early bone tools is not as advanced as those found in Europe after modern humans arrived, Golovanova and team note.
The scarcity of Neanderthal bone tools, compared to stone ones, may be due to decay over time, without specific environmental conditions to preserve them.
The Mezmaiskaya Cave, where the spear tip was found amongst a variety of animal remains, stone tools and signs of a campfire, likely provided the conditions required for the bone’s long-term preservation.
Stone tools found alongside the spear tip. (Golovanova et al., J. Archaeol. Sc., 2025)
“The preservation of bones is exceptional at Mezmaiskaya Cave,” the researchers write. “No evidence of weathering, chemical dissolution, sediment abrasion, root etching, or trampling have been observed on the specimen, indicating that post-depositional alteration or destruction did not affect the surfaces of the bone tool.”
Golovanova and team identified cracks in the Neanderthal’s bone spear tip during their analysis. These, as well as lack of wear, suggest the weapon had been used to successfully strike something soon after it was carved and bound to a wooden shaft using tar.
The bone was likely once part of a bison.
This research was published in the Journal of Archaeological Science.

Chuwi AuBox 8745 mini PC review
Chuwi AuBox 8745 mini PC review

Chuwi AuBox 8745: 30-second review
Having seen a few Chuwi laptops recently, I was interested to see a Mini PC from the same stable.
The Chuwi AuBox comes in three flavours. The bottom rung offers an AMD 6000 series processor, the one reviewed here is an 8000 series, and the top of the line is an Intel variant with a 13th-gen i9 mobile CPU.
The AuBox 8745 model reviewed here probably has the newest silicon, although the CPU and GPU combination is almost identical to the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS that first appeared in 2023.
You may like
That said, this is a punchy platform in an elegant aluminium case that is easily upgradable, and with support for up to four screens via DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 4.0 and USB-C, it offers fantastic flexibility.
Supplied with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled, the Chuwi AuBox 8745 is a mini PC that is ready to deploy out of the box and works equally well on the desktop or mounted on the back of a monitor.
There is only one flaw, and that is that the default SKU offers a single 16GB memory module, a choice that significantly impacts the GPU performance on AMD Radeon 780M machines.
Chuwi needs to quickly fix this issue with dual 8GB modules or increase the memory to 32GB (dual 16GB) if it’s to have a chance to make it into our best mini PC round-up.
Chuwi AuBox 8745: Price and availability
How much does it cost? $440/£332
When is it out? Available soon
Where can you get it? Currently, this machine can be obtained directly from Chuwi.
The asking price of this machine is jaw-dropping. According to the Global Chuwi website, it costs £331.40 to *** customers, plus shipping and import duty. While it isn’t yet on the Chuwi USA website, it looks like the price for American customers will be $440, but again, that doesn’t include delivery, sales tax and potential tariffs.
To compare that with a similarly specified model from GMKtec, the K8, that’s more than the barebone SKU GMKtec has, but cheaper than one with memory and storage. Or rather, it would be if GMKtec had any stock of that model. They have a NucBox K8 Plus model, a redesign that costs $522.99 for the 32GB model with 1TB of storage.
An alternative with the 32GB/1TB specification that uses the Ryzen 7 8845hs chip costs $550 from Geekom for its A8 series.
Most Mini PC makers have an AMD machine that uses the 8845HS, but only a few use the 8745HS, like the Beelink SER8. One of those costs about $500 with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, which is almost exactly what an AuBox 8745HS would cost with the RAM and storage upgraded.
Therefore, the Chuwi AuBox 8745 seems like a bargain until you realise that once it’s been upgraded, it’s the same price as other makers are asking for the typical spec.

Chuwi AuBox 8745: Design
Mostly metal Mini PC
USB ports on side
Easy internal access
Considering its relatively low cost, the build quality of the AuBox is impressive. While there is some plastic used inside, the case cover that covers five of the six sides is made from a milled aluminium block.
Not only does this look rather slick and a bit like an Apple design, but it also provides a means for heat inside to be radiated by the case.
Where this Mini PC is slightly divergent from other common designs is that the front face has no ports, only a power button. The ports normally on the front face have been transferred to the right side, and these include three USB ports and a Kensington security slot. The rest of the ports are more conventionally placed on the back, where you will find the monitor outputs (HDMI and DisplayPort), more USB and dual 2.5GbE LAN ports.
The side placement of ports is beneficial for keeping the cabling clutter to a minimum, but is also helpful for monitor-mounting the AuBox. When attached by the included VESA mounting plate, it is possible to have the power button facing up, the mouse and keyboard connections to the right side and the other ports facing down, which is ideal.
Access to the inside is so easy, with four screws accessible via holes in each rubber foot that release the metal cover.
Once the top is released, both the memory SODIMM slots and the M.2 2280 slots for NVMe storage are accessible.
There are two memory slots, one occupied with a single 16GB DDR5 module. To expand the memory, you can either add another module or remove the existing memory and replace it with a ******* capacity.
In theory, this platform can handle up to 256GB of RAM. However, currently, the largest DDR5 SODIMM available is 48GB, making the maximum potential memory of 96GB. The 8745HS doesn’t support ECC memory, for those wondering about making a NAS from this platform.
One especially useful feature is that the two M.2 NVMe slots are both 2280-sized, enabling this machine to take the least expensive storage in the most common form factor. By default, one of these slots is already occupied with a 512GB module, and that is connected thermally to the metal case with a silicon thermal pad.
What’s a little disappointing is that no second thermal pad is included in the box. That the pad touches the case also indicates how close the NVMe is, meaning that it wouldn’t be possible to put a SSD with an integrated heatsink inside and ****** the lid down.
As most 4TB SSD designs have these heatsinks, that probably limits these slots to having 2TB drives installed, if you can find some without heatsinks attached. But, on a positive note, because there are two slots, cloning the operating system to a larger capacity drive is easy, and doesn’t require the use of an M.2 USB caddy.
For the most part, the construction, design, and ergonomics of the AuBox are excellent, and they are exactly what most mini PC purchasers would think are optimal.
Chuwi AuBox 8745: Features
AMD Ryzen 7 8745HS (8 cores, 16 Threads)
16 PCIe Lanes
Single USB 4.0 port
The AMD Ryzen 7 8745HS is practically identical to the Ryzen 7 8845HS, which was launched only eight months before its July 2024 appearance. Its specification is only different in that the 8845HS has a 4% greater Turbo Boost frequency (5.1 GHz vs 4.9 GHz).
Oddly, the 8745hs isn’t mentioned on the AMD site, which might hint that it was only made available to OEMs as a lower-cost option. It might be that AMD had some bins of 8845HS chips that didn’t quite pass the 5.1GHz clock, but were perfect in all other respects.
Whatever the reason, the 8745HS delivers almost precisely the same performance and has all the 16 PCIe lanes that made its predecessor a hit with laptop and Mini PC makers.
However, with so many ports on this machine, some choices were forced, specifically with USB 4.0. There is only one port of USB 4.0, but that’s enough to connect a USB 4.0 dock or hub, and then connect a wide range of devices to that.
The platform can support two USB 4.0 ports, but including dual PCIe M.2 Gen 4 slots and dual 2.5GbE LAN ports, along with all the other USB, probably uses up all the PCIe lanes. Therefore, it appears that M.2 won out over a second USB 4.0 port.
That said, even with one USB 4.0 port, this system still has plenty of flexibility for hanging other equipment off this computer. It might even be possible to use a discrete GPU connected by USB 4.0 externally, although this is known to be inferior to OcuLink connectivity.
One real possibility is to use a USB 4.0 to 10GbE LAN port adapter, which would give this machine up to 15GbE of network bandwidth.
Looking at the AMD Ryzen 8000 series in general, these chips were originally designed for mobile use, but in the mini PC environment, they deliver performance comparable to mid-order desktop platforms. With enough memory and storage, this machine is suitable for most office tasks and can do this while remaining almost silent.
It is possible to spend much more money on a mini system and get some additional performance, but justifying that extra power against the cost might prove challenging.

This machine’s curious story was revealed in benchmarking, and it delivered an unexpected twist that I wasn’t expecting.
When I first received this machine, I checked back through all the Mini PC models I’ve tested to see if I had a machine that used the same 8745HS platform. Because of how reliatively new this silicon is, I didn’t, but I have tested one that used the incredibly similar 8845HS processor.
When I started to compare the results, and the difference was striking.
As I’ve already mentioned, the Ryzen 7 8745HS is almost identical to its older 8845HS brother with the exception of a few clock speeds. But at least on paper, these chips are so close that I wasn’t expecting any significant difference.
However, as you can see, the 8745HS in this mini PC is decidedly slower, especially when the test involves graphics.
The clue as to why is in the other significant difference that the GMKtec K8 has, and it’s the 32GB of DDR5 memory. After another round of tests, I determined this was the reason the K8 was so much better, and ironically, it wasn’t due to the amount of RAM, but how that memory had been added.
For those unfamiliar with DDR5, the SODIMM modules are inherently dual-channel, allowing a single module to offer greater performance by splitting a 64-bit-wide bus into dual 32-bit-wide channels.
The K8 had two SODIMMs, which, on the AMD Ryzen 8845HS, translated into four 32-bit channels, increasing the total bandwidth bus to 128 bits.
Conversely, the AuBox had a single SODIMM providing dual channel with 32-bits per channel, or 64-bit wide memory.
To prove this assertion, I took two 16GB DDR5 modules out of another Mini PC and swapped them for the single 16GB in the AuBox. The alternative memory was actually slower at 4800MHz than the 5600MHz original module.
The difference was spectacular. Where the Wildlife score was 10,604 with a single module, it leapt to 16,986 with two slower modules. That’s nearly a 70% improvement.
I made no other changes, and the only conclusion to make is that with a single stick of memory, the AuBox 8845 is a shadow of what it can be with two.
The other notable result in these tests is the SSD speeds, where the AirDisk 512GB module was much slower than the 1TB SSD in the K8. For whatever reason, I didn’t note the SSD module in the K8, but looking at the numbers, I can confidently say that the AirDisk NVMe is only a Gen 3, and the K8 had a Gen 4.
Maybe it was important for Chuwi to hit the price point it wanted, but it’s another thing about this machine I’d be tempted to swap before deployment.
These two choices make for a slightly odd conclusion. The AuBox 8745 could be a powerful platform if it hadn’t been undermined in the factory with a slow NVMe drive and only one memory module.
It’s easy enough to fix both these issues with a modest extra spend, but it would have been better if Chuwi had offered a SKU that better balanced price and performance.

Chuwi AuBox 8745: Final verdict
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a computer that was so well designed, built around an excellent platform and had the potential to deliver such a good user experience.
It is a shame that Chuwi then took such a solid foundation and let a couple of extremely poor choices entirely mess it up.
Clearly, the person who said that 16GB of memory in a single SODIMM had no idea of the implications of that choice, or didn’t care. The choice of the Gen 3 NVMe drive is also completely cost-driven, though less disastrous.
The AuBox 8745 is an excellent mini PC that, with the addition of a $40 SODIMM and a $35 NVMe, can compete with much more costly machines. Thankfully, it’s easy to upgrade, but it might have been better if Chuwi had asked a little more and pre-installed suitable storage and memory in the factory.

Sisters call for alarms in cars
BBC
Rebecca Barnard (left) and Lucy Barnard said losing their brother was the “hardest thing” they had ever faced
The sisters of a man who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in his car are campaigning for it to be a legal requirement for detectors to be fitted in *** vehicles.
Michael Barnard, 36, from Barrow, was found dead in August 2023 after he had been listening to music with the engine running and the gas had leaked from a hole in the exhaust.
Lucy and Rebecca Barnard are trying to raise awareness of what they call the “silent killer”.
Lucy Barnard said losing her brother was “one of the hardest things” she had faced.
More than 500 people have signed a petition set up by the sisters to alert people to the dangers of the gas, which kills about 60 people in the *** every year.
Miss Barnard said: “When my brother went for a drive that night he didn’t know his car would take his life and he died alone and that is something as a family we will never be able to come to terms with.
“In the *** cars are not legally required to carry carbon monoxide detectors and I want to change that.”
Carbon monoxide has no smell or colour and can cause serious illness, or death, if inhaled.

Michael Barnard died in his car of carbon monoxide poisoning due to a leaking exhaust
Car exhausts are checked for the level of carbon monoxide emissions during an MOT.
President of the charity CO-Gas Safety, Stephanie Trotter, has called for it to be a legal requirement for exhausts to be checked for leaks at the same time.
Lucy Barnard said, in the four months prior to her brother’s death, he had driven 10,000 miles.
“The grief I have carried with me since the morning of 17 August is something I never want anyone to have to endure,” she said.
“My brother was driving his car for weeks upon weeks unbeknown to him that his body was slowly being poisoned with a very deadly silent killer.”
Rebecca Barnard said, when she received the news her brother had died, she was eight months pregnant.
“It hit me very hard and I struggled,” she said.
“My brother didn’t get the opportunity to become a dad or have a family and that’s something he really wanted in life.”
“Even if this campaign saves one life we would be happy,” her sister added.

Elgato Stream Deck Neo Review: As plug-‘n-play as a Stream Deck gets
Elgato Stream Deck Neo Review: As plug-‘n-play as a Stream Deck gets
Why you can trust Tom’s Hardware
Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.
Stream Decks — or other customizable macro pads / controllers, such as the Loupedeck Live S — are incredibly powerful tools, if you take the time and effort to set them up for your specific needs. Unfortunately, this is a pretty daunting task — especially if you’re not even sure what you need.
Elgato is trying to make the introduction to stream decks simpler and less intimidating with its Stream Deck Neo — the stream deck part of its budget-friendly, plug-‘n-play, sustainably-packaged Neo line of streaming gear. The Stream Deck neo is a small, customizable stream deck with eight tactile LCD keys, an info bar, and two touch-sensitive buttons for scrolling through pages of said LCD keys.
It’s designed to be as plug-‘n-play as possible: it comes with a built-in stand and cable, it’s preloaded with handy actions, links, and tutorials, and it’s priced… sort of in the budget range, at $99.99. That’s not exactly what I’d call budget, but it does make it the second-cheapest stream deck you can pick up, after the $60 Stream Deck Mini.
One thing that always makes a Stream Deck more versatile is a mix of input types — tactile buttons, touch buttons, knobs, dials, swipes, etc. But while the Stream Deck Neo does have both tactile and touch-sensitive buttons, the touch-sensitive buttons are, confusingly, not customizable — they’re for scrolling through pages of LCD keys, and that’s it. The Stream Deck Neo is impressively beginner-friendly for a stream deck (thanks mostly to Elgato’s effort to make it so, not the hardware itself, however), and it is a good entry-level option. But it would be a great entry-level option if you could actually customize most of it.
Elgato Stream Deck Neo at Amazon for $79.99
Design of the Stream Deck Neo
The Stream Deck Neo is a small, white rectangular stream deck with rounded edges, a built-in stand, and a non-detachable braided USB-C cable. It’s one of the smaller Stream Decks you can get, measuring 4.2 inches (107mm) wide by 3.1 inches (78mm) deep, and Elgato lists it as being 1 inch (26mm) high, but that’s only when it’s lying flat. It features a built-in stand with two positions.
Image 1 of 2
The Neo comes with everything built-in — the stand, the cable… the software. The braided, white USB-C cable is around 3 feet (90cm) long, which is a little too short for a device that’s supposed to be plugged directly into your PC and not into a USB hub, but at the same time it’s also a USB-C cable so you might just end up getting a USB extension cord, anyway.
The back of the Neo does feature a channel for the cable so it doesn’t interfere with the stand (or something); this does little in terms of cable management other than ensure the cable sticks awkwardly out of the back of the device. However, this does make it so that you can use the Neo lying flat, without the stand, which I suppose is probably the point.

The Neo is one of the smaller stream decks you can get, measuring 4.2 inches (107mm) wide by 3.1 inches (78mm) deep, and Elgato lists it as being 1 inch (26mm) high, but that’s only when it’s lying flat. It features a built-in stand with two positions — the lower position puts the deck at 2.5 inches (63.5mm) tall, while the higher position puts it at just under 3 inches (76.2mm). The Neo isn’t much ******* than the Stream Deck Mini — the smallest stream deck you can get — which measures 3.3 x 2.4 x 2.3 inches (84 x 60 x 58mm) and has six keys. It’s a little smaller than the Stream Deck MK.2, which measures 4.6 x 3.3 x 1 inches (118 x 84 x 25mm) without the stand and has 15 keys.
The Neo is also fairly lightweight, weighing just 7.41 ounces (210g), not that other stream decks are heavy — the MK.2 weighs 5.11 ounces (145g) without the stand, but weighs 9.52 ounces (270g) with it. The Neo’s built-in stand is convenient — it folds up flat and would make a great little travel accessory for someone who needs the functionality of a stream deck when they’re traveling.
The Neo is a bit sleeker-looking than other stream decks, not just because it’s white — but it is white, designed to fit in with the rest of Elgato’s budget-friendly streaming line of peripherals, which include the Elgato Wave Neo microphone we reviewed a couple of months ago. The Neo has a slightly concave face and rounded corners, and while it’s not actually much thinner than other stream decks (the MK.2 is one inch thick without its stand — the same as the Neo when it’s folded flat), these little details make it look smaller and sleeker. (To be fair, the stream deck lineup has mostly been blocky ****** plastic, so almost anything looks smaller and sleeker.)

All you’ll find in the box is the Stream Deck Neo with its built-in stand and built-in USB-C cable.
The Neo comes with a protective plastic cover on the bottom; at first I thought this was because the Neo had a microsuction pad to help it stick to your desk, like the Razer Stream Controller X, but it appears to be normal, non-microsuction anti-slip material. It didn’t really stick very well to my desk, but it also didn’t move too much as long as I wasn’t jabbing it at an angle. (Plus, the non-microsuction bottom meant that I could at least move it around easily.)

Buttons on the Stream Deck Neo
The Stream Deck Neo has eight LCD keys: each of which measures approximately 0.5 x 0.5 inches (12.7 x 12.7mm) and is highly customizable depending on what you’re doing at any given moment. The keys are tactile and made of glossy, clear plastic. They feel like the LCD keys on other stream decks we’ve tested — tactile, yes, but a little mushy. Still, they’re more tactile than the keys on the Loupedeck Live S or the Logitech MX Creative Console, and tactility is important when you’re streaming and pressing without looking.
Underneath the LCD keys, there’s a small info bar (248 x 58 pixels) that displays the date and time, which is flanked by two touch-sensitive “buttons” for scrolling through pages of LCD keys. The info bar is slightly customizable — you can either have it display the date/time, or you can have it display a page indicator, but that’s it (there are, however, several different date/time and page indicator designs to choose from). The touch buttons are not customizable — their only purpose is to scroll through pages of LCD buttons.
The LCD keys are bright and colorful, and can display icons, text, and images — including GIFs (in case you need more tiny, gif-displaying screens positioned around your desk top). The LCD keys can also show real-time stats or updates, such as the weather, your current CPU usage, an audio meter, how many Twitch followers you have, etc.
Software of the Stream Deck Neo
A stream deck is only as good as its software — and stream deck software is only as good as its integrated plugins and apps. Elgato might just have the most robust stream deck ecosystem and marketplace at the moment — the Neo integrates with all of Elgato’s other products, which include webcams, capture cards, mics, and lights, while Elgato’s marketplace offers plugins for social/streaming platforms (Twitch, YouTube, Discord, OBS, Streamlabs, etc.), smart home and lifestyle tech, other streaming devices, and various PC/system controllers.
Of course, sorting through Elgato’s marketplace to find the plugins and controllers you need for your specific workflow takes some time — and Elgato’s Neo line is designed to be as plug-‘n-play as possible. So, when you first plugin the Stream Deck Neo, there are already a couple of screens of buttons set up for you to give you an idea of what you can do with a stream deck. The buttons include a “Tutorials” folder, which takes you various stream deck setup videos. It’s pretty basic, but it’s surprisingly useful — and much less intimidating than a stream deck full of blank buttons.
In addition to plugins and hardware/software integrations, the Elgato marketplace also features a number of resources, including pre-made profiles for different types of creators, as well as for specific programs and games.
Elgato has uploaded several Neo-specific profiles (e..g “Play,” “Work,” “Stream,” “Control Neo,” etc), for a more curated plug-‘n-play experience — I’m not sure a stream deck can really be plug-‘n-play, but Elgato has definitely gone out of its way to make the Stream Deck Neo as beginner-friendly as possible.
Tom’s Hardware Editor-in-Chief Avram Piltch also tried out the Stream Deck Neo and found customizing both simple and powerful. He assigned the eight keys to web tools and apps he opens every day, including Google Drive, Gmail, our editorial calendar, Photoshop Elements and Slack.
The Bottom Line
The Stream Deck Neo is surprisingly accessible — Elgato has gone out of its way to try to demonstrate just how useful a stream deck can be, no matter what you’re doing on your PC, but you’ll still need to spend some time customizing and getting to know the Neo if you’re serious about using it. It’s an attractive, sturdily-built customizable controller with bright, colorful, tactile LCD keys, and it doesn’t take up too much space on your desk — but it does cost $100, which is a lot if you’re not sure what you’ll use it for.
As for your other options: the Stream Deck Mini has dropped from its original $100 price to $60, but it only has six keys — two of which will need to act as navigation keys if you have more than one “page” of buttons. The Stream Deck MK.2 has 15 tactile LCD keys and that’s it — no info bar or touch buttons. But the Neo’s info bar and touch buttons are largely uncustomizable (though, I suppose, this could be changed with a firmware update), so they don’t really count. The MK.2 retails for $150 but can often be found for under $130 (and close to $100 around holidays). The Stream Deck Neo is a pretty good option for an entry-level stream deck / macro pad, but it would be a much better option if the info bar and touch buttons were customizable.

Foreign tourist boycott begins, as businesses brace for impact
Foreign tourist boycott begins, as businesses brace for impact
Kaia Matheny (left) and Nora Lamphiear (right), co-owners of Adrift Restaurant in Anacortes, Washington.
Kaia Matheny.
Anacortes, a small coastal town in Washington state, typically bustles with tourists during the summer months.
But local business owners like Kaia Matheny are bracing for less foot traffic — and a financial hit — this year as tensions around trade and concerns about immigration policy push foreigners to reconsider the U.S. as a travel destination.
Matheny is the co-owner of Adrift Restaurant, a nautical themed farm-to-table eatery in downtown Anacortes. The town, a gateway to the San Juan islands, is a two-hour drive south of Vancouver.
She’s seen sales fall amid fewer customers from Canada, which is generally the U.S.’ top source of international visitors. Air and land arrivals from Canadians fell 14% and 32%, respectively, in March compared to the same time in 2024, according to Tourism Economics.
A sharp decline in foot traffic among foreign tourists looks set to persist through summer, data shows. Matheny is “wary” about what that will mean during peak season, which typically kicks off in June.
Tourism “won’t be what it is usually,” Matheny said. “We’ll batten down the hatches and make the best of it.”
A ‘quickly souring’ travel outlook
Tourism is a big U.S. export: Foreign visitors spent more than $180 billion here in 2024, more than all agricultural exports combined, said Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association.
However, international visits to the U.S. fell 12% year-over-year in March, according to Oxford Economics.
It’s not just Canada: Visits from Western Europe, Asia and South America — historically the U.S.’ highest-value travel markets — are also down by double-digit percentages, according to the U.S. Travel Association.
Data suggests the weakness will persist through the summer.
Air bookings for overseas summer travel to the U.S. are pacing about 10% behind the same time last year, according to Tourism Economics, which is affiliated with Oxford Economics. (These were bookings made as of March.)
Canada and Mexico are worse, data show. Summer bookings from Canada to the U.S. are down more than 30%, for example.
“Foreign visitations to the US are the largest services export in the country and the outlook is quickly souring,” Ryan Sweet, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, wrote in a research note published in May.
The loss in international tourism is expected to cost the U.S. economy $10 billion this year compared to 2024, said Adam Sacks, president of Tourism Economics. The U.S. Travel Association pegs the potential loss at an even higher $21 billion in 2025, if current travel trends continue.
“It’s alarming,” Freeman said. Many businesses and destinations “count on the international visitor, in particular.”
The tourism pullback appears to be “more a U.S. issue right now” rather than a broad global weakness in travel, since other regions are seeing positive tourism growth, said Lorraine Sileo, senior analyst and founder of Phocuswright Research, a market research firm.
Domestic tourism isn’t poised to pick up the slack — the market was slowing heading into 2025 and the “revenge travel” trend, which had propelled Americans to travel due to pent-up demand after Covid-19 lockdowns, has largely been played out, she said.
“I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom for the U.S. travel industry,” Sileo said. “But it’ll be a tough year.”
Travelers have ‘a great deal of fear’

Many factors underpin the decline in international visitors, travel experts said.
For one, President Donald Trump has announced several rounds of tariffs, sparking fears of a global trade war and raising the average import duties to the highest level since the early 1900s.
Trade wars are “intrinsically combative” with the international community, Sacks said.
In early April, China issued a risk alert for tourists heading to the U.S., citing deteriorating economic relations and domestic security. Several European nations also recently issued U.S. travel advisories, citing reasons such as heightened border security and potential issues around travel documents.
More from Personal Finance: There are ‘workarounds’ to the REAL ID, experts say Where young adults are most likely to live with parents 4 big ways to save on your next trip
Trump has also drawn the ire of ********* citizens and lawmakers through repeated suggestions that Canada become the 51st U.S. state, experts said. Likewise for Greenland, which is part of Denmark.
“Now is also the time to choose Canada,” former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said during a speech in February. “It might mean changing your summer vacation plans to stay here in Canada and explore the many national and provincial parks, historical sites and tourist destinations our great country has to offer,” he added.
Searches conducted in March and April from Canadians for travel to the U.S. dropped 50% from 2024, according to Beyond, a data provider on the global short-term rental market.
“We saw a nearly immediate drop in ********* search activity after the tariff news broke back in February,” Julie Brinkman, CEO of Beyond, wrote in an e-mail. “While interest in the U.S. dropped, Mexico saw a 35% increase in searches. That tells us travelers aren’t canceling trips — they’re choosing new destinations.”
Anecdotes on social media support that notion.
“Proud to say we’ve cancelled 3 US based cruises over the next 2 years and instead will be vacationing in Europe and Canada,” one Reddit commenter wrote recently.
Growing concern tied to U.S. immigration policy is perhaps the most consequential development in recent months, experts said.
“Whether fair or not, a perception is taking hold that more people are being detained, more devices [are] being searched and legal travelers [are] being deported back to their origin country,” Freeman said. “That creates a great deal of fear.”
Business profits fall ‘sharply’ amid lost customers
Nationally, small and mid-sized business profits have already “deteriorated sharply” amid the travel slowdown, said Aaron Terrazas, an economist at Gusto, a payroll and benefits provider.
The share of “tourism” companies that are profitable fell to 32% in April 2025, down from 41% and 43% in April 2024 and 2023, respectively, according to Gusto. The category includes tour operators, condo or time-share agencies and ticket or reservation agencies.
The share of profitable “accommodation” businesses fell to 36%, down from 44% and 45%, Gusto found. The category includes small hotels and motels, guesthouses, cottages and cabins, and RV parks and campgrounds.

Slower customer traffic — and lost income — are the main culprits, rather than an increase in expenses from inflation or labor costs, Terrazas said.
The erosion in profitability and revenue is “unusually sharp and unusually sudden, particularly for a time of year when we normally start to see travel pick up,” Terrazas said. “There’s no obvious reason why domestic travel would collapse so sharply and so suddenly in a single month, whereas for international travel there are more obvious explanations.”
The longer the slowdown continues, the greater the odds businesses will be forced to make tough choices and potentially cut staff, Terrazas said.
Foreign visitations to the US are the largest services export in the country and the outlook is quickly souring.
Ryan Sweet
chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics
Financial losses come at a time when the U.S. hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic levels of travel, further pressuring businesses that rely on tourism, Freeman said. The U.S. welcomed 72 million foreign visitors in 2024, shy of the 78 million in 2019, he said.
While non-residents account for less than 10% of all U.S. tourism demand, they are far more “lucrative” spenders, Freeman said.
The average overseas visitor spends more than $4,000 per person per visit, eight times more than the average American tourist spends domestically, Freeman said. The average ********* and ******** tourist spends $1,200 per visit.
‘It’s a community impact’
Less foreign travel will have a disproportionate impact on certain areas.
Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Miami; New York; Orlando, Florida; and San Francisco, for example, account for the largest share of foreign tourists, said Sweet of Oxford Economics.
While New York has a large, diverse economy that can likely absorb a tourism loss without going into recession, the same probably isn’t true of places like Las Vegas or Honolulu, he said.
Tourists take photos near the Las Vegas strip.

“These economies are very, very sensitive to tourism,” said Sweet. “This is their main economic driver.”
So far, Matheny, the co-owner of Adrift Restaurant, has seen monthly sales fall 4% relative to last year — not a “huge” decrease, but a “noticeable” one, she said.
The restaurant has had to cut its buying by an equivalent amount, she said. That in turn hurts the local economy in Anacortes, since the restaurant sources the bulk of its food from local farms and fisheries — hurting their bottom lines, too, said Matheny.
“It’s a community impact,” she said.

This Chicago man did something wild when alleged squatters wouldn’t leave his home — he moved in with them
This Chicago man did something wild when alleged squatters wouldn’t leave his home — he moved in with them
When Marco Velazquez, a Chicago homeowner, discovered squatters living in his South Side property, he didn’t leave. Instead, he stayed the night.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Velazquez told ABC 7 News, after finding the home he was preparing to sell was already occupied. “It was like a nightmare.”
Don’t missWhat went down
The intruders, a woman named Shermaine Powell-Gillard and her boyfriend, Codarro, claimed they had purchased the property and even produced a mortgage document for police. But when Velazquez checked with Cook County officials, no such mortgage was on record.
To his shock, the police couldn’t help.
“The worst thing happened when police told me they couldn’t do anything. It needs to go to a civil court,” he said, indicating that Illinois law prevented officers from removing the pair without a court order, despite Velazquez holding the deed.
Determined not to let go of his home, Velazquez made an unusual choice.
“I said, ‘I’m not going to leave.’ Called a couple friends, stayed overnight and I knew they were not going to like that,” he told ABC 7’s I Team.
He, his wife and some friends camped out in the living room while the alleged squatters took one of the bedrooms.
“We stayed a whole night with them … watching the door,” Velazquez recalled.
The next morning, Velazquez was given an ultimatum.
“They were like, we want $8,000 of what we paid, so we can leave your property,” he said.
Though reluctant, Velazquez eventually negotiated a cash-for-key deal. He paid the couple $4,300 in exchange for their leaving and signing a release, as he feared what might happen otherwise.
“We didn’t want to give them money, but we heard really bad stories about squatters taking over properties for six, eight, 10 months, even a year,” he said.
Weeks later, a police detective told Velazquez that Powell-Gillard had also allegedly squatted in another home owned by Marcia and Carlton Lee. In that case, Powell-Gillard was arrested and charged with burglary, forgery, obstructing identification and criminal residential trespassing.
Powell-Gillard has denied all accusations, stating that claims she is a squatter are “false and unfounded,” and emphasized that she is “innocent until proven guilty,” says ABC 7.
The Chicago Police Department has not confirmed if they’re investigating Velazquez’s case. No one has been arrested or charged.
Read more: BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has an important message for the next wave of American retirees — here’s how he says you can best weather the US retirement crisis
Why police can’t always act — even when it’s your house
Velazquez’s case underscores a broader legal issue: why property disputes involving squatters often fall under civil — not criminal — law.
In Illinois and many other states, once someone establishes “possession” of a home, even wrongfully, it can be difficult to distinguish them from a legal tenant. That means a legal eviction process must occur before law enforcement can step in.
Under the current Illinois law, police often need clear evidence of criminal behavior, like a break-in or vandalism, to act. Like in Velazquez’s case, if the squatter presents a lease, mortgage, utility bills or other documents — whether forged or not — police typically don’t have the authority to assess authenticity on the spot.
Instead, the dispute moves to civil court, where a judge can determine rightful ownership.
But this may not be the case for much longer. ABC 7 reports that Senate Bill 1563 is working toward allowing police to remove squatters and skip the eviction process. The bill still has to be passed by the full Illinois House and would then be sent to the governor’s desk for final approval.

These stocks, including Microsoft, just entered overbought territory
A few stocks that saw meaningful gains in an otherwise rough week could be due for sharp declines. The market notched its first losing week in three on Friday, with the S & P 500 finishing the five-day ******* with a 0.5% loss. The Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average also fell on the week, slipping 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. The week’s losses came as investors waited for clarity on potential trade deals between the U.S. and its trading partners, especially China, given that the two countries are set to meet on the matter this weekend. That follows President Donald Trump unveiling a trade deal with the United Kingdom on Thursday, which helped to boost sentiment. Using the CNBC Pro stock screener tool , we identified the most overbought and oversold stocks on Wall Street by weighing their 14-day relative strength index, or RSI. An RSI above 70 signals that a stock might be overbought and could be due for a tumble. An RSI below 30, meanwhile, suggests that a name could be oversold and experience a move to the upside. Microsoft was among the most overbought names this week, having an RSI of 70.2. The “Magnificent Seven” name also made the list of Wall Street’s most overbought names for the week before after gaining 11% in that ******* following its latest earnings and revenue beat as well as its upbeat outlook. The stock advanced nearly 1% this week. Shares are outperforming the S & P 500 in 2025, up 4% while the broad market index is down nearly 4%. Microsoft is well-liked on Wall Street, with most analysts rating it a buy or strong buy, and consensus price targets calling for more than 14% upside, per LSEG. Rockwell Automation , which soared more than 16% this week, was another name in the overbought category. That stock had an RSI of 71.2, and its average target of almost $300 implies only limited upside potential of 1.7%. On Wednesday, shares of the automation company jumped nearly 12% after it reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the fiscal second quarter. The company also raised its full-year earnings guidance. Fertilizer producer Mosaic and HR and payroll software provider Paycom Software were two other overbought stocks this week, seeing an RSI of more than 70 for both. Mosaic gained more than 7% over the past week, while Paycom climbed more than 11% in the *******. In the health and science space, biotechnology stock Vertex Pharmaceuticals and insurer UnitedHealth Group made the list of oversold stocks. Vertex had an RSI of 28, while UnitedHealth had a 26.7 RSI. Vertex shares plunged more than 15% this week following its disappointing quarterly results . Shares are up more than 5% in 2025, but the stock has hit a rough patch in recent months, falling almost 18% in the past six. UnitedHealth, on the other hand, shed almost 5% this week, bringing its year-to-date losses to nearly 25%. It has also slid more than 34% in the past month amid the company slashing its annual profit forecast .

European leaders call Trump to discuss 30-day Russia-Ukraine ceasefire
European leaders call Trump to discuss 30-day Russia-Ukraine ceasefire
European leaders have called US President Donald Trump to discuss proposals for a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine from Monday while on a visit to Kyiv.
The call came after leaders of the so-called “coalition of the willing” held a meeting to discuss advancing peace talks.
The leaders of France, Germany, the *** and Poland were hosted in person by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, while others joined remotely.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the coalition backed a “full and unconditional” ceasefire – originally mooted by Trump – and that the EU was ready to “impose further biting sanctions” if it was broken.
The presence of *** Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish PM Donald Tusk and new ******* Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Ukrainian capital was a symbolic response to the more than 20 leaders who joined Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Friday.
In a joint statement ahead of the visit, they said they “will stand in Kyiv in solidarity with Ukraine against Russia’s barbaric and ******** full-scale invasion”.
The leaders added: “Alongside the US, we call on Russia to agree a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire to create the space for talks on a just and lasting peace.”
A 30-hour ceasefire, unilaterally called by Putin to mark Russia’s Victory Day, is due to end on Saturday. It has seen a decrease in fighting but both sides have accused the other of breaches.
The “coalition of the willing” was formed to reinforce any eventual peace agreement with security guarantees, including the possibility of placing troops in Ukraine.
Trump earlier reiterated the call for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire after a phone call with Zelensky.
“If the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose further sanctions,” he wrote on social media.
As the meeting was going on, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was already “used to sanctions” and knew how to minimise their impact, adding: “There is no point in trying to scare us with these sanctions.”
Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and now deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, told the European allies to “shove these peace plans”.
Other leaders who joined the meeting remotely included Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, ********* PM Mark Carney, von der Leyen, and Mark Rutte, the secretary-general of Nato.
Reports of Russian attacks across Ukraine continue, despite Russia’s claims of a temporary ceasefire.
In northern Sumy region, an 85-year-old woman was killed, three others were injured, 19 residential homes and 10 other buildings were destroyed or damaged, Ukrainian police said.
In Kostyantynivka, eastern Donetsk region, one person was injured and two apartment blocks caught fire after Russian attacks, Ukrainian state emergency service DSNS said.
And in the southern city of Kherson, a 58-year-old local resident sought medical help after being attacked by a Russian drone carrying explosives, the regional administration said.

3 ways to create value
Company: Charles River Laboratories (CRL)
Business: Charles River Laboratories is an early-stage contract research company. The company engages in laboratory animal medicine and science (research model technologies), and it has developed a portfolio of discovery and safety assessment services. The company operates in three segments: Research Models and Services (RMS), Discovery and Safety Assessment (DSA), and Manufacturing Support (Manufacturing).
Stock Market Value: $6.82B ($138.79 per share)
Activist: Elliott Investment Management
Ownership: 12.5%+
Average Cost: n/a
Activist Commentary: Elliott is a very successful and astute activist investor. The firm’s team includes analysts from leading tech private equity firms, engineers, operating partners – former technology CEOs and COOs. When evaluating an investment, Elliott also hires specialty and general management consultants, expert cost analysts and industry specialists. The firm often watches companies for many years before investing and has an extensive stable of impressive board candidates. Elliott has historically focused on strategic activism in the technology sector and has been very successful with that strategy. However, over the past several years Elliott’s activism group has grown, and the firm has been doing a lot more governance-oriented activism and creating value from a board level at a much larger breadth of companies.
What’s happening
On May 6, Elliott and Charles River Laboratories entered into a cooperation agreement in which four incumbent directors won’t seek re-election and the following four individuals will be appointed as directors: Steven Barg (global head of engagement at Elliott) and Mark Enyedy (former president and CEO of ImmunoGen) (both are known as the “investor designated directors”), along with Paul Graves (CEO of Rio Tinto Lithium) and Abraham Ceesay (CEO of Rapport Therapeutics). Additionally, Charles River agreed to appoint at least one investor designated director to each of the strategic committee, the compensation committee, and the corporate governance and nominating committee. Finally, Charles River agreed that the strategic committee will conduct a strategic review, during which the investor designated directors will be appointed to the strategic committee.
Behind the scenes
Charles River is involved in supporting early-stage drug research and development. The company discovers its own drug candidates, determines whether they have potential to be effective and whether they’re safe enough for human trials. Charles River operates through three segments: Research Models and Services (20.48% of revenue), Discovery and Safety Assessment (60.52%), and Manufacturing Solutions (19.00%). Charles River is by far the leader in pre-clinical development, with each segment of its business occupying 35% to upward of 40% market share, which is generally twice the size of the No. 2 player. The business has grown organically for years while they have simultaneously consolidated the industry through accretive and smart mergers and acquisitions. These major growth trends continued through Covid-19, which, like it did for many peers, supercharged the business as funding flooded in fueled by a growing interest in investing in new and novel science. As a result, Charles River traded as high as $460 per share in the fall of 2021.
Since then, challenges have begun to emerge. Post-pandemic, there was a pullback in pre-clinical research demand. While this pullback was more of a normalization, it still decreased the amount of funding flowing in and caused large pharma companies to reevaluate and reprioritize their pipelines, which weighed on Charles River and the sector broadly. The second challenge has been the current headlines coming out of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the current administration regarding the future of animal testing. Charles River’s business in part relies on animal testing and this momentum away from that has weighed on the share price. Because of these factors, the company’s shares have slumped, down 50.95%, 52.30% and 19.66% over the past 1-,3- and 5-year periods, respectively.
Amid these headwinds, Elliott Investment Management has entered into a cooperation agreement with Charles River pursuant to which the company agreed to appoint four directors following the 2025 annual meeting on May 20, including Steven Barg, the global head of engagement at Elliott. Additionally, the company agreed to initiate a strategic review. This is an exceptionally high-quality business and, as a result, there are numerous paths to shareholder value. The first does not involve operations, capital allocation, governance or any other direct function of Charles River: It is a simple reconciliation of value. The market has likely overreacted to the company’s challenges, specifically regarding the uncertainty around animal testing. While the scrutiny the industry is facing is real, it has been real for decades. But despite what headlines may imply, this transition away from animal testing is not happening overnight, rather it is going to continue to be a gradual process over decades. Not only has Charles River been aware of this shift, but it has also been at the forefront of developing alternative methods. Over the last 10 years, the number of basic mice Charles River uses in testing has been cut in half. With Charles River remaining the industry’s one-stop shop for preclinical research, leading in both animal-based and alternative solutions, this should not have the effect on them that recent market reactions have suggested.
Beyond this natural recovery, there are many ways to create value through the strategic review process, which seems like a focus for Elliott given the term of the settlement. First, an evaluation of the Manufacturing Solutions business. This segment is a hidden gem: an exceptionally high-quality business with low capital intensity that has grown revenue organically by over 10% annually for 20 years. However, it’s quite different from the core preclinical business as it’s primarily exposed to commercial manufacturing. As a result, while a consistently strong asset, Manufacturing Solutions has been out of focus for both Charles River and the market. This is exactly the type of business larger life sciences companies like Thermo Fisher, Denna and KGA would want to acquire and could fetch, at minimum, a transaction multiple in the high teens, but could likely be north of 20-times earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization given the clear cost and commercial synergies for a strategic acquirer. A ***** at these levels would imply a valuation for Manufacturing Solutions at approximately half of Charles River’s current market cap, despite only representing 20% of the company’s earning power. If there were a ***** of Manufacturing Solutions, it would leave behind the core preclinical business, which is in the early innings of a natural recovery and remains the clear market leader. A ***** of Manufacturing Solutions at these levels would imply an approximately 5-times valuation for the remaining business, which should eventually re-rate to higher peer multiples. Proceeds from the ***** could then be used to continue buying back shares at these levels and potential investments in the core business.
This brings us to the second opportunity to create value through a strategic review: the acquisition of smaller competitors. Management has historically done a great job of conducting value-accretive M&A, such as the acquisitions of Explora BioLabs and ChanTest. Moreover, the fact that Barg is going on the board is an indicator to us that strategic acquisitions will be explored. Elliott does not put one of its principals on boards unless the firm believes he or she has a relevant skillset that an independent candidate does not have. While Barg has various skills and experiences, including board representation at pharma companies like Cardinal Health and Catalent, having access to him and the Elliott team to evaluate potential acquisitions with an eye toward shareholder value is one of the largest benefits of having a hedge fund investor on the board.
Lastly, the board could explore a ***** of the whole company. While this is likely not the main goal, it should not be ruled out given the business’ quality and strategic value. There is arguably no single business more mission critical to drug development globally than Charles River, having its hand in over 80% of new drugs that were approved by the FDA in the last five years, working with every large pharma company and almost every large biotech company. This reach and control make Charles River an extremely valuable strategic asset. Moreover, the company’s high cash flow generation and depreciated share price also makes it appealing to potential financial acquirers. As we have seen before, one of those financial acquirers could be Elliott. The firm is already the company’s largest shareholder with at least a 12.5% economic ownership, and it has a private equity arm that has acquired companies like this before. In fact, Elliott, along with Patient Square Capital and Veritas Capital, acquired Syneos Health in 2023. This is not a primary thesis for them, but it is a powerful and enviable tool for an activist to have the capability to acquire the company if changes are not made in the public market.
Ken Squire is the founder and president of 13D Monitor, an institutional research service on shareholder activism, and the founder and portfolio manager of the 13D Activist Fund, a mutual fund that invests in a portfolio of activist 13D investments.

Suns defy Dogs late surge to remain kings of the north
Suns defy Dogs late surge to remain kings of the north
Gold Coast have survived an improbable late Western Bulldogs charge to continue their Darwin dominance with a 10-point AFL victory.
The Suns led by 28 points midway through the final term and were seemingly home with the Bulldogs losing their legs in the Northern Territory heat.
But the Dogs kicked four goals in seven minutes to trail by just three points, with nearly four minutes left to find the winner.
Scrambling efforts across the park saved the Suns in a 15.16 (106) to 14.12 (96) victory that moves them to 6-2 and back into the AFL’s top four.
Prized recruit Daniel Rioli (24 disposals) shone in his homecoming game, kicking an early running goal from 50 metres and then terrorising the Bulldogs with his run and carry through the middle of the ground.
The midfield battle was crucial, goals often coming straight from clearances as Tom Liberatore (35 disposals, 10 clearances), Ed Richards and Marcus Bontempelli waged war with Matt Rowell, Touk Miller and Noah Anderson (28 and seven).
Richards levelled the contest early in the third term and a miss from point-blank from Aaron Naughton put the Bulldogs ahead by one point.
Rowell led the Suns’ rally though, nailing a curling shot for goal and winning important ball as Ben Long, Sam Flanders, Ben King and Sam Clohesy all booted majors to build a match-high 22-point lead at the final break.
Nick Holman’s goal to begin the fourth term provided some breathing space, the Bulldogs (sixth, 5-4) running out of gas in the heat as John Noble capped a fine game with what felt like the match-sealer.
But Sam Davidson kicked two in a hurry and Bontempelli was there to toe another home, the momentum turning before the Suns fell over the line.
The Suns put together some early passages of brilliance and should have had more to show for it, if not for some lacklustre final options and poor shooting.
Carlton recruit Matthew Kennedy was the surprise packet up front for the Bulldogs, kicking three majors for just the third time in 127 games, all before halftime.
Mac Andrew copped an accidental flying knee to the head but was cleared to return to the game and produce some crucial second-half spoils.

Captain Blood Review: Survived the Odds but for What? – Gameffine
Captain Blood Review: Survived the Odds but for What? – Gameffine
Jay writes: “The publisher argues that while Captain Blood might rate as a 4/10 today, it would’ve scored a 7.5/10 back in the mid-2000s. But let’s be honest—even if this game had launched on its original schedule, it would’ve still been panned. Broken mechanics don’t magically become acceptable just because they’re old. As someone who values game preservation, I respect the effort to revive lost projects, but that doesn’t excuse selling a fundamentally unfinished product—especially one that may never be properly fixed. Dodge Captain Blood like your character dodges non-existent i-frames.”

Authorities arrest over 100 people on Tennessee roads in support of Trump’s deportation plan
Authorities arrest over 100 people on Tennessee roads in support of Trump’s deportation plan
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — More than 100 people have been taken into custody by federal immigration officials in a joint operation with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, leaving many in Nashville’s immigrant community uncertain and worried.
“None of us have ever seen anything like this,” Lisa Sherman Luna, executive director of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition said Friday.
The operation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a reminder of how local and state law enforcement jurisdictions are critical to President Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations. Last week, Florida officials touted a joint operation with ICE that resulted in 1,120 immigration arrests.
Tennessee’s Gov. Bill Lee recently signed a law creating a division of immigration enforcement with the state’s Department of Safety and Homeland Security, which includes the Highway Patrol. He is one of a number of Republican officials pledging to use state resources to carry out Trump’s plans.
Meanwhile, city officials in the Democratic stronghold of Nashville have disavowed involvement and been critical of the arrests. Nashville Law Director Wally Dietz said the state-federal operation, which began May 3, caught everyone in city government by surprise.
Responding to concerns about Nashville police presence outside an ICE office, Dietz said Wednesday that the city “routinely receives requests for extra patrols for a variety of reasons and responds to the extent resources are available.” He said he didn’t know who was detained and that, when he requested more information from the Highway Patrol, he was told to file a public records request.
The Highway Patrol said Friday that it made 588 stops in the joint operation with ICE, which took custody of 103 under investigation for immigration violations.
The stops “led to the recovery of ******** drugs and firearms — taking dangerous elements off the street and making Tennessee safer,” the Highway Patrol said. One person was wanted in a killing in El Salvador.
The Highway Patrol said stops are based solely on driver behavior. “We do not enter neighborhoods or stop vehicles based on who someone is — we stop based on what they do behind the wheel,” it said.
But immigrant rights supporters contend that the patrols have focused on parts of the city where the majority of residents are people of color.
“All signs point to this being racial profiling intended to terrorize the heart of the immigrant and refugee community,” Sherman Luna said. “What we’ve heard is that THP is flagging people down for things like a broken taillight or tinted windows.”
Sherman Luna believes some of those being detained would be allowed to stay in the country if they were able to receive competent legal representation at an immigration hearing. Instead, she has heard that people are agreeing to be deported out of fear that they could spend months or years in immigration detention.
About 9% of the Nashville metropolitan area population of about 2 million are immigrants, with many from Mexico and Honduras, according to the Migration Policy Institute’s analysis of census data. The city also has a large Kurdish population living alongside refugees from Sudan, Myanmar and other countries.
“It’s a strategy to strike fear into our vibrant, diverse, beautiful neighborhoods,” Sherman Luna said.

“Xbox is making better first party games“
If not as much in online communities & news invested gamers like us are seeking through the shelves for a game:
Tell me the names of the so called “Xbox 1st party games” he/she instantly connects with “Oh yeah, that’s Xbox” the same as they would know Astro Bot or Ghost of Tsushima, God of War or The Last of Us stands for Playstation 1st party games.
Please don’t tell me you personally do recognize Call of Duty, Diablo or Doom as true Xbox 1st party games or that they’d cause any of that special excitment for a system like Mario or Zelda do for a Nintendo console. Or God of War for Playstation.
I ofc know that, especially since the buyouts of Zenimax and ABK, hardcore fans in the Xbox community have been putting a load of effort into the sentiment of selling Call of Duty, Doom and such as “Woah, Xbox Game Studios are killing it!”
But most of us (=who are invested) know that Microsoft didn’t create ANY of these games originally.
But instead use their reputation and prior successes.
And, quite frankly, bought them only to feed GP with content. (Imagine what it’d had cost them to put CoD into GP day-one if ABK had not been bought. Or Starfield.)
A simple mind game for 1, maybe 2 seconds only:
Imagine their own software lineup for the Series generation if the takeovers of Zenimax and ActivisionBlizzardKing would have gotten denied/would have failed.
Then, ONLY then you can tell what Microsoft had truly been trying to kill, and that’s Xbox itself.

Argentina could be primed for big gains ahead. How to play the historically volatile market
Argentina could be primed for big gains ahead. How to play the historically volatile market
It might be time for investors to take a closer look at Argentina. The Global X MSCI Argentina ETF (ARGT) is up more than 8% this year, outpacing the S & P 500 . The Merval index , Argentina’s benchmark index, is down 17% in 2025 but remains more than 47% higher over the past 12 months, outpacing most other global markets. For years, foreign investors have treaded carefully when it comes to Argentine stocks, as economic and political turmoil ignited wild swings. But as President Javier Milei lifts stringent capital controls , the sun could shine bright on this market. “We have a downbeat to neutral view on emerging markets equities, currencies and bonds. That includes India, Brazil, China and central Europe,” BCA Research emerging markets strategist Juan Egana told CNBC. “The only country that we actually have a bullish view on in absolute terms is Argentina.” ARGT .SPX YTD mountain SPX vs ARGT in 2025 The hope is that easing capital controls will lead to an influx of foreign investors putting money into the Argentine market. That move last month came as the country secured $20 billion in funding from the International Monetary Fund over four years; $12 billion of those were disbursed immediately . “Amid the storm of global financial uncertainty and rising economic populism, Argentina stands out as a free-market safe haven,” BCA chief emerging market strategist Arthur Budaghyan wrote in an April 22 note. It also follows the U.S. unveiling steep tariffs on imports from a slew of countries. Those duties sent global equities for a wild ride, with markets rising on the smallest sign of progress or falling on the most minute setback. But Diego Pereira, chief economist for South America at JPMorgan, said the Milei administration’s ideological similarities with the Trump White House could bring the countries closer — ultimately benefiting Argentina. Milei’s views on trade aligns with Trump’s rhetoric on tariffs, with the Argentine president threatening to leave the South American trade bloc Mercosur if doing so meant cementing a deal with the U.S. “Argentina is [taking] a lot of steps in the right direction in a world that is getting more fragmented, in which trade may not be as relevant as it used to be,” Pereira told CNBC. BCA’s Egana also lauded Milei’s measured steps to first stabilize Argentina’s economy before moving to lift the country’s capital controls. Doing so lifted a major concern for investors, and companies, that their money would be stuck inside Argentina, he said “If you can’t get your money out, what good is that to an investor?” Egana added. How to play it Investors looking for exposure to Argentine stocks can do so through the ARGT ETF. The fund — which is weighted toward consumer discretionary companies, as well as financials and energy — has an expense ratio of 0.59%. For those looking for individual stocks to buy, MercardoLibre may suit them. About 85% of analysts polled by FactSet have a buy rating on the stock, with their consensus price targets calling for about 8% further upside. Shares have skyrocketed more than 44% in 2025. MELI YTD mountain MELI in 2025 Barclays analyst Trevor Young specifically pointed out that the company is more insulated from Trump’s tariffs compared to peers due to MercadoLibre’s focus on South America. Only a small portion of the company’s operations are based in the U.S., which leaves the firm largely able to operate fully with little interruption, he said. “We think MELI screens reasonably well vs. the peer group, as they sell entirely in Latam, and only have one Texas fulfillment center serving Mexico, such that recent US tariff changes are not an impact on the company,” Young said.
