As Stellar Blade tops 3 million sales worldwide, director Hyung-tae Kim has revealed the sequel, which has already been confirmed, will have a "serious" story. In an interview with This Is Game, via Genki, Kim admitted that the team had developed a deeper story for Eve and co., but the cost of cutscenes became too high, resulting in them having to skip a lot of the cinematics — and therefore the story itself — to get the game over the finish line. That's why we're left with so many questions about Eve's world, including an official explanation as to why she requires a costume change so often. While it seems Shift Up considered retrospectively adding in cutscenes to better explain the story, Kim was concerned that may "clash" with what players know and understand of the game thus far. Consequently, it looks like we can expect a "sufficiently rich narrative" when it comes to the sequel. We probably shouldn't expect a follow-up anytime soon, however; right now, the whole team is reportedly dedicated to the PC port. Kim did say Shift Up would "do our best" to get it out by 2027, though. The PC version of Stellar Blade only launched on June 11, but it's already Sony's biggest single-player Steam launch ever. Right now, the concurrent player peak is over 192,000. By comparison, Ghost of Tsushima topped out at 77,154 players, God of War peaked at 73,529, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered sports a peak of 66,436 players. In fact, the only Sony-published game to have a higher concurrent record than Stellar Blade is Helldivers 2, which is, of course, a multiplayer game. IGN's Stellar Blade review returned a 7/10. We said: "Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre." PC-specific features include AI upscaling via Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, an unlocked framerate, Japanese and ******** voiceover, ultrawide display support, higher resolution environment textures, and DualSense support for haptic feedback and trigger effects. A survival game lives or dies on the personality of its world. Subnautica is a wonder because its world is a wonder. Abiotic Factor is a cracking farce because its world is a lab staffed by idiots. Dune: Awakening, meanwhile, has the fortune of coming with a pre-packaged world, already built by scores of sci-fi novels and movies full of beautiful scowlers. Developers Funcom therefore have existing rules to play with, a culture and geography which is basically ready-made for a video game. It's almost cheating. Sandstorms rage, forcing you indoors. Sandworms give chase, prompting you to run or bike faster across the desert. Military ships scan the dunes at night with spotlights, and launch tough enemy patrols if you get caught. Everything here already lends itself to the kind of adventurous fantasy any hardy video gameser would like. Read more View the full article

FBC: Firebreakis the kind of game that inherently causes a little apprehension. Developed by Remedy Entertainment, it's an online co-op shooter from a studio primarily heralded for developing bespoke single-player experiences. That's not reason enough to discount it outright, and in a perfect world, Remedy's penchant for playing around with form could be just the ticket to creating a co-op shooter that stands out in a crowded market. Unfortunately, Firebreak never quite gets there. View the full article

Elden Ring Nightreign has some pretty sick gear drops. And sometimes, you might even want to let other people try out that gear, even though you want to also use them. Well, a gear duplication glitch makes it easy to share the loot, for as long as it's around. I first saw this thanks to the folks at PC Gamer, who put together a quick guide on just how to tackle the duplication. It's actually fairly simple to execute; if two players try to pick up the same weapon, at the same time, they both pick it up. So now you have the original, and a duplicate. (Don't ask which is which, it'll freak everyone out.) Not only is this fairly simple, it's easy to repeat and there isn't really a downside to "failing" it. If the pick-up gets messed up, you can just try again. In fact, the only danger is that you're basically stopping in one place and coordinating this drop-and-pick-up strategy, and in Nightreign, standing still is rarely advisable. The brief respite between days, or the alabaster alcove before the big Nightlord showdown, is probably the best time to do this. As PC Gamer noted though, they're not the first to stumble onto this trick. Various YouTubers and Reddit users have posted about the easy duplication, too. The proverbial lid is off on this particular exploit. Whether FromSoftware will take any aim at changing it is anyone's guess. It is somewhat niche-use. There's no voice chat or anything to coordinate with random players online, so it's not exactly feasible to start dropping your best equipment and hope everyone's on the same page. Even for teamed-up players using Discord or some other method to chat, you'd still want to have equipment that other characters would want. Not only is Elden Ring Nightreign fairly generous in drops, at least in my experience, but each character tends to have their own wants and needs for weaponry. Unless you're rolling three Ironeyes, I suppose. The duplication glitch is nice for characters who want to double-up on specific weapons, like the Executor, but it's not some instant-win trick. For some fun and maybe sharing the wealth around if someone didn't manage to get any solid weapons by the final day, though, it might not be the worst trick to keep in your back pocket. We’ve got plenty of Nightreign tips and tricks to help you take down all the eight Nightlord Bosses, and if you’re wondering how to unlock the two locked Nightfarer Classes, check out How to Unlock the Revenant and How to Unlock the Duchess, plus How to Change Characters. I really like the world of Promise Mascot Agency as a place, not so much the things this open world collect 'em up management sim makes me do to see more of it. I feel like I went through much trouble stealing the sticker-coated notebook of the uber-talented eccentric artist kid in class, only to find it filled with page after page of shopping lists for monstrous quantities of canned goods, each item heavier and blander than the last. Funny. Charming. And, hot dancing dog blossoms, that soundtrack. But it ultimately feels so graspy and nagging and pointlessly numerical to actually engage with. Like being hounded by push notifications, insistent as unscratched scabs. Read more View the full article

"Casino roguelike" AAA Simulator's Steam page has a demo, and also a boxout description I imagine I'd find extremely trite (in a Brewdog Punk IPA, Outer Worlds anti-capitalism-as-a-feature type way) if I hadn't already read designer Nic Vasudeva-Barkdull's much more convincing and considered thoughts on putting the game together. This is the nature of trying to sell a game in a couple of sentences, admittedly. Read more View the full article
Beta test site and small game curator Alpha Beta Gamer have put out their Games To Get Excited About 2025 showcase, and (salt to taste, granted) it's exactly what it says on the tin. 110 curated trailers in an hour and five minutes, organised and timestamped by genre, with no paid adverts and no teeth-grindingly awful skits. They've also made a point to not include any cinematic trailers, although I haven't watched the whole thing yet. They might be liars. Are you liars, Alpha Beta Gamer? Wait, don't answer that.
