After rebooting Final Fantasy 7 as the trilogy of Remake, Rebirth and Really, You Went With That? (TBC), Square Enix are now planning to reboot themselves. Among the publishers’ revamped approach to making money - following a recent drop in profits, per their latest financials - is a more “aggressive” approach to bringing their games to more platforms than specific consoles (in other words, PlayStation) as exclusives, with a particular focus on “win[ning] over PC users”. In Hades 2, Melinoe spends just as much time collecting reagents for Incantations, such as Pearls, while defying the will of the Titans. Maybe it's just romanticism and nostalgia, but I think games looked better in the late '80s and early '90s. They weren't as polished, convincing, or photorealistic, but that crisp, pixelated style was instantly recognizable - if we want to differentiate games from movies, TV, and anything else, there was a time, some forty years ago, where they had their own, inimitable aesthetic. Mixing Divinity Original Sin, from esteemed Baldur's Gate 3 maker Larian, and the formative years of Final Fantasy, a new strategy RPG looks like it was pulled directly from the golden age, and you can try it for yourself right now. In Gatekeeper, Omni Stones are the rare and strange orange orbs that can sometimes be found in your runs. Make sure to collect them so you can spend them to become more powerful. How to get Omni Stones in GatekeeperOmni Stones are the only currency to be found in Gatekeeper, and they persist through your runs. You will occasionally find them when slaying enemies, and you’ll see how many you have in the bottom right corner. After each run, on the stats panel, you’ll see how many you collected in that run. These Omni Stones are very rarely dropped from enemies. From my playtime, I’d say they have a rarity of around 1%, although it’s tough to tell if I’ve been lucky or unlucky. They will drop from enemies both in the Normal mode and Arena mode, although I only found one in Arena mode, so perhaps they’re rarer there.Screenshot: PC InvasionTo see how many Omni Stones you currently, have, visit the Emporium, where they’ll be shown a...View the full article
I’ve played enough Gatekeeper to know that it’s a good game, but also enough to never want to play the game again. Despite the buckets of content, I can’t help but feel the game wanes much quicker than the content can keep up with.Gatekeeper is as pure a roguelike as they comeIt must have been tough for Gatekeeper to come out in Early Access in the shadow of the roguelike, Hades 2, after its surprise drop. After playing both, I can say that Gatekeeper is likely one of the most “roguelike” roguelikes out there. It doesn’t really bother with plot or convoluted systems or with softlocks. You will simply begin with the task of getting as far as you can. No strings attached. Just simple fun. There are dozens of Artifacts that you’ll use to get buffs and new abilities and plenty of enemies and tough bosses.Screenshot: PC InvasionThat’s not to say Gatekeeper is without its unlock systems, however. There are seven Gatekeepers,...View the full article
Enlarge / Artist's conception of NetEase using a legal contract to try to stop a wave of negative reviews of its closed alpha. (credit: NetEase) [/url] The developers of team-based shooter Marvel Rivals have apologized for a contract clause that made creators promise not to provide "subjective negative reviews of the game" in exchange for early access to a closed alpha test. The controversial early access contract gained widespread attention over the weekend when streamer Brandon Larned shared a portion on social media. In the "non-disparagement" clause shared by Larned, creators who are provided with an early download code are asked not to "make any public statements or engage in discussions that are detrimental to the reputation of the game." In addition to the "subjective negative review" example above, the clause also specifically prohibits "making disparaging or satirical comments about any game-related material" and "engaging in malicious comparisons with competitors or belittling the gameplay or differences of Marvel Rivals." Extremely disappointed in @MarvelRivals. Multiple creators asked for key codes to gain access to the playtest and are asked to sign a contract. The contract signs away your right to negatively review the game. Many streamers have signed without reading just to play Insanity. [Hidden Content] — Brandon Larned (@A_Seagull) May 12, 2024 In a Discord post noticed by PCGamesN over the weekend, ******** developer NetEase offered an apology for what it called "inappropriate and misleading terms" in the contract. "Our stand is absolutely open for both suggestions and criticisms to improve our games, and... our mission is to make Marvel Rivals better [and] satisfy players by those constructive suggestions." This outstanding mini-ITX steampunk PC build wouldn't look out of place in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It's based on a Cooler Master NR200P mini-ITX case, but PC modder Joel Hunt has transformed it almost beyond recognition, with a leather-wrapped roof, a rusted side panel, and extensive use of wood. Thanks to our rapidly growing PC building Facebook page, we've seen many custom gaming PCs, from mods based on existing case designs to scratch builds. The weapons sandbox in Helldivers 2 constantly changes with the addition of new Warbonds and frequent balance changes. Despite all that, one ******* category seemingly doesn’t live up to its name.
