Hades 2 is developer Supergiant Games' follow-up to 2020's influential and adored roguelike Hades, and to say that expectations are high would be something of an understatement. It's hard to look at a successful roguelike in the wake of Hades and not find some of its fingerprints somewhere in the game's approach, whether it's careful attention paid to world design or an upgrade system that's adjacent to Boons from the the gods of Olympus. When I first played Paper Trail at the BitSummit indie festival in Kyoto last July, I came away impressed but concerned. It was the first game I played at the show, and what was supposed to be a quick demo ended up taking more than half an hour, because I got stuck at one particular section. Even the person stood next to me, who had been involved in the game’s development, couldn’t figure out what to do next. This wasn’t a fault of the game as such – its difficult puzzles are its calling card, after all. But my summary of the game said its central mechanic was “a pretty difficult one to get your head around”, and that “we were told that there may be a hint system put in place before release, which would be extremely helpful”. Though it may not have as much content as other popular titles, the combination of fun gameplay, immersive building, and systematic changes have propelled it. Shin Megami Tensei 5 will be removed from the Nintendo eShop on June 13, 2024 ahead of the release of expanded edition Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance. Publisher Atlus confirmed the takedown in an X/Twitter post, making clear that all digital editions of the game, including the Standard and Deluxe, as well as all downloadable content will be unavailable ahead of Vengeance, which launches June 21, 2024. Players who already own either the physical or digital versions of Shin Megami Tensei 5 will be able to continue playing after the takedown date, or redownload it if necessary. Vengeance is a revamped version of the original available across all platforms, meaning PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch, with various improvements and even additional content being added. "Forge your path through a post-apocalyptic world in this definitive version of Shin Megami Tensei 5," the official synopsis reads. "Two complete story paths await, including a brand new storyline with new locations and demons, and where your choices will determine the fate of all existence." Changes include improved gameplay systems and quality of life features, more than 40 new demons being available, and significantly different story beats in one of the two story modes playable in Vengeance. Atlus estimated each route takes around 80 hours each, meaning Vengeance offers around 160 hours of gameplay for those looking to explore both. Arrowhead Games Studios releases update 1.000.304 for Helldivers 2, which makes a number of big fixes to ongoing bugs and game crashes. It's has been a rollercoaster ride for Helldivers 2 since it launched back in February. The online co-op shooter experienced unprecedented sales, which, in turn, caused the game's servers to break down, preventing players from logging in or causing errors during gameplay. Ever since Dynasty Warriors 2 launched alongside PlayStation 2, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force have become synonymous with the one vs one thousand action formula. Dynasty Warriors, the franchise based on The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is their most famous series, but they have applied this action formula to licensed properties such as Dragon Quest Heroes along with exploring other avenues of historical fiction with their series Samurai Warriors. The games may receive some criticism for their repetitive nature, but there is something undeniably fun about hacking down hundreds or even thousands of enemies in a single stage. Intel has just released its latest Game On Driver for Intel Arc graphics, which adds official support for Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and Homeworld 3. This free download also fixes performance issues in Dragon's Dogma 2 and ***** Space. What's your most anticipated game of 2024? Frostpunk 2 is high on a lot of peoples' lists. Hollow Knight Silksong, while we don't know if it actually will come this year, is certainly one to anticipate. Personally, I have a morbid curiosity about Silent Hill 2 Remake. But one of this year's most wanted has already just launched. The return of a classic RTS game series, and genre cousin to the likes of Command and Conquer and Ages of Empires, despite the prelude and all our hopes, it's having a hard time on Steam.
