Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 has outperformed both Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 on Steam but falls short of Warzone 2.0's peak player count. Data from player tracking website SteamDB shows the Call of Duty app saw a peak concurrent player count of 306,460 in ****** Ops 6's first weekend on *****. It peaked at 263,174 during Modern Warfare 2's opening weekend in 2022 and just 190,707 for the universally panned Modern Warfare 3. Warzone 2.0 still has the best debut of a recent Call of Duty with a peak of 491,670 players, but the free to play battle royale is much more accessible than the $69.99 ****** Ops 6. This SteamDB data is the best indication of how ****** Ops 6 is performing, as neither Xbox or PlayStation release player numbers for their consoles and publisher Activision Blizzard hasn't shared any figures yet either. Further comparisons are also difficult due to Call of Duty bypassing Steam for five years between 2017 and 2022, when Activision Blizzard opted to release ****** Ops 4, Modern Warfare, ****** Ops: Cold War, and Vanguard exclusively on its own Battle.net on PC. These Steam numbers do indicate a bump in popularity though, and ****** Ops 6 has performed well critically too. Fans of single player shooters in particular are enjoying a return to form, as the Campaign earned a 9/10 in IGN's review. "An excellent string of missions that offer variety and flexibility come together to make ****** Ops 6 the best Call of Duty campaign in many, many years," we said. The launch of ****** Ops 6 is also special as it marks the first Call of Duty game to come to Xbox Game Pass on launch day. Analysts expected its release could boost the subscription service by up to four million new users, but at the cost of six million lost sales. This AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D delid picture in turn hints at a key reason why this CPU is expected to run at higher clock speeds than previous X3D models. With the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D already expected to be the best gaming CPU around when it launches, there are several reasons why it has such a weight of expectation, including it being based on AMD's latest 9000-series architecture and including an extra stack of L3 cache. I've often thought lighthouse keeping would make a fine second career, albeit mostly because in my head, it would give me endless time to write (and finish Baldur's Gate 3). You won't have much time to write in Static Dread, sadly. The world has ended, the oceans teem with unspeakable biofauna, and it's your job as the apparent sole surviving lighthouse keeper to distinguish vessels loaded with eldritch horrors from vessels loaded with people who need saving from eldritch horrors. Going by the teaser trailer, below, this appears to be comparable to playing border guard in Papers, Please, but it's less political and more tentacular. You field queries over the radio, run your finger down a clipboard, and decide whether to kindle the lamps or beg the coastguard to blast that ship back to *****. There's a dialogue line in the trailer which I, personally, would consider highly untrustworthy. "It's consuming my team!" screams a self-described ship captain. "Please, send help! Gosh..." Look, "friend", no genuine human being says "gosh" in an emergency situation. Not even British human beings say "gosh" in an emergency situation. That's what you say when somebody tells you the pizza-flavoured crisps are back on ***** at Aldis. Read more View the full article

Starfield may have stumbled when it launched, but someone with plenty of experience working with Bethesda is confident the studio's next attempt at the game will be significantly better. As is the case with many video game franchises, the sequel is generally better than the original, especially when the creative team has the right feedback and a larger budget to tweak everything that didn't work and enhance all the aspects that did. In the case of Starfield, one can only hope that the game has garnered enough support to warrant a second attempt. View the full article
