  3. The new HBO show based on the Harry Potter books looks to be linked with Hogwarts Legacy 2 in some way, and although it isn't clear what this will mean for the game, it comes across as a bit of an odd choice. The Harry Potter series is to the Wizarding World as The Lord of the Rings is to Tolkien's Mythos or as Skywalker Saga is to Star Wars. It is the main pillar of the world and the thing that most mainstream fans know, but it is also almost the only thing fans have. View the full article

The nominees for this year’s ceremony were just revealed, and a controversial entry could lead to a first for the ceremony. 19. It takes a special kind of entitled bellyacher to complain that you wanted a different game from a game that hasn't even been announced yet, and which may simply be an internet rumour. It's like the "glass half empty" mindset, but the bartender hasn't even taken your order and this might not even be a bar. Odds are you've wandered into the local antique shop. Well I, friends, am that bellyacher. Here I stand at the "bar", gesticulating wildly over my non-existent glass. In this scenario, the confused bartender/antique shop owner is Turtle Rock, developers of Left 4 ***** homage Back 4 Blood. Rumour has it that they're making a Back 4 Blood 2 - but as I loudly explain to the bartender/antique shop owner, showering the ********* measures/vintage Toby ***** in spittle, I don't want a Back 4 Blood 2. I want a follow-up to 2015's Evolve, in which four hunters team up to track down a fifth person playing as a kaiju. "A flagon of your finest Gorgon, please," I roar, thumping the bar, while Turtle Rock tries to sell me a gentleman's travelling suitcase from the 1920s. 20. Mario RPGs have become a semi-genre in themselves. There are multiple Mario RPGs out there. Some are Paper-like and some are Square-like. Other times they are XCOM-like, but for some, the best ones are AlphaDream-like. 21. XCOM 2 is one of the best games I've played, partly because of how it organically creates characterization and drama. Dialogue is sparse. Cutscenes are few. But the sheer ardor of every battle, the chaos of its turn-based, dice-roll combat, and the spontaneous moments of glory that result mean that I feel more committed to my team of blank-slate soldiers than I do to some of gaming's most defined and verbose protagonists. Combining the Firaxis formula with inspirations from Company of Heroes and Commandos, a new WW2 strategy game balances the player-driven narrative of XCOM with researched historical realism. This is Forgotten But Unbroken, and it's available right now. Read the rest of the story... View the full article
  22. Star Wars Outlaws is on the mend. Ubisoft's big open-world take on a galaxy far, far away didn't quite make the impression any of us thought it would, but that hasn't stopped the team from promising to improve the experience. 25. It’s that time once again: awards season. The Game Awards are back for its 2024 edition, and today announced all the nominees that will be vying for glory and some little golden statues.
