  1. Tina Glasson’s patience pays dividends as mum comes out of retirement to win Tina Glasson’s patience pays dividends as mum comes out of retirement to win It might have only been a 46+ rated 1920m event at York on a Thursday, but Norma Stars’ victory was a story of saint-like patience from trainer Tina Glasson as the mare recorded a long-awaited win. The name Norma is Latin for “rule” or “standard”, though there has been anything but elementary about this eight-year-old’s odyssey. Beginning her career in 2019 under Victorian trainer Greg Eurell, Norma Stars cracked her maiden at just her second start when leading throughout to score at Seymour. Given the authority of victory, the daughter of Zoustar lined up next in a Listed 1100m dash at Flemington and was beaten three and a half lengths by Wayupinthesky. No other horse from that race has been seen at the track in three years and after winning in July 2020, Norma Stars was also retired to stud duties just one run later. But after being sold once for $2,000 from Victoria to Ridgeport Farm in WA, Norma Stars was then sold for $600 to Glasson when the new owner passed away. “I bought her in the broodmare section of a Magic Millions *****. I saw a picture of her online and thought, ‘she’s had a good history, we’ll give her another crack’,” Glasson said. “She had a real nice shape about her and when I bought her, she’d had 12 starts for a couple of firsts and a couple of seconds. Camera IconNorma Stars wins at York for jockey Jason Whiting Credit: Natasha Rawluk/Natasha / Western Racepix “The foal was weaned in December, and I think she went on ***** the following September. I just put her straight into work as soon as I got her. “She was still only young, but I had trouble with Racing Australia, and it looked like I wouldn’t be able to race her. I had to get permission from the daughter of the previous owner.” The resultant offspring of Norma Stars is now under the care of local trainer Kayla Farrell and has had one educational preparation. On Thursday and almost five years since that last victory, Norma Stars sat midfield with a rails-hugging ride from Jason Whiting. Rounding the turn, the pair had leader Lakeview Lightning in their sights and soon gobbled the gelding up, racing away to a four-and-a-half length rout. “She’s always been a good little money-spinner for me, though she hasn’t had a win (until now),” Glasson said. “I never thought about giving up. I don’t have very good horses; she’s the best one. “I’ve got four in work but I’m a very small trainer; it’s too much, really.” Glasson also had Pavliani run an encouraging fourth at the meeting, another ex-Victorian mare who too was purchased for $600 from a broodmare *****. In a further act of symmetry, Norma Stars’ success marked almost a year to the day since Glasson produced Pavliani to win at York for her first win out of retirement. 2. After Bruce Springsteen calls Trump “treasonous,” the president responds by criticizing the rock star’s skin After Bruce Springsteen calls Trump “treasonous,” the president responds by criticizing the rock star’s skin Bruce Springsteen gave his latest stinging criticism of President Trump and his administration, calling them “treasonous” and “incompetent” to kick off the first show of his British tour this week. The president responded in a Truth Social post that included criticism of the rocker’s skin and telling him to “keep his mouth shut” until returning to the U.S. Springsteen, a long and prominent supporter of Democratic presidential candidates, made his remarks at a concert in Manchester, England, on Wednesday during the first of his “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour. “The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock ‘n’ roll in dangerous times,” he said. “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” Bruce Springsteen performs during the first night of his ‘The Land of Hopes and Dreams’ tour at Co-op Live on May 14, 2025, in Manchester, England. Shirlaine Forrest/ Getty Images The 75-year-old rocker, who later shared a transcript and video of his remarks on his website and YouTube channel, asked supporters of democracy to “raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring!” Throughout the concert, Springsteen accused Mr. Trump and his administration of authoritarianism, rolling back civil rights, blocking free speech and “taking sadistic pleasure in the pain that they inflict on loyal American workers.” “They’re rolling back historic civil rights legislation that led to a more just and plural society,” Springsteen said. “They’re abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom.” On Friday, Mr. Trump responded on his social media platform, saying that the rocker is “just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country.” He added: “Springsteen is ‘dumb as a rock,’ and couldn’t see what was going on, or could he (which is even worse!)? This dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just ‘standard fare.’ Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!” This is not the first time Springsteen has aimed at Mr. Trump and his policies. When he endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election, Springsteen called Mr. Trump “the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.” “Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, spiritually and emotionally divided as it does than at this moment. It doesn’t have to be this way,” the rock star said in a short video shared on social media. In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen called Mr. Trump a “moron.” When Mr. Trump was running for reelection in 2020, Springsteen told The Atlantic he didn’t know “if our democracy could stand another four years of his custodianship.” Later this summer, Springsteen will also release a new album collection that will include dozens of “never-before-heard” songs from previously unreleased records. 3. Man wrongly jailed for five years demands fair compensation scheme Man wrongly jailed for five years demands fair compensation scheme An innocent man who spent five years behind bars after being wrongly convicted of ***** has hit out at the “unfair and draconian” compensation system, warning a miscarriage of justice could happen to anyone. In 2017, Brian Buckle’s life was upended after he was found guilty of raping and ********* assaulting a child, charges which he had denied. After a lengthy legal battle, his conviction was found unsafe by the Court of Appeal, and a retrial with fresh forensic evidence and witnesses saw the jury clear him of all counts within less than an hour. Despite this, he was refused compensation by the Ministry of Justice, who acknowledged his innocence but said he must “prove it beyond reasonable doubt”. Peter Sullivan was wrongly imprisoned for the ******* of Diane Sindall for 38 years (Merseyside Police) It follows a significant law change in 2014, that means if a victim of a miscarriage of justice in England and Wales wants to receive compensation, they must not only be cleared, but also demonstrate they are innocent. Mr Buckle told The Independent: “I’m disgusted by it really, that they can take you away from your family for five-and-a-half years, and totally disregard what’s happened.” “They still say that I’m not innocent enough to get compensation, yet the letter I had off them says I am innocent and remain innocent of all charges.” His calls for change come days after Peter Sullivan had his ******* conviction overturned, in what is thought to be the longest-running miscarriage of justice in British history. The 68-year-old spent 38 years behind bars in a Category A prison after being convicted of the frenzied ***** and ******* of florist Diane Sindall, 21, who was killed as she left work in 1986. Buckle has been trying to rebuild his relationship with his wife and daughter since he was released from prison (Supplied) Mr Sullivan always protested his innocence, and new forensic evidence ordered by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) found that his DNA was not present on samples preserved from the crime scene. Of Mr Sullivan’s overturned conviction, Mr Buckle said: “Although it is great to hear that Peter Sullivan has had his conviction quashed, it is horrific that he has been locked up for 38 years for a crime he did not do. “Thankfully DNA has now proven it was not him, yet DNA was first used in 1986 a year before Peter was found guilty and the *** National Database was established in 1995. It should never have taken until 2025 to establish it was someone else’s DNA.” The news of what happened to Mr Sullivan left Mr Buckle feeling angry: “I just felt sorry for the man… It’s just unbelievable.” Now, he is trying to raise awareness about the possibility that others might experience the same miscarriage of justice. Buckle says the justice system ‘stripped me away from my family and stripped my family away from me’ (Supplied) “I was one of the general public, and like I say, I still am. But [I want to] educate them to think like this can happen to anybody at any time.” As a result of his own experience in being wrongly convicted, Mr Buckle has suffered PTSD and lost a well-paid job he held for 16 years prior to his arrest. His time in prison also meant that he missed his daughter’s 18th and 21st birthdays, and his wife spent her entire inheritance in funding legal fees to secure his release. He said: “My family sacrificed everything to clear my name. My father-in-law even sold his house to fund my legal fight. The emotional and financial toll has been devastating. “Now I live with PTSD, and even though I am a free man, the trauma of those five years will never fully leave me. I don’t want millions, I want recognition of the injustice I suffered and the chance to rebuild my life.” Every night, Mr Buckle dreams about prison. “When I wake up in the morning, I just feel so bad because when I wake up, I think I’m still in prison.” Brian Buckle has been unable to return to work since he got out of prison (Supplied) Since his release, he’s become a totally different person as he no longer trusts people and it’s taken its toll on his family relationships. He is still trying to “build a relationship back up” with his wife and daughter having been away from home for so long. Mr Buckle hasn’t been able to return to work since he’s left prison. “There’s no way I could go out and work for somebody at the moment because I just want to be home. I don’t like being around people and stuff really. “I’ve got to have people with me that I trust all the time that talk for me.” In his letter from the MoJ, Mr Buckle was given no chance to appeal the decision regarding his compensation, and he is calling for the current scheme to be scrapped. Over the course of his imprisonment, Mr Buckle’s family spent £500,000 on legal fees to prove his innocence and secure his release. Had he been able to apply for compensation, this is equal to the total amount he would have potentially been awarded. Brian missed two of his daughter’s milestone birthdays while in prison (Supplied) Mr Buckle is not alone in his sense of betrayal and anger at the English criminal justice system. In recent years, several miscarriage of justice cases have made headlines including Andrew Malkinson, who spent 17 years behind bars for *****. He had his conviction quashed in 2023 after his lawyers tracked down DNA evidence that proved his innocence. Victor Nealon similarly spent 17 years behind bars for attempted *****, 10 years longer than his recommended tariff, because he continued to protest his innocence. On two occasions the (CCRC) refused to carry out DNA tests that would have proved his innocence. His conviction was eventually quashed in 2013. A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “We acknowledge the grave impact miscarriages of justice have and are committed to supporting individuals in rebuilding their lives. “The Law Commission is currently consulting on the law relating to criminal appeals, including compensation for miscarriages of justice. We will consider their findings before deciding on any action in this area.” Source link #Man #wrongly #jailed #years #demands #fair #compensation #scheme Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  4. Novogratz’ Galaxy Digital opens trading on the Nasdaq at $23.50 Novogratz’ Galaxy Digital opens trading on the Nasdaq at $23.50 Mike Novogratz’ crypto firm Galaxy Digital started trading on the Nasdaq Friday under the ticker GLXY. The stock opened at $23.50 per share on the U.S. exchange. Galaxy Digital, which has been traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange since 2020, shifted its shares to the Nasdaq through a direct listing — a move that follows a grueling, multi-year battle with U.S. regulators. Novogratz told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Friday that Galaxy’s value now hinges on two high-growth areas: crypto and artificial intelligence. “These are the two most exciting growth areas in markets, right. AI and the infrastructure needed for AI to exist and crypto finally … at the brink of institutional adoption,” he said. “We have built our company for this moment, so I couldn’t be more excited.” Read more about tech and crypto from CNBC Pro Novogratz said Galaxy is effectively two businesses now: “We are a data center company and a crypto company.” The Nasdaq listing comes after four years of regulatory delays, with Galaxy spending more than $25 million and enduring nine rounds of back-and-forth comments with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Novogratz. What should have taken at most, 90 days, stretched to 1,320, he said. “You needed to be very well capitalized — and a pretty big, strong company — just to stay in the game,” Novogratz told CNBC. The billionaire also pointed to the U.S. market’s unmatched depth, saying Galaxy’s visibility in Canada was one-thirtieth of what it could achieve in the United States. “If we had been in the U.S. markets those four years, we’d be a different company,” he said. The listing follows eToro’s successful Nasdaq debut this week, signaling renewed investor appetite for crypto-adjacent firms after years of regulatory caution. 5. Canada’s iconic Hudson Bay brand to survive after ***** to competitor Canada’s iconic Hudson Bay brand to survive after ***** to competitor The Hudson Bay Company – Canada’s oldest corporation – will sell its brand to another iconic national retailer, ********* Tire. The department store chain, which has applied for creditor protection, will sell its intellectual property for C$30m ($21.5m, £16.2m). The move comes after the company, also known as HBC, liquidated all its stores, citing a shifting retail landscape post-pandemic and US tariffs as insurmountable challenges. ********* Tire is another major domestic retailer, with over 1,700 shops across the country that sell everything from sporting goods to hardware. At stake is a brand that is over 350 years old. Founded in 1670, HBC was granted a royal charter to control trade in parts of Canada. The company began trading British-made wool “point” blankets emblazoned with stripes in blue, red, green and yellow. It then morphed into a mid- and upper-range department store with key properties in several historic downtown buildings in cities across the country. It also began branding a plethora of products with those same point-blanket stripes, from teddy bears to ceramics. When it announced it would be closing down, demand for Hudson’s striped products soared, with blankets especially selling for thousands on eBay. The resurgence of interest in the company, while it was on its last breath, sparked some hope that the brand may be able to make a comeback. The ***** of its intellectual property – which includes in-house brands like Gluckstein and Distinctly Home – to ********* Tire will ensure that the brand lives on, even if the physical shops do not. 8. What is an inductor? | Definition from TechTarget What is an inductor? | Definition from TechTarget An inductor is a passive electronic component that temporarily stores energy in a magnetic field when electric current flows through the inductor’s coil. In its simplest form, an inductor consists of two terminals and an insulated wire coil. Inductors are also known as coils, chokes or reactors in older publications. Inductors help to handle fluctuations in an electric current running through a circuit. When an electric current flows through a conductor such as copper wire, the current generates a small magnetic field around the wire. The magnetic field becomes much stronger if the wire is shaped into a coil. If the wire is coiled around a central core made up of a material such as iron, the magnetic field grows stronger still — this is essentially how an electromagnet works. The strength of the magnetic field entirely depends on the electric current. Changing the electric current also changes that field. Inductors help manage fluctuations in the electrical current flowing through a circuit. Inductors use the relationship between the electric current and magnetic fields to compensate for changes in the current’s flow by briefly storing electrical energy as magnetic force. When the current begins to pass through the inductor’s coil, the magnetic field expands until it finally stabilizes. Until the magnetic field stabilizes, the coil inhibits the flow of current. After it stabilizes, the current flows through the coil normally. Energy is stored in the magnetic field for as long as the current continues to run through the coil. When the current stops flowing, the magnetic field starts to collapse, and the magnetic energy is converted back into electrical energy, which continues to flow into the circuit until the magnetic field completely collapses. Inductors and inductance If the flow of current remains in a steady state, it passes through the inductor just like any wire without any reaction on the part of the inductor. However, if there are sudden changes in the current, the inductor tries to resist them. An inductor causes the current to lag behind the voltage because of its magnetic field. When the current changes, the inductor’s magnetic field changes — increasing if the current increases, decreasing if the current decreases. Changes in the magnetic field cause changes to the magnetic flux, which in turn induce an electromagnetic field (EMF) that tries to oppose the change in current. If the current decreases, the EMF attempts to increase it. If the current increases, the EMF attempts to decrease it. The inductor’s ability to resist changes to the current is referred to as its inductance, which is the ratio of voltage to the current’s rate of change within the coil. The standard unit of inductance is the henry (H). Because the henry is such a large unit, many inductors are measured in smaller quantities, such as the millihenry (1 mH equals 10-3 H) and the microhenry (1 µH equals 10-6 H). The nanohenry is occasionally used (1 nH equals 10-9 H). Many factors can affect an inductor’s level of inductance, including the number of coils, the length of the coiled wire, the material used for the core, and the size and shape of the core. If no core is used, then inductance also depends on the radius of the coil. Dielectric materials provide the same level of inductance as air, while ferromagnetic materials increase inductance. For a given coil radius and number of turns, air cores — those without solid cores — offer the least inductance. Materials such as wood, glass and plastic — known as dielectric materials — are essentially the same as air in terms of inductance. Ferromagnetic substances such as iron, laminated iron and powdered iron increase the inductance. In some cases, this increase is on the order of thousands of times. The shape of the core is also significant. Toroidal or donut-shaped cores provide more inductance for a given core material and number of turns than solenoidal or cylindrical cores. Fabricating inductors onto integrated circuit (IC) chips is difficult, but it can be done, although they have a fairly low inductance. In some cases, inductance can be simulated by using transistors, resistors and capacitors fabricated onto IC chips. Inductors share many elements in common with electrical transformers. They use wound coils and ferrous cores to create electromagnetic fields to store and convert electrical energy. Integrated circuits have undergone several generations of advancements according to their design assembly, size and number of components per chip. What are the differences between an inductor and a capacitor? Inductors, capacitors and resistors make up the three fundamental passive components in circuits. Inductors and capacitors might at first seem like they serve the same function — storing energy — but their different electrical characteristics cause them to be used differently in circuits. Inductors store energy as magnetic flux. Capacitors store energy as an electric field. In an inductor, when a current is first applied, it resists the flow; when it is saturated, it allows the flow. In a capacitor, when a current is first applied, it allows the flow; once it is saturated, it resists the flow. Inductors resist changes in current. This causes them to block high-frequency signals, and pass low-frequency signals and direct current. Capacitors resist direct current and low-frequency signals, and pass high-frequency signals. What are inductors used for? Inductors are most often used as filters to block unwanted high-frequency signals. For example, an inductor can filter out higher harmonics or noise in a power supply and leave a clean 50/60 Hz line frequency. Inductors are often used with capacitors as a frequency band pass or a tuned circuit. By carefully selecting the inductance and capacitance, only a very specific frequency is allowed through. This is because the inductor blocks higher frequencies, and the capacitor blocks lower frequencies. Band-pass circuits are widely used in wireless communications, audio systems, graphic equalizers and a range of other applications. For example, simple radios use a band-pass filter, with a variable capacitor, to select the station to listen to. These types of circuits can also be found in Wi-Fi and 5G radios to remove unwanted interference. Switching power supplies use inductors in their design. The inductor can store power as the circuit switches on and off rapidly. By doing this, the resulting output voltage of the power supply can be controlled to be higher or lower than the input voltage. This also makes switching power supplies much more efficient than simpler passive power supplies. Learn the main factors that can guide your uninterruptible power supply selection process and how to size a UPS unit. Forget the Force, AI brings the late James Earl Jones’ iconic Darth Vader voice to Fortnite Forget the Force, AI brings the late James Earl Jones’ iconic Darth Vader voice to Fortnite You can now speak with Darth Vader in Fortnite Disney and Epic Games announced the revival of Darth Vader’s iconic voice thanks to the power of AI James Earl Jones died in 2024, but his voice lives on Disney and Epic Games have confirmed Darth Vader’s iconic voice will be coming to Fortnite, thanks to the power of AI. Darth Vader, one of Star Wars’ most famous characters, was voiced by actor James Earl Jones, who died last year at the age of 93. Now, starting today, fans of a galaxy far, far away will be able to hear his voice once more… in Fortnite. In a blog post, Epic Games confirmed Jones’ AI voice will appear in Fortnite and that the company is “honored to feature the voice of the late Mr. Jones, and we thank his estate for the opportunity to make this happen for players.” You may like There’s also a quote from the actor’s family: “James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars, and he always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it. We hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character.” The new Darth Vader dialogue was created by Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash model, and the audio by ElevenLabs’ Flash v2.5 model. Fortnite players will be able to speak to Darth Vader in-game and recruit the Star Wars villain to help win a Victory Royale. Darth Vader returns There’s been an ongoing debate surrounding the use of AI to bring a deceased actor’s likeness to life. Jones, who’s not only famous for his role as Darth Vader, but also as Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King, signed over rights to his archival voice, collaborating with the Ukrainian company, Respeecher. You may have heard of Respeecher before, as the company’s software was used to improve Hungarian dialect in Oscar-nominated The Brutalist earlier this year. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. This collaboration will come under scrutiny, as the debate of whether or not we should keep actors’ likenesses alive following their passing rages on. That said, Disney and Epic Games, alongside Jones’ family, are clear that they’ve recreated his voice in the most tasteful way possible. In the collaboration announcement, Disney and Epic said, “Epic Games and Disney have worked together to thoughtfully develop this innovative feature with a strong focus on transparency, consent, and safety — ensuring that creators, Disney IP, and players are protected in interactive experiences.” So, whether you like it or not, you can chat with Darth Vader in Fortnite this weekend, although you’ll need to be over 13 as your data is sent to Gemini to generate a response. 12. AI travel agents planning future trip far beyond ‘assistant’ status AI travel agents planning future trip far beyond ‘assistant’ status Alexander Spatari | Moment | Getty Images Since ChatGPT’s big public debut already close to three years ago, Google has faced persistent questions about its decades-long hold over internet search traffic. That concern surfaced again in recent weeks after a top Apple executive alluded to a decline in search traffic on iPhone (where Google is the default search engine in the Safari browser) during court testimony. Amid a stock slide, Google was quick to issue a statement saying its search business was fine. In an earlier panic over ChatGPT, Google founder Sergey Brin spoke out to say he has full confidence Google will figure out the business models to succeed. In addition to the start of testing of AI search on its homepage this week, Google’s debut of agentic AI for travel is a good example of where the business models are headed. With the summer travel season approaching, Google recently rolled out new updates for Search, Maps, image-based search tool Lens and its Gemini AI to provide people with new ways to book, plan and experience trips. Max Starkov, hospitality and travel technologist, says the Gemini AI agents, and other agentic AI competitors, are one of the biggest moments in the history of the online travel industry. “Transitioning travel from mobile-first to AI-first will be the greatest transformation of our industry since the advent of the internet,” he said. “Within this AI transformation, I believe agentic AI like the Gemini AI agent will have the single biggest impact on our industry.” OpenAI’s Operator, which launched back in January, can automate tasks such as vacation planning. Expedia is already live with the OpenAI tool, and is also partnering with Microsoft‘s Copilot Actions, an agentic AI tech which automates tasks like travel booking and reservations. Last week, Expedia launched a new AI-powered tool called Expedia Trip Matching, currently available to early access users on Instagram, which allows travelers to build an itinerary based on an Instagram Reel and then book directly on Expedia. The change away from traditional user inputs and to agentic AI is significant, according to Jay Richmond, senior director at travel consultant Amadeus. “Today, travel companies provide us with trip recommendations based on search parameters we specify, like date and budget, as well as our browsing and purchase history to present a large range of options. Personalization exists but is limited by a significant lack of context, and context is everything when it comes to planning a trip,” said Richmond. Natural language chat AI agents are already more effective at eliciting this context. “Imagine you have tasked a personal assistant with organizing a business trip from Europe to the U.S. During that interaction your assistant is able to understand that you absolutely must return home in time for your child’s birthday, that your trip will last for three nights, and you are free on Thursday evening when your favorite band happens to be playing in town,” Richmond said. Rather than returning a page of options generated by a search containing only dates and locations, the AI agent can apply sentiment analysis and reasoning logic to offer recommendations that better meet the traveler’s needs, Richmond said. ‘This isn’t about AI assistants anymore’ A Google blog post detailing the various use cases for the AI agents points to AI Overviews, a hotel price-tracking tool similar to its flight-cost trackers, as well as Lens, which allows users to take a picture of virtually anything and build an itinerary around it, learn more about what they’re looking at, create AI-built personalized tours, or translate items in the image into their chosen language. “Travelers are finding these features incredibly useful for accessing information and asking new kinds of questions, helping them save time and focus on enjoying their destination,” a Google spokesperson said. Amadeus, Microsoft and Accenture have collaborated on a trip planning agent which is available to users of Amadeus’ Cytric Easy, a booking tool for business travel. Users can chat with a natural language agent through Microsoft Teams, replacing traditional sequential search with a conversational interface to plan and book relevant business trips. Ultimately, the use of agentic AI in travel is being designed to make decisions and take actions autonomously, adapting to changing environments, rather than just reacting to an input. That is both an opportunity and a threat to the major players that could be disintermediated from the travel business. “The presumption is that AI agents can research, plan and book travelers’ vacations autonomously, thus circumventing online travel agents and other intermediaries,” Starkov said. “This isn’t about AI assistants anymore; it’s about fully autonomous agent networks that execute complex workflows in real time,” he added. And it is a travel planning conversation that will extend both ways, with similar agentic AI continuing to develop on the travel supplier side of the interactions. Whether airline, hotel, or car rental company, the AI will have increasing access to all data points across travel inventory. The travel supplier AI agent will be fully interfaced with the AI search platforms and the travel supplier’s tech stack, in order to know everything that there is to know about known customers, and deal with new unknown customers, as well, Starkov said. “In a world where AI agents act on behalf of the traveler, it’s likely those agents will be in constant contact with AI agents representing airlines, hotels, and destination providers,” Richmond said, adding “your agent will convey your requirements and receive replies from agents representing travel providers or travel aggregators.” In fact, Richmond says the agents may well negotiate with each other before your agent returns what it considers to be the most relevant options for your trip. Those options would ideally include one major travel planning goal that won’t change for consumers in the AI era, according to Richmond: “getting the best price,” he said. Mixing in practical and digital effects, Rebel Moon is certainly a treat for the eyes if nothing else, and Super Evil Megacorp is eager to replicate the experience with their mobile adaptation, Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game. Now you can get a firsthand look at how Blood Line will turn out as SEM has unleashed their newest creation, with a trailer showing off the environments made for Blood Line. Created in the proprietary Evil engine, there’s everything from dusky deserts to lush, fire-strewn temples and gloomy rebel bases for players to explore. Blood Line is set to offer a mix of Diablo and the original Helldivers with its top-down shooting and slashing gameplay. You’ll play as rebels on the planet Krypt, fighting back against the tyrannical Motherworld with sabotage, subterfuge and a bit of good old-fashioned violence. With the Rebel Moon film franchise seemingly dormant for the moment, Super Evil Megacorp will hopefully have the chance to restart interest in the series. And considering the releases they already have under their belt, the gameplay and visuals we’ve seen so far, it could very well be that Blood Line will make a splash when it releases. But, we are still a ways out from launch for Blood Line. 15. Trump returns to Washington with investment agreements but no major peace deals Trump returns to Washington with investment agreements but no major peace deals ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — President Donald Trump is returning to Washington on Friday after a diplomatic tour of the Middle East, where he pitched American business and secured investment pledges but failed to reach long-promised peace deals in Gaza and Ukraine. Marked by high-level talks and lavish displays of regional hospitality, the trip showcased Trump’s self-styled role as a dealmaker and peacemaker. Still, his loftiest targets — resolving the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine — remain elusive. In Abu Dhabi, Trump capped his weeklong tour with a visit to Qasr Al Watan, the emirate’s presidential palace, where he toured exhibits showcasing investments in energy, health care and aviation. Accompanied by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the president met with business leaders and took shots at his predecessor. “I’m just thinking, we have a president of the United States doing the selling,” Trump said, taking a swipe at former President Joe Biden. “You think Biden would be doing this? I don’t think so.” A large screen at the event repurposed his campaign slogan to proclaim “Making Energy Great Again,” a nod to the economic focus of the trip. Throughout the week, Trump announced major investments by Middle Eastern nations in American businesses, including a $600 billion investment deal from Saudi Arabia and an agreement with Qatar Airways to buy hundreds of planes from Boeing and GE Aerospace. The visit came amid controversy over Trump’s eagerness to accept a planned gift from the Qatari government: a $400 million luxury plane which he hopes to use as Air Force One. The offer has drawn backlash from Democrats and some Republicans back home over potential ethical, security and financial challenges. Trump repeatedly dismissed concerns about the plane, saying he “thought it was a great gesture.” He also brushed off accusations that the trip, which came as his namesake company expands into the Middle East, created a potential conflict of interest. Yet, even as he celebrated his economic victories, the president faced the reality upon departure of the ongoing wars in Gaza and Ukraine, conflicts he has vowed to resolve. The president has made ending some of the world’s thorniest conflicts a top priority of his administration, vowing to stop the bloodshed and bring about a lasting peace. And in a show of strong commitment, he has dispatched top aides to the cause, with special envoy Steve Witkoff hopscotching the globe in pursuit of the president’s goal. Before departing Washington, Trump announced the release of ***** Alexander, an American held by ******, with Qatar playing a central role in the negotiations. However, the president acknowledged that significant challenges remain. “We’re looking at Gaza,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he left Abu Dhabi. “And we’re going to get that taken care of. A lot of people are starving.” As Trump concluded his trip Friday, Israeli airstrikes had killed more than 100 people in the last 24 hours, according to local health authorities. On Friday, asked about future opportunities for face-to-face diplomacy between himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump responded: “We have to meet. He and I will meet. I think we’ll solve it, or maybe not.” Earlier, Trump had expressed disappointment but not surprise when Putin failed to attend a planned meeting in Turkey. “I didn’t think it was possible for him to go if I didn’t go,” Trump said, noting that his schedule had made the trip untenable. Instead, he teased the near possibility of a breakthrough in nuclear talks with Iran. Trump told reporters Friday that his administration had submitted a proposal for a deal with Tehran, after describing earlier their efforts “in very serious negotiations with Iran for long-term peace.” Earlier in the week, Trump hinted that he hoped an agreement was near, stating that “we’re not going to be making any nuclear dust in Iran.” He said Friday that recognizing the new Syrian government — and lifting what he called “brutal” and “biting” sanctions — was “the right thing to do” as the new leadership cements its control. Trump said Wednesday that the trip did not sideline Benjamin Netanyahu by forgoing a visit with the Israeli prime minister, explaining that his relationships with Arab leaders are “very good for Israel.” He also said he reached out to Netanyahu on the decision to lift sanctions on Syria. Analysts see parallels between this trip and Trump’s 2017 Middle East tour. “The key thing to watch is what comes next in the region and what big steps his administration takes,” said Brian Katulis, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute. After 2017, the Gulf region saw a rift that isolated Qatar for three years and a U.S. “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran that he said failed to deliver lasting results. Yet, the trip also laid the groundwork for the Abraham Accords, the 2020 agreement normalizing ties between Israel and several Arab states, which remains Trump’s signature foreign policy achievement and which Biden sought to continue. Trump is aiming higher. “This time around, Trump is looking for a historic breakthrough with Iran on the nuclear talks and also dreams of getting a Nobel Prize if he gets that Iran deal or expands the Abraham Accords to include a Saudi-Israeli normalization accord,” Katulis said. Trump’s hosts this week have also played important roles in these efforts, helping to mediate the conflicts and offering support to negotiations, and the president acknowledged there was more to do as he departed Abu Dhabi. “Unexpected surprises and events have a way of knocking U.S. administrations off balance,” Katulis said. “The ongoing war in Gaza and the growing misery of Palestinians living there will be a critical test.” Source link #Trump #returns #Washington #investment #agreements #major #peace #deals Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  21. Two climbers die during expedition up Mount Everest Two climbers die during expedition up Mount Everest An Indian and a ********* climber have died while climbing Mount Everest, expedition organisers say, as hundreds of climbers are attempting to scale the world’s highest peak. The Indian climber, identified as Subrata Ghosh, died on Thursday just below the 8,849-metre summit of the peak while he was returning from the top. The other climber, identified as Philipp Santiago, 45, from the Philippines, died on Wednesday while he was headed to the summit. He had reached Camp 4, which is the highest camp on the mountain, and was preparing for the final bid to reach the summit. Bodha Raj Bhandari of the Nepal-based Snowy Horizon Trek and Expedition, which equipped and organised the expedition, said the bodies remained on the mountain and it was yet to be decided if and when they would be brought down. Retrieving bodies is both expensive and difficult as it takes many people to drag them down the icy slopes of the mountain. The spring climbing season began in March and ends at the end of May. May is the best month to climb the peak and climbers get only a few opportunities when the weather conditions improve, allowing just time for them to try attempt scale the peak. Everest was first climbed in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. More than 300 people have died on Everest since then. 23. Melania Trump statue in her native Slovenia disappears, after previous one was set on fire Melania Trump statue in her native Slovenia disappears, after previous one was set on fire Police in Slovenia are investigating the disappearance of a bronze statue of U.S. first lady Melania Trump that was sawed off and carried away from her hometown. The life-size sculpture was unveiled in 2020 during President Donald Trump’s first term near Sevnica in central Slovenia, where Melanija Knavs was born in 1970. It replaced a wooden statue that had been set on fire earlier that year. Police spokeswoman Alenka Drenik Rangus said Friday that the police were informed about the theft of the statue on Tuesday. She said police were working to track down those responsible. According to Slovenian media reports, the bronze replica was sawed off at the ankles and removed. The ankles of a sawed-off and taken-away bronze statue that represented Melania Trump remain on the tree stump where it was placed in 2020, in the village of Rozno, Slovenia, May 16, 2025, near Melania Trump’s hometown of Sevnica. Relja Dusek/AP The original wooden statue was torched in July 2020. The rustic figure was cut from the trunk of a linden tree, showing her in a pale blue dress like the one she wore at Mr. Trump’s presidential inauguration in 2017. The original statue met with mixed opinions by locals, with one resident telling Reuters in 2019 that the Melania depicted in the sculpture “does not look as beautiful as she normally is,” while another local told BBC News it looked like “Smurfette.” It had been carved out of a tree trunk by local chainsaw artist Ales Zupevc, BBC News reported. The replica bronze statue that replaced it has no obvious resemblance with the first lady. 24. ‘I’ve never seen something like that before’ ‘I’ve never seen something like that before’ Thousands of blue, jellyfish-like creatures have been found on beaches in California recently, puzzling beachgoers and concerning climate scientists. What’s happening? Velella velella, also known as “by-the-wind-sailors,” have been washing up on beaches in California in unusual numbers. According to KQED, one beachgoer said: “There were thousands of dead jellyfish all over the beach. … I’ve never seen something like that before.” These sea creatures aren’t necessarily uncommon in the region, as they routinely show up during late spring and early summer to eat the plankton that increases at that time. However, how often people are seeing them washed up on beaches now is of some concern to climate scientists. Though there is still a lack of concrete evidence, there is circumstantial evidence that the rising temperatures of the sea surface caused by pollution and other human activity have increased how often and how many V. velella are stranded onshore. Why are rising sea temperatures concerning? As rising sea temperatures continue increasing, the results can be deadly not only for marine life but also for humans. Watch now: Giant snails invading New York City? Warmer sea temperatures can increase the risk of more powerful and frequent extreme weather events occurring, such as hurricanes, which lead to flooding, property destruction, injuries, and even death in communities affected by them. Warmer oceans are also linked to higher levels of domoic acid, a toxin that can make people and marine life ill when ingested. If animals or humans consume enough, it can lead to domoic acid poisoning, which in humans can result in abdominal cramps, vomiting, difficulty breathing, and seizures. Rising sea temperatures can result in coral bleaching, a decrease in fish, and the loss of marine life. What’s being done about rising sea temperatures? There are several ways to help mitigate this damage. Reducing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere from landfills and dirty energy is among the most vital. More companies and individuals switching to renewable energy sources, recycling, and using less plastic can reduce harmful carbon pollution. Conservation work can help achieve this, too. Protecting, managing, and restoring coastal and marine ecosystems can make marine life more resilient in the face of warmer temperatures. Further scientific research can help, as the more researchers know about how warmer temperatures affect marine life of all kinds, the better they will be able to understand how to devise strategies for mitigation and adaptation. 25. Trump says Comey 8647 post called for assassination Trump says Comey 8647 post called for assassination A combination of file photos show U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House in Washington, DC, U.S. April 9, 2018 and former FBI Director James Comey on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., June 8, 2017. Reuters President Donald Trump said Friday that former FBI Director James Comey was “calling for the assassination of the president” in Comey’s since-deleted social media post that featured the numbers “8647.” “He knew exactly what that meant,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News, a day after the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service opened an investigation into Comey’s Instagram post. “A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know … that meant ‘assassination,’ ” the president said. “And it says it loud and clear.” “Our country’s become respected again, and all this, and he’s calling for the assassination of the president,” said Trump, who narrowly survived an assassin’s bullet last summer. Trump’s characterization of Comey’s post echoed that of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who claimed Thursday the former FBI director “just called the assassination of @POTUS Trump.” White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich said Comey was putting out what can be “clearly be interpreted as a hit” on Trump, while Donald Trump Jr. said the ex-director was casually “calling for my dad to be murdered.” Comey has denied that his Instagram post showing what he called a “shell formation” of the numbers “8647” was a threat to Trump, who fired him as FBI director in May 2017 after the bureau began investigating contacts between members of Trump’s presidential campaign and Russians. “I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message,” Comey wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday night. “I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence,” Comey wrote. “It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.” Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards Source: @comey | Instagram The term “Eighty-Six” is a verb, which the Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines as informally meaning “to refuse to serve” or “to eject or ban” a customer, and “to reject, discontinue, or get rid of” something. When Fox News’ Brett Baier noted that Comey said he was not calling for violence, Trump said, “Well, he apologized ’cause he was hit.” Asked what he wanted to see happen to Comey, Trump demurred, saying that it would be up to Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I don’t want to take a position on it because that’s going to be up to Pam and all of the great people, but I will say this,” Trump said. “I think it’s a terrible thing,” Trump said. “He’s a dirty cop. He’s a dirty cop. And if he had a clean history … I could understand if there was a leniency. But I’m going to let them make that decision.” This is breaking news. Please refresh for updates.
