The Marvel Rivals Loki Ult Pandemic Has Gotten Tragically Out of Hand The Marvel Rivals Loki Ult Pandemic Has Gotten Tragically Out of Hand Playing as Loki in Marvel Rivals is the same as playing every character in the game, in some ways. But yeah, you can enjoy the true force of the God of Mischief in the game. However, players are mostly focusing on replicating the ability of Cloak and Dagger. Why not replicate the powers of offensive characters? That would deal more damage. Well, Loki players are as smart as the character himself, and they have very good reason behind doing so. Hard to find such smart folks in shooters. Why are Loki players mostly using a select few Strategist ults? Troller’s best friend is a troll. | Image Credit: NetEase Games In the current meta, many players have noticed that Loki players are mostly stealing Cloak and Dagger’s ultimate the most. Not like it is bad, rather the ultimate is too good for its duality. It heals friendlies while damaging foes nearby. Since in Marvel Rivals, every fight happens in a cluster, the ability is very useful in those situations. Furthermore, you don’t have to heal or hurt enemies, which is even better individually. So yeah, in some way, the ability is broken. As long as it gives an advantage, it doesn’t matter. Furthermore, the ultimate of Dagger and Cloak has the lowest risk as you’re always dodging. It’s pretty obvious that Loki would have done the same, too. As they say, “efficiency is never laziness.” Cheers, Loki enjoyers. You may say, Loki mains can take Luna Snow then. Since she’s a healer and gives a damage boost. Well, that would be a fair point. But again, you’ll have to switch between her dance modes to trigger each effect. So that’s one more hassle. What about Invisible Woman? Yeah, she’s a good alternative, and many Loki players think the same, too. It heals teammates and makes them invisible, but at the cost of getting shot at. If Loki dies while using Sue’s ultimate, all the effort is gone. But again, if the team is good, then it will work out for sure. Loki players are out of line, but they are right People usually think in shooter titles, being aggressive is the most important thing, but that’s not true. It’s support, a good support, can always overpower raw aim. That’s exactly what Loki players are doing in Marvel Rivals, and others should be glad. That’s called playing their role. Loki isn’t supposed to be an aggressive character; he’s all about planning. Even though he can copy every single ultimate ability, it’s they have to use them all. It’s best if they are allowed to use the ultimate ability that supports the situation. Some may complain, “Oh, the Loki mains always copy Sue, Luna, or Cloak and Dagger.” Well, they have powerful ultimate abilities, or do you want them to use a worse character for a change of pace? Then stop complaining if it is helping your team. Yes, it might get annoying because you’re seeing the same suite of characters when Loki is using the ultimate. But, get this right, just because it is called a shooter game, doesn’t mean you shoot without using your grey matter. So they don’t necessarily have to play offense. Furthermore, defensive characters have pretty powerful ultimates in Marvel Rivals‘ current meta. So, isn’t it best to use them while they last? So let your fellow Loki enjoyers do their job, and pull your weight in the team. Who is your favorite character in Marvel Rivals? Do you find Loki mains to be annoying? Let us know in the comments below. Diamond League: Molly Caudery wins pole vault in Doha as Amy Hunt clocks PB in 100m Diamond League: Molly Caudery wins pole vault in Doha as Amy Hunt clocks PB in 100m In the 1500m, Scotland’s Jemma Reekie finished a credible third with a time of four minutes 7.33 seconds as Nelly Chepchirchir strode clear in 4:05.00, ahead of Kenyan team-mate Susan Ejore. Elsewhere, Amy Hunt finished third in the 100m in a time of 11.03 as she took .09 seconds off her personal best. The race was won by Tia Clayton, who outshone two-time Olympic 100m champion and Jamaican compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. The 38-year-old Fraser-Pryce was competing on the Diamond League circuit for the first time in three years, but could only finish fourth as Clayton, 20, won easily in a world-leading time of 10.92. Clayton’s twin sister Tina was second in 11.02, while Fraser-Pryce, competing in possibly her final season, clocked a season’s best 11.05 for fourth. Reigning men’s Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo produced a lacklustre performance for success in his signature event as he was almost caught on the line by Courtney Lindsey. Botswana’s Tebogo ran a smooth bend but seemed to lack fluency in the home straight and glanced to his right at Lindsey as he crossed the line in a modest 20.10, one hundredth of a second ahead of the American. In the men’s 800m, Tshepiso Masalela chased down Wycliffe Kinyamal to clock 1:43.11, the fastest time in the world this year. Meanwhile, Lawrence Okoye finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 65.01m, while fellow Briton Laviai Nielsen finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 52.02. Thelma Plum goes country (but stops off in Perth on the way) Thelma Plum goes country (but stops off in Perth on the way) Perth may not be one of the world’s biggest metropolises, but it would be a stretch to call it a country town. Which is why its inclusion on Queensland singer Thelma Plum’s latest regional tour, aptly called I’m Sorry, Where Is That? is a little puzzling. Plum is performing at the very inner-city venue The Rechabite on May 20. “When I did the announcement online there were some people who found it very funny,” Plum admits. “Obviously I know Perth is not a regional town.” Not that we’re complaining. And when you’re coming all this way, it can’t hurt to add in a few extra shows where you can. So city audiences who missed Plum when she toured last year on the back of her new(ish) album I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back will have a chance to catch her before she heads to Margaret River, Kununurra and then across the country. Plum, who grew up between Brisbane and the tiny town of Delungra in NSW, says she is passionate about reaching regional audiences. “Country kids need music too,” she says. “Live music is not as accessible to country folk so it’s nice to make an effort to get out that way.” More than making an effort just to play, Plum is also holding a competition for acts in the towns she is visiting to support her. It’s her way of giving back and helping a new generation of talent, as her own career was given a boost when she won a competition as a teenager. “It’s so important, because this is how I started. I won a comp to play at the National Indigenous Music Awards. I was 17 so it was obviously only two years ago,” she jokes — Plum is 30. “It’s important if I’m going to these regional places that I am championing the local talent there. So I am really excited. The only thing I will say is I have been a little bit overwhelmed by how incredible everyone is. “People are so talented. I don’t know when that happened! People have been sending me videos of them singing or tagging me in their songs, and I am a little bit overwhelmed because everyone is so good, so I’m not sure how to navigate that.” Plum has come a long way since winning that competition as a teen, having firmly established herself as one of the county’s most gifted songwriters. After her hit album Better In Blak in 2019, she took a break of several years before releasing, (excuse the cliche) her difficult sophomore album. I’m Sorry Now Say It Back was released last year, with music ****** Rolling Stone describing the album as: “unspooling lyrics full of raw honesty, humanity laid bare, delivered in her unmistakable, vibrato-hewn voice and soundtracked with studio polish, strings, and delicious melodies.” The magazine also recently awarded her its single of the year prize for the song Freckles. “I was so stoked. I try not to get too caught up with that sort of stuff but I was pretty excited, I won’t lie,” she says. Plum says the wave of grungy women singer-songwriters of the 1990s were a major influence on I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back, and she namechecks Meredith Brooks, Jill Sobule and Suzanne Vega as inspirations behind the album. While I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back has more of a pop vibe than some of her earlier work, Plum says she would love to do a country album one day, and says anyone going along to her WA shows this week can expect to hear a country twinge to the set. “I think we might have a few more acoustic, slow moments,” she says. “I will still have my band with me. We might do a bit of a country-esque vibe to the set. “It will be the same as the tour in some sense as we will do a lot of the same songs, but it will be different in case some of the people who came to the city shows want to come to these shows as well. They can know that this will be different.” Thelma Plum plays The Rechabite on May 20, The River in Margaret River on May 21 ,and the Kimberley Moon Experience in Kununurra on May 24. Is Elden Ring Nightreign Coming to PlayStation Plus? Likelihood Explored Is Elden Ring Nightreign Coming to PlayStation Plus? Likelihood Explored With its release date inching closer every single day, fans of Elden Ring Nightreign have been going out looking for some answers that FromSoftware hasn’t really bothered to answer yet. And while most of them revolve around what will happen in-game, a few have been asking if we might get to see the title being added to the PlayStation Plus catalogue. This has caused many eyes to move around, including ours, searching for answers that aren’t really written out anywhere, which is already a bad start. Here is why we believe Elden Ring Nightreign might, or might not, line up soon to be added to Sony’s special offerings library. Will Elden Ring Nightreign be making its way onto PlayStation Plus? Just like its (arguably) better counterpart, Xbox Game Pass, Sony’s PlayStation Plus must have been eyeing to score more titles to offer its subscribers. Unfortunately, due to no official announcement from either FromSoftware or the game’s publishing studio Bandai Namco, the most fair assumption right now would be to assume Elden Ring Nightreign is not coming on any of these subscription services right now. While we looked for any hint that the studios might have shared to tease the game coming on PlayStation Plus, the lack of it only proves otherwise. It also seems believable because, apart from Bloodborne, a Souls game exclusively available on Sony’s platform, no FromSoftware title seems to be offered to players in the subscription catalog. Elden Ring Nightreign, in a nutshell, is FromSoftware’s gamble, as the studio is venturing out to try new genres and see what might work for them. Moreover, while it could have just ensured the title’s stable success by partnering up with either of the major subscription service-based gaming models, it commendably goes out on a limb to retain all rights and have a more direct sales connection with the players. What do you need to look forward to in Elden Ring Nightreign? Elden Ring Nightreign is going to be perfect for co-op lovers | FromSoftware Are you one of those gamers who like to roam around The Lands Between, slaying bosses with their friends thanks to summoning features and maybe even the seamless co-op mod? Then Elden Ring Nightreign is more than perfect for you. This upcoming FromSoftware multiplayer game is a co-operative survival game in which a group of three friends band together to survive in a fresh new variation of The Lands Between, called Limveld. The aim is to survive for three days, with all the players facing an ultimate boss, the Nightlord, on the last night. Furthermore, one of the best parts about the game is how FromSoftware chooses your character for you. Elden Ring Nightreign offers 8 different pre-determined characters with different abilities and weapon sets to suit different playstyles of the players. These are called the Nightfarers. Elden Ring Nightreign will be officially released on 30th May, 2025, and available on PC, Xbox One/Series S/Series X, and PlayStation 4/5. Warren Buffett Explains Why He Couldn’t Deny Greg Abel The Top Job At Berkshire Hathaway Any Longer: ‘He’s A Natural’ Warren Buffett Explains Why He Couldn’t Deny Greg Abel The Top Job At Berkshire Hathaway Any Longer: ‘He’s A Natural’ Warren Buffett says Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK) (NYSE:BRK) waited too long to hand the wheel to Greg Abel, calling his longtime lieutenant “a natural” and admitting it would have been “unfair” to deny him the top job any longer. What Happened: Buffett, 94, told The Wall Street Journal that he will step down as chief executive in December, ending a six-decade run that turned his investing vehicle into a $900 billion conglomerate. Abel, 62, will move up from vice chairman, where he already supervises the company’s non-insurance giants spanning railroads, utilities and manufacturing. Buffett, 94, told The Wall Street Journal that he will step down as chief executive in December, ending a six-decade run that turned his investing vehicle into a $900 billion conglomerate. Abel, 62, will move up from vice chairman, where he already supervises the company’s non-insurance giants spanning railroads, utilities and manufacturing. “He’s a natural,” Buffett said. Buffett conceded that aging finally caught him. “I didn’t really start getting old … until I was about 90,” he said, noting balance issues and fading eyesight. “The difference in energy level and just how much he (Greg Abel) could accomplish in a 10-hour day compared to what I could accomplish… the difference became more and more dramatic,” Buffett said. Buffett heaped more praise on Abel, saying he’s a lot like him in the way he doesn’t get fearful when “there’s a panic in the market”. “He will have ideas about where money should be invested,” Buffett said. See Also: The team behind $6B+ in licensing deals is now building the next billion-dollar IP empire — invest early at $2.25/share. Why It Matters: At Berkshire’s May 3 annual meeting, Buffett told shareholders “the time has arrived where Greg should become the chief executive of the company at year end,” cementing the long-telegraphed hand-off to Abel. Meanwhile, in an interview, Berkshire Hathaway board lead director Sue Decker’s has said that Abel is “much more involved in capital-allocation decisions,” proof the transition is already happening behind the curtain. Buffett has been equally blunt about rumors he’s hoarding Berkshire’s record $348 billion cash pile to give his heir an easy victory, joking, “I wouldn’t do anything nearly so noble as to withhold investing myself just so Greg could look good.” He added that he’s still prepared to deploy “$20 billion, or even $100 billion” whenever opportunity knocks, pointing to the fact that the CEO switch won’t clip his own investing wings. Diddy lawyer seeks to undercut prosecution’s ***** claim Diddy lawyer seeks to undercut prosecution’s ***** claim A lawyer representing Sean “Diddy” Combs in the hip-hop mogul’s sex trafficking trial has sought to undercut the claim of the prosecution’s star witness that Combs ****** her in 2018. During a second day cross-examining Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura in Manhattan federal court, a defence lawyer showed jurors text messages suggesting she may have had consensual sex with Combs a month after the alleged *****. The 38-year-old Ventura, a rhythm and blues singer known as Cassie, previously told jurors that Combs coerced and blackmailed her into taking part in days-long, drug-fuelled sex parties he called “Freak Offs” which are central to the prosecution’s case. She also said Combs physically and emotionally abused her throughout their tumultuous 11-year relationship and ****** her in August 2018 after they had broken up. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to five felony counts of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. During her direct testimony earlier in the week, Ventura recounted more than a decade of what she said was Combs’ physical and emotional abuse. On Wednesday, she recounted through tears how Combs allegedly ****** her in her living room. “I just remember crying and saying no but it was very fast,” she said, as her voice trailed off. On Friday, defence lawyer Anna Estevao showed Ventura texts from September 2018 where she and Combs talk about potentially meeting up and hugging after having not seen each other in a while. “You don’t say anything to the effect of, last time we saw each other you ****** me?” Estevao asked. “Right,” Ventura responded. Estevao sought to show Ventura may have claimed Combs ****** her after getting caught cheating by her then-boyfriend, whom she has since married. The evidence phase of the trial began on Monday and is expected to last 8 to 10 weeks. It has drawn intense media coverage because of Combs’ wealth and towering influence in the music industry. Combs’ legal team wants to show the 12 jurors and six alternates that Ventura was violent with Combs herself, willingly took part in the Freak Offs and has financial motives against Combs. On Thursday, Estevao sought to undermine the prosecution claim that Combs coerced Ventura into participating. The lawyer showed jurors emails and texts where Ventura professed her love for Combs and told him she was eager for Freak Offs. In another text, Combs said there was no pressure to participate. Combs has been held since September in a Brooklyn jail when not in court. If convicted on all counts, he could face a minimum 15 years in prison and life behind bars. Part of the criminal case stems from Ventura’s November 2023 civil lawsuit against Combs. She testified that he agreed after 24 hours to settle for $US20 million ($A31 million). Asked on Wednesday why she decided to testify against Combs, Ventura said she could no longer bear the emotional burden of years of his abuse, and “came here to do the right thing”. Jurors on Tuesday saw a video of Combs attacking Ventura in a Los Angeles-area hotel in 2016, as well as photos of injuries she said Combs inflicted upon her during his frequent flights of rage. Combs apologised after the video was released by CNN last year. Combs has also been known as Puff Daddy and P Diddy. He founded Bad Boy Records, and is credited with helping turn artists like Mary J Blige, Faith Evans, Notorious B.I.G. and Usher into stars in the 1990s and 2000s. The trial began on Monday and could last two months. 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) National ******* Abuse and Redress Support Service 1800 211 028 Source link #Diddy #lawyer #seeks #undercut #prosecutions #***** #claim Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Five House Republicans stall Trump’s ‘big, beautiful’ tax bill Five House Republicans stall Trump’s ‘big, beautiful’ tax bill A budget bill, long touted by Donald Trump as the “big, beautiful bill” hit a roadblock on Friday when lawmakers from the president’s own party voted against it in congress. Five Republicans joined all Democrats in delivering a stunning setback to President Trump’s domestic agenda, demanding deeper budget cuts. Trump, who has muscled through close votes several times this year, urged lawmakers to unite behind the legislation. “We don’t need ‘GRANDSTANDERS’ in the Republican Party. STOP TALKING, AND GET IT DONE!,” he posted on Truth Social. The bill’s chances of success are not hopeless, but its failure gives the Trump administration its first legislative bruise of the year. Support for the bill among Republicans varies. Some hard-liners want to see the budget cuts go further, while other Republicans have expressed concern about cuts to programmes like Medicaid, which their constituents are dependent on. The five Republicans who voted against the measure in the procedural vote said they would continue to withhold support unless Speaker Mike Johnson agreed to further cut Medicaid, a healthcare programme for lower-income Americans. They also want Johnson to include a full repeal of green energy tax cuts, implemented by Democrats, in the bill. “This bill falls profoundly short,” said Texas Republican Chip Roy, who voted against the measure. “It does not do what we say it does with respect to deficits.” The proposed legislation would extend tax cuts implemented during Trump’s first administration. While Trump touts the bill’s inclusion of a no tax on tips policy, some critics argue the bill benefits wealthy Americans. Democrats, who overwhelmingly oppose the bill, have been urging the reconsideration of Medicaid cuts and spending cuts to the Affordable care Act which offers millions of Americans subsidised health insurance. “No other previous bill, no other previous law, no other previous event caused so many millions of Americans to lose their healthcare. Not even the Great Depression,” Pennsylvania Democrat Brendan Boyle said. If passed, the tax cuts would cost $3.72 trillion (£2.8t) over ten years, according to congress’s bipartisan Joint Tax Committee. Shock in Sweden at death of diplomat questioned for spying Shock in Sweden at death of diplomat questioned for spying Sweden’s foreign minister has spoken of grief among her colleagues after it emerged that a diplomat who was questioned this week on suspicion of spying has been found dead. The man, described as a high-ranking diplomat, was arrested by Sweden’s Säpo intelligence service on Sunday and released on Wednesday. He had denied wrongdoing, although prosecutors said he remained under suspicion. Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard released a statement saying her thoughts were with the diplomat’s family, friends and colleagues and said it had been a difficult day. She said she could not go into further details about the case. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Former foreign minister Carl Bildt described the “tragically deceased ambassador” as extremely gifted and competent, who had worked in various roles within the foreign ministry. Swedish reports said he had spent long periods stationed outside Europe, most recently as an ambassador. Asked to confirm whether the man who died was an ambassador, his lawyer Anton Strand said he had no comment. Images of the door to the diplomat’s flat on Swedish TV showed that it had been forced open at the time of his arrest. The diplomat had sought medical treatment for injuries and submitted a report alleging use of excessive force at the time. Säpo said the arrest had been peaceful. Mr Strand said in a statement to the BBC: “I have ensured his formal report about abuse during the arrest has arrived to the special investigations unit. An investigation has started regarding this.” Unconfirmed reports from public broadcaster SVT suggest Säpo had been investigating a possible link to the sudden resignation of the new national security adviser, Tobias Thyberg, who quit hours a day after taking on the role. Hours before he resigned, sensitive pictures of him on the dating app Grindr had been sent anonymously to the government. Mr Strand made no comment on that but said he had received the news of his client’s death early on Friday and his thoughts were with his family. Prosecutor Per Lindqvist told Swedish TV that the death was very regrettable and a preliminary investigation into suspected espionage was not complete. Swedish reports said the man was in his 50s and had returned to his home in central Stockholm temporarily after a long ******* abroad. Some banks still offer solid CD yields. Where you can lock in 4% or more Some banks still offer solid CD yields. Where you can lock in 4% or more There’s a silver lining in the uncertain path of the economy and Federal Reserve rate policy: Some banks are in a holding pattern and paying rich yields for certificates of deposit. Since the end of March, the average rate on a CD has been relatively unchanged, according to Morgan Stanley analyst Betsy Graseck. While 10 of the 38 banks in the firm’s coverage have pulled back their highest offered CD rate since then, the reductions were largely offset by some institutions’ move to raise their yields, she said in a May 9 note. Still, rates are down considerably since last year: The average highest rate has fallen 85 basis points since June 30, 2024, Morgan Stanley found. That’s less than the 100 basis-point reduction in benchmark lending rates made by the Federal Reserve in the second half of last year, however. One basis point equals 1/100th of a percent, or 0.01%. “Our expectation is CD rates stay stable in [the] short-term given uncertainty on the economy and the path of rates,” Graseck said. “Portfolio CD rates should still come down as older CDs reprice lower.” Even as the days of 5% annual percentage yields on CDs are in the past during the current rate cycle, there are still a few places that offer yields exceeding 4% on idle cash. Off peak but still solid “Rates are down from their peak but still attractive,” said Bankrate senior industry analyst Ted Rossman. Currently, the top one-year CD annual percentage yield (APY) available is 4.4%, and you can find it at Sallie Mae and Popular Direct , he said. For those who want to lock in rates for even longer, America First Credit Union has a 60-month CD with an APY of 4.2%. In comparison, the national average for a one-year CD is an APY of 2%, while the average yield on a five-year CD is 1.71%, according to Bankrate data. “There’s such a stark difference between that and the best yields, which are in the mid-4%,” Rossman said. “It doesn’t matter if the bank isn’t a household name, as long as it’s insured by the [Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.] or the [National Credit Union Administration].” The former agency covers deposits at banks, while the latter insures money held at credit unions. In both cases, savers are insured up to $250,000 per institution, per ownership category. Keep your goals in focus Don’t just jump at the opportunity for relatively risk-free yield. Investors should consider their timeline, the purpose for the money they’re stashing in a CD and whether they can keep their hands off it until maturity. That’s because savers are subject to a penalty if they make early withdrawals from their CD. Further, over the long run, these rates are unlikely to keep up with inflation, so the money you’ll need to tap years from now may be better off invested back in the market. “Maybe you’re trying to buy a house in the next year or two and the down payment goes into a one-year CD or you’re preparing to send a child to college in the next year,” Rossman said. “For the right person with the right time horizon, it makes sense.” Source link #banks #offer #solid #yields #lock Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle’s Best Side Quest Is About A Nazi Grifter Indiana Jones And The Great Circle’s Best Side Quest Is About A Nazi Grifter Indiana Jones and The Great Circle pits Dr. Henry Walton Jones, Jr. against his greatest foes, the fascist Nazi regime of the 1930s and ‘40s, once again. And in classic MachineGames fashion, it feels incredible to bash their heads in using, well, just about anything I can find. I’m not surprised by MachineGames’ handling of combat against Nazis – they’ve been in the business of letting players kill Nazis since helming the modern Wolfenstein games. As far as I’m concerned, they nearly perfected a more immersive-sim take on taking down Nazis in The Great Circle. One thing that did surprise me, though, was a side quest about an explorer named Annika. This “field work” mission, which is the game’s stand-in for a side quest, is one you can pick up near the end of Indy’s journey. As such, here’s your official spoiler warning to not continue if you haven’t yet beaten the game. Spoilers For Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Below After making your way to Sukhothai, Thailand, you’ll eventually receive a field work mission called “A Study In Fear.” After local leader Pailin asks you for help finding a mysterious stone in Wat Mahathat, you arrive at the site to find Nazis have blown up the architecture to find an entrance to an underground temple. Once you make your way in, you find another archaeologist named Annika needing help to advance further into the site. As the temple requires the hands of more than just one person, Indy and Annika team up. It doesn’t take long for the two to begin chatting, and we learn that Annika is actually working for Voss, the game’s main Nazi antagonist. From that point forward, Indy digs into this with Annika, questioning if she knows Voss is a Nazi, if she understands what that means in the wider world of archaeology, and if she even knows Voss’ grander plan in The Great Circle (which I won’t spoil here). She plays somewhat coy, acting as if she isn’t aware of Voss and his fascist allegiance’s intentions. Indy, not ready to take her out the way he does any other Nazi he runs into as Annika is needed for both of them to escape the temple, tries to explain to her what her working alliance with Voss means. MachineGames stops short of saying having dinner with a Nazi makes you a Nazi, or I guess to put it into game terms, choosing to be an archaeologist for a Nazi makes you a Nazi. But, as the two converse more, with Indy trying to understand why she’s working with Voss, pointing out how Nazis don’t understand the practice of archaeology, we learn Annika was a former student of Indy and asked him to write her a reference for an opportunity. Her reference became one of many that Indy couldn’t complete (he might’ve been busy in the Temple of Doom), and Annika doesn’t forget this, taking it as a personal attack. Annika’s sour grapes brings her into the fold of the Nazis, because I guess if a professor you like doesn’t give you the reference you want, the next step is to embrace fascism. At another point in my life, I likely would’ve laughed at this leap of logic. But in 2025, it’s not unbelievable – it’s reality. In any sector, be it games, movies, politics, or elsewhere, there are many examples of people who don’t get what they want, or are canceled (see: face consequences for their actions), and quickly become grifters. They feel pushed out of one space (again, being held accountable), and instead of owning it, apologizing, and taking steps to be a better person, they quickly switch to the once-opposition and somehow make a quick buck. This act is grifting, and it’s precisely what Annika does. She doesn’t get what she wants from Indy and jumps ship to join his hated enemies. Sure, Annika does get what she wants from this fascist regime – the chance to be an archaeologist professionally – but she’s doing it for literal Nazis. She hints at this throughout this mission, but eventually drops the act after the duo find what they’re looking for. Instead of helping Indy escape, she tricks him, letting him know that she’s very aware of what Voss is and what his plans are, and that she has no problem being a part of it before kicking Indy into a pit to his presumed death. Fortunately, Indy escapes, but not before discovering that Annika got ****** and careless, and lost an arm in the process (found crushed by a door and separated from her body). Indy remarks casually that she got what she deserved, and it’s a great moment. At no point does Indy justify Annika’s actions or sympathize – he pushes back immediately, calling her out for what she is because there’s no sympathazing or humanizing a Nazi. She’s far too greedy and vengeful to listen to any of Indy’s warnings, giving up morals and humanity in the name of revenge. It’s 1937, so she isn’t quite able to start a podcast or YouTube channel like her ilk might in 2025, but she is embraced by the Nazis all the same. There’s a lot I love about how MachineGames handled this narrative vignette with Annika. I love that immediately, Indy is like “wait, what, why on Earth would you work for them? That is wild and unforgivable. Stop this.” I also love that MachineGames shows no compassion or humanity for Annika, eventually revealing she knows her true role and she’s morally okay with it. And finally, the developer makes certain that Annika gets what she deserves in the form of a smashed arm, which will make her future archaeological adventures more difficult. It’s not quite the shovel upside the head or the hammer to the skull Indy delivers to the countless other Nazis in The Great Circle, but it’s satisfying all the same. I appreciate MachineGames using a side quest to dive even deeper into the way Nazis work, their careless regard for history and humanity in the chase for power, and their punishment for doing this. In a game filled with opportunities to immediately silence Nazis before they can get a word in (the typically proper way to deal with them), it’s also nice to let one say all the stupid stuff we expect to come out of their mouths before putting them in their place. That’s the message of Annika’s story: the grift will eventually bite you in the ****. While The Great Circle is a bit more detached in how that happens here – in this instance, nature handed Annika her comeuppance – it’s still satisfying to watch a developer fully explore this cycle. 4 Gemini announcements I can’t wait to hear at Google I/O this year 4 Gemini announcements I can’t wait to hear at Google I/O this year Google I/O is upon us next week, and as always, there’s sure to be an avalanche of new products, features, and upgrades unveiled amid the hoopla on stage. Google Gemini and its many AI offshoots will certainly be a part of them. Confirmed previews and rumors of more abound, but there are some that I’m particularly keen to hear. I’ve put together a set of highlights I anticipate coming from Google as it shares the next stage of its plans for Gemini. Project Mariner’s AI agents (Image credit: Future) Project Mariner is Google’s answer to the growing prevalence of AI agents like Manus and Browser Use. Rather than simply surfacing links, Mariner is designed to interact with the web the way a human does, using an invisible mouse and keyboard to fill in forms, find things within websites, and click the necessary buttons to complete tasks. Mariner might fill out your tax forms, book a trip, and send in any complaints you have to a company’s customer service. Though not strictly Gemini, Google DeepMind’s creation is very much part of the story of Gemini helping automate digital activities for people. In fact, Mariner is supposedly going to integrate with Gemini Advanced and Google Chrome. This would be especially impactful for people who manage repetitive admin tasks, navigate government or insurance websites, or simply want a more efficient way to handle online chores. You may like Gemini’s personal memory (Image credit: Shutterstock / cono0430) Persistent memory is a constant, but usually an imperfectly realized dream of generative AI assistants. Google is expected to unveil an upgrade to Gemini’s memory that will mean no longer needing to remind the AI of your preferences. Gemini could remember that you dislike morning meetings, prefer metric units, or always book aisle seats on flights. Like ChatGPT’s memory system, Gemini is expected to both remember things from interactions with you as well as offer a custom instructions setting where you can manually add things you want it to remember. Of course, Google is likely to assure users that the persistent memory feature is opt-in and that it includes controls allowing users to view, edit, and delete what Gemini remembers. Imagen 4 and Veo 3 (Image credit: Google) Imagen and Veo are Google’s generative AI image and video creation tools, respectively. Google is expected to debut the latest versions of both at I/O. Imagen 4 is supposed to be much better at photorealistic images and matching the actual prompts. It should also be better at staying consistent in whatever style you request. Veo 3 is also going for a more consistent style from clip to clip. They’ll also be integrated with Gemini for easy access to content creators, students, and really anyone who wants a quick picture or video. Sharing Gems (Image credit: Google) Gemini Gems, the customized and focused Gemini models any user can create, are useful for all kinds of activities. You can make your own motivational coach, a meal-planning nutritionist, or an art critic for your latest drawings. What you can’t do right now is share them with other people. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Gems are basically like the custom GPTs available from ChatGPT, except GPTs are shareable and findable in the GPT Store. Google is expected to match that and start allowing users to share their Gems with others. You might see everything from a classroom-specific tutoring Gem, tools for coding for different outlets, or just a bunch of Gems designed to recommend movies. And a Gem marketplace isn’t just a benefit to users. Google would love to build up the community around Gemini like it has with apps on the Play Store. Shareable Gems might be the best gateway to that kind of community-driven ecosystem.
