Italian Open: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz set up blockbuster final
Jannik Sinner set up a blockbuster Italian Open final against Carlos Alcaraz, after the world number one fought from behind to beat American Tommy Paul.
Playing on home soil in his first tournament since a three-month doping ban, Sinner was made to fight before eventually overcoming the 11th seed 1-6 6-0 6-3.
In front of a packed and partisan centre court in Rome, the 23-year-old stretched his unbeaten run to 26 matches and moved one win away from being the first Italian to win their home open since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
Earlier on Friday, Alcaraz dashed home hopes of an all-Italian final by beating Lorenzo Musetti 6-3 7-6 (7-4).
Four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz looks in good shape for the French Open later this month as he reached a fourth final of the season by winning in straight sets in just over two hours.
For Musetti, it was a fifth straight loss to the Spaniard having also lost on clay in the Monte Carlo final last month.
The 23-year-old gave up three breaks of serve and made 29 unforced errors in the first set, and was warned by the umpire after slamming his racket into the clay.
Both men exchanged breaks at the start of the second set and Musetti moved 4-3 ahead with some spectacular shots, but Alcaraz broke back in game eight – causing his furious opponent to smash his ball into the stands.
Alcaraz, 22, kept his cool to win the tie-break 7-4, and set up the final every tennis fan wanted.

Firm posts lucrative office cat-sitting job
If you can maintain regular feeding, grooming and playing with a cat, you might be in with a chance for this job.
Other requirements are to play it classical music every Friday, and make a monthly visit to a luxury department store to buy new toys.
But this is not a cat-sitting ad for an eccentric private individual. It’s a job ad to look after a company’s office cat called Jerry.
The pay for the role has raised eyebrows, with the rate advertised at between £65 and £100 an hour, depending on experience.
The firm says it is looking for one or two candidates to commit to a total of 40 hours per week, although the actual hours worked are expected to be much lower – between 8 to 12 hours a week for someone working part-time.
Duties include providing fresh milk and food, “gentle daily grooming” and creating a “respectful environment suitable for a sensitive animal”.
The company advertising the job runs an aviation marketplace based in central London.
Jerry the British Shorthair belongs to its boss Viktor Martynov, who started bringing him in as he was spending so much time in the office and on business trips.
“I think for cats it’s not very good,” he told World Business Report.
He said bringing Jerry into the office also improved staff morale.
“Everybody wants to **** him and he also cheers up my colleagues, they have more motivation to come to the office right now,” Mr Martynov said.
The sales team even has a morning tradition of touching the cat at the start of the day for good luck.
And Mr Martynov says Jerry once even helped get a deal on a business jet over the line.
In the middle of tense negotiations, Jerry jumped on to the client’s lap.
“It turned out that he’s a cat lover and his mood immediately changed.
“So you could say that Jerry also helped us with our work.”
The company, Aviamarket, says it has already had more than 250 applications for the role.
The advert asks for previous experience looking after animals and “excellent time management”.
It’s not the only bizarre job ad to have cropped up on a jobs listing site.
In 2023 Blackpool Zoo asked for candidates to become official seagull scarers, which involved dressing up as birds.
Over the years, many food and drink companies have advertised for “professional tasters” for things like beer and chocolate.
And last year, the Tasmanian tourist board posted “adverts” for jobs including wallaby walker and paranormal investigator, in a bid to encourage more tourism to the island during the off-season.

The games have received multiple ports across a variety of systems prior, with notable entries being on the PC and Nintendo Switch. However, Red Dead Redemption 2 still remains unavailable on the Nintendo Switch as of today, but the Switch 2’s launch might change things in the near future.
Red Dead Redemption 2 might be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2
As per a recent report from Nintendo and GameReactor, Rockstar Games seems to be working on a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch 2. This second entry in the Red Dead franchise is expected to be released sometime later next year.

Taking all rumors into account, the game should be released for the Nintendo Switch 2 before March 31, 2026, at the end of Rockstar Games’ current fiscal year. This is reallyn’t too far away and is something to look forward to.
Nintendo has been making some big moves recently with its upcoming handheld-docked-console hybrid, and one of its prime areas of focus seems to be third-party support for this generation.
As such, Rockstar Games releasing the game for Switch 2 users makes total sense, especially given that its predecessor already received a port of the first game. For the uninitiated, Red Dead Redemption is already available for the Nintendo Switch.
The game runs surprisingly well on the console and maintains a solid 30 frames per second on both handheld and docked modes.

All things considered, however, the Switch 2 could realistically be getting Red Dead Redemption 2 before the end of 2025, unless there are any additional delays.
Another curious thing to note here would be that the alleged report also mentioned next-gen remasters of the first game for current-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Keep in mind that this report is based on rumors and does not guarantee the release of the game for the Switch 2. Only time will tell if this holds up.
The Switch 2 is more than capable of playing the game
To make things clear, Red Dead Redemption 2 was built with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in mind. Given that it is a last-generation title, the game runs spectacularly well on weaker systems, such as the Steam Deck.
As such, the Nintendo Switch 2 should be quite capable of running the game on its own. After all, the Switch 2 is slightly more powerful than a PS4 Pro while docked, and comes with DLSS upscaling, which should make a noticeable impact in performance.
Coupled with its 12 GB of unified system memory and the custom Nvidia APU, the Switch 2 should theoretically be able to run the game without any hiccups. After all, the console is noted to play demanding titles such as Cyberpunk: 2077 with ease.
Don’t expect it to be able to run Red Dead Redemption 2 with maxed-out visual fidelity or even 60 FPS either, though. A more reasonable expectation would be 30 FPS gameplay with a mixture of Medium-High settings across both modes.

Why history might hold the answer for stricken Liberals
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, as the aphorism goes.
For the Liberal Party, the lessons to be learned after a historic election defeat eerily resemble a re-run of a schooling the party received decades earlier.
Women and young people abandoned the conservatives, multicultural communities lost faith and there was a prominent drop in support among metropolitan voters.
Those findings from a 1983 review into the blistering election defeat of then-Liberal prime minister Malcolm Fraser mirror problems raised by party members after the party’s 2025 loss.
Fresh thinking was needed, the talents of women should be better utilised and there had to be better communication with young people, then-Liberal president John Valder found, noting parties that ignored change didn’t survive.
One of those points has been addressed after the most recent electoral defeat with the appointment of Sussan Ley as the first female leader of the federal Liberals.
But she still faces a monumental challenge with a loss of frontbench talent and the need to re-establish what the Liberals stand for with voters, experts and party insiders say.
The wipeout under Peter Dutton on May 3 was proportionally worse than Mr Fraser’s defeat, reducing the Liberals to just 30 per cent of lower house seats – its worst position in the post-war era.
In addition to their greater parliamentary presence, the 1983 Liberals also retained a lot more experience on their front bench, political historian Josh ****** said.
There was “an obvious dearth of apparent talent” this time around, meaning the path forward would need to be different, he told AAP.
Outgoing Liberal prime minister Scott Morrison was criticised in the aftermath of his 2022 defeat – at that time the party’s worst in 70 years – for abandoning inner-city seats that were won by teal independents and instead targeting the outer suburbs.
Mr Dutton has been accused of unsuccessfully trying the same playbook that backfired three years earlier.
But the outer suburbs targeted by the coalition were no longer the working-class areas successfully won over by former Liberal prime minister John Howard, pollster Kos Samaras said.
They were now incredibly diverse, often populated by young, immigrant families.
Liberals who thought Howard-era thinking still prevailed were “quite ignorant of the Australia they live in”, Mr Samaras said.
The party needed to become more empathetic and tolerant, including by abandoning its perceived anti-immigration sentiments, he said.
Young, working-class men of Indian heritage in their 20s and 30s, who on the face of it might vote Liberal, did not rally behind the party.
When asked why, they would reply, “Oh, they don’t like us”, Mr Samaras added.
“(The Liberals are) going to have to grab that dog whistle, dig a big hole and bury it and never dig it up again,” he said.
Some among the Liberals question how the party of Robert Menzies, which was formed in conjunction with the *********** Women’s National League, also failed to appeal to the female demographic so badly.
There was no clear start to the Liberals’ women problem but rather decades of incremental decisions, Dr ****** said.
Challenges started emerging by the 1970s, when that generation of Liberal politicians were less comfortable sharing power with women compared to those in the Menzies era, he said.
By the 1990s, the Liberals were adamant about not moving to a quota system for pre-selecting women despite the Labor Party making the change.
Senior conservative Liberals also came out in the 2000s against issues like easier access to abortions, he said.
“There are key milestones like this that meant by the 2010s, a real women problem had emerged,” Dr ****** added.
Western Sydney MP Melissa McIntosh, one of the few Liberals to hold their outer-suburban seats, said her party had already heeded the message from the election by electing its first female leader.
But it still needed to do a better job communicating what it stood for, she said.
“We have beliefs that women would resonate with talking about equality for all, that’s a core belief of the Liberal Party,” she said.
The Liberals also face a cultural shift, with support for the party plummeting among millennial and Gen Z voters, many of whom have turned to minor parties or independents.
They included people who can’t afford a house and the first generation facing a future in which they would be worse off than their parents, Mr Samaras said.
That cohort of voters did not share the same views as baby boomers had when they were younger, he said, changing the Liberals path back to government compared to the post-Fraser years.
The last time the Liberals were down as low, they were consigned to 13 years in opposition and five consecutive election defeats before Mr Howard’s 1996 victory.
Ms Ley has already made history once by becoming leader and she will need to do it again if she wants to avoid a repeat of the party’s last stint in the wilderness.

Although this entry in the franchise was received well, it’s still filled with controversies, which puts a lot of pressure on Halo 7.
At this point, we have no clear idea of what Halo 7 will look like or even if it’s in development. Halo Studios has remained silent on the franchise’s future. However, if the game avoids repeating Halo Infinite‘s missteps and drops these disliked features, it could be a major success no matter its direction.
Halo 7 must abandon these features, or it’s a flop
343 Industries’ takeover of the Halo IP hasn’t produced the results Microsoft hoped for. However, in October 2024, it was revealed that the studio will have a complete rebrand to Halo Studios alongside a big shake-up regarding leadership, game development, and hiring processes.
Clearly, Microsoft is ushering in a new era for the Halo franchise, offering both veteran and fresh developers a clean slate to present Halo 7. Fans are hopeful and have already started making a wishlist of things they’d love to see Halo Studios bring to the next title.
However, they’re also hoping two features will be abandoned: emotes and skins featuring characters from other games.
It’s fair to say that microtransactions are one of the most controversial topics in the video gaming industry. We’ve seen more and more developers leaning into this model. So, when Halo Infinite also jumped on board with its trend, it wasn’t a surprise.
However, the introduction of a battle pass system, alongside things such as emotes and skins, didn’t really go down well with the hardcore section of fans. They’ve always despised these additions and believe they take time away from development, which could’ve been used to refine the experience or bring more story-based expansions.

It’s not just that, either, a Spartan dabbing or dancing after killing a fellow soldier just doesn’t feel right. Although we haven’t seen skins from other franchises in the Halo games so far, it’s an idea that might be explored in future entries.
So, it’s time for Halo Studios to listen to players’ wishes and drop these hated features in Halo 7. The franchise can’t afford yet another failure because it does not cater to players.

As we’ve stated before, we know little about Halo 7 right now. It’s still unclear when it will hit the shelves or if it will be released for PlayStation consoles. However, one thing’s for certain: Halo 7 will be built using the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.
As part of the rebrand last year, Halo Studios announced that all the upcoming entries in the Halo franchise will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. According to the development team, the decision to move past the in-house Slipspace engine was to focus more on making games, rather than tools and engines.
Game developers have repeatedly stated that Unreal Engine 5 is much easier to work with. Now that Halo has also made the jump to Epic Games’ property, we’re likely to see more projects at a faster rate. It will be interesting to see how Halo 7 takes advantage of the engine, considering what it can bring to the table.

Venezuela’s Jhonattan Vegas has maintained his PGA Championship lead despite a last-hole double-bogey while Australia’s challenge in the season’s second major has taken a hit at Quail Hollow.
Overnight leader Vegas had been on course to enjoy a substantial halfway lead on Friday when he came to the last in his second round with a four-shot advantage over the field.
But that was soon halved after he made a mess of a bunker shot at 18 and then missed a tiddler of a putt to finish with a second-round 70 to go with his brilliant opening seven-under 64.
His lacklustre finish gave fresh hope to all his pursuers, including Australians Cam Davis and Adam Scott, who currently sit at two-under at halfway.
Davis, five under after his first round, had a disappointing follow-up, slumping to a three-over 74, while veteran Scott, who’d started impressively from the 10th hole, also had a double bogey at 18 that halted his momentum.
Vegas held the clubhouse lead at eight under, two shots ahead of Frenchman Matthieu Pavon (65) and three clear of Max Homa, who had the day’s best round of 64 with the later starters still to finish.
“It was a great day,” said Vegas, who before this week had never held the lead or co-lead in a major championship and was determined not to be put off by his anti-climactic finish.
“I can’t really get to down on myself for making a double on 18 even thought I wish I didn’t make that.
“I just have to remember the good stuff and keep it up for two more days.”
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, whose opening 69 was the lowest score from his high-profile group, Masters champ Rory McIlroy (74) and defending champion Xander Schauffele (72) were all among the late starters.
US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau had a three-under-par 68 but capped his day with a disappointing bogey that left him five shots back of Vegas.
For Australia’s former British Open champion Cameron Smith, though, there was no way back after his opening-day 78 as his level-par second round ensured he would miss the cut, which was set to be at one over.
That left former winner Jason Day, who was one over after 10, and Elvis Smyllie, also on that mark after his second-round 73, in some peril, while Min Woo Lee (five over after 9) and Karl Vilips (six over after 8) looked set for a weekend off.
Other notables in the clubhouse at risk of missing the cut were defending champion Xander Schauffele, 2017 winner Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Ludvig Abverg and Masters runner-up Justin Rose.

Shire of Pingelly declares it won’t back down on mission to contain cats through Save the Numbats Local Law
The Shire of Pingelly is on a mission to save the numbats and is prepared to take its battle all the way to State Parliament’s Upper House.
The numbat is WA’s animal emblem and although the shire’s Save the Numbats Local Law will come into operation on May 23 it still faces a final legal hurdle from WA’s Joint Standing Committee of Delegated Legislation.
If the JSCDL does not approve the new law, it can tell the shire to start the process all over again, which Pingelly CEO Andrew Dover says the shire will resist by taking the matter up the chain to the Legislative Council.
“This local law has never been tested at the Upper House, so we are happy to take it there, if necessary,” he said.
“If they knock it back, it will seem like they are voting against saving numbats, which is not a good look.
“We believe we have ticked all the boxes so we just have to wait until we hear from them.”
Numbats, or banded anteaters, are an endangered species with WA’s only wild populations at Dryandra Nature Reserve, in the Shire of Narrogin, and Perup Nature Reserve in the Shire of Manjimup.
Cats and foxes are their main predators and it is cats which are the main target of Pingelly’s new law.

The shire wants to restrict **** owners to two cats and for them to be contained on the owner’s property.
If anyone wants to keep more, they will have to apply to the council for a permit.
Mr Dover said there would have to be a common sense approach to policing the law and the shire would be looking at ways to help with containment, perhaps by providing grants for cat runs or “catios”.
Pingelly’s previous attempt to inaugurate a local cat law was knocked back on a technicality in 2024.
This time they have used the Shire of Narrogin’s successful template from 2016 to make sure it goes through unhindered.
The 2011 Cat Act already says domestic cats over six months old must be registered, tagged, micro-chipped and sterilised, with non-compliance risking the seizure of the **** and $5000 fines.
However, some shires have felt it does not go far enough to protect wildlife against feral cats or domestic animals whose owners have not had them desexed, or who let them roam.
Dr Louis O’Neill, an ecologist with the *********** Wildlife Conservancy, welcomed the Shire of Pingelly’s new law.
“Predation by cats was a significant cause of the numbats’ decline and is an ongoing threat,” he said.
“There are significant conservation efforts to protect the last wild numbats, with a focus on reducing cat predation.
“I wholeheartedly welcome proposals to contain domestic cats, to protect native wildlife including numbats.
“It has also been shown that containing cats is beneficial for the health and wellbeing of cats.”

A new DNA study has traced how early indigenous peoples traveled from Asia to the Americas, revealing that some reached the far south of South America about 14,500 years ago. The findings also highlight key health challenges still affecting modern Indigenous populations.
The study, published May 15 in Science, involved an international team of scientists who analyzed DNA from 1,537 individuals across 139 ethnic groups. Their work sheds new light on one of the longest human migrations in history.
Research indicates that individuals traversed a land bridge that formerly linked Asia and North America during the last Ice Age. As they moved across the continent, the population split into three groups.
One group continued moving south over many generations until settling in Patagonia, at the southern tip of South America.
The earliest split is linked to extreme climate conditions
The team used data from the GenomeAsia 100K project, which includes populations tied to early migrations. They identified three key periods when groups separated.
The first major split happened between 26,800 and 19,300 years ago, during a cold ******* called the Last Glacial Maximum. This was when the ancestors of Indigenous Americans separated from people living in northern Eurasia.
The timing supports evidence from White Sands, New Mexico, where ancient footprints and track marks between 23,000 and 21,000 years ago confirm that people lived in North America during that time.
Southward movement formed four Indigenous groups
The second population split occurred between 17,500 and 14,600 years ago, when some North American groups moved south.
Around 13,900 years ago, this group split again into four branches: the Chaco Amerindians (linked to the Pueblo peoples of the southwestern U.S.), and three South American groups—Amazonians, Andeans, and Patagonians.
“Our estimation actually fits well with the archaeological records” of people in Patagonia, said co-author Hie Lim Kim, a population geneticist at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Excavations have shown that humans lived in that area about 14,500 years ago.
Kim added that once people settled in different regions, it took time for them to develop new and unique genetic patterns.
Genetic diversity decline weakened immune defenses
Over thousands of years, genetic diversity among Indigenous groups decreased. Researchers say this happened due to natural geographic barriers and massive population loss following European colonization.
One important finding was the loss of genetic variations linked to immune system strength. These genes, called HLA genes (human leukocyte antigen), help protect against diseases.
In regions like Southeast Asia, where disease exposure is high, people show more variety in these genes. But Indigenous South American genomes revealed much lower diversity, possibly making them more vulnerable to new illnesses introduced by colonizers.
Study calls for more inclusive medical research
The DNA study of Indigenous peoples also points to ongoing health risks today. Some Indigenous populations carry gene variants that make them more likely to experience harmful reactions to common medications.
“Most existing medicines were developed based on studies of European populations, often excluding Indigenous populations,” Kim said.
She urged the need for health strategies that consider these unique genetic backgrounds. Researchers say personalized medical care could improve health outcomes for Indigenous communities across the Americas.

LOS ANGELES/HONG KONG (Reuters) -Container ship bookings for China-to-U.S. cargo have surged since the countries declared a 90-day truce on punitive ****-for-tat tariffs last weekend, operators said, spawning traffic jams at ******** ports and factories that could take weeks to clear.
U.S. importers of sneakers and sofas to construction supplies and auto parts are racing to get goods in before the deadline resets tariffs again, setting the stage for disruptions that recall the global transport quagmire during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cargo surge at major trade gateways like Shenzhen’s Yantian Port, which handles more than a quarter of China’s exports to the United States, has ship owners scrambling to coordinate berths and adjust vessel schedules.
“The demand is so high that we can only serve customers who have made long-term contracts with us,” a spokesperson for ******* container ship operator Hapag-Lloyd told Reuters. “We have hardly enough space for spontaneous bookings.”
Container-tracking software provider Vizion said average bookings for the seven days ended on Wednesday soared 277% to 21,530 20-foot equivalent units from the 5,709 TEU average for the week ended May 5.
Owners of factories that make toys to holiday decor told Reuters they are booking previously frozen cargo headed to U.S. stores, including Walmart.
Lalo, for example, which sells its baby furniture online and through retailers like Target and Amazon.com, is among the companies that gave factories the green light to move their finished orders.
“We had hundreds of thousands of units waiting to ship,” said Lalo co-founder Michael Weider. “These products can now get on the water.”
“Everybody is very busy from my company, at my friend’s companies,” said Richard Lee, CEO of NCL Logistics, in China’s southern metropolis of Shenzhen. “They are preparing a lot of cargo, a lot of products, to be shipped immediately from China to the U.S.”
SECOND TSUNAMI?
The shipping surge will translate into a rush of arrivals at U.S. West Coast ports in the coming weeks.
Still, industry experts, including the executive director of the Port of Los Angeles – the busiest U.S. seaport and No. 1 for ocean shipments from China, do not foresee a COVID-level tsunami of cargo. Rather, they project a large, but manageable wave.
On Thursday, the off-contract spot rate from Shanghai to Los Angeles shot up 16% from the prior week to $3,136 per 40-foot container, according to data from maritime consultancy Drewry. That is less than half than in April 2024, but could jump sharply on June 1 to about $6,000 per container if ship owners push through rate increases.

In the early days of the pandemic, as now, cargo demand spikes overwhelmed factories and container ships, kinking supply chains. Shipping and retail experts said 90 days is not enough time for most factories to fill new orders.
Fewer slots are available on cargo ships because vessel owners had been culling China-to-U.S. voyages and schedules. Now, ocean carriers are “cancelling cancellations” of sailings, Drewry said.
Demand, however, is markedly different this time.
Trump‘s second-term tariffs have weakened U.S. retail sales, homebuilding and manufacturing – key drivers of container shipments.
Moreover, many U.S. companies are sitting on inventory accumulated before Trump imposed tariffs on China and other countries. And nobody knows what import duties will be when the 90-day deadline expires in August.
The Trump administration confirmed to Reuters that the U.S. rate would reset to 54%, assuming no agreement is reached by the deadline.
HIGH ANXIETY
Many retailers are prioritizing which products to order and ship, said Jessica Dankert, vice president of supply chain for the Retail Industry Leaders Association trade group, whose members include Home Depot, Gap and Dollar General.
“It’s still 30% at the end of the day,” said Jamie Salter, CEO of Authentic Brands Group, referring to tariffs on China. Authentic Brands owns and licenses clothing brands including Reebok, Champion, and Forever 21.
Some large suppliers to Detroit’s Big Three automakers told Reuters that on customers’ requests, they are flying in parts from China and stockpiling them.
Others declined to add to inventories, saying they lacked the space and funds to do so.
A Halloween goods exporter from the city of Yiwu in China, who gave her English name, Cecilia, said tariff increases have cut total orders in half this year and warned that prospective buyers are running out of time.
“If you order now, you will have an anxious wait to see if it will be too late,” she said.
Jimmy Zollo, CEO at Joe and Bella, sells ********-made clothing for adults who have trouble dressing themselves due to arthritis, dementia or being in a wheelchair. He placed a new order with his supplier even though the 90-day window could close before he can take delivery.
“We’re hopeful that a new trade agreement is implemented, and the lowered tariffs do not expire,” Zollo said.

In the words of Tim Sweeney, Apple has blocked Fortnite submission from app review to stop Epic from doing business. Until and unless Apple decides to unblock them, iOS won’t be seeing the release of Fortnite on the platform.

Fortnite has been long-awaited for iOS devices, but Apple’s greed has stopped it on multiple occasions. The same is still true to this date. On May 9, 2025, Fortnite officially announced that they’ve submitted an approval request for launching Fortnite on the Apple App Store in the United States. However, nothing has happened till now, and Epic Games is left hanging.

Apple’s developer website states that most of its submitted applications are reviewed within a day. To let the requester know, they send an email regarding the status. It looks like that didn’t happen; instead, only a week later, the Fortnite official channel revealed that they’ve been blocked by Apple.
Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.
Apple did win the court battle against Epic Games in April 2023; however, they still hold grudges. It’s blatant, as Apple was asked to allow the release of Fortnite after a long fight. Not only that, but Apple cannot charge commission fees for purchases made outside of the App Store. That decision applies to all apps.
Update: We need to release a weekly Fortnite update with new content this Friday, and all platforms must update simultaneously. So we have pulled the previous Fortnite version submitted to Apple App Review last Friday, and we have submitted a new version for review.

Usually, Apple was allowed to take 30% of the money made through apps on their platform. Now that option is completely gone due to Epic Games, they are punishing it by blocking Fortnite on their platform. Fans are hating Apple for being so petty.
Is it right for Apple to make such a decision to monopolize the competitive market?
In honesty, no. A single company shouldn’t control the whole market; that’s not fair and doesn’t allow competition. Shutting down Fortnite, despite having the right to do so, isn’t right. Tim Sweeney thinks that Apple might be “weaponizing” its App Review process to stop Epic Games.
A follow-up email regarding the negligence was sent to Apple on May 13, 2025, but nothing has been heard since then. Tim Sweeney says, “There is no way a rapidly evolving multi-platform game like Fortnite can operate if platforms use their power or processes to obstruct,” which is true.
There was once a time when Apple took the world and revolutionized the tech industry completely. But this isn’t the first time for Apple to block competition. Apple didn’t adopt RCS for a long time, and Android dissed it as they were using SMS/MMS, which wasn’t secure. Later on, Apple folded as they brought the feature with iOS.
What does that have to do with Epic Games? Here’s a short gist: Apple didn’t adopt RCS because it preferred iMessage. It was better than using traditional SMS, but Apple romanticized its lack of features to avoid being called backward. Apple is not new to restricting its users; they want their users to not seek others but only them.
This is what is happening with Epic Games now, as allowing Fortnite on iOS means they don’t get anything from it. But isn’t that fair competition? If you don’t have a product that can compete, you don’t block it for your benefit. It’s best that Apple comes to its senses and allows the release of Fortnite. But for now, the reality is that it is not getting released on iOS for the time being.

At only three years old, Colton Burpo inspired millions with his vision of going to heaven after nearly dying of a ruptured appendix more than 20 years ago.
Burpo’s near-death experience inspired the popular book and movie “Heaven Is for Real.” Years later, the 25-year-old continues sharing his incredible story.
“When I was three years old, almost four, I had a ruptured appendix,” he told CBN News. “I had appendicitis, doctors misdiagnosed it, they didn’t catch it for about five days — and, then, when the doctors finally figured out what was going on, I went into emergency surgery.”
During the ordeal, Burpo believes he experienced a supernatural, near-death encounter that allowed him to meet Jesus and experience heaven.
“I remember lifting out of my body, I looked down, I saw the doctors — they were working on me,” he said. “My mom, I saw her in one room. She was like on the phone talking with people, praying. My dad, he was in another room, and he was praying very loudly at God.”
Burpo continued, “And, at the moment, I was freaking out. I had no idea what was going on. Then I was sitting on Jesus’s lap, and He had some angels sing to me to calm me down.”

His description of meeting Christ, as well as deceased family members, inspired many to think more deeply about heaven and the gospel. Today, Burpo is a married, first-time dad with a powerful calling.
“He has called me to be a godly man, a godly husband, now a godly dad, and, when it comes to the supernatural — or what is waiting for us, I’m not afraid to meet Jesus again one day,” he said. “I’m looking forward to that day.”
For now, Burpo, who works as a worship pastor and electrician, believes God now has him on a more essential mission.
“My mindset right now is, instead of being so caught up in what’s waiting for me, I’m going to focus on the here and now,” he said. “I’m going to live my life in a way that honors Christ. If I can, while I’m down here, I’m going to try and get as many people to come with me to heaven. So, I’ve been able to view it more as a mission instead of, ‘I wish I was in heaven again.'”
Burpo still travels America sharing his story through his family’s organization, Heaven Is for Real Ministries. And while near-death experiences remain a debated phenomenon, for many, these stories are inspirational reminders of the hope we have in heaven.

Where is Melania Trump?
No, not the rarely seen first lady, but the statue made in her likeness that watched over her nearby hometown, Sevnica, Slovenia.
The life-size bronze statue, 15 minutes outside Sevnica, disappeared from its perch this week. The theft was reported on Tuesday, the police said. But it’s not clear when, exactly, it was taken, Alenka Drenik, a spokeswoman for the police, said by phone on Friday.
“Police are still assessing the theft, and an investigation is still ongoing,” Ms. Drenik added.
Residents of Sevnica have their suspicions. Some in the town of about 5,000 people in eastern Slovenia say it could have been an act of vandalism; others say it was probably melted down for cash. None of the people interviewed thought, however, that the statue’s disappearance had been in any way political.
“Melania is rarely seen in the spotlight or anywhere else, and even when she does do something, it’s so bizarre, so I don’t even want to think about her that much,” said Igor Pavkovic, who has lived in Sevnica all his life and recalled laughing when he first saw the statue.
The expressionless sculpture, its arm raised in a tight wave, never quite captured the heart of Sevnica’s residents. Originally made of wood, it was hacked from a linden tree and unveiled in 2019 by an artist who used a chain saw to create a very, very rough likeness of the first lady.
Painted powder blue to reflect the cashmere dress and gloves that Ms. Trump wore to her husband’s first inauguration, in 2017, the statue stood nine feet tall. But it was derided as resembling a scarecrow or a Smurf. Anonymous arsonists set the statue on fire on July 4, 2020.
A bronze replacement was erected later that year. Now, only the statue’s heavy Cubist feet, hacked off at the ankles, remain on the tree trunk that had served as the statue’s plinth. It had stood in a lonely field, far away from the municipal apartment block where Ms. Trump grew up and the school she attended. The privately owned field overlooks the Sava River and a verdant valley, but only runners and cyclists would have regularly crossed paths with the statue.
Both the wood and metal iterations had been commissioned by an American artist, Brad Downey, who worked with local artisans to create the sculptures. Mr. Downey said at the time that he saw it as an interrogation of President Trump’s harsh stance on immigration.
“The idea to commission the first monument to Melania has some cheekiness to it, but I wanted to do a serious investigation there,” Mr. Downey said.
While no one has claimed responsibility for the statue’s disappearance, it vanished at a time when public dissatisfaction with Mr. Trump’s second-term policies have been expressed globally through vandalism of Tesla vehicles, the electric car company owned by Elon Musk, Mr. Trump’s adviser. Satirical advertisements mocking both men have also popped up around London in recent weeks.
Few in Sevnica said they would miss the statue.
“I only saw it in pictures, and I thought it was very unesthetic,” said Nena Bedek, an art teacher who said she had gone to school with Ms. Trump. “I had the feeling someone was making fun.”
“We were all ashamed of the statue when it was first unveiled, especially Melania and the Knavs family,” Bruno Vidmar, a hotelier whose business has thrived off the factory town’s tenuous claim to the White House. Ms. Trump’s businessman father, Victor Knavs, has been known to stop by Mr. Vidmar’s hotel for dinner when he’s in town.
Ms. Trump was born in Novo Mesto, and her family later moved to Sevnica. She left in 1985 and has not been seen there since. That hasn’t stopped the town from capitalizing on its most famous ambassador. Ms. Trump has inspired coffee, chocolate and comfy slippers, all cleverly branded to avoid copyright claims.
In a gift shop hangs an amateur painting that merges the facade of the White House with Sevnica’s other famous attraction — a 12th-century castle. A patisserie in Mr. Vidmar’s hotel serves a slice of Melania: a white chocolate, cream and mascarpone sponge cake, drizzled with walnuts, pistachios and sesame seeds. Mr. Vidmar’s wife came up with the recipe during Mr. Trump’s first term, the hotelier said.
Locals say it’s fresh and elegant — like Ms. Trump.
“We can be proud of her that she is the first lady now for the second time,” said Meri Kelemina, who lives in a village near where the statue one stood.
She added that the statue and its location had done little for the town and had not flattered Sevnica’s most famous former resident.
“I think she deserves a nice landmark,” she said.

However, it’s the Fallout community; the entire threat was filled with dark stories of chaos and cold choices that’ll give you chills.
Most of the Fallout fans haven’t played the first or second entry in the franchise. They weren’t developed by Bethesda, and brought their own unique twist to the post-apocalyptic world. As user progamer2277 says, you could “kill children” in the first Fallout game.

For user KeybladerZack, it’s “poisoning the Waters” with FEV in Fallout 3. This ensures a slow and painful death all across the Capital Wasteland. It’s really just a cold, calculated act of genocide.
However, it’s user Heema3 who’s committed the worst crime of them all by freeing the kid in Fallout 3 from a refrigerator, only “selling him into slavery” later. There’s truly no morality in the Wasteland.

The Reddit thread has made it clear that Fallout 3 allows players to unleash pure chaos through a number of wicked choices. It’s been a decade since the game’s release, and many fans are now hoping to see a remaster that not only revives the experience but also brings their in-game atrocities enhanced visuals.
Fortunately, it seems like their prayers might be answered. Back in 2023, several documents from the Microsoft vs FTC case surfaced online, listing an Oblivion and Fallout remaster. Fans doubted these until the Oblivion Remastered shadow dropped out of nowhere last month.

Washington — The Supreme Court on Friday said it will continue to block the Trump administration from deporting Venezuelan men detained in northern Texas while they pursue a challenge to their removals under the wartime Alien Enemies Act.
The order from the high court grants an emergency injunction sought by lawyers for a group of Venezuelan migrants who they said faced “imminent” risk of removal under President Trump’s March proclamation invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. It maintains an early directive issued by the Supreme Court last month that temporarily prohibited the government from removing the Venezuelan migrants held at the Bluebonnet Detention Facility in Anson, Texas, under the 18th-century law.
The Supreme Court’s April order, issued overnight, blocked the deportations “until further order of this court.”

Scientists on alert for massive undersea volcano eruption off West Coast
A volcano eruption near Oregon is brewing — but don’t panic about Axial Seamount.
The undersea volcano has been attracting attention for months as scientists prepare for an eruption they expect sometime in 2025. But because the top of the volcano is 4,500 feet below the ocean’s surface, it poses no danger to people.
The volcanologists watching it remotely wrote at the end of April that it’s in “a bit of a lull” right now.
The massive undersea volcano reaches more than 3,600 feet above the seabed is located 300 miles offshore. It last erupted in 2015.
USA TODAY reported on the volcano in February, and little has changed since then.
“A year ago, Axial seemed to be taking a nap but now it’s waking up and we think it’s likely to erupt before the end of 2025,” said Bill Chadwick, a volcanologist with Oregon State University who’s part of a team that’s studying the volcano, told USA TODAY at the time.
In an April 30 post, Chadwick said the magma inflation continued on “at a fairly steady clip” but the rate of earthquakes had fallen.
Overall, the undersea volcano continues to grow but it “sure doesn’t seem like anything is imminent,” he wrote.
“I think I’m getting a little impatient. I probably need to take some deep breaths and calm down! Still got 8 months to go before my latest forecast runs out of time,” he noted.
Chadwick was calm enough to leave for a three-week expedition to Guam on May 7 to explore the Mariana Trench – though he noted that those following Oregon’s undersea volcano joke that it’s most likely to erupt when its least convenient. “May is looking like a pretty inconvenient time for Axial to erupt … so you never know!”
Scott *******, a professor of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, who co-runs the Axial Seamount blog with Chadwick, said on May 16 that there’s no new news.
“We are still waiting for activity to pick up there,” he said.
Dating of the flows around the seamount shows that it has erupted about 50 times over the last 800 years, about once every 15 years on average.
A series of instruments around the volcano indicate a reservoir has been refilling with magma since its last eruption, gradually inflating so that it’s bulging upward.

“The pressure inside the volcano is building,” Chadwick previously said. “Eventually, it becomes too great and a crack opens up and lava spews out of the fissure.”
What will happen when the volcano erupts?
Among humans, only scientists using an array of instruments will know about the eruption.
“If you were in a boat right over the seamount you probably would never know it’s erupting, as there’s no effect on the ocean surface,” Chadwick previously said. “Though if you lowered a hydrophone you might hear it because there’d be a lot of commotion going on.”
Underwater, the lava cools more quickly than it would in the air, so it will make what’s known as pillow lava. These are bulbous pillows of lava that form enormous mounds that can overwhelm everything around them.
“In the 2015 eruption, they were 450 feet deep. For perspective, that’s two-thirds the height of the Space Needle in Seattle,” Chadwick said.
The eruptions can last between days and months.
The eruption couldn’t trigger a tsunami or earthquakes on land, but it would expel enormous amounts of lava into the ocean. In 2015, Axial spewed out 5.5 billion cubic feet of lava.
An amazing research opportunity
Researchers hope they can get an unmanned submersible down to see what’s happening while the lava is still flowing.
“Nobody’s ever witnessed an eruption like that,” he said.
Studying Axial is important because it’s a natural laboratory for volcanologists, allowing them to test theories and safely make predictions.
Axial is the world’s most extensively studied undersea volcano because more than 660 miles of undersea cables crisscross it, sending a steady stream of real-time data about the area to scientists. The Regional Cabled Array includes more than 140 instruments that are constantly monitoring it.
