Huge crowd piles pressure on Dutch government to seek an end to Israel’s campaign in Gaza
Huge crowd piles pressure on Dutch government to seek an end to Israel’s campaign in Gaza
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Tens of thousands of red-clad protesters marched through the Dutch capital on Sunday to demand their government do more to halt Israel’s campaign in Gaza, in what organizers called the country’s biggest demonstration in two decades.
Human rights groups and aid agencies — including Amnesty International, Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders — estimated the peaceful crowd at more than 100,000 people, and the streets of The Hague were packed with the old, young and even some babies on their first protest.
“We hope this is a wake-up call for the government,” said teacher Roos Lingbeek, attending the march with her husband and their 12-week-old daughter, Dido, who slept in a carrier as her parents brandished a sign simply reading: “STOP.”
The march took the young family past the Peace Palace, headquarters of the United Nations’ International Court of Justice, where last year judges ordered Israel to do all it can to prevent death, destruction and any acts of genocide in Gaza.
As the protest wound its way past the court, canals and the seat of the Netherlands’ right-wing government, Israeli forces continued to pound northern Gaza, where they have launched new ground operations.
Airstrikes in the offensive killed at least 103 people, including dozens of children, overnight and into Sunday, hospitals and medics said, and forced northern Gaza’s main hospital to close.
An Israeli blockade on food, medicine and other supplies is now in its third month, with global food security experts warning of famine across the territory of more than 2 million people.
David Prins, whose yarmulke was printed with the image of a watermelon — which shares the colors of the ************ flag — told The Associated Press he was attending the protest “to speak out against the atrocities.” The 64-year-old was standing across the street from the synagogue he attended growing up, which overlooks the field where the demonstration began.
Protesters walked a 3-mile (5-kilometer) loop around the city center of The Hague, to symbolically create the red line they say the government has failed to set.
“We are calling on the government to stop political, economic and military support to Israel,” while the country continues to block humanitarian aid to Gaza, Marjon Rozema, of Amnesty International, told the AP.
Some unable to make the trek through the city sat along the route to cheer on the marchers. “It’s beyond time for the government to act,” Aletha Steijns told AP, while holding crutches for a knee injury. She was joined by several friends in camping chairs on the sidewalk.
Dutch policy toward Israel is just one of many issues causing splits in the Netherlands’ fragile coalition government. Hard-right leader Geert Wilders is staunchly pro-Israel and his anti-immigrant Party for Freedom holds the largest number of seats in the country’s parliament.
Last week, however, foreign affairs minister Caspar Veldkamp of the ********* center-right VVD party urged the European Union to review a trade agreement with Israel, arguing that its blockade of humanitarian aid violated international law. Wilders hit back, denouncing the call as an “affront to cabinet policy.”

Day in the life with whole-home filtration
Day in the life with whole-home filtration
Life is too short to not make every possible moment of life as luxurious as possible, so if you are looking to zhuzh your daily routine and take your life from plain white bread to an artisan sourdough, consider upping your game with whole-home water filtration.
Come along with Micron Water Filters General Manager George Harrison for a day in the life with a whole-home water filtration system.
From the moment you wake up and seek refuge at the shrine of your coffee machine in the kitchen, give yourself the best possible start to the day by honouring the beans with filtered water.
“If you want better coffee, start with filtering your water, as it plays a big part in bringing out the flavour of your coffee beans,” Mr Harrison said.
Having your morning shower with filtered water will also give your hair a shining start to the day, something hairdressers recommend to ensure any colour in your hair lasts longer.
Whether single and living alone in your own trendy pad, a career-going power couple or family with adorable rugrats, hydration is key to staying healthy and active.
So, before heading out the door for work or to the school drop-off, make sure you are giving your loved ones more than the bare minimum by washing the apples in their lunchboxes or topping up their water bottles with filtered water.
Whether throwing on a load of washing between work-from-home meetings or after you get home, the last thing you want is for them to smell as bad as they do after a Pilates class or session at the gym.
“You might think ‘maybe I need to replace my washing machine?’, but that’s not always the case,” Mr Harrison said.
“Having filtered water ensures your washing stays fresher and softer for longer – a difference you will notice.”
At dinnertime, serve up a refreshing filtered glass of water before giving the kids their evening bath, washing off the grime and germs from a full day of play knowing your water is beautifully filtered.
Before setting your head on your pillow, keep your skin free from any potential irritants after washing your face and finishing the day with your well-deserved skincare routine.

Suspect identified in ‘intentional’ explosion at Palm Springs fertility clinic
Suspect identified in ‘intentional’ explosion at Palm Springs fertility clinic
The person suspected of detonating a car bomb outside a California fertility clinic on Saturday – and dying in the process – has been identified by local media reports as 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus.
According to outlets citing sources familiar with the matter, Bartkus is a resident of Twentynine Palms, home to a large marine base located about an hour away from Palm Springs, where the explosion in question occurred.
The sources added that Bartkus stated in writings or recordings that he was against bringing people into the world against their will, CBS reports.
Speaking to KTLA on Sunday morning, the FBI’s public affairs specialist, Laura Eimiller, confirmed that a person of interest is dead as a result of Saturday’s explosion outside the American Reproductive Centers. The blast also injured four other people.
In a Facebook post on Sunday morning, the San Bernardino county sheriff’s department said there is law enforcement “occurring in Twentynine Palms”, which is “an FBI investigation related to the Palm Springs explosion”. However, officials had not immediately confirmed media reports on the suspect’s identity.
Related: One dead after ‘intentional’ explosion near fertility clinic in Palm Springs
“At this time, there are no known threats to the San Bernardino county region,” the sheriff’s office said. But the agency added: “Out of an abundance of caution, sheriff’s deputies will be conducting extra patrols at fertility centers located in our jurisdiction.”
An FBI statement described the attacks as an “intentional act of terrorism”, adding that the clinic was deliberately targeted. But it declined to elaborate on how authorities had reached a conclusion on a motive.
The bomb, which detonated before 11am, was either in or near a car parked outside the clinic when it exploded, said the Palm Springs mayor, Ron deHarte.
The bomber tried to record video or stream the blast, according to an official speaking anonymously to the Associated Press.
Aerial images of the damage to the facility showed the burned-out remains of a vehicle in a parking lot behind the clinic.
Despite damage to the building, the ARC said its facility would be fully operational on Monday.
The Desert Sun reported that the explosion could be felt as far as 2 miles (3km) away.
Dr Maher Abdallah, who runs the ARC facility where the explosion happened, told the Associated Press in a phone interview that all of his staff were safe and accounted for.
The explosion damaged the practice’s office space, where it conducts consultations with patients. But the blast did not harm the in vitro fertilization (IVF) lab and all of the stored embryos.
In a statement on Facebook, the ARC said: “We are heartbroken to learn that this event claimed a life and caused injuries, and our deepest condolences go out to the individuals and families affected.”
The ARC also said it appreciated “the incredible support from our patients and local community, as well as the swift action of Palm Springs police, fire, and emergency responders”.
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, wrote on X that he and his wife, Jen, “are keeping everyone affected in our hearts”.
“The state is working closely with local and federal authorities as the investigation unfolds,” Newsom added. “Please avoid the area.”
Meanwhile, US attorney general Pam Bondi said “violence against a fertility clinic is unforgivable”.

Russia launch largest drone attack ahead of Trump call
Russia has launched its largest drone attack on Ukraine since the start of the war, destroying homes and killing at least one woman a day before US President Donald Trump is due to discuss a proposed ceasefire with Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine’s intelligence service said it also believed Moscow intended to fire an intercontinental ballistic missile later on Sunday as an attempt to intimidate the West. There was no immediate response from Moscow to the accusation.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, straining to restore ties with Washington after a disastrous February White House visit, met Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Rome on Sunday on the sidelines of Pope Leo’s inauguration.
Zelenskiy said the meeting was “good” and released pictures of Ukrainian and US officials sitting outside at a round table and smiling. Ukrainian media said the meeting lasted 40 minutes.
“I reaffirmed that Ukraine is ready to be engaged in real diplomacy and underscored the importance of a full and unconditional ceasefire as soon as possible,” Zelenskiy said.
Zelenskiy also met Pope Leo following the new pontiff’s inaugural Mass at the ********.
Ukraine and Russia held their first face-to-face talks in more than three years on Friday, under pressure from Trump to agree to a ceasefire in a war he has pledged to bring to a quick end. The warring sides agreed to swap 1000 prisoners each but failed to agree to a truce, after Moscow presented conditions that a member of Ukraine’s delegation called “non-starters”.
The leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Poland planned to speak to Trump before the US and Russian presidents speak on Monday, ******* Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Sunday.
The four European leaders jointly visited Kyiv last week where they called for new sanctions on Russia unless Moscow accepts a ceasefire, and Zelenskiy has said they joined him in phoning Trump on Friday after the Russia-Ukraine talks.
After a night of air alerts, Ukraine’s air force said that as of 8am local time on Sunday Russia had launched 273 drones at Ukrainian cities, more than the previous record Moscow had set in February on the war’s third anniversary.
Trump has shifted US rhetoric from supporting Ukraine towards accepting some of Moscow’s narrative about the war that Putin launched in 2022. But Kyiv and its European allies are working hard to persuade Trump that it is Moscow that is holding up a truce now.
Zelenskiy has said he would accept Trump’s proposal for an immediate ceasefire of at least 30 days with no conditions. Moscow says it would consider a ceasefire but only if conditions are met, including a halt in arms supplies to Kyiv.
It also says any peace talks must address the “root causes” of the conflict, including its demands that Ukraine cede territory, be disarmed and accept neutral status. Kyiv calls that tantamount to capitulation and says it would be left defenceless in the face of future Russian attacks.
On Saturday, a Russian drone attack killed nine civilians after hitting a shuttle bus in the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine, Kyiv said. Zelenskiy called the attack “deliberate” and urged stronger sanctions on Moscow, which said it had attacked a military facility.

Trump envoy Witkoff cites US ‘red line’ with Iran against uranium enrichment
Trump envoy Witkoff cites US ‘red line’ with Iran against uranium enrichment
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Any deal between the United States and Iran must include an agreement not to enrich uranium, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said on Sunday, a comment that drew criticism from Tehran.
While Witkoff was reiterating President Donald Trump’s position about uranium enrichment, Iran’s response was evidence that the two sides have a long way to go to reach any agreement over Iran’s nuclear program.
“We have one very, very clear red line, and that is enrichment. We cannot allow even 1% of an enrichment capability,” Witkoff said during an interview aired on ABC’s “This Week” program.
Everything begins, from the Trump administration’s standpoint, “with a deal that does not include enrichment. We cannot have that. Because enrichment enables weaponization. And we will not allow a bomb to get here,” Witkoff said.
The response from Tehran was swift.
“Unrealistic expectations stop negotiations, enrichment in Iran is not something that can be stopped”, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency cited Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, as saying on Sunday.
“I think he is completely at a distance from the reality of the negotiations,” Araqchi said of Witkoff, and added that enrichment will continue.
Witkoff said he is optimistic about negotiations and thinks the parties will hold talks again in Europe this week.
“We hope that it will lead to some real positivity,” Witkoff said.
Araqchi said the date and location of the next round of talks will be announced soon.
Trump said on Thursday that the United States was getting very close to securing a nuclear deal with Iran, but on Friday said Iran needs to move quickly. Trump told reporters on Friday aboard Air Force One after departing the United Arab Emirates: “They have a proposal. More importantly, they know they have to move quickly or something bad – something bad’s going to happen,” according to an audio recording of the remarks.
Araqchi said on social media that Tehran had not received a U.S. proposal.
During his first term as president, Trump withdrew the United States from a 2015 deal between Iran and world powers that placed strict limits on Tehran’s uranium enrichment activities in exchange for sanctions relief. Trump also reimposed sweeping U.S. sanctions.

Transcript: Ret. Gen. Stanley McChrystal on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” May 18, 2025
Transcript: Ret. Gen. Stanley McChrystal on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” May 18, 2025
The following is the transcript of an interview with Retired Army General Stanley McChrystal that aired on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” on May 18, 2025.
MARGARET BRENNAN: We’re joined now by retired General Stanley McChrystal, whose new book is “On Character: Choices That Define a Life.” Good morning to you.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Thanks for having me, Margaret.
MARGARET BRENNAN: So you write that character is a choice built upon our deeply held beliefs. Sounds like you really think there’s a lack of it these days, we certainly see there’s a loss of trust in many of our country’s institutions, whether it’s the federal government, journalism, the courts. How do you describe our national character right now and the leaders we have?
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: I think it’s confused. If you look at polling, as you just referred to the lack of trust, like 22% of Americans a year ago had trust in the U.S. government. Only 34% had trust in other Americans. So I think we all sort of intuitively know we have a real problem, but what I would argue is our national leaders are not the cause of the problem, they’re the symptom of the problem. The cause is us at our individual level, our unwillingness to think about character, to talk about character, and to demand character. And I would also argue that we’re also the cure. There is a symptom that we see and we’re distracted by it, all the things that we are disappointed by, people lying, people doing things that we find beneath us. As a nation, our character is our fate. And so what I’m trying to do is convince people to start a national conversation on character with the idea it starts at the bottom, not at the top. We need to start it down where things actually happen, on farms, in schools. We’ve just sent out 240 copies of the book to college sports coaches to try to have them start just to talk about character. And so that’s what I’m passionate about.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Well, I admire the effort. You know, it’s interesting to look at where this began, not pinning it on a person. I understand you’re trying to do that. But is it a symptom of, it’s always been this way we just have more transparency, and thus we know more about people’s flaws? Why does this seem to be building as a problem?
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Well, we’ve always had a problem with certain evil in society and corruption, lack of character, but I think the fact that we see everything so much now we normalize it. We start to accept things in celebrities or leaders that I frankly think we wouldn’t have accepted even a generation ago. And that’s sort of our problem. We give them our likes on social media, we spend our money with them, we vote for them, and we know better than that. And so I think the responsibility, again, arcs back to us.
MARGARET BRENNAN: You’re not a Democrat or Republican you say.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Right.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Though you did endorse Joe Biden and Kamala Harris–
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Right–
MARGARET BRENNAN: –In the last elections. Most retired military try to stay out of politics and make an argument that that’s crossing the rubicon in some ways.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Yeah.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Why did you?
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Well, of course, you go back to Dwight Eisenhower and Ulysses S. Grant, they actually went into politics.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Fair.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: So there is some tradition, but that was not my goal to get into politics. I just felt that we had hit a ******* in which we were so adrift as a nation in terms of character, we were accepting something that is not as good as we are capable of. So I made a decision, and I’ll be honest, it was tough, because there’s a lot of pushback from peers and from outsiders that say you shouldn’t get political. But I don’t think that saying that America should stand up for its values and for its character is necessarily political.
MARGARET BRENNAN: And we had, in the past, conversations with other guests that question about what does America stand for, and does it matter. There is a shift more towards pragmatism, or what’s in it for me, on the national scale. That’s very much in our politics right now.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: And I think it’s a mistake for the nation. If you think what really helped the United States in the modern era, we’ll call it after World War II, people admired American ideas. They admired American democracy. They admired our social, our culture. They didn’t like every part of it, and they knew that we as a nation made mistakes, but countries and people wanted to be more like us than they wanted to be like the Soviet Union or other enemies. And as long as we are an example that people want to be, it gives us extraordinary influence and power. When it becomes transactional, when we, when we become somebody that just wants something from them, and we’re unwilling to be generous, we’re unwilling to sacrifice for larger ideals, we lose some of our moral standing and I think some of our national force, our power.
MARGARET BRENNAN: At the Pentagon right now, we hear a lot about values and culture sort of being at odds with the mission.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Yeah.
MARGARET BRENNAN: Or that’s how it’s being described, right? Secretary Hegseth has talked a lot about restoring the warrior ethos. That’s part of his justification for eliminating diversity programs or DEI. Do you think DEI really “hurts lethality”?
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: Yeah. I am completely aligned with Secretary Hegseth on the idea that we need to defend the nation, that the defense department needs to be as effective as it can be, and that a certain warrior ethos matters. We just define it differently. In my experience, we tend to understand that everybody can contribute, particularly in today’s modern wars. The idea that everybody’s got to look a certain way, got to have biceps of a certain size, there’s got to be a male, straight, all these things, is not my experience. In the counter terrorist fight, where much of my experience was, it became a meritocracy. You didn’t care what somebody looked like or how old they were, what their gender was or ******* orientation because it was too important to get the job done. And I would argue now America needs to harness talent from every corner of our society, everyone. I would even argue that if we went back to a draft, we could draft people with physical disabilities because much of what we do, that’s not a block to that. And so I think we need to think about what do we need to field the most effective armed forces, and I think that the DEI thing is, frankly, a distraction. It’s not helpful.
MARGARET BRENNAN: In terms of national character, when you were commanding forces, the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan, ISAF, you know very well that country. The Taliban’s since taken over. We have seen them strip women and girls of even the right to have their voice heard in public. You have seen them carry out retribution against Afghans who worked with our country and put their lives at risk. This past week, the Trump administration said Afghanistan is safe enough for people living here to go back. They stripped the legal protections, the Temporary Protected Status. They are ending some of the programs that helped to evacuate our American allies there. What do you think that says about our character now?
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: I think it’s disappointing. I personally disagree with that decision, but I also think it sends a message. What about people who we ask to ally with us in the future, that we asked to partner with us, they look at what happened in the past. And so I think our national character should be ******* than that and we’re capable of being ******* than that.
MARGARET BRENNAN: General McChrystal, thank you very much for sharing your reflections.
GEN. MCCHRYSTAL: You’re kind to have me. Thank you.
MARGARET BRENNAN: And your book “On Character: Choices That Define a Life.” We’ll be right back.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who were at Irvine Beach on Saturday to come forward.
Officers were called to the area at 6.45pm on Saturday following reports of a disturbance.
A 16-year-old boy, from East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, was found seriously injured. The boy has been named as Kayden Moy.
He was taken to hospital but died in the early hours of Sunday.
Police Scotland’s major investigations team has launched an inquiry.
Detective Chief Inspector Campbell Jackson said “several” people are believed to have been filming on their phones around the time of the incident.
He urged anyone with information or footage to come forward.
“An extensive investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death,” he said.
“Our officers are supporting the boy’s family at this very difficult and heartbreaking time.
“From our investigation so far, we know there were a number of people on the beach around the time of the disturbance.
“We believe several of them were filming at the time and may have footage of what happened.
“I would urge people to review the footage they have and contact police if they think the footage captured could be of significance to our investigation.”
Detectives have set up a website to allow members of the public to submit information to the team directly, which can be anonymous.
Superintendent Jim McMillan added: “We understand this death will be of great concern for the local community, but please be assured that we are doing everything we can to identify those involved.

Goodison Park: Emotional scenes mark Everton’s last game at old ground
Goodison Park: Emotional scenes mark Everton’s last game at old ground
The blue smoke could be seen rising around Goodison Park almost four hours before kick-off. This grand old arena was not built for serene farewells, so a day of history and high emotion was never going to pass off quietly.
A football match broke out briefly, separating the celebrations marking the end of 133 years of men’s senior football here, Everton delivering a fitting farewell as Southampton surrendered to the mood and Iliman Ndiaye’s two first-half goals.
The familiar sights and sounds of Goodison Park still assaulted the senses as Evertonians made their way to this richly atmospheric place three miles outside the city centre to simply say they were there, whether they had match tickets or not.
Ten-minute walk from the car park? Make that nearly an hour.
Thousands thronged the streets from 8am, Goodison Road close to impassable, forcing Everton’s team to take a different route into the stadium, the coach arriving on Bullens Road hidden behind more blue plumes of smoke rising into the Merseyside sunshine.
Everton’s fans were drawn to the famous landmarks.
‘The Holy Trinity’ statue, commemorating the 1970 title-winning midfield of Alan Ball, Colin Harvey and Howard Kendall and opposite St Luke the Evangelist church on the corner of Gwladys Street, was swamped, as was that of former striker Dixie Dean, who still holds the record of 60 league goals in 1927-28.
They will stay in place while Everton move to the spectacular 53,000-capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, now known as the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

No Kerr – but Serena watches Chelsea seal trophy treble
No Kerr – but Serena watches Chelsea seal trophy treble
Sam Kerr may have missed her Chelsea team celebrating their Women’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester United at Wembley — but the Blues had a special guest cheering them on to the 3-0 win that sealed their domestic trophy treble in England.
Tennis great Serena Williams, whose husband is buying a stake in the team, must have recognised a good investment as she watched Chelsea add the Cup to their Women’s Super League and League Cup victories in what has been a remarkable unbeaten domestic season.
Kerr, who’s not played a single match for the Blues this season as she recovers from her long-term ACL injury, was not around for the celebrations, having instead been a surprise attendee at the A-League Women grand final at AAMI Park back in Melbourne.
But off the pitch at England’s national stadium in London hours later on Sunday, all eyes were on Williams sitting next to husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who announced on Wednesday he’d bought a 10 percent stake in the team — reportedly worth Stg 20 million ($A41 million).
Once again, Chelsea demonstrated that the entrepreneur has bought into the powerhouse of English women’s football following their annexation of a domestic treble for the second time in five years, while not losing a match in any of the three competitions.
France international Sandy Baltimore scored a 45th-minute penalty, whipped in a free kick for Catarina Macario to head home in the 84th and then scored her second goal in stoppage-time to power Chelsea to their sixth FA Cup win and their fourth in the last five years.
The only thing they failed to win this season under French manager Sonia Bompastor was the Women’s Champions League after losing both legs against Barcelona in the semi-finals.
“Chelsea is very unique. These are the queens of global soccer and they’ve got the trophy case to prove it,” Ohanian told the BBC.
“This will be a billion-dollar franchise one day and I hope my dollars, my pounds, can go towards that and especially back home in America. This is going to be America’s team.”

Flights reduced by 40% at Paris-Orly airport after traffic control systems break down
Flights reduced by 40% at Paris-Orly airport after traffic control systems break down
PARIS (AP) — France’s civil aviation authority asked airlines to reduce flights by 40% at Paris-Orly airport on Sunday evening after air traffic control systems suffered a breakdown.
The authority, known as DGAC, said in a statement that some “regulation” was needed involving a significant reduction in the number of flights. The statement didn’t provide details on the cause of the breakdown.
DGAC said its teams “are fully mobilized to restore normal operations as soon as possible.”
Paris-Orly airport serves domestic and international flights, including to most European countries and the U.S.

Remember Monday singer says she’s lost wedding ring after contest
Remember Monday singer says she’s lost wedding ring after contest
Reuters
Holly-Anne Hull (centre) said in a video posted the day after Eurovision that she had lost her wedding ring
A member of the ***’s Eurovision entry Remember Monday says she lost her wedding ring in video posted the morning after their Basel performance.
“I’ve lost my wedding ring and my engagement ring,” Holly-Anne Hull said in a video posted on Instagram on Sunday.
In the video, the singer and her two bandmates are sat on a plane, seemingly leaving Switzerland. Hull did not give further details, such as where she might have lost the ring or when it happened.
The country-pop trio came 19th of the 26 countries in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with their track What The Hell Just Happened.
Hull got married in Surrey in June 2023.
In the video posted on Instagram the group parodied the lyrical style of their entry – which tells the tale of the morning after a big night out – saying they are still wearing “last night’s hair gel” and their knees hurt. before Hull jokes: “I’m gonna have a breakdown ’cause I’ve lost my wedding ring.”
Lauren Byrne adds the trio are “so grateful” for their supporters and Charlotte Steele says their fans are “amazing”.
Remember Monday got 88 points on Saturday night, all of which were from the jury – like last year’s entrant Olly Alexander, the band received no points from the public vote.
Austrian singer JJ won the competition with his electro-ballad Wasted Love, with a total of 436 votes, after beating Israel at the last minute.
Estonia came third, followed by Sweden, which had been the frontrunner going into Saturday night. The country’s entrant, comedy troupe KAJ, performed Bara Bada Bastu, a song about saunas, which has has topped Swedish music charts for three months.

The trio danced around a giant chandelier as they sang about the aftermath of a big night out
Though Remember Monday’s song performed poorly with the public vote, the group came joint 10th in the jury vote, along with Finland, and Italy even gave the *** its 12 points.
The trio, who all have musical theatre backgrounds, danced around a giant chandelier in Bridgerton-inspired colourful dresses as they sang about the aftermath of a big night out, where they lost their keys, broke their heels and went to bed in their make-up. The BBC’s music correspondent Mark Savage wrote that the band “got a lot of things right” and “hit every harmony in their song… with pinpoint precision”.
But the public was less convinced. Only one other country, host nation Switzerland, got zero from the public vote.
Remember Monday, who met at sixth-form college in Farnborough studying performing arts, have been friends for 12 years, and quit their jobs in late 2023 to be in the band full-time. They were announced as the ***’s Eurovision entry in March.
Earlier this month the group announced a *** and Ireland tour, and are performing at events including the Capital Summertime Ball, Latitude festival and the Isle of Wight Festival this summer.
They called Saturday night “one of the most surreal and emotional moments of our lives”.

Russia launches largest drone attack after peace talks, Ukraine says
Russia launches largest drone attack after peace talks, Ukraine says
STORY: ::Russia strikes Ukraine with the war’s largest drone attack, according to the Ukrainian air force
::May 18, 2025
::Kyiv region, Ukraine
“In the very beginning, during the first explosion I was at home with my little son. Then we went to the cellar all together. I always take cover in the cellar and drag children with me. Then my youngest son said: “Mommy, let’s go to the kindergarten.” I did not want to go and thought we will survive if there were just ten drones, it was not the first time in our life. But he insisted and we went to the kindergarten. Thank God we are alive, but I feel very sorry for neighbours. Young woman died. I cannot get over it. I simply cannot. I could clearly hear the drone flying right towards my house.”
Russia launched 273 drones by 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), targeting chiefly the central Kyiv region and the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions in the country’s east, Ukraine’s air force said.
Kyiv region resident Natalia Piven described how her family survived the attack after her son urged her to leave their home and take shelter at the local kindergarten. She said she was grateful to be alive, but felt sad that a woman in her neighborhood was killed.
The sustained overnight Russian drone attack on Sunday killed a 28-year-old woman in the capital region and injured at least three people, including a 4-year-old child, Ukrainian authorities said.
Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war, but thousands have been killed in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainians.
