  2. *** in better place on trade than any other country *** in better place on trade than any other country The *** is now in a better place on trade “than any other country in the world”, the chancellor has claimed. Rachel Reeves said Britain’s economic growth was on course to be upgraded as a result of the country’s recent three trade deals agreed with the US, India and the EU. Reeves suggested the government wanted to go further on its new agreement with the EU but told the BBC a trade pact with countries in the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, would be the “next deal”. She told the BBC the *** was “not looking to have trade negotiations with China”, despite previously saying she wanted a long-term relationship with the country. On Monday, the *** and the EU struck a deal across several areas including fishing, trade, defence and energy, which marked the biggest agreement between the parties since the *** left the trading bloc in 2020 following the Brexit vote. The summit in London came after the government reached a trade deal with India to make it easier for *** firms to export whisky, cars and other products to the country, and cut taxes on India’s clothing and footwear exports. The government has also secured an agreement with US President Donald Trump to reduce tariffs on some goods traded between the nations. Reeves described the recent trade deals as having “come along like buses” and hinted at expectations of an upgrade to *** economic growth forecasts as a result. “Britain is in a better place than any other country in the world in terms of deals with those countries,” she said. “The first deal and the best deal so far with the US, we’ve got the best deal with the EU for any country outside the EU, and we’ve got the best trade agreement with India,” Reeves added. “Not only are these important in their own right, but it also shows that Britain now is the place for investment and business, because we’ve got preferential deals with the biggest economies around the world.” The chancellor told the BBC another deal with Gulf nations was the “next deal”, with the government closing in on a pact with the six-member Gulf Co-operation Council including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. It appears the government had the EU, the ***’s largest trading partner, in mind during its talks with the US and India. As part of the deal with the EU, in return for extending current fishing rules, checks have been reduced on *** food exports. Reeves said *** officials had made it clear to the Trump administration and India that food standards were not up for negotiation in their deals. “We increased the quota for the import of beef from the US, it was all still on the high standards that we pride ourselves in, and in part because standards matter to us, but also because we wanted to secure this agreement with the EU, which is by far the biggest market for *** agriculture and fishing,” the chancellor said. But while the government has hailed recent trade agreements as triumphs, some opposition parties have criticised Reeves and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for some of the concessions offered in return. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the latest EU deal took the *** “backwards” and previously said the country had been “shafted” in the America tariff pact. The chancellor received a boost last week when the latest official figures revealed the *** economy had grown by 0.7% in the first three months of the year. The growth was ******* than expected but is not forecast to last. The government has made growing the economy its main priority in order to boost living standards. A higher growth rate usually means people are getting paid a little bit more, can spend more and more jobs are created by businesses investing. Reeves suggested *** growth forecasts could be boosted because of the better figures, but economists have warned US tariffs and the chancellor’s decision to raise National Insurance for employers could hit the economy. “We are forecasting growth of 1% this year, and we had 0.7% in Q1 and they’ll take into account the new trade deals that have been secured,” she said. 4. Minecraft Ender Dragon Boss Guide – Where To Find And How To Beat Minecraft Ender Dragon Boss Guide – Where To Find And How To Beat Beating the Ender Dragon in Minecraft technically marks the end of the game, as the credits will roll when you leave the area post-fight. However, there are several useful techniques and important mechanics that you need to know before you head into the fight with one of the strongest Minecraft mobs. Here’s how to find the Ender Dragon, how to beat it, and the rewards you’ll get for slaying it. Items to bring to the fight Before we get into the mechanics of the Ender Dragon fight, there are several items you should seek out and bring with you on the journey. You’ll want to read our dedicated Minecraft The End guide for information on how to find The End and how to get there, but in terms of items that will be useful, we’ve got you covered. You’ll need three full stacks of scaffolding in order to reach the tops of the towers. You can bring normal blocks, but scaffolding allows you to go up and down at will, instead of relying on water buckets to break your fall from the top of the tower. If you’re anything like me, you’ve failed at the water bucket trick too many times to count, so scaffolding is the safer option. Having said that, do bring a water bucket to protect yourself from the many Endermen that spawn in the fight arena. Suggested items to bring to the Ender Dragon fight. Bring a full stack of golden carrots to restore health if you do get hit quickly. Also, bring three stacks of empty glass bottles with you to collect the Dragon’s Breath that pools on the floor. This is an important ingredient for several Minecraft potions, so it’s well worth collecting while the fight progresses. To collect it, right-click with a glass bottle equipped when it pools on the floor, taking care not to step directly in it. Bring your best weapons. For the Ender Dragon, this is a Netherite sword with your preferred enchantments, and a bow with the infinity enchantment at a minimum, as this gives you unlimited arrows. You’ll also want full diamond or Netherite armor, with your preferred enchantments. If you’d prefer to avoid the Endermen completely at the sacrifice of limited vision, you can carve a pumpkin and wear it as a helmet. This way, the Endermen won’t attack you no matter how much you look at them. Bring a bed and a chest with spare armor and weapons. Place the bed and chest next to the End portal, and set your respawn on the bed before jumping into the portal. Finally, bring some stacks of building blocks, preferably cobblestone or something else similar to obtain, as the spawn into The End is random and you may find yourself on one of the area’s many standalone platforms with no way to reach the Ender Dragon. Should this happen after jumping through the portal, you can create a bridge across to the main area. How to destroy the tower crystals and cages When you spawn into the Ender Dragon fight, you’ll notice several pillars with End Crystals on top of them. Two of these towers will also have cages around the crystals. You’ll need to climb the towers to destroy the cages. Some towers have cages at the top. You can use your bow to shoot the crystals at the top of the towers. All of the crystals need to be destroyed, as they will heal the Ender Dragon. You can shoot the crystals from the ground, but if you’re finding it difficult then use your scaffolding to ascend the tower to get a better angle to hit it from. Destroy the cages around the crystals with a pickaxe. You will have to use the scaffolding to climb the towers to destroy the caged crystals, as the cages cannot be destroyed using projectiles. When you reach the top, use a pickaxe for the most efficient way to destroy the cage. Remember that there are two towers with cages. When the cage and crystal are destroyed, head down the scaffolding or use the water bucket to create a safe space to jump into. If you destroy a crystal while the Dragon is tethered to it–signaled by a white beam between the Dragon and the crystal–it will cause the Ender Dragon to take more damage when the attack phase begins. How to avoid being killed by Endermen As mentioned above, you can carve a pumpkin and wear it as a helmet to avoid Endermen attacking you. However, the limited visibility this provides often isn’t worth it. Instead, try to avoid looking at them directly. An Enderman can’t attack if you’re stood in water. If you accidentally do look at one for too long it will become hostile. Use your water bucket and stand in the middle of where the water was placed. If you stay in this safe area, the Endermen will not get closer and therefore cannot hit you with their melee attacks. However, the Ender Dragon can still use its Dragon’s Breath attack, so keep an eye out for it as it will still do damage over time while you’re standing in water. How to kill the Ender Dragon You can now begin to damage the Ender Dragon. Use your bow and aim for it as it circles in the air, keeping an eye out for its Dragon Breath attacks. Remember not to look at the Endermen during this time too, as if you anger one, they’ll all become hostile and can actually prove more deadly than the Dragon itself at times. The Ender Dragon has several hitboxes on its head, body, wings, and tail. Hitting it in the head causes the most damage. Shoot the Ender Dragon with arrows when it’s in flight. When the Ender Dragon lands on the perch made of Bedrock in the center of the arena, it’s time for the next stage of the fight. Again, hitting it on the head will cause the most damage, but be careful of its flapping wings, as they’ll cause damage. The Ender Dragon dying It will still be using its Dragon’s Breath attack, so use the glass bottles in your inventory to quickly bottle it up, or move away from it. As the Dragon’s health depletes, it will periodically return to the sky to fly around before landing again on its perch. Keep attacking it with arrows in the air, or melee attacks when it’s on its perch, until it’s killed. Ender Dragon Drops For defeating the Ender Dragon, you will receive several items. Firstly, you will get 12,000XP in orbs, so run around and collect them all for a huge amount of level boosts. It’s enough to raise your level to 68 from zero, to put that into context. If you resummon the Ender Dragon and defeat it again, it will only drop 500XP. Secondly, the Dragon Egg will spawn. To safely get it without destroying it, follow these steps: Hit the egg once so it falls from the portal. Mine underneath the egg and place a torch underneath the block it is sitting on. Break the block it is sitting on, and it’ll fall on the torch. You can now pick up the egg and have it in your inventory. This also grants The Next Generation achievement. There is only one Dragon Egg in each Minecraft world, and there is no way to get more than one without using Minecraft mods. How to pick up the Ender Dragon Egg. Finally, defeating the Ender Dragon opens a portal to the End Islands, which gives access to things such as Elytra and Shulker boxes. The portals appear in random locations, and look like a cluster of blocks. There can be up to 20 portals around the main island, and teleport you large distances to the End Islands. How to resummon the Ender Dragon You’ll need four End Crystals to summon the Ender Dragon for a repeat of the fight. Place one End Crystal on each side of the perch where the Ender Dragon usually rests during the fight, on the central block. This will cause four beams to shoot up, one from each crystal, which will take it in turns to point to the top of each obsidian tower to create a new End Crystal, and the Ender Dragon will respawn when all of them have spawned. Resummoning the Ender Dragon. Now that you know all about the Ender Dragon, check out our Minecraft guides hub for more tips and tricks. 6. China exporters use dubious workarounds to dodge U.S. tariffs China exporters use dubious workarounds to dodge U.S. tariffs China Shipping containers are seen at the port of Oakland, as trade tensions continued over U.S. tariffs with China, in Oakland, California, U.S., May 12, 2025. Carlos Barria | Reuters ******** exporters are offering lucrative deals to U.S. customers with promises of bearing the full burden of tariffs. Look beneath and there’s a web of illicit activity that’s propping up these shipments from China. By using the “delivered-duty-paid” shipping approach where sellers pay for all import duties, and by under-invoicing shipments, some ******** sellers are able to offer U.S. customers pre-tariff prices, while still turning a profit, according to legal experts and industry veterans. Here’s how the scheme plays out: ******** exporters, often through freight forwarders — companies that handle the logistics of shipping merchandise — understate the value of goods or mislabel them, often both, in the shipping documents to draw lesser duties. Shipments are then routed through shell companies, registered under names of foreign entities or individuals, that act as “importers of record,” which the U.S. government deems responsible for the accuracy of customs filings and all applicable duties. Importers are required to secure a minimum $50,000 customs bond from U.S. surety providers as a guarantee to the government that they will pay tariffs. When they fail to settle the tariffs on time, the bond covers the duties. Once the bond has been utilized, often these shell companies default and cease operations, only to quickly set up a new entity — and the cycle repeats. “Often these companies don’t bother to file bankruptcy. They simply turn off the phone, close email accounts, and choose whatever mailing address they have [to open a new firm],” said David Forgue, partner at Chicago-based law firm Barnes, Richardson & Colburn, making it difficult for the surety to chase them for tariff reimbursement. This tactic is not new. “The incentive to underreport always exists while tariffs are in place,” said Joseph Briggs, managing director at Goldman Sachs. Now, it has gained greater momentum, as businesses scramble to sidestep the new levies imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump in his second term. A search for “double clearance and all tax inclusive” on ******** social media Xiaohongshu turns up numerous ads promising cheap delivery for furniture, refrigerators and other big-ticket houseware goods to the U.S. ports, with all tariff fees included. Many are able to offer such deals by under-valuing and misclassifying shipments, industry veterans told CNBC. “It’s an open secret in the industry,” said Ash Monga, founder and CEO of Guangzhou-based Imex Sourcing Services, a supply chain management company. “Opening a shell company is easy, you can do that in a couple of hours. You can open as many companies as you want. The cost is a few hundreds, so this whole process is easy to execute and can be replicated as many times as you want,” Monga added. Adopting this practice is being increasingly discussed among U.S. firms sourcing in China, as businesses look to skirt Trump’s latest tariffs, he said. An owner of a Guangdong-based electronics manufacturer told CNBC on condition of anonymity that there have been an increase in U.S. buyers pushing ******** suppliers to go down this route. China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, a trade body under the Ministry of Commerce, did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. Risks for American buyers American businesses are underestimating civil and criminal risks, whether they actively pressure their suppliers to circumvent tariffs or are unwitting beneficiaries of the practice, legal and customs experts warned. “It is scary how businesspeople, like 90% [of them], believe that if they are not listed as the official importer of record, they are somehow immune from any civil or criminal liability for the import,” said Dan Harris, an attorney and partner at Seattle-based law firm Harris Sliwoski. There is also a rise in cases where businesses are being hit with tariff payments, even though they are not the designated importers on record. Harris said there’s been an increase in his clients facing unexpected customs bills and seized shipments, as the overseas sellers failed to settle import duties. It is “a horrible game” for U.S. businesses complicit in this scheme, as they could face substantial liability under the customs law and other laws like the False Claims Act, said Forgue. For businesses still paying pre-tariff prices on imports from China, claiming ignorance of potential customs fraud is unlikely to stand as a credible defense, Harris warned. “There’s no way an American company that had been paying $20 for products, paid only $25” when there was a double-digit tariff, Harris said. The importers could request their suppliers for a copy of the customs documents to check classification and declared values to mitigate risks, Harris said. Containers reflected in a puddle following a rainfall, at the Yantian port in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, China May 9, 2025. Tingshu Wang | Reuters Businesses worry that competitors accepting these deals may undercut prices, leaving law-abiding firms at a disadvantage. “Consumers are most likely to choose the cheapest options and it will be very difficult to compete with people who do business illegally,” said Cze-Chao Tam, founder and CEO of Trinity International, a California-based houseware provider. The company manufactures and sources its items from China and Southeast Asia, besides the U.S. Facing import duties of up to 55%, Tam is negotiating with key buyers on price hikes. “Our buyers are not going to accept a full pass-through,” she said, adding that she expects the company’s margins to take a hit. Hard to curb Trump’s tariff policy is a giant stress test for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP — the government body tasked with collecting tariffs and policing imports. “There’s a massive volume of trade coming in from China and other countries … there just simply wouldn’t be enough resources to be able to to screen them all,” said Alex Capri, a former U.S. customs officer in Los Angeles. As the CBP inspect only a fraction of incoming cargos, a “laser-focused” cargo selectivity system that sorts high-risk shipments and determine the type of examination required becomes increasingly crucial in curbing tariff evasion through under-invoicing and mislabeling, said Capri. Underscoring how enforcing tariffs could be tricky, Trump had to delay the repeal of duty-free imports of low-cost packages from China to put enforcement procedures and systems in place. In April, there was a 10-hour “glitch” in the customs system that prevented importers from inputting a code that would have exempted freight already on water from being subjected to higher duties. Illicit transshipment, where goods are routed through a third-country to conceal their ******** origin, has also been used to dodge tariffs at the risk of fines and jail time. A Goldman Sachs’ report released in January estimated that the tariffs Trump imposed on China during his first term saw evasions worth $110 billion to $130 billion in 2023, with understating value and mislabeling each contributing $40 billion and rerouting accounting for $30 billion to $50 billion. In comparison, the total duty, taxes and fees collected by CBP in fiscal 2023 was $92.3 billion, according to government data. To curb illicit tariff evasion, Capri expects the U.S. government to put pressure on foreign governments during ongoing trade negotiations to enhance law enforcement efforts at the point of departure. “You simply cannot wait until the cargo is either on the water or arriving at the U.S. port,” he said, adding that it will be more efficient to put the onus on the exporting country. Matthew Galeotti, the head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, issued a new guidance last week that that prioritized trade and customs fraud, particularly tariff evasion, as one of the focus areas for investigation and prosecution. Trump has said the federal government is taking in $2 billion a day from tariffs. While official figures indicate that was an overstatement, customs duties collected did hit a record level in April, totaling $16.3 billion, according to data from U.S. Treasury Department. A CBP spokesperson told CNBC that tariff enforcement was being done through “a combination of legal authority, advanced systems, and operational procedures designed to ensure that duties owed are paid.” “As a result of recent presidential actions, enforcement will include the most severe penalties permitted by law,” the spokesperson said. 10. Greer Fire scorches over 20,000 acres across eastern Arizona: What to know Greer Fire scorches over 20,000 acres across eastern Arizona: What to know A wildfire in eastern Arizona has set over 20,000 acres ablaze in the span of a week. After six days of fighting the blaze, dubbed the Greer Fire, fire officials announced that they had gotten control of the fire. As of May 19, the Greer Fire is 39% contained. Hundreds of firefighters are working to extinguish the wind-driven wildfire, which is currently burning through natural plant material, including grass, shrubs and timber. “As a result of substantial work securing heat near the edge of the line, fire managers were able to add some containment to the fire this morning,” according to a May 19 daily update posted to InciWeb, an information management system maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. “Today, all available resources are actively working to secure the fire perimeter and cool hot spots to prevent the spread of the fire by wind-driven embers.” Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs declared a state emergency that will release $200,000 in state funds to the firefighting effort after a May 17 visit to the fire zone, according to reporting by The Arizona Republic, part of the USA TODAY Network. “Everything we heard today is such a testament to the partnership and the coordination that doesn’t just happen in the middle of a catastrophic incident,” Hobbs said. “I’m committed to helping ensure those families have the resources they need post-fire… I know we’re all expecting a bad season.” Here’s what we know about the Greer Fire so far. When and where did the Greer Fire start? Smoke from the Greer Fire off Highway 260 in Springerville, Arizona seen on May 14, 2025. The Greer Fire broke out in Greer, Arizona, a small town over 200 miles northeast of Phoenix, around 11 a.m. on May 13. The wind-driven fire was pushing to the east/northeast along the ridges through grass and pinyon-juniper. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to InciWeb. How could current weather conditions affect the fire? Fire personnel were expected to continue to patrol and up hotspots along the control lines to prepare for unfavorable weather conditions. A Red Flag Warning, which warns of warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger than average winds, remains in effect across several regions until 8 p.m. local time on May 19. Eagar, Springerville and St. Johns, communities neighboring to the Greer Fire, were also subject to a Red Flag Warning. The weather conditions forecast “critical fire weather” in the White Mountains, Little Colorado River Valley and northeastern plateaus, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service’s field office in Flagstaff. Dangerous fire conditions were expected to continue through May 19, according to an X post from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. Lighter winds are expected on May 20. “One spark into the dry veg under red flag conditions can start a rapid spreading wildfire,” a warning from the agency reads. “Avoid burning or using tools that spark. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.” What regions have been impacted by the Greer Fire? The Apache County Sheriff’s Office issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents in Eagar, Greer, South Fork and all areas west of State Route 261 on May 16, three days after the wildfire began. Eagar residents located south of State Route 260 between River Road and the SR 260/U.S. 180 junction — directly east of the fire — were included in the evacuation area. The fire had crossed east over State Route 261. The latest Greer Fire evacuations could be seen on an interactive map provided by the National Interagency Fire Center. Shelter for evacuees were open at the County Fairgrounds in St. Johns and the Alpine Community Center. Blankets and food were available for those who had been evacuated, according to the Apache County Office of Emergency Management website. 11. The most common travel scams in 9 global cities The most common travel scams in 9 global cities The travel industry is one of the sectors most susceptible to fraud, with scams rising 18% during the summer peak season and 28% in the winter peak season in 2024, according to a new report. The report, published last Tuesday by the Mastercard Economics Institute, showed that fraud related to travel agency and tour company bookings is more than four times higher than the fraud average of other industries. “Once paid, the tour may either never occur or be drastically different from what was promised,” it said. However, scam risks vary significantly from city to city, said David Mann, chief economist at the Asia-Pacific division of the Mastercard Economics Institute. “In certain destinations, you can end up seeing a lot more of the fraud coming from the travel and the tour company side. In other cities, it can even be in things like food services. So a good example, over in Los Angeles, [food is] the biggest portion of where we see some of the fraud,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Friday. According to Mastercard’s data, tourists reported the lowest rates of fraud in: San Francisco, U.S.Dublin, IrelandSeoul, South KoreaBudapest, Czech RepublicEdinburgh, Scotland However, travelers to these cities reported higher levels of fraud: Cancun, MexicoHanoi, VietnamDhaka, BangladeshBangkok, Thailand The type of scams commonly reported in cities also varies, with taxi and car rental problems comprising just 2% of reported fraud cases in Hong Kong and Barcelona, but 66% in Jakarta, Indonesia, the report showed. Fraud in food services is more prominent in the U.S. and Middle East, comprising 63% of reported cases in New York City, it showed. That includes restaurants that overcharge for food, add unauthorized tips, or that steal travelers’ credit card details, according to a Mastercard representative. Before the trip begins Beyond peak seasons, travel fraud is also on the rise during the booking stage, Mann said. Trip planning fraud rose more than 12% last year, the report stated, be it via doctored photographs, malicious “confirmation” links that expose banking details, or other forms of trickery. Travelers should watch out for unusually low prices and summer rates that are “too good to be true,” especially in popular tourist destinations that attract large crowds, the report stated. To protect themselves against fraudulent activity, travelers can set up digital wallets, buy travel insurance or book trips using a credit card with fraud protection, it said. GM to stop exporting vehicles from US to China, company says GM to stop exporting vehicles from US to China, company says By Kalea Hall DETROIT (Reuters) – General Motors late last week informed employees and dealers for its China export business it would stop shipping vehicles to China from the United States, the company said. The move comes as the United States and China continue discussions on tariffs and other trade issues. GM imported vehicles to China from the United States through its Durant Guild premium import business, which represented less than 0.1% of the volume it sells in China, according to a company spokesperson. “Due to significant changes to economic conditions, we have decided to restructure The Durant Guild and correspondingly optimize GM China’s operations,” the spokesperson said in a statement. Goods imported into China from the United States faced tariffs of more than 100% before the two countries agreed to lower the levies for 90 days. 15. Minecraft Warden Spawns, Drops, And How To Beat Minecraft Warden Spawns, Drops, And How To Beat The Warden is one of the deadliest Minecraft mobs in the game, but it’s actually not supposed to be treated like a boss. The best way to deal with the Minecraft Warden is to sneak around and avoid it, so that you can access valuable Ancient City loot. However, if you find yourself curious and wanting to look him in the eye, this guide will detail which Minecraft biomes to find him in, how to spawn him, and how to beat him if running away isn’t as successful as you’d like it to be. How to find the Warden The Warden will spawn in Deep Dark caves, and you’ll be able to tell if you’re in an area where he can appear, as there’ll be a lot of Sculk littering the ground and walls. Sculk is a deep midnight-blue block with flecks of electric blue. It starts off sparsely dotted around, but as the cave opens up, it becomes very dense and is joined by Sculk Sensors and Sculk Shriekers. The Warden will rise out of the ground when triggered. The Warden doesn’t automatically spawn in these areas, though. Instead, a player needs to trigger four Sculk Shriekers. You’ll know the Shrieker has been activated as blue sonar waves will be emitted from it. To trigger one, you need to directly step on a Sculk Sensor or cause a vibration by moving or interacting with something close to it. The sensor will then send a signal to the Shrieker, which will make a loud noise. After triggering the Shrieker, or any Shrieker, four times, a Warden will rise from the ground, and the surrounding area will get darker. How to beat the Warden As mentioned, the Warden isn’t really intended to be fought. By sneaking around and trying to avoid it, Mojang introduced a horror-like suspense to Minecraft that’ll have your heart racing. As the Warden is blind and relies on sound, vibration, and smell to seek out nearby threats, he can’t detect you if you’re sneaking past it. His audible heartbeat gives a good indicator of how close he is, even when the room is pitch ******. If you’re going to try running from the Warden, you can distract it with throwable items like snowballs or arrows, as the noise and vibration from them landing elsewhere will entice the Warden in their direction. However, you must either sprint away as soon as it’s at the distraction location or continue to sneak in the opposite direction. The Warden’s sonic ***** is a powerful ranged attack. The Warden will react to you running, jumping, mining, building, or attacking anything and will turn and sprint towards you. If it reaches you, it has a ranged sonic ***** attack which deals 6HP damage, and an even more painful melee attack dealing 16HP damage, meaning it’ll make quick work of killing you unless you’re out of its reach. If you do choose to fight the Warden, one technique we’ve used is crafting a lot of anvils and building a tower out of its reach, dropping the Anvils on its head. It has 500 health points, so it’s not easy to take down, but not impossible. Should you manage to kill it, it will drop five experience points and a Sculk Catalyst. If you’re looking for more tips and tricks, check out our Minecraft guides hub, which covers how to show your coordinates if you’re lost seeking the Warden, and what the Java vs Bedrock differences are. 16. Debt cloud suddenly hangs over megabill talks Debt cloud suddenly hangs over megabill talks Republicans knew they’d have to overcome fierce internal divisions, thorny policy trade-offs and rock-solid Democratic resistance to pass their massive domestic policy bill. They didn’t count on a Wall Street backlash, too. A softening Treasury bond market and surprise downgrade Friday of U.S. creditworthiness are the latest forces weighing on the GOP megabill — an unmistakable nudge to lawmakers that investors are growing increasingly concerned about legislation that could pile trillions of dollars more onto an already staggering national debt. That message is being seen as vindication by some Republicans who have long warned about the nation’s unsustainable fiscal trajectory and who have vowed to seek massive spending cuts as part of the pending legislation. “If we don’t have a wake-up call now — all of us, Democrat, Republicans — I don’t know what it’s going to take,” said Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), one of a handful of conservative hard-liners who delayed a key House Budget Committee vote this weekend over spending concerns. But many other Republicans appear fully prepared to brush off the warnings — including the downgrade of U.S. debt from Moody’s Ratings, which directly referenced the pending legislation: “We do not believe that material multi-year reductions in mandatory spending and deficits will result from current fiscal proposals under consideration.” Trump’s National Economic Council director, Kevin Hassett, said in a Fox Business appearance Monday that the downgrade reflected former President Joe Biden’s fiscal policies and argued that the tax cuts in the megabill would position the U.S. for further growth. He also cited increasing tariff revenue that “should affect the credit rating in the end if you’ve got all this extra tax revenue coming in.” Later Monday, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) told reporters that the ratings agency “has done this every time we run up against a debt limit or we run up against a spending bill” and would “bounce it right back as soon as we pass a bill.” In fact, this is Moody’s first-ever downgrade of U.S. sovereign debt; two other ratings agencies, S&P and Fitch, previously downgraded Treasury offerings citing similar concerns about out-of-control borrowing costs and have not restored the tip-top ratings they previously enjoyed. But market watchers say it’s the pricing of Treasury debt that lawmakers should be paying close attention to as they put together President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” that is set to extend 2017 tax cuts and pile on more goodies for individuals and corporations without fully offsetting their cost. “I hope the Republican majority in Congress realize that the bond market is watching,” said economist Ed Yardeni, who coined the term “bond vigilantes” in the 1980s to describe how investors can exert fierce pressure on economic policymakers. For now, bond investors haven’t really revolted over the latest credit downgrade or the budget bill, Yardeni said, but if Republicans deliver “excessive” fiscal policy, they “could react adversely and try to force the Republicans to come up with a better program.” The Moody’s downgrade sent a shiver across Wall Street on Monday morning. Yields on longer-dated Treasury securities climbed, with the 30-year Treasury briefly jumping above 5 percent, while rates on 10-year notes — which are used to price everything from home mortgages to credit card loans — at one point rose above 4.5 percent, up about a half point on the month. While Treasury securities pared back some of those losses over the course of Monday’s trading session, Wall Street economists and market analysts said that the abrupt spike reflected a renewed focus on the U.S.’ gloomy fiscal outlook — and raised fears of a spiral of rising borrowing costs fueling more debt. Prominent business leaders with close ties to Republicans, like Citadel’s Ken Griffin and Ray Dalio of Bridgewater Associates, have dialed up warnings of the deep risks posed by excessive deficit spending. This echoes the longstanding concerns of traditional conservatives who have long called for significantly lower levels of government spending. “If we get to the point where people are no longer willing to buy Treasuries, then we’re in real trouble with a sovereign debt crisis,” said Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa.), who voted to advance the bill Sunday in the Budget Committee. But Trump’s agenda has not prioritized fiscal rectitude, and the president’s appetite for deep tax cuts combined with thin congressional majorities that are reluctant to cut too deeply into the American social safety net are adding up to another deficit-busting bill. The GOP megabill hasn’t been fully scored by the Congressional Budget Office, but preliminary estimates produced by the Yale Budget Lab and the Penn Wharton Budget Model project that it would add $3.4 trillion to federal deficits over the next decade. Republicans who say the bill won’t add to the national debt are including economic growth projections that most economists consider to be unrealistic. “Nothing that the administration is doing presently is in the direction of trying to right the fiscal house,” said Yale Budget Lab President Natasha Sarin, a former top adviser to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. Meanwhile, the cadre of congressional fiscal hawks who have insisted on deep spending cuts appear to be in retreat. When the Moody’s downgrade hit Friday, House GOP hard-liners felt they had maximum pressure to force major changes in the bill — including dramatically restructuring the design of the spending cuts, which are backloaded toward the end of the bill’s 10-year lifespan. But all signs are that the Republican Party’s Trump-centric politics are set to outweigh any push for fiscal purity. The president and White House officials were enraged after the handful of Budget Committee holdouts tanked the key vote Friday, and as a weekend of tense talks wore on, it became increasingly clear that the Moody’s downgrade actually ramped up pressure for the budget hawks to fall in line, according to three Republicans granted anonymity to describe the talks. Amid rising Treasury rates, a weakening dollar, and ongoing fallout from Trump’s global tariff regime — including an announcement last week from Walmart that it would need to raise prices — the downgrade added another concern for the health of the U.S. economy. The White House circulated a report over the weekend underscoring the need to pass the bill in order to keep businesses and households from being swamped by tax hikes. Four key hard-liners, including Norman, voted “present” in a Budget Committee revote Sunday night, allowing the bill to advance. They are now pushing for changes to Medicaid provisions and clean-energy tax credits that could reap significant savings, though at least some of that could be used to offset additional tax cuts, leaving the bill’s overall fiscal footprint largely unchanged. One hard-right proposal that is likely to be incorporated is to implement work requirements for Medicaid as soon as 2027 — two years sooner than in the initial draft of the House bill. Paul Winfree, a veteran conservative policy analyst, said the hard-liners were smart to push for the cuts to bite sooner. The markets, he said, “may be sending a signal that they’re skeptical that the savings in the future will materialize. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that the spending reductions start much sooner than 2028 or 2029.” Jordain Carney contributed to this report. Vacation and travel in Australia. Prasit Photo | Moment | Getty Images Asia-Pacific markets were set to climb Tuesday as investors look toward the Reserve Bank of Australia’s policy rate decision, as well as the listing of the world’s largest battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 is set to open higher, with the futures contract in Chicago at 37,640 while its counterpart in Osaka last traded at 37,570, against the index’s last close of 37,498.63. Likewise, Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 is set to rise, with futures standing at 8,384, higher than the index’s close of 8,295.1. Futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index stood at 23,378, slightly higher than its last close of 23,332.72. The Reserve Bank of Australia is slated to release its policy rate decision later in the day. Australia’s inflation has been easing, with the most recent headline inflation coming in at a four-year in at a four-year low of 2.4% in the first quarter of 2025. The Reserve Bank of Australia has emphasized in its previous monetary policy statement that bringing inflation to its 2% to 3% target range sustainably remains its highest priority. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia expects the RBA to cut the cash rate by 25 basis points to 3.85%. The RBA said in its previous monetary policy statement that returning inflation sustainably to its target of between 2% and 3% “within a reasonable timeframe” is its highest priority. China is also slated to report its loan prime rate decision. The People’s Bank of China is expected to cut its 1-Year Loan Prime Rate (LPR) and 5-Year LPR by 10 bps to 3.00% and 3.50% respectively, said Lazard’s Chief Markets Strategist Ronald Temple. “While the decrease is very small, it is yet another signal that the central government is still working to stimulate economic activity, albeit in a suboptimal and insufficient manner,” Temple said in a note late Monday. Investors are also looking toward the listing of the CATL on the Hong Kong stock exchange, in what will reportedly be the largest global listing in 2025. U.S. stock futures were little changed. S&P 500 futures rose less than 0.1%. Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.1%, while futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 54 points, or 0.14%. Overnight stateside, the three major averages closed higher. The S&P 500 posted a slim gain on Monday as Treasury yields came off their highs and investors sought to look past Moody’s downgrade of the United States’ credit rating. The benchmark added 0.09% and closed at 5,963.60, marking its sixth consecutive winning session. The Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.02% to end at 19,215.46. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 137.33 points, or 0.32%, and settled at 42,792.07. The 30-stock index was aided by a rebound in UnitedHealth, which saw an 8% jump after a recent bout of hard selling. — CNBC’s Lisa Kailai Han and Alex Harring contributed to this report. 19. White House says Trump was speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views when he said she was ‘no longer hot’ White House says Trump was speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views when he said she was ‘no longer hot’ The White House has now responded to US President Donald Trump’s recent comment suggesting that Taylor Swift is “no longer hot.” On Friday, May 16, Mr Trump posted on Truth Social, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” It was the latest escalation in a months-long pattern of jabs at the pop star, which began in the lead-up to the 2024 US election. But during a White House press briefing on Monday, May 19, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked, “What does President Trump mean when he says that Taylor Swift is no longer hot?” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied, “Look, he is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work. I will leave it at that.” During the election campaign, Swift publicly denounced the use of AI-generated images of herself in pro-Trump campaign materials and called out misinformation online. Then, almost immediately after the first debate between former Vice President Kamala Harris and Mr Trump, Swift spoke out and endorsed the Democrat presidential nominee. “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” the singer wrote before asking her followers to do their research before deciding who to vote for. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift said to her 283 million Instagram followers. Swift has not responded to Mr Trump’s latest post or the White House’s comments. Kennedy Jr announced the Food and Drug Administration’s intent to phase out the use of petroleum-based synthetic dyes in the nation’s food supply. The West Coast-based burger chain will be changing the recipe used to create its popular strawberry shake and signature pink lemonade in order to remove the red dye No. 40 in the drinks. In-N-Out also revealed that it would be making changes to its ketchup, and switching out the ingredient, high fructose corn syrup, for real sugar. According to a statement, In-N-Out Owner and President Lynsi Snyder shared with Newsweek, the red dye will be replaced with beta carotene and vegetable juice. “We’ve additionally introduced a healthier beverage sweetener option by replacing sucralose and saccharin sweetener packets with Stevia Leaf Extract, and added a non-dairy alternative, oat milk creamer,” she told the publication. “We’re also in the process of transitioning to ketchup made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, and researching an even better-quality oil for our fries.” The burger chain will be changing its recipe for its popular strawberry shake and signature pink lemonade (Getty Images) The burger chain has become one of the first fast-food chains to start shifting away from using petroleum-based synthetic dyes since the HHS and FDA made the announcement last month. The Trump administration said the move to eliminate synthetic dyes from the food supply by the end of next year could mark a “major step forward” in the drive to “Make America Healthy Again.” The ban would impact products such as breakfast cereals, candy and snacks. The dyes have been tied to neurological problems in some children. “For too long, some food producers have been feeding Americans petroleum-based chemicals without their knowledge or consent,” Kennedy said in a statement at the time. “These poisonous compounds offer no nutritional benefit and pose real, measurable dangers to our children’s health and development.” He added: “We’re restoring gold-standard science, applying common sense, and beginning to earn back the public’s trust. And, we’re doing it by working with industry to get these toxic dyes out of the foods our families eat every day.” At a cabinet meeting at the beginning of April, Kennedy claimed the dyes directly affect “academic performance, violence in the schools, and mental health, as well as physical health.” The department said the FDA is fast-tracking the review of natural alternatives to synthetic dyes and that its agency is taking steps to issue guidance and provide regulatory flexibilities to industries. “We have a new epidemic of childhood diabetes, obesity, depression, and ADHD,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary said during the initial announcement. “Given the growing concerns of doctors and parents about the potential role of petroleum-based food dyes, we should not be taking risks and do everything possible to safeguard the health of our children.” Source link #InNOut #Burger #forced #change #menu #RFKs #rule Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

French police rediscovered the marble bust while carrying out a search in a completely unrelated fraud investigation. Authorities have yet to share further details, meaning there’s still some mystery left as to who’s responsible for decapitating the statue, and where it’s been hiding all these years. It’s also unclear if the statue will now be returned to Morrison’s gravesite. More from Rolling Stone A rep for the Morrison estate tells Rolling Stone it was “happy to hear the news” of the statue’s re-discovery, adding, “Obviously it’s a piece of history, and one Jim’s family wanted there on his grave, so it’s gratifying to see that it’s been recovered.” The bust of Morrison was sculpted by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin and unveiled in 1981 on the 10th anniversary of Morrison’s death. During its seven year stint atop Morrison’s headstone, fans took to covering the bust in graffiti, as well as chipping off parts souvenirs. A photo shared by French authorities following the bust’s recovery showed it covered in writing and still missing its nose. There have of course been plenty of rumors regarding the theft since the statue went missing. Two anonymous fans claimed credit for the heist in Globe magazine a few weeks after the statue went missing (per Vanity Fair). While some have long speculated that it was actually the Père-Lachaise that removed the bust in an effort to preserve it. Morrison’s grave has, of course, long been a shrine for Doors fans, who have flocked to the cemetery for years, to pay their respects. Along with adorning Morrison’s tomb with graffiti, fans have also taken to scrawling directions to the tomb on the gravestones of other people buried at Père-Lachaise.
