Police identify victim and gunman in Las Vegas gym shooting
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The person killed in a shooting at a Las Vegas fitness center last week was a longtime employee who had no known connection to the shooter, police said Monday.
Edgar Quinonez, 31, of Las Vegas, was shot and killed Friday at the Las Vegas Athletic Club, police said.
Arriving officers fired at the suspected shooter, 34-year-old Daniel Ortega, as he exited the gym after firing 24 rounds, police said. Ortega, a gym member, died of gunshot wounds, according to police.
Three other people were injured at the gym on the city’s west side as gunfire erupted. They were transported to local hospitals, with one in critical condition. Their conditions weren’t released on Monday.
Officials are still investigating a motive, saying they have found no connection between the two men.
Jamie Prosser, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department assistant sheriff, said at a media briefing on Monday that Ortega entered the gym with a rifle on Friday afternoon.
She said he approached an employee at the front desk and paced around before briefly exchanging words with another employee. Then he lifted the rifle and shot the employee as he fled into the gym, she said.
Ortega followed and continued firing, Prosser said, and at some point Ortega returned to the lobby and fired until the weapon malfunctioned. An arriving officer fired at Ortega when he opened the entrance door and he was shot by officers as he left the building with the rifle. He died at a nearby hospital, police said.
She said Ortega worked out at the gym but at this time there was no known connection to the victim.

Super Rugby Pacific: Western Force star and Wallabies flanker Carlo Tizzano to re-sign with hometown club
Super Rugby Pacific: Western Force star and Wallabies flanker Carlo Tizzano to re-sign with hometown club
Western Force star and West *********** Wallaby Carlo Tizzano is set to return to his hometown club, with the star flanker signing a new deal.
Amid reported interest from overseas, The West *********** understands the UWA product has opted to stay in Perth and signed a new deal keeping him in Australia for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
A graduate of the Force academy, Tizzano returned to the club in 2023 after spells at the Waratahs and Ealing Trailfinders in England and has gone from strength to strength since.
With a looming, once-in-a-lifetime World Cup two years away, Rugby Australia and the Force have moved to ensure the tackling machine will remain in Super Rugby ahead of the tournament, as any overseas move would have threatened his Wallabies eligibility.
After a breakout 2024 season which saw him earn a maiden Wallabies cap, Tizzano has gone on to establish himself as one of the best openside flankers in Super Rugby Pacific.
Despite having missed the last two games due to injury, Tizzano has recorded league-leading 12 tries – the equal-most ever scored by a forward in a Super Rugby season.
He also sits third in tackles made with 180, but was the runaway leader in that stat until his injury.
The form of the 25 year-old has put him in fourth spot in voting for the inaugural super Rugby Player of the Year award, second among Australians only behind Brumbies forward Tom Hooper.
Tizzano’s superb season has also raised talk of him seriously challenging Wallabies incumbent and Queensland star Fraser McReight for the no.7 jersey when test season starts.
Force coach Simon Cron told reporters in early April they were eager to keep the out-of-contract Tizzano in his home state.
“Carlo’s a great man, we love having him in our environment. He’s got a contract from us and Rugby Australia on the table, so I’m sure he’s just going through his process at the moment,” he said.
Camera IconTizzano is a fan favourite with the Sea of Blue. Credit: Paul Kane/Getty Images
“He likes being in our environment and we like having him, so those two things are the most important
“I’m 100 per cent sure he wants to stay, it’s just him working through it. He’s got a lovely partner and he comes from here, and they’ll work through that process.”
Tizzano’s pectoral injury is not expected to be in doubt for the looming British and Irish Lions series.

Diddy Hotel Room Photos From Arrest Entered as Evidence in Trial
Federal agents testified they found drugs, baby oil, lubricant and cash stashed in Diddy‘s New York City hotel room after his September 2024 arrest … they took photos as evidence, and now we’re seeing what they say they found.
Diddy Court Exhibits – Click image to open gallery
Dozens of photos from inside Diddy’s hotel room at the Park Hyatt Hotel in NYC have now been entered as exhibits in the case … and we’ve compiled some of the most interesting images for you to peruse.
TMZ
In new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, the feds say they recovered two clear plastic Ziploc bags in an orange prescription bottle … and inside the baggies were pink solid material. The feds say one bag tested positive for ketamine and the other tested positive for MDMA and ketamine.
The bags were actually shown in court last week during testimony from Department of Homeland Security agent Yasin Binda … and the bags with the pink drugs were passed from juror to juror.
TMZ
Binda also showed off a fanny pack with $9,000 in cash inside — which Binda says was recovered from Diddy’s hotel room — and there’s a photo showing the cash in these exhibits.
TMZ
The DHS agent testified a bottle of prescription medication clonazepam was found in an orange prescription bottle made out to Frank ****** — Cassie testified that was an alias Diddy used — and we see this bottle in the photos.

Binda’s show-and-tell with the jury also featured bottles of Astroglide lubricant and Johnson’s baby oil … and those appear to be in the photos as well.
TMZ
TMZ broke the story … federal agents arrested Diddy at the Park Hyatt Hotel on September 16, 2024 after he was indicted by a grand jury.
We previously obtained video of his arrest, showing him entering the lobby from the street in a ****** trench coat before being swarmed by law enforcement.

Gilbert cops latest injury hit in blow for state, club
Tom Gilbert will have surgery on a ruptured pectoral muscle and miss at least 12 weeks in the latest injury blow for the luckless Dolphins and Queensland prop.
Th 24-year-old’s faint hopes of featuring for the Maroons in this year’s State of Origin series were officially dashed on Tuesday when the severity of his injury was confirmed.
Gilbert missed all of 2024 with a knee reconstruction and a large portion of 2023 with a shoulder injury suffered during his second Origin appearance.
There was hope this complaint would not keep him off the park for long, but on Tuesday the Dolphins spun a potential round 24 return for their captain as good news.
“These type of rehabilitations always have some variables,” Dolphins head of performance Jeremy Hickmans said.
“But if Tom was able to come back somewhere around that 12-week time frame he would certainly be in line to play some games at the back end of the season.
“In previous seasons he has shown how diligent he is with his rehabilitation and that will also be a factor.”
The Dolphins (4-7) are 14th on the ladder as they hunt a maiden finals appearance in their third NRL season.

Gun malfunction stopped ‘mass-casualty’ event during Las Vegas gym shooting: police
Gun malfunction stopped ‘mass-casualty’ event during Las Vegas gym shooting: police
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A gun malfunction during a deadly Las Vegas gym shooting Friday likely “saved the incident from being a mass-casualty event,” police said Monday.
The gunman was identified Monday as Daniel Ortega, 34, the 8 News Now Investigators first reported.
Police shot and killed Ortega, of North Las Vegas, after the shooting inside the Las Vegas Athletic Club last Friday on Rainbow Boulevard near Vegas Drive. Edgar Quinonez, a longtime employee, was killed, the business said Saturday.
Three other people were injured in the shooting.

Ortega worked as a bellman at a Las Vegas Strip property, several sources told the 8 News Now Investigators. A ******** home caring for his remains had no comment Monday on behalf of the family.
RELATED: Las Vegas Athletic Club reopens after deadly shooting
On May 16, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Ortega arrived at the gym, armed with an Olympic Arms PCR-223 caliber rifle and “multiple” ammunition magazines, LVMPD Asst. Sheriff Jamie Prosser said.
Ortega walked passed several people who were leaving the gym and approached an employee, who was working the front desk. Prosser said Ortega then began to “pace” around the front desk while several other people left the business.
A second employee approached Ortega and the two “briefly exchanged words.” The employee ran away after Ortega raised the rifle and began to shoot, hitting the employee.

Ortega followed the employee deeper into the business, continuing to shoot, before making his way back to the front lobby, where he continued to shoot, Prosser said.
At some point during the incident, Ortega’s weapon malfunctioned, Prosser said, though she did not specify how. She later said this malfunction “saved the incident from being a mass-casualty event.”
At around 1:35 p.m., several people called 911 to report what was happening, and officers were sent to the gym.
“I think I saw someone come in with an AR,” a person who called 911 said.
Moments later, shots could be heard over the call.
At 1:39 p.m., Officers Kaid Urban, Skeeter ******, and Aaron Javier arrived at the gym. All three officers approached the front doors and saw Ortega.
Officers involved in shooting at Las Vegas gym identified
Officer Javier fired a round through the window at Ortega. Shortly after, Ortega left the gym and attempted to run past the officers.
Officer Urban fired four rounds, and Officer ****** fired one, hitting Ortega.
Police then took Ortega into custody and began providing life-saving measures. Medical personnel arrived and took Ortego to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Additional officers arrived and located Quinonez, as well as three other victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel took them to local hospitals.
Police later learned another person took themselves to another hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Prosser said during the briefing that as of Monday afternoon, police could not confirm anything regarding motive as the investigation was still ongoing.
She said Ortega was a member of the gym and worked out at that location, but there is no connection between the victim and the suspect.
Ortega would have faced the following charges if he had survived:
One count of ******* with a deadly weapon
Three counts of attempted *******
Three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person
Five counts of assault with a deadly weapon
This incident marks the third officer-involved shooting in 2025 and the third fatal. At this time in 2024, Metro had three officer-involved shootings, with three fatalities.

A Texas man was mowing his property when a swarm of bees attacked. He died soon after.
A Texas man was mowing his property when a swarm of bees attacked. He died soon after.
A Texas man has died after being attacked by a swarm of bees.
Steven William Daniel of Cisco died on April 27 in Eastland, Texas, about 130 miles southwest of Dallas, according to an incident report obtained by USA TODAY on Monday.
Eastland Police Department officers responding to a call about a crashed vehicle found Daniel swarmed by the bees, the agency said in a news release. Officers took Daniel out of his truck and put him in a police car until an ambulance could arrive and take him to a hospital. During the ambulance ride, Daniel stopped breathing and became unresponsive, the department said.
Although Daniel, 66, was not allergic to bees, he died later that evening of circulator collapse from the bee stings, according to the incident report. Circulatory collapse, or circulatory shock, occurs when the body’s circulation system is compromised, resulting in inadequate blood flow to the body’s vital organs.
Cyd Daniel, Daniel’s wife, told Texas television station KTAB/KRBC that her husband had been mowing a property they owned in Eastland when he encountered the bees. Over the seven years the couple owned the property, he had never had an issue with bees, Cyd said.
Bee swarm: Bees attack and kill 3 horses in Texas: ‘They didn’t give up’
Cyd described her late husband to KTAB/KRBC as funny and quiet, someone who believe in safety first.
“I believe this happened for a reason, and I think it’s to warn the rest of us,” Cyd told the local television station. “And if it helps one person or one kid or people at a birthday party, then he helped. He made a difference.”
Cyd did not immediately respond when contacted by USA TODAY on May 19.
More bees attack in region
Another fatal bee attack in region happened less than two weeks after Daniel’s death.
On May 9, a swarm of what are believed to be Africanized honey bees, also known as killer bees, attacked and killed three horses in Comanche, Texas, just about 50 miles southeast of Eastland.
That attack involved millions of bees that also attacked the owner of the horses.
“They attacked me as soon as I got outside,” Baillie Hillman told USA TODAY. “They were in my ears, my glasses, my hair.” She escaped and got back inside.
It’s unclear what kind of bees attacked Daniel.
How many people die from bee stings each year?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 72 people died from hornet, wasp and bee stings each year between 2011 and 2021.
A bee seaches for nectar in the flowers of a blossoming cherry tree near downtown Stockton on Feb. 15, 2015.
Keeping safe around bees this spring
Spring is a busy time for bees. They’re emerging to forage, reproduce and sometimes, look for a new home, Texas Beeworks founder Erika Thompson told USA TODAY. If you encounter bees this spring, the best thing to do is stay calm. Avoid sudden movements, swatting and loud noises because bees are sensitive to vibrations, Thompson said.
Thompson said if you are stung by a bee, remove the stinger as soon as possible because it can continue to release venom even after the sting.
Regularly inspect your property for gaps, cracks or open vents − areas that bees can squeeze into, Thompson said. Seal any unwanted openings with fine mesh, caulk or weather stripping. If you find a hive in an unwanted area on your property, contact a local beekeeper or bee removal specialist for ethical relocation. Don’t try to handle the hive on your own.

CSBP steams ahead with decarbonisation as new technology slashes emissions
CSBP steams ahead with decarbonisation as new technology slashes emissions
Fertiliser giant CSBP is steaming ahead with its decarbonisation program with new technology installed at one of its Kwinana plants expected to slash carbon emissions by 98 per cent.
WA Premier Roger Cook was on hand to celebrate the installation of new tertiary abatement technology at one of CSBP’s three nitric acid and ammonium nitrate plants in Kwinana, on May 7.
Nitric acid is used to produce ammonium nitrate, which CSBP uses to manufacture fertiliser and other products for WA’s agricultural sector, as well as explosives for the State’s mining industry.
WesCEF managing director Aaron Hood said the project was a model example of industry and government working together “towards a common goal of decarbonisation”.
Camera IconCockburn MLA David Skaife, WA Premier Roger Cook and and Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers managing director Aaron Hood. Ian Munro Credit: Ian Munro/The West ***********
“WesCEF has always been an early adopter of emission reduction technology, and what we have installed is best-in-class and allows us to continue to support key customers in agriculture and mining industries here in WA,” he said.
“Our decarbonisation journey began in 2012 when we first installed abatement technology in our plants, and as a result, we’ve abated over 10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over the past 13 years.”
The company plans to install the additional abatement technology in CSBP’s two other, older, plants by 2030.
All three of the plants had abatement technology installed more than 10 years ago, when CSBP — which is owned by Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers, abbreviated to WesCEF — started its decarbonisation program in 2012.
But the new technology would further reduce nitrous oxide levels to what the company says are “negligible levels”.
The technology works by converting greenhouse gasses into less-harmful substances before they are released into the atmosphere.
Mr Cook said the project was the “exact thing” he wanted to see more of in WA, with the WA Government having committed to reducing government emissions by 80 per cent below 2020 levels by 2030.
“I want to ensure WA’s economy remains the strongest in the nation,” he said.
“By helping decarbonise major job-creating projects, we are ensuring WA’s industry is the best in Australia and our jobs market remains the envy of the nation.”
WesCEF has a target of slashing its emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 before reaching net zero in 2050.
The project was partially funded by a $500,000 grant from the State Government’s Carbon Innovation Grants Program, which was launched in 2021 to help heavy industry transition to net zero.
CCUS projects in the pipeline in WA have the potential to store more than 20 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year — this is equal to about a quarter of WA’s current scope one emissions

Toyota’s newest EV is coming, and it’s a gas throwback. What to know
Toyota’s newest EV is coming, and it’s a gas throwback. What to know
Toyota has long steered clear of battery electric vehicles in its American portfolio — until now. The automaker is rebranding the bZ4X electric SUV as the bZ and giving it a complete redesign.
Toyota is also reviving a subcompact SUV nameplate that it axed back in 2022. The Toyota C-HR is being revived as an electric vehicle for the U.S. market. It’s features and a new powertrain could make the 2026 Toyota C-HR electric SUV more appealing than its predecessor, here’s what to know.
Is the Toyota C-HR coming to America?
Toyota’s C-HR subcompact SUV is returning to America for 2026 as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The new 2026 Toyota C-HR will join the Toyota bZ as the company’s only electric vehicles for the American market. Luckily for consumers, the C-HR’s powertrain is just the beginning of its list of new features.
The 2026 C-HR has an all-new design language, making it completely different from the discontinued gas model.
2026 Toyota C-HR redesign features
14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
25.4 cubic feet of cargo space (behind rear seats)
North American Charging System port
Toyota’s new C-HR subcompact SUV is an electric vehicle that “has a performance-inspired spirit” according to Toyota. The Japanese automaker calls this iteration of the C-HR stylish and powerful, which is a stark contrast from the discontinued 2022 model year, based on a vehicle review from Kelley Blue Book.
How much driving range does the 2026 Toyota C-HR have?
The 2026 Toyota C-HR has “a manufacturer-estimated all electric drive rating of up to 290 miles”, says Toyota. The automaker notes that ranges and charging times will vary depending on weather and additional factors. EV battery performance tends to be sensitive to extreme temperatures, as reported by Scientific American in February, 2024.
The SUV produces a whopping 338 horsepower. Standard all-wheel drive gives the EV more traction than its previous iteration. Toyota’s newest EV is expected to hit dealerships in 2026, says Toyota. Since the C-HR is noticeably smaller than the Toyota bZ, it’s likely to be the company’s most affordable electric vehicle yet based on segment prices. It will compete against models like the Hyundai Kona Electric ($32,975) and Kia Niro EV ($39,600).
Why did Toyota discontinue the Toyota C-HR?
The Toyota C-HR was discontinued after the 2022 model year for a number of reasons. The newer Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid models were more recognizable and appealing, as reported by MotorTrend. Honda redesigned its own subcompact SUV, the HR-V, for 2023. This could be a sign that both Japanese automakers found their subcompact SUV models were due for a serious change.
Toyota’s newest version of the C-HR is a second-chance for the nameplate to make a big impact. This time, the C-HR emerges in a less-populated segment. Hyundai Motor Company is the company to beat in the subcompact electric SUV space, its Kona EV recently won an award from J.D. Power for residual value.
The 2026 Toyota C-HR may not have many competitors, but competition remains stiff. Toyota’s upcoming bZ and C-HR nameplates will fight for market share as EVs continue to rise in popularity.

Senate advances legislation to regulate stablecoins, a form of cryptocurrency
Senate advances legislation to regulate stablecoins, a form of cryptocurrency
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate has voted to move forward with legislation to regulate a form of cryptocurrency called stablecoins, two weeks after Democrats blocked the measure.
Monday’s 66-32 procedural vote keeps one of President Donald Trump’s top legislative priorities on track for passage and highlights the growing political strength of the cryptocurrency industry, which spent heavily in last year’s election and has amassed a large war chest for next year’s midterms. Several Democrats reversed and voted to move forward with the legislation after negotiations with Republicans in recent days.
The fate of the legislation, which would regulate how stablecoin issuers operate in the U.S., had been uncertain in recent weeks despite early bipartisan support. Senate Democrats blocked it earlier this month in part over concerns about how Trump and his family were benefiting from private crypto endeavors, including a newly launched stablecoin.
Republicans won support from Democrats after strengthening regulations on foreign issuers, beefing up enforcement and barring large tech companies like Meta and Google from issuing their own stablecoins. The Senate will now consider the bill and could vote on final passage as soon as this week, depending on the number of amendments offered by Democrats and Republicans.
Still, Democrats were divided on the legislation. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and others have said the bill could help Trump enrich himself and needs stronger protections.
“Unfortunately, the final bill does nothing — nothing — to rein in the President’s crypto corruption,” Warren said ahead of the bill’s passage. She said the legislation would “accelerate Trump’s corruption by supercharging the size of the stablecoin market” and make Trump “the regulator of his own financial product.”
Negotiators added tougher ethics rules for members of Congress and the executive branch, including preventing members of Congress from issuing stablecoins. But Warren and several other Democrats said it wasn’t enough. “This Congress should be a check on the president,” Warren said.
The bill would aim to create a federal framework to regulate the stablecoin industry, which is currently governed by a patchwork of existing federal and state laws.
Stablecoins are a fast-growing corner of the cryptocurrency industry that have produced enormous profits for some of the major players involved. They offer a buffer from cryptocurrency’s notorious volatility because they are pegged to real-world assets, like U.S. dollars or gold. Typically, that means a single stablecoin is worth $1, making them a much more reliable digital asset for commercial transactions than other forms of crypto.
Story Continues
The move to regulate the industry has been bipartisan, but Trump’s involvement in the crypto industry complicated the legislation’s path. Trump launched a meme coin earlier this year that has generated more than $320 million in fees for its creators, according to the blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis. And he is set to attend a dinner May 22 that’s open to almost anyone who buys enough of the coins.
Another Trump-family linked crypto venture called World Liberty Financial recently announced that it was issuing its own stablecoin, called USD1. The stablecoin got a huge boost when World Liberty Financial announced last week that an investment fund in the United Arab Emirates would be using $2 billion worth of USD1 to purchase a stake in Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
A former skeptic turned zealous promoter, Trump has promised to usher in a golden age for the cryptocurrency industry. His administration has already taken many early actions without Congress to boost crypto, including establishing a strategic bitcoin reserve and undoing previous enforcement actions. But Trump needs Congress to get some of his and the deep-pocketed industry’s top priorities passed, including enacting the stablecoin legislation.
Democratic supporters of the legislation argued that Congress can’t step aside just because of Trump’s involvement in the market.
“The stablecoin market has reached nearly $250 billion and the U.S. can’t afford to keep standing on the sidelines,” said Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, one of the lead Democratic negotiators on the legislation. “We need clear rules of the road to protect consumers, defend national security, and support responsible innovation.”

Essendon coach Brad Scott insists he has “no issues” with resurfaced speculation linking James Hird to a remarkable return to the Bombers.
Two days after Essendon’s 91-point smashing by the Western Bulldogs, former Essendon president Paul Little gave a provocative statement saying he would not rule out a push to return to the club’s board.
The report on the Seven Network claimed should Little – who led the Bombers from 2013-15, after the damaging supplements regime – would seek to remove Scott and install Hird as coach if he was back in charge.
Club legend Hird rubbished the report just hours later on Monday night: “It’s news to me and I haven’t spoken to Paul Little for months. I nearly fell of the couch when I heard it.”
Scott has regularly spoke about the need for stability at former AFL giant Essendon, who haven’t won a finals match in 21 years, since he became coach ahead of the 2023 season.
The 49-year-old did his best to dismiss questions about the story on Tuesday, saying he didn’t “react at all”.
“The risk in any of that is that it distracts me from the task at hand,” said Scott when asked if he had sought reassurances from the current Bombers board.
“I’ve been really overwhelmed with the level of support and follow through, really the things that I made clear that were non-negotiables when I came to the club, around things like stability and support for all levels of the football club.
“Our board, executive have delivered on those things.
“I just need to focus on my job and let all the other stuff go on in the background, not let it distract me or anyone else who’s in a position, coaching or the executive.
“The thing you learn in 30 years of the AFL industry, there’s always something going on.
“The more you get distracted by those things, you take your eye off what you really need to be focused on.”
Hird coached Essendon from 2011-13, served an AFL suspension during the 2014 season, before exiting amid poor results and the flown-on effects of the supplements saga in 2015.
When the Bombers coaching job became vacant at the end of 2022, Kevin Sheedy – who still sat on the Essendon board – publicly supported Hird, even after Scott had been chosen.
Hird has made a return to coaching at VFL level this year, acting as an assistant Port Melbourne.
In a bizarre twist, Scott will appear on the Nine Network’s Footy Classified program with Hird – a regular panellist – on Tuesday night.
“We’ve known each other for over 30 years,” Scott said of his relationship with Hird.
“We don’t spend a lot of time together.
“But he’s now a member of the media, and I try to be as respectful to all members of the media as a collective.
“This might surprise you but I don’t have any issues with the last 24 hours, whatsoever.”
Essendon (5-4) sit 10th ahead of their Dreamtime clash with Richmond at the MCG on Friday night.

Nationals pull plug coalition agreement with Liberals
Nationals pull plug coalition agreement with Liberals
The Nationals have abandoned their traditional political marriage with the Liberals, following a disastrous result for the coalition in the federal election.
Nationals Leader David Littleproud announced an agreement couldn’t be reached and his party “will sit alone on a principled basis”.
“It’s on a principled position of making sure that those hard-fought wins are maintained and respected and we continue to look forward,” Mr Littleproud told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday.
“What we are saying is that what we secured in the former coalition are policies that should remain.
“We don’t want to have to look back and … re-prosecute the case.”
The Nationals spearheaded the coalition’s nuclear energy policy to build seven reactors across Australia and Mr Littleproud secured a multi-billion regional fund that would disperse $1 billion year.
Moderate Liberals in inner city seats have called for the nuclear energy policy to be dumped and a stronger climate policy to be taken to the next election.
Opposition Leader Sussan Ley faces the task of rebuilding the Liberals after a wipeout at the May 3 election.
Mr Littleproud said the door remained open for a future agreement.
“She is a leader who needs to rebuild the Liberal Party,” he said.
“They are going on a journey of rediscovery, and this will provide them the opportunity to do that without the spectre of the National Party imposing their will, but setting clear boundaries and parameters about what’s important to us.”

Yemen’s Houthis announce ‘maritime blockade’ on Israel’s Haifa port
Yemen’s Houthis announce ‘maritime blockade’ on Israel’s Haifa port
CAIRO (Reuters) -Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis announced on Monday what they called a “maritime blockade” on Israel’s Haifa port in response to Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza.
“All companies with ships present in or heading to this port are hereby notified that, as of the time of this announcement, the aforementioned port has been included in the list of targets,” the group’s spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a televised address.
The Houthis have continued to fire missiles at Israel including on Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, although they have agreed to halt attacks on U.S. ships.
The missiles launched by the group on Israel were mostly intercepted.
Israel has carried out strikes in response, including one on May 6 that damaged Yemen’s main airport in Sanaa and killed several people.

World’s biggest EV battery maker sees shares jump on debut
World’s biggest EV battery maker sees shares jump on debut
The world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) battery maker has made its debut on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, in the biggest initial public offering (IPO) so far this year.
China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Limited (CATL) produces more than a third of all EV batteries sold worldwide and supplies major carmakers including Tesla, Volkswagen and Toyota.
The company raised almost HK$35.7bn ( $4.55bn, £3.4bn) from the listing. Its shares jumped by more than 10% at the market open.
In January, the US Department of Defense added the battery maker to a list of businesses it says works with China’s military. CATL denies this, claiming its inclusion on the list was a “mistake”.
The company is already listed on China’s Shenzhen Stock Exchange, where it has a valuation of more than 1tn yuan ($138.7bn, £104.3bn).
Founded in 2011 in the eastern ******** city of Ningde, it enjoyed rapid growth thanks to the ***** in the country’s EV industry.
The battery giant employs over 100,000 people and has 13 production plants around the world.
CATL is currently building its second European factory in Hungary, after opening a plant in Germany in early 2023.
In December, the firm announced a tie-up with Chrysler-owner Stellantis to build a $4.3bn (£3.2bn) EV battery plant in Spain. The facility is set to be in operation by the end of next year.
The firm invests heavily in new technology, with six research and development centres around the world.
“The innovations that we’re seeing from CATL are unbelievable, particularly in the fast charging area”, said Tim Buckley founder of the independent *********** think tank Climate Energy Finance.
Last month, the company unveiled a new battery that it said can be charged for 323 miles (520km) in just five minutes.
CATL is a major supplier to Elon Musk’s Tesla, providing lithium iron phosphate batteries for the EV makers Shanghai factory.
But US lawmakers have expressed concerns about potential national security risks surrounding the ******** company.
In April, the chair of the House Select Committee on China wrote letters to the chief executives of JPMorgan and Bank of America, asking them to withdraw from working on CATL’s Hong Kong listing.
Despite scepticism about ******** firms from Washington, Mr Buckley says the US should be looking to work with Beijing on the advancement of renewable energy.
“They’re rejecting by far the best technology players in the world when it comes to clean tech”, he told the BBC.
