  1. *** sanctions ‘godmother’ of Israel’s settler movement Daniella Weiss *** sanctions ‘godmother’ of Israel’s settler movement Daniella Weiss The *** government has announced sanctions on Daniella Weiss, a far-right Israeli settler known as the “godmother” of the settler movement. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the move “demonstrates our determination to hold extremist settlers to account as ************ communities suffer violence and intimidation”. Weiss, 79, is the leader of a radical settler organisation called Nachala – or homeland – which has also been sanctioned. For decades, Weiss has been prominent in the founding of Jewish settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, on land captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war. In the sanctions sheet, she was described as having been involved in “threatening, perpetrating, promoting and supporting, acts of aggression and violence against ************ individuals”. An Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson described the sanctions – which also target two other settlers, two ******** settler outposts, and two organisations – as “unjustified, and regrettable”. Weiss was recently featured in Louis Theroux’s documentary “The Settlers” – and has been active in the movement to rebuild settlements in Gaza. Speaking to BBC News last year, she said: “Gaza Arabs will not stay in the Gaza Strip. Who will stay? Jews.” “The world is wide,” she added. “Africa is big. Canada is big. The world will absorb the people of Gaza. How we do it? We encourage it. Palestinians in Gaza, the good ones, will be enabled. I’m not saying forced, I say enabled because they want to go.” In response to the sanctions, Weiss said hundreds of families “are prepared and ready to implement settlement in Gaza – immediately”. Nachala called for “conquest, immigration and settlement in Gaza” and adding that it wants Israel to “continue the war until the enemy is destroyed”. The *** also announced sanctions on two other settlers – Zohar Sabah and Harel David Libi, as well as the outposts Coco’s Farm, and Neria’s Farm, and the organisation Libi Construction and Infrastructure LTD. Outposts are settlements built without official Israeli authorisation. “The Israeli government has a responsibility to intervene and halt these aggressive actions. Their consistent failure to act is putting ************ communities and the two-state solution in peril,” Lammy added. Additionally, the *** government announced it would pause free trade negotiations with Israel with immediate effect, saying “it is not possible to advance discussions” with “a Netanyahu government that is pursuing egregious policies in the West Bank and Gaza”. An Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson responded: “If, due to anti-Israel obsession and domestic political considerations, the British government is willing to harm the British economy — that is its own prerogative.” The move follows a strongly-worded joint-statement from the leaders of the ***, France and Canada on Monday which called on the Israeli government to “stop its military operations” and “immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza”. Israel has said it will allow a “basic amount of food” into Gaza, ending an 11-week blockade of the territory, which it said was aimed at pressuring ****** to release remaining hostages. But United Nations aid chief Tom Fletcher said the amount of aid was a “drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed”. 2. Minion Rush is set to receive its biggest update yet with a switch to the Unity engine Minion Rush is set to receive its biggest update yet with a switch to the Unity engine Minion Rush is set to get its ‘biggest update yet’ The update moves the top runner to Unity, with new features Endless runner mode is now officially available, with new boosters and player customisation If there’s any Gameloft release that has had a longer lifespan than anyone had expected, it’s Minion Rush. Back before Despicable Me hit cinemas, most probably didn’t expect a French animated film from a relatively obscure studio to make waves worldwide. But it certainly did, and now Gameloft are set to debut Minion Rush’s ‘biggest update ever’. Certainly, this is an update that makes it clear Gameloft envisions Minion Rush going for a long while yet. Because this update moves Minion Rush over to a brand-new engine in the form of Unity! This means a massive visual overhaul to the somewhat veteran-looking runner. More than that it also means you can enjoy a new streamlined user interface and other key features. This includes an endless runner mode! Yes, surprisingly enough, it took this long to be added, but you can access it right from the main menu. Banana You could definitely argue this update has been a long time coming in revamping Minion Rush for modern devices and players, but now that it’s here, I’m sure few of you have any complaints. In addition to the above features, you can show off your new player profile with personalised nicknames, avatars and frames. The Hall of Jam is another new feature that offers increased progression rewards, with G-Coins, Minions stickers that help upgrade or unlock costumes, story puzzle pieces, gadgets and other goodies. There’s also the new Disco-boot, Bouncer, Rocket Blade and Minion Armor power-ups to explore too! While Minion Rush presents plenty of compelling new content for fans, young and old alike, maybe you’re interested in trying something new? 4. Even Apes Are Playing Minecraft Now Even Apes Are Playing Minecraft Now Between the massive box-office of A Minecraft Movie and the game’s continuing popularity, 2025 has been a good year for Minecraft fans. And at least two of those fans are apes who were taught how to play Minecraft at the Ape Cognition & Conservation Initiative in Iowa. Via CBS News Iowa, the ACCI is dedicated to studying bonobos, an endangered species of apes who are closely related to humans, chimpanzees, and gorillas. The bonobos also have an astonishing ability to comprehend symbols and language, including the complex lexigrams they use to communicate with their human handlers. In the video below, it’s noted that two of the bonobos, Kanzi and Teko, learned to play Minecraft through a touchscreen interface. And according to the ACCI’s Sara Skiba, “It was actually Teko who had the kill shot on the Ender Dragon.” Streamer ChrisDaCow posted a longer video a year ago about how Kanzi learned to play Minecraft through a reward system that demonstrated the game’s mechanics. Essentially, Kanzi was rewarded for mining with some of his favorite snacks. And he gradually picked up on other aspects of the game as he played it. Unfortunately, Kanzi passed away earlier this year at the age of 44. According to the ACCI, Kanzi was renowned for his ability to understand conversational English even beyond the capabilities of his fellow bonobos. The ACCI also notes that the future of their studies is currently in question while facing the potential loss of government funding. Regardless, the researchers remain committed to their mission. “Here in central Iowa, we’re discovering so much about the species closest to us,” said ACI president and director Jared Taglialatela. “It’s reshaping our understanding of their species and our own.” Source link #Apes #Playing #Minecraft Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  7. Abdoulaye Doucoure: Midfielder will leave Everton this summer Abdoulaye Doucoure: Midfielder will leave Everton this summer Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has announced he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The 32-year-old Mali player has made 165 appearances for the Toffees since joining from Watford for £20m in September 2020. Doucoure has scored 21 goals for Everton, including a memorable winner in their 1-0 victory over Bournemouth when the club avoided relegation on the final day of the 2022-23 season. He joins veteran midfielder Ashley Young and goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia in leaving, while forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, midfielder Idrissa Gueye and defenders Michael Keane and Seamus Coleman are also out of contract this summer. In a video posted on social media, Doucoure said: “Hi Evertonians – just wanted to share this message with you that I’m going to leave the football club at the end of the season. “After five wonderful years, my time at Everton came to an end. “Everton means a lot for me. Obviously the past five years it’s been hard but I will always remember my time as a dream for me, to play for Everton Football Club. “Obviously I’m sad to leave the club but I think the time has come for a new chapter for me and the club as well and I will always be grateful for what the club did for me. “My best memory, I will say it will be the goal I scored against Bournemouth to keep the club in the Premier League. I think this is something I will always be proud [of]. It was a wonderful moment for me and my family and for the club as well. “I will miss the fans. I will miss the football club. I just wanted to let them know that I gave everything every single time in training, in games. “I was always proud to wear the shirts, always proud to play at Goodison Park.” The midfielder looked emotional as he was substituted in the second half of Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Southampton – Everton’s final game at their Goodison Park home. The Toffees will travel to Newcastle for their last match of the campaign this Sunday (16:00 BST) before relocating to their new Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. Doucoure added: “I gave everything to win the most games I could and I will just miss the place, and I wish them all the best in the new stadium. “Everton will always be part of my life now. I will be forever a Blue. I will always support Everton and I hope they’re going to have a bright future.” Source link #AbdoulayeDoucoure #Midfielder #leave #Everton #summer Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  8. U.S. to limit annual COVID vaccines to at-risk groups, older people – National U.S. to limit annual COVID vaccines to at-risk groups, older people – National Annual COVID-19 shots for healthy younger adults and children in the U.S. will no longer be routinely approved under a major new vaccine policy shift unveiled Tuesday by the Trump administration. Top officials for the Food and Drug Administration laid out new requirements for yearly updates to COVID shots, saying they’d continue to use a streamlined approach that would make vaccines available to adults 65 and older as well as children and younger adults with at least one health problem that puts them at higher risk. But the FDA framework urges companies conduct large, lengthy studies before tweaked vaccines can be approved for healthier people. In a framework published Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, agency officials said the approach still could keep annual vaccinations available for between 100 million and 200 million adults. The upcoming changes raise questions about people who may still want a fall COVID-19 shot but don’t clearly fall into one of the categories. Story continues below advertisement “Is the pharmacist going to determine if you’re in a high-risk group?” asked Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “The only thing that can come of this will make vaccines less insurable and less available.” Get weekly health news Receive the latest medical news and health information delivered to you every Sunday. The framework, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, is the culmination of a series of recent steps scrutinizing the use of COVID shots and raising major questions about the broader availability of vaccines under President Donald Trump. 9:34 RFK Jr. and Elizabeth Warren get into heated debate over vaccine question at confirmation hearing For years, federal health officials have told most Americans to expect annual updates to COVID-19 vaccines, similar to the annual flu shot. Just like with flu vaccines, until now the FDA has approved updated COVID shots when manufacturers provide evidence that they spark just as much immune protection as the previous year’s version. Trending Now Canada, U.K., France warn Israel of ‘concrete action’ over military expansion Canada Post workers issue strike notice for May 23 But FDA’s new guidance appears to be the end of that approach under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, who has filled the FDA and other health agencies with outspoken critics of the government’s handling of COVID shots, particularly their recommendation for young, healthy adults and children. Story continues below advertisement Tuesday’s update, written by FDA Commissioner Marty Makary and FDA vaccine chief Vinay Prasad, criticized the U.S.’s “one-size-fits-all” approach and states that the U.S. has been “the most aggressive” in recommending COVID boosters, when compared with European countries. “We simply don’t know whether a healthy 52-year-old woman with a normal BMI who has had Covid-19 three times and has received six previous doses of a Covid-19 vaccine will benefit from the seventh dose,” they wrote. Outside experts say there are legitimate questions about how much everyone still benefits from yearly COVID vaccination or whether they should be recommended for people at increased risk. An influential panel of advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is set to debate that question next month. The FDA framework announced Tuesday appears to usurp that advisory panel’s job, Offit said. He added that CDC studies have made clear that booster doses do offer protection against mild to moderate illness for four to six months after the shot even in healthy people. 9. Wall Street slips ahead of Federal Reserve commentary Wall Street slips ahead of Federal Reserve commentary Wall Street’s main indexes have fallen, with technology stocks leading declines as investors awaited commentary from Federal Reserve officials to gauge the effects of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on the central bank’s policy path. At least seven Fed officials including St Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem are scheduled to speak through the day. Traders currently expect at least two 25-basis-point rate cuts from the US Federal Reserve by the end of 2025, with the first one expected in September, according to data compiled by LSEG. Fed officials on Monday flagged the ramifications of the latest downgrade of the US government’s sovereign credit rating and uneasy market conditions. “The Fed is trying to not have (tariffs) influence what they do and they’ve said so,” said Thomas Martin, senior portfolio manager at Globalt Investments. “They certainly don’t want to raise (interest rates), and so standing pat is a pretty good thing to do.” In early trading on Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 80.50 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 42,711.57, the S&P 500 lost 20.34 points, or 0.34 per cent, to 5,943.26, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 86.45 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 19,129.01. Eight of the 11 S&P sub-sectors traded lower, with information technology, which was down 0.7 per cent, being the worst hit. Most megacap and growth stocks fell although Tesla was an outlier with a 3.4 per cent rise after Elon Musk said at an economic forum in Qatar that he was still committed to being the company’s CEO in five years’ time. Retailer Home Depot gained 1.1 per cent after beating Wall Street estimates for first-quarter sales. Amer Sports jumped 18.4 per cent after raising its 2025 revenue forecast. If current losses hold, the S&P 500 is set to snap a six-day winning streak and the Nasdaq is on pace for its first loss in three sessions. The S&P 500 ended flat on Monday as investors assessed the implications of Moody’s downgrading the US sovereign credit rating to “Aa1” from a pristine “Aaa”, citing the government’s $US36-trillion ($A56-trillion) outstanding debt and interest. Concerns about mounting US debt remained in focus, with a vote on Trump’s sweeping tax-cut bill in the House of Representatives expected this week. “We have a tremendously unified party,” Trump told reporters as he arrived at Capitol Hill on Tuesday to encourage Republican lawmakers to resolve their differences over the bill that encompasses much of his domestic agenda. US stocks have had a solid month so far, with the S&P 500 now more than 17 per cent higher than its April lows, when global markets were jolted by Trump’s reciprocal tariffs. A pause in the tariffs, a temporary trade truce between the US and China and tame inflation data pushed equities higher, although the S&P 500 is still about 3.0 per cent from its record highs. Preliminary readings of the May Purchasing Managers Index are due later in the week. AI-darling Nvidia is scheduled to report quarterly earnings on May 28. Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 1.84-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 1.71-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 posted eight new 52-week highs and no new lows while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 23 new highs and 11 new lows. 10. Palm Springs bombing suspect’s YouTube showed tests of homemade explosives, report says Palm Springs bombing suspect’s YouTube showed tests of homemade explosives, report says The suspect in the fatal car bomb attack on a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, posted a string of videos on YouTube documenting his experiments with homemade explosives, according to a report. Guy Edward Bartkus is investigators’ only suspect concerning the blast at the American Reproductive Centers of Palm Springs, which took place at 11 a. m. on Saturday morning. The 25 year-old, of nearby Twentynine Palms, is believed to be the person found dead next to the detonated Ford Fusion in its car park. Guy Edward Bartkus (FBI) Four people were injured but no members of staff or reproductive materials held at the clinic were harmed in the explosion, according to a statement. Its IVF center, housed in a single-storey building close by, was gutted. The FBI quickly labelled the incident “an intentional act of terrorism” and law enforcement officers are now reviewing social media accounts believed to have been operated by Bartkus, ABC News reports. One of these is “Indict Evolution,” a YouTube channel that has been taken down in the wake of Saturday’s events but which reportedly dates back at least six years and features videos of explosives tests with titles like “Uranium Ore Next to Geiger Counter” and “Thorite from Thorium Mine.” “We terminated channels associated with the suspect,” a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement, adding that they had been removed for violating the company’s policy regarding the promotion of violent extremism. A username that investigators believe was associated with Bartkus shared one of the videos on a suicide-themed message board on May 12, ABC reports. Then, last Thursday, the same account posted about death by carbon monoxide poisoning before alluding to “some extra drama that I probably shouldn’t say haha.” Debris covers the ground after an explosion at the American Reproductive Centers of Palm Springs in California on Saturday May 17 2025 (ABC7 Los Angeles) In other writings traced to Bartkus and cited by KCAL News, the suspect expressed antinatalist or “efilist” beliefs and described himself as a “pro-mortalist” intent on causing death “to prevent your future suffering, and, more importantly, the suffering your existence will cause to all the other sentient beings.” In a 30-minute audio clip also uncovered, Bartkus stated: “I figured I would just make a recording explaining why I’ve decided to bomb an IVF building or clinic. “Basically, it just comes down to I’m angry that I exist and that, you know, nobody got my consent to bring me here. These are people who are having kids after they’ve sat there and thought about it. How much more stupid can it get?” Law enforcement officers investigate a vehicle at the site of the explosion (ABC7 Los Angeles) Richard Bartkus, the suspect’s estranged father, has since told The New York Times his son played with matches, stink bombs and smoke bombs in his teens but “nothing major, nothing like a ‘bomb’ bomb, but he’d build rockets, shoot them in the air.” In a separate interview with KTLA, Richard Bartkus recounted how his son had once set fire to their family home: “After he had burned the house down, he started changing a little bit, he’d light fires. I was too strict for him, so he wanted to stay with Mom until the divorce came through. Mom was lenient.” While there have been past attacks on abortion clinics and people who work at them in the U.S. for many years, attacks on fertility clinics have been far rarer. Palm Springs is a city of roughly 45,000 people about a hundred miles east of Los Angeles, and has long been known as a vacation spot for the rich and famous. 11. Small but Brilliant ‘Doom Eternal’ Detail Is Why I’m Planning a Maximum Carnage Run In ‘The Dark Ages’ Small but Brilliant ‘Doom Eternal’ Detail Is Why I’m Planning a Maximum Carnage Run In ‘The Dark Ages’ The Slayer is back in Doom: The Dark Ages to wage war against the medieval forces of hell and rip apart horrors beyond comprehension limb from limb. It’s always a joy to go back to that world and kill demons. Sounds a little psychotic, but trust me, it’s honestly therapeutic as it greatly helps in anger management. What makes the Doom series one of the greatest FPS franchises is its attention to detail and, of course, its high-octane gameplay. Speaking of details, a fan noticed a never-before-seen detail in Doom Eternal’s full cover art that’ll simultaneously warm your heart and make you mad. After seeing it, I can’t wait to ******* every ****** in the way, no matter how fodder they are. Doom Eternal’s cover art features an adorable tribute to the Slayer’s **** rabbit The Slayer did what any **** owner would do | Image Credit: id Software It’s not news that the Slayer loves animals. Sure, he’s a ******-ripping, bloodthirsty killing machine, but the guy has a soft spot. A user called whited105 on the Doom subreddit noticed that the official full cover art for Eternal features the Slayer’s **** rabbit, Daisy. But, it’s so well-hidden that you’ll never find it unless you observe closely. It’s such a sweet yet depressing detail that paints a picture of the Slayer and his beginnings. When he’s not an unchained predator charging an unholy siege against the atrocities of hell, he’s a nerd and a softie. Slayer’s family, which included his rabbit, was killed during the invasion of hell on earth, which fueled his hatred for demons and started his eternity-long war against hell. This detail also proves that the developers at id Software are the best at what they do, and it’s also a great callback to the classic games. The Slayer has gone through hell and back, literally, and this detail also serves as a reminder that he wasn’t always this way. But ****** bless these demons, as we wouldn’t have an amazing Doom trilogy if it weren’t for them. Cranking heavy metal music and whacking demons is badass, but it’s important to remember that Slayer still has humanity in a corner of his soul, a corner that he buried deep down with his family. He’s still capable of love and deserves happiness, which is why I promise that I’ll rip and tear every ****** to shreds on Ultra-Nightmare difficulty in Doom: The Dark Ages, to honor the Slayer. The Slayer gets a new **** in Doom: The Dark Ages The Slayer may have lost his **** rabbit, but he’s got a giant fire-breathing upgrade in Doom: The Dark Ages. His new **** is a dragon named Serrat, which is extremely on-brand for the Slayer. The best part? You can control Serrat in all his glory in specific missions and hunt down demons, giving them the kiss of death. Giving a little backstory, Serrat is deemed to be the strongest dragon that the Sentinels had and listened to no one, because, of course, he didn’t, until The Slayer arrived. Just like Daisy, he formed a special bond with the Slayer, and the rest is history that’s worth experiencing on Game Pass. While Daisy didn’t breathe fire from her mouth, it’s still very cool to see that Slayer cares about all his pets equally. I’m sure Serrat and Daisy would’ve been best friends if the worst hadn’t come to pass already. So, what do you think about this detail on Doom Eternal’s cover art? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below. 13. Hacking contest exposes VMware security Hacking contest exposes VMware security The cyber security team at Broadcom has acknowledged that during the Pwn2Own hacking contest in Berlin in March, there were three successful attacks on the VMware hypervisor. On March 16, Nguyen Hoang Thach, a security researcher from Star Labs, successfully exploited VMware ESXi. “This is the first time VMware ESXi was exploited in the Pwn2Own hacking event,” Praveen Singh and Monty Ijzerman, from the product security and incident response team in the VMware Cloud Foundation division of Broadcom, wrote on the company’s website. This is something that has not been achieved before, according to a LinkedIn post by Bob Carver, CEO of Cybersecurity Boardroom. “This was the first time in Pwn2Own’s history, stretching back to 2007, that the hypervisor has been successfully exploited,” he wrote, adding that the hacker was able to deploy a single integer overflow exploit. Singh and Ijzerman also noted that on 17 March, Corentin Bayet, chief technology officer of Reverse Tactics, successfully exploited ESXi by chaining two vulnerabilities. According to Singh and Ijzerman, one of the vulnerabilities used in the exploit was already known. The third successful attack, also on 17 March, was run by Thomas Bouzerar and Etienne Helluy-Lafont, security experts from Synacktiv, who managed to successfully exploit the VMware workstation. Singh and Ijzerman said the team at Broadcom were actively working on the remediation. “We plan to publish a VMware Security Advisory to provide information on updates for the affected products,” they said. While Broadcom has so far committed to providing patches for zero-day exploits, its current strategy to move customers onto VMware Cloud Foundation subscription bundles may leave some VMware users with gaps in their security, especially if their support contract is up for renewal. As Computer Weekly reported earlier this month, Broadcom informed customers it would no longer renew support contracts for VMware products purchased on a perpetual licence basis and that support would only continue for those that moved to a VMware subscription. On 12 May, Broadcom issued a critical security advisory, CVE-2025-22249, which affects the Aria toolset. The Cybersecurity Centre for Belgium said that given the vulnerability requires user interaction, it could be exploited through a phishing attack if a VMware admin clicked on a malicious URL link. “If the user is logged in to their VMware Aria Automation account, the threat actor could gain full control of their account and perform any actions the user has the rights to perform. The vulnerability has a severe impact to the confidentiality and low impact to the integrity of the affected systems,” it warned, urging VMware users to “patch immediately”. Broadcom has issued patches for VMware Aria Automation 8.18.x and version 5.x and 4.x of VMware Cloud Foundation, but it has not provided any workarounds, which means those users running an older version of the tool remain at risk. There are a number of reports that many VMware customers have been sent cease-and-desist emails from Broadcom regarding their perpetual VMware licenses, which demand removal of patches and bug fixes that they may have installed. While details of the successful exploits of the VMware hypervisor have yet to be published, the patches are not yet available, and questions remain as to how widely these will be distributed. Student loan delinquencies risk ‘spillovers’ to other debts, NY Fed Student loan delinquencies risk ‘spillovers’ to other debts, NY Fed The Trump administration’s resumption of collection efforts on defaulted federal student loans has far-reaching consequences for delinquent borrowers. For starters, borrowers who are in default may have wages, tax returns and Social Security payments garnished. But involuntary collections could also have a “spillover effect,” which puts consumers at risk of falling behind on other debt repayments, according to a recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, As collection activity restarts, disposable income falls “We were obviously somewhat concerned about potential spillovers to delinquencies on other types of debt,” the New York Fed researchers said on a press call earlier this month. “During the ******* where people were not required to make payments on their student loans, they could have used that money to pay their credit card bills and auto loans,” the researchers said. “Now they have to make these payments again on their student loans, so that could put pressure on their ability to pay these other loans.” More from Personal Finance:Wage garnishment for defaulted student loans to beginWhat loan forgiveness opportunities remain under TrumpIs college still worth it? Monthly collections on defaulted loans may reduce disposable personal income between $3.1 billion and $8.5 billion a month, according to research by JPMorgan. “Part of the reason that some people are adding to credit card debt is because they have student loan payments — that’s the spillover effect,” said Ted Rossman, senior industry analyst at Bankrate. “Something’s got to give.” ‘It’s just money that can’t go to other financial things’ Until earlier this month, the Department of Education had not collected on defaulted student loans since March 2020. After the Covid pandemic-era pause on federal student loan payments expired in September 2023, the Biden administration offered borrowers another year in which they would be shielded from the impacts of missed payments. That on-ramp officially ended on Sept. 30, 2024, and the Education Department restarted collection efforts on defaulted student loans on May 5. Whether borrowers face garnishment, or opt to resume payments to get current on their loan, that’s likely to have a significant impact on their wallet. “It’s just money that can’t go to other financial things,” said Matt Schulz, chief credit analyst at LendingTree. After the five-year pause ended and collections resumed, the delinquency rate for student loan balances spiked, the New York Fed found. Nearly 8% of total student debt was reported as 90 days past due in the first quarter of 2025, compared with less than 1% in the previous quarter. Currently, around 42 million Americans hold federal student loans and roughly 5.3 million borrowers are in default, according to the Education Department. Another 4 million borrowers are in “late-stage delinquency,” or more than 90 days past due on payments. Among borrowers who are now required to make payments — not including those who are in deferment or forbearance or are currently enrolled in school — nearly 1 in 4 student loan borrowers are behind in their payments, the New York Fed found. As borrowers transition out of forbearance and into repayment, those borrowers may also face challenges making payments, according to a separate research note by Bank of America. “This transition will likely drive delinquencies and defaults on student loans higher and could have further knock-on effects for consumer finance companies,” Bank of America analyst Mihir Bhatia wrote to clients on May 15. In a blog post, the New York Fed researchers noted that “it is unclear whether these penalties will spill over into payment difficulties in other credit products, but we will continue to monitor this space in the coming months.” Don’t miss these insights from CNBC PRO Source link #Student #loan #delinquencies #risk #spillovers #debts #Fed Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  15. This fantastic early Memorial Day deal sees the RTX 4060-powered MSI Thin drop to only $649 — one of the lowest prices I’ve ever seen for a laptop of this caliber This fantastic early Memorial Day deal sees the RTX 4060-powered MSI Thin drop to only $649 — one of the lowest prices I’ve ever seen for a laptop of this caliber It’s building up to Memorial Day on the 26th May, 2025, and here we have a gaming laptop deal at an exceptional price for the performance it can offer. It’s comprised of components from previous generations, but should still offer more than adequate performance in modern games. Available at Walmart, you can pick up this great gaming laptop deal on MSI’s Thin 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop for just $649. This is a drop in price of $350 from its original list price of $999. Grabbing a gaming laptop for under $1000 is not bad, but for under $650, that’s a no-brainer. This is probably the best early deal I’ve seen in the sales so far. The MSI Thin 15 comes with an Nvidia RTX 4060 laptop graphics card, an older GPU from Nvidia’s previous 40-series generation of graphics processors, which is the bare minimum anyone should consider for a gaming laptop in 2025. The laptop also sports 16GB of DDR4 RAM with support for more. !6GB is again the bare minimum that you would want in a gaming laptop. For your operating system and games library, there is a small 512GB SSD. Inside the MSI Thin’s gaming laptop chassis is an 8GB RTX 4060 mobile GPU, an Intel Core i5-13420H CPU (8-core CPU made up of 4x P-cores, 4x E-cores, and 12 threads), 16GB of DDR4 memory, and a 512GB NVMe SSD for OS and games storage. The storage size is a little on the small side, so you will most likely want to replace this in the near future. 18. Millions of Mastercard users could get up to £70 compensation Millions of Mastercard users could get up to £70 compensation Millions of Mastercard users could get up to £70 each after a court ruled that historic fees charged by the provider to be unfair. The decision comes after a long-running legal case going back a decade, brought forward by a former financial ombudsman. Walter Merricks argued that shoppers were charged higher prices after fees were wrongly levied on transactions made over a 15-year ******* between 1992 and 2008. Mastercard has been approached for comment. Mr Merricks said that, despite retailers paying the fees, shoppers had lost out as retailers passed on these costs in the form of higher prices. The former financial ombudsman launched his claim after the European Commission ruled in 2007 that Mastercard’s “multilateral interchange fees” charged to businesses had infringed competition law since the year 1992. He alleged that 46 million shoppers in Britain were overcharged. The fees were paid by retailers accepting Mastercard payments, rather than by consumers themselves. Computex 2025 Day One Wrap-Up: Beautiful cases galore and ultra-sleek RTX 50 gaming laptops Computex 2025 Day One Wrap-Up: Beautiful cases galore and ultra-sleek RTX 50 gaming laptops Computex 2025 soldier on as we’re now into the trade show’s first “official” day. You can catch our Day Zero coverage here and keep track of our dedicated Computex 2025 hub. Swanky Cases Catch Our Eye Computex is an opportune time for case manufacturers to show off not only their upcoming retail products, but also outlandish concepts and limited edition models. InWin definitely caught our attention with its ChronoMancy, which stands nearly four feet tall. The ChronoMancy almost looks like something you’d find deep below the ocean’s surface (although InWin says that it was designed to look like a trophy). The case opens when you wave your hand in front of it, or you can simply press a button. Given its size, the ChronoMancy can fit E-ATX motherboards and the most powerful Nvidia RTX 50 Series graphics cards. You may like InWin also showcased several other cases, including the WIEW, COVALENT, TACTIX, SHIFT, and DLITE. (Image credit: Future) Hyte was also on hand with its X50 case, available in various colors, including a vibrant red (Hyte calls it Cherry). While most PC cases embrace hard edges and sharp angles all around, the X50 goes “softer” with round corners. The case supports up to ten fans, up to a 360 mm radiator, and will accommodate full-size ATX power supplies. (Image credit: Future) The X50 Air carries the same design language, but features micro-mesh side panels instead of laminated glass. Hyte says the X50 will go on ***** this summer for $149.99, while the X50 Air will be cheaper at $119.99. For those who are into retro design, look at the SilverStone FLP02. It’s designed to look like a tower case from the late 80s/early 90s, complete with the off-white color and faux 5.25-inch floppy drives. Despite its appearance, the FLP02 can accommodate the latest and greatest graphics cards, and the front panel even has hidden USB-C and USB-A ports. SilverStone says that the FLP02 will arrive in stores during the second half of 2025, priced at $220. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. New Gaming Laptops and Handheld Gaming PCs If you’re interested in premium gaming laptops, Razer has you covered with a new Blade 14. According to the company, this is the thinnest Blade 14 it has ever released (15.7 mm at its thinnest point). However, that doesn’t mean that the laptop is underpowered; far from it. It is available with RTX 5070 or RTX 5060 GPUs and a powerful AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor paired with up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory. You’ll also find a sweet 14-inch 2880 x 1800 OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Nvidia G-Sync support. Pricing starts at $2,299.99 if you opt for the RTX 5060 GPU. (Image credit: Razer) MSI was also on hand with four new gaming laptops with 16-inch, 17-inch, and 18-inch displays (all offering a 2560 x 1440 resolution and 240 Hz). Depending on how you option the systems, you can get RTX 5060/5070 GPUs, Ryzen 8000 or Core Ultra 200 HX processors, and up to 96GB of DDR5-6400 memory. (Image credit: MSI) If you want something more portable, the Claw A8 gaming handheld uses a Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor with integrated Ryzen graphics. The device now sports a 120 Hz 1920 x 1200 IPS display and supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000. 20. Hims & Hers Forms Bullish ‘Three Green Soldiers’—Is $100 the Next Target? Hims & Hers Forms Bullish ‘Three Green Soldiers’—Is $100 the Next Target? Hims & Hers Inc (NYSE:) shows strongly bullish signs that begin and end with the stock price action. It reflects volatility, but the bias is upward with rising support and the most recent swing, a bullish rebound, looks very strong within the pattern. It consists of Three White Soldiers or Three Green Soldiers, technically, a bullish pattern formed by three consecutive weeks of buying activity. It is a continuation pattern that suggests the rally will continue and potentially increase by an amount equal to or greater than the pattern itself. In this case, the pattern is equal to the 2025 trading range, roughly $40, sufficient to put this market at a new all-time high and above the $100 mark. The signal is not limited to price action. There is a convergence of convergences, with the monthly, weekly, and daily charts in bullish alignment and indicators like trading volume, MACD and stochastic reflecting an increasingly strong market. The volume is especially telling, steadily increasing since early 2024 when the rally began, with spikes increasing and converging with the price action. Likewise, the MACD momentum indicator peaks also converge with price action, indicating upward momentum is growing and new highs will likely be set. The critical resistance point in mid-May is the current all-time high near $73, a price point likely reached before mid-summer. A Short-Squeeze in HIMS Stocks Is Happening Now The sell-side data suggests that a short squeeze in HIMS stock could lead to a significant market shift and sustained rally. The short interest at the end of April was nearly 28%, up 3% from the previous report and trending near record levels. It has likely fallen in the three weeks since, with institutional activity supporting market action. The institutional activity in 2025 is mixed, with buying and selling elevated relative to previous quarters, reflecting profit taking and group rotation, but is bullish on balance. They own about 70% of the stock, including fund and wealth managers and venture capital, so the tailwind is significant. Analyst activity is a hurdle for this telehealth company. The analysts are generally bullish on the stock, rating it as a Hold with a bullish bias and revising their stock price targets higher over the past year. Still, another catalyst is needed to spur them to continue the trend. The consensus implies a 40% downside, with high-end targets assuming fair value near mid-May trading levels. The Q2 release could be the catalyst for analysts. The company’s Q1 results were better than expected, with hyper revenue growth accelerating to 110% and profitability improving. The company also issued solid guidance for the year, indicating revenue in a range above the consensus target and for profitability improvement to persist. The question is how badly the loss of compounded semaglutide sales will impact revenue and whether the addition of Wegovy will be enough to offset the difference. Either way, the company expects a high and accelerating 70% top-line growth and improved profitability in Q2, with strength building as the year progresses. Hims & Hers Health, Inc. Has a Healthy Balance Sheet Hims & Hers Health uses debt to help fund the growth of its healthcare operations. It recently issued some senior convertible notes, but no red flags were raised. The company’s balance sheet is robust, with total liabilities running at less than 0.5x assets, about 1.25x cash, and about 0.6x equity. It can sustain operations while investing in growth and continuing to build leverage for investors. Equity, a measure of shareholder value, increased by 15% in Q1 and will likely continue growing as the fiscal year progresses. 21. Jennifer Lopez sued for posting paparazzi photos of herself Jennifer Lopez sued for posting paparazzi photos of herself Jennifer Lopez is being sued for posting photos of herself at a Hollywood party, with the photographer and a paparazzi agency saying she failed to get permission to use them. The singer and actress shared pictures on social media of herself arriving at the Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair Party in Los Angeles the night before this year’s Golden Globes in January. Photographer Edwin Blanco and Backgrid, the agency he was working for, have each filed lawsuits saying they own the copyright to two photos. The pictures were used “to promote Ms Lopez’s public appearances, boost user engagement, increase shareability, and lend credibility to her branded content”, they argue. Backgrid and Mr Blanco are seeking up to $150,000 (£112,000) damages each per photo. The pictures showed the star in a white dress and a white faux fur coat outside the party at Chateau Marmont. She posted them on Instagram and X with the caption “GG Weekend Glamour”, and they were then shared by numerous fan and fashion pages. “Ms Lopez’s unauthorised use of the Images is commercial in nature, intended for the purpose of self-promotion,” the lawsuits said. “For example, Ms Lopez used the Images to spotlight the designer of her clothing and jewellery, leveraging the publicity from the event to promote her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships.” Any person who is in a photo doesn’t own the copyright to the picture – that usually belongs to the photographer or the company they work for, and they can decide who can use it and how much they must pay. The legal documents say Backgrid and Mr Blanco contacted Lopez’s representatives after she posted them and agreed a deal and payment, but that she has not yet signed the agreement. BBC News has asked Lopez’s representatives for a response. The star has faced legal action before – in 2019 and again in 2020 – for sharing photos taken of her by others. Celebrities including Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid and Khloe Kardashian, have also been on the receiving end of similar legal complaints. 22. Is CrowdStrike’s 460% Gain Overdone? Why Bulls and Bears Are Now Battling It Out Is CrowdStrike’s 460% Gain Overdone? Why Bulls and Bears Are Now Battling It Out CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) continues to be one of the best-performing technology stocks and cybersecurity stocks. But with that performance, many investors are looking at the company’s valuation. The stock is trading at 871x earnings, which is higher than one of Wall Street’s most controversial stocks, Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:). When you add the fact that we’re about two weeks away from CrowdStrike’s earnings report, investors can expect volatility. That tends to get the attention of traders. In fact, it may explain some of the recent price action with CRWD stock. A pullback may be in order with CrowdStrike stock up over 460% in the last five years. Stocks don’t move in one direction, and it wouldn’t be surprising if CRWD stock is in need of a breather. CRWD Stock Shows Active Trader Interest Long-term investors are told not to pay too much attention to traders’ actions. That’s true to a point. In other words, if the story underlying CrowdStrike stock hasn’t changed, it’s best to sit tight through periods of volatility. However, if you know what’s normal for a stock, you’ll know what’s abnormal. In the case of CRWD stock, knowing what traders are looking at may help you understand what to expect before the company reports earnings in early June, and help you maintain your conviction without losing sleep. Short Interest Is Up Sharply in the Last Month One metric investors can use to determine if a stock is likely to drop is its short interest. CrowdStrike’s short interest isn’t as high as the overall amount of its float, but it’s up about 13% in the last 30 days. That means investors expect the stock to move lower. Of course, short interest can also be a bullish signal. In the last month, CRWD stock has been up 18%, and some of that gain can be explained by short sellers having to cover their short positions. Options Traders Are Hedging Their Bets Investors can use the options chain metric to gauge trader sentiment. In the case of CrowdStrike, the options chain for May 30, the last trading day before the company’s earnings report, shows a mixed picture of bulls and bears. As of this writing, there was significant put volume with strike prices of $415 and $400. The $400 stock price would be about a 10% decrease from the current price. However, there was also strong call volume at stock prices of $460 and even $500. It’s not necessarily unusual to see heavy call and put volume for a stock heading into earnings. But when you see a range of stock prices like this, you know that traders are conflicted and may be hedging their bets on what’s likely to happen with CRWD stock. The One Thing for Investors to Remember Cybersecurity will continue to be a priority for businesses of all sizes in the age of artificial intelligence. CrowdStrike’s platform gives these companies an à la carte menu of services to handle their cybersecurity needs. As previously mentioned, after CrowdStrike’s well-publicized outage last year, the company offered several affected customers a goodwill offering of one or more services on the Falcon platform. Those contracts will roll off in 2025, and the bull case says it will be accretive to CrowdStrike’s top line in the year’s second half. All of which reminds investors that a company is separate from its stock. CrowdStrike is a leader in the cybersecurity space. That isn’t going to change because its stock price drops. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. A pullback from its all-time high should excite buy-and-hold investors who can open or add to a position in CRWD stock with the chance for significantly more upside. 23. 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ review 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ review When the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro launched back in August 2023, it came across as pretty decent value for money in a highly competitive part of the market. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert Now? It’s unbelievable what you’re getting for your money. That’s down to the fact the brand has slashed thousands of bucks off the asking price, with the start point now below $30k drive-away. That’s unprecedented in the mid-size SUV segment, and it positions the Tiggo 7 Pro SE as Australia’s most affordable family SUV. This one isn’t the $30k car – but it’s still incredibly affordable for this SE+ version, which has a number of extra features for an extra few grand. Read on and you’ll see whether there’s more to it than just a low price and lots of spec in this review. How much does the Chery Tiggo 7 cost? The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro was already decent value for money, but the recent reductions to its price have helped it appear in a totally different light in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert With a new entry-level Pro SE offering a heap of tech and spec for less than 30 grand, and this SE+ adding some of the niceties you’d like for a price you’ll still love, there’s a lot to like when it comes to the ‘cost versus kit’ metric. To see how the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro lines up against the competition, check out our comparison tool What is the Chery Tiggo 7 like on the inside? There’s a degree of ‘rinse and repeat’ for the interiors of Chery’s Tiggo lineup, but thankfully that hasn’t led to things feeling tired or worse-for-wear. In fact, for those trading in a pre-loved SUV from the 2000s, it’ll feel like a big step forward in a lot of ways. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert With a mix of materials and different finishes inside, it has a perceived level of quality to it that goes beyond the price point. There are soft padded bits where they should be, comfortable seats, a leather-lined steering wheel and gearshifter, and if you spend the extra cash to get into the SE+ you also score a huge glass sunroof and heated front seats, but strangely there’s no auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The amenities are covered, with a wireless phone charger, a couple of USB ports, and decent storage including a pair of big cupholders, big bottle holders in the doors, a decent glovebox, and a large, cooled centre console bin. There’s even a little bag hook near the glovebox. Of course it has the twin 12.3-inch screen display setup that has become commonplace for some brands, and while they’re bright and colourful, some newer models have better usability (including the related Jaecoo J7). Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert The media screen is the central control system for most things, though thankfully there is a bar below with fan and temperature adjustability, which is better than having to do it all through the touch panel. It’s just a bit hard to see the controls, particularly in direct light. You also have to go through the screen for a lot of stuff relating to the controls for the advanced safety tech, including turning off the lane keeping system and driver monitoring camera, if they don’t behave how you’d like them to. More on that later, but what is most annoying about the safety controls is that you have shortcuts (swipe from the right edge towards the left) for some elements, but not all (including the driver distraction monitor, which would be great to be able to quickly turn off). I connected with wireless Apple CarPlay during my time with this car and had no major issues or faults, and the driver info screen is pretty decent too, with some key metrics like fuel use and speedo on show. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert The steering wheel has a decent array of buttons and controls, though they can be prone to fingerprints, and there’s a stalk on the side for your indicators – the right side! There’s also a volume dial and a couple of buttons down near the shifter – and that gear selector takes a little bit of learning, because it’s not a traditional T-bar auto. It’s an e-shifter, so you just need to pull the selector down for drive or push it up for reverse, rather than push the button in on the side (that is the manual mode button). I hated it the first time I drove the Tiggo 7, and I still didn’t like it this time. Second-row space in the Tiggo 7 Pro is excellent – far more spacious and family-friendly than in plenty of other medium sized SUVs. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert At 182cm or 6’0” tall and with the driver’s seat set for me, I had inches of knee room, heaps of toe room and loads of head room, with a decent view out the window too, which will keep little ones happy. My almost-four-year-old daughter commented that she could see a lot more cars from the back than usual. It has ISOFIX child seat anchor points in the window seats and three top-tethers, and the doors open pretty wide for loading in the little ones, too. There are decent door pockets, map pockets on the seatbacks, directional air vents with a small storage space below (and USB-A port) and a drop-down armrest with cupholders. Seat comfort is good, and the floor is flattish, so you can fit three adults across if you needed to. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert The boot is another plus for this car, with a decent 356-litre capacity to the top of the seatbacks, which is enough to fit a family-of-three’s worth of weekend luggage with a bit of room to spare. There are two flip-down shopping bag hooks and a bright LED light, plus a 12V outlet. Best of all, there’s a full-size spare wheel under the boot floor. To see how the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro lines up against the competition, check out our comparison tool What’s under the bonnet? The Tiggo 7 Pro lineup is simpler now, with the brand having dropped the all-wheel drive model to make space for the more rugged Jaecoo J7 lineup. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert As with that model though, the Tiggo 7 Pro has a punchy petrol engine – but this SUV is now exclusively available in front-wheel drive form. It is worth pointing out that while those outputs are competitive for the class, there are some considerations you need to keep in mind about this SUV. Firstly, the weight capacity. It has a maximum gross vehicle weight of just 1895kg, meaning a payload of only 416kg. That’s lower than most in the segment, and means you’ll need to be careful about overloading it. And it doesn’t have any towing capacity or capability, either. That’s unusual for a mid-size SUV, many of which are capable of hauling up to 750kg unbraked and 2000kg braked. Hmmm. The official combined fuel use number is 7.0L/100km and on my test – which included urban, highway, freeway, commuting and the same stuff you might do in a Tiggo 7 – I saw 7.8L/100km. To see how the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro lines up against the competition, check out our comparison tool How does the Chery Tiggo 7 drive? If you’re expecting a Volkswagen Tiguan- or Toyota RAV4-like drive experience, don’t. It’s not quite that good in terms of overall well-roundedness. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert It isn’t as quick to react, nor as natural feeling as those rivals in terms of the drive experience. It’s not a disaster, but it’s certainly not going to scratch the enthusiast itch. It is fine in a lot of ways, though – ride comfort is pretty good, and it exhibits reasonably good body control over lumps and bumps too. The steering is reasonably good, with a decent action and responsiveness to it, but the tyres – Atlas A51 rubber in 225/55/18 spec – just don’t quite cut it, meaning that you can feel like you’re not as connected to the steering response as you should be. The powertrain is okay in some instances, but in others it can feel a little clumsy. That’s partly down to the dual-clutch auto gearbox feeling hesitant at lower speeds, with some engine lag also exacerbating a delayed response, and the front tyres can squeal when you’re taking away from a standstill, with even more drama when it’s wet outside. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert If you’re impatient (like me) you might find it to be frustrating, and there’s also a level of remoteness when it comes to the pedal action… the brake isn’t as trusty as some other vehicles, and there’s a doughy nature to the throttle too. But the safety systems might be the deal-breaker here, because – like many other new vehicles – you need to turn them off every time you restart the car, if you don’t like the way they behave. For me, the driver monitoring camera system still gets it wrong more than it gets it right, with incessant chiming to alert the driver to their state of distraction… which, in turn, is just another distraction. I was looking straight at the road ahead of me and on multiple occasions the system said I was distracted. Yes, clearly distracted by the job of actually driving! There is also the emergency lane-keeping tech which isn’t as good as in some rivals, with a pushy action that needs to be switched off each time you get back in, if you don’t like it. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert At least the surround-view camera – standard in the SE+ – is a great bit of safety kit, offering a terrific view and a selection of camera options for you to see around the car. So there’s room for improvement, but for those who just want a brand-new car with a host of tech, it might still be a goer. The price is a big plus, and it has a heap of standard gear that other better-known brands charge $20k extra for. Camera Icon2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ Credit: CarExpert Of course there is some compromise that comes with that, and it’s not the most enjoyable thing to drive. But for those who need an everyday conveyance, and are maybe trading in a 10- or 15-year-old SUV, it’s going to feel like the deal of a lifetime. Interested in buying a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro? 24. Nvidia-Backed CoreWeave Jumps 28%: Is It The Next Great AI Buy? Nvidia-Backed CoreWeave Jumps 28%: Is It The Next Great AI Buy? Adding around $10 billion in market capitalization in less than a week amounts to a not-too-shabby few days at the office for the recently public company CoreWeave Inc (NASDAQ:). From May 14 to May 19, the stock gained over 28%. CoreWeave reported its first earnings as a public company on May 14, with analysts at JPMorgan calling the results “impressive.” Yet, shares fell by over 2% the next day. However, further news from CoreWeave and its Magnificent Seven backer, NVIDIA (NASDAQ:), really allowed shares to explode to the upside. So, what’s driving the big rise in shares in such a short *******? What do CoreWeave’s results reveal about the strength of its business, and ultimately, does this stock truly represent an attractive opportunity going forward? CoreWeave Reveals Massive Demand, But Also Massive Spending Despite beating significantly on revenue growth expectations, the price action after CoreWeave’s first earnings report wasn’t all that inspiring. CoreWeave reported astounding sales growth of 420% from the previous year’s quarter. This was much higher than the 354% growth anticipated. However, the company’s net loss increased from $129 million in Q1 2024 to $315 million, contributing to the slight drop in shares. Analysts expected the loss to fall significantly. The company attributed this to multiple one-time or temporary events. The biggest reason for the drop in shares was the company’s capital expenditure forecast for 2025, which came in at a midpoint value of $21.5 billion. This is over four times the $5 billion midpoint revenue the company predicts for 2025. The company boosted its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) sixfold to $606 million. Its adjusted EBITDA margin also increased by around 600 basis points to 62%. This indicates that the company is making strong gains in operating profitability. This is crucial for businesses that aren’t yet fully profitable. Overall, the reaction to these results was highly underwhelming. However, reactions to further news in the days that followed were anything but. NVIDIA Disclosure and Expanded Partnership Rockets Shares Up Two key pieces of news came out on May 15, allowing shares to rise 22% on May 16. First, NVIDIA released its 13F filing. This revealed that as of March 31, NVIDIA held over 24.2 million CoreWeave shares. Overall, CoreWeave represented a massive 78% of NVIDIA’s total long public stock portfolio at that time. NVIDIA’s 13G filing revealed that it owned 7% of CoreWeave’s Class A shares as of March 31. This was likely a huge reason for the stock’s rise, especially because NVIDIA’s stake in CoreWeave was previously 17.9 million shares. That means the company added nearly 6.3 million shares. However, it is important to note that this information was already known. In late March, NVIDIA agreed to purchase $250 million worth of additional CoreWeave shares at $40 per share. Dividing these numbers gives one that 6.3 million share figure. Thus, this information only solidifies what was already known. So, it’s hard to say it warrants a 22% rise in the share price. However, there was further news released that contributed to CoreWeave’s big gain. The company released its 10-Q filing on May 15 after trading hours. It shared details about a $4 billion expansion deal, which it alluded to on the earnings call. However, the customer’s name wasn’t mentioned on the call. The 10-Q revealed that the customer was OpenAI. The headline of this expanded deal with one of the leaders in AI likely excited investors, contributing to the stock’s 22% one-day gain. Analyst Price Targets Indicate a Possible CoreWeave ****** Wall Street analyst price target updates tracked by MarketBeat after earnings paint a strange and intriguing picture. These targets range from $36 to $76, showing that the opinions on the future of this stock range widely. Additionally, although many of these analysts raised their targets substantially, all of them sit below CoreWeave’s nearly $87 closing price on May 19. In fact, the average of these new targets is less than $61, implying a 30% downside in CoreWeave shares. Overall, even though CoreWeave is experiencing massive demand for its products, it’s hard to argue that overzealous investors aren’t getting ahead of themselves when it comes to this stock. Being associated with NVIDIA should not make this come as a surprise. That’s not to say those same investors can’t push the stock to new heights, but it seems they may be playing with fire. 25. Inside Hunter Biden’s confrontation with Joe after watching dad flail during Ireland trip Inside Hunter Biden’s confrontation with Joe after watching dad flail during Ireland trip Hunter Biden pressed his father, then-President Joe Biden, to rest during a trip to Ireland in April 2023. As the president was welcomed to his ancestral homeland, he set off on a busy schedule, including a tree-planting ceremony, the ringing of the Peace Bell, and an honor guard presenting arms, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson write in Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again. The room Biden was in at one point during the trip grew empty, with fewer than a dozen people left. Two of them were Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley and then-New York Rep. Brian Higgins. Hunter Biden pushed his father to take a step back. “You promised you wouldn’t do this,” he said, according to the authors. “You promised you’d take a nap. You know you can’t handle all this.” Biden disregarded his son’s concerns and walked to the bar in the back of the room, where a woman handed him a soft drink. He appeared exhausted. It was at that point that Quigley realized why the moment felt familiar. It reminded him of his father in his last few years before his death from Parkinson’s at the age of 92. Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley was reminded of his late father when he watched Biden during a trip to Ireland in April 2023 (AFP via Getty Images) Biden and some Democrats alongside him reject that his deterioration occurred. Earlier this month, Biden appeared on The View, where co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked Biden about the “Democratic sources” who had said that “in your final year, there was a dramatic decline in your cognitive abilities. What is your response to these allegations, and are these sources wrong?” “They are wrong. There’s nothing to sustain that,” he responded. Although it wasn’t yet announced, Quigley questioned during the trip to Ireland how Biden could run for re-election. While Biden got a boost from the crowds in Ireland, when they weren’t present, he grew deflated, the authors write. Quigley believed at that moment that Biden needed to rest for the rest of the day and night. He was physically frail and had lost most of his energy. The authors describe his speech behind the scenes as breathless, soft, and weak. Quigley was frequently reminded of his dad during the trip. Biden got a boost from the crowds during his trip to Ireland – but grew deflated when they weren’t present, a bombshell new book claims. (PA Archive) The Illinois congressman spoke to Higgins about Biden appearing to have symptoms akin to Parkinson’s. However, Higgins viewed the president through a different lens, having lost his own father to Alzheimer’s and believing that he was seeing something similar in Biden’s shuffling. “A diagnosis is nothing more than pattern recognition,” Higgins told Tapper and Thompson. “When people see that stuff, it conjures up a view that there’s something going on neurologically.” He added that Biden’s cognitive decline “was evident to most people that watched him.” Quigley wondered why the White House physician didn’t attempt to diagnose the president. However, he reasoned that Biden’s staff may not have wanted to know. The president’s staff was elated at his 2024 State of the Union performance. Biden was surrounded by Democrats on the floor of the House following the speech. Quigley hadn’t been that close to Biden since the Ireland trip the previous year. When he put his hand on Biden’s back, he could feel his ribs and spine. His voice soft and breathy, Biden’s eyes darted from side to side. Once again, Quigley was reminded of his late father. Biden’s disastrous debate performance a few months later didn’t come as a huge shock to Quigley, the book reports. “We have to be honest with ourselves that it wasn’t just a horrible night,” Quigley told CNN’s Kasie Hunt on July 2. A few days later, he became one of the first Democrats to call for the president to step back from the ticket.
