Mario Kart World was originally intended for Switch 1, Nintendo reveals Mario Kart World was originally intended for Switch 1, Nintendo reveals Mario Kart World was originally in development for the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has revealed. As part of Nintendo‘s latest Ask the Developer interview, Kenta Sato, Mario Kart World‘s programming director, revealed that the next Mario Kart game was originally planned for release on Nintendo Switch before development transitioned to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2020. “When we were developing for the Nintendo Switch system, it was difficult for us to incorporate everything we wanted, so we were always conscious of what we were giving up in return,” he explained. “We discussed things like toning down the visuals, lowering the resolution, and we even considered dropping the frame rate to 30 fps in some cases. It was a tough situation.” Development of Mario Kart World began around the time Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released on Nintendo Switch, Sato said. The decision to move development to the Nintendo Switch 2 was made in 2020, 5 years before the game’s release. “We worked on it while kicking the can down the road in terms of deciding what to give up on, so at some point, we knew it was going to get messy,” explained producer Kosuke Yabuki. “But as we’d decided to release Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — Booster Course Pass, we thought that would give us a bit more time to continue development. That’s when the conversation of moving it to the Nintendo Switch 2 system came up, and this suddenly opened up a bunch of possibilities on what we could do. It was truly a ray of hope.” “Yabuki-san first brought it up around 2020,” added Sato. “Back then, we already had an idea of the next system’s expected specs, but it wasn’t until a bit later that we actually received working development units. Until then, we just had to proceed with development based on provisional estimates.” Mario Kart World will be released on June 5, alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 console. It will be available as a standalone release, and as part of a bundle with the console. “When we were developing for Nintendo Switch, we often worried whether we could find the right balance between planning and performance,” Sato continued. “Of course, the Switch system’s performance is sufficient for developing different kinds of games, but if we had included everything we wanted to in this game’s vast world, then it wouldn’t have run at 60 fps and would have suffered from constant framerate drops. “I think there were a lot of people on the team who were worried about whether we could really manage it. But once we decided to release this game on Switch 2, we expected our worries to evaporate all at once. I remember being overjoyed when I discovered we could express even more than we’d originally set out to.” Source link #Mario #Kart #World #originally #intended #Switch #Nintendo #reveals Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas admits plot to smuggle £600k cannabis Jay Emmanuel-Thomas admits plot to smuggle £600k cannabis Lewis Adams BBC News, Essex Reporting fromChelmsford Crown CourtGetty Images Jay Emmanuel-Thomas appeared via a video link from prison A professional footballer has admitted his involvement in a plot to smuggle drugs with a street value of £600,000 from Thailand into the ***. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, 34, was arrested after 60kg (9.44st) of cannabis was found in suitcases arriving at London Stansted Airport, Essex, on 2 September. He was sacked by Scottish club Greenock Morton after being charged, having previously played for Arsenal, Aberdeen, Ipswich Town and England at youth level. The father-of-two will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court at a later date. NCA The drugs arrived in suitcases from Bangkok via Dubai Emmanuel-Thomas, of Cardwell Road, Gourock, near Glasgow, pleaded guilty to the offence in May. Reporting restrictions on the case were lifted on Wednesday. Prosecutor David Josse KC said it followed a “very thorough investigation” by the National Crime Agency (NCA). Charges against Rosie Rowland, 28, of Southend Road, Chelmsford, and 33-year-old Yasmin Piotrowska, of Purves Road, north-west London, had been dropped by the prosecution, he told the court. They wept as they were allowed to leave the dock, having denied importing cannabis between 1 July and 2 September at earlier hearings. Mr Josse said the investigation into their involvement was discontinued after analysis of Emmanuel-Thomas’s mobile phone. “They thought they were importing gold, not cannabis,” the prosecutor said. Emmanuel-Thomas made one first team appearance for Arsenal, also going on to play for Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers, MK Dons, and Thai-based team PTT Rayong in 2019. He was sacked by Scottish side Greenock Morton FC after being arrested at his home in on 18 September. The NCA previously said the drugs arrived in suitcases from Bangkok via Dubai. With the geolocation-based RPG’s new Tethering feature, you can team up with your pals in synchronous co-op gameplay to explore everything Mytherra has to offer, even when you’re not physically together – because when has distance ever been in the way of true friendship? For instance, Tethering lets you team up with two other players across the globe to explore a single map together. All you have to do is pick a lead friend and explore their environment – if you’re in Japan, for example, your two teammates can tether to you and you can all explore the streets of Tokyo together while battling beasts at the same time. And speaking of beasts, new enemies called Wyldevae will also be popping up – they’re pretty crafty tricksters apparently, so despite their seemingly harmless appearance, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Thankfully, you’ll nab cool rewards after defeating them, so seeking them out seems well worth the effort. You can find Bergavae in Mountain regions, while Strandavae can be spotted on Islands. Fennavae, on the other hand, can be found in Swamps. Qualcomm’s Re-Entry Into the CPU Market May Not Be Enough
Pelican Press posted a topic in World News
Qualcomm’s Re-Entry Into the CPU Market May Not Be Enough Qualcomm’s Re-Entry Into the CPU Market May Not Be Enough Qualcomm’s re-entry into the CPU semiconductor market is noteworthy for several reasons, but may not be enough to move the needle. While it affirms NVIDIA’s decision to open the NVLINK system to other manufacturers with NVLINK Fusion, the CPU market is already dominated by Intel (NASDAQ:) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:), which are unlikely to sit still. NVIDIA’s role is critical; letting 3rd-party manufacturers embed NVLink hardware into their systems allows AI developers to build semi-custom AI infrastructure faster and more efficiently for data processing than previous systems. What percent of market share can Qualcomm (NASDAQ:) gain from the datacenter CPU market? The market is estimated at roughly $14.15 billion in 2025, so moving the needle for its business would take a significant gain. That is possible due to NVIDIA’s industry-leading position with AI GPUs, but the real opportunity is to establish another revenue stream to help diversify the business. Capturing the robust growth projected for the industry and a position in the replacement/upgrade cycle would be a win for Qualcomm. Analysts see the global data center industry growing at a moderately high single-digit CAGR through the middle of the next decade for a net gain of over 110%. As it is, Intel commands about 75% of the market and AMD nearly the remainder, so it will be a tough market to crack. Qualcomm’s NVIDIA-Compatible CPUs a Non-starter for Analysts Qualcomm’s re-entry into the CPU market with NVIDIA-compatible products was a non-starter for analysts. We tracked no revisions or commentary within the first 24 hours of the announcement, the critical ******* for market-moving analyst activity. The takeaway for inventors is that Qualcomm is rated as a weak Hold, sentiment is deteriorating with downgrades in 2025, and the price target is trending lower. The consensus rwe eported in mid-May forecasts a 25% upside, but the revision trend forecasts a move into the low-end range near $150. Analysts’ sentiment is driven by a tepid growth outlook that is unchanged by the news. The analysts forecast about 10% revenue growth in 2025, then a much slower, roughly 2.5% CAGR through the decade’s end. The only truly bullish news is that the capital return and capital return growth outlook remain intact, including the dividend and share repurchases. The dividend annualizes to more than 2.25% with shares trading at the low end of the analysts’ range, and buybacks are substantial. Repurchases in FQ2/CQ1 2025 reduced the count by 1.3% year-over-year and by about 1% on a year-to-date basis. Qualcomm’s balance sheet and value gains are another bonus for investors and long-term holders. The company’s balance sheet is a fortress capable of sustaining the capital return for the foreseeable future. The details at the end of FQ2 included flat assets and debt, reduced total liability, and increased equity. Equity was up nearly 6% with long-term debt less than 0.5x and a solid cash balance, about 0.5x the debt. The company is on track for inclusion in the Dividend Aristocrats Index in 2030, but the CAGR is slowing. The last increases were mid-single-digit amounts, but investors should expect them to slow into the low-single-digit range. The Technical Outlook: Range-Bound QCOM at Inflection Point The price action in QCOM stock moved higher in the first half of May and may continue to advance in Q2. However, the market is range-bound and at a critical inflection point within the range that may cap the move. That is a cluster of moving averages that coincide with a previous support level. If the market can not move higher from this level, it will likely fall back to the range’s low end soon after. Even so, a move higher has limits and may not advance above recent highs near $175. Goldman’s hedge fund stock portfolio is up 6% during this volatile year Goldman’s hedge fund stock portfolio is up 6% during this volatile year A group of hedge funds’ favorite stocks is beating the broader market even as volatility runs wild on Wall Street, according to Goldman Sachs. The Wall Street bank analyzed the holdings of 684 fundamentally driven hedge funds with $3.1 trillion of gross equity positions at the end of March, based on regulatory filings. It then compiled a basket of the most popular long positions, dubbed Goldman’s “Hedge Fund VIP basket,” consisting of 50 stocks that most frequently appear among hedge funds’ 10 largest holdings. “From an implementation standpoint, the Hedge Fund VIP list represents a tool for investors seeking to ‘follow the smart money’ based on 13-F filings,” Goldman said in a note to clients. The VIP basket has outperformed the S & P 500 this year with a gain of 6%, compared to the S & P 500′s mere 1% return. This Goldman portfolio has a long history of beating the market, trouncing the S & P 500 in 59% of the quarters since 2001. The stock market has experienced extreme volatility this year as the macro environment grew uncertain. President Donald Trump’s shocking tariff rollout early April pushed the S & P 500 briefly into bear market territory, and weeks later, the equity benchmark fully made back those losses as some of the heavy duties were paused. Big Tech stocks are still well-loved by hedge funds at the end of the first quarter. Amazon , Meta , Microsoft , Nvidia and Alphabet remained the five most popular stocks by the cohort. The tech sector also represents the largest weight (24%) in the basket. Apple slipped to the No. 9 spot on the list from No. 6 at the end of 2024. The iPhone maker has underperformed the market this year, with shares down more than 17%. As for other names tied to the artificial intelligence theme, Lam Research and Micron Technology joined this quarter’s list of hedge fund VIPs, Goldman said. Gunman kills Mexico City mayor’s top aides Gunman kills Mexico City mayor’s top aides Vanessa Buschschlüter BBC News X/@ClaraBrugadaM A gunman has shot dead two top aides of the mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada. The mayor’s private secretary, Ximena Guzmán, and Brugada’s adviser, José Muñoz, were killed on their way to work on Tuesday morning local time. Witnesses said an armed man first opened fire on Guzmán, who had stopped her car by the side of a busy avenue to pick up her colleague, and then on Muñoz, who was about to get into Guzmán’s car for their morning commute. The gunman is believed to have escaped on a motorbike and have had at least one accomplice. The possible motive for the killing is still unknown but the attack is the latest in a series of murders of local politicians across the country. Mayor Brugada was visibly upset during a news conference when she recalled how she had “shared dreams and struggles” with her two aides over the years they had worked for her. She said she would ensure the murders would not go unpunished. President Claudia Sheinbaum was informed of the shooting during her daily morning news conference by the security minister, Omar García Harfuch, who has himself been a target of an armed ambush in the past. President Sheinbaum described it as “a deplorable incident” and offered Mayor Brugada, who is from the same party as the president, all the support she may need. Police seized a motorbike and another vehicle they think was used in the attack, while forensic experts examined Guzmán’s bullet-pierced car. CCTV footage from a nearby building shows a man carrying a motorcycle helmet in one hand and a gun in another, approach Guzmán’s car from the front. He fires through the windscreen, then shoots Muñoz, before again firing at Guzmán. As he runs away, he turns around and fires another shot at Muñoz, who is collapsing on the pavement. Reuters Guzmán was shot in her ****** Audi as she stopped to pick up Muñoz Brugada, 61, was elected mayor of Mexico City in June of last year. The position is considered the second most powerful in the country after that of the president. While local politicians, especially the mayors of small towns, are often targeted in Mexico, attacks on politicians in the capital are more unusual. One high-profile exception is the ambush in 2020 of García Harfuch, who was Mexico City’s chief of police at the time. More than two dozen gunmen opened fire on his car and killed two of his bodyguards and a passer-by in one of the most brazen attacks to have occurred in the city. García Harfuch was hit three times, but survived and went on to become Mexico’s security minister in October of last year. He said the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal groups, was behind that incident. Investigators have not yet said who they think was behind Tuesday’s ******* of the two aides, but security experts say the deliberate and precise way the gunman operated indicates that he is a professional hitman. Access to the social media site restricted after police account targeted by hackers Access to the social media site restricted after police account targeted by hackers Access to the social media platform X has been restricted in Tanzania after some official accounts of government and private institutions were targeted by hackers. On Tuesday, the official police account was compromised, with ********* explicit material and false information that the president had died being posted. The police dissociated itself from the information and said an investigation was under way to identify those responsible. Hours later data from the internet monitoring organisation Netblocks showed that X was “unreachable on major internet providers” across the country. Users in Dar es Salaam, the country’s biggest city, could still not access the site on Wednesday, unless they use virtual private networks (VPNs), which is ******** without a permit, although some people in other regions indicated they were able to log on. The authorities have not commented on whether they are blocking access to X. But Information Minister Jerry Silaa has acknowledged the hacking and assured MPs in parliament that the affected government social media accounts had since been secured. Earlier, government spokesman Gerson Msigwa warned those responsible that immediate action was being taken. The problems with accessing X come amid the continued uproar over the deportation of prominent Kenyans – a move that prevented them from attending the court case of opposition leader Tundu Lissu, who is accused of treason. On Monday, the president warned activists from its northern neighbour that she would not allow them to “meddle” in her country’s affairs and cause “chaos”. She spoke after Kenya’s former Justice Minister Martha Karua along with some others, who had all travelled to attend Lissu’s court case, were deported. Another Kenyan activist, Boniface Mwangi, and Ugandan Agather Atuhaire were arrested in Dar es Salaam by suspected military officers on Monday and their whereabouts remain unknown. Tanzanian authorities have not commented on their whereabouts. Mwangi’s wife, Njeri, told the BBC’s Newsday programme that she had last heard from him on Monday and had not been able to establish where he was. “I’m actually concerned for his life. I know my husband, he would have communicated, he’d find a way to call or text me and because he hasn’t, makes me very worried about what state he is in,” she said. Boniface Mwabukusi, the president of the Tanganyika Law Society, the body representing lawyers in mainland Tanzania, said on Wednesday that they had learnt that the two were being held by the immigration department. He had earlier said they had been deported. “Our legal team on the ground is actively monitoring the situation and exploring appropriate legal remedies to facilitate a just and timely resolution,” he said on X. Confrontations took place in the centre of Bilbao and in some nearby cities where many of the supporters were staying to avoid overpriced accommodation in the host city. More than 50,000 English fans were expected in the Basque Country city of Bilbao, according to local officials. There were no reports of serious injuries in the confrontations, which happened mostly overnight as fans arrived. Images reproduced by Spanish media showed supporters clashing on the streets of Bilbao, with some throwing tables, trash bins, bottles and other objects at each other. There were also reports of confrontations in San Sebastian and Santander, other Basque Country cities filled with English fans, many without tickets for the final. UEFA this week warned fans about buying unauthorised tickets that were unlikely to get them into the stadium. Xbox Game Hellblade 2 Coming To PS5 Soon Xbox Game Hellblade 2 Coming To PS5 Soon Microsoft has announced the next Xbox game headed to PlayStation, and it’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. The game will come to PS5 at some point this summer. Microsoft said the game will be optimized for PS5 and PS5 Pro, while a free update for all systems (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) will arrive alongside the game’s PS5 debut, adding new features. Developer Ninja Theory didn’t say what these new features are, however. The original Hellblade game launched on PS4 in 2017, and it was exclusive on console to Sony’s system until it came to Xbox in 2018 and then Switch in 2019. Ninja Theory said, “The team are excited to bring Senua back to where her journey began and for PlayStation players to be able to experience the next chapter in her brutal saga of survival.” Microsoft’s releases on PS5 have been successful so far, as four of the top five–and five of the top seven–of the best-selling games for April 2025 on PlayStation in the US were published by Microsoft. Two high-profile releases for April, Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, surged up the US sales charts following their debut on PS5 that month. Forza Horizon 5 jumped from No. 42 best-selling overall in March to No. 2 in April, while The Great Circle jumped from 118th in March to No. 6 in April, according to Circana. Married Kohl’s CEO affair with a Walmart exec was retail’s dirty little secret. When it was exposed, it upended retail Married Kohl’s CEO affair with a Walmart exec was retail’s dirty little secret. When it was exposed, it upended retail Kohl’s CEO Ashley Buchanan’s affair with former Walmart executive Chandra Holt was retail’s dirty little secret – until he was fired for bolstering her business. Buchanan, 51, was fired by Kohl’s earlier this month after an investigation revealed he had brokered a deal for the department store to sell products from 45-year-old Holt’s coffee startup, Incredibrew, an explosive report in The Wall Street Journal detailed. The terms of the deal, which were “unusual” and favorable to Incredibrew, raised red flags for some employees. Buchanan was ultimately fired for breaking the retailer’s ethics code by failing to disclose his relationship with Holt. While there was gossip among employees about a potential romance between Buchanan and Holt dating back years, Kohl’s Chairman Michael Bender, who had worked with the pair at Walmart a decade ago, was left out of the loop. During a meeting, Bender demanded to know if he was dating Holt, to which Buchanan replied “yes,” according to the report. The relationship, an open secret for years as the pair worked at Walmart and later craft store Michaels, culminated in the pair each filing for divorce from their respective spouses in 2020. Former Kohl’s CEO Ashley Buchanan’s affair with former Walmart executive Chandra Holt has been exposed. He recently was removed from his position because of the relationship. (Sebron Snyder/Wiki Commons) Holt marketed her coffee products to Kohl’s and Michaels, where Buchanan was CEO. (Chandra Holt/LinkedIn) Soon after, they moved into a $3 million stone house at the Vaquero Club, a wealthy Dallas suburb teeming with mansions, where they would be seen playing tennis together. Court records also showed that an extramarital affair between Holt and Buchanan had a role in her divorce, according to the report. Two bosses of major retailers Both Buchanan and Holt had been in charge of major retailers over the years, with her leading Bed Bath & Beyond and another smaller Texas company. She had also started Incredibrew and was marketing it to both Kohl’s and Michaels while Buchanan was running them. The pair mostly kept quiet about their relationship, according to people who worked with them and court documents. When Michaels tried to recruit Holt for a senior role soon after Buchanan became CEO in 2020, he didn’t disclose their relationship, one person familiar with the matter told the WSJ. Holt declined to take the job. Buchanan also failed to disclose his relationship with Holt to some merchants, who decide what products the store sells customers, when Michaels decided to add Incredibrew to its stores, according to the report. When he was fired by Kohl’s, Buchanan claimed he just made introductions for merchants but never required them to buy any specific products, one person who spoke with him said. Buchanan was fired for breaking Kohl’s ethics code, according to the report. (Getty Images) Legal repercussions Kohl’s announced Buchanan’s firing on May 1, saying an investigation by outside lawyers found he had violated the company’s ethics code and helped arrange a deal to sell Holt’s coffee products. Buchanan had dictated the payment terms and the order was for hundreds of Kohl’s stores, according to the report. Kohl’s also noted the deal’s terms were “unusual” and favorable to the vendor, according to the report. The investigation also uncovered that Buchanan had caused Kohl’s to enter a multimillion-dollar consulting agreement with Boston Consulting Group, where Holt served as an advisor at the time. When interviewed for the investigation, Holt said she’d known Buchanan for 10 years and they weren’t romantically involved when Michaels was trying to hire her. She also said her new business, Incredibrew, hadn’t been compensated by Kohl’s. Boston Consulting Group later terminated Holt’s contract as a result of the non-disclosure. Walmart beginnings Buchanan and Holt met in 2015 when she took a job as a vice president with Sam’s Club, the warehouse chain owned by Walmart. At the time, Buchanan was running Walmart’s dry grocery business. When Holt later went on to work for Walmart, she, her then-husband and their daughter moved into a home in the Pinnacle Country Club, a gated golf community hear headquarters, where Buchanan also lived with his wife and three daughters. The pair met while working at Walmart a decade ago. (AP) In 2017, Buchanan was named chief merchant for Sam’s Club, making him Holt’s boss. A few months later, she was also promoted to lead Sam’s Club grocery business. A year later, she left his group when she was appointed chief operating officer of the chain’s website. Rumors spread about romance While Buchanan and Holt worked in Northwest Arkansas, where Walmart is headquartered, word quickly spread about their close relationship. Buchanan, Holt and their children would spend time together without their spouses, according to the report. At the same time, Buchanan would discuss his marriage troubles with friends and coworkers, former and current Walmart executives said. Buchanan, whose wife had a serious illness that largely kept her home, would also express concern to colleagues about his wife and how her illness might impact their children. Despite the troubles, Buchanan continued to grow in his career, with him even being considered as a contender to become Sam’s Club CEO. The role, however, didn’t go to him, and he was instead promoted to another executive position at Walmart. Both Buchanan and Holt also worked for Sam’s Club, a warehouse chain owned by Walmart. (Getty Images) Buchanan left Walmart around Christmas in 2019 to become CEO of Michaels, a craft store based in Dallas. However, after moving his family to Southlake, Texas, Buchanan filed for divorce from his wife. Space Marine 2 Needs a ‘Holy Terra’ Update Like Helldivers 2’s Heart of Democracy Space Marine 2 Needs a ‘Holy Terra’ Update Like Helldivers 2’s Heart of Democracy Helldivers 2 has reinvented itself with the new Heart of Democracy update, and nothing brings back players like a good, old-fashioned update. But the reason why players are returning is that the enemies are invading the home planet of the Helldivers. So if that’s what it takes to bring back players, then why should it not work for Space Marine 2? Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has continued to have a steady player base since its release, but it has far more modest player engagement. The difference isn’t enough to panic or anything, but just imagine if it got an update like Helldivers 2. What if we had to defend Terra from a Tyranid invasion, or from the forces of Chaos? Space Marine 2 needs to copy the newest Helldivers 2 update Helldivers 2’s Heart of Democracy update worked not just because it introduced new enemies or gameplay mechanics—it worked because it raised the stakes. The very idea that Super Earth was under attack created urgency and unity among players. Suddenly, our objective isn’t to go spread democracy on alien planets anymore. Today, we need to defend our home. The Illuminate have reached the Heart of Democracy. Our Mega Cities are under siege. Liberty now hangs in the balance. The Ministry of Defence has authorised arsenal upgrades and placed SEAF soldiers on active duty. Today, we fight for the future of Super Earth! pic.twitter.com/GxkrAQCmKD — HELLDIVERS 2 (@helldivers2) May 20, 2025 Now imagine if Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 gets this kind of update. An update that places players on the sacred grounds of Holy Terra to defend the Emperor’s home itself would go incredibly hard. There’s no doubt that an update like that would bring in the same kind of flood of returning players. Space Marine 2 has steadily become a pretty solid live service title. Saber Interactive has been updating the game and adding new content since the game came out. We’ve gotten features like Prestige Ranks, new operations, and improved matchmaking, among so much more. The recent Trygon update was even complete with a new Tyranid boss. Space Marine 2 is fantastic. A brilliant co-op experience and the best Warhammer game I have ever played! The combat and visuals are spectacular, while the world, story, and attention to detail have also made my 40k nerd heart sing It has quickly shot up my GOTY list. pic.twitter.com/Mli13NNnpD — Dave Jewitt (@IrregularDave) September 4, 2024 But despite all this, Space Marine 2 has only maintained a daily player count ranging from 5000 to 10000 in the last few weeks. The update in April pushed it to around 20,000, but that was about it. In comparison, the new Helldivers 2’s new update made so many players return that the game has reached a peak of more than 160,000 players. It wouldn’t quite fit lore-wise, but games have the freedom to explore The concept is pretty cool, you have to admit. | Image Credit: Saber Interactive You might argue that Warhammer 40K lore doesn’t allow for a direct assault on Holy Terra—or at least not in the current timeline. But games are meant to explore “what ifs“, and a hypothetical mission to defend Terra could be presented as a vision, a dream, or even a Chaos-fueled delusion. There are a lot of possibilities here, and while the game doesn’t need to explore any of them, they are cool to think about. Space Marine 2 is in a good place, but it could be in a great one. Just as Helldivers 2 reminded its players what was worth fighting for, Space Marine 2 should dare to do the same. Saber Interactive has handled the transition into a live service model with surprising grace. The game’s monetization has been pretty fair, and updates are frequent. And unlike other live service games that outstay their welcome, Space Marine 2 already knows where it’s going because Saber has confirmed that Space Marine 3 is in development. Walyalup (Fremantle) Dockers find ‘better balance’ in back six mix ahead of Yartapuulti (Port Adelaide) clash Walyalup (Fremantle) Dockers find ‘better balance’ in back six mix ahead of Yartapuulti (Port Adelaide) clash Walyalup (Fremantle) coach Justin Longmuir believes his side has struck a “better balance” in defence, as they prepare to face one of the most dangerous small forwards in the competition. The inclusion of Cooper Simpson has created a more dynamic mix in the back six for the Dockers, evident in the club’s win over Greater Western Sydney last week. Longmuir said the four-gamer would retain his spot against Yartapuulti (Port Adelaide) at Optus Stadium on Saturday night. “I think it’s a better balance (in defence),” Longmuir said. “We tried something earlier in the year with a bit more height, but we’ve still got that flexibility. “(Luke) Ryan can play taller, Chappy (Heath Chapman) can play taller. So I still feel like we’ve got the height bit covered. “And Coops has come in and played his role really well defensively against the smalls, but provides a little bit of bit more offence for us and a little bit more run offensively. He’s added to the mix, and we feel least this week that’s going to be the way we go.” Chapman did not train on Wednesday due to illness but is expected to play. Camera IconWillie Rioli of the Power kicks from the boundary. Credit: Mark Brake/Getty Images Power star ******* Rioli will return to Perth for his milestone 100th game, having started his career with Waalitj Marawar (West Coast). “He’s dangerous. One thing about *******, he can have maximum impact with limited possessions,” Longmuir said. “He’s part of their pressuring forwards as well, which is really up and about when they win. “(We will look to) get the right match up and stop the supply, and all the usual things you try and do with the good small forwards..” Longmuir said the Dockers would consider tagging one of the Power’s game-makers, but conceded “there’s probably four or five” players that could demand a run-with role. While midfielder Zak Butters and the injured Jason Horne-Francis (hamstring) usually get the most attention from the opposition, Longmuir teased captain Connor Rozee could be another target. Defender Corey Wagner has taken on the role as tagger this season, with Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos among his scalps. “Whether we go to a mid or half back, we haven’t really worked through yet,” Longmuir said. “But yeah, we feel like they worked for us. It doesn’t work every week. It hasn’t worked every week for us, but it’s an option for us. “So we’ll talk about that at strategy and selection later.” Source link #Walyalup #Fremantle #Dockers #find #balance #mix #ahead #Yartapuulti #Port #Adelaide #clash Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Trump, Noem, and Gabbard try to ‘86’ the real and harmless meaning of ’86’ Trump, Noem, and Gabbard try to ‘86’ the real and harmless meaning of ’86’ Back in high school in Pittsburgh, I worked at Eat’n Park, a local diner chain where I picked up a few quirky phrases with numbers that have stuck with me after all these years. At 7:14 p.m., the kitchen crew would say “Happy 714” to each other. I learned that it was a sly reference to **********. When a waitress whispered “Table 12,” it meant my crazy step-aunt had arrived sitting at her favorite table, 12, and I should stay hidden in the kitchen to avoid her. But the most enduring term was “86,” as in “Turkey’s 86’d” or “Dinner special 86’d, or worse “Strawberry pie’s 86’d,” signaling we were out of a particular item. When we ran out of our famous strawberry pie, customers became quite agitated. I thought it was unique to our restaurant until I moved to New York City for acting school and heard the same expression in an Italian restaurant where I worked briefly. I was stunned to hear the same term thrown around like gospel: “86 the veal parm,” someone would shout, and that was that. It was restaurant lingo, passed down like an oral tradition. So imagine my surprise when the term 86 suddenly made national headlines recently. 86, which innocently meant no more strawberry pie, had been twisted into a paranoid fever dream by Trump World. And somehow, former FBI Director James Comey was at the center of this clown-show ridiculousness which happens to be quite scary. Comey, now a private citizen, posted an Instagram photo of seashells arranged to read “86 47.” Seemed harmless enough. He wasn’t the first to post those numbers. It’s been going around recently, a subtle dig at the 47th president being 86’d. Was it tasteless? Maybe, but not to me, since I know what 86 means. But threatening? Only if you believe that numbers have magical properties. Truth is, the term 86 dates back to 1930s diner slang, when it was used as staff shorthand, according to language expert Jesse Sheidlower of Columbia University, a former Oxford English Dictionary editor at large. Just as it did at Eat ‘N Park, 86 meant that something was not longer available. Donald Trump went on Brett Baier’s wild-eyed Fox News show late last week and threw a hissy fit. Comey “knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant, that meant assassination,” Trump said. Assassination? Something akin to strawberry pie and veal parm? Give me a break! But Trump and his overzealous and wild conspiracy theorist henchpersons thought otherwise. Kristi Noem, the scandal-plagued Homeland Security secretary, said Comey’s post was a call for Trump’s assassination. Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s director of national intelligence, declared that Comey should be thrown in jail. And Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino went on Fox News and ranted that Comey had “once again brought shame to the FBI” and that “we’re still cleaning up his mess.” Wait. Still cleaning up his mess? Comey left the FBI in 2017. That’s eight years ago. How exactly does a long-departed bureau chief still have his fingerprints on current operations? I think I have a better idea who’s creating the mess. It’s Bongino and the agency’s director, Kash Patel. You would think that if there were any messes left by Comey, they’d be “86’d” by now. But let’s not pretend this outrage is about shells or numbers or even Comey. This is part of a years-long vendetta. Trump has been targeting Comey ever since the former FBI director refused to pledge loyalty and refused to shut down the Russia investigation. Trump fired him in May 2017, then bragged about it to Russian officials. That action, which may have constituted obstruction of justice, helped launch the Mueller investigation. It didn’t stop there. Trump’s Justice Department repeatedly targeted Comey for prosecution, even opening leak investigations into him that led nowhere. Trump raged that Comey should be prosecuted, called him a “**********,” and fantasized about his imprisonment in tweets and rallies alike. He even pressured the DOJ to investigate Comey over the Steele dossier and Hillary Clinton’s emails, always hunting for a way to delegitimize him. This recent “86 47” pearl-clutching is just the latest attempt to criminalize Comey’s speech. The idea that an Instagram post with two numbers equals a violent threat is laughable on its face; however, it’s not funny. Rather, it’s dangerous when it leads to the Secret Service interviewing a citizen for what amounts to a snarky post. Do we really want to live in a country where cryptic jokes or political jabs can get you interrogated by federal agents? Fortunately, Comey took it all in stride. What happens when it’s not Comey but a teacher? A reporter? A teenager with a Twitter handle and a bad attitude? We’re in dangerous territory when speech is treated as sedition and restaurant slang is redefined by the ruling regime. The overreaction isn’t just absurd, and it’s alarmingly authoritarian. Let’s remember what “86” really means. It doesn’t mean kill. It doesn’t mean *******. It means we’re out. That’s it. But Trump, Noem, Gabbard, and Bongino want us to believe that a photo of seashells is a call to arms. And they want to terrify anyone else thinking of criticizing the regime. They want to 86 dissent. To 86 satire. To 86 the First Amendment. Comey deleted the post and clarified that he “opposes violence in any form.” But the mob didn’t care. Their outrage wasn’t about safety. It was about dominance. About making an example. And that’s what should scare us. Because if they can do it to Comey, they can do it to you. So the next time you see someone try to twist everyday language into a federal crime, remember, they’re not confused. They’re calculating. They want the meaning of 86 to change, from “we’re out of strawberry pie” to “you’d better watch your mouth.” Voices is dedicated to featuring a wide range of inspiring personal stories and impactful opinions from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. *** Fraud Bill targets benefit claimants for mass surveillance *** Fraud Bill targets benefit claimants for mass surveillance Earlier this month the House of Lords had its first debate on the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill. The Bill aims to reduce government losses to benefit fraud and error, and would give the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) unprecedented powers of investigation to routinely and covertly check benefit claimants’ bank accounts, the right to enter private homes, and to seize drivers’ licenses or money from bank accounts. Expert organisations including Justice, the Public Law Project and Big Brother Watch warn that although the aim of the Bill is hugely important, the proposed powers are disproportionate and represent a breach of human rights. As Baroness Finn remarked in the Lords, “support for the goal must not mean silence about the means.” The Bill promises an expanded regime of digital surveillance for people in receipt of Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, and State Pension Credit. This includes the introduction of an ‘Eligibility Verification Measure’ (EVM) which would enable DWP to direct banks to check millions of bank accounts for as yet unspecified indicators of benefit fraud and error. DWP already has similar powers but crucially can only use them where it has ‘reasonable grounds’ to suspect fraud is taking place, which is the standard threshold for many comparable state powers. This Bill would completely remove that threshold, and enable intrusive surveillance without any justification. Details on exactly how the EVM will be used are sparse, but it could theoretically result in every single claimant’s bank account being checked, with no suspicion or indication of any fraud, error or over-payment needed. Accounts flagged through these checks would then be passed to a member of DWP staff for further investigation, but what this will involve is still unclear. A code of practice to accompany the Bill is still unpublished, so we don’t actually know what sequence of events would play out. Will individuals be informed when they are being investigated? Will their benefits be suspended during an investigation? Will their claim be assessed by other fraud algorithms? In some circumstances, the Department could automatically take money from the bank accounts of people no longer on benefits if they are deemed to have committed fraud or been accidentally overpaid. Banks will be prevented from informing their customers that this recovery process is happening, so the first that a customer might know is when money disappears from their account. The finance industry has expressed concern about tensions between the obligations the Bill would create and financial institutions’ consumer obligations, the risks of financial harm to vulnerable customers, and the lack of robust safeguards for the transfer of banking data. Others are concerned about the potential for miscarriages of justice which many will be unable to effectively challenge: the benefits covered by the Bill are only available to people on a low income, who are unlikely to have the means to engage in legal action. These powers would apply to both fraud and error, including over-payments caused by the Department’s own mistakes. Overpayments can be caused by myriad mistakes on the part of DWP or claimant, or both, and the complexity of making claims is well known. But under the Bill, fraud and error will be treated the same, with the same digital surveillance deployed and the same powers to seize money and other assets. Universal Credit already appears to be particularly prone to mistakes and over-payments. Rather than punishing people after the fact, it would be better for DWP to work out why it is particularly vulnerable, do more to help people avoid mistakes, and reduce the rate at which their own mistakes cause over-payments. Treating all claimants like intentional fraudsters stigmatises people on benefits, and risks people who need financial support disengaging from the benefit system. Rather than focus on professional criminals who are actively defrauding the Department, the bill scoops everyone up and places them all under suspicion. It creates a two-tier system in which benefit claimants would be subject to an invasion of privacy not applied to the rest of the population: millions of people who have done nothing wrong will be laid open to mass surveillance. DWP officers would be given police-like powers of entry to private premises and seizure of private property. This is an extraordinary expansion of very serious powers targeted at one section of society. It fundamentally undermines basic rights to privacy and to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise. Whether the ends justify these heavy-handed means is doubtful. The Department’s own impact assessment estimates that just 2% of social security fraud and error over-payments will be clawed back through the use of these powers over 10 years: a disproportionate invasion of privacy for little benefit. The finance industry also warns that the organised gangs who carry out large-scale benefit fraud using sophisticated methods to avoid detection will easily find ways to work around the new powers. Also on its way through the legislative process is the Data Use and Access Bill, which proposes to reduce the requirement for human oversight of automated decisions within government. If both Bills pass into law as currently drafted, there is a potential future in which the human-in-the-loop safeguards relating to digital bank surveillance are no longer legally required. This leaves the door open to hugely consequential decisions being made entirely by automated systems. We know that existing DWP fraud algorithms generate bias; the introduction of more automation and digital surveillance and the potential for less human oversight should trouble us all. Increasing the number of people that are flagged for investigation via these new powers could put thousands more through the difficult process of fraud investigation. DWP’s own figures show that three-quarters of people whose benefit claims are flagged as suspicious actually have no fraud or error related to their claim at all. Ten million people receive the benefits that will be covered by the new powers: if even 1% of claimants are wrongly investigated many thousands of people will be affected. As well as the immediate impact of these disproportionate powers, politicians need to be aware of the precedents they are setting, and how the legislation could be used by other administrations in future. Eliminating the need for the government to justify wholesale digital surveillance removes a basic protection against state over-reach. Only the state pension is explicitly excluded from the powers in the Bill: a government with an even more single-minded obsession with efficiency and fraud could roll out the bank surveillance to many, many other people. What will affect a ********* now could become the norm for the majority. The Last Of Us Season 3 Is All About Abby The Last Of Us Season 3 Is All About Abby The Last of Us Season 2 is coming to a close with the season finale this Sunday, May 25, but the show is already renewed for a third season and the team wants a fourth. Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby, appeared at the beginning of Season 2 but hasn’t been a focus after certain dramatic events unfolded. Anyone who wants more Abby will get more Abby in Season 3. Catherine O’Hara, who plays Gail on The Last of Us, told Variety that Season 3 is “the Abby story,” so fans can expect to see more of her in the next run of episodes. That makes sense, of course, given that the show adapts the events of The Last of Us: Part II, chronicling Ellie’s mission to hunt down Abby. Gail, however, is not coming back in Season 3. She said showrunner Craig Mazin informed her that Gail is “definitely” not going to be in Season 3, but that she might return later on. O’Hara said she imagines that the writers invented her character to “serve Joel and Ellie” in Season 2, and now that’s run its course. Season 2 will wrap up with a cliffhanger, it seems, and it’s meant to serve the story and help entice viewers to stick around for the third season. “Hopefully, we set them up to want to return when we come back for the next run,” Mazin said. Mazin also said he believes there is a “decent chance” that Season 3 is longer than Season 2, “just because the manner of that narrative and the opportunities it affords us are a little different.” As for the game series, Naughty Dog has not announced any new The Last of Us games following the cancellation of The Last of Us Online in December 2023. The studio is now making a new IP called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a game that’s mysterious even to the people in it. Naughty Dog is working on a second game simultaneously, but we don’t know if it’s The Last of Us 3. Source link #Season #Abby Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Lebanese and Palestinians leaders agree that Lebanon won’t be used as a launchpad to strike Israel Lebanese and Palestinians leaders agree that Lebanon won’t be used as a launchpad to strike Israel BEIRUT (AP) — The Lebanese and ************ presidents agreed Wednesday that ************ factions won’t use Lebanon as a launchpad for any attacks against Israel, and to remove weapons that aren’t under the authority of the Lebanese state. The announcement was made during a meeting between President Joseph Aoun and ************ President Mahmoud Abbas, who arrived earlier in the day beginning a three-day visit to Lebanon, his first in seven years. Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Will Feature A Second City Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Will Feature A Second City Cyberpunk 2077 will celebrate its fifth anniversary later this year, and the currently untitled sequel may still be years away. While fans will eventually get to revisit Night City, Mike Pondsmith–the creator of the Cyberpunk franchise–has hinted that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will include a second city. Pondsmith appeared at Digital Dragons 2025 (Via VGC) and indicated that he’s not heavily involved with the Cyberpunk 2077 follow-up. But he has been shown the scripts and he’s been kept in the loop about some fresh additions to the game’s universe, including a new city. “I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys, and he was explaining how the new place… because there’s another city that we visit,” said Pondsmith. “And I’m not telling you anymore than that. But there’s another city that we visit. Night City is still there.” “I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work,'” added Pondsmith. “‘It doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I can see this working.'” The Witcher 4 may be getting the majority of CD Projekt Red’s attention, but the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is currently in development at the publisher’s Boston studio ostensibly to give the game a more authentic American experience than the first one. A recent job posting for the game suggested that the devs want to create “the most-realistic crowds ever.” In the meantime, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition will be a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2. It will arrive roughly a month after Switch 2’s debut on June 5. Source link #Cyberpunk #Sequel #Feature #City Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
