Take the train to Hull, walk out of the station, and it takes just seconds to arrive at the Royal Hotel. It once hosted royalty – but for the past five years it’s been home to hundreds of asylum seekers in the city.
From being a place of sanctuary, it became the frontline of last summer’s riots, when windows of the hotel were smashed and asylum seekers hid inside. Outside the Royal, there was anger and rage.
The use of hotels to house people arriving on smalls boats from France represents one of the most divisive issues in Britain today. People have been telling the BBC what the hotel means to them.
Last July, Anei was living inside the Royal Hotel as riots took hold outside. He says he was terrified. “Everyone was scared,” he adds. He tells us that he and others had to stay inside the hotel fearing that if they went outside “we die”.
Anei is 27 and arrived in the *** on a small boat three years ago. He says his parents died in South Sudan and that he was given a choice to join a militia and fight, or be killed. He decided to flee.
He tells us he was beaten up in Hull and abused on the day of the riots. “They don’t like the asylum seekers, they hit me in the back and I fell down,” he says. He tells us one person shouted “you’ve come here and taken our jobs”.
Why, I ask, does he think some people were angry with him? He says he doesn’t know and that nobody has spoken to him about the realities of his life inside the Royal Hotel. He says he has taken no job.
But Anei has now been given the right to remain in the ***, he says he wants to work and pay back the *** for the help he’s already received.

Home Office figures released on Thursday tell one story – that the number of asylum seekers being housed in hotels has fallen. But the number is still higher than when Labour came into power last year.
There were 32,345 asylum seekers living in taxpayer-funded hotels in March 2025, the figures show.
But there’s also another story. Despite the repeated promises to end asylum hotel accommodation, it remains a defining issue for many people and in many places.
Not far from the Royal Hotel, we met Gaynor, who is whizzing around on her mobility scooter, wearing large ****** sunglasses. She’s in her 70s now, but says she remembers the good times inside the Royal like it was yesterday. “The hotel was so beautiful,” she says. “We used to go in there for drinks and cocktails.”

Gaynor says it’s a shame it has now been taken over and used as accommodation for asylum seekers.
“I do feel sorry for them,” she says, “I know their countries are at war, but there’s other countries they have to go to before they get to England – I don’t think it’s fair, I don’t think it’s fair at all.”
It’s an issue that’s changed the way she votes. “Yes, I voted for Reform,” she says. “I don’t mind telling you that, something needs to be done.”
Gaynor isn’t alone in feeling like this, but there are other voices here too. One man who who lives within sight of the hotel, says it is important that asylum seekers are given accommodation while they are processed.
Outside the hotel, at a taxi rank in sight of the station, Shane was keen to chat. He works here a lot and showed us the video he filmed earlier this year. He witnessed an asylum seeker trying to kick out the windows of a room in the hotel, while holding what appeared to be a knife.
In the footage you can hear another taxi driver ask: “Why isn’t anyone stopping him?” At the end of the footage Shane says: “So this is what asylum seekers think of a four-star hotel.”
We don’t know what happened to the person inside the hotel, but for Shane the video sums up his feelings of being powerless in his home city. “It’s a case of shut up and put up, because you can’t do anything about it,” he says. “I know one or two armed forces lads who sleep rough on the streets, we’re taking in the wrong people, it’s so wrong.”
About a mile or so out of the city we visited Danny Taylor, he set up Adapt Resettlement to provide emergency food and accommodation to people struggling in Hull. He houses around two dozen people, some have been long-term homeless.

“It’s unfair,” says Danny, “we get people through this door who have been homeless for 12 months, but people who come here they get a hotel, they get three meals a day, ours have food parcels – it’s impossible to give them three meals a day.”
Inside Adapt Resettlement, we met Robbie, he’d been long-term homeless and faced drug dependency. He’s extremely vulnerable but happily showing off his food parcel of tinned vegetables and rice pudding. “I’m supposed to be on benefits and a ‘free ride’,” he says, using his hands to make quotation marks. “But the free ride isn’t all that. I wish I was an asylum seeker, I’d have free accommodation.”
Those same questions of fairness are also being asked inside Welcome House, a charity that supports asylum seekers in the city.
Its founder, Bashir Siraj – himself a refugee from Pakistan who arrived in the *** 20 years ago – says they had more than 20,000 visitors last year. He tells us he has support from many people in the city and the local council but is left dismayed when asylum seekers are blamed for living in hotels.
“Why are they attacking us? Why aren’t they blaming the government, the policies?” he asks.
The Home Office told us the Labour government inherited an asylum system under unprecedented strain, and says it is beginning to restore order.
In a statement it said: “We will be able to end the use of asylum hotels over time and reduce the overall costs to the taxpayer of asylum accommodation.
“There are now fewer hotels open than there were before the election, with more due to close by the end of May.”

Akuma’s darkness does not match the Tribal Chief‘s nobility
Roman Reigns‘ Tribal Chief in WWE is the head of the table. Since 2020, he has gone from a divisive character to someone with the commanding ability to be the babyface, empowered to lead The Bloodline by presence, power, and a touch of Samoan arrogance. He is a protector, a leader demanding loyalty, and a hero the crowd can cheer for, even when he is doing violent and ruthless acts.

The Tribal Chief speaks with the utmost degree of confidence when cutting pre-match promos, and nobody is more dominant and destructive in the ring than Roman Reigns, e.g., Superman Punch and Spear. The Tribal Chief represents family, legacy, and power while maintaining the expected warmth of a man who constantly has the crowd cheering.
Now, Akuma from Street Fighter, that guy is darkness incarnate. He is a master of the Satsui no Hado and a hermit who seeks absolute power and absolute combat. He is the man who murdered Ryu and Ken’s master, Gouken, and he feeds off chaos with his flaming red hair, demonic aura, and Raging ****** move set. Akuma is not just a villain.

He is destruction without remorse who disregards honor for unbridled strength. He is the antithesis of a team player; he only fights for fighting’s sake. To compare the two, the Tribal Chief is a leader who elevates his family, while Akuma is a destroyer who prefers to burn bridges rather than build them.
Roman Reigns grows his ringside brand through loyalty and respect. Akuma spits on both. Roman Reigns is a hero with layers. Akuma is a villain without a redeemable act in his life. The only things that they have in common are their presence/reaction and physicality, they are both two powerful forces who command their environment.
Why playing Akuma might alter fans’ perception of Roman Reigns
As a WWE fan, I’m a fan of Roman’s Tribal Chief run as it’s been a masterful storytelling. But as Akuma? That will be interesting. Seeing a heartless killer, even if fictional, could create a perception of Roman the Tribal Chief that fans will find hard to dissociate and will impact them in viewing him as a noble chief.

WWE might need to look at this from a different angle. Perhaps WWE needs to retire the Tribal Chief and rebuild Roman Reigns’ “Big Dog” concept, allowing him to emerge as a force of fearlessness and intensity while fighting for a cause, alone if he wants, as it aligns much more closely with the concept of Akuma. The Big Dog persona was one who didn’t need anyone’s help, similar to Akuma. But as we know, both of these are fan favorites.
Alternatively, Roman Reigns might play as a character from Street Fighter like Guile, who is a disciplined, honorable soldier, which seems to fit nicely with the larger-than-life presence Reigns carries with him in WWE that is not filled with exaggeratedly villainous actions.
Imma just say this: He could kill it as Akuma, he also could not. However, If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Roman Reigns is that the man has depth in his abilities as a performer and he can pull off the anger of Akuma. I look forward to seeing this if it is true [Hidden Content]

This casting could significantly alter Reigns’ identity and we could find fans seeing a darker, edgier, or even questioning Roman Reigns’ baby face status altogether.
WWE is in a tough situation if they want to retain Roman Reigns as the Tribal Chief or if they plan to step into a new era. Either way, I’m excited to have Roman transfer that great intensity from the ring to the big screen, just hoping it does not compromise his legacy in WWE!

You keep mustard in the fridge, but your partner (or roommate or dad) balks at the idea. Who’s right? The fine print on the bottle, on nearly all of the bottles — “refrigerate after opening” — isn’t much help.
Turns out, that urging is rarely about health risks and more about quality, said Abby Snyder, the associate professor of microbial food safety at Cornell University.
Dressings separate, bright sauces darken and fiery flavors fade, given enough time. Spoilage microbes might even get a foothold, making condiments and other ingredients unpleasant but not unsafe to eat. All of these processes are slowed or even halted in the fridge, but they’re already heavily inhibited by low levels of water (which bacteria need to survive) and high levels of their nemeses (salt, acid, sugar, active probiotic cultures or other preservatives).
So do you even need to refrigerate? “A good rule of thumb: If you bought it from the refrigerated section at the store, it should stay in the fridge at home,” said Carla Schwan, the director of the National Center for Home Food Preservation at the University of Georgia.
For everything else, other than a handful of examples below, consider your lifestyle. “If you use it often and it’s shelf stable, keep it in the pantry or on the counter,” said Lisa Cheng Smith, the founder of the Taiwanese pantry shop Yun Hai. “If you use it more rarely, put it in the fridge to make sure it stays in peak condition.”
A few other tips for making your condiments last: Keep shelf-stable bottles tightly sealed in a cool, dark, dry cabinet — not over the stove — as light and heat will speed up oxidation. (If you live somewhere hot and humid, you might need to move through them faster or keep more in the fridge.) And always use a clean, dry spoon or knife — no fingers — to avoid planting bacteria or the moisture they crave.
Below you’ll find everything you need — informed by food safety microbiologists, fermentation experts and the manufacturers and purveyors themselves — to help you make the call on 22 common staples, and set any debates to rest. (Yes, you can move the peanut butter to the cabinet now.)

Butter is safe at room temperature, though the flavor will eventually go off, so it’s best to leave out only what you’ll go through within a day or two. Salted will taste fresh longer than unsalted.
Kept in an airtight container, ghee — butter that has been simmered until its water evaporates — can keep for six months or longer at room temperature, said Angela Anandappa, a food microbiologist and the founding executive director and chief executive of the Alliance for Advanced Sanitation. With less-compact **** molecules for protection, whipped butters and plant-based butters are more defenseless and should stay refrigerated.
The takeaway: Butter (especially salted) is fine on the counter for a couple of days. Ghee is good in the pantry for six months or longer. Whipped butters and vegan butters belong in the fridge.

Capers are usually sold bobbing in brine or vinegar or packed in salt crystals to block bacterial growth. But, once opened, pop any jars that are packed in liquid into the fridge and keep them submerged in their brine to stave off oxidation. “Brine is the lifeblood,” said Brandon Gross, the senior vice president of brand for Divina, adding that capers have specific floral and mustard flavors that are enhanced in the fridge.
For dry-cured or salt-cured capers, Mr. Gross recommends storing them in an airtight container in the pantry, the same way you would dried fruit.
The takeaway: After opening, capers in brine or vinegar should stay swimming in their liquid in the fridge. Dry- or salt-packed capers can stay tightly sealed in the pantry.

While chile crisp is inherently shelf-stable, as with any oil-based product, “if you don’t seal it properly or keep it in a dry, dark place, there is a higher likelihood of oxidation leading to rancidity,” said Jing Gao, the founder of Fly by Jing and author of “The Book of Sichuan Chili Crisp.” She leaves her jars out, but admits that’s a matter of speed: “I go through jars pretty quickly.”
Preservative and sodium levels may vary, Ms. Smith of Yun Hai noted. For low-salt, no-preservative chile crisps (or homemade), she prefers to store them in the fridge “because it preserves all the delicate flavors captured in the oil for as long as possible.”
The takeaway: Pantry is fine if you finish jars quickly, but chile crisps stay fresher longer in the fridge.

Typically made from tiny fish like anchovies that have been salted and fermented, then pressed, fish sauce is salty enough to stay safe at room temperature after opening. But after a long stretch, “you may notice the color getting darker and the flavors more muted,” said Tiffany Pham, the chief flavor officer at the fish sauce producer Red Boat. Ms. Pham recommends moving fish sauce to the fridge if you aren’t likely to use it within a year.
“In our Vietnamese household, it’s a daily use so we keep ours in the pantry, like our moms did,” said Danny Tran, a co-founder of Son Fish Sauce. But even if your fish sauce eventually deepens in color, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. “Many home cooks actually enjoy this richer, more intense umami flavor as it ages,” Mr. Tran said. “Some even say it ‘matures’ like soy sauce or balsamic vinegar.”
The takeaway: Pantry is fine. Refrigerate for longer storage if you want to avoid shifts in flavor.

So long as you don’t let moisture in — a wet spoon, a loose lid in 90 percent humidity — honey will last virtually forever in the pantry, according to Timothy Jackson and Nicole Lindsey-Jackson, the executive directors of Detroit Hives. In fact, archaeologists have discovered well-preserved honey in Egyptian tombs that was most likely still safe to eat.
“Putting honey in the fridge actually makes it crystallize faster, turning it thick and grainy instead of smooth and golden,” Mr. Jackson and Ms. Lindsey-Jackson wrote in an email. If your honey does turn into sugar, Mike Kurtz, the founder of Mike’s Hot Honey, recommends gently warming the bottle in a water bath until it’s about 110 degrees Fahrenheit, or just leaving the bottle on a sunny windowsill.
If you encounter bottles with added sugars or corn syrup, they should be used up more quickly. “These don’t have the same natural bombproof stability,” said Kirsten K. Shockey, an author of the cult cookbook “Fermented Vegetables.”

The hot sauce section is one of the few places you may not see a lot of labels with that familiar “refrigerate after opening” suggestion, thanks to the high acidity of many brands. But it’s worth checking, since there are as many hot sauce styles as there are fancy dog breeds. Vinegary types are fine at room temperature, but “thick, pasty ones, less acidic ones or homemade hot sauces where the pH is unknown do best in the fridge,” said Julia Skinner, culinary educator and author of “Our Fermented Lives.”
For example, Tabasco, a vinegar-based hot sauce, will be just fine stored in a cool, dark pantry for at least five years after opening, according to Christian Brown, a sixth-generation family member who oversees strategic sourcing for the company. Storing it in the fridge, however, will slow discoloration. The carotenoids that give color to plants (including the red peppers in hot sauce) break down when exposed to oxygen (a.k.a. oxidation), which is why you might start to see the sauce in the top part of an open bottle darken if it’s been sitting for a long time.
The takeaway: Pantry is fine for vinegary hot sauces, but double-check the label for other styles.

Sugar binds with water, hampering the growth of bacteria, molds and yeasts. But “sugar is also what fuels microbes, so until you get to a place where the water is bound up, you have a party for the microbes,” Ms. Shockey said.
With that in mind, all varieties of jams and jellies should be kept sealed in the fridge after opening and discarded if they start to taste boozy or show signs of mold, since its roots grow deeper than the fuzz on the surface.
Sako Gordon, the owner of the jam business Ayako & Family, said her biggest tip for curbing bacterial growth in open jam jars is “to try your best to avoid ‘double dipping,’ or cross contamination. If you can use a clean spoon in place of your butter knife to scoop out your jam,” she said, “you’ll prolong the freshness.”

Bottles are left out at room temperature in diners, so they can stay out in your kitchen, too (especially if you go through as much as those restaurants do).
The acidity in tomatoes makes ketchup shelf-stable, said Jennifer Sargent, the research and development culinary specialist at Conagra Brands, makers of Hunt’s Ketchup. “However,” she said, “the flavor, quality and texture of your ketchup will deteriorate faster without refrigeration.”
The official stance of the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ FoodKeeper App — an oft-cited gold standard among food safety experts — is that shelf-stable commercial ketchup is safe when stored at room temperature after opening.
The takeaway: Pantry is fine. When storing for longer, keep in the fridge for more consistent flavor and texture.

Like yogurt, sauerkraut and other lacto-fermented foods, kimchi is preserved by the hum of happy probiotic bacteria producing lactic acid, which creates a signature ***** and wards off pathogens.
Fridge temperatures slow down, but don’t stop, fermentation. “You can enjoy ‘fresh’ kimchi,” allowing it to continue fermenting slowly in the fridge as you eat it, said Lauryn Chun, the founder of Mother-in-Law’s, a small-batch kimchi brand, and author of “The Kimchi Cookbook.” “Or if you’d like a more fermented taste right away and accelerated fermentation (more bubbly, almost carbonated fizz in your mouth that Koreans love in kimchi), leaving it overnight in ambient temperature is fine. There may be liquid overflow and big ‘pop’ overflow upon opening the lid.” If the kimchi comes in brine, be sure to keep it completely submerged so microbes don’t find a safe place to land.
The takeaway: Store in the fridge to slow fermentation. Store at room temperature short-term to speed up fermentation, deepen flavors and soften crunch (be prepared for fizz and overflow).

Unlike honey, pure maple syrup needs to be stored in the refrigerator, or it will eventually start to ferment or grow mold. If you don’t have room in the fridge for a big jug, consider the freezer. “Syrup that has been stored in the freezer will never change flavor or color,” said Cecile Branon of Branon Family Maple Orchards. “It gets deliciously thick.” Keep a smaller amount in the fridge (starting with a clean, dry glass bottle) and refill as needed, letting the freezer jug sit out for 10 to 15 minutes to thin out before pouring it in.
If your jug was left out at room temperature and starts to swell or tastes boozy, sour or bubbly, it’s fermenting, and Ms. Branon recommends discarding it. “It likely won’t make you sick as it is becoming a maple wine or vinegar. It may not be tasty, though,” Ms. Shockey said. At any signs of mold it should go, especially if you have a mold allergy.
The takeaway: After opening, store in the fridge or freezer.

Brace yourself: “Shelf-stable commercial mayonnaise is safe when stored at room temperature after opening,” the Health and Human Services Department advises, giving us three to six months to leave it in the pantry. (The same is not true of the homemade kind, which typically contains raw eggs and should be refrigerated promptly.)
However, there are other reasons beyond lingering doubt that you’d want to keep it colder. It can be hard to control room temperature, which means mayo can get too warm and its emulsification can break down. That means it can get too loose or even separate and get an unpleasant oiliness, said Jessie YuChen, a coauthor and the recipe developer of the coming cookbook “For the Love of Kewpie.”
They also caution against freezing mayo, intentionally or accidentally, which might happen by storing it in a fridge that’s too cold, especially toward the back. When the water in mayo freezes, it forms ice crystals which disrupt the emulsion, separating the oil and egg yolk. Tucking your jar into the more temperate fridge door should prevent this.
The takeaway: A cool pantry is safe for commercial mayos short-term, but the fridge door offers more stability.

You’ll find unpasteurized miso — made from salted and fermented soybeans, rice, barley, or other ingredients — in the refrigerated section to keep it alive. “Miso makers intentionally choose a specific state of maturation, similar to an aged cheese or wine,” Eleana Hsu and Kevin Gondo from Shared Cultures, a producer of miso and other umami seasonings, wrote in an email. Keeping living miso in the fridge slows down microbial activity and pauses the flavor in that state.
If your miso was sold at room temperature or says it doesn’t require refrigeration, it’s been pasteurized. It won’t contain active probiotics and can be stored at room temperature, according to Rich Shih, a mold-based fermentation educator and a coauthor of the cookbook “Koji Alchemy,” but the fridge will help it hang onto its flavor.
Pasteurized or not, the salt content will help ward off pathogens, similar to soy sauce, though the exposed surface of miso is more vulnerable to contamination. Cover it with the paper included by the manufacturer or plastic wrap and “sprinkle a little salt on top of the miso for added insurance,” Mr. Shih said.
The takeaway: Unpasteurized miso (sold in the refrigerated section) should stay refrigerated. Pasteurized (sold at room temperature) can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge, with the paper or plastic wrap pressed to the surface.

“Thanks to the nature of the mustard seed — and ingredients like vinegar and salt — it’s inherently stable,” said Brandon Collins, the mustard sommelier at Maille, the condiment brand. “It’s antibacterial, so nothing can really grow in it.”
That said, Mr. Collins explained: “Mustard’s heat comes from when water activates its natural defense mechanisms. Keeping it in the fridge slows that reaction down,” preserving the spice. So, if you go through mustard quickly, feel free to keep it out. “If you’re going to enjoy it slowly — or if you’ve got 100 different mustards on hand,” he said, “then into the fridge it goes.”
The takeaway: Pantry is fine, but the fridge will keep it spicier longer.

Broadly speaking, refined oils will have a longer shelf life than unrefined, according to Dr. Anandappa, but all will oxidize more quickly in bright light, heat and open air. So tuck oils away in a dark pantry and tighten those lids. Bonus points for metal or dark glass bottles over clear glass or plastic.
In homes where temperatures get above 77 degrees Fahrenheit, Takehiro Wada, the fifth-generation chief executive of the sesame producer Wadaman, recommends refrigerating sesame oil. If the oil becomes cloudy in the fridge, just let it stand at room temperature for a few minutes. “It will quickly return to a liquid state,” Mr. Wada said.
The fridge also isn’t a bad idea for infrequent users. “If you leave oils too long in the pantry, they will eventually go rancid and get that paint chip flavor,” Ms. Smith said.
The takeaway: A cool, dark pantry is fine for most oils. For delicate oils, the fridge is better, especially for hotter weather and less-frequent drizzlers.

The original oyster sauce was made — accidentally — when Lee **** Sheung, the founder of Lee **** Kee, boiled oyster broth down to a concentrated umami slurry. “Now, it is often thickened with cornstarch,” Ms. Shockey said, “which changes the nature of the sauce,” diluting the protective powers of salt and acid.
“I definitely refrigerate it,” said the ******** culinary expert and cookbook author Grace Young, who favors the brand Megachef. (Directives from other brands like Lee **** Kee and Kikkoman agree.)

Both natural and no-stir styles of peanut butter are inherently low in moisture and can be stored in the pantry for a good three months after opening, according to the National Peanut Board. After that, move them to the fridge. If they’ve been sitting longer and the butter smells or tastes off, get rid of it.
Natural-style peanut butters don’t have hydrogenated oils or other stabilizers, so over time the oil will float to the top and can be tricky to stir back in. Keeping them in the fridge after a good stir will slow this separation. In the pantry, periodically flipping the jar to store upside down (and back) will help the oil gently reincorporate. Or less gently, just make some strategic stabs and swipes with a table knife.
The takeaway: Keep in the pantry for two to three months, refrigerate after that.

Pickles are how generations have put cucumbers and other fresh vegetables on pause — but it’s only a pause.
While experts generally recommend storing opened jars in the refrigerator, “for fermented pickles (think full sours and half sours) you technically can store these on the counter, though your half sours will become full sours if you do,” Ms. Skinner said. Like all pickles, “keep them completely submerged in brine to prevent pathogen growth and note that fermented cucumbers can get mushy very easily, especially in hot weather.”
With varying acidity and salt levels for different styles, popping jars in the fridge errs on the side of caution (and will keep them crunchier, too).
The takeaway: Pickles from the refrigerated section go in the fridge. Pickles in shelf-stable jars, once opened, should, too. Keep them all fully submerged in brine.

Fresh salsa is easy. If you made it yourself or bought it chilled at the grocery store, keep it in the fridge. Rick A. Martínez, the author of “Salsa Daddy” (who also develops recipes for NYT Cooking), recommends eating it within four days or freezing it in an airtight container. “By freezing, you will lock the flavor and color, and the salsa will remain fresh tasting for up to six months.” Chopped salsas like pico de gallo should be blended first to sidestep the slumpy texture of frozen-then-thawed raw vegetables. Blend on medium-low speed, “no higher or you will incorporate air and activate the pectin and make a salsa jelly,” Mr. Martínez said.
Shelf-stable salsa from the grocery store aisle is trickier: It’s theoretically processed to be safe in the pantry after opening, according to the Health and Human Services Department. Food safety and fermentation experts are more cautious, since salsas have some of the acidity of ketchup, but more moisture for microbes to latch onto.
To keep either type at its brightest, store in the fridge after opening and serve on an ice pack during hotter months, recommends a representative from Teresa’s Gourmet Foods, which makes fresh and shelf-stable salsas.

Soy sauce has enough salt that harmful microbes can’t take hold, and most commercial types are pasteurized for added shelf stability. “However, if you buy artisan or higher-end soy sauce” that’s been traditionally fermented, “keep it in the fridge to retain its nuanced flavor,” said Kenji Morimoto, a chef and the author of the coming cookbook “Ferment.” Low-sodium varieties benefit from the extra protection of the fridge, too.
Mr. Shih agrees, but notes that even small-batch soy sauces won’t change quickly, unless the conditions are extreme. “Don’t freak out if you leave a bottle out overnight,” Mr. Shih said.
The takeaway: Pantry is fine, but the fridge will keep peak flavor longer, especially small-batch and low-sodium types.

Made from ground sesame seeds (and typically nothing else), tahini is low-moisture and safe to store at room temperature after opening. “Pantry storage gives you an easier-to-mix texture, ideal for drizzling, dressings and sauces,” said Amy Zitelman, the chief executive and a founder of the tahini producer Soom Foods. For easier stirring, she recommends keeping the jar upside-down to counteract the solids settling into the bottom, which can happen more quickly at room temperature.
When tahini is chilled, it thickens to a nut-buttery paste. “If you store it in the fridge and want it thinner for a recipe, just stir some ice-cold water into your bowl of tahini (not the jar!),” Ms. Zitelman said. (As with other condiments, introducing water will invite other forms of life to grow.) The tahini may seize up at first — just keep whisking in a little water at a time until it smooths out.
The takeaway: Store upside-down in the pantry for drizzling and mixing; store in the fridge for spreading. Both are safe.

While vinegar is a pantry staple and the stuff many things are preserved in (see: pickles, capers, hot sauce), it’s not invincible. You’ll want to keep it away from heat, sunlight, air and moisture. “In other words, not next to or above your stovetop as many people do,” said Michael Harlan Turkell, the author of the cookbook “Acid Trip: Travels in the World of Vinegar.”
Rarely, some lower-acid or unpasteurized vinegars will have labels recommending storing in the fridge. Mr. Turkell said the same advice would apply for any bottles that are cloudy or have a lot of particulates, which can age too quickly and develop off flavors.
Mr. Turkell’s rule of thumb: If it doesn’t smell like acetic acid — the powerful main component of vinegar — don’t use it. “Put the bottle down,” he said, “because if acetic acid isn’t in the forefront, it isn’t vinegar anymore.”
The takeaway: Store most in the pantry; refrigerate to better preserve lower-acid, unpasteurized and cloudy bottles.

Both traditional and vegan brands are vinegar-based and amply salted, so they’re considered safe at room temperature after opening. However, if Worcestershire doesn’t move quickly in your household, the flavors will diminish faster in the pantry than at cooler temperatures.
“If you do choose to store open bottles at room temp, I’d say get a smaller size bottle and keep it in a cool, dark place,” said Hadar Cohen Aviram, an executive chef at McCormick & Company, which makes French’s Worcestershire. And if you’re shaking it into meatballs and loaves, make sure to wash your hands well before grabbing the bottle.

Geelong coach Chris Scott has intimated he has “inside information” that the AFL’s goal-line technology isn’t up to scratch after Oliver Dempsey was controversially denied a goal.
Cats wingman Dempsey thought he had poked home a goal during the second quarter of his side’s 20.7 (127) to 16.17 (113) win over the Western Bulldogs on Thursday night.
But the goal umpire’s decision was overturned on review due to a slight spike on the ‘Edge’ technology, which indicated the ball had nicked the post on the way through.
“This is controversial, probably, but I’d love to see the technology around the Edge with that shot at goal,” Scott said.
“The goal umpire was 30 centimetres away from that.
“If he can’t hear that or see that, then something’s wrong. Like, the technology, please.”
Scott did not want to comment on a Dempsey mark that appeared to be taken over the boundary line at a crucial stage of the final quarter.
The call to pay the mark left Bulldogs players stunned and led to an important goal for the Cats.
Scott said he did not have a good view of that incident, but went back a second time to Dempsey’s overturned goal and challenged the AFL.
“I am prepared to say with the Edge technology, show us that it works,” the two-time premiership coach said.
“They’re saying it works off sound but the goal umpire’s 30 centimetres away from it.
“If he doesn’t think that it hit the post – I back him over the technology any day.
“And I might have a bit of inside information that it doesn’t work that well.”
The decision to pay Dempsey’s fourth-quarter mark raised the ire of Bulldogs coach Beveridge, whose side was also on the wrong end of a 26-12 free kick count.
“Critical part of the game, lots of eyes on it, but as I always say, swings and roundabouts, they happen,” Beveridge said.
“No one’s sitting in our rooms thinking about the free kick differential and no one’s talking about it. It just happens here and there.”

This year’s Warhammer Skulls showcase had no shortage of announcements–from an upgraded version of Space Marine to a Boltgun sequel–but for strategy fans, the highlight here was the announcement of Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition. There’s no release date for it yet, but the game will be coming to PC later this year.
This new version of the classic RTS has been updated for modern systems, and players can expect 4K support, upscaled textures, and image-based lighting to enhance the visuals. While developer Relic Entertainment is aiming to retain the classic experience of the game, there will be a few other modern touches like an improved gameplay camera alongside a HUD that has been optimized for widescreen gaming.
The modding community can also expect to be catered to, as the game has been upgraded to support 64-bit platforms. This means that 20 years of community mods will continue to be supported.
In terms of content, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition will include all of the standalone expansion content–Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm. First released in 2004, Dawn of War is still widely regarded to be one of the best Warhammer 40K strategy games. Its first sequel, Dawn of War 2, was released in 2009, and the threequel Dawn of War 3 launched in 2017.
In case you missed it, there were several other big announcements during Warhammer Skulls. While the sequel to the retro-flavored Boltgun won’t be out for a while, you can sharpen your typing skills in a free spin-off game that’s out right now. Maxsun shows off liquid-cooled RXT 50 series GPU covered in RGB lighting
Maxsun is a well-known overseas graphics card maker that (mostly) makes triple-fan and dual-fan Nvidia and Intel graphics cards. However, at Computex 2025, Maxsun showed off a sneak peek of its wildest and most unorthodox graphics card yet.
The card has no name, but it is allegedly a concept RTX 50-series liquid-cooled GPU sporting a full RGB LED shroud. The card has two “screens”: one on the bottom and one on the top, with a rounded edge on the top that wraps the two screens together. Maxsun designed the card with a bunch of fancy graphics transitioning between several colors (similar to “rainbow” or “spectrum” mode on RGB products), all centered around a large Maxsun logo in the middle of each “screen.”

Maxsun’s concept card is radically different from conventional liquid-cooled graphics cards in the industry, which are much more minimalist in comparison. Most liquid-cooled AIO graphics cards currently use liquid cooling to shrink the physical graphics card as much as possible — resembling miniature style blower-style cards (for cards that have a single fan on the shroud).
By contrast, Maxsun is using liquid cooling on its concept card to maximize aesthetic bling. The card is essentially a full-sized triple-fan graphics card that has had its fans stripped out and replaced with RGB lighting and fancy graphics.
Maxsun did not share any specs or details of the card, but we know the card is a liquid-cooled RTX 50 series graphics card that could be released. It is technically a concept card, so there’s no guarantee we’ll see this GPU make it into consumer hands — but there’s always a chance.
The card’s designers could also still be working on the graphics card’s design, which would explain why Maxsun is shy to set a release date. That could be a good thing, though — maybe next time Maxsun shows this card off to the public, it will have replaced the static RGB lighting shroud with a full OLED screen (a feature that is becoming commonplace on AIO liquid coolers and PC cases — we saw one on Lian Li’s new V200 chassis).
This fancy concept card wasn’t the only GPU Maxsun showed off at Computex this year; it also showed off a dual-GPU Battlemage graphics card sporting two Arc Pro B60 GPU dies inside.

“I certainly ***** myself for this game but it was almost reverse psychology with them not giving me attention,” Smith said.
“So it was good, they didn’t go after me and I loved it. I’m so glad we beat them.”
Smith’s latest performance continued his strong start to the season with Geelong, which has him firmly in Brownlow Medal contention.
“It’s been fun. I’m just so grateful to be able to be welcomed with open arms after a bit of a ***** year last year,” he said.
“I’m just grateful and trying to repay them as best I can, and just outwork everyone we come up against, so I’m loving it.”

Earlier this month, the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was finally released by Rockstar Games, and as Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick put it, it “broke the internet.” To date, it has over one billion views on YouTube, so it was inevitable that fans would remix the original trailer into a new form. Now, someone has released a remake of the GTA 6 trailer with a PlayStation 2-inspired makeover.
The PS2 Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was posted on YouTube by a user called Foosmoke, and there appears to be some subtle humor in this video. There’s clipping when Jason robs the convenience store, which is definitely true to a PS2 experience. Jason also appears to have more trouble lifting weights in this version than he did in the actual trailer.
The Vice City glimpsed in this trailer remake is also noticeably less populated than the one seen in the original trailer. The PS2-era GTA games couldn’t handle subtle expressions and body language in their character models like the new game can. And without those touches, this take on the GTA 6 trailer doesn’t have the same resonance as the original.
Digital Foundry recently shared an in-depth look at the second GTA 6 trailer and concluded that it won’t be able to run on Nintendo Switch 2 despite the new system’s greatly improved hardware. This PS2-style incarnation of the game would probably work for both incarnations of the Switch, but who would want to play this downgraded version after seeing what GTA 6 really looks like?
GTA 6 is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 on May 26, 2026. That delay is estimated to cost the video game industry approximately $2.7 billion in 2025, according to Ampere Analysis.

Trump’s Prescription Price Controls Would Lead to Fewer New Drugs
In an executive order last week, President Donald Trump effectively instituted price controls on prescription drugs—not just those purchased by the government through Medicare and Medicaid, but apparently all prescription drugs sold in the United States. The order directed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to “communicate most-favored-nation price targets to pharmaceutical manufacturers,” meaning the companies must charge Americans the lowest price that any other country was getting for the same drug.
This week, HHS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced they would being implementing the president’s order. While it remains to be seen what actual legal authority—if any—the president has to impose such a directive, it’s clear that if fully enacted, it would be detrimental to the American health care market.
“The Department has identified specific targets pharmaceutical manufacturers are expected to meet to satisfy the requirements of the Executive Order,” according to an HHS press release on Tuesday.
The order intends to correct an imbalance between prescription prices in the U.S. and in other nations, specifically members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). “The prices Americans pay for brand-name drugs are more than three times the price other OECD nations pay,” the White House claimed last week. “Americans are subsidizing drug-manufacturer profits and foreign health systems, despite drug manufacturers benefiting from generous research subsidies and enormous healthcare spending by the U.S. Government.”
The complaint is valid: Americans do shoulder the brunt of the costs of new drugs, which are largely developed in the U.S. But there’s a reason for that imbalance, which Trump’s likely unconstitutional order not only wouldn’t fix but would likely exacerbate.
In a Fox News op-ed, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called the order “a revolution in healthcare affordability. The plan is simple yet transformative: ensure Americans pay no more for medications than citizens of other wealthy nations.”
But the order simply directs a Cabinet department to tell drug companies to charge less for their products. It doesn’t mention any ways a drug company could lower its costs, and it doesn’t list any steps the government will take to ease the costly regulatory burdens those companies face. The only thing revolutionary about the order is how brazenly it flouts constitutional principles by attempting to exert pressure on private companies.
“The [executive] order is a disaster,” says Wayne Winegarden, senior fellow at the Pacific Research Institute, a free market think tank. “How do you implement this? How do you force, and by what authority do you force, private manufacturers to charge…a certain price?”
“We expect pharmaceutical manufacturers to fulfill their commitment to lower prices for American patients, or we will take action to ensure they do,” Kennedy said, as quoted in the press release.
What form that action will take is unclear, though Trump’s order did say in the event a manufacturer did not comply, HHS and other agencies should take certain steps like “enforcement action against any anti-competitive practices” and “review and potentially modify or revoke approvals granted for drugs, for those drugs that maybe [sic] be unsafe, ineffective, or improperly marketed.” Presumably, the administration could start pulling approvals for a certain manufacturer’s drugs, or threaten it with an antitrust lawsuit, unless the company hit its price targets.
But while Americans do pay a premium for prescription drugs over other industrialized nations, we get something for that premium. “The access issues in those countries are real,” Winegarden says. “We have access to a much larger share of innovative medicines overall, we get them quicker here, and so if we adopt [price controls] here, we would have those same access issues.”
It’s also not uniformly the case that all drugs are more expensive here. A 2024 RAND report found that while name-brand drugs in the U.S. were “422 percent of prices in comparison countries,” unbranded generics—which make up 90 percent of all prescriptions dispensed in the U.S.—”were on average cheaper at 67 percent of prices in comparison countries, where on average only 41 percent of prescription volume is for unbranded generics.”
“Those countries are pricing the drugs well below the cost of capital,” he adds. “The bottom line is there’s a cost of capital involved in developing innovative medicines. And if you don’t cover the cost of capital, you’re not gonna continue to operate.”
And while lowering the costs of drugs would expand access, it would also have negative consequences overall.
In 2019, the Elijah Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act passed the U.S. House before stalling in the Senate. The bill would have required HHS to negotiate the costs of several name-brand drugs for which there were no generic substitutes. When scoring the bill, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warned it could have negative effects on the pharmaceutical market.
“In the short term, lower prices would increase use of drugs and improve people’s health,” the report found. “In the longer term, CBO estimates that the reduction in manufacturers’ revenues…would result in lower spending on research and development and thus reduce the introduction of new drugs.” The CBO estimated that “a reduction in revenues of $0.5 trillion to $1 trillion would lead to a reduction of approximately 8 to 15 new drugs coming to market over the next 10 years.”
To be sure, it’s hard to argue with the premise of Trump’s order: Americans do pay much more for new drugs than people in other countries, even though the majority of those drugs are developed and manufactured here. Kennedy paints dire picture of children’s health in new report
The White House on Thursday released its long-awaited “Make America Healthy Again” report, painting a dire picture of American children’s health. The lengthy federal assessment’s goal is to identify the root causes of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and neurodevelopmental disorders in children.
“Our kids are the sickest kids in the world,” Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said during a call with reporters Thursday morning.
Ultraprocessed food and environmental toxins were at the top of Kennedy’s list of problems that need to be urgently addressed to curb increases in chronic diseases during childhood. The report also cited sedentary, technology-driven lifestyles and the overprescribing of medications.
The report was heavy on outlining problems, but light on concrete solutions.
“The next stage of this process is to come up with policy recommendations for the president,” Kennedy said.
Trump commissioned the report in February in an executive order establishing the Make America Healthy Again Commission, a group of high-ranking federal officials tasked with reviewing research and making recommendations on chronic disease in children. The report echoes the priorities of Kennedy, who chairs the commission.
Kennedy said Thursday that the assessment will inform a follow-up report on policy recommendations to be released in the next 100 days. He added that there is “no budget” to support the initiative at this point, given that “there’s no concrete policy that could be funded in a budget.”
“I think everybody wants to prioritize the ultraprocessed food crisis” in those policy recommendations, he told NBC News on the call. Such foods have been linked to obesity, heart disease and *******, but the strength and quality of these studies vary.
As health secretary, Kennedy has been outspoken about all four subjects highlighted in the report. In his first nearly 100 days in office, he announced that he was asking the food industry to phase out artificial dyes from the food supply and directed the Food and Drug Administration to revise a rule that allows food manufacturers to use additives that are “generally recognized as safe” without notifying the federal government. He also praised local efforts to restrict cellphone use in schools, ban fluoride in public water systems and prohibit the purchase of soda and energy drinks under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.
Kennedy has also called attention to what he sees as serious health risks associated with pesticides — in particular, the weed killer glyphosate, which Kennedy has said is linked to a range of diseases, including *******. The evidence itself is mixed.
While the MAHA report was widely anticipated to focus on pesticides, it instead highlights the “cumulative load of chemicals in the environment,” mentioning pesticides alongside other chemicals like PFAS, microplastics, fluoride, phthalates and bisphenols.
Many Republican lawmakers and members of the agricultural industry had expressed concern leading up to the report’s release that criticizing pesticide use could endanger farmers’ livelihoods and erode public trust in the food supply.
Kennedy told the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday that he would not take any action to jeopardize the jobs of farmers who rely on glyphosate. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin said on Thursday’s press call that the federal government will continue to regularly review the safety of pesticides, but noted that abrupt changes in agricultural practices could adversely impact the domestic food supply.
While the MAHA report addresses some real issues, “the problem is that they need to come up with meaningful solutions,” said Dr. Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association.
The report offers some hints of where the MAHA Commission might choose to place its focus. For instance, it recommends that the National Institutes of Health fund long-term trials comparing the effects of eating whole foods, reducing carbohydrate intake and minimizing ultraprocessed foods on obesity and insulin resistance in children.
It also criticizes the current federal dietary guidelines for not explicitly addressing ultraprocessed foods, claiming the guidelines have “a history of being unduly influenced by corporate interests.” An independent advisory committee that evaluated the dietary guidelines under the Biden administration did not recommend any immediate changes for 2025-2030 to account for ultraprocessed foods.
The Trump administration is expected to release a new, updated version of the guidelines before the end of the year. Kennedy, whose department is overseeing the revision in tandem with the Department of Agriculture, has said that the new version will be scrubbed of influence by the food industry.
The MAHA report also recommends more research on the long-term health outcomes of commonly prescribed pediatric drugs. The report claims there are proven harms associated with overtreating children with antibiotics or medications for ADHD and depression, and “potentially major long-term repercussions” associated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (a class of antidepressants), puberty blockers and GLP-1 agonists (the class of weight loss and diabetes drugs that includes Ozempic).
Benjamin said many of the suggested research areas in the report are already being studied, adding that the Trump administration’s massive cuts to NIH grants could be at odds with their goal.
“They keep saying that they want to do ‘gold standard research’ but they’ve cut funding from many of the nation’s leading academic centers,” he said.
The report made no mention of a leading cause of children’s deaths in the country: guns.

Following the success of the tactical RPG Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, developer Owlcat Games is back with a follow-up, and this one will let you make your presence known as an Inquisitor.
“Set against the backdrop of the Noctic Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption–from loyal Imperial subjects, such as a veteran Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, to nefarious xenos, including a bird-like Kroot mercenary,” Owlcat Games said in the official announcement.
If you’ve played Rogue Trader, this basic setup should sound relatively familiar. Like its predecessor (which is still getting a new expansion and additional content via Season Pass 2), Dark Heresy features turn-based combat and “choices that carry grave consequences.” In Warhammer 40,000, your choices are usually “bad” or “really bad,” but no one in this universe is really a good person, so you don’t have to feel too guilty.
Owlcat says Dark Heresy “greatly expands on the ideas introduced in Rogue Trader,” which was itself an extremely large and expansive CRPG. Alongside the Baldur’s Gate-like combat and exploration, Rogue Trader also features spaceship combat using an entirely different turn-based system. It’s unclear if this will appear in Dark Heresy.
No release window for Dark Heresy was given in the official announcement during Warhammer Skulls 2025, but the game will be coming to PC as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It was just one of many announcements at the event, which also featured Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

Crossovers with other popular IPs are no strangers to Wizards of the Coast’s long-running trading card game, Magic: The Gathering. From Stranger Things and The Lord of the Rings to Assassin’s Creed and Street Fighter, Magic: The Gathering fans have had ample ways to simultaneously celebrate their fandom of both the beloved TCG and other franchises. The Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy set is the latest in the long-running TCG’s collaborations, and it feels like one of the more popular and anticipated crossovers in recent memory.
In the lead-up to the Final Fantasy set’s June launch, we’ve seen several reveals of iconic characters like Sephiroth, Lightning, Yuna, Clive, and others from across the entire Final Fantasy series. Today, Game Informer can exclusively reveal three more cards coming to the Final Fantasy set.
Reach the Horizon features art of the core cast of Final Fantasy VII staring off into the distance, with a quote from Tifa at the bottom. It allows you to search for up to two distinct basic land and/or Town cards and put them into the battlefield. Also from Final Fantasy VII is the Weapons Vendor, which lets you draw a card, and at the beginning of your turn, you can pay one Mana, allowing you to attach Equipment to a creature you control. The final card we’re able to reveal comes from the original Final Fantasy, World Map. When sacrificed, you can search your library for land cards to put into your hand.

HighPoint, a company recognized for providing storage solutions with gargantuan capacities, has introduced a new 976TB external NVMe storage solution based on the RocketStor 6542AW. The latest product, which targets data-intensive workloads, also achieves transfer speeds of up to 28 GB/s.
External hard drives and SSDs are great for portability; however, they may occasionally prove insufficient if you need pure raw storage capacity. While it is true that not everyone needs close to a petabyte of external storage, such capacity could be extraordinarily beneficial for professionals or enterprises handling substantial amounts of data — or who are simply in need of a significant backup solution. Measuring 9.25 (W) x 4.84 (H) x 9.27 (D) inches, the RocketStor 6542AW is sufficiently compact to seamlessly integrate into any environment — in an office, a living room, or anywhere you would store your PC.
The RocketStor 6542AW is an external enclosure featuring a power supply and two cooling fans for active heat dissipation. It has eight removable 2.5-inch NVMe bays with hot-plug support. However, it only accommodates U.2 or U.3 SSDs, making standard M.2 drives incompatible. As a result, it is limited to supporting enterprise or data center SSDs, such as Solidigm’s D5 series.

Highpoint has installed eight Solidigm D5-P5336 122TB SSDs in the RocketStor 6542AW to provide 976TB of storage. The D5-P5336 is a U.2 PCIe 4.0 drive with 192-layer QLC (quad-level cell) 3D NAND and sequential read and write speeds up to 7,400 MB/s and 3,200 MB/s, respectively. A single SSD probably doesn’t look impressive, but they’re fast in unison when part of a RAID array. Remember that the RocketStor 6542AW supports RAID 0, 1, and 10 arrays.

You cannot connect the RocketStor 6542AW to your system via a standard USB port. Instead, it features a CDFP interface that links to the included Rocket 1544 PCIe adapter. This low-profile AIC requires a PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion slot to achieve optimal performance. It has one CDFP port capable of delivering a bandwidth of up to 400 Gb/s, equating to an effective transfer rate of 32 GB/s. However, the D5-P5336 drives do not fully utilize this interface, as the 976TB is rated for speeds of up to 28 GB/s.
The RocketStor 6542AW showcases a fairly typical design. On the front, users can access the removable 2.5-inch bays along with three status LEDs. The rear features a 100 Mbps Ethernet port, a CDFP port, a USB Type-C port restricted to USB 2.0 speeds, a switch to change the function of the USB Type-C port, a power switch, a mute button to silence alarms, and a Kensington lock for securing the device.
HighPoint has not yet listed its new 976TB solution on the e-store, nor has it disclosed pricing or availability. The standalone RocketStor 6542AW is priced at $1,799, while each Solidigm D5-P5336 122TB costs approximately $16,345, leading to a possible total price of $132,559. By comparison, the existing RocketAIC 6542AWW solution — which offers half the storage (491.52TB) — is available for $78,999. Don’t worry, you can purchase the RocketStor 6542AW separately and acquire the SSDs on your own, if you are able to find better pricing.

Best gaming laptops of Computex 2025 – top picks from Asus, Acer, and more
Computex 2025 has seen some of the biggest names in computing, including Asus, Acer and MSI, show off their latest products, and I’ve been checking out some of the devices I think will have a strong chance to appear in our best gaming laptops guide when they launch in the next 12 months.
Below, you’ll find my picks of the best gaming laptops of Computex 2025. While I was only able to spend a short amount of time with each of them, their specs (including cutting-edge mobile components from Intel, AMD and Nvidia), features and designs having given me a good idea (after nearly 20 years as a tech journalist) of whether or not these gaming laptops are going to be worth buying.
Of course, when they are made available, we’ll be fully reviewing each one to see if they are actually worthy of being included in any of our best laptops buying guides, which will include playing the latest AAA games on them. Until then, however, these are the gaming laptops I’m most looking forward to. Make sure you check out my roundup of the best laptops of Computex 2025 for my top picks of general-use laptops as well.

I’ve often felt that as a PC gamer, if I want the most powerful hardware on the planet to give me the very best gaming performance, then my only choice is to get a gaming PC, rather than a laptop.
However, gaming laptops like the new MSI Titan 18 HX AI, which is on show at MSI’s big booth at Computex 2025, are challenging that preconception thanks to some incredibly powerful mobile components that can give you near desktop-level performance while also remaining portable enough to carry around in your backpack.
The MSI Titan 18 HX AI features an Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX processor and up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU – currently the most powerful graphics card you can get in a gaming laptop.
Unlike some of the other best gaming laptops I have seen at Computex 2025, the MSI Titan 18 HX AI isn’t trying to be thin and light, and while that means this isn’t the most portable of gaming laptops, it’s still much easier to carry around than a desktop PC – and it also means MSI has had a bit more scope to put some killer features in here.
The 18-inch UHD+ screen comes with mini-LED technology and 120Hz refresh rate, and games looked fantastic. It also supports 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, making it an excellent choice for content creators (especially people making videos) looking for a powerful workstation.
It also features four SSD slots, giving you some decent upgrade options if you want to expand the storage. A mechanical keyboard from SteelSeries makes playing game genres like FPS (First Person Shooters) a joy, and typing up documents should feel great as well.
High tech vapor chamber cooling and MSI OverBoost Ultra Technology means the MSI Titan 18 HX AI should be able to max out its performance for long periods of time to make sure you’re getting the very best gaming performance, and the 99.9Whr battery is the largest you can get in a laptop (any larger and you’d not be able to bring it on a plane), so hopefully battery life won’t be ridiculously short, though I still wouldn’t expect more than a few hours.
If money is no object, this could be the gaming laptop for you, and could even sway a few desktop zealots like myself.
2. Asus ROG Flow Z13 (2025)

The latest Asus ROG Flow Z13 model was on display at Computex 2025, and I certainly liked what I saw as I browsed Asus’ huge stand. I’ve always been intrigued by the ROG Flow series of devices, as they are essentially very powerful tablet-like devices that can be turned into gaming laptops.
Not many laptop makers experiment with new form factors like Asus does (the company also makes innovative dual-screen laptops), so I have to give the company props for trying new things, and while in the past I’ve felt that components for ultra-thin tablets have not been powerful enough to make a 2-in-1 gaming laptop viable, I think the 2025 model could change that.
It comes with an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor and AMD Radeon 8060S GPU, up to 128GB of unified LPDDR5X RAM and a 13-inch 2.5K screen with 180Hz refresh rate. Asus has a strong reputation in mobile gaming thanks to its excellent ROG Ally and ROG Ally X handhelds, and the Asus ROG Flow Z13 (2025) could be an excellent alternative for people who like genres such as RTS (Real Time Strategy) that are better suited to mouse and keyboard controls.
3. Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 AI

If you’re looking for something more portable, yet still powerful, than many gaming laptops, then the Acer Helios Neo 14 AI could be worth considering. It comes with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, 32GB RAM and an RTX 5070 GPU, which should mean it can handle modern PC games with relative ease, while its 14-inch screen (which can be configured with an OLED panel) helps keep the overall size of this laptop down.
As I mentioned in our Computex 2025 live blog when I saw this at an Acer roundup, I’m not too convinced how artificial intelligence will help with gaming laptops (outside of stuff like DLSS), but Acer has seen fit to put AI in the product name.
The metal chassis means the Acer Helios Neo 14 AI feels sturdy and robust despite its smaller size, and Acer’s own Aero Blade 3D fan design and heat pipes should mean that temperatures are kept down when playing games – which can often be tricky in smaller gaming laptops.
4. Gigabyte Aorus Master 16

Gigabyte might not be the first brand you think of when considering a new gaming laptop, but I think that should change. For a few years now the company has been punching above its weight, and often shows up in our best gaming laptop list amongst more recognizable companies like Razer and Asus.
So, I always make sure I swing by the Gigabyte stand when I’m at Computex, and this year it was the Gigabyte Aorus Master 16 that caught my eye.
Specs-wise there’s a lot to love here, with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, up to an RTX 5090 GPU and a great-looking 16-inch OLED screen with a super-fast 240Hz refresh rate. My only reservation is that the screen’s resolution is 2560 x 1600, which means the RTX 5090 configuration is major overkill – though it does mean you should be making use of that 240Hz refresh rate in even the most graphically-demanding games.

What I really like about the Gigabyte Aorus Master 16 is its design. Usually, Gigabyte laptops can be a bit plain, but the chassis of this laptop, with subtle patterns that spell out ‘Aorus’ makes it look like a stylish and premium gaming laptop that can rival Asus’ best-looking laptops.
5. Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI

OK, I’m going to be honest: the thing that I really loved about the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI that I saw at Computex 2025 was the Indiana Jones and The Great Circle theme. I loved the game, and while I’ve long since finished it, my love of the Indiana Jones franchise means I’d happily buy a laptop that featured Indy’s iconic hat and whip.
Performance-wise the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI features an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, up to an Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti GPU and can be configured with up to a 16-inch OLED screen with 240Hz refresh rate.
The ‘S’ in the product name refers to the slim design, which is less than 18.9mm high with the screen closed, another nice example of a gaming laptop that isn’t big and bulky – especially impressive as its 16-inch screen means you don’t have to sacrifice immersion.

The Six One Indie Showcase returned today with over an hour of indie love and more than 40 games to highlight. There were world premieres, new reveals and trailers, and more, including a vinyl and board game announcement. As triple-A games take longer and longer to develop, I find myself playing more indies. Not only do they fill the gap of big releases each year, but they’re also where I find the most unique games I’ve ever played. Today’s showcase is a great example of that, and below is my round-up of every game shown during today’s Six One Indie Showcase.

In this exclusive look, we see more of Artis Impact’s subdued but beautiful pixel art on display, with a gorgeous storybook-esque world map to explore, too. The game’s combat is the real highlight, as the perspective switches to a cinematic shadowbox for one-versus-one duels.

It features dialogue choices that affect the story, 50 arcade levels to run over and over, and more.

I have no idea what’s happening in this world, but I’m here for it. In this strange 2D adventure, play as Bonnie Bear, who likes cheese, frog-dependent minigames, and friends that look like fruit with arms and legs. Despite the oddity of the art style and world, the game seems quite cozy, with voice-acted dialogue to accompany the narrative.

As part of the showcase, developer Manik Bhat announced that a demo for Future Vibe Check is now available. Future Vibe Check is an “automation game where you make music,” according to Bhat. He says it combines Eastern philosophy and his love of music to create a unique esoteric adventure, calling it a game for fans of Factorio and Satisfactory. Mine resources, create a musical “vibe,” and continue upgrading your setup as you go.

Reminiscent of Disco Elysium, this isometric RPG utilizes personality traits we’re all familiar with, like extrovert and introvert, to progress. It’s not just about choices, but figuring out why you made those choices, and rewriting your brain.

Like the 1000xResist vinyl, this highlight wasn’t about a video game per see, but a tabletop board game. Though the trailer was somewhat vague, it seems like BattleVersus pits players of different soldiers, from military to pirates to warriors, against each other on a chess-like battlefield.
BLE Studios head Asa GreenRiver says BattleVersus “takes all the preconceived notions of what a tabletop game can be, polishes it up real nice, flips them upside down, and stomps them into oblivion.” It blends faction-based strategic multiplayer action and drops players into a dark tournament of power and poise. GreenRiver says it was built using video game design principles, and is open to various playstyles amongst the four playable factions.

There’s only one way home, and it’s not going to be an easy journey. In Dinoblade, you control a sick **** dinosaur (a Spinosaurus) with a sick **** sword who is set on becoming the king of the battlefield. It’s as simple as that – slash and hack through formidable foes with the sword in your mouth.

Grammy-winning rapper and actor Kid Cudi is expected to be called to the witness stand on Thursday in the federal criminal trial of Sean Combs.
Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, is known for his debut album from 2009, Man on the Moon: The End of the Day, and won two Grammy Awards in 2012 for his song “All of the Lights,” which he worked on with Kanye “Ye” West. He has also appeared in the HBO TV series Westworld and the films Don’t Look Up and X.
Why is he testifying?
Kid Cudi briefly dated Combs’s ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who testified last week that in late 2011 she met Kid Cudi and they soon started dating. When Combs found out about the relationship during one of their “freak offs,” Ventura said he lunged at her with a wine bottle opener.
Ventura testified that Combs threatened to release “freak off” videos of her and that he would hire someone to “hurt” Ventura and Kid Cudi. She said Combs also threatened to blow up Kid Cudi’s car, hoping Kid Cudi and his friends would be present when it happened.
The car threat allegation was mentioned in Ventura’s 2023 lawsuit against Combs, which referenced “Kid Cudi’s car exploded in his driveway.” Through a spokesperson, Kid Cudi told the New York Times that one of his cars did explode in early 2012. “This is all true,” the spokesperson said. A Los Angeles City Fire Department report from January 2012 said Kid Cudi’s Porsche was set on fire by an “incendiary device” and caused an estimated $10,000 in damages.
In a statement to Rolling Stone in September 2024, Combs’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said, “There is no allegation that Mr. Combs was involved in these actions or directed anyone else to take them. It’s clear the government doesn’t know who set fire to the vehicle or how it relates to Mr Combs, who denies any involvement.”
The indictment from last year that led to Combs’s arrest states he used arson to control victims.
Ventura said she ended her relationship with Kid Cudi in early 2012 because she felt there was “too much danger, too much uncertainty of what could happen if we continued to see each other.”
In the courtroom, Ventura testified that the three met at the Soho House after she broke up with Kid Cudi. She said asked, “What about my vehicle?” to which Combs replied, “What vehicle?”

Waiting for your favorite boomer shooter to get a sequel while currently enjoying the latest Doom game? No, it’s not 1993, because Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 has been officially revealed, and it looks to deliver on all the fast-paced action, bloody dismemberment, and incredibly mean taunts that fans expect.
Malum Caedo, the Space Marine who players controlled in the first game, will return for a sequel that promises to visit “never-before-seen locations in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.” Alongside returning enemies like Nurglings, newcomers like the Bloodletters and Juggernauts will also be trying their best to turn Caedo into a pile of giblets.
The trailer presented during Warhammer Skulls 2025 was relatively short but showed off Caedo blasting away a variety of enemies and slicing them to tiny pieces with his chainsword. If it’s half as good as the original game, it should be both a worthy homage to classic ’90s shooters and a must-play game for the franchise’s fans.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is scheduled to arrive in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, but developer Auroch Digital has something very different to keep fans happy until then.
Available now, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun – Words of Vengeance is essentially the 40,000 take on Typing of the Dead. Players have to type out words from the extensive Warhammer 40,000 lore to destroy enemies of the Emperor. The best part is it’s completely free, though because of its core gameplay, it’s only available on PC.

Anthropic, the Amazon-backed OpenAI rival, on Thursday launched its most powerful group of artificial intelligence models yet: Claude 4.
The company said the two models, called Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, are defining a “new standard” when it comes to AI agents and “can analyze thousands of data sources, execute long-running tasks, write human-quality content, and perform complex actions,” per a release.
Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI research executives, launched its Claude chatbot in March 2023. since then, it’s been part of the increasingly heated AI arms race taking place between startups and tech giants alike, a market that’s predicted to top $1 trillion in revenue within a decade.
Companies in seemingly every industry are rushing to add AI-powered chatbots and agents to avoid being left behind by competitors.
Anthropic stopped investing in chatbots at the end of last year and has instead focused on improving Claude’s ability to do complex tasks like research and coding, even writing whole code bases, according to Jared Kaplan, Anthropic’s chief science officer.
He also acknowledged that “the more complex the task is, the more risk there is that the model is going to kind of go off the rails … and we’re really focused on addressing that so that people can really delegate a lot of work at once to our models.”
“We’ve been training these models since last year and really anticipating them,” Kaplan said in an interview. “I think these models are much, much stronger as agents and as coders. It was definitely a struggle internally just because some of the new infrastructure we were using to train these models… made it very down-to-the-wire for the teams in terms of getting everything up and running.”

Kaplan added that once they tried to get the model testers to switch back off of the new models because they needed to iterate on them, no one wanted to give up access.
Anthropic said Claude Opus 4 was the “best coding model in the world” and could autonomously work for nearly a full corporate workday — seven hours.
Both models can search the web to complete tasks on a user’s behalf and alternate between reasoning and tool use, according to Anthropic. The company also said that when given access to local files, they can extract and save “key facts to maintain continuity and build tacit knowledge over time.”
“I do a lot of writing with Claude, and I think prior to Opus 4 and Sonnet 4, I was mostly using the models as a thinking partner, but still doing most of the writing myself,” Mike Krieger, Anthropic’s chief product officer, said in an interview. “And they’ve crossed this threshold where now most of my writing is actually … Opus mostly, and it now is unrecognizable from my writing.”
Krieger added, “I love that we’re kind of pushing the frontier on two sides. Like one is the coding piece and agentic behavior overall, and that’s powering a lot of these coding startups. … But then also, we’re pushing the frontier on how these models can actually learn from and then be a really useful writing partner, too.”
Anthropic’s annualized revenue reached $2 billion in the first quarter, the company confirmed last week, more than doubling from a $1 billion rate in the prior *******. Revenue chief Kate Jensen said in a recent interview with CNBC that the number of customers spending more than $100,000 annually with Anthropic jumped eightfold from a year ago.
Wall Street continues to pour money into AI startups like Anthropic: The company received a $2.5 billion, five-year revolving credit line last week to amp up its liquidity in an ever-expanding — and expensive — AI competition.
