I’ve reviewed two laptops running both Intel’s Arrow Lake-HX chipsets and Nvidia’s second-fastest Blackwell GPU, the GeForce RTX 5080. The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i and Asus ROG Strix SCAR 18 are both very impressive gaming laptops, but they’re also very expensive at over $3,000.
What if you want something that’s a little more affordable? That’s where the Asus ROG Strix G16 comes in, running AMD’s very fast Ryzen 9 9955HX3D chipset and Nvidia’s midrange RTX 5070 Ti. It’s fast as well, but it doesn’t have the outstanding displays of the other two and so it’s a bit harder to recommend even at its lower price.

The Asus web store still several ROG Strix G16 configurations as unavailable. The base model is $2,400 for an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX chipset, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU, and a 16.0-inch QHD+ IPS display. Opting for the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D chipset raises the price to $2,500. That’s the configuration that I reviewed, and both of those models are currently out of stock. The one configuration that can be purchased includes a slower AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX chipset and costs $2,000.
Those are okay prices for a very fast gaming laptop. You’ll compromise on the display, as we’ll see below, and the midrange GPU is a bit slower, but you’ll have to spend a lot more to get something faster.
Design
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
At first glance, the ROG Strix G16 bears a strong resemblance to the much larger Asus ROG Strix SCAR 18 that I previously reviewed. At least, it does if you focus on the per-key RGB backlighting on the keyboard and the row of RGB LEDs that light up the front of the laptop. Looking more closely at the rest of the chassis, though, the smaller machine has its own aesthetic. To begin with, it doesn’t have the Asus AniMe Vision LEDs on the lid, which is a lot simpler on the ROG Strix G16 with just a subdued logo. There’s aggressive geometric venting on the back, along with more vents along the sides. That makes the smaller laptop more minimalist in some ways, while also coming across with a slightly more aggressive gamer look.
The lid is offset a bit from the rear, as you’ll find in many larger laptops. Inset along the inside rear edge are a set of speakers and some anachronistic LEDs that show power and storage accesses. That’s unusual today and, really, I found the blinking light distracting. We’re really not so worried today about shutting down a laptop before data is written, compared to when we were relying on much slower spinning disks. Overall, I think the aesthetic is good for gamers, but anyone who’s looking for a less ostentatious design will want to consider something like the very MacBook-like Razer Blade 16.
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
The ROG Strix G16 is constructed of plastic in the external chassis and aluminum in the lid, which is fine. Interestingly, the lid is a little flexible, but the bottom chassis and keyboard deck are plenty stiff. Some users might prefer a more premium feel, as with the Razer Blade 16, but it’s not a significant concern. I suppose the plastic does keep the palm rests cooler than if they were aluminum, which is a plus.
Unsurprisingly, this is a very thick laptop at up to 1.2 inches, and it’s very heavy at 5.51 pounds. The top and side display bezels are thin, but the bottom chin is quite large. That makes the ROG Strix G16 a very large laptop in all dimensions. It’s a bit to carry around, especially when you include the very large power brick.
Of course, Asus built in a robust cooling system. There’s Asus’s Tri-Fan technology, full-width heatsink and Condoctonaut Extreme liquid metal. Combined with the copious venting, the laptop is able to keep the internals reasonably cool with some serious fan noise when the laptop is working particularly hard.
Keyboard and touchpad
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
Unlike many gaming laptops, the ROG Strix G16’s version doesn’t have a numeric keypad. That’s a strange omission given that many gamers like to bind those keys to macros. It does make for a more spacious keyboard for non-gamers, with large keycaps and springy switches that make for comfortable typing. With other gaming laptops, I typically say that it’s a great keyboard for gamers but not for writers. The opposite is true here, which might not be the best choice given the laptop’s intended target.
The touchpad is okay, being a large enough mechanical version. It’s better than the touchpad on the ROG Strix SCAR 18, which had buttons that were hard to reliably engage. This one’s fine, but I suspect most gamers will choose to use a dedicated gaming mouse.
Connectivity and webcam
Large, 16-inch laptops that are this thick and heavy typically have a lot of connectivity. The ROG Strix G16 is good enough, with a couple of fast USB4 ports to go with a selection of legacy ports. There’s an Ethernet port for anyone who wants to connect directly to a router and avoid wireless latency. It’s not the most connectivity I’ve seen in a gaming laptop, but it’s fine. The wireless connectivity is one generation behind, which might disappoint some users.
The webcam is okay at 1080p, which is the new baseline. Videoconferencing clearly isn’t a focus of this machine, but it’s serviceable. There’s no fingerprint reader or infrared camera, so you’ll be limited to typing in a PIN to login.
Performance
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
So far, I’ve reviewed a couple of gaming laptops with the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX chipset, the latest high-end part that’s aimed at gaming and other performance-intensive tasks. But it’s not alone. There’s also the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which is perhaps even faster for gamers thanks to several unique features. To begin with, the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is a 16-core/32-thread part built on the Zen 5 architecture. That compares to the Core Ultra 9 275HX that has more cores at 24 but is single-threaded. Both run at up to 5.8GHz, and both consume 55 watts of base power with the AMD chipset bursting to 130 watts and the Intel chipset up to 160 watts. The CPU can get up to 110 watts and the GPU can get up to 140 watts, but in total, the ROG Strix G16 maxes out at 195 watts. That’s considerably less than the 250 watts the ROG Strix SCAR 18 can provide.
The Ryzen 9 55HX3D’s hyper threading optimizes parallel tasks, while the 3D V-Cache architecture reduces memory latency and thus boosts gaming performance. That’s particularly true at 1080p, but 3D V-Cache makes the AMD chipset faster at gaming across the board. It also performs well in various CPU-intensive tasks, but the Core ultra 9 275HX is faster overall thanks to its higher core count.
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
In our suite of non-gaming benchmarks, the ROG Strix G16 fell behind the Asus ROG Strix SCAR 18 and Lenovo Legion Pro 7i running the Intel chipset. Single-core speeds are similar, while multi-core tasks favor the Intel-based laptops. Interestingly, the ROG Strix G16 was faster in the Pugetbench for Photoshop benchmark, that runs in a live version of Adobe’s application. That attests to the impact of the CPU in photo editing tasks where the slower RTX 5070 Ti wasn’t as important. In the Pugetbench for Premiere Pro benchmark, however, the ROG Strix G16 fell behind. In video editing, the faster GPU is more of an advantage.
If you care about non-gaming performance, then, the ROG Strix G16 won’t be quite as fast. But it will still be very fast, particularly for photo editors, making it a solid choice.

Gaming
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
In terms of its gaming performance, the ROG Strix G16 made a strong showing. While its Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti naturally fell behind the RTX 5080 in the other two gaming machines, it still performed admirably. Probably, the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D helped out here, balancing the drop in GPU performance with an overall boost from the AMD chipset. As I’ve noted in those other reviews, the Nvidia Blackwell 5000-series GPUs are aimed more at improving image quality via AI-powered processes like DLSS 4, upscaling, and frame generation. There’s something of an uptick in framerates compared to the previous generation, but it’s not remarkable — at least with the current state of drivers and game optimizations.
Asus includes the same Armoury Crate utility as in the larger machine, and it provides the same fine control over various CPU and GPU settings. I ran each benchmark in various performance modes, and I reported the results in the fastest Turbo mode. I also tried out the option to optimize the GPU, but I didn’t find that setting to make a difference. In fact, some scores were reduced, so I kept it at the default setting for most of these tests. If you want to optimize the laptop for various uses, Armoury Crate provides most of the settings you’ll require.
In terms of performance, we’ll start with the 3DMark Time Spy synthetic benchmark. Here, the ROG Strix G16 is much faster than the MSI Creator Z17 HX Studio running the RTX 4070, again likely benefiting as well from the much faster AMD chipset. It’s behind the two other modern laptops, but it’s faster than the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 6 with an RTX 4080 and closer Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 with the RTX 4090.
Looking at the individual titles we use due to their built-in (and therefore more objective) real-world benchmarks, the ROG Strix G16 performs very well. It benefits from its fast CPU in the Civilization VI test running at 1600p Ultra, beating out every previous-generation laptop in our comparison group. The same holds true in Cyperbunk 2077 at 1600p Ultra RT (ray tracing), Red Dead Redemption 1600p Ultra, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla 1600p Ultra High.
Ultimately, you can game at 1440p or better on the ROG Strix G16 with graphics turned up, and if a title supports Blackwell, you’ll enjoy incredible image quality as well.

Battery life
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
There’s a 90-watt battery packed away inside the ROG Strix G16, and that’s only a little smaller than some that offer the maximum that can be put into a laptop — 100 watts. There’s a high-res IPS display and very powerful components, so I wasn’t expecting great battery life.
In our suite of battery tests, the ROG Strix G16 lasted for 4.75 hours in our web browsing test and five hours in our video looping test. In our most demanding test, looping the Cinebench R24 multi-core test, the laptop couldn’t quite hit two hours. Those are actually better results than many gaming laptops that barely make it to two hours. It means that you can get some work done without being plugged in, but you’ll want to run with the power brick connected when gaming or doing serious creative work.
Display and audio
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
The ROG Strix G16 is built around a 16.0-inch 16:10 QHD+ (2560 x 1600) IPS display that runs at up to 240Hz. Subjectively, it looks fine, although it’s a significant drop down after reviewing the spectacular mini-LED display on the ROG Strix SCAR 18. It’s not as bright and the colors aren’t as dynamic.
According to the Datacolor SpyderPro colorimeter I use to evaluate displays, this one’s a mixed bag. First, it’s not very bright at just 248 nits — one of the few displays I’ve reviewed in the last couple of years that fails to hit our 300-nit baseline. That’s going to limit its effectiveness in running HDR content (which, although the specs indicate Dolby Vision support, can’t actually be switched on in Windows Settings). Contrast is very good for IPS, though, at 1,600:1. Colors are wide at 100% of sRGB, 89% of AdobeRGB, and 100% of DCI-P3, well above the IPS average. But, they’re not very accurate at a DeltaE of 3.79. Most IPS displays today come in at less than 2.0. And, unusually, the gamma is way off at 3.0, which is a lot darker than the optimal 2.2 gamma.
Overall, this isn’t a terribly impressive display. In fact, I’d say It’s one of the compromises you’ll make to squeeze in so much power at well under $3,000.
Mark Coppock / Digital Trends
The audio is just okay, with four speakers including two woofers. But as with the keyboard and touchpad, you’ll probably want to consider plugging something in.
Less money, less performance, a lesser display
The ROG Strix G16 is plenty fast for most gamers, with the AMD chipset and Nvidia midrange GPU providing a real boost for modern titles. They’ll look good, as well, with support for Blackwell’s various AI-driven features. And the laptop has a good gaming aesthetic and a solid enough build.
But, the display disappoints a bit, even at the $2,500 price. It should be brighter and the colors should be more accurate, the latter weakness limiting the ROG Strix G16’s usefulness to the creators who would also appreciate the laptop’s speed.

Why Doesn’t Elden Ring Nightreign Have Two-Player Co-Op? The Reason May Surprise You
Elden Ring Nightreign launches later this month, and it supports solo play and multiplayer for groups of three. But it’s not possible to play with just two people together. Why is that?
Game director Junya Ishizaki told IGN that developer From Software simply “overlooked” this possibility during development. “So we’re very sorry about that,” he said.

Now Playing: ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN | GUARDIAN Character Gameplay Trailer
Ishizaki explained that Nightreign is balanced for people to play solo or with groups of three. With From Software spending so much time and attention trying to nail the experience for solo and three-player co-op, this meant two-player co-op wasn’t considered.
“In putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect,” Ishizaki said.
Ishizaki explained that two-player co-op is “something we are looking at and considering” for a post-launch update. Nothing is confirmed, however.
Also in the interview, Ishizaki discussed taking over the reins from Hidetaka Miyazaki to become the game director on Nightreign and revealed the advice that Miyazaki gave him.
Nightreign launches May 30 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC for $40. It’s a standalone spin-off developed by From Software, following the gigantic success of Elden Ring.

Oscar Piastri: Get to know maybe the coolest, calmest Formula 1 driver in history
Oscar Piastri: Get to know maybe the coolest, calmest Formula 1 driver in history
What impresses about Piastri in battle is the preciseness. He doesn’t waste energy. He doesn’t go for a move that’s not on, or try a half move that is not going to come off. He waits, and pounces when the moment is just right.
“I learned pretty early on in my career that normally when you do things half-heartedly in a race car, that’s normally when things go wrong,” he says.
“Whether that’s pushing on a qualifying lap or especially overtaking someone, normally actually the best way to not get yourself in trouble is by just committing to things.
“That’s obviously a bit of a mental hurdle to get over, but I feel like once I got over that in my karting days, then it’s been more or less a strength of mine ever since.”
The racing skills have been apparent in Piastri from the start in F1. Where he has stepped it up this season is in his outright performance.
Last year, Norris was unquestionably McLaren’s lead driver, the one usually taking the fight to Verstappen. Piastri beat the Briton only four times in qualifying in the whole season, and his average lap-time deficit to his team-mate was 0.147 seconds.
This season, the score is 6-3 in Piastri’s favour over all qualifying sessions, including the sprints, and now the average time advantage is 0.146secs for him.
This is the foundation for his four wins, to Verstappen’s two and Norris’ one.
How has he turned things around so effectively?
“The team’s done a great job with the car,” Piastri says. “And the team’s also done a great job with myself. That part goes both ways. We’ve found gains in every area. The driver being one of them.
“Just trying to chase performance in every category, basically.
“Last year what was hampering me was my qualifying performances, which I think ultimately came down to a slight lack of pace overall. And going about trying to find that pace has been definitely a challenging exercise, but obviously a very worthwhile one.”
The answer, he says, has been “trying to just find the last couple of hundredths (of a second) in every category you can. And they all add up.
“The first place you look at is obviously the driving and the data, and no two people will drive in an identical way. But normally there’s some traits from one driver that are better than the other. And some from another that are better than your team-mate’s.
“So Lando has obviously been a great reference for that, being very, very quick the whole time we’ve been together.
“I am maybe a faster driver. But I don’t think it’s because I can now do things that I couldn’t do before. It’s just that I’m able to tie it together a lot more.
“You work on the technical aspects of driving. Whether it’s how you brake and turn, how you apply your steering lock. It’s quite hard to teach yourself to drive un-instinctively, but it is possible.”

A history of the coin
A history of the coin
00:00 Speaker A
The US Treasury Department is officially phasing out the penny. The Treasury made its final order of penny blanks and will cease production once those blanks have been used. Back in February, President Trump announced his intentions to remove the penny from circulation, writing, “This is so wasteful,” on Truth Social. Americans can still use any pennies that they already have in their possession, but according to the Treasury spokesperson, demand for the coins is shrinking and there are already 114 billion in circulation. The number of new pennies has been on the decline for the past several years, with 3.2 billion new pennies produced in 2024. Businesses will soon need to adjust prices to the nearest 5 cents as fewer pennies become available. According to a US Treasury spokesperson, the move is expected to save at least $56 million per year, with more savings to come. It costs just under 4 cents to produce each penny, to the tune of $85 million in losses for the government last year. And according to waste management company Reworld, Americans throw away $68 million in coins each year. The penny dates back to the founding of the US Mint in 1792. It was originally made of pure copper, but was mixed with nickel starting in 1857. President Abraham Lincoln’s profile became the first real person to be featured on a US coin starting in 1909. And now, the coin’s tenure is coming to an end after over 230 years.

Your information was probably stolen again: Researcher discovers 184 million stolen logins
Sora Shimazaki / Pexels
In another stark reminder of the constant threats online, cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler recently uncovered a massive, unsecured database containing over 184 million login credentials from Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Discord, Google, PayPal and others. The trove amounted to approximately 47.42 GB of data, was discovered on a misconfigured cloud server and is believed to have been amassed using infostealer malware – malicious software designed to extract sensitive information from compromised devices.
A global breach with far-Reaching implications
According to Jeremiah, the database also contained over 220 email addresses associated with government domains from at least 29 countries, such as the United Stated, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. The breadth underscores the potential national security risks posed by such breaches.
Fowlers analysis of a 10,000-record sample revealed that the data included plaintext usernames and passwords, with some entries linked to financial terms like “bank” and “wallet,” indicating a heightened risk of financial fraud. The presence of such sensitive information in an unprotected database amplifies concerns about identity theft, unauthorized access and other malicious activities. Hackread.com has some images from the database provided by Jeremiah.
The role of infostealer malware
Infostealer malware operates by infiltrating devices through phishing emails, malicious websites, or comes bundled with pirated software. Once installed, it can harvest a variety of data, including login credentials, cookies, autofill information and even cryptocurrency wallet details. The data is then transmitted to command-and-control servers operated by cybercriminals.
The discovery of this database suggests a coordinated effort to collect and potentially exploit vast amounts of personal and institutional data. The lack of identifiable ownership or metadata within the database further complicates efforts to trace its origins or intended use. Hosting companies likely do not know that they are fostering these databases to begin with.
Immediate actions and recommendations
Upon discovering the database, Fowler promptly notified the hosting provider, World Host Group, which subsequently took the server offline. However, the duration for which the data remained exposed and wither it was accessed by unauthorized parties before its removal remains uncertain.
I would advise users to:
Change your passwords, yet again: Immediately update your passwords for all online accounts, especially if the same passwords are being re-used across multiple platforms
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): This generally requires a text verification code to your phone, or a secondary email address
Monitor your accounts: Regularly check your financial accounts and other sensitive accounts for suspicious activity
Use reputable security software: Anti-virus and malware software from reputable companies usually help, make sure they are updated. You can check out our antivirus and malware reviews
Be cautious with emails and downloads: Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading attachments from unknown sources

N.Y. Rep. Andrew Garbarino slept through “big, beautiful bill” vote that passed by just 1 vote, speaker says
N.Y. Rep. Andrew Garbarino slept through “big, beautiful bill” vote that passed by just 1 vote, speaker says
The House passed President Trump’s domestic policy bill, dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, by just one vote in the early morning hours Thursday after an all-night session.
The vote was that close in part because Rep. Andrew Garbarino, a New York Republican who would’ve voted to support it, was asleep at the time, House Speaker Mike Johnson said.
“Andrew Garbarino did not make it in time. He fell asleep in the back. No kidding, I know. I’m going to just strangle him, but then, he’s my dear friend,” Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, said in a press conference.
Garbarino, who represents New York’s 2nd District on Long Island, did not deny being asleep.
“I am proud to have been the leading voice on Long Island during negotiations on this key reconciliation bill. I fought to lift the cap on SALT and ensure hardworking Long Island families see the benefits of this important legislation. I was moments away from the House floor, to vote ‘yes,’ when the vote was closed. While I am frustrated that the vote was closed before I was able to cast my vote, I am proud of the work we accomplished to deliver huge results for Long Island,” Garbarino said in a statement.
As part of the bill, the cap on federal deductions for state and local taxes, or SALT, would be lifted from $10,000 to $40,000 per household for incomes up to $500,000. The issue was a key part of negotiations, with blue-state Republicans like Garbarino pressing for a hike to the cap, which was put in place during Mr. Trump’s first term.
Republican Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona also didn’t vote on the bill. Johnson said he “was going to vote and slipped his card in right at the last minute.”
The measure passed the house in a 215-214 vote. Every Democrat opposed it, while two Republicans voted no and a third voted present.
“It was really 217, okay?” Johnson joked after the vote, citing Schweikert and Garbarino.
Johnson praised Garbarino on social media Thursday, saying he “played an essential role in negotiations … and is a primary reason we were able to secure the deal which allowed us to pass our nation-shaping legislation this morning. Andrew is highly regarded by me and all our Members as one of the most trusted, reliable, and talented colleagues in the House, and if it were not for his unique contributions and tireless efforts, we simply would not have achieved what we have in this Congress.”
The measure now heads to the Senate, where its fate is unclear as some Republicans have expressed skepticism.

Aid Finally Arrives in Gaza After Two-Month Israeli BlockadeThe United Nations said about 90 truckloads of aid had entered Gaza by Thursday, the first major delivery of food that Israel has allowed in after a two-month blockade that caused widespread hunger and deepened the humanitarian crisis.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is in dire condition. What we need to do is to continue to bring humanitarian aid, advocate for the crossings to be opened and make sure that the food goes to the ones mostly in need. What we brought is definitely not enough, but we hope that the borders will remain open and will be able to bring more aid into Gaza.

Save On Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie’s Stellar 4K Remaster At Amazon
Save On Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie’s Stellar 4K Remaster At Amazon
Street Fighter fans can get a couple of nice deals on the franchise’s 1994 film adaptations at Amazon. Most notably, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie–otherwise known as the only good Street Fighter adaptation–is up for grabs on 4K Blu-ray for $23.90. Meanwhile, Street Fighter: The Movie’s Steelbook Edition Blu-ray is discounted to $25 (was $35).
While you’re checking out the Blu-ray movie offers, you can also snag a preorder for Street Fighter: The Animated Series on Blu-ray ahead of its release next Tuesday, May 27. A new Street Fighter live-action adaptation has been in the works for a few years now, and we just learned of a few big names who could star in the upcoming film.
You can take a closer look at the Street Fighter Blu-rays below. Longtime fans of the video games should also check out Amazon’s deal on the recently released, revised edition of the Street Fighter World Warrior Encyclopedia.
$23.89 (was $35)
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie’s 4K Blu-ray remaster was produced by Discotek Media and launched in 2023 with a $35 list price. Despite being over 30 years old at this point, Street Fighter II’s animation still looks great, and the 4K enhancements are superb. In addition to the visual improvements offered by 2160p resolution and HDR10, the release has a wide assortment of audio options and enhancements, including DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, the PG-13 North American audio, unrated *** audio, and original Japanese audio with subtitles.
You’ll also get an assortment of special features on the disc, including production art and liner notes.
Street Fighter II: The Movie Features
Native 4K (2160p) remaster based on original camera negative
HDR10
Original aspect ratio (1.85:1)
DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 (English)
DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (Japanese)
Remastered audio tracks (US and ***): PG-13 (US) and unrated (***)
Original Japanese audio with subtitles
English version opening and closing credits
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie – Japanese game footage
Trailers and commercials
Isolated score
Production art
Liner notes
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie debuted in Japan in August 1994 before releasing in theaters across the US, Europe, and Australia. It proved to be a huge success, earning nearly five times its production budget at the box office.
$25 (was $35)
The live-action adaptation of Street Fighter II released in US theaters in December 1994, just a few months after the animated movie’s debut. While once again a box office hit–it earned roughly three times its budget–the Jean-Claude Van Damme-led movie received rather terrible reviews. Even today, it holds a 20% user rating average on Rotten Tomatoes and 11% on the Tomatometer.
Van Damme starred opposite Raul Julia in the actor’s final role, and Julia’s performance as General M. Bison was arguably the best aspect of what is otherwise a movie with underwhelming action sequences, cringey dialogue, and bizarre story beats.
That said, it’s still interesting to watch the live-action adaptation alongside the superior animated film as a double feature. And if you’re a Street Fighter fan who wants a cool collectible, Street Fighter: The Movie’s Steelbook Edition Blu-ray is available at Amazon for $25 (was $35).
Along with the nice steelbook case, this edition comes with a General Bison replica $100 bill, a transparent sleeve with the movie’s logo, and numerous extras, including interviews with the cast and archival content.
$40 | Releases May 27
Following the commercial success of both films, Street Fighter set its sights on television screens the following year. Street Fighter: The Animated Series, unfortunately, didn’t reach the same heights as the animated movie. That’s a generous description, as both of the show’s two seasons were quite bad.
Still, given the superb quality of Discotek’s Street Fighter II physical release, the upcoming launch of Street Fighter: The Animated Series on Blu-ray is noteworthy. You can preorder Street Fighter: The Animated Series on Blu-ray for $40 ahead of its May 27 release.
It should be emphasized that this is a standard definition Blu-ray release, not a complete restoration/remaster. That means all 26 episodes are displayed in their original 4:3 aspect ratio.
One cool feature with the Blu-ray release is the optional audio commentaries you can listen to while watching each episode. Each commentary track is narrated by a Youtuber who specializes in fighting games. Here’s the full list of special features.
Street Fighter: The Animated Series Special Features
Commentary tracks for each episode hosted by Matt McMuscles with FGC guest stars Brady, Maximillian Dood, Justin Wong, Arin “Egoraptor” Hanson, Alexis Le, Lythero, and Guile Win Quote.

FBI probes post after Israeli embassy aides killings
FBI probes post after Israeli embassy aides killings
FBI and police investigators have pored over apparent writings and political affiliations of a man arrested as the lone suspect in the fatal shooting of a pair of Israel embassy aides outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC.
Chicago-born suspect Elias Rodriguez, 30, is accused of opening fire on a group of people on Wednesday night as they left an event for young diplomats hosted by the American Jewish Committee, an advocacy group that supports Israel and confronts anti-Semitism, according to its website.
Officials said he was heard chanting “Free Palestine” after he was taken into custody.
The two victims struck by gunfire and killed were identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, a young couple about to become engaged to be married.
Friends and members of advocacy groups they belonged to said the pair were committed to building bridges between Arabs and Jews in hopes of ending bloodshed in the Middle East.
After the shooting, Israeli embassies around the world immediately stepped up security.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino posted on social media that investigators were “aware of certain writings allegedly authored by the suspect” and hoped to soon have updates regarding their authenticity.
Bongino’s statement appeared to refer to a manifesto signed with Rodriguez’s name that was posted to an anonymous X account on Wednesday night shortly before the shooting.
Posted with the title “Escalate For Gaza, Bring The War Home,” it condemned Israel’s killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians since the October 2023 ****** attacks and discussed the morality of “armed” action.
“In the wake of an act people look for a text to fix its meaning so here’s an attempt,” the document read.
“The atrocities committed by Israelis against Palestine defy description and defy quantification.”
FBI Director Kash Patel called the bloodshed an “act of terror,” although US Attorney General Pam Bondi told reporters that authorities believe the suspect acted alone.
Israel has faced sustained international condemnation for its escalating military offensive in the Gaza Strip while Jewish advocacy groups have warned of a rise in anti-Semitic incidents globally.
Investigators also delved into apparent political affiliations of the suspect, who worked for a healthcare nonprofit and was believed to have had past ties to leftist extremist groups.
According to an account by Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith, a man shot at a group of four people with a handgun, hitting both the victims.
He was seen pacing outside the museum prior to the shooting, little more than 2km from the White House.
“Once in handcuffs, the suspect identified where he discarded the weapon, and that weapon has been recovered, and he implied that he committed the offence,” Smith said, adding that he had had no previous contact with police.
FBI agents were seen at his apartment in Chicago on Thursday, where law enforcement blocked off the street.
Witness Katie Kalisher, 29, said she was among people in the museum who were chatting to a man who entered looking very scared after gunshots were heard outside when he suddenly pulled out a keffiyeh scarf.
“He says, ‘I did it. I did it for Gaza, free, free Palestine.’ And he’s chanting this. And then suddenly the police come in and they arrest him,” said Kalisher, a jewellery designer.
Rodriguez was once affiliated with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, according to a post from the group on X.
The group said that Rodriguez had a brief association with a PSL branch that ended in 2017 and that they knew of no contact with him in more than seven years.
“We have nothing to do with this shooting and do not support it,” the organisation said.

Peru court rules in favor of Kichwa territorial rights in the Amazon
Peru court rules in favor of Kichwa territorial rights in the Amazon
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Peru’s top court has issued a landmark ruling recognizing the territorial rights of the Kichwa people within a protected area in the Amazon — marking a major breakthrough for Indigenous land claims.
The decision affirms that Indigenous stewardship is fully compatible with conservation goals, setting a powerful precedent for rights-based forest protection in Peru, according to the Kichwa people and lawyers involved in the case.
The ruling, issued on May 15 but made public on Wednesday, came after a legal challenge by four Indigenous organizations on behalf of Kichwa communities in the San Martín region. The communities say the state denied their ancestral presence for decades, creating protected areas without consultation or consent.
“The ruling validates their historical presence and their right to demand respect for those territories,” Cristina Gavancho, legal adviser to the plaintiff organizations, told The Associated Press on Thursday. “It recognizes that in doing so, they not only contribute to conservation but must be involved in any state-led measures to implement it.”
Environmentalists say the case could reshape how Peru approaches forest protection, especially in contested areas like Cordillera Azul National Park — home to one of the world’s largest forest carbon offsetting projects.
SERNANP, the Peruvian government agency responsible for protected natural areas, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Gavancho said that the ruling could have global relevance, as it reinforces growing international recognition of the role Indigenous peoples play in conservation. She noted the decision aligns with international biodiversity targets and signals a shift away from top-down conservation models.
“Conservation isn’t just about creating protected areas — it’s also about recognizing and protecting Indigenous territorial rights,” she said.
Wiler Saurin, vice president of the Indigenous coalition CODEPISAM in Peru’s San Martín region, said that the ruling is a major victory in the long struggle for recognition of ancestral lands. He emphasized that protected areas in San Martín were established without free, prior and informed consent from the Kichwa, Shawi, and Awajun peoples.
Saurin, from the Kichwa community, told the AP by telephone that the court decision affirms Indigenous territorial rights and underscores that conservation can’t happen without Indigenous inclusion.
“You can’t do conservation from a desk, you can’t do conservation from an office earning a good salary — it has to be done by working with the communities who have ancestrally occupied these territories,” he said.

What’s in Trump’s House-passed “one big, beautiful bill”
What’s in Trump’s House-passed “one big, beautiful bill”
Washington — House Republicans made a number of last-minute changes to the legislation containing President Trump’s second-term agenda in order to win over opposing factions in the GOP. And, after an all-night session, the measure, entitled the “one big, beautiful bill,” squeaked through by a single vote.
It’ll now go to the Senate, which will leave its own mark on the bill. But here’s what’s in the legislation that was passed by the House Thursday.
Tax cuts and extensions
At the center of the legislation — and accounting for its biggest expense — are the provisions extending Mr. Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. With the cuts slated to sunset at year’s end, the extension and new tax cuts have been a key priority for congressional Republicans and the White House.
Beyond the 2017 tax cuts, the legislation includes a number of tax cuts that the president touted on the campaign trail. It includes no taxes on tips for workers in the service industry, like those who work at restaurants and bars, as well as people who work in the beauty industry. But it’s a temporary exemption that expires at the end of 2028. The package also includes no taxes on overtime through 2028. And the new legislation would allow tax deductions on up to $10,000 in interest on auto loans for cars assembled in the U.S. This provision would be in place until 2029.
The bill would also eliminate a longstanding $200 tax on gun silencers, which has been on the books since Congress passed the National Firearms Act in 1934.
And among the bill’s provisions is a temporary $500 increase in the child tax credit, bringing it to $2,500 through 2028.
The package also includes a tax on remittances, imposing a tax on cash payments sent by non-U.S. citizens to family members in their home countries. Though the bill initially would have subjected individuals to a 5% excise tax, the managers amendment, which contained the updates to the bill, lowered the tax to 3.5%.
Medicaid restrictions
The legislation includes changes to Medicaid, a popular entitlement program that provides government-sponsored health care for low-income Americans — imposing work requirements for able-bodied adults without children, more frequent eligibility checks, cutting federal funds to states that use Medicaid infrastructure to provide health care coverage to undocumented immigrants and banning Medicaid from covering gender transition services for children and adults.
The amendment speeds up the implementation of the work requirements from Jan. 1, 2029, to no later than Dec. 31, 2026, a change sought by hardliners. The work requirements would apply to Medicaid recipients without disabilities between the ages of 18 and 65, and those who do not have a child under the age of 7.
Increasing the State and Local Tax Deduction, or SALT
Also included in the package is an increase to the cap on the State and Local Tax Deduction, which was imposed by the 2017 Trump tax law and currently stands at $10,000.
Before the rule, taxpayers could deduct all their state and local taxes from their federal taxes, which some policymakers have said mainly benefits wealthy homeowners in states with high taxes, such as New York and California. But advocates for increasing the caps argue that the $10,000 cap is increasingly impacting middle-class homeowners who live in regions where property taxes are rising.
The package initially included a $30,000 cap, but blue-state Republicans threatened to withhold their support, and they ultimately reached an agreement with leadership to increase the deduction to $40,000 per household for incomes up to $500,000.
Border security funding
Though the bulk of the funding allocated in the legislation goes toward tax cuts, it also includes resources for border security and defense. Among the bill’s provisions is $46.5 billion for the border wall, $4.1 billion to hire Border Patrol agents and other personnel and more than $2 billion for signing and retention bonuses for Border Patrol agents. It also includes an additional $1,000 fee for people who are filing for asylum in the U.S.
The amendment to the legislation added an additional $12 billion for expenses related to border security.
$1,000 “Trump accounts” for child savings
The legislation also creates $1,000 savings accounts for children, which were originally titled “MAGA accounts” — Money Accounts for Growth and Advancement. The name has been updated to “Trump accounts.” Under the plan, the federal government will contribute $1,000 to the accounts of children born between 2024 and 2028. Parents can contribute up to $5,000 a year. The funds, which can begin to be distributed once the child turns 18, can be used for higher education, job training and the purchase of their first home.
While income on the accounts can grow on a tax-deferred basis, distributions for qualified expenses, like those mentioned above, would be taxed at a long-term capital gains rate. Another type of education savings vehicle, 529 accounts, enables parents to save and grow the accounts on a tax-deferred basis, too, but the money can be withdrawn for specific education-related expenses tax-free.
Restrictions on food stamps
The package also raises the upper age requirement for able-bodied adults without children to qualify for benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, or food stamps. Currently, in order to qualify, able-bodied adults between 18-54 must meet work requirements. The House bill would update the age requirement to 18-64 and would also shift more of the costs to states.
Rolling back clean energy programs
The bill would also roll back some of the clean energy tax credits under the Biden-era climate and health care law, like an earlier phasing out of a tax break for clean energy vehicles. A late addition to the bill would move up the timeline to end tax credits for new renewable energy power plants as well, requiring them to begin construction within 60 days of the enactment of the legislation and be in service by the end of 2028. The measure makes an exception for nuclear plants, which must be under construction by the end of 2028.
Addressing the debt limit
With a major deadline to address the debt limit on the horizon, the legislation would raise the debt ceiling by $4 trillion.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged Congress to address the debt limit by mid July, warning that the U.S. could be unable to pay its bills as soon as August without action. Congressional Republicans added the debt ceiling to the larger budget package to bypass negotiating with Democrats on the issue, since the budget legislation can move forward in the Senate without support from across the aisle.

“I realized that I would need the resolve to see it through to completion or see it through to the end,” he explained.
As for the advice that Miyazaki gave him, Ishizaki said Miyazaki and other directors at From Software informed him that he “shouldn’t hold back.”
“So, on the day-to-day process of making games, something that maybe I would’ve given a pass to would not get through so easily as director,” he said. “I’d have to be a bit more critical, put a bit more discipline on myself to really take a good look at these things and decide the best way forward for the whole project.”
Nightreign is a roguelike-ish spin-off developed by From Software, taking players to Limveld where they will square off against a range of new enemies. For more, check out GameSpot’s rundown of everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign, which releases on May 30, starting at $40.

A cybersecurity stock can run even as valuation soars, strategist says
Despite a weak day for stock in BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings on Thursday, Freedom Capital Markets chief global strategist Jay Woods is sticking by the company after a better-than-expected first-quarter print. Woods discussed the wholesaler and his bullish views on Uber and Palo Alto Networks on CNBC’s ” Power Lunch ” on Thursday. BJ’s Wholesale Club Shares pulled back roughly 2% on Thursday after BJ’s told investors on its first-quarter earnings call that the effect of tariffs may force the chain to eventually raise prices. The company still reiterated its full-year outlook, which was part of the reason Woods is not taking Thursday’s post-earnings stock move as cause for concern. BJ YTD mountain BJ’s Wholesale Club stock in 2025. “They’re caught in this conundrum [of] are we raising prices on the consumer, [or] are we gonna mention tariffs in our guide?” Woods said. “I don’t like the price action we’re seeing today, but I think it gives the longer-term investor an opportunity,” he said. Shares have surged nearly 30% so far in 2025. Uber Technologies Woods named Uber his favorite long-term stock, and said any notion that Tesla could pose a competitive threat to the ride sharing company is exaggerated. Uver added about 4% on Thursday. Last week, Uber announced plans to extend its partnership with Alphabet -owned Waymo to offer autonomous ridesharing in Atlanta . “We’re not sure where to [categorize] this,” he said. “A lot of people are afraid that Tesla is gonna come and hurt their margins, but no. They’ve been acting on all cylinders,” Woods said. UBER YTD mountain Uber stock in 2025. “Any pullback to $80 [per share] I want to buy … the risk to reward setup is great,” he added. Shares have slumped about 14% in 2025. Palo Alto Networks While Palo Alto’s valuation may look “a little extreme,” Woods suggested buying any future dips in the cybersecurity provider. Shares currently trades at roughly 57 times price-to-earnings ratio, compared to about 21 times for the S & P 500. Shares gained more than 3% on Thursday. The company’s fiscal third-quarter results surpassed analyst estimates on the top and bottom line earlier this week, while gross margin missed estimates. Palo Alto also forecast better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings compared to Wall Street consensus estimates. PANW YTD mountain Palo Alto Networks stock in 2025. “For a short-term trade, I think you’re gonna get a little more of a bounce out of this stock,” Woods said. “Long-term, it will probably rally into next earnings and we’ll see where we go.”

Boris Johnson wanted authoritarian Covid rules, inquiry hears
Boris Johnson wanted authoritarian Covid rules, inquiry hears
PA Media
Lord Patrick Vallance, former government chief scientific adviser, gave evidence to the inquiry in west London
Boris Johnson pushed for a more “ruthless, authoritarian approach” towards people who refused to self-isolate during the pandemic, the ***’s former scientific adviser has told the Covid inquiry.
The instinct of policy makers was to favour “punitive measures” over financial support, according to Lord Patrick Vallance who spoke to the PM throughout the crisis and appeared alongside him on TV briefings.
Diary entries written by Lord Vallance during that time revealed officials “always want[ed] to go for stick, not carrot”.
Lord Vallance has said his diary entries were informal personal reflections and “late night musings”, never intended for publication.
PA Media
Staff hand out testing kits to people in cars in Southwark, London on 16 September 2020.
He was giving evidence to the sixth part of the Covid inquiry, which is investigating test, trace and quarantine policies.
During 90 minutes of questioning, he was shown a series of entries from his evening diaries from the first year of the pandemic.
On 12 August 2020, he wrote about a meeting with the prime minister and his senior aides, including then chief adviser Dominic Cummings and cabinet secretary Simon Case.
“Instinct of this crew is to go for more enforcement and punitive measures,” he wrote.
“We suggested more carrot and incentives [were] required to make people take a test, self-isolate etc, but they always want to go for stick not carrot.”
Asked who he was referring to in that entry, Lord Vallance said it would have been the “decision-makers for policy”.
In another entry, on 25 September 2020, as Covid cases were rising once again, he quoted Boris Johnson as saying: “We need a lot more punishments and a lot more closing down”.
And in a further entry on 7 January 2021, just after the start of the third nationwide lockdown, he wrote: “PM says: ‘We haven’t been ruthless enough. We need to force more isolation. I favour a more authoritarian approach.'”
However, he also added: “Rather late in the day, the PM is understanding that incentives (or removal of disincentives) need to be in place to help people.”
On 28 September 2020, ministers introduced a legal duty for those who had tested positive for Covid or were contacted by the test-and-trace service to self-isolate in England. It was announced that fines of between £1,000 and £10,000 would be imposed on repeat offenders.
Test-and-trace support payments of £500 were also offered for those on lower incomes.
Sir Patrick said it was “important to remember” the purpose of mass testing was to identify potentially infectious individuals who could self-isolate and “if isolation isn’t happening, then testing isn’t really doing what it’s supposed to be doing”.
When the new rules were introduced, Boris Johnson said the public needed to do “all it could to control the spread of the virus” and prevent the most vulnerable from becoming infected.
PA Media
Earlier, Matt Hancock told the inquiry it was “crucial” the *** should retain its ability to rapidly scale-up mass testing for a new disease in any future pandemic.
The former health secretary said he was concerned the testing system set up in 2020 was now being dismantled, making it much harder to respond.
“The critical thing is that we absolutely must, as a nation, be ready to radically expand capacity once a test is developed,” he said. “We were not last time.”
Asymptomatic infections
Mr Hancock was asked about a letter he was sent, on 14 April 2020, by two Nobel prize winning scientists, Sir Paul Nurse and Sir Peter Ratcliffe, urging that all healthcare workers be offered regular tests for the virus.
In evidence last week, Prof Nurse said his letter had been “ignored” by the secretary of state for three months, before he received an “anodyne response” from another civil servant.
Regular testing of care home workers didn’t start until the summer of 2020 in England, while NHS staff and other social care workers were not offered weekly tests until November of that year.
Mr Hancock said he had not seen the letter personally and by that point, the government was already putting in place policies to tackle the transmission of the virus by people without clear Covid symptoms.
“The argument that is implied is that, somehow, somebody eminent who won a Nobel Prize knew something and we ignored it. It’s just not true. It’s not what happened,” he said.

Minnesota Female Athletes Sue Attorney General Over Biological Males Playing in Girls’ Sports
Minnesota Female Athletes Sue Attorney General Over Biological Males Playing in Girls’ Sports
A sports advocacy group is suing Minnesota’s attorney general on behalf of three female softball players over a state policy that allows males to compete in female sports.
The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a non-profit legal group, filed a lawsuit earlier this week on behalf of Female Athletes United (FAU) to remove transgender athletes from softball, and particularly a trans pitcher who is dominating the sport.
FAU is an organization that advocates to protect fairness, safety, and equal opportunity for women and girls in sports, ADF reports. Some of the organization’s members include three high school softball players who have been forced to compete against a male athlete.
One student who is currently a junior has competed against the trans-identifying athlete and lost in games during the regular season and sectionals, which prevented her team from advancing to the state tournament. During one game, the junior student’s team did not score a single point, and the male athlete pitched seven strikeouts.
Another athlete, also a junior, is a top pitcher who has already committed to play collegiate softball. This FAU member was on the same club team as the male athlete until she found out that she would have to compete against him for pitching time. She then decided to quit the club team and believes she will likely have to compete against him at the state softball tournament this season.
Meanwhile, the third athlete, identified as E.P. in the lawsuit, is a sophomore and was hit by a pitch thrown by the male athlete during club softball.
She described the pain as more intense than being hit by pitches thrown by girls, due to their strength and speed.
According to the lawsuit, the girls point out that the trans athletes are “*******, stronger, and taller” than they are, and that it “translates to a significant advantage in pitching, hitting, and running,” which they describe as “unsafe and unfair.”
The plaintiffs allege that Minnesota protects the rights of transgender-identifying girls to play in girls’ sports, “These sports are not actually reserved for females. And as a result, boys are displacing and defeating girls in competitive sports,” they said.
“Minnesota is failing its female athletes. The state is putting the rights of males ahead of females, telling girls their hard work may never be enough to win and that they don’t deserve fairness and safety,” said ADF legal counsel Suzanne Beecher.
“By sacrificing protection for female athletes, Minnesota fails to offer girls equal treatment and opportunity, violating Title IX’s provisions. Our client, Female Athletes United, is right to stand up for its members by challenging the state’s discriminatory policy and advocate for true equality in sports,” she added.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minnesota State High School League executive director Erich Martens, Minnesota Department of Human Rights commissioner Rebecca Lucero, and Minnesota Commissioner of Education ******* Jett are named as defendants in the lawsuit.
For the last 10 years, the Minnesota State High School League has overseen a policy that allows trans athletes to compete in girls sports.
Ellison released a statement responding to the lawsuit.
“In addition to getting exercise and the fun of competition, playing sports comes with so many benefits for young people. You build friendships that can last a lifetime, you learn how to work as part of a team, and you get to feel like you belong,” Ellison said.
“I believe it is wrong to single out one group of students, who already face higher levels of bullying and harassment, and tell these kids they cannot be on the team because of who they are. I will continue to defend the rights of all students to play sports with their friends and peers.”
Meanwhile, Ellison is suing President Donald Trump and the Department of Justice over the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order.
Trump signed the order in February requiring schools, colleges, and athletic associations that “deny women single-sex sports and single-sex locker rooms” to stop the practice, and it directs state attorneys general to identify best practices for enforcing the mandate.
However, Ellison said he would defy the order. Months later, Ellison says the Justice Department sent him a letter threatening legal action if the state did not comply with the order. The Minnesota attorney general moved to sue first, Fox News reports.
“I’m not going to sit around waiting for the Trump administration to sue Minnesota. Today, Minnesota is suing him and his administration because we will not participate in this shameful bullying,” Ellison said. “We will not let a small group of vulnerable children who are only trying be healthy and live their lives be demonized.”
The White House responded to the lawsuit, condemning the attorney general for refusing to protect young women in sports.
“Why would a grown man sue the Trump administration to allow other biological males to participate in women’s sports? This is creepy and anti-woman,” White House spokesperson Harrison Fields told Fox News.
