  1. Here’s How Much of Your Salary Experts Recommend Investing Every Month Here’s How Much of Your Salary Experts Recommend Investing Every Month Trying to figure out how much of your paycheck you should invest each month? A quick internet search might leave you more confused than confident. Be Aware: Suze Orman: 3 Biggest Mistakes You Can Make as an Investor Read Next: These Cars May Seem Expensive, but They Rarely Need Repairs The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but financial experts say there are smart guidelines anyone can follow based on their income and long-term goals. At bare minimum, if your employer offers a 401(k) plan with matching funds, the most basic rule of thumb is to invest at least up to the point you receive the entire match, according to Rick Miller, a financial planner and investment advisor at Miller Investment Management. While this amount can vary, commonly somewhere between 5% and 8% of your income up to a cap, it is essentially “free” money. For amounts above that level, you could be better off investing outside the 401(k) or similar plan because of the future required minimum distribution (RMD) rules forcing you to withdraw funds, he pointed out. Your RMD withdrawals are 100% taxable as income. “Employer plans help because they take a bit out of your check every pay *******, so they create discipline for you,” Miller said. Learn More: Money Influencer Delyanne Barros: Why Boring Could Be Best for Investing Whether you have an employer match or not, James Comblo, a certified financial fiduciary and CEO of FSC Wealth Advisors, said that your total savings and investments together should come closer to 20%, following the classic 50/30/20 framework (50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings/investments). “Then as you factor in income, age, debt and goals, that number can shift. For higher earners, the goal should be to push well beyond 20%, especially if their lifestyle is under control.” Comblo also prefers nontraditional budgeting, where instead of paying your bills first and investing what’s left, “you start with your long-term goals, determine how much you will invest first, and build your spending plan around that.” If you’re just beginning to invest, look to start with ETFs (exchange-traded funds), Miller urged. “The costs will be super low and restrict yourself to index funds for broad exposure.” While it’s hard to imagine you could over-invest too much of your paycheck, a key sign, Miller said, is “if you find your consumer debt increasing.” Then it may be time to dial back your investing amount to even out your cash flow and minimize interest charges. Story Continues If you started investing late, Comblo said, “Don’t panic, be precise. You may need to invest more aggressively, but you also need to know what you want from your investments and how to maximize the benefits you’re getting.” Additionally, late starters should focus on using index ETFs and avoiding balanced funds, since any bond components will drag the overall return down, Miller said. “Be aware that this increases your market risk, so you may want to explore some of the buffered ETFs that provide some downside protection as a diversification.” The worst thing you could do is wait to invest, Comblo said. “Procrastination is the most expensive decision.” He said people often delay investing until things settle down, but we know the market moves higher over 70% of the time so time in the market always beats timing the market.” The second biggest mistake is underestimating future taxes and not planning for tax-efficient withdrawals later, he said. Not only is how much you save important, but Comblo recommended a priority order in which to save, that goes as follows: Build a one-month emergency fund. Pay off high-interest debt. Contribute to your 401(k) up to your employer match. Build a three-month emergency fund. Max out a health savings account (HSA) contribution if available. Max out a Roth IRA contribution. With any excess savings, invest in permanent life insurance. Invest in real estate. No matter your strategy, staying consistent is key to investing, Miller said. “Ideally, if you can keep investing the same amount according to your plan, you will be doing dollar cost averaging, which, over time, is an excellent way to grow into wealth.” This means that when prices are low, essentially your same contribution buys you more stocks or funds, and less when they are high. This reduces the effects of market volatility and avoiding the chance of investing a lump sum at an inopportune time (like just before a market ******). If your financial plan is solid, you should not need to make major changes in times of market stress or inflation, Comblo added. 2. The Most Underrated Call of Duty Game Confirmed One Mission Was an Homage to Infamous James Bond Movie The Most Underrated Call of Duty Game Confirmed One Mission Was an Homage to Infamous James Bond Movie They became ghosts. Forgotten, always hunting and ever ready to kill. That was the iconic introduction of one of the best Call of Duty games of all time, Call of Duty: Ghosts. From space missions to global apocalyptic war, thanks to weaponized satellites, Call of Duty: Ghosts was an underappreciated game that was released back in 2013. Gamers around the world were impressed by the iconic storyline, and the space missions were something crazy back in those days. However, they were clearly a homage to an underrated James Bond film, Moonraker. Call of Duty: Ghosts paid a homage to James Bond’s Moonraker Roger Moore portrayed the role of James Bond in a 1979 film titled Moonraker. The premise followed James Bond investigating the ********** of a United Kingdom space shuttle and uncovering a plot to wipe out humanity and replace it with a more advanced and master race. A still from Call of Duty: Ghosts | Credits: Infinity Ward Well, Call of Duty: Ghosts had a very similar plotline about a villain using a superweapon (called ODIN). The story is told through the eyes of Logan Walker and features one of the most visually iconic campaigns in the franchise. However, when executive producer Mark Rubin sat down for a chat with Metro ***, he revealed that the game’s opening shot (the image above) was very obviously an homage to Roger Moore’s James Bond film, Moonraker. That was a fun moment. It was an obvious nod, but without having to… Yeah! I mean most of the outer space battles could’ve been anything, not necessarily Moonraker, but that one opening scene of the astronauts coming out of the shuttle is a direct lift from Moonraker. It was there as a nod. Although the Call of Duty franchise had dabbled with space missions before (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2), Ghosts took the gameplay and graphics to the next level. During early conceptions of the video game, several questions were asked about how accurately it could depict warfare in space. People involved in the making of the game were concerned about whether fans would like this shift in tone from traditional Call of Duty games. Guns work better in space than on Earth! Well, it was a change in tone with Call of Duty: Ghosts when the first-person POV went to space and had a shootout in hopes of defending the space station. Not everyone was on board with the idea, however. A still from Call of Duty: Ghosts | Credits: Infinity Ward As the interview continued, Mark Rubin said that not everyone was happy with the tonal shift. Some people were skeptical about bullets’ authenticity and how they work in space. However, the amount of detailing and scientific reasoning behind how a gun works in space was quite extraordinary. Bullets work great in space. And guns fire in space just fine, they fire in vacuums because the oxidant to fire a bullet is in the gunpowder. It’s the saltpetre that’s in gunpowder that’s where the bullet gets all its oxygen from. He continued, So it can be in a vacuum, and you can fire really easily. So you can actually fire more efficiently in space than you do on the ground. Despite the creators and developers putting so much effort into creating the video game, Call of Duty: Ghosts became an underrated gem in a long-reigning franchise. Although the game had somewhat of a strong *****, the ratings weren’t too good, and the story was left incomplete. There have been numerous discussions and rumors about Call of Duty: Ghosts 2, but nothing confirmed can be said about it. Israeli strikes kill guards protecting aid trucks amid ongoing blockade and food shortages Israeli strikes kill guards protecting aid trucks amid ongoing blockade and food shortages Israeli air strikes have killed at least six Palestinians guarding aid trucks against looters, ****** officials say, underlining the problems hindering supplies from reaching hungry people in Gaza following Israel’s 11-week-long blockade. The Israeli military said 107 trucks carrying flour and other foodstuffs as well as medical supplies entered the Gaza Strip from the Kerem Shalom crossing point on Thursday. But getting the supplies to people sheltering in tents and other makeshift accommodation has been fitful. So far, an umbrella network of ************ aid groups said, 119 aid trucks have entered Gaza since Israel eased its blockade on Monday in the face of an international outcry. But distribution had been hampered by looting by groups of men, some of them armed, near the city of Khan Younis, the network said. “They stole food meant for children and families suffering from severe hunger,” the network said on Friday in a statement that also condemned Israeli air strikes on security teams protecting the trucks. A ****** official said six members of a security team tasked with guarding the shipments were killed. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. The aid groups network also said the amount of aid coming into Gaza was still inadequate and only included a narrow range of supplies. It said Israel’s agreement to allow trucks to enter the war-shattered enclave was a “deceptive manoeuvre” to avoid international pressure calling for the lifting of the blockade. So far, Israel says it has allowed about 300 trucks to enter Gaza but aid groups say many of the trucks have been held up at the Kerem Shalom crossing and not yet reached people in need. The Israeli military said it had conducted more strikes in Gaza overnight, hitting 75 targets, including weapons storage facilities and rocket launchers. ************ medical services said at least 25 people had been killed in the strikes. Israel imposed its blockade on Gaza in early March, accusing ****** of stealing aid intended for civilians, shortly before breaking a two-month-old ceasefire after the two sides deadlocked on terms for extending it. ****** has rejected the accusation and says many of its own fighters have been killed protecting the trucks from looters. Israel launched an air and ground war in Gaza after ****** militants’ cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, which killed some 1200 people by Israeli tallies and saw 251 hostages abducted into Gaza. The Israeli campaign has since killed more than 53,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities, and devastated the coastal strip. Chasing just 82 to win, England reached their target off 9.2 overs with new captain Nat Sciver-Brunt unbeaten on 55 from 31 ****** and Sophia Dunkley scoring 24 not out. Danni Wyatt-Hodge fell to the first ball of the innings, the only bright spark in another dismal display from the tourists and another completely one-sided contest. West Indies slipped to 29-4 before eventually crawling to 81-9 as they had no answers to England’s impressive discipline and aggression with the ball. Seamer Em Arlott, in just her second international outing, finished with 3-14, including the key breakthroughs of Windies skipper Hayley Matthews for six and veteran batter Stafanie Taylor for a duck. Pace bowler Lauren Bell took 3-28 and spinner Charlie Dean bowled a miserly spell of 2-12 from her four overs. Shemaine Campbelle and Shabika Gajnabi were the only two West Indies batters to reach double figures, scoring 26 and 22 respectively, and only eight boundaries were scored in their entire innings, which also included 74 dot ******. 9. Donald Trump warns of 50 per cent tariff on European exports, rattling markets and pressuring EU trade talks Donald Trump warns of 50 per cent tariff on European exports, rattling markets and pressuring EU trade talks Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says US President Donald Trump does not believe that the European Union’s trade offers to the United States are of sufficient quality and that he hopes that a June 1 50 per cent tariff threat will “light a fire under the EU” in negotiations with the US. Bessent told Fox News Channel that many other top US trading partners are negotiating in good faith with the exception of the EU. Intensifying his trade push, Mr Trump on Friday said he was “recommending” a 50 per cent tariff on EU goods starting on June 1 and warned Apple that he may impose a 25 per cent tariff on any iPhones manufactured outside the US. The bombshell announcement comes a day after Bessent wrapped up meetings with G7 finance leaders, including European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis. The G7 ministers meeting in Banff, Alberta, papered over deep divisions on Mr Trump’s tariffs to reach agreement on efforts to reduce “excessive imbalances” in the global economy. “The conversation in Canada was fine. The problem was the lead up to that,” Bessent said. He told Fox News that other countries have been making trade offers in good faith, and that talks were advanced with some of them, including India and some Asian countries that have made some “very interesting proposals”. “And I believe the president believes that the EU proposals have not been of the same quality that we’ve seen from our other important trading partners,” Bessent said. He said the feedback he’s getting from some EU countries is that they are unaware of proposals being put forth by the European Commission from Brussels. “I’m not going to negotiate on TV but I would hope that this would light a fire under the EU,” Bessent said. “The EU has a collective action problem here. It’s 27 countries but they’re being represented by this one group in Brussels.” RegardingMr Trump’s threat to add a 25 per cent tariff to Apple iPhones manufactured outside the United States, Bessent said Mr Trump wanted to bring precision manufacturing back to the United States, including semiconductors. “I think that one of our greatest vulnerabilities is this external production, especially in semiconductors. And a large part of Apple’s components are in semiconductors,” Bessent said. “So we would like to have Apple help us make the semiconductor supply chain more secure.” The European Commission, which oversees trade policy for the EU, said it would not comment until after a call between European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Fifth person arrested on suspicion of aiding New Orleans escapees Fifth person arrested on suspicion of aiding New Orleans escapees By Christian Martinez (Reuters) -A fifth person has been arrested on suspicion of helping some of the 10 inmates who staged a daring escape from a New Orleans jail that was caught on security video, authorities said on Friday. Authorities apprehended Casey Smith, 30, who allegedly helped two escapees who had broken out of the Orleans Justice Center in the early morning hours of May 16, police said Friday in a statement. She helped the inmates “as they were transported to multiple locations in hours following their escape.”As of Friday afternoon, five of the escapees had been captured, while five others remained at large. Smith was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact to simple escape. On Thursday, Louisiana State Police said 59-year-old Connie Weeden was arrested after allegedly providing funds to escapee Jermaine Donald. Two other women, Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, were arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of being accessories after the fact, state police said. A maintenance worker at the jail, Sterling Williams, 33, was also arrested for allegedly assisting in the escape. Williams admitted to agents that he had turned off the water supply to a cell at the request of one inmate, who then tore off a sink and toilet from the wall and fled through the hole, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said on Tuesday. The inmates made their way out of the jail through the hole and out of a loading dock before scaling a wall and running across a highway, security video showed. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Williams said the inmate had threatened to cut him with a “shank” – a jailhouse term for a homemade knife – if he did not comply. The inmates were discovered missing during a morning headcount. Williams did not report the inmate and allowed “the inmates to carry out their scheme to successfully escape,” Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said on Tuesday in a statement. He was booked into Orleans Parish jail, then relocated to another facility and charged with 10 counts of simple escape and malfeasance in office. 13. Florian Wirtz: Liverpool make contact with Bayer Leverkusen Florian Wirtz: Liverpool make contact with Bayer Leverkusen Liverpool have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen over a move for attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. The Germany playmaker is emerging as a primary target for Arne Slot as the Premier League champions already begin planning for next season. Liverpool are set to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and the Anfield club registered their desire to sign 21-year-old Wirtz during those discussions. Formal negotiations are still to get under way but that is expected to happen in due course for a player that is valued by the Bundesliga club at more than £120m. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be willing to pay that sort of fee, which would eclipse the British transfer record fee of £107m Chelsea agreed with Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023. However, Liverpool have received encouragement that Wirtz is keen to join them, amid reports in Germany he prefers a move to Anfield over Bayern Munich. 14. US Judge halts trump move to bar Harvard from enrolling international students, amid legal battle US Judge halts trump move to bar Harvard from enrolling international students, amid legal battle A US judge has blocked US President Donald Trump’s administration from revoking Harvard University’s ability to enrol foreign students, a move that ratcheted up White House efforts to conform practices in academia to Mr Trump’s policies. US District Judge Allison Burroughs’ order provides temporary relief to the thousands of international students who were faced with being forced to transfer under a policy that the Ivy League school called part of the administration’s broader effort to retaliate against it for refusing to “surrender its academic independence”. The administration may appeal Burroughs’ ruling. In a lawsuit filed in Boston federal court earlier on Friday, Harvard called the revocation a “blatant violation” of the US constitution and other federal laws, and had an “immediate and devastating effect” on the university and more than 7000 visa holders. “With the stroke of a pen, the government has sought to erase a quarter of Harvard’s student body, international students who contribute significantly to the University and its mission,” Harvard said. “Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard,” the 389-year-old school added. Harvard asked a federal judge to block the revocation, citing “the immediate and irreparable harm inflicted by this lawless action”. The case was assigned to US District Judge Allison Burroughs. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson dismissed the lawsuit. “If only Harvard cared this much about ending the scourge of anti-American, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist agitators on their campus they wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with,” Jackson said. “Harvard should spend their time and resources on creating a safe campus environment instead of filing frivolous lawsuits,” she added. The termination of Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, effective with the 2025-2026 academic year, was announced by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and affects about one quarter of Harvard’s students. She said terminating the certification was justified because of Harvard’s “fostering violence, anti-Semitism and co-ordinating with the ******** ********** Party”. In a letter to the Harvard community, the school’s president Alan Garber condemned the administration’s actions. “The revocation continues a series of government actions to retaliate against Harvard for our refusal to surrender our academic independence and to submit to the federal government’s ******** assertion of control over our curriculum, our faculty, and our student body,” Garber wrote. Harvard enrolled nearly 6800 international students in its current school year, equal to 27 per cent of total enrolment. In its complaint, Harvard said the revocation would force it to retract admissions for thousands of people and has thrown “countless” academic programs, clinics, courses and research laboratories into disarray, just a few days before graduation. The revocation follows Noem’s demand on April 16 for a large trove of information from Harvard about student visa holders. In a letter to Harvard, which was attached to the complaint, Noem said the information was needed because the university had “created a hostile learning environment for Jewish students due to Harvard’s failure to condemn anti-Semitism.” On Thursday, Noem said Harvard could restore its certification by turning over within 72 hours a raft of records about international students, including video or audio of their protest activity in the past five years. In his letter on Friday, Garber said Harvard responded to Homeland Security Department requests as required by law. 15. How to Get the Emperor’s Robes in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered How to Get the Emperor’s Robes in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered Oblivion Remastered has a ton of fun little things to do, especially with regard to customization. The game is, after all, an RPG and stays close to the 2006 original in more ways than one. Oblivion Remastered can be quite a glitchy game at times, coming equipped with a plethora of bugs and quirky interactions, which are likely caused due to the game utilizing dual game engines. One of the more involved glitches has players swap into the Emperor’s outfit, which will be discussed below. How to get the Emperor’s garments in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered To begin, make sure you are at the start of the game, where you first meet and witness the death of Emperor Uriel Septim. Keep in mind that this ‘glitch’ cannot be triggered midway through the game. Looting the clone | Image Credits: Bethesda Additionally, do not hand over the Amulet of the Kings when attempting this method – doing so will wholly void the process, and you will likely have to start over again with a fresh save or make use of console commands. Do not complete the Dark Brotherhood questline either, as it will block the progression of these steps. With that in mind, you will also require the following items before you can begin nabbing the Emperor’s robes: Skull of Corruption: This Daedric Artifact can be obtained via the ‘Vaermina Daedric Shrine’ quest. It can be used to reanimate a target by creating a ‘corrupted clone’. Staff of Worms: This can be obtained by completing the Mages Guild quest and confronting the King. It can be used to revive a dead NPC, turning it into your ally. You can also use the Resurrection spell that is obtained from the Shivering Isles quest. Next, equip the Staff of Worms and head to the first section of the game’s opening quest. Once the Emperor falls down, hit him with the Staff to resurrect him. You will have to then immediately switch to the Skull of Corruption and hit him with it a few times to make it work. If it works, you should now have summoned a clone of the Emperor in his undergarments. The Emperor’s outfit | Image Credits: Bethesda Next, equip any weapon and begin attacking the clone. Make sure to whittle down his HP to dangerously close levels, and finish him off. Make sure your crosshair focuses on his body, and perform a quick save. Immediately load the new save, and you will greet the Emperor’s corpses, including the corpse of the Corrupted Clone, to receive the Emperor’s Robe and Shoes. Equip yourself with the clothes, and you should be done. While it is unlikely, Bethesda could patch this out soon It should be noted here that this is technically a glitch and is not the intended behaviour. Players are not expected to be able to nab the Emperor’s clothes, and Bethesda may patch this out sooner or later. Furthermore, while the outfit works perfectly fine in third person, switching to first person introduces a peculiar bug in which the player’s vision is blocked by the folds of the garment. As such, players might find it in their best interests to grab the clothing as soon as possible. 16. Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Over Here Fighting With An AI About God Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Over Here Fighting With An AI About God Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) engaged in a public spat on Friday with Grok, the artificial intelligence robot that lives on Elon Musk’s X, leading her to correctly observe the bot is not human. X users often ask Grok to perform basic fact-checking and provide additional context around others’ posts, with Greene’s being no different. When the congresswoman posted to her personal account a list of her attributes — Christian faith foremost among them — another X user asked Grok if she really can be considered a Christian. The bot offered an evenhanded reply. “Whether she’s ‘really’ a Christian is subjective, depending on personal and theological views. Her faith appears genuine to her, but public actions create controversy,” it said, in part. Greene replied directly to the robot: ”[T]he judgement seat belongs to GOD, not you a non-human AI platform.” “Grok is left leaning and continues to spread fake news and propaganda,” she went on. “When people give up their own discernment, stop seeking the truth, and depend on AI to analyze information, they will be lost.” Another user asked Grok for a yes or no answer on whether Greene’s public comments and voting record align with the teachings of Jesus Christ. “No,” it said. Greene is best known for taking extreme positions on topics ranging from vaccine efficacy to immigration, and for supporting conspiracy theories such as the idea President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. She recently voted in favor of Trump’s tax bill that includes cuts to social safety net programs Medicaid and SNAP, which help low-income Americans get health care and food. Musk, billionaire CEO of X, formerly Twitter, and close adviser to President Donald Trump, has touted Grok as a tool for evaluating the value of information on the internet that won’t shy from “spicy” topics like other bots. Musk has accused ChatGPT, the AI platform created by OpenAI, of being too “woke,” or left-leaning, and spoken about his wish to build trust around Grok’s answers. The bot has made a name for itself by providing unflattering answers about Musk and publicly disagreeing with him. Ultimately, though, Grok’s utility is tainted by its connection to Musk, who has used the social platform for his own political ends in the past. 18. Russia and Ukraine launch largest prisoner exchage amid ongoing war, 390 freed in first phase Russia and Ukraine launch largest prisoner exchage amid ongoing war, 390 freed in first phase Russia and Ukraine have each released 390 prisoners and say they will free more in the coming days, in what is expected to be the biggest prisoner swap of the war so far. The agreement to exchange 1000 prisoners each was the only concrete step towards peace to emerge last week from the first direct talks between the warring sides in more than three years, when they failed to agree a ceasefire. Both sides said they had each released 270 soldiers and 120 civilians on Friday, with more due to be released on Saturday and Sunday. The freed Russians are currently in Belarus, which neighbours Ukraine, receiving psychological and medical assistance before being moved to Russia for further care, the Russian Defence Ministry said. They include civilians captured inside Russia’s Kursk region during a Ukrainian incursion. “Today, almost 400 people are home,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in a televised address that confirmed the plan for both sides to release 1000 in the coming days. “We will definitely return everyone. Every one of our citizens.” The released Ukrainians arrived at a hospital in the northern Chernihiv region in buses and filed out, pale, most of them with shaven heads and wrapped in Ukrainian flags. Referring to the prisoner swap earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump, who had pressed the sides to meet last week, wrote on Truth Social: “Congratulations to both sides on this negotiation. This could lead to something big???” Hundreds of thousands of soldiers on both sides are believed to have been wounded or killed in the war, although neither side publishes accurate casualty figures. We are bringing our people home. The first stage of the 1000-for-1000 exchange agreement has been carried out. Ukraine says it is ready for a 30-day ceasefire immediately. Russia, which launched the war by invading its neighbour in 2022 and occupies about a fifth of Ukraine, says it will not pause its assaults until conditions are met first. A member of the Ukrainian delegation called those conditions “non-starters”. Defence Minister Rustem Umerov told reporters at a hospital that the swap was “the first stage” and that Ukraine still hoped to secure a ceasefire. “Ukraine wants the ceasefire. And we hope that the US will support Ukraine in achieving the ceasefire,” he said. Russia says it is ready for talks while the fighting goes on, and wants to discuss what it calls the war’s “root causes,” including its demands Ukraine cede more territory, and be disarmed and barred from the NATO military alliance. Ukraine says that is tantamount to surrender and would leave it defenceless in the face of future Russian attacks. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday his country would hand Ukraine a draft document outlining its conditions for a long-term peace agreement once the current prisoner exchange is completed. 19. Splitgate 2 Corrected the Same Flaw From the OG Game That Bungie Erased With Destiny 2 Splitgate 2 Corrected the Same Flaw From the OG Game That Bungie Erased With Destiny 2 Splitgate has quickly become one of the most popular shooter games on the market. The title can be best described as a free-to-play mash-up of Halo and Portal, introducing many new challenges and gameplay mechanics that help it stand out from the rest. In a way, the progression of Splitgate to Splitgate 2 can be compared to that of Bungie’s Destiny 2 transition, which does bear with it a ton of similarities. In particular, both games managed to correct a fatal flaw that made them even more popular than the original. Much like Destiny 2, Splitgate 2 corrects a fatal flaw with its live-service elements In an exclusive interview with The Gamer, Ian Proulx, the creator of the Splitgate series, reminisced about the game’s development history and the many challenges it faced. The original Splitgate lacked proper live service elements | Image Credits: 1047 Games One of the more prominent mishaps was the lack of a proper live service element in the first Splitgate. For the uninitiated, while Splitgate was a fantastic game in its own right, it did receive the short end of the stick compared to its competitors, at least in terms of content drops and updates. Elaborating further on the matter, Proulx explained that the transition from Splitgate to Splitgate 2 was eerily similar to that of Destiny 2. After all, despite having made an impressive title, Bungie never managed to nail the live service element. This was quickly corrected in Destiny 2, which features proper content drops and routine updates. Proulx learnt a lot from the first game and is making sure that these omissions do not happen in the sequel. Destiny 2 was an unlikely source of inspiration | Image Credits: 1047 Games Splitgate 2 will feature proper live service elements and routine content updates. The team has already formulated plans for future content drops, and it will be exciting to see how the game evolves. Admittedly, while he was unable to achieve much of these progression elements until quite recently (largely thanks to the smaller size and scope of the team, which contained only 15 members at first!), Splitgate 2 seems to be a grand time with many refinements to the beloved formula. Splitgate 2 is shaping up to be quite an exciting release To say that Splitgate 2 is currently one of the most anticipated shooters in the market would be an understatement – the title has garnered an immense amount of attention, which is well deserved. The original Splitgate started as a hobby student project for Ian, created during his days at Stanford. It is here where he rediscovered his passion for video games, making him combine two of his favorite franchises – Halo and Portal into one game. The feedback he received on the initial demo was overwhelmingly positive, which pushed him to seriously consider developing it as a full title. Fast-forward a few years, and Splitgate 2 is set to release later this year (2025), backed by a team of nearly 200 members. The sequel seems to be a *******, better version of the original without many of its flaws. The game is likely to be a hit, and its open beta will be released today. 20. Here’s why Apple can’t make an iPhone in the US — no matter what Trump says Here’s why Apple can’t make an iPhone in the US — no matter what Trump says Apple CEO Tim Cook oversaw his company’s deep investment in China. That was an enormously successful strategy for Apple — but now it’s a real problem, argues author Patrick McGee.VCG/VCG via Getty Images Donald Trump wants Apple to make iPhones in America. There’s no chance that will happen, says Patrick McGee, a journalist who just published a book on Apple’s deep ties to China. McGee also argues that Apple’s end-around on Trump’s China tariffs — saying that some iPhones and other products are made in India and Vietnam — is misleading. Donald Trump says that iPhones need to be built in the US, or they’ll face a 25% tariff. But it doesn’t matter what Trump says: iPhones are never going to be built in the US. That’s according to Patrick McGee, a journalist who just published “Apple In China: The Capture of the World’s Greatest Company” — a detailed look at all of the money and effort Apple spent over decades to enmesh itself in China. McGee, who has covered Apple for the Financial Times, explains why this has been enormously helpful to Apple — because it created an ecosystem that lets it make ultra-complicated devices at vast scale. But he argues that it was even more helpful to China — because Apple gave ******** engineers access to valuable technology that has let them build other high-value supply chains. And that McGee posits, has created both a problem for Apple CEO Tim Cook — because he can no longer practically extract the company from China — and for the US — because its adversary is now using American know-how to compete with American companies. (I asked Apple if it wanted to weigh in on McGee’s book. Via a rep, the company said that “claims in the book are untrue” and “filled with inaccuracies” and that McGee didn’t fact-check the book with Apple.) I talked to McGee for a recent episode of my Channels podcast. In the edited excerpt below, we talk about why he thinks it’s impossible for Apple to move iPhone production to the US. And why McGee thinks that Apple saying it’s moving some production to India and Vietnam, in order to escape some US tariffs on China, is deeply misleading. Peter Kafka: The Trump administration says it wants Apple to move all of its manufacturing to the US. You and anyone else who knows anything about Apple say that is literally not possible when it comes to the iPhone. Why? Patrick McGee: We’re lacking so many things. The density of population is one. Lots of people know a factory town [in China] might have 500,000 people just putting together the iPhone. The thing that people don’t understand is they’re not doing that year-round. They’re doing that for three or four months. And then they’re moving on to another project. So Apple doesn’t bear the cost. It’s using the likes of Foxconn to do manufacturing as a service. There’s an analyst quoted last month who said it would be like if in the city of Boston, every person dropped what they were doing and just worked on iPhones. And as quotable as that is, that understates the challenge. Because it would like the city of Boston transporting itself to some other place, like Milwaukee, assembling iPhones for a few weeks and then moving on to some other project. China has this floating population — that’s literally what it’s called — and that workforce alone is greater than America’s entire labor force. So we’re never going to match them in terms of density of population and, more especially, dynamism of the population. Let alone that it’s happening at way lower labor rates. Let alone it’s got way better machinery and automation. It’s not a matter of willpower and cost — that seems to be what the MAGA dream is based on. It goes so much beyond this. We often say Americans don’t want to do these jobs. The ******** don’t want to do these jobs. But there are so many people that would rather be doing that than toiling in the fields for 14 hours a day. We just don’t have a base of labor that would do that. One of the other arguments you and others make is that China has people, but there’s also just huge infrastructure: a whole series of plants and subplants and subcontractors that all are sort of built around getting Apple the products it needs, at a drop of a hat. Yeah. In the amount of time that it would take China to build a new factory, we would still be doing the environmental paperwork. But in Apple’s most recent earnings call, the company said that for the next quarter at least, every iPhone they sell in the US is going to come out of India, and most of the other electronics they sell in the US — AirPods, etc — are going to come out of Vietnam. So what am I missing here? It makes it seem like Apple has gone ahead and figured out how to move this stuff out of China. Not at all. Think of it like this: If there’s a thousand steps in making an iPhone and the final one is now in India, you’re avoiding tariffs. The final assembly is considered “making it in India.” Like if I took every step of baking a cake except for putting the icing on or … Putting it in the box or something. Honestly, not much is happening in India. That might change in the next five to 10 years, but the idea that there is actual production happening in India is just wrong. If you buy an iPhone next year, it’ll say “made in India.” I think that’s a near-certainty. But that phone will be no less dependent on the China-centric supply chain than any other iPhone you’ve ever purchased. On that earnings call, Apple also said that the existing tariffs will cost them $900 million in the next quarter. That may sound like a big number, but Apple makes $100 billion in profit a year, so it’s not. If that was just the only impact from the tariffs, that seems like a pretty solvable problem for Apple: They have to move final assembly to India, and eat some costs, but they could do it. Yeah, absolutely. Where I think things are much dicier is that the political ties that Apple has with China are unbreakable. I shouldn’t say political ties — I really mean the business ties. They are not going to leave China anytime soon. Yet the technological transfer that is engendered by designing cutting-edge products every year and building them in China inherently causes a technology transfer from America to China on a crazy level. And if you think of China as a threat, if you think of them as America’s biggest adversary, it is insane that the world’s greatest company is equipping China with this technological know-how year in, year out. The Wall Street Journal just reported that Apple is thinking about maybe tacking on some of these additional costs to the next round of iPhones they start selling this fall — passing those costs on to the consumer. Does that sound right to you? Yes, because the other alternative is that you’re squeezing out more from your suppliers. Some analysts have suggested that, and it’s kind of laughable. Because if there’s anything to squeeze out of the supply chain, you damn well better know that Apple’s already done it. Apple pays its suppliers very slim margins. There are not a bunch of **** cats out there that they can just be squeezing Read the original article on Business Insider Source link #Heres #Apple #iPhone #matter #Trump Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  21. Oblivion Remastered Playthrough With These Interesting Mods Oblivion Remastered Playthrough With These Interesting Mods Bethesda’s faithful remaster of the critically acclaimed The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered brought back the iconic series after more than a decade in all its glory, whether it’s updated textures or bugs and glitches returning from the original title, it hasn’t been a letdown in any aspect. But there’s one thing that Bethesda games don’t work without: Mods. The developers at Bethesda have always added fantastic mod support to their games to help players flaunt their creativity, and the case is no different for Oblivion Remastered. There exists a wide variety of mods for the game, but there are three particularly interesting mods that will not only freshen up your experience but also fix some of the game’s biggest problems. So, buckle up, dive into these three mods, and immerse yourself in a different kind of Elder Scrolls playthrough. 1 Ascension Remastered – Vanilla-Plus Loot and Balance The Ascension Remastered mod for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered overhauls nearly all aspects of the base game to create a harder and more rewarding experience for players. Things like loot, equipment, and enemies have been entirely overhauled to make more sense in the game’s world. It adds a lot to the already rich vanilla game to create the definitive Oblivion Remastered experience. For example, in the base game, low-level enemies stop spawning once you reach a specific level, which makes little sense since they’re enemies and they should exist regardless of your level. This mod does exactly that and adds a touch of realism in the process. Makes the world feel more dense and lively. The mod describes that “rare equipment is actually rare, dungeons feel rewarding, enemies and loot no longer stop spawning at higher levels, underused gameplay aspects are made more worthwhile, and difficulty has been subtly increased overall.” Progression has never been more satisfying in Elder Scrolls, and this mod is a must-have for fans. If you fancy an Oblivion Remastered experience that not only adds a lot onto the vanilla game but also builds on the foundations laid by it, head on over to Nexus Mods and install the mod uploaded by PushTheWinButton as soon as possible. 2 Auto Upgrade Leveled Items Leveled items being underpowered is no longer a worry! | Image Credit: TheOneTrueRy via Nexus Mods When playing The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, you might have come into contact with items whose levels are permanently set and cannot be changed in any way. That becomes a huge problem when your own level is higher than the item’s, making you underpowered. But this mod, created by user TheOneTrueRy, brilliantly fixes that issue and ensures that the item’s level fits your level. How does it work? Suppose you obtained a weapon permanently set at level 5, and you’re level 10. There’s a difference of 5 levels. So, what does this mod do? It replaces the level 5 weapon with a level 10 version of the same weapon, making the weapon’s level match yours as you keep progressing. You don’t have to worry about having permanently underleveled weapons or items in your inventory, as the mod will do all the heavy lifting. Make sure that a higher-level version of the item exists, otherwise, it won’t be automatically upgraded. So what are you waiting for? Install this The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered mod from Nexus Mods and enjoy your auto-upgraded leveled items. 3 Difficulty Slider Fixed The vanilla game’s difficulty, but better! | Image Credit: IxionXVII via Nexus Mods The difficulty slider is a common problem for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, as enemies get spongier the more the difficulty increases. Thankfully, this mod fixes the difficulty slider, adjusting the damage taken and damage dealt depending on the difficulty that you choose, allowing for a more flexible experience. If you’ve been a victim of broken difficulty in the vanilla version of the game, download this mod created by IxionXVII from Nexus Mods to make things easier and have a better Elder Scrolls experience that’s not too much of a pain in the butt. So, what do you think about the mods featured above? Will you be downloading them, or are you satisfied with the vanilla version of the game? 25. Georgia man who fled with the nanny after his wife’s killing is charged with ******* 19 years later Georgia man who fled with the nanny after his wife’s killing is charged with ******* 19 years later SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Investigators first believed Doris Worrell was killed in a botched robbery after her husband found her fatally shot at the South Georgia business they ran in 2006. When suspicion later turned toward Worrell’s husband, he fled the U.S. to live in Costa Rica with the couple’s live-in nanny. Nearly 19 years later, Jon Worrell was jailed on ******* charges Thursday in rural Coffee County, where the sheriff said authorities never gave up on the cold case. They got a big break in April, when investigators traveled to Costa Rica and found the nanny willing to talk after her relationship with Worrell had ended. “This case was never forgotten,” Sheriff Fred Cole told reporters at a news conference Friday. “And while the road has been long and often frustrating, we never gave up. Justice delayed is still justice.” Doris Worrell had worked as a teacher and an interior designer before deciding stay at home to raise three children. She and her husband operated a recreation business, Jon’s Sports Park, in the small community of Douglas, about 130 miles (209 kilometers) southwest of Savannah. Worrell called police from the business on Sept. 20, 2006, saying he had returned from running errands to find his wife’s body. “Many believed he was a grieving husband and his wife was the victim of a robbery gone wrong,” Jason Seacrist, an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, told reporters. Theories about Doris Worrell’s killing evolved as investigators gathered more evidence. In 2008, two employees of the sports park were charged with being conspirators to her *******, but the case was dropped for lack of evidence. Meanwhile, Seacrist said, investigators learned that Worrell had been having an affair with the nanny at the time of his wife’s death. “Jon was concerned that if he divorced Doris, he would lose his children,” Seacrist said. “And it’s those thoughts that led him to begin recruiting someone to ******* his wife.” He said Worrell fled to Costa Rica, where he and the nanny spent years living together while raising the Worrells’ children. Then investigators learned that the relationship had ended and Worrell had returned to the U.S. Georgia agents and sheriff’s investigators traveled to Costa Rica in April and met with the nanny, the sheriff said. He said information she provided corroborated other evidence that authorities had been collecting for years. Worrell was arrested Tuesday at his home in Mayfield, Missouri, north of Kansas City. He waived extradition to Georgia and arrived at the Coffee County jail late Thursday. Doris Worrell’s sister, LeAnn Tuggle, thanked investigators for their persistence. She recalled her sister as a gifted artist and loving mother who had agreed to let the nanny live at her home because the young woman had nowhere else to stay. “Sometimes she was too kind for her own good,” Tuggle said. “Her being kind is ultimately what caused her death.” Worrell was denied bond during his first court appearance Friday. The sheriff said Worrell had no attorney at the hearing, but told a judge he planned to hire one. Authorities are still trying to determine who shot Doris Worrell. One of men charged 17 years ago in the killing and later released has died, Seacrist said, while the other recently got out of prison in an unrelated case. The nanny has not been charged. “In our mind, she is not a suspect,” Seacrist said.
