  3. “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed released from prison after serving sentence for involuntary manslaughter“” “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed released from prison after serving sentence for involuntary manslaughter“” Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western film Rust, is no longer behind bars. New Mexico authorities confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Gutierrez-Reed was released from prison Friday, after having been sentenced to 18 months in April 2024. As part of her parole, Gutierrez-Reed is required to report immediately to an officer in Bullhead City, Ariz., according to a parole certificate reviewed by EW. Her early release comes with stipulations including no contact with the victim’s family and abiding by a curfew. Gutierrez-Reed was serving as the weapons supervisor on Rust on Oct. 21, 2021, when a prop gun being wielded by actor and producer Alec Baldwin discharged a live round, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin had been told the gun was “cold,” meaning it did not contain live ammunition, and he has maintained that he did not pull the trigger. The actor was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter before the charges were dropped, then was charged again in January 2024. The case against him was ultimately dismissed last July after the prosecutors committed a Brady violation. Prosecutors in Gutierrez-Reed’s case argued that she was neglectful in her duties supervising the safety of the prop weapons on Rust, contending that she unknowingly brought live ammunition to the production and allowed it to remain on set for at least 12 days, according to the Associated Press. Gutierrez-Reed also faced a charge of tampering with evidence but was acquitted. Rust Movie Productions LLC Alec Baldwin in ‘Rust’ Rust eventually resumed production in 2023 and completed filming 19 months after Hutchins’ death. The film opened in limited release earlier this month, grossing $25,000 from 115 theaters. When Rust opened, Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, and sister, Svetlana Zemko, encouraged people to see the film despite its tragic background. Want more movie news? I would want everybody to watch it because it was the dream of my daughter and she would want people to see it.” Zemko used a term of endearment when she added, “Everyone should see Gala’s work; this is high professionalism and high-level artistry. The film is strong. I would want Gala to be remembered not for the tragedy but for her talent and hard work.” Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly Source link #Rust #armorer #Hannah #GutierrezReed #released #prison #serving #sentence #involuntary #manslaughter Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  7. Number plate owned by Cornish comedian Jethro sells at auction Number plate owned by Cornish comedian Jethro sells at auction Matt Pengelly BBC News, Cornwall BBC There were bids from all over the country for Jethro’s distinctive number plate The famous J35 TER number plate owned by the late Cornish comedy legend Jethro has sold for £30,500 at auction. The personalised plate was the star of the online auction of his vehicles and agricultural machinery which ended on Thursday night. The comedian, who died in 2021, ran a farm and a contracting business from his base at Lewdown, near Okehampton, Devon. He always used the number plate on his personal vehicle and it was even on the Toyota Land Cruiser that carried his coffin to his ******** at Truro Cathedral in 2022. Jethro was a big fan of the Toyota Land Cruiser, three examples were sold at auction this week The viewing day for the dispersal ***** of vehicles, farm equipment and other machinery attracted a large number of people but it was the number plate that drew the most interest. Harvey Pile from Stags Auctioneers told BBC Radio Cornwall: “When I was instructed to conduct the ***** on behalf of the family I knew it would be quite a sought-after and special item to be selling but I did not expect it to be beyond £15,000 to £20,000. “There was quite a prolonged bidding war between numerous people, it actually didn’t close until 19:40 BST, travelling from £15,000 right up to £30,500 until somebody was finally victorious and now owns a piece of comedic history.” Mr Pile said he had no doubt the affection for Jethro had added to the interest in the *****. “The origin of it is important and I think that’s definitely helped us promote it and obviously helped the ***** prices be very very healthy,” he said. Auctioneer Harvey Pile said the result “exceeded his expectations” Jethro, whose real name was Geoffrey Rowe, was born in St Buryan, Cornwall. His popularity as a comedian grew during the 1980s and he made his first national appearance on the Des O’Connor show in 1990. He later said that performance gave him a national profile and it led to other TV appearances and stage shows across the ***. In 2001, he appeared on the Royal Variety Show and went on to become one of the biggest stars from Cornwall. Jethro had stopped touring in 2020 after more than 50 years on the road – he died in December 2021 at the age of 73 after contracting Covid-19. His ******** at Truro Cathedral in January 2022 was attended by hundreds of people, including fellow comedian and close friend Jim Davidson. 8. Oscar hits the walls as Norris powers to Monaco pole Oscar hits the walls as Norris powers to Monaco pole It could easily have been Monte Carlo and bust for Oscar Piastri as he had a career-high number of brushes with the barriers on F1’s most famous street circuit before being relieved to finish third in qualifying for the sport’s showpiece Monaco Grand Prix. Instead, while the championship leader diced with danger, it was McLaren teammate Lando Norris who came out top in a thrilling qualifying contest on Saturday, setting a lap record to edge out hometown hero, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, for pole. In a terrific final Q3 shootout, Piastri had seconds earlier also broken the record in 1 minute 10.129 seconds, only for Leclerc, who had topped all three practice sessions, to then clock 1:10.063 and Norris a dazzling 1:09.954. Ultimately, Piastri, who holds a 13-point lead over Norris in the championship, reckoned he was happy with his “decent” third position after a bit of a struggle during practice and qualifying as he admitted: “I mean, I think I’ve hit more walls this weekend than I have in my whole career, so it’s been a bit untidy.” Piastri had crashed during second practice on Friday and felt he’d clipped a wall in Q1 before a heftier tap with his left-rear tyre at La Rascasse in Q2. “It was intense, as it always is round here. Just been struggling to get into the groove a bit, but in qualifying, I was much happier with things, and I felt pretty good,” shrugged the ever unflappable ***********. “It’s quite reminiscent of last year to be honest. My first lap (in Q3) felt good, and then the second lap, I made a mistake in in the harbour chicane, and left a little bit on there. “To beat Lando was going to be tough, so well done to him. But still pretty happy with it overall. It’s been a pretty messy weekend so far, so to come out with a lap that I thought was pretty good and third is a decent result. “But we’ve been doing some digging this weekend, and to come out with this result is a decent effort.” Qualifying well is a priority on a circuit that’s so difficult to overtake on, but with a mandatory two-pit-stop rule in operation to liven up the sport’s most celebrated race, Piastri thinks anything’s possible. “We’re in good positions, obviously, but it’s still going to be an exciting race tomorrow with the two stops. Let’s see what happens,” he shrugged. Norris, after a 12th pole position and second this season, ended a spell where he’s been a bit down on confidence, saying: “It’s been a long time coming, I don’t think you realise how good this feels with quite a few struggles over the last couple of months, especially here in Monaco, the hardest track probably to do it.” Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton was fourth, having clipped the wall by the casino late in Q3 while Red Bull’s champion Max Verstappen will start fifth on the grid alongside Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar. But Mercedes’ George Russell came to a stop in the tunnel with an apparent electrical problem to red flag Q2 and placed only 14th. 9. Criminal case against mother of Cudahy student who brought gun to school dismissed Criminal case against mother of Cudahy student who brought gun to school dismissed The criminal case against the mother of a Cudahy student who police say brought a gun to Lincoln Elementary School has been dismissed, according to online court records. Xiaoping Wang, 40, of Cudahy had been charged May 22 with leaving a loaded firearm near a child, a misdemeanor offense. At the initial appearance on May 23, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Ana Berrios-Schroeder dismissed the case without prejudice, meaning prosecutors could refile it. The order came after the defense challenged the probable cause underlying the charge, according to online court records. The case against Nan Bin Li, 44, the child’s father faces the same misdemeanor charge, moved forward on May 23. He pleaded not guilty, and a judge set a $1,000 signature bond, online court records show. A signature bond is a promise to appear for future court dates, with a monetary penalty if a defendant fails to do so. Defense attorney Craig Powell did not immediately respond to an email and voicemail seeking comment the morning of May 24. Li and Wang’s child was charged in juvenile court earlier this month after police said a gun was found April 30 in the student’s backpack at Lincoln Elementary School. The student told police the gun belonged to Li and had been in a nightstand drawer of the parents’ bedroom, according to a criminal complaint. In a follow-up interview, the student said they found the gun a month earlier and had brought it to school twice, the complaint says. In Children’s Court, the student is facing one felony count of possession of a firearm on school grounds, one misdemeanor count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a person younger than 18 and one misdemeanor count of pointing a firearm at another, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel previously reported. 11. Northampton 20-28 Bordeaux-Begles – Saints beaten in Champions Cup final Northampton 20-28 Bordeaux-Begles – Saints beaten in Champions Cup final Northampton hurtled into the game, pouncing on a Bordeaux spill, ploughing upfield and crossing as Coles, who passed a late fitness test to start, threaded the ball through a tangle of limbs to ground inside two minutes. Saints supporters were still in full cry though as their fruitful opening turned sour. Wing James Ramm limped out of the fray as Fin Smith lined up the conversion. Full-back George Furbank, playing only his second game since breaking his arm in December, followed shortly after on a stretcher after catching an accidental knee in the face as opposite number Romain Buros attempted to hurdle over him in pursuit of a loose ball. Ollie Sleightholme and Tom Litchfield were summoned off the bench, but the subsequent rejig shunted England wing Tommy Freeman to full-back and scrambled some of Saints’ backline understanding. Once play restarted following Furbank’s injury, Damian Penaud sauntered in for his 13th try of Bordeaux’s continental campaign to pull his side back within two points. Shortly after, Louis Bielle-Biarrey looked to have put his fellow wing over again, only to have the score chalked off for a forward pass. That call apart, Saints felt they were getting little from referee Nika Amashukeli with Smith called for a marginal knock-on and Freeman seemingly blocked off by second row Adam Coleman as he pursued a kick ahead. There was no argument about Bordeaux’s second try however. After the ball went to ground in Northampton’s 22m, Mathieu Jalibert’s twinkling feet evaded five Saints defenders before the France international pumped a basketball-style pass out of the tackle and Coleman crashed over in the corner for 12-7 to the French side after 20 minutes. Saints slowly recovered from the onslaught with Smith moulding some shape into his reordered backline. A couple of penalties from the fly-half edged Northampton back to 15-13. Penaud continued to bristle with danger though and, after spilling forward close to the line on one occasion, he dived over amid the chaos of Jalibert’s botched and regathered grubber. Northampton refused to be shifted from the contest and, with Freeman and Mahamadou Diaby both in the sin-bin and the game swinging wildly from end to end, Coles went over in the final play of the half after Sleightholme had bumped off a tackler. That try, and Smith’s dead-eyed conversion, levelled the half-time scoreline at 20-20 after a breathless first *******. 13. I’m Still Mad at 343 Industries for the Real Reason They Refused a Halo 3 Remaster I’m Still Mad at 343 Industries for the Real Reason They Refused a Halo 3 Remaster Do you know what Halo fans have been asking for a decade? Why hasn’t Halo 3, one of the most beloved and iconic first-person shooters of all time, received the remaster treatment like earlier games? It’s 2025, and 343 Industries still hasn’t done it. After all, Halo: Combat Evolved was remastered in 2011, and Halo 2 got the same treatment in 2014 as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Well, we kind of have an answer now, and it’s not one that I’m satisfied with. According to new developer statements, the reason we never got a remaster wasn’t some creative choice; it was simply a lack of resources. 343 Industries couldn’t make a Halo 3 Remaster because of this? Halo Infinite associate art director Darren Bacon recently pulled back the curtain in an April 29, 2025, interview on the VideoGamer Podcast (via Dexerto). Bacon revealed that 343 Industries (recently rebranded as Halo Studios) had indeed considered remastering Halo 3. I wouldn’t be opposed to a Halo 3 remaster, but I am really tired of 343/Halo Studios releasing games unfinished. If working on a remaster for Halo 3 means in ANY WAY that the next proper Halo game (ideally Infinite’s sequel) launches incomplete, then absolutely the ***** not. — Aksis_21 (@aksis_21) April 28, 2025 Internally, the team wanted to do it. But the project never got off the ground. Not because there hasn’t been any fan interest, but because they just didn’t have the resources or personnel. So it wasn’t a matter of choosing not to; it was a matter of not being able to. Back when this remaster was first floated, 343 was stretched thin. On one end, they were busy with post-launch support for Halo 5: Guardians. On another front, they were deep in the early production of Halo Infinite, which was already facing major challenges. As Bacon put it, the studio was locked in a “resource battle.” Halo 3 is a touchstone in gaming history. It innovated and pushed the creative culture forward. Party System, Theater, Forge, File Share and more were all put into a consistent and coherent whole, providing a fluid and seamless experience. It once had over 1m concurrent players. pic.twitter.com/YpN5QYrNZS — Hailey ♡ ꙳•‧͙ (@HaileyEira) September 25, 2022 I’m sure I’m not the only one that wants it. pic.twitter.com/5XoUrOrmdJ — Combat Devolved (@CombatDevolved) March 18, 2025 What made things worse was the studio’s heavy reliance on temporary contractors. Bacon explained that most contractors operated on 18-month cycles, which often isn’t long enough to complete large projects. Each time a contractor left, the team faced a bottleneck: fresh hires needing onboarding, experienced people walking out the door. If there’s any game that deserves it, it’s Halo 3 Make it happen! | Image Credit: 343 Industries That explanation makes sense on paper, but it’s also why I’m still mad. If you’re a long-time gamer, you know that Halo 3 isn’t just any game. It was the culmination of Bungie’s original trilogy. It was one of the best-selling Halo games and earned a Metacritic score of 94, higher than both Halo 1 and 2. We still talk about its campaign, its multiplayer maps, and its massive contribution to online play on console. If any game in the Halo series deserved a remaster, it was Halo 3. And let’s not pretend there wasn’t a good reason to push forward with one. A Halo 3 remaster could have been so good, just look at the recent success of the Oblivion Remaster. It could have been a perfect tie-in to help promote the ongoing Halo TV series on Paramount+, drawing in new viewers and re-engaging lapsed players. Most importantly, it would have completed the remastered trilogy, which now just remains abandoned. Instead, we got… nothing. 15. Italian man kidnapped, tortured for weeks in Manhattan apartment: NYPD sources Italian man kidnapped, tortured for weeks in Manhattan apartment: NYPD sources An Italian man who was tortured and held against his will inside a Manhattan apartment for several weeks managed to escape his captors and get help, according to police sources. Police have arrested one of the alleged kidnappers, who they have identified as John Woeltz, 37, a crypto trader from Kentucky. Woeltz was charged with two counts of assault and one count each of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and criminal possession of a firearm. The 28-year-old victim managed to escape the apartment near the corner of Prince and Mulberry Sts. at about 10 a.m. Friday morning and flagged down a traffic agent, who immediately contacted police, a second police source said. The man told police that he met Woeltz through their shared interest in crypto currency. He arrived in the U.S. on May 6 and went to Woeltz’s apartment, where his passport was taken from him and he was tied up and tortured, police sources said. Cops did not immediately disclose how the man was tortured, but police sources told the Daily News he had been bound with electrical tape and tased. After the kidnapping was reported, cops went to the Prince St. apartment, where they found a firearm and Polaroid pictures of the victim being tied up and tortured. Woeltz allegedly tried to extort the man for millions of dollars in crypto currency, police sources said. Woeltz was taken into custody and was being questioned by NYPD detectives. “He hasn’t said anything. He lawyered up immediately,” a police source said. Woeltz has been featured as a speaker at several cryptocurrency conferences, and has “nearly a decade of experience with technology startups in Silicon Valley,” according to online profiles. A witness said he saw police ******* a “clean-shaven, respectable”-looking man wearing a white bathrobe out of the building in handcuffs Friday morning, around the time the victim escaped. “The guy comes out in a white bathrobe, barefoot, hands cuffed behind his back, got into a police car,” said Ciaran Tully, 64, a vendor who sells photographs on Prince St. The man did not say anything as he was brought out by police, Tully said. “He didn’t look concerned. He didn’t look worried or anything like that,” he said. “He looked like to be in his mid to late thirties. He looked like a businessman … He looked like if he were to put on a suit, that’s what he would be putting on. He looked good,” Tully said. Tully, who lives in the East Village, was shocked to hear about the alleged crimes. “That is news to me. I would not have guessed anything like that,” Tully said. “I’m shocked, absolutely. “You wouldn’t expect it. I mean, all the apartments around here are very expensive,” he added. “From outside it looks like a beautiful house.” Woeltz had reportedly been renting out the Prince St. residence for between $30,000 and $40,000 a month. 17. Germany may force draft unless army volunteers increase Germany may force draft unless army volunteers increase Germany may reinstate compulsory military service if a revamped volunteer system fails to meet recruitment goals, the defence minister said. In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung published on Saturday, Boris Pistorius laid out a timeline for Germany’s new military service model, which aims to bolster the understrength army. The initial program will rely on voluntary enlistment, but Pistorius warned that could change. “If the time comes when we have more capacity available than voluntary registrations, then a decision may be made to make recruitment mandatory. That is the roadmap,” he said. He said the government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz is moving quickly on a new military service bill and hopes it will come into force as early as January 2026. The debate over reinstating conscription in Germany has been intensifying as concerns rise about national defence readiness and evolving security threats in Europe. Germany suspended its draft in 2011, but has struggled to meet troop targets as defence demands grow following Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Pistorius also said the military service plan would include efforts to reactivate more reservists. The price might seem a little high, given that the screen is only 25 inches across. However, it’s got a little more going for it that sets it apart from your average gaming display. If you want to get an idea of what’s leading the market, check out our list of best gaming monitors to see what specs comprise our top picks. The Asus ROG Strix XG259QNS is built around a 25-inch IPS panel with an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080px, which isn’t the most dense on the market but should be plenty for most gamers. It can reach a refresh rate of 380 Hz and is paired with a response time that can get as low as 0.3 ms. This gaming monitor covers 110% of the sRGB color gamut and can reach a maximum brightness of 400 nits. It’s AMD FreeSync Premium certified, guaranteeing low latency and framerate compensation (LFC). It doesn’t have any integrated speakers, but you do get a 3.5mm jack for connecting audio devices. As far as ports go, you get two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, a DisplayPort port, and two HDMI ports for video input. This appears to be part of Memorial Day weekend sales, but we’re unsure how long it will be available at this rate. You can find more information about the offer on Amazon’s official Asus ROG Strix XG259QNS product page. 19. Star Wars Battlefront 2 sees surge of popularity Star Wars Battlefront 2 sees surge of popularity It seems thanks to May 4 and the success of Andor Season 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has seen a decent kickback from it, with surging players. Alternatively, it might just be because the game looks rather good for a 2017 game. As pointed out by Insider Gaming, more creators have been pushing out content, such jackfrags, who saw a spike in popularity with the game. Heading to SteamDB, the game still doesn’t peak beyond its all-time peak back at launch with 10.4K, but being just shy at 9.7K is certainly respectable for a 2017 arena shooter. Unfortunately, this is likely where the Battlefront line of games likely comes to an end. With most of EA’s major shooter studios being relegated to Battlefield, it’s hard to say if the series will ever come back, but as pointed out, there’s always hope as Apex Legends seems to be tapering off a bit, giving rise to the potential of Respawn Entertainment stepping in. 21. Oracle has reportedly placed an order for $40 billion in Nvidia AI GPUs for a new OpenAI data center Oracle has reportedly placed an order for $40 billion in Nvidia AI GPUs for a new OpenAI data center Oracle has reportedly purchased about 400,000 Nvidia GB200 AI chips, worth about $40 billion, for deployment in Abilene, Texas. According to the Financial Times, this site will be the first to host the U.S. Stargate project —a $500 billion investment in AI infrastructure by OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund MGX that President Trump announced earlier this year. Upon completion, the site is estimated to deliver up to 1.2 gigawatts of computing power, making it one of the most powerful data centers in the world and competing against Elon Musk’s Colossus in Memphis, Tennessee. The project’s ownership is a bit complicated, though. The Abilene site is owned by Cruso, an AI infrastructure company, and Blue Owl Capital, a U.S. investment firm. Both have poured over $15 billion into the site through debt and equity financing. You may like The AI data center campus is approximately 875 acres and will have eight buildings. Construction began in June last year. Oracle will lease the Abilene site for 15 years, where it will deploy these AI chips. It will then lease this massive computing power to OpenAI, allowing it to use the AI chips to train its next-generation AI LLMs. OpenAI has solely relied on Microsoft’s data centers for its computer power needs. However, it has since become frustrated with the setup, because the former’s demand was greater than what the latter could supply. So, the two decided to terminate their exclusive contract, allowing the AI pioneer to partner with other organizations for its processing power demands. Interestingly, all these talks on equity and investments are commitments by the individual companies—the Financial Times said that Stargate itself has yet to commit any amount to a data center. Nevertheless, OpenAI recently also announced Stargate UAE, where it plans to deploy a 1GB cluster in Abu Dhabi in coordination with the U.S. government. The 5 GW data center will be built by G42 and is envisioned to utilize more than 2 million Nvidia GB200 chips. All these AI data center deployments have helped Nvidia become one of the most valuable companies in the world, with Team Green hitting the number one spot (again) in late 2024. Aside from this $40 billion Oracle order, there has also been news that Elon Musk is raising cash to build Colossus 2, featuring a million GPUs. Other tech giants and even governments are trying to get in on the bandwagon, pushing the demand for the latest, most powerful AI chip through the roof. About 160,000 homes in the city of Cannes and surrounding municipalities lost power on Saturday, France’s electricity operator RTE said. Police are investigating a possible arson attack as being the main cause of the incident. Organisers of the international film festival say the closing ceremony will go ahead as planned as they have an alternative power supply. The power cut affected 160,000 homes in the Alpes-Maritimes area. Supply was restored by 15:00 local time (11:00 GMT) , according to RTE. In Cannes, shops and restaurants struggled to operate during the cut. “Another hour and I’ll throw everything away,” Laurent Aboukrat, who owns Canne’s Jamin restaurant, told AFP news agency. He said his fridges had been off since the morning “Cannes is in a total slowdown, meltdown, there’s no coffee anywhere, and I think the town has run out of croissants, so this is like crisis territory,” *********** producer Darren Vukasinovic told Reuters news agency.
