  4. Cheaper is Better: The Lowest Fee Bitcoin ETFs for ********* Investors Cheaper is Better: The Lowest Fee Bitcoin ETFs for ********* Investors Canada may have been first out of the gate with spot ETFs, but the U.S. has since caught up, and then some. When the U.S. approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, the market exploded in size, with assets ballooning to many times that of ********* counterparts. A big reason? Lower fees. To win market share, several U.S. issuers launched with aggressive fee waivers, in some cases dropping management fees to 0% on the first several billion in assets like BlackRock (NYSE:) iShares did. Grayscale, for example, converted its flagship trust and introduced a cheaper version to stay competitive. Meanwhile, many of the older ********* spot Bitcoin ETFs, launched well before the U.S. were still charging 0.40% to 1.00% in management fees. This led some investors to consider converting their currency and buying the U.S. versions, even after factoring in foreign exchange costs. Thankfully, that’s no longer necessary. Canada now has lower-cost Bitcoin ETFs that are eligible for registered accounts like TFSAs, RRSPs, and FHSAs. Here are two of the cheapest options currently available from iShares and Purpose Investments. iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) iShares brought iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:) to the ********* market in early 2025, and if there’s any firm capable of running a Bitcoin ETF as a loss leader to win domestic market share, it’s BlackRock. The fund tracks the CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate – New York Variant, providing price exposure to spot Bitcoin. The actual crypto is held in cold storage with Coinbase (NASDAQ:) Prime acting as custodian, and only moved to a hot wallet when needed for ETF creations or redemptions, which is an industry-standard security practice. IBIT debuted on January 8, 2025, and has had a solid start, already amassing $180 million in AUM. It charges a 0.32% management fee, which is among the lowest in Canada for spot Bitcoin exposure. The MER hasn’t been reported yet, since the fund hasn’t completed a full year, but I’d estimate it will come in around 0.40% once operating expenses are factored in. Purpose Core Bitcoin ETF (BTCO.B) If you’d prefer to stick with a ********* ETF issuer, and given the current political climate, that’s a reasonable call, BTCO.B from Purpose Investments is worth a look. Purpose made history by launching the world’s first spot Bitcoin ETF, and BTCO.B is its newer, lower-cost version. It’s designed specifically for buy-and-hold investors looking for more affordable long-term exposure, unlike the firm’s older flagship Bitcoin ETF, which is more liquid but also more expensive. The “.B” suffix indicates this is the unhedged version, meaning the ETF is priced in ********* dollars, but the underlying Bitcoin is priced in U.S. dollars. If the CAD strengthens, it can reduce returns; if the USD rises, it can boost them. But given how volatile Bitcoin already is, the impact from currency movements tends to be minimal. BTCO.B undercuts IBIT, charging a 0.29% management fee, which is very competitive. For context, that’s almost identical to the 0.28% fee charged by a passive equity fund like Vanguard’s U.S. Dividend Appreciation Index ETF (VGG). Like IBIT, BTCO.B hasn’t been around for a full year yet, so there’s no official MER. But if Purpose manages operational costs efficiently, a final MER of 0.34% or lower seems like a realistic expectation. 5. What to know about potential ***** What to know about potential ***** A wild-west themed amusement park in Maggie Valley may see a revival, according to the National Amusement Park Historical Association. Regional travel guide website Blue Ridge Mountain Life noted that some refer to Ghost Town Village, formerly known as Ghost Town in the Sky, as a “cursed amusement park.” The gloomy title refers to the many failed attempts to reopen the park, which was once a popular attraction but has not been open since 2009. The NAPHA made a Facebook post on May 9, stating that a potential buyer from Florida expressed interest in buying the defunct amusement park. The same post said that current owner Jill McClure, who inherited the property, aims to sell it for entertainment purposes rather than to a buyer who will use it for housing. The buyer envisions “a venue featuring country music, rodeos, and festivals, aiming to keep the park family-friendly.” Is Ghost Town Village/Ghost Town in the Sky reopening? So far, the NAPHA has mentioned only preliminary consideration of purchasing the park from the potential Florida buyer. However, current owner McClure has clarified that she hopes to sell the park, regardless, for entertainment purposes. Why was Ghost Town Village/Ghost Town in the Sky abandoned? Blue Ridge Mountain Life co-owner Larry Deane explained in a post on the website that the reasons behind Ghost Town Village’s initial closure were “extensive.” “Over the many years, the park just slowly ran into disrepair, having some significant infrastructure issues like water, power, sewage,” Deane wrote. “After all, providing those services on the top of a mountain for an amusement park isn’t easy.” Deane also cited the decline in popularity of the “wild west” theme in as a reason why Ghost Town Village was closed. Can you still get to Ghost Town Village/Ghost Town in the Sky? As the abandoned park is private property, it is unlawful to enter the area without permission. “It is ******** to enter the property, and you will be charged with trespassing per our conversation with local authorities,” Deane wrote. 7. Japan plane diverted after man tried opening door mid-air Japan plane diverted after man tried opening door mid-air A Japanese plane headed from Tokyo to Texas had to make an emergency landing after a passenger tried to open one of its doors during the flight. All Nippon Airways (ANA) Flight 114 was diverted to Seattle hours after taking off on Saturday “due to an unruly passenger”, the airline said. Port of Seattle police told media they had been notified of a man who “attempted to open exit doors during the flight”. The man, who was not identified, was “having a medical crisis” and had to be restrained by other passengers and flight crew, police said. He was later taken to a hospital. It is unclear if he will face any charges. “The safety of our passengers and crew are our top priority and we applaud the efforts of local law enforcement for their support,” ANA said in a statement. While the plane was waiting on the tarmac of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a second person was removed from the flight for “unruly behaviour”, authorities said. Flight data shows that the plane made it to its destination, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, on Saturday around 12:40 local time (17:40 GMT) – four hours after its scheduled arrival time. This is the latest in a string of similar incidents. In April, a Jetstar flight from Bali, Indonesia was forced to turn around during its journey to Melbourne, Australia, after a passenger similarly tried to open a plane door in the air. Last November, a man who tried to open the plane door during an American Airlines flight was restrained and tied up by fellow passengers with duct tape. And in November 2023, nine passengers of an Asiana Airlines flight were sent to hospital with breathing difficulties after a man successfully opened the aircraft’s emergency exit door prior to it landing at a South Korean airport. 8. Manchester United fly out for post-season trip to Asia Manchester United fly out for post-season trip to Asia The Red Devils will take on ASEAN All Stars in Kuala Lumpur on 28 May before travelling to play Hong Kong two days later. United’s international players will then join up with their national teams the following week. Five days after United’s final game, Fernandes and Diogo Dalot will likely be involved for Portugal in their Nations League semi-final against Germany on 4 June. United’s pre-season then begins with a match in Sweden against Leeds United on 19 July, before they fly to the US as part of the Premier League’s pre-season tournament between 26 July and 3 August. They finally host Fiorentina on 9 August. Amorim has previously defended the post-season trip, calling it a “small sacrifice” which allows the club to “make contact with our fans around the world.” Defender Harry Maguire has said: “It is the club’s decision and we don’t have any right to argue against it after the performances we have put on. “As players, we have to take responsibility for the position in the Premier League and the money we have generated this season through that finish, which is nowhere near good enough. “We don’t have a right to stand here and criticise the club for trying to generate some money that will hopefully help us next season with signings.” Defeat in Bilbao means United will be without European football next season for only the second time since 1990, leaving a £100m hole in the club’s finances. Last week, BBC Sport reported United have told some staff working at their Carrington training ground that they will lose their jobs, in the second round of redundancies since Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought into the club last year. The latest cutbacks come against a bleak financial backdrop, with United losing more than £370m over the past five years. Last season, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United flew to Australia for a post-season friendly, which was described as “madness” by BBC pundit Alan Shearer. The increased workload on elite players has been widely discussed this season, with all three European club competitions expanded this season and Fifa’s revamped Club World Cup starting next month in the US. Former Manchester City defender Michael Brown told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast: “At the end of the season, you walk around the pitch and you get that feeling of ‘I’m done, I’m finished’ and you want to go and put your feet up and have the mental rest before the international games. You look forward to the break. “I understand why they want want to do it financially, but it shouldn’t be allowed.” Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson added: “Not a single one of those players will want to go, but they are commercially obliged to go in their contracts.” Source link #Manchester #United #fly #postseason #trip #Asia Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  10. ******** EV Stocks Tumble After BYD Slashes Prices as Much as 34% ******** EV Stocks Tumble After BYD Slashes Prices as Much as 34% (Bloomberg) — BYD Co. led ******** electric vehicle stocks lower in Hong Kong on Monday, as investors digested the auto giant’s sweeping price cuts of as much as 34% late last week. Most Read from Bloomberg Shares of China’s No. 1 selling car brand tumbled as much as 8.3%, while peers Li Auto Inc., Great Wall Motor Co. and Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. dropped more than 5% amid investor concern about intensifying competition in the sector. BYD offered discounts on 22 of its electric and plug-in hybrid models that it sells in China until the end of June, fanning the flames of a renewed sector-wide price war. While EV sales have overall reached new annual highs, growth has been decelerating. To kickstart sluggish consumer demand — made worse by China’s broader economic malaise — automakers in the world’s biggest car market have slashed sticker prices. Even so, stock levels at dealerships last month reached 3.5 million cars, or 57 inventory days, the highest since December 2023, according to data shared last week by the China Passenger Car Association. Revisions by BYD include paring the price of its Seagull hatchback to 55,800 yuan ($7,780), a 20% reduction to a model that was already the carmaker’s cheapest and one that had garnered global attention for its sub-$10,000 price tag. The Seal dual-motor hybrid sedan saw the biggest price cut at 34%, or by 53,000 yuan to 102,800 yuan. In recent months, BYD has attempted to clear inventory of older models, including ones without the new driver assist features — which the automaker announced in February would be added to its models for free. The pivot hasn’t been without problems, further hurting the struggling dealerships it does business with. “While some of these discounts have been in place since April, the official announcement sends a strong signal of how tough the end market is,” Morgan Stanley analysts including Tim Hsiao wrote in a note. BYD’s latest cuts are expected to have a knock-on effect, as rival automakers further trim their prices, slicing deeper into already thin margins. The intense pricing pressure is straining many carmakers’ bottom lines, leading to mounting financial losses and industry consolidation. “We anticipate peers to follow BYD’s price cut,” analysts at Citi Research wrote, noting that Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. announced a cash discount of 25,000 yuan for its Deepal S07 model over the weekend while Zhejiang Leapmotor Technologies Ltd. adjusted prices for its C16 full-size crossover sport utility vehicle and mid-sized SUV C11. Story Continues Citi estimated that after the weekend’s discounts, BYD dealership traffic may have surged between 30% to 40% week-on-week. Should that foot traffic translate into sales, BYD’s May volumes could keep their upward trajectory. The Shenzhen-based group posted its best month of sales yet for 2025 in April, a further sign that despite the broader industry pain, it’s on track to hit its full-year target of 5.5 million deliveries. BYD is also gaining ground overseas. It sold more EVs in Europe than Tesla Inc. for the first time last month, overtaking the American brand that long led the continent’s EV segment. Thanks to BYD’s vertically integrated supply chain — it makes its own batteries and many of its own semiconductors — and domestic scale, which helps reduce production costs, the impact of China’s car price wars on its balance sheet is more muted than for some other automakers. Its gross margin for the quarter ended March 31 was around 20% versus about 16% for Tesla, for example. And BYD’s net income in the first quarter jumped to 9.15 billion yuan, overtaking Tesla on another key metric. –With assistance from Charlotte Yang. (Updates to add detail on BYD margins in final paragraphs. An earlier version corrected the percentage price cut in headline and first paragraph.) 12. Premier League predictions: How accurate were BBC Sport pundits? Premier League predictions: How accurate were BBC Sport pundits? Did anyone see Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph coming? We didn’t. Not one of the 30 BBC pundits we asked to pick the top-flight’s top four before the season started predicted that the Reds would be champions – the closest were Stephen Warnock and Fara Williams, who both said Arne Slot’s side would finish second. But they were not alone in getting it wrong. Opta’s ‘supercomputer’ can tell you your team’s exact chances of winning any competition at any given time. It is actually a complex algorithm that uses a model based on betting market odds and the sports analytics company’s own ‘Power Rankings’, which are calculated using past results. Last summer, before a ball was kicked, it simulated the outcome of all 380 Premier League games 10,000 times and calculated that Manchester City had an 82.2% chance of a fifth-straight title, with Liverpool down in third. In fairness to Opta’s algorithm, it did choose all four teams that finished in the actual top four and, position-wise, it was correct about two of them – Arsenal in second and Chelsea fourth. Williams went with a hunch rather than crunching any data, but still matched that pretty impressive feat. She was one of five BBC pundits to include all of the top-four teams in their predictions and, although she went for Arsenal to win the title, she had City in third, one place above Chelsea. Matt Upson, Glenn Murray, Chris Waddle and Ashley Williams did the same, but with only one team, Chelsea, in their correct position. Mills bumped Charlie Spargo in the third term of Sydney’s heavy loss to Melbourne on Sunday at the MCG, which left last year’s grand finalists in trouble sitting two games plus percentage outside the top eight with a 4-7 record. It was Mills’ first AFL game since last year’s qualifying final. Mills was airborne when he bumped Spargo, who had to leave the field afterwards for a head injury assessment. The incident was graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact. There will be at least tribunal case this week, with Fremantle to challenge captain Alex Pearce’s three-game rough conduct ban incurred in their win over Port Adelaide on Saturday. Mills was among 13 players charged from Sunday’s games and the only suspension. Star West Coast recruit Liam Baker escaped with a fine for driving his forearm into the back of James Peatling as the Adelaide midfielder was on the ground. Baker was charged with “other misconduct” and can accept a $3125 penalty. The Eagle was also among seven players fined for the melee that immediately followed the incident. Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson was also fined for striking West Coast young gun Harley Reid. Meanwhile, Pearce’s teammate Corey Wagner said Pearce would have been criticised had he pulled out of the incident that led to his three-game ban. Port’s Darcy Byrne-Jones was running with the flight of the ball and was concussed when Pearce collected him in Saturday night’s home Fremantle win. Pearce was airborne and took his eyes off the ball just before contact, but did not turn his body in a bumping motion. “It’s a contact sport. You’ve got to brace for those positions. And if he pulls out, he gets criticised for not being hard enough. It’s a moment-by-moment sort of thing,” Wagner said. “They’re hard ones. It’s the sport we play. 24. A 302-pound loggerhead sea turtle hit by a boat gets an oversize CT scan, with a surprise A 302-pound loggerhead sea turtle hit by a boat gets an oversize CT scan, with a surprise JUNO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A massive loggerhead sea turtle hit by a boat off Florida’s Atlantic coast arrived at a turtle hospital needing medical care, but at 302 pounds (137 kilograms), Pennywise was too large to fit their equipment. So the veterinary team at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach took her to nearby Jupiter Medical Center, hoping she could get a CT scan on a human machine. She was too big for that, as well. They quickly came up with another plan: taking Pennywise to Palm Beach Equine Clinic in Wellington, where the scan was performed on equipment designed for horses. “And, luckily, the horse-sized machine was big enough to fit this lady through,” Heather Barron, the chief science officer and veterinarian at Loggerhead, told The Associated Press. Turns out, they also got a nice surprise: Images showed that Pennywise is carrying eggs. “We hope we’ll be able to get her back out there into the wild as soon as possible so that she can lay those eggs,” Barron said. Loggerheads, an endangered species, often lay multiple clutches during a season, she said. Pennywise arrived at the center Monday, after a crew from Inwater Research Group found her floating in the Atlantic with significant blunt force trauma to her shell that had already started to heal. The staff at the Juno Beach turtle center estimated that Pennywise’s injuries were about a month old. Barron said the imaging showed some damage to bones that surround the spinal cord. They have the turtle on high-powered antibiotics. “Luckily, right now, her neurologic exam shows that all those nerves are intact. And that is a great sign for her. We’re very excited about that and we’ll just be rechecking to make sure that we have no progression of the disease, and as soon as we feel like that wound is healed well enough, she can go back out into the wild.” Even so, Barron said, Pennywise’s story is a “textbook case of a turtle returning to the area for mating and nesting season, only to fall victim to an entirely preventable boat-strike injury.” Because nesting season in Florida runs from March 1 to Oct. 31, officials at the sea turtle center are encouraging boaters to slow down and to be especially mindful in what they refer to as the Sea Turtle Protection Zone, which extends a mile (1.6 kilometers) off the coast. ___ Frisaro reported from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
