As thousands of people lined the streets to celebrate Liverpool Football Club’s English Premier League title win, a car collided with a number of pedestrians in the center of Liverpool, a city in northwest England, police said Monday.
Describing it as a “major incident” on X, Merseyside police said the car “stopped at the scene and a male detained.”
In separate statement, police said “the incident happened as thousands of fans lined the streets of the city to celebrate Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League title victory.
Footage of the scene showed police cordons in place around a heavily littered road and emergency vehicles in place.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes “appalling” in a post on X. “My thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” he said, adding that he was “being kept updated on developments.”
The Northwest Ambulance Service said in a statement that it was “assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services.”
“Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible,” the statement added.
An eyewitness, Natasha Rinaldi, told the British broadcaster Sky News that “people sounded desperate” and she saw the car had “run over people.” (Sky News is owned by Comcast, the parent company of NBC News.)
“Then people started rushing to go after the driver and they tried to break the car. The police did everything to block and to push people away,” Rinaldi said. “We could just hear screams and screams. We were very confused.”
“Some of my friends were down there and the car was so near them. It was a horrible scene, nobody was expecting it.”
Harry Rashid, 48, from Solihull, told Britain’s Press Association news agency that he was at the parade with his wife and two young daughters when he witnessed the collision.
“It happened about 10 feet away from us,” he said. “We were just in a crowd and we had no control over where we would be, because it was a very narrow street.”
“The vehicle came to our right. It emerged from just right next to an ambulance, which was parked up. This gray people carrier just pulled up from the right and just rammed into all the people at the side of us,” he added.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

Man detained after car ploughs into Liverpool parade
Man detained after car ploughs into Liverpool parade
A vehicle struck a number of people during Liverpool’s parade in celebration of their Premier League title success, British media have reported, with police confirming that an individual had been detained.
“We were contacted at just after 6pm (local time) following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street,” Merseyside Police said in a statement on Monday
“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.”
A 53-year-old white British man has been arrested, police confirmed.
A huge police cordon is in place on Water Street and emergency vehicles are lining the road.
A conscious man on a stretcher was seen being loaded into a St John’s ambulance and the paramedic told police he believed the Royal Hospital may be overwhelmed.
A number of police officers could be seen lining the junction of Castle Street and Water Street and firefighters were also on scene.
Emergency vehicles including ambulances were allowed out of the cordon to leave the area.
Liverpool sealed the title last month with four games to spare and ended the season with a 10-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.
They lifted the trophy after their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday.
During the celebrations earlier on Monday, the players and staff waved to the crowd from an open-top bus with the words ‘Ours. Again.’ emblazoned on the side, as red flares were lit along the route, running from Allerton Maze to Blundell Street.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Reportedly Has ‘Lootable Vehicles’
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Reportedly Has ‘Lootable Vehicles’
You can take the info away from the dataminers, but you can’t take the dataminers away from the info. Despite EA’s best efforts to keep things sealed tighter than a tank hatch, a fresh wave of leaks about Battlefield 6 has spilled out like a crate of C4 in a sandstorm, and it’s juicy.
Battlefield Labs’ internal testing has become a goldmine for early details, and from the sounds of it, the Battle Royale mode might just be the franchise’s most chaotic playground yet. And honestly? The most exciting feature so far isn’t a fancy new gun or tactical gimmick: it’s vehicles. Glorious, lootable, drivable, blow-up-able vehicles.
Battlefield 6’s vehicle madness is getting an upgrade
One of the most exciting new features revealed through recent datamining is all about vehicles, and it’s not just about driving them. According to details shared by dataminers on Reddit, Battlefield 6’s upcoming Battle Royale mode will introduce lootable vehicles.
Yes, you heard that right, and fans are already dissecting every piece of info with enthusiasm. In this mode, abandoned civilian and military vehicles scattered across the map can be looted for useful supplies like weapons, armor plates, or gadgets.
Some vehicles, however, come with a risk. When approached, they trigger alarms, alerting nearby enemies and adding tension to what would otherwise be a simple scavenging trip.
But the vehicle mechanics go much deeper. Combat vehicles can be unlocked by using special Vehicle Keycards, which players can find during matches or earn through in-game missions.
These keycards give access to Combat Vehicle Containers, which require players to defend the location while the vehicle is deployed. Once activated, the reward is worth the risk: heavily armored, powerful vehicles that can turn the tide of battle.
Dataminers are doing the heavy lifting, and players are loving it
Dataminers are doing more marketing than EA, and we’re not mad about it. | Image Credit: DICE
With EA staying silent on official details, it’s the community that’s doing the digging, quite literally. Dataminers have unearthed a trove of early information from Battlefield Labs playtests, and much of it has been compiled and shared on Reddit, where players are eagerly poring over every detail.
From new game mechanics to class-specific loot and gadgets, the leaks have painted a surprisingly clear picture of what Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale might look like.
Comment byu/temporyal from discussion inBattlefield
Comment byu/temporyal from discussion inBattlefield
Players seem especially drawn to the balance between chaos and coordination that’s being hinted at, whether it’s unlocking vehicles through missions, managing squad redeploys, or using the Oversight System to stay involved after death.
Additionally, vehicles will also need to be strategically managed, with limited-use resupply stations placed around the map. And if one team’s tank is becoming a problem, Anti-Tank Crates will spawn to give others a fighting chance.
It’s a mix of strategy, chaos, and pure Battlefield-style mayhem, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most engaging parts of the new mode. These elements suggest that the mode won’t just be dominated by vehicles; there’s a real layer of strategy underneath the explosions.
While EA or DICE has confirmed none of this, the response so far shows there’s genuine hype building for Battlefield 6.

Gold Valley iron ore exporting from Bunbury port in first ever South West shipping expansion
Gold Valley iron ore exporting from Bunbury port in first ever South West shipping expansion
Gold Valley iron ore, a Perth-based company, have expanded their reach to Southern WA exporting from the Bunbury port for the first time.
The decision to start exporting from Bunbury followed the company also beginning shipments from Esperance earlier this year.
Gold Valley chair Yuzheng Xie said expanding shipments to the regions would be beneficial for the company.
“We were confident working with Southern Ports to export the product for the long term, knowing it would be beneficial for Gold Valley and the port,” he said.
“This iron concentrate supplements our iron ore that we export through the Port of Esperance to our global steel manufacturer with Gold Valley currently supplying over seven countries.”
In two shipments in as many months, Gold Valley exported 93,000 tonnes of iron concentrate from Bunbury to China.
The first shipment from Bunbury departed on March 9 after seven days of loading the concentrate onto Bao Yue Ling. The second shipment followed in April.
Southern Ports chief executive officer Keith Wilks said he was pleased to have Gold Valley export from Bunbury port as well as Esperance.
“We’re always actively seeking new and expanded trade opportunities with current and potential customers to help diversify our services and stimulate trade,” Mr Wilks said.
“It’s fantastic to see that our partnership with Gold Valley has led to new opportunities to export through another one of our ports.
“We believe that strong regional ports contribute to strong regions, and this is the perfect example of this vision in action.”

splits emerge in Labour over supreme court’s gender ruling
splits emerge in Labour over supreme court’s gender ruling
After the *** supreme court delivered its ruling on gender recognition last month, the government verdict from Keir Starmer downwards was unanimous: this had brought welcome “clarity” to a vexed debate and everyone could move forward.
Nearly six weeks on and a growing number of Labour MPs, not to mention campaigners and human rights groups, are much less sure.
A parliamentary debate last week had a series of backbenchers questioning how the ruling that “woman” in the Equality Act refers only to a biological woman, and the subsequent advice from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) that in the light of this, transgender people should not be allowed to use toilets of the gender they live as, squares with the rights of trans constituents.
One senior Labour MP, Meg Hillier, highlighted the plight of a person who has long lived as a woman, uses women’s changing rooms in her job with the ambulance service, and now fears being forced to tell colleagues she is transgender. The supreme court ruling, Hillier argued, “creates a real mess that needs sorting out”.
In private, a number of MPs go further. While they accept the issue is complex, involving the sometimes overlapping and competing rights and needs of trans people and those who require single-sex spaces, they are increasingly frustrated with the way it has been handled.
“I wish ministers would stop staying it brings ‘clarity’, because it doesn’t,” one MP said. “It just opens up a huge legal can of worms. And then the EHRC just put rocket boosters under the uncertainty.”
There is particular disquiet at the role of the EHRC, the equality watchdog, which is drawing up formal statutory guidance for how organisations interpret the ruling.
Its interim advice, released nine days after the supreme court decision, has faced significant criticism for, as some put it, oversimplifying the consequences of an often nuanced ruling.
Most cited as a worry is the practical issue of whether transgender people, or even those whose appearance does not conform to gender norms, will now have toilets they can use in many public spaces without being challenged.
Roz Savage, the Liberal Democrat MP who organised last week’s debate, has urged ministers to act to prevent what she called “shrinking people’s lives”. She said: “If you don’t have a clear idea how you can go to the toilet without potentially getting into a confrontational situation then you’ll just avoid the situation, which is incredibly limiting.”
For now, the government says it is waiting for the EHRC. But there appears to be limited confidence in the organisation and its chair, Kishwer Falkner, from some MPs and even government officials.
Critics, including some EHRC staff, argue that the initial advice, which appears to have been drafted by a small team around Lady Falkner, showed a leadership team not equipped to handle such a weighty task.
At an internal EHRC meeting last week, one staffer asked Falkner why the only additional legal counsel she had taken on to help with the guidance was a barrister who previously acted for one of the women’s groups that took the issue to the supreme court in the first place. Falkner, insiders say, initially refused to answer what she called an “ideology based” question.
“The EHRC’s interim advice is the main cause of the problem so far,” another Labour MP said. “It seems to have been quite poorly led by a rightwing chair appointed by Liz Truss who I don’t think is particularly competent.”
A number of MPs, mainly Labour but also Lib Dem, are making their feelings known. A group of LGBTQ+ Labour MPs has met Nia Griffith, the junior equalities minister.
Christine Jardine, the Lib Dem spokesperson for women and equalities, who has expressed significant worries about the situation, is due to meet Bridget Phillipson, who leads on equalities issues as well as being the education secretary.
A key moment is likely to be 11 June, when the EHRC’s board of commissioners, comprising Falkner and six other senior figures, give evidence to the Commons women and equalities committee, where they are expected to be pressed on the concerns.
Such is the strength of feeling on all sides that one source said there was expected to be extra security in place for the hearing, in case of protests.
Some MPs argue that ministers misjudged how the talk of clarity felt to some people.
“I’m certainly looking for the government to be stronger on this,” one Labour MP said. “It seems to have gone very quiet. I get the sense that they’re not very keen on engaging. If they’re busy reading all the legal papers, then that’s good, but if they’re just hiding, it’s not.”
One government official said that while there was an acceptance the EHRC had “made a mess” out of the interim advice, the wider worry was that the watchdog had become so mired in the transgender debate it had lost sight of other equalities issues such as disability.
“In part it’s because the last government had one interest – prosecuting culture wars and sowing divisions rather than trying to answer the big questions,” they said. “We want a grown-up debate on this.”
Asked about the decision to instruct a barrister who had acted for one of the women’s groups, an EHRC spokesperson said: “As an impartial regulator, we seek external legal advice where necessary and have robust policies in place around that process. Such advice is unbiased and is grounded wholly in an analysis of the law as it stands.”

The “Large Challenge” That Elden Ring Nightreign Faced Would’ve Been a Breeze for Hidetaka Miyazaki
The “Large Challenge” That Elden Ring Nightreign Faced Would’ve Been a Breeze for Hidetaka Miyazaki
Elden Ring Nightreign is closer than ever, and with FromSoftware’s latest gamble being on the tip of its release, queries and interviews are flying about everywhere. One of these interviews reveals a massive problem during the development faced by the game director Junya Ishizaki that would have been a piece of cake for Hidetaka Miyazaki.
It is odd to see the renowned director not personally overseeing and directing a FromSoftware game. But it has happened before and has happened once again, all because of the same reasons: Mr. Miyazaki was seemingly already busy with another project at hand, that too, a collaborative one.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s developmental challenge that would have been no problem for Hidetaka Miyazaki
Think about Elden Ring, or maybe even the whole Souls genre, for a minute or two. The fact that these games are insanely difficult is bound to come to mind. All thanks to the renowned director forming a direct connection with these titles’ storylines, with the increased and intense difficulty.
However, as Elden Ring Nightreign takes a step into the world of multiplayer experiences, one of the first for FromSoftware, that is, tackling the difficulty balance in the game became a bit trickier, as Junya Ishizaki reveals in an interview with IGN:
Of course, game balance was a large part of it. Balancing and tweaking the game difficulty is always a large challenge when it comes to these games, along with responding to user feedback and incorporating that into the game as well. So we’re continuing to look at that, but it was generally interesting to see player behavior, and get some good feedback from how players played the game and interacted with the systems.
For more context, this particular statement from the game’s director came after he was asked about what lessons the studio was able to learn after receiving player feedback during the closed network tests. Ishizaki then discloses how this feedback gave more insight into how FromSoftware needs to work more on balancing the difficulty and the game as a whole.
Why Hidetaka Miyazaki could play an important role in the future of Elden Ring Nightreign
Hidetaka Miyazaki has built his legacy on making difficult games | Creator’s Voice Blog
If you haven’t pieced together the puzzle yet, let me clear it up for you. The whole dilemma of Elden Ring Nightreign possibly being too hard, or maybe too easy in some key areas, would not have been a problem for Hidetaka Miyazaki, and that is because the director has been straightforward with his policies regarding how difficulty is more than just a mechanic in his titles.
Granted that the upcoming game is a multiplayer title, I do still believe Hidetaka Miyazaki, with his decades of experience in managing and tweaking around the Souls genre to perfection, wouldn’t have let the dilemma arise in the first place.
Currently, the director seems to be busier with The Duskbloods, another upcoming FromSoftware multiplayer title that will be exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch 2 and is being directed by Miyazaki himself. Maybe after freeing up from there, he can scoop up some of his expertise and pour it over to Elden Ring Nightreign, improving its post-launch updates and consistency.
Elden Ring Nightreign will be officially released on May 30, 2025, and available on PC, Xbox One/Series S/Series X, and PlayStation 4/5.

Steel Seed (XS) Review | VGChartz
VGChartz’s Lee Mehr: “Steel Seed finds itself in a strange bind: a high-wire juggling act that equally deserves praise and admonition. To Storm in a Teacup’s credit, it’s genuinely audacious to shift gears from mechanically-light walking sims and smaller experiments to a maximalist stealth-action-platformer confection; at the same time, I wish the team had picked a ******** lane. Fusing such disparate design tempos for the first time ultimately reveals the weakest link between them, which also in turn partly poisons the experience. Tie that in with a factory-made narrative and aesthetic, and what’s left is a project I’m left to admire more than I can recommend.”

Workday Stock Price Implosion: An Automatic Buy for AI Investors
Workday Stock Price Implosion: An Automatic Buy for AI Investors
Workday Inc (NASDAQ:)’s May stock price implosion is a signal for AI investors to buy. The drop was caused by a tepid guide that included an expectation for sustained and accelerating double-digit growth and comes with a high likelihood of being beaten. Not only has Workday outperformed its consensus estimates for top and bottom line results 99.5% of the time since 2020, but the Q2 outlook and reaffirmed 2025 guidance reflect none of the Q1 strength.
Workday Today
The Q1 strengths are substantial, including backlog growth, margin expansion, and free cash flow improvements. The takeaway for investors is that at $235, Workday’s price offers a low risk-to-reward profile and potential catalyst for higher prices in upcoming earnings reports.
Analysts are a headwind in late Q2 but are helping to set up a stock price rebound for later in the year. Most revisions following the Q2 release are price target reductions, with the low end leading to the $250 level. The critical details are that this stock remains a Moderate Buy rated and the revision activity aligns with the consensus estimates.
The total and trimmed revisions average is $290, about $3 or 100 basis points below the consensus. Consensus forecasts an 18-month closing high, a 17% gain from the critical support level; the market catalyst will be a reversion to price target increases spurred by upcoming business strength.
Workday Builds Momentum in Q1 With Agentic AI and Automation
Workday had a solid quarter in Q1 with its core subscription business growing by 13.4%, driving a 12.6% top-line gain, 100 basis points better than MarketBeat’s reported consensus. The strength is in long-term contracts and large clients, including increased business with names like Chipotle ******** Grill (NYSE:) and new business with names like United Airlines and Dover Corporation (NYSE:).
Other strengths were seen in the margins. The company expanded its gross and operating margins due to improved revenue leverage and operational quality, driving a 430-basis-point increase in the adjusted operating margin and a significant improvement in cash flow and free cash flow.
Adjusted profit grew by 31% and adjusted earnings by 28%, outpacing the consensus by 1100 basis points, while cash flow increased by 22% and free cash flow by 44%. The critical takeaway is that the free cash flow is sufficient to cover the share buybacks and sustain the healthy balance sheet.
The guidance is the market’s sticking point. The company reaffirmed the outlook for 2025 despite the Q1 strength, forecasting a weaker-than-consensus result in Q2. However, Q2 subscription revenue growth is predicted to accelerate, and the guidance is likely low. Details like the 15.6% increase in long-term subscription backlog and 19% increase in total subscription backlog suggest the outperformance could be substantial.
Workday’s Balance Sheet Is a Fortress for Tech Investors to Take Shelter In
Workday’s balance sheet is a fortress and getting stronger by the quarter. The improved cash flow allows for accelerating share repurchases, which are on the brink of overtaking dilutive actions, including share-based compensation.
Highlights at the end of Q1 include reduced cash and total assets, flat equity and share count, but leverage remains low, the company is net cash, and the stage is set for value gains later in the year.
The question now is what the institutions will do. The institutions own about 90% of the stock and are the primary force behind long-term market direction. They have been buying in 2025, but activity slowed in Q2. The post-release price plunge puts the market back into the institutional buying range.
If they fail to support the market now, this stock could fall below critical support and revert to previous lows.

Egyptian archaeologists discover three tombs in Luxor
Egyptian archaeologists discover three tombs in Luxor
Egypt has unveiled three new tombs of prominent statesman in the Dra Abu al-Naga necropolis in Luxor, officials say.
Egyptian archaeologists have discovered tombs dating back to the New Kingdom ******* (1550-1070 BC) and identified the names and titles of their owners through inscriptions found within, according to a statement by the tourism and antiquities ministry on Monday.
Mohamed Ismail Khaled, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said in the statement that further study of other tombs’ inscriptions is needed to gain a deeper understanding of the tombs’ owners.
The ministry released pictures of items discovered in the tombs, including artefacts and statues. The discovery comes in the lead-up to the highly anticipated full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is expected this summer, though a final official date is yet to be confirmed. The museum will showcase more than 100,000 artefacts from Egypt’s rich ancient heritage.
One of the tombs discovered in Luxor on Monday belonged to Amum-em-Ipet, from the Ramesside *******, who worked in the estate of Amun. His tomb was mostly destroyed and what remained were depictions of the ******** furniture carriers and a banquet.
Amun-Im-Ipet’s tomb begins with a small courtyard leading to an entrance and then a square hall ending with a niche, whose western wall was destroyed.
The other tombs date back to the 18th Dynasty and include one belonging to a man named Baki, who served as a supervisor of the grain silo. Another tomb contains the burial of an individual named “S”, who held multiple roles – he was a supervisor at the Temple of Amun in the oasis, a writer and the mayor of the northern oases.
Baki’s tomb has a courtyard leading to the main entrance of the tomb as well as a long corridor-like courtyard. It also has a transverse hall leading to another longitudinal hall that leads up to an unfinished chamber that contains a burial well.
Meanwhile, the other tomb that belongs to “S” has a small courtyard with a well, the tomb’s main entrance, and a transverse hall that leads to an incomplete longitudinal hall.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi described the discovery as a significant scientific and archaeological achievement, noting that it is one of the areas poised to greatly boost cultural tourism and attract more visitors with an interest in Egypt’s rich heritage.
In January, Egypt made several discoveries near the famed city of Luxor, including ancient rock-cut tombs and burial shafts dating back 3600 years. They were unearthed at the causeway of Queen Hatshepsut’s funerary temple at Deir al-Bahri on the Nile’s West Bank.
Late last year, Egyptian and American archaeologists excavated an ancient tomb with 11 sealed burials near Luxor. The tomb, which dates to the Middle Kingdom, was found in the South Asasif necropolis, next to the Temple of Hatshepsut.

‘Earth’s expanding oceans are following suit’
‘Earth’s expanding oceans are following suit’
The rate at which sea levels rise is increasing, researchers say, and last year the levels climbed more than 30% over what was expected.
What’s happening?
NASA announced that global sea levels rose by 0.23 inches in 2024, exceeding the predicted rise of 0.17 inches.
The rate has more than doubled since satellites started recording ocean heights in 1993. And since that time, the sea level has risen by 4 inches.
“The rise we saw in 2024 was higher than we expected,” researcher Josh Willis said in a statement. “Every year is a little bit different, but what’s clear is that the ocean continues to rise, and the rate of rise is getting faster and faster.”
Why do rising sea levels matter?
As NDTV reports, the majority of that 2024 increase came from the thermal expansion of water within oceans. In past years, most of the rise came from melting glaciers.
Typically, warm water floats on top of cooler, denser water in the ocean, and the heat only moves slowly down. But extremely windy weather — such as the severe weather that occurs more often as the climate warms — can cause that water to mix vertically, increasing its temperature and causing it to expand.
Watch now: Giant snails invading New York City?
“With 2024 as the warmest year on record, Earth’s expanding oceans are following suit, reaching their highest levels in three decades,” NASA’s Nadya Vinogradova Shiffer said.
Scientists have predicted that, if the planet continues down this path, sea levels by 2100 could be at least 1.4 feet higher and up to 6.6 feet higher. That could wipe out entire coastal cities.
What can I do about rising sea levels?
The way to stop, or reverse, rising sea levels is to stop the planet’s warming trend.
On an individual level, understanding what issues impact the climate is the first step. From there, you can take actions in your everyday life that will decrease your carbon footprint. Whether the action is small, such as using less plastic, or large, such as switching to an electric vehicle, it can make a difference.
If you live in an area prone to extreme weather, make sure you are well-prepared.
That could include installing solar panels, which, in conjunction with a battery system, can ensure you have power when you need it without relying on a grid that may be prone to lengthy outages. Using free tools, such as those offered by EnergySage, can save you thousands of dollars on a solar installation, in part by helping you compare quotes from vetted installers.

‘The signs are really promising’
‘The signs are really promising’
After several years of efforts at controlling an invasive predator species, a rare shorebird called the curlew is making a comeback in the Orkney archipelago of Scotland, the BBC reported.
The issue these birds faced was stoats — an animal similar to a large weasel, which, in addition to hunting rabbits and smaller rodents, also eats birds and their eggs. It’s not entirely clear how stoats made their way to the islands; they may have been stowaways on cargo ships carrying hay or other imports, or they may have been introduced intentionally to kill rabbits.
Regardless of the reasons, the ground-nesting curlews were easy prey for the invasive stoats, and in 2019, it appeared that the curlew population had decreased by half in a mere decade, with only 12 breeding pairs of the birds per square mile across the territory.
That was when the Orkney Native Wildlife Project leapt into action, beginning a project to humanely cull over 7,000 stoats in the six years since. It is believed to be the biggest predator cull conducted on an inhabited island, and it achieved results. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds says the curlew population is up 21% in the archipelago (unlike the rest of Scotland and the *** where they’re still declining), and there are now 14.5 breeding pairs per square mile.
“It is fantastic to see that the hard work of the project team and many volunteers is starting to restore a positive future for vulnerable species in Orkney,” Anne McCall, director of RSPB Scotland, told the BBC. “This is the first major population survey for waders since work started to remove stoats from Orkney and the signs are really promising, as we see declines for curlew reversed.”
The recovery of the curlew in Scotland is not to be taken for granted. The related slender-billed curlew was officially declared extinct in 2024 after many years without sightings. Matthews defiant but England complete T20 clean sweep
Matthews defiant but England complete T20 clean sweep
England have completed a 3-0 clean sweep in their T20 series against West Indies despite a superb all-round display from opposing captain Hayley Matthews at Chelmsford.
Matthews, who led Melbourne Renegades to victory over Brisbane Heat in last December’s WBBL final where she was named player of the match, took three for 32 as England were restricted to 5-144.
She then cracked 71 from 54 ****** as the tourists looked to salvage some pride in the series on Monday.
Yet it was not enough as England, for whom Heather Knight earlier top-scored with an unbeaten 66, limited the West Indies to 8-127 to secure a 17-run victory.
Matthews put England in to bat after winning the toss and was rewarded with a disciplined display from her attack.
Zaida James removed Danni Wyatt-Hodge with the first ball of the match – her second successive golden duck – and Sophia Dunkley also fell cheaply.
New captain Nat Sciver-Brunt (37) and Knight repaired the innings before Amy Jones added a useful 22.
Knight occupied 47 ******, hitting seven fours and a six in what was her eighth T20 international half-century, although it did come at the cost of a hamstring injury.
The West Indies also lost a wicket first ball as Lauren Bell bowled Qiana Joseph but Matthews ensured their reply built momentum.
She lacked significant support with Realeanna Grimmond (15) remarkably dropped off three successive ****** before holing out to Wyatt-Hodge off the bowling of Charlie Dean.
A rain interruption also broke Matthews’ flow and the visitors’ hopes effectively ended when the skipper became the sixth wicket to fall when she was caught on the boundary by Em Arlott off Bell.

Memorial Day morning shooting at Cascades Park in Tallahassee injures two
Memorial Day morning shooting at Cascades Park in Tallahassee injures two
A Memorial Day early morning shooting at Cascades Park has left two people injured.
Shortly after 4 a.m. on May 26, the Tallahassee Police Department responded to a call about a drive-by shooting near the city’s crown jewel park in the 1000 block of South Gadsden Street.
While the investigation is in its preliminary phases, a TPD Watch Commander told the Democrat that officers determined the incident was not a drive-by shooting.
He was unable to provide other details about the circumstances of the case or the victims, because it remains an open and active case.
He said, however, that investigators determined the public is not endangered.
“At this time we have no reason to believe that a suspect is at large,” he said.
One person was reportedly grazed in the shooting, according to the Democrat’s sources, but the other injury was more serious.
The watch commander declined to comment on the extent of the injuries, but said both were transported to the hospital.
“The injuries are believed to be non-life threatening at this time,” he said.
So far in 2025, 10 people have died and at least 22 have been injured in 29 serious city and county shootings, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.
(This story has been updated with the latest count of the number of shootings).

Far-right marchers attack Palestinians as Israel marks taking of Jerusalem

Israeli police remove a right-wing activist in Jerusalem’s Old City
Crowds of far-right Israelis chanted insults and assaulted Palestinians during an annual parade for Jerusalem Day on Monday.
Chants of “death to Arabs” and nationalistic slogans were repeated during the event, which commemorates Israeli forces taking ************-majority East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
Violence broke out as ultranationalist Jews streamed into ************ areas of Jerusalem’s walled Old City.
Opposition Leader Yair Lapid said the event had become a festival of “hatred and racism”, adding it was “a disgrace and an insult to Judaism”.

Israeli police were deployed as violence broke out in the walled Old City of Occupied East Jerusalem shortly after midday.
Thousands of nationalist Israelis descended to Damascus Gate, one of the main entrances. Right-wing activists held banners that read “67 – Jerusalem in our hands; 2025 – Gaza in our hands.”
Arab traders in the ******* Quarter who had yet to close their shops were harassed by young Israeli men, witnesses said.
Chants of “May your village burn” and “Your home will be ours” were heard throughout the march.
Aggressive marchers were detained and removed from the Old City by Israeli police.
National security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, of the Jewish Power party, called for the death penalty for “terrorists” in an address to the crowds.
Gvir also visited the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, the third holiest site in Islam and known by Jews as the Temple Mount. Jews revere it as the location of two Biblical Temples and it is the holiest site in Judaism.
The compound is administered by a Jordanian Islamic trust. Jews are allowed to visit but not pray there.
A spokesman for the ************ presidency, based in the West Bank, condemned the march and Ben Gvir’s visit to Al-Aqsa.
Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, “repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa mosque compound and provocative acts such as raising the Israeli flag in occupied Jerusalem threaten the stability of the entire region,” Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement.
In a cabinet meeting on Monday morning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to keep Jerusalem “united, whole, and under Israeli sovereignty”.

Left-wing opposition leader Yair Golan described images of violence in the Old City as “shocking”.
“This is what hatred, racism and bullying look like,” he said in a statement on X.
“We will fight for Jerusalem for all of us, Jews, Christians and Muslims, secular and religious.
“Jerusalem belongs to all those who love her. We will fight for her and restore her as a city for us all.”
Lapid, another opposition leader, added: “There is nothing Jewish about this violence. The government ministers who remain silent in the face of these events are complicit in this disgrace.”
Every year thousands of Israelis march a route through Jerusalem and the annexed Old City, ending at the Western Wall, the holiest site where Jews are allowed to pray in Jerusalem. On Sunday, a large Israeli flag was unfurled at the Western Wall plaza.
The parade mark Israel’s capture of East Jerusalem in the 1967 war and the “unification” of a city that the Israeli government says is their eternal capital.
Palestinians also want Jerusalem as their future capital and much of the international community regards East Jerusalem as Israeli-occupied ************ territory.
This year’s Flag March again coincided with the war in Gaza and escalating Israeli military operations against ************ militants in the West Bank.
Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to ******’s cross-border attack on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage. Fifty-seven are still being held, about 20 of whom are assumed to be alive.
At least 53,939 people, including at least 16,500 children, have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the territory’s health ministry.
