Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Review [Capsule Computers]
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Review [Capsule Computers]
Travis of Capsule Computers writes:
“When it comes to some of Capcom’s beloved franchises, Onimusha generally isn’t one of the titles that will get mentioned much. This is partially due to the fact that, outside of a remaster of the first game in 2019, the last new Onimusha title was released nearly twenty years ago. Then, the announcement of a brand new entry in the form of Onimusha: Way of the Sword makes all the more sense, ready to arrive next year at that twenty year mark. In an effort to bring more light to the Onimusha name and also make the PlayStation 2 original actually available to audiences to enjoy as a whole, Capcom has now given the remaster treatment to Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. Bringing with it a number of quality of life improvements and some minor graphical improvements, is this remaster a successful transformation?”

Older people worry about rising energy bills, rent and food costs
Older people worry about rising energy bills, rent and food costs
Age ***
Financial insecurity is leaving some older Londoners in a constant state of anxiety
Growing economic hardship is leaving many older Londoners anxious, causing them to lose sleep and feel isolated, according to Age ***.
A report from the charity has found many older people struggling financially, facing digital exclusion, and having difficulties dealing with increasing costs of housing and home maintenance.
Age *** London spoke to people in the capital aged over 50 to build a picture of their daily lives in their own words.
The charity’s polling found 38% of older Londoners reported concerns about getting into energy debt over unpaid bills.
Heating or eating
Age *** said there was “a significant and concerning lack of awareness among some respondents” about different ways to save energy.
The report said: “Many people told us how they either do not turn on the heating or find many ways to cut back.”
Polling carried out by Opinium for the charity focused on how older people were managing the cost of living in a time of rising prices.
It found that one in four older Londoners said their home was colder than they would like it to be “all of the time” or “most of the time”.
More than one in three (36%) older Londoners said they felt less financially secure heading into 2025 than at the start of 2024.
The government’s decision in July make Winter Fuel Payments means-tested, with only households receiving Pension Credit or certain other means-tested benefits eligible to receive the benefit, has also had an impact.
One respondent told Age ***: “Withdrawing the Winter Fuel Payments is a blow.
“A lot of struggling pensioners, who have small occupational pensions and a modest amount of savings, are not considered poor enough to qualify for Pension Credit and will lose out and may have to choose between heating and eating.”
Age ***
Caring duties affect the ability of some older Londoners to be able to work
Margaret, who is retired, told BBC London she had had to sell her jewellery to make ends meet.
She said she sold a bracelet and two rings, including her engagement ring, “to a proper jewellers, but I got £127”.
She added: “But it did mean that at least I had some money until the end of the month, when my pension had run out. How was I going to have dinner for the next week?”
Age *** said financial insecurity was leaving some older Londoners in a constant state of anxiety.
As well as worries about energy bills, nearly half of respondents reported finding it difficult to “shop around” for more affordable prices and better deals when it comes to food shopping.
Some older Londoners are unable to afford repairs and maintenance, leading to vital home repairs being postponed indefinitely.
Challenges with accessing the internet, including the cost of getting online, mean that some older Londoners are at greater risk of financial exclusion.
The cost of living is leading many older Londoners to continue to work long after pension age or to return to work after a “first retirement”, Age *** said.
Worsening isolation
The report said worries included “running out of savings, facing unexpected costs, or losing government support”.
It states: “They regularly stress over bills, such as energy bills, rent increases and mortgages with many respondents expressing deep distress over financial instability.
“Some older Londoners are experiencing loss of sleep due to financial worries, and some report that the inability to afford leisure activities and social outings is worsening their isolation.”
John McGeachy, campaigns manager from Age *** London, told BBC London that the charity spoke to people who had sold their TV or microwave to make ends meet.
He said: “One of the things that really upset me reading the research was people putting off meeting up with friends, because they knew they could not afford the journey there – or if you get to the coffee shop and it’s £4 for a coffee that’s a heck of a lot of money that you could spend on quite a few meals at home.
“So people missing out on really basic things and that social interaction which is so important to our health.”
Age *** London wants the government to introduce simplified benefit applications, stronger rent protections and improved mental health support “to help older Londoners navigate financial difficulties with dignity and security”.

Axiom’s Ax-4 Private Space Mission to ISS Cleared for June 8 Launch via SpaceX
Axiom’s Ax-4 Private Space Mission to ISS Cleared for June 8 Launch via SpaceX
Axiom Space’s fourth ISS private mission passed a big milestone, and the Ax-4 flight is now targeted to lift off on June 8 at 9:11 a.m. EDT (1311 GMT). The four-person mission will launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and a new Dragon capsule with an international crew. The 14-day mission will include more than 60 scientific and outreach experiments on the orbiting lab, the most research-oriented trip Axiom has ever promoted.
Ax-4 Mission to ISS Promotes Global Science as Axiom Preps for Private Space Station
As per Axiom Space, on May 21, an internal Flight Readiness Review confirmed all systems and personnel were ready for launch. Heading up the Ax-4 mission is veteran NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, who will be flying to space for the fifth time and the second time for Axiom. At Whitson’s side will be India’s Shubhanshu Shukla, Poland’s Sławosz Uznański (the European Space Agency representative), and Hungary’s Tibor Kapu. It will be the first spaceflight for all three and the first ISS visit for their respective countries.
The Ax-4 mission will contribute experiments from 31 countries, with significant participation from Poland and Hungary. ESA is supporting 17 experiments, while Hungary’s HUNOR space program is providing 25. Axiom’s Allen Flynt stated that missions like Ax-4 promote global representation and prepare the company for future operations aboard its planned private station, expected to begin deployment in 2027.
NASA’s Dana Weigel claims that private missions like Ax-4 help bridge potential research gaps caused by budget constraints and limited government flights. The mission enhances international scientific cooperation and adds depth to ISS science output during fiscal uncertainty.
The crew will launch aboard a newly built Crew Dragon spacecraft, whose name will be announced by the astronauts themselves. Axiom sees this mission as a foundational step toward operating its orbiting station, with future missions likely to expand on Ax-4’s global collaboration model.

Einstein Probe Detects Mysterious X-ray Flare with Record-Long Emission
Einstein Probe Detects Mysterious X-ray Flare with Record-Long Emission
Fast Evolving X-ray Transients (FEXTs) are intense bursts of soft X-ray emissions that can last for minutes to hours with a wide range of luminosities. Due to their enigmatic nature, FEXTs have been a importance for scientists. Einstein Probe (EP) is one of the crucial space telescopes for the search and investigation of FEXTs. An international team of astronomers using the Einstein Probe reports the discovery of a new peculiar fast-evolving X-transient. The newfound transient exhibits an unprecedentedly long-lasting X-ray emission.
A Puzzling Long-Lived X-ray Transient
The finding was detailed in a paper published May 12 on the arXiv preprint server. According to the published paper, the newfound peculiar FEXT, dubbed EP241021a, was detected on Oct 21, 2024, with the help of EP’s wide-field X-ray telescope (WXT). EP241021a was identified by WXT as an intense flare, which lasted for approximately 92 seconds and reached a luminosity of about one quindecillion erg/s. The X-ray spectrum of the flare was found to be relatively hard with a photon index of 1.8.
The team of astronomers, led by Xinwen Shu of the Anhui Normal University in China, has concluded that EP241021a is an extremely unusual transient mainly due to its extended emission *******. Follow-up observations of the flare up to 79 days after its detection revealed that its X-ray light curve shows a nearly plateau phase for the first 7 days, which is followed by a steep decline during the ******* of about 30 days. Afterward, the X-ray emission rapidly drops under the detection level.
The researchers also detected significant multiwavelength signals associated with EP241021a. About 1.8 days after the initial X-ray detection, optical emissions were also detected. This emission is likely connected to the flare’s afterglow.
Possible origins
The origin of FEXTs is puzzling. Astronomers try to explain their origin take into account several scenarios; for instance, stellar flares, supernova shock breakouts, or long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Trying to explain the origin of EP241021a, the authors of the paper favor two scenarios. These are: a magnetar engine, involving a highly magnetized neutron star, or a jetted tidal disruption event (TDE), where a star is consumed by a ****** hole.

Williams stable celebrate whopping $1.1 million Alsephina ***** ahead of Western Empire’s Belmont Sprint tilt
Williams stable celebrate whopping $1.1 million Alsephina ***** ahead of Western Empire’s Belmont Sprint tilt
Grant and Alana Williams have a chance to cap an already remarkable week with Western Empire in Pinjarra’s transferred Group 3 $200,000 Belmont Sprint (1400m).
On Tuesday, the Williams’ bonny mare Alsephina sold for $1.1 million to Katsumi Yoshida of Japan at the Gold Coast National Broodmare *****, ending her whirlwind tenure for the husband-wife training duo.
Her ***** price almost matched her deeds on the track, retiring with stakes of over $1.1 million after running in March’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill.
“Ï thought she could make $1 million. The reserve was a lot lower, but I said to them, ‘put a realistic, conservative reserve on her and get her on the market’ and the market took care of the rest,” her consigner Julian Blaxland said.
“She’s a beautiful mare, great physical and she rated really well with all the ratings guys. She was a proper mare, she might have only been a Group 2 winner, but she was certainly Group 1 calibre.”
Despite the excitement, Grant Williams remains all business at the stable’s Karnup property to ready Western Empire for the Belmont Sprint.
After the latter half of Belmont’s Saturday fixture was postponed due to track issues, Williams had to take evasive action to ensure the gelding’s preparation was spot on.
“On Sundays, every horse in our place has the day off,” Williams told TABradio.
“They have a light day on the Friday and just go on the water walker, so we couldn’t afford to give them an easy day Saturday as well.
“We galloped a few of those horses that weren’t able to race on Saturday, on Sunday.
“We took him to the old hill on Sunday just for a change and he worked really good.
“(Alana) is happy with him, so that’s good enough for me.”
A $4.20 TABtouch second elect trailing favourite West Star ($3), Western Empire is awkwardly drawn in gate 14 but will be suited to the rise to 1400m.
“We’ll still be three deep with cover at some stage,” Williams said.
“Belmont does suit the horse; it’s a big open track. It’s not ideal (to be at Pinjarra), but at least we’re going around.
“The only way we could be at 1200m again (like last start) would be because we needed a run or something like that.
Camera IconWestern Empire wins the 2024 Belmont Sprint for jockey William Pike Credit: Simon Merritt/Simon Merritt / Western Racepix
“That won’t happen again and we’ll change our course next time, and go back to the longer races.”
The son of Iffraaj is the defending champion of the Belmont Sprint having beaten Searchin’ Roc’s by a nose last year. He went on to run in the Hyperion and Strickland Stakes (1600m and 2000m) subsequent to that run, with Williams indicating that may again be the case.
This Saturday’s Belmont meeting has also been shifted to Pinjarra with further extensive testing commissioned to external consultants Ground Science and Living Turf, who will analyse both the surface of the track and soil and sand profiles beneath.

New ***** Erectus Fossils Reveal Ancient Migration Across Drowned Sundaland
New ***** Erectus Fossils Reveal Ancient Migration Across Drowned Sundaland
***** erectus, an extinct human ancestor is an important part of our evolutionary history. Emerging at least 2 million years ago, it was the first species to develop human-like body proportions and the first human species to migrate out of Africa, eventually finding its way to Southeast Asia. ***** erectus was first discovered in Java and was known as “Java Man” until the species was officially renamed. Long thought to have been isolated on the island of Java, two fossil fragments of a ***** erectus skull—which surfaced with recent ocean dredging in preparation for the construction of an artificial island—revealed that this hominin species migrated and spread throughout the islands when they could still walk over bridges of land.
The drowned Sundaland
According to four studies published in Quaternary Environments and Human, by archaeologist Harold Berghuis and his team, these lost lands, called drowned Sundaland, were once vast open plains interspersed with rivers around 140,000 years ago.
During the glacial ******* that chilled the Earth 140,000 years ago, sea levels in the Indonesian region of Sundaland were low enough for present-day islands to tower like mountain ranges with a lowland savannah stretching between them. It was an expanse of mostly dry grasslands with strips of forest edging the rivers, and animals like crocodiles, river sharks, elephants, hippos, rhinos, and Komodo dragons flourished in the region.
Hunting and Cultural exchanges
Berghuis and his team argue that these ancient rivers provided not just water, but sustenance through fruit-bearing trees, fish, shellfish, and edible plants. Tool marks on bones Fossils show that ***** erectus hunted river turtles and large terrestrial animals.
The hunting techniques observed, such as targeting animals in their prime, are typically associated with more modern humans, raising questions about whether this H. erectus group developed such strategies independently or learned them through cultural exchange with other human relatives like Denisovans or Neanderthals. H. erectus is believed to have survived on Java until about 117,000 years ago, well after it disappeared elsewhere in Asia.

EU ministers approve new 150 billion-euro arms fund
EU ministers approve new 150 billion-euro arms fund
By Andrew Gray
BRUSSELS (Reuters) -The European Union on Tuesday approved the creation of a 150 billion-euro ($170.7 billion) EU arms fund, driven by fears of a Russian attack in the coming years and doubts about U.S. security commitments to the continent.
The approval, by ministers from EU countries meeting in Brussels, was the final legal step in setting up the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) scheme, using joint EU borrowing to give loans to European countries for joint defence projects.
The measure was backed by 26 of the EU’s 27 member countries, with Hungary abstaining, diplomats said.
“We adopted SAFE – first large-scale defence investment programme on the EU level,” Poland, which holds the EU’s rotating presidency, said on X.
“The more we invest in our security, the better we deter those who wish us harm.”
The European Commission, the EU’s executive body, proposed the fund in March as fears grew among European leaders that they could not be sure that U.S. President Donald Trump‘s administration would defend them from attack.
Alarmed by Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and fearing they could be Moscow’s next target, EU countries have already increased defence spending by more than 30% in the past three years. But EU leaders say that is not enough.
Moscow has condemned the EU’s rearmament push as an incitement to war based on an “invented story” of a Russian threat. Such words have not reassured European leaders, as Russia made similar statements before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The EU initiative seeks to break down national barriers by financing joint projects between EU countries and includes a strong “buy European” element as it aims to boost the continent’s defence industry.
For a project to qualify for SAFE funding, 65% of its value must come from companies based in the EU, the broader European Economic Area, or Ukraine.
However, companies from countries that have signed a Security and Defence Partnership with the EU can also be eligible, if they meet further conditions.
Britain signed such an agreement with the EU earlier this month, bringing British companies such as BAE Systems a step closer to participation in SAFE projects.
The Commission used a fast-track procedure to launch the legislation, bypassing the European Parliament and only requiring the approval of EU governments.

Quantum Tech Could Finally Let Astronomers Snap Direct Images of Earth-Like Exoplanets
Quantum Tech Could Finally Let Astronomers Snap Direct Images of Earth-Like Exoplanets
A team of U.S.-based astronomers is building a new kind of coronagraph — one powered by quantum mechanics — that could enable direct imaging of Earth-like exoplanets previously considered too faint or too close to their host stars to detect. Traditional telescopes have advanced since Galileo’s time, with instruments like the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) now capable of analysing distant planetary atmospheres. But even these devices generally are not able to capture images of planets and asteroids that orbit nearby bright stars, as their light is frequently drowned out. Now, a breakthrough could be in sight.
Quantum-Sensitive Coronagraph May Revolutionize Exoplanet Imaging With Sub-Diffraction Precision
As per a recent Space.com report, researchers from the University of Arizona and the University of Maryland have developed a “quantum-sensitive” coronagraph that filters starlight before it reaches the telescope’s detector. By exploiting differences in the spatial modes of photons — how light waves behave in space — the device physically separates planetary light from overwhelming stellar glare. “This method routes photons to different regions before they even hit the sensor,” one co-author explained, emphasising its superiority to digital image processing.
This experimental device uses a “spatial mode sorter”, a series of precision-crafted optical phase masks that redirect light waves from exoplanets, allowing astronomers to view them below the diffraction limit. Normally, achieving this resolution would require telescopes too massive for current spaceflight capabilities. But quantum engineering may bypass that need altogether, provided that light purity — known as mode fidelity — reaches the stringent 1-in-a-billion requirement needed to block star photons while preserving exoplanet signals.
In lab tests, researchers successfully simulated star-planet systems and demonstrated that their system could resolve a dim, Earth-like planet even when positioned one-tenth the distance modern coronagraphs can handle. At higher star-to-planet contrast ratios — up to 1,000:1 — the device maintained accuracy within a few percentage points of theoretical limits, showcasing its potential for space-based observatories.
The technology could augment missions like NASA’s upcoming Habitable Worlds Observatory, designed to detect biosignatures on exoplanets. While scientists caution that the method isn’t a standalone solution, they believe it could dramatically expand the toolkit for planetary discovery. The findings were published on April 22 in Optica.

Jupiter Was Once Twice as Big With 50x Stronger Magnetism, Says New Study
Jupiter Was Once Twice as Big With 50x Stronger Magnetism, Says New Study
Recent research has given evidence that Jupiter was twice its current size in the past, around 3.8 million years ago, and could accommodate 2000 Earths at once. However, it is still the largest planet in the solar system. It also had a magnetic field 50 times stronger than now. This research offered valuable insights into the earlier years of Jupiter and how it shaped the solar system. By knowing the imprints of the orbital tilts, scientists were able to trace the size and magnetic power of Jupiter.
Studying Jupiter’s Small Moons
According to the study published on May 20, 2025, in Nature Astronomy, researchers unveiled that Jupiter was once twice its current size. This research was led by Professor Konstantin Batygin of the California Institute of Technology. Batygin’s team focused on Jupiter’s small inner moons, Thebe and Amalthea, instead of estimating how fast gas giants accumulate mass. These satellites move in orbit close to the planet on a little tilted path.
Jupiter Twice in its Size in the Past
The team analysed and revealed that the infant Jupiter had a radius double that of present and a volume that can occupy 2000 Earths, whereas at present, 1321 Earths can occupy Jupiter. This expansion means that the massive, gas-rich envelope later contracted with time. The strong magnetic power in the past years influenced the surrounding space and matter in different ways, thus it provides the dynamics of the early solar system.
Jupiter’s Influence on the Solar System
The study didn’t show how this giant member of the solar system shaped other planets, but highlighted that the gas giant played a significant role in the organisation of the solar system through its gravitational pull. Knowing this phase helps the researchers reshape the forces that defined our neighbourhood.
A Benchmark for Planetary Science
As per Batygin, these findings provide a valuable benchmark for further models of how the solar system formed. Jupiter showed a significant evolution after the protoplanetary gas cloud evaporation, which signalled a crucial turning point when the planets settled into their fixed orbits. This discovery can help scientists to know about the solar system evolution.

President Donald Trump pardons former Virginia sheriff Scott Jenkins convicted of fraud and bribery
President Donald Trump pardons former Virginia sheriff Scott Jenkins convicted of fraud and bribery
US President Donald Trump has issued a pardon to a former Virginia sheriff who was convicted on fraud and bribery charges.
A jury found former Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins guilty of accepting more than $75,000 (£55,000) in bribes last December, in exchange for making several businessmen into law enforcement officers without them being trained.
Jenkins, a long-time supporter of Trump, was sentenced in March to 10 years in prison. He was set to report to jail on Tuesday, but due to Trump’s pardon, he will not spend a single day behind bars.
“Sheriff Scott Jenkins, his wife Patricia, and their family have been dragged through HELL,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social network.
Trump said Jenkins was the “victim of an overzealous Biden Department of Justice”. The judge who presided over Jenkins’s case, Robert Ballou, was appointed by former President Joe Biden, but it was a jury trial.
Trump called Jenkins a “wonderful person” who was persecuted by “Radical Left monsters” and “left for dead”.
Jenkins was found guilty of one count of conspiracy, four counts of honest services fraud and seven counts of bribery concerning programmes receiving federal funds.
Prosecutors said he accepted bribes from eight people, including two undercover FBI agents. These were in the form of cash and campaign contributions. Jenkins’s position was an elected one.
The men who bribed Jenkins paid for auxiliary deputy sheriff positions so they could avoid traffic tickets and carry concealed firearms without a permit, the prosecutors said.
Although auxiliary deputy sheriffs are volunteer positions, they can have law-enforcement powers equivalent to those of paid officers.
Trump said Jenkins tried to offer evidence in his defence, but Judge Ballou “refused to allow it, shut him down, and then went on a tirade”.
The acting US attorney for Virginia said at the time of Jenkins’s sentencing that the ex-sheriff violated his oath of office. He said the case proved that officials who used their positions for “unjust personal enrichment” would be held accountable.
But Jenkins appealed to Trump for help after his conviction.
“I believe if he heard the information, I know he would help if he knew my story,” he reportedly said in April on a webinar hosted by the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.
Jenkins was elected sheriff of Culpeper County in 2011 and took office in January 2012. He was re-elected in 2015 and 2019.
The former policeman is the latest in a long line of Trump supporters to receive a pardon.
In January, the president issued almost 1,600 pardons or commutations to people charged over the 2021 US Capitol riots.
The US Constitution says that a president has the “power to grant reprieves and pardons for offences against the United States, except in cases of impeachment”.
A pardon represents legal forgiveness, ends any further punishment and restores rights such as being able to vote or run for public office.

Huge explosion rocks a chemical plant in eastern China
A huge explosion has rocked a chemical plant in China’s eastern Shandong province, according to state broadcaster CCTV, with thick plumes of ****** smoke visible from the site.
The blast was powerful enough to knock out the windows at a storage warehouse more than 3km away from the factory, according to a video shared by a local resident, who declined to give his name out of concern for retaliation.
His home shook from the blast, he said.
As he went to the window to see what was wrong, he saw a tall column of smoke from the site, more than 7km away.
The explosion happened at the Gaomi Youdao Chemical Co, which is in an industrial park in the city of Weifang.
It manufactures pesticides as well as chemicals for medical use, and has more than 500 employees according to corporate registration records.
Rescuers have been dispatched to the scene of the incident, but authorities have yet to announce if there are any casualties.
Local fire officials sent more than 230 personnel to the scene, according to CCTV.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra Tipped to Debut With 200-Megapixel Periscope Telephoto Camera
Oppo Find X9 Ultra Tipped to Debut With 200-Megapixel Periscope Telephoto Camera
Oppo Find X9 Ultra is expected to arrive as a successor to the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, which was unveiled in China in April this year. A recent leak has hinted at the probable camera specifications of the purported smartphone. It may come with four rear cameras, including two periscope shooters. The Oppo Find X9 lineup is expected to comprise four smartphones, according to recent reports. Apart from the Ultra variant, the series may have a base, a Plus and a Pro version.
Oppo Find X9 Ultra Camera, Other Features
The purported Oppo Find X9 Ultra could sport a 200-megapixel primary camera with a large sensor, according to a Weibo post by Digital Chat Station (translated from ********) that has since been edited (via Gizmochina). The tipster claimed that the rear camera unit will include another 200-megapixel sensor paired with a periscope telephoto, which may also have macro capabilities.
The tipster added that the rear camera setup of the Oppo Find X9 Ultra will include a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a second 50-megapixel “super periscope” telephoto camera, which is tipped to support up to 10x optical zoom.
The current Oppo Find X8 Ultra model is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, and features a Hasselblad-tuned rear camera unit. The setup includes a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-900 primary sensor, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 ultrawide camera, a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700 3x telephoto camera, a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 6x periscope telephoto camera, and a 2-megapixel spectral sensor. On the front, the Find X8 Ultra carries a 32-megapixel selfie camera.
The purported Find X9 Ultra is said to be equipped with a chipset with the model number SM8850. This suggests that the rumoured Ultra model will likely be powered by Qualcomm’s yet unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. The phone may not launch this year and could arrive in select markets in early 2026.
The rest of the Oppo Find X9 series, including the Find X9, Find X9+ and Find X9 Pro, may launch in October, if the company’s previous launch schedules are any indication. The phones could be powered by MediaTek’s yet-to-be-announced Dimensity 9500 chipset.
An older leak suggested that the Oppo Find X9, Find X9 Plus and Find X9 Pro could come with 6.3-inch, 6.59-inch, and 6.78-inch 1.5K flat displays, respectively. The company may also use LIPO (low-injection pressure over-moulding) technology for these phones to minimise bezel sizes. They have been tipped to get triple rear camera units, including a periscope telephoto sensor.

NYC store goes viral for selling $4 ‘mystery boxes’ — but some packages come with unexpected privacy concerns
NYC store goes viral for selling $4 ‘mystery boxes’ — but some packages come with unexpected privacy concerns
A dollar store in the Bronx has gone viral after a TikTok video showcased its $4 “mystery packages.”
The boxes, which contain returned merchandise from retailers like Amazon, Walmart and others, can hold anything from brand-new sandals to toilet plungers. The thrill of the unknown is part of the appeal — and business is booming.
Don’t miss
“Just hope and pray, let’s see what happens,” said one shopper outside Dollar Universe.
Store manager Luis Almonte sources the boxes from liquidators in Brooklyn and New Jersey, paying around $600 for pallets of roughly 400 items. The goods are customer returns from across the country, many originally sold by Amazon or Walmart, and resold in bulk through liquidation channels.
But as the store’s popularity grows, so do the questions.
Are these sales legal?
Almonte insisted to WABC 7 Eyewitness News that he’s just trying to run a fun, affordable business. Still, he’s aware there may be legal or ethical lines he doesn’t want to cross.
“I’m going to do an investigation to see, because I don’t want to do anything ******** that hurts myself,” Almonte said.
To test the process, reporter Kemberly Richardson purchased one of the returned items and discovered the original buyer’s full name, phone number and home address were still on the box.
She called the phone number, and the stunned buyer confirmed they had returned what was supposed to be a yoga mat. They were shocked to hear their personal information was still floating around on a resold package.
Almonte said he normally uses a marker to obscure personal information and is willing to go further if needed.
“I scratch the name dark that way nobody sees,” he said, adding that if that’s not enough, he’ll remove items from the packaging altogether.
Walmart told Eyewitness News it requires all its liquidators to remove personal customer information before resale. Amazon said it’s now investigating the matter, including “the possibility that these products may have been delivered to customer addresses, were stolen and are now being resold by unauthorized third parties.”

What happens to those Amazon packages you return?
Returned Amazon packages don’t always go back on the digital shelves. Many are routed to liquidation warehouses where they’re bundled into pallets and auctioned off to resellers. These buyers — like Almonte — often have no idea what’s in each box until it’s opened.
While this resale model isn’t new, the viral popularity of $4 “mystery boxes” is raising fresh concerns about data privacy and consumer protection.
If you return items online, you might assume your personal data is wiped — but that’s not always the case. In rare instances, as this story highlights, packaging labels with full names, phone numbers and addresses can end up in the hands of strangers.
To protect yourself, make sure to:
Remove or deface shipping labels before returning items, when possible.
Avoid returns that include sensitive items or personal documents.
Monitor your accounts and credit reports for unusual activity, especially if you’ve recently made several returns.
This incident doesn’t necessarily mean you need to stop shopping online, but it’s a reminder that once you send a package back, what happens next is often out of your control.
Major retailers like Walmart and Amazon allow third-party liquidation of returns, and they typically have policies in place to protect customer privacy. But as this case shows, gaps can occur — especially when items move through multiple hands.

Fortnite Is Giving Away A Free Skin To Celebrate Return To US App Store
Fortnite Is Giving Away A Free Skin To Celebrate Return To US App Store
Fortnite has finally returned to the App Store in the US after a five-year long legal battle, and Epic is giving players a free skin to celebrate. In order to redeem the free Burnoff skin, all players have to do is log in to Fortnite on mobile, whether that’s on Android or iPhone.
The new skin is a red and ****** motorbike outfit with flame motifs called Burnoff, which looks to be a reskin of the all-white Whiteout skin. To redeem the freebie, players will have to log in on Fortnite Mobile on either Android or iOS–though once the skin is acquired it can be used in all versions of Fortnite. The skin is available from now until June 17.
Despite Epic Games’ recent win against Apple, which saw Fortnite reinstated on the App Store in the US by order of a California district court judge, the game still isn’t available on iOS outside of the USA and the EU. It’s unlikely that the legal drama between the two companies will end here, but for now fans can enjoy the spoils of Epic’s victory.
Fortnite players can also grab the Iridia Vayne skin for free for a limited time, though that new skin requires a bit more work to earn than just logging into the game.
Fortnite’s current Star Wars season has just under two weeks left to go, with a dramatic live event scheduled to finish up the saga on Saturday June 7. While nothing has been officially announced yet, there are rumors that the next Fortnite season will be superhero themed.

Ultran’s $3,000 add-in card holds 28 M.2 SSDs and delivers 109 GB/s — 400-Watt card houses up to 224TB of storage
Ultran’s $3,000 add-in card holds 28 M.2 SSDs and delivers 109 GB/s — 400-Watt card houses up to 224TB of storage
Demand for high-performance, high-capacity storage devices is growing, and to meet it, manufacturers sometimes go to rather extreme ways. Take a look at Utran Technology, which introduced a PCIe 5.0 x16 add-in card at Computex that packs 28 M.2 NVMe SSDs offering read and write throughput of 109 GB/s and storage capacity of up to 224 TB.
At the heart of the device is the Broadcom PEX89144 — a 144-lane PCIe 5.0 switch to manage connectivity and bandwidth distribution across all drives — that enables simultaneous access to all 28 SSDs through a PCIe x16 slot and two x8 cables. Such a topology enables the unit to bypass typical lane and slot limitations while maintaining physical compatibility with all systems supporting full height full length (FHFL) cards.
As far as performance concerns, the card (well, rather a system) delivers an aggregate sequential read throughput of over 109,600 MB/s (about 109.6 GB/s) and more than 418,000 IOPS, as shown in the Iometer benchmark performed by the company. In addition, the unit has an average I/O response time of just 0.48 milliseconds, highlighting exceptional latencies enabled by the PEX89144 switch.

CPU usage during the test performed by the company hovered around 30%, suggesting headroom for parallel compute tasks or additional I/O operations. This level of performance, combined with a relatively low latency, makes the device quite an appealing choice for a variety of datacenter applications that require both capacity and performance.
The card is, of course, power hungry. Ultran says it can draw about 400W, though we can only wonder from where it draws that power, considering the fact that it only has one eight-pin auxiliary PCIe power connector.
The dense layout and a compact cooling system using a radiator and a high-pressure fan enable the device to work in rack-scale storage deployments, so with eight of such cards, one can store 1.792PB of data. On the one hand, such storage density is not really high, though keeping in mind the very high performance offered by such a storage subsystem, this can make sense for such storage applications.

There are still some things to keep in mind about the card. First up, it is not hot swappable. Secondly, it does not seem that there is power loss protection on the card level, so one must use SSDs with power loss protection on the drive level. Assuming that one uses ATP SSDs that can actually monitor power levels remaining in capacitors, enabling their power loss protection, this may well be quite a reliable storage solution. Furthermore, the drive supports management functions like USB terminal control, which could enable external monitoring or firmware updates. Also, the card is cooled down using a single high-pressure fan. Such fans are widely used in the datacenter industry.

Lies Of P Expansion Has A Creepy Zoo With Mutant Animals
Lies Of P Expansion Has A Creepy Zoo With Mutant Animals
Lies of P’s first expansion, Overture releases this summer, and the new content is looking great. GameSpot’s Tamoor Hussain played a demo of the upcoming expansion, including a spooky new zoo level filled with mutant animals, and a preview of the new boss rush mode.
Tamoor compares Overture to the Bloodborne expansion Old Hunters–not so much because of the content of the expansion, but because the developers now seem confident enough with the game to get creative with it. From what he played in the demo, Tamoor says that Overture shows a level of creativity above what is present in the base game–and it’s also harder than anything in the base game.

The Overture demo featured a zoo-like level filled with “weird and freaky” versions of animals you might find in a regular zoo, including gorillas, kangaroos, wolf-like creatures, and a horrifying-looking giraffe. You can check out plenty of footage of the new level in the video, as well as some of the mutated monsters that populate it.
Tamoor also discusses Overture’s new boss rush mode–though no footage of it is available so far–which can be played in two different ways. The first allows you to pick a specific boss to fight through, with five levels of difficulty available. The first three levels are unlocked by default, while the fourth and fifth can only be played if you beat it at the previous difficulty level. Tamoor compares the boss rush mode to the one in Sekiro, where the bosses are a little different from their regular versions as you progress through the levels.
The second option for the boss rush is more like a gauntlet, where you have a limit on your health as you play through a set playlist of bosses. You can see more from the demo in the video above, including some of the unique new weapons that are coming in Lies of P: Overture.
As the first major expansion for Lies of P, Overture will be shaking things up a bit–including adding some easier difficulty modes for those who find the souls-like’s base difficulty too intimidating. The expansion content will take around 20 hours, and chronologically is intended to take place in the middle of the base game, not at the end.

The year of the trophy-drought enders: Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Tottenham, Bologna
Most recent trophy won: 2008 League Cup
Like Newcastle, Tottenham are another underachieving team who have flirted with major honours in recent years without quite being able to get over the line.
But Spurs – the club with the ninth-highest turnover in the world, external – ended their 17-year wait for a trophy when they beat Manchester United 1-0 to win the Europa League in Bilbao, with Brennan Johnson’s goal sure to go down in folklore.
It also meant Ange Postecoglou remarkably made good on his early season – and much-ridiculed – declaration that he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club.
It was only their second trophy since the turn of the Millennium and Spurs’ first in Europe since the 1984 Uefa Cup.
And it means that their worst season domestically since 1977-78 (when they were in the second tier) ends with a place in the Champions League, despite finishing the Premier League season in 17th, only one place above the relegation zone.

Top ******** memory maker expected to abandon DDR4 manufacturing at the behest of Beijing
Top ******** memory maker expected to abandon DDR4 manufacturing at the behest of Beijing
Top ******** DRAM manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) will reportedly phase out DDR4 memory for servers and PCs by the middle of next year. According to Digitimes, the company is making this sudden shift to accommodate the directives of the ******** ********** Party, especially as Beijing is pushing the country to take the global lead in AI and cloud infrastructure. In line with this, CXMT is also believed to be prioritizing work on HBM technology, targeting validation of its HBM3 chips by late this year.
This announcement caught many in the industry off guard, especially as the company had just begun mass production of DDR4 memory in late 2024. This ramp-up in capacity, paired with aggressive pricing, has caused leading memory manufacturers Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix to end production of DDR3 and DDR4 chips by late 2025.
But as the ******** government focuses on AI to compete against the U.S.’s technological supremacy, Beijing is likely directing its local tech giants to give their support. Because of this, industry analysts anticipate CXMT issuing an end-of-life notice for its DDR4 as early as the third quarter of this year. Despite that, DD4 supply has seemingly dried up, with some 8 GB chips jumping in price by 150% because of the lack of supply.
You may like
The overall market is heading towards DDR5 production to accommodate the demand for newer devices, but a few DDR4 manufacturing lines will remain. DigiTimes Asia says that CXMT will keep making it for GigaDevice to satisfy demand for consumer memory, while Samsung and SK hynix will keep on producing them using 1z-nm nodes. That means they do not require EUV tools, which are better utilized to produce newer chips.
Despite CXMT’s success in DDR4 memory, its DDR5 chips reportedly still face some issues. It’s been reported that some of its latest samples have failed some tests, with the memory chips becoming unstable when they hit 60 degrees Celsius and up, some 25 degrees lower than the up to 85 degrees Celsius that Samsung chips can operate in. There’s also doubt whether CXMT’s DDR5 memory would perform as expected in sub-zero temperatures. This likely would not be an issue with most users, though.
