  2. Marvel Rivals Just Revealed the Hero Ultron Hates the Most: “Doesn’t even have a mute button” Marvel Rivals Just Revealed the Hero Ultron Hates the Most: “Doesn’t even have a mute button” Ultron has officially landed in Marvel Rivals, and guess what? He’s still the galaxy’s grumpiest AI. Known for hating basically everyone with a pulse and a passion, he doesn’t just strategize in-game; he roasts, too. As a cold, calculating mastermind, he’s got multiple plans… and punchlines. But it’s not just his drones or lasers doing damage, his voice lines are just as sharp, savage, and surprisingly hilarious. And the hero taking the most heat? His least favorite Avenger: Spider-Man. His patience with the wall-crawler is thin. After seeing this interaction with Loki, fans are loving him even more. Ultron’s trash talk is turning him into a fan favorite With his debut in Marvel Rivals just arms’ length away (on May 30th), the recent reveal of Ultron’s savage commentary has taken on a life of its own. Players expected a powerful strategist with flashy moves, but what they didn’t see coming was how hilariously petty he’d be. His cold-blooded insults and razor-sharp sarcasm are quickly becoming his standout feature. Whether he’s tearing into Spider-Man’s non-stop chatter or throwing casual shade at other heroes, Ultron delivers every line with mechanical precision and disdain that somehow feels… relatable? And let’s be honest, if there’s one thing Marvel Rivals players seem to agree on, it’s how annoying Spider-Man mains can be. So when he singles Spidey out as his least favorite Avenger by saying “Spider doesn’t even have a mute button“, it’s not just funny, it’s instantly iconic. It’s safe to say that fans have embraced his role not just as a top-tier tactician, but as the character to pick if you want to win battles and steal the scene. The game’s community is already turning his most brutal quips into memes, catchphrases, and reasons to main him in every match. It’s a reminder that the game isn’t just about action and fast-paced battles; it’s also about character, humor, and personality. And Ultron? He’s dominating all three. Ultron proves that villains make the best entertainers His strategy? Roast first, blast later. | Image Credit: NetEase Games While heroes may get the spotlight, it’s the villains who steal the show, and Ultron is making that crystal clear in Marvel Rivals. His cold logic, savage wit, and unapologetic attitude are a perfect contrast to the game’s more upbeat, heroic voices. He doesn’t just enter the battlefield; he dominates the conversation, turning every match into both a strategic showdown and a roast session. What’s refreshing is how NetEase is not shying away and actually leaning into character-driven humor. Ultron’s lines aren’t just funny, they’re true to his lore, well-written, and rich with personality, adding to the depth of the game’s narrative charm. Players aren’t just here to fight; they’re here for the drama, the personality clashes, and the moments that go viral. In the end, if this is just one branch of Ultron’s dialogue tree, fans are in for a treat. And heroes? They might want to prepare themselves. Whether you’re god, mutant, or just overly talkative, he’s got a line locked and loaded, no mute button required. 4. This Mississippi man is out nearly $100,000 after purchasing solar panels — only to find that they don’t work This Mississippi man is out nearly $100,000 after purchasing solar panels — only to find that they don’t work Mississippi business owner Jim Dutton is feeling burned by Tren Solar, a Louisiana-based company that installed solar panels on his property, and Mosaic Solar, an affiliated company that loaned him $99,000 for the job. Now Dutton has 47 non-functional solar panels installed on top of his auto body shop, located on the same property as his home in Carriere, Mississippi. That’s because there are “multiple potential safety hazards” with the panels and wiring, according to David Blackledge of MIssissippi’s Cooperative Energy electrical company, who inspected his property. Don’t miss That hasn’t stopped Mosaic Solar from continuing to send Dutton the bills for the $99,000 loan. Now Dutton is sharing his story with Fox 8, warning others about his experience with the two companies. Solar panel company seemed legitimate Dutton first learned of Tren Solar when they called him “out of the blue.” He was interested in the potential savings of producing solar energy on his own property and powering both his home and his auto body shop, where he restores vintage cars. He did some online research that led him to believe that Tren Solar was trustworthy. “It looked like a legit business. And one of their partners, I guess they call it on the website — Panasonic — and they rated them in 2023 the best installer in the region,” Dutton recalled. Read more: This is how American car dealers use the ‘4-square method’ to make big profits off you — and how you can ensure you pay a fair price for all your vehicle costs He moved forward with the job and signed a loan with Mosaic. “They installed the panels within three days,” Dutton said. “I was like, ‘Wow, this is cool. They weren’t kidding, four to eight weeks.’ Then, it was radio silence.” After three months of Dutton’s constant calls to Tren Solar, an electrician finally showed up to wire the system to supply power to the auto body shop and home — without an approved plan from Cooperative Energy to do so. “These two jobs should not have been installed by Tren Solar, because they didn’t make it past the initial utility review stage,” the utility company’s Blackledge told Fox 8. “The installation method used has created multiple potential safety hazards.” Blackledge added that Tren Solar waited till after the panels were installed to reach out to Cooperative Energy for permission to do the installation. When Blackledge reached out to Tren Solar to follow up, he was never able to reach anyone. The disappearance of Tren Solar Fox 8 visited the Tren Solar business address, but were told Tren Solar had closed its office months before. The company’s co-founders did not return emails or calls. Fox 8 has since discovered multiple complaints about Tren Solar and Mosaic lodged with the Better Business Bureau. “All of the complaints have been (regarding) the lack of customer service communication that’s been happening,” said Michael Drummond, president of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Greater New Orleans. “We’ve reached out many times through our processes. We’ve been unable to get them to respond.” Now, Attorneys General in multiple states are suing Mosaic for deceptive trade practices. “A government action or a government warning is definitely a red flag,” Drummond said. How to protect yourself from shady businesses If you’re considering a major installation on your property, like solar panels: Research regulations to familiarize yourself with building, fire and electrical codes and other rules designed to protect you and your home. That includes making sure you are lined up for inspections throughout the process. Don’t hire the first contractor you find — especially if they reach out to you through a cold call or similar type of outreach marketing. Shop around. Do your due diligence on the principal contractor you choose and their affiliates. Check with the Better Business Bureau, study online reviews and testimonials and don’t be afraid to ask for testimonials from your neighbors. If your contractor is legitimate, they’ll be happy to provide contacts. If you have concerns about the installation, make sure you record all communications with the company, including times of calls, any emails or texts you received, and all bills or invoices. If you believe you’ve been the victim of deceptive business practices, report the business to the Better Business Bureau or your State Attorney General’s Office. You can also file an online complaint with the Federal Trade Commission or reach out to a local Consumer Protection Office. If you’re attempting to recover money you spent on such an installation, you can try to send a notice of dispute to your credit card company to stop payment to the company. You can also try to get your insurance company working on your behalf. Some insurance policies can help cover losses or damage from faulty installations. Check with your provider for more information. Finally, you can take the company to small claims court or — if you’re dealing with a significant sum — hire a lawyer. 6. OpenAI Operator is getting ******* brains to control the AI agent’s virtual hands OpenAI Operator is getting ******* brains to control the AI agent’s virtual hands OpenAI’s Operator agent will use its logic-heavy o3 model to complete tasks online The o3 model will make Operator better at filling out forms and completing purchases as well as less likely to give up when stymied The enhanced model may encourage more people to sign up for ChatGPT Pro OpenAI boasted at the beginning of the year that its Operator was a brilliant AI agent capable of handling everything for you online. If you’re paying $200 (around £165 / AU$325) for ChatGPT Pro, it could fill out forms, order products, and otherwise use its virtual mouse and keyboard on your behalf. Now, it’s given the AI agent a brain upgrade by embedding the powerful o3 model in the system, replacing the previous customized GPT-4o model running the service. OpenAI o3 Operator continues the mission of Operator to interact with the web on your behalf. It can still book a hotel room, order groceries, and even theoretically pay off that parking ticket. But GPT-4o didn’t bring the reasoning power to the service that OpenAI wanted, so the company turned to its o3 “reasoning model.” You may like The o3 model is supposed to be smarter in a more intellectual way than GPT-4o. It can be more focused and is better at step-by-step thinking. According to OpenAI, employing the o3 model makes Operator “more persistent and accurate when interacting with the browser.” The persistence will help it work through the unexpected obstacles of web browsing, like login requests, pop-ups, and CAPTCHA requests. OpenAI also said that the responses and how the model follows through on long, complex tasks will be noticeably improved. Operator in action. (Image credit: OpenAI) Operator AI For most ChatGPT users, this may not matter. Unless you’re ponying up for ChatGPT Pro, Operator is not available. Until then, running a business or managing someone else’s life might make it worthwhile. Otherwise, you might as well stick to the old-fashioned manual approach for menial web tasks. Delegating them to an AI assistant is an appealing idea, but hardly worth the cost if you’re not going to be using it heavily most days. It would be like hiring a personal chef to butter your toast. Still, the move to o3 is undeniably a big step forward for OpenAI’s vision of useful AI agents. Of course, OpenAI’s Operator isn’t unique in providing an AI agent at this point. You can find a lot of examples of varying quality, including Browser Use, Proxy 1.0, Hugging Face’s HuggingAgent, and Opera’s Browser Operator. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. OpenAI has hinted that it might change the price point for access to Operator, but for now, you have to want to pay ten times as much as ChatGPT Plus costs to get to Operator. Opening it up to Plus subscribers would be huge in terms of giving access to millions more ChatGPT users, but again, you run into the necessity versus convenience question. Filling in my own forms isn’t worth $200 but if it’s built into the rest of ChatGPT’s features, I might just start letting the AI handle it for me. 11. 3 Texas cities land on US News’ top 10 best places to live list — and they’re all suburbs 3 Texas cities land on US News’ top 10 best places to live list — and they’re all suburbs The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings for 250 Best Places to Live in the U.S. are out, and let’s just say the Live Music Capital isn’t exactly headlining the charts. While several of our Central Texas neighbors are basking in the top 30, Austin seems to have taken a leisurely stroll down to the 164th spot. Perhaps we’re just playing hard to get? The rankings, which crunch everything from housing affordability to desirability, are based on a mix of public data and user opinions. So, if you’ve been grumbling about traffic or the price of a decent single-family home, congratulations, your feedback has been heard. Central Texas suburbs outshine Austin, claiming top 30 spots in national rankings John Pittman crosses the bridge over Lake Pflugerville Dam on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Central Texas continues to experience hot weather throughout the week. Our more suburban counterparts are clearly thriving. Leander, the little engine that could, roared into the 8th position, boasting a median household income that could make a downtown condo owner weep ($131,822, for those keeping score at home). Close behind, Pflugerville clocked in at 15th, and Cedar Park at 23rd, proving that perhaps a shorter commute to H-E-B is the true secret to quality of life. Even Round Rock, with its formidable outlet mall and beloved baseball team, snagged a respectable 28th. Here are the Central Texas cities that made the top 30 spots in the list: 8. Leander – Population: 77,556. Median household income: $131,822 15. Pflugerville – Population: 66,278. Median household income: $118,047 23. Cedar Park – Population: 77,959. Median household income: $124,554 28. Round Rock – Population: 128,111. Median household income: $101,663 El Paso, Georgetown beat Austin in top 200 rankings of best places to live Even further down the list, we find New Braunfels (77th), Georgetown (113th), and then a significant drop-off for El Paso (107th). Meanwhile, Austin, with its nearly one million residents and a median household income of $96,149, seems to have been weighed down by, well, probably everything that makes Austin, Austin. Our “net migration” might be booming, but apparently, the public survey prioritized factors that our rapidly expanding metropolis is struggling to keep up with, like, you know, not being stuck in traffic for half your waking hours. Here are some Texas cities in the top 200 spots: 107. El Paso – Population: 666,841. Median household income: $57,754 113. Georgetown – Population: 80,185. Median household income: $99,965 164. Austin – Population: 997,670. Median household income: $96,149 Texas metros lag in rankings Then comes Fort Worth (212th) and San Antonio (236th). It seems the larger the city, the more the metrics penalize. 212. Fort Worth – Population: 982,203. Median household income: $77,336 236. San Antonio – Population: 1,467,811. Median household income: $64,957 So, while we continue to embrace our weirdness and cheer on our booming music scene, it seems the rest of the country (or at least the survey respondents) prefers a slightly less “Keep It Weird” approach to their living arrangements. What are the best 10 cities to live in according to U.S. News? 16. IMF raises *** growth forecast as it warns on tax and spending IMF raises *** growth forecast as it warns on tax and spending Emma Haslett Business reporter, BBC News EPA The *** economy is forecast to grow slightly more than previously expected in 2025, but the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that the Chancellor must stick to her rules on tax and spending. In its annual health-check for the economy, the IMF predicted growth of 1.2% this year, rising to 1.4% in 2026. It said an economic recovery was “under way” after a boost in the first three months of the year. The forecast from the influential body comes just over a month after it downgraded its expectations for the *** from 1.6% in 2025 to 1.1%. Luc Eyraud, the IMF’s *** mission chief, said growth has been “very strong” in the first three months of the year. Official figures released this month revealed the economy was boosted by increases in consumer spending and business investment, but the figures were during the ******* before the US imposed import tariffs and *** employer taxes increased in April. The IMF praised the government’s planning reforms and infrastructure investment plans, which it said would increase growth “if properly implemented”. But it added that a “high level of global uncertainty, volatile financial market conditions, and the challenge of containing day-to-day spending” mean the Chancellor Rachel Reeves will face “difficult choices” to balance taxation with spending in the long term. It suggested some changes to the government’s self-imposed fiscal rules, including cutting the number of times the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) produces an assessment of the ***’s finances to once a year, rather than twice. Fiscal rules are self-imposed by most governments in wealthy nations and are designed to maintain credibility with financial markets. The government has repeatedly said its rules are “non-negotiable”. The chancellor has two main rules which she has argued will bring stability to the *** economy: day-to-day government costs will be paid for by tax income, rather than borrowingto get debt falling as a share of national income by the end of this parliament in 2029/30. Global trade tensions Growth next year will be weighed down by global trade tensions, including less activity among the ***’s trading partners, the impact of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and “persistent uncertainty”, the IMF’s report said. The combination of these factors will reduce next year’s growth to the tune of 0.3% by 2026, it said. But the IMF pointed to trade agreements the *** has struck with countries like EU, India and the US, saying they demonstrated the government’s commitment to “establishing a more predictable environment for *** exporters”. The report comes just over a month after the IMF cut its expectations for *** growth this year to 1.1%, which it said was due to an increase in borrowing costs, US tariffs and a hit from inflation. It added at the time that it expected *** inflation to slow to 2.2% by 2026, close to the Bank of England’s 2% target. Earlier this month the Office for National Statistics said inflation rose unexpectedly in April to 3.5%, from 2.6% in March. On Tuesday, the IMF said this rise in inflation will last until the second half of this year, returning to target “later in 2026”. 18. Springtime Road Trip in Evrytania Springtime Road Trip in Evrytania Evrytania is Greece’s smallest regional unit in terms of area, the most sparsely populated, and the most mountainous. Within its borders lie some of the most remote villages in the country, either nestled between the slopes of the Agrafa mountains to the north or further south at the foothills of Mount Velouchi. While the road network is limited, one particularly scenic route begins east of Karpenisi and stretches 68 kilometers to Lake Trichonida. This narrow, winding provincial road winds through lush landscapes, charming settlements and striking landmarks, making it well worth the journey. The museum is housed in the old village school, where, in May 1944, the National Council of Free Greece was formed by the “Mountain Government” during the Nazi occupation. A few kilometers further down, just outside the village of Klafsi and right next to the provincial road, you’ll come across Newton Park (7th km Karpenisi-Proussos, Tel. Before entering the village, you’ll see the impressive Proussos Monastery, built into the cliffs. Dating back to the 9th century AD, the monastery played a key role during the Greek War of Independence in 1821 – hero Georgios Karaiskakis even sought refuge in its cells for a time. Although it suffered severe damage at the hands of the Germans in 1944, the monastery has since been gradually restored. 19. Michigan police say Ford worker made millions stealing parts from plant to sell on eBay in years-long scheme Michigan police say Ford worker made millions stealing parts from plant to sell on eBay in years-long scheme Millions of dollars of brand-new Ford hoods, bumpers and taillights recently disappeared straight off the assembly line into an online market before Dearborn police cracked the case. According to Fox 2 Detroit, a former Ford Motor employee slipped the parts out of three plants in Wayne, Dearborn and Flat Rock over more than two years, then funneled the loot to a Detroit‑area auto shop that resold it on eBay. Don’t miss “When we executed a search warrant … from the floor to the ceiling, it was stacked with brand‑new auto parts,” Police Chief Issa Shahin told Fox 2. The suspect and several associates are now in custody, facing potential charges of grand theft auto, racketeering and running a criminal enterprise. Details on the scam are still pending According to Shahin, the ex‑employee removed factory‑fresh components during shifts and drove them to a third‑party shop on West Chicago Street, where they were then sold online. Detectives believe the parts were listed online within days, generating a big payday for all parties involved — until police stepped in and shut the entire enterprise down, reports Fox 2. Any item confirmed as stolen violates eBay’s Stolen Property Policy, which states the company “will work with law enforcement in any attempts to sell stolen property on eBay” and permanently remove offending listings. Since the federal INFORM Consumers Act took effect in 2023, high‑volume online sellers must verify their identities and provide contact information, which gives police an additional paper trail if goods are suspected to have been stolen. The warehouse‑style storefront and two locations related to the theft ring have been closed while officers sort and catalog thousands of items. Shahin said the department is “working with all of our partners to see if we can shut them down permanently.” Ford’s global investigations unit is also assisting officials. Many of the details of this investigation are still under wraps while police continue to investigate, but Fox 2 reports all suspects are currently in custody. Read more: This is how American car dealers use the ‘4-square method’ to make big profits off you — and how you can ensure you pay a fair price for all your vehicle costs How could this impact consumers? Buying discounted car parts online can be tempting, but stolen inventory creates headaches for drivers and body shops alike. If Ford invalidates the component’s warranty — or law enforcement seizes the part during an investigation — owners may be stuck with a repair bill and no restitution. Plus, you can be charged with receiving stolen property, depending on which state you live in. So, how do you avoid stolen goods? Check the price against the MSRP. A new bumper listed at half the dealership cost is a red flag unless the seller can document overstock or liquidation. Look for original packaging and intact barcode labels. Missing boxes or scratched‑off serial numbers can signal hot goods. Vet the seller. Reputable merchants post business addresses, clear return policies and years of positive feedback. Beware of brand‑new accounts or profiles that hide contact info. Ask for paperwork. Legitimate dismantlers and surplus dealers should provide a receipt showing where the part came from, such as an auction lot, insurance salvage or OEM close‑out. Use protected payment methods. Paying with a credit card — rather than debit or cash — may make it easier to claw back funds if law enforcement later flags the item as stolen. If you spot a suspicious listing, you can report a concern on eBay and forward the URL and any screenshots to the local police. While you likely won’t be able to trace the validity of smaller parts, larger parts like doors or engines may still have the car’s original VIN number on them. If so, you can verify whether the vehicle was reported stolen using the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s free VINCheck Service. Stolen parts rings thrive on speed and anonymity, moving inventory before factories even notice it’s missing. A few minutes of due diligence — plus a healthy dose of skepticism about “too‑good‑to‑be‑true” prices — can steer you clear of the financial and legal headache of buying stolen parts. 20. Immersive content to stretch wireless networks to breaking point Immersive content to stretch wireless networks to breaking point Networks have faced continual increased strain over the past few years as artificial intelligence (AI) and online video become almost ubiquitous for consumer and enterprise use case alike, and research from InterDigital is now warning that the exponential growth in immersive content consumption over such infrastructures is set to put a major strain on current wireless infrastructures. Indeed, a report from the mobile and video technology research and development company, titled Media over wireless: Networks for ubiquitous video, reveals that while immersive content will stretch wireless networks to breaking point, this will pave the way for video and 6G innovation. The study explored the escalating demands and trends around consumer behaviour for video and immersive experiences over wireless networks. The main vector of network strain was identified as coming from immersive and extended reality (XR) content, which was seen as placing new demands on wireless networks that, in their current form, will be unable to handle the next generation of immersive applications. The upshot is that current network architecture must evolve to cope with the increased demand. Looking at trends revealed by the study, the analyst firm found that video content accounts for 69% of all data traffic over the internet, and that on smartphones alone, 74% of data consumption is video, driven by social media clips, embedded video and streaming platforms. In addition, just over a quarter of consumers watch subscription video-on-demand services such as Netflix and Prime Video on their smartphone. This compares with 41% on TVs. The survey found that the XR market is growing rapidly and that by 2031, it is expected that the number of XR devices shipped will increase by four times over 2025 levels to reach 83 million units globally. InterDigital described the general demand for entertainment over wireless networks as “voracious” and stressed that without significant upgrades to the network, the market risks facing stalled adoption of immersive devices, especially given that 40% of consumers today report dissatisfaction with network performance, where video demands are not as intensive as XR. As XR devices become more accessible, we’ll move from simply watching video to stepping inside it, and future wireless systems need to be prepared for this staggering change Milind Kulkarni, InterDigital “The high demand for more immersive entertainment cannot be ignored. As XR devices become more accessible, we’ll move from simply watching video to stepping inside it, and future wireless systems need to be prepared for this staggering change,” noted Milind Kulkarni, head of wireless labs at InterDigital. “XR is a stress test for wireless networks, where the throughput and latency demands make it the defining use case for 6G and next-gen video codecs.” To head off any forthcoming issues, the researchers advised that 5G-Advanced and forthcoming 6G architectures will be essential to unlocking the full potential of immersive and XR content. InterDigital parent company Futuresource predicts that 6G deployment will coincide with the projected maturity of XR hardware and software ecosystems, which is expected to take place between 2028 and 2032. Indeed, it forecasts that the XR market will hit 130 million 6G-enabled devices by 2037, up from close to zero today, and that by 2030, XR is likely to become the second major category after smartphones to integrate 6G capabilities. It also believes that new experiences will reach the market, with immersive experiences on the go, such as city tours, live events and public transport entertainment. “The XR market is entering a pivotal phase, where immersive content is no longer a niche. As we get closer to 2030 and the release of the first 6G standards, XR entertainment is going to become an expectation, where we will see interactive digital sports venues, real-time augmented city guides and digital twins,” added Lionel Oisel, head of video labs at InterDigital. “But the success of these experiences will hinge entirely on the quality of experience, whereby ultra-low latency, responsive interactivity and consistent media synchronisation are all essential to unlocking XR’s full potential.” Source link #Immersive #content #stretch #wireless #networks #breaking #point Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  21. Fed Chair Jerome Powell says biggest career mistake is avoiding risks Fed Chair Jerome Powell says biggest career mistake is avoiding risks U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell speaks during a press conference following a two-day meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee on interest rate policy in Washington, D.C., U.S., May 7, 2025. Kevin Lamarque | Reuters Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell shared one of the biggest career mistakes with Princeton graduates and said taking risks and initiatives is the key to getting ahead. In a commencement address to Princeton’s Class of 2025 on Sunday, Powell described one of the key traits he said was behind him ultimately becoming a member of the Federal Reserve Board. “As you strive in coming years to reach your full potential you’ll need to take risks, and yes to make mistakes. Everyone, and I mean everyone, makes mistakes — take it from an expert — but the ******* mistake is to avoid taking risks. If you’re not failing from time to time you’re not asking enough of yourself,” Powell said. Powell became a member of the Fed’s board of governors in 2012. He was appointed chairman in 2018 by U.S. President Donald Trump, and reappointed in 2022 by former President Joe Biden. He explained that nobody is ever ready to take on more senior positions and leadership roles. “Go for it. Throw yourself into the deep end of the pool, believe in yourself, take risks,” Powell said. “When you fall down — and you will fall down — get up and repeat the cycle.” ‘Initiative is the rocket fuel of life’ The central bank leader emphasized that much of his success can be pinned down to small moments when he decided to take the initiative. “A little bit of initiative at the right time can make all the difference. The initiative is the rocket fuel of life,” Powell said. “Now, I’m no entrepreneur, I didn’t start a major tech company. But as I look back, many of the most important developments in my life trace back to a few occasions where I showed just a little bit of initiative.” Powell shared an anecdote of when he worked at a firm led by former U.S. Senator Nicholas F. Brady, and was keen to introduce himself. He decided to take the initiative and climb the stairs to Brady’s office and ask for a quick meeting. It was “very brief,” but the encounter paid off. Two months later, Brady asked Powell to work with him on a project. A year later, Brady became Treasury Secretary and requested that Powell serve as assistant secretary of the Treasury. “That enormously challenging role whet my appetite for further public service and ultimately proved to be a gateway for my appointment to the Federal Reserve Board. So if I hadn’t forced myself to walk up those stairs and take what I saw as a risky and potentially awkward step I wouldn’t be standing here today,” Powell said. “I can think of long-term friendships and one marriage — my own — that turn on a moment’s initiative. On occasions like that we risk failure, awkwardness, embarrassment and rejection but that’s how we create the career opportunities, the great friendships, and the love that make life worth living. So the combination of luck, the courage to make mistakes, and a little initiative can lead to much success.” Source link #Fed #Chair #Jerome #Powell #biggest #career #mistake #avoiding #risks Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

And now the studio has announced that June 19th will see this fantasy RPG receive its largest update yet with the aptly-named Summer Vibes. What’s included? Well, to start, you’ll be able to use the new Elemental Contract to make friends and ally with the titular dragons. Growth Challenges will give you the chance to level up and take on limited-time missions with high rewards, and a new cross-server Raid in the form of the Space-Time Battlefield poses a cosmic challenge with rare loot and auction rights on the line. But wait, there’s more! There’s the introduction of the new Cryo dragon, the Bounty Team system that lets you put a price on your enemy’s heads, Recharge Rewards, Camp Activity, Daily Sign-in events and a Summer ***** too! 24. Pornhub and three other porn sites face EU child safety probe Pornhub and three other porn sites face EU child safety probe The EU is investigating Pornhub, Stripchat and two other ************ websites it believes may be falling foul of its online content laws. The European Commission said the sites, which also include XVideos and XNXX, did not appear to have measures in place to safeguard children and their rights. It said this included an apparent lack of “appropriate” age verification methods to stop children accessing adult material. “Online platforms must ensure that the rights and best interests of children are central to the design and functioning of their services,” it said. The Commission said its initial investigations found the four platforms had not put in place “appropriate and proportionate measures to ensure a high level of privacy, safety and security for minors”. It said the platforms also do not appear to be abiding by requirements for porn sites to use age verification tools to protect children from accessing adult content. A Commission official said that “click away” pop-ups currently used by some porn sites, asking users if they are over 18, may not be an effective means of doing so. The platforms were also found not to have put into place “risk assessment and mitigation measures of any negative effects on the rights of the child, the mental and physical well-being of users,” it said. It comes amid wider scrutiny of online ************ services worldwide, with many regulators looking to crack down on those that do not have age verification in place. The ***’s online safety regulator Ofcom recently announced two investigations into porn sites that did not appear to have any methods to check the age of users. It said in early May that Itai Tech Ltd – which operates a so-called “nudifying” site – and Score Internet Group LLC had failed to detail how they were preventing children from accessing their platforms. Pornhub has blocked access to its site in 16 US states, including Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas, that passed laws requiring it to verify the age of users. In a January blog post, it said age verification should take place on users’ devices, such as through their operating system, rather than on individual, age-restricted sites. It said this would be a simpler process for regulators and enhance privacy for users. The companies subject to the EU’s investigation were designated as very large online platforms under its Digital Services Act (DSA) in 2023. Under the bloc’s sweeping set of digital content rules, they face tougher requirements to tackle harmful and ******** material on the platforms. If suspected infringements of the DSA are confirmed, platforms could face further enforcement actions or, ultimately, a fines of up to 6% of their annual turnover. The Commission said on Tuesday that Stripchat would no longer be designated a so-called VLOP, but its suspected non-compliance with its digital content rules would still be investigated. Smaller platforms that do not meet the 45m EU user threshold must also abide by the bloc’s digital rules to safeguard children, it said. Coordinated action by its member states will also seek to enforce requirements for smaller ************ sites. “Our priority is to protect minors and allow them to navigate safely online,” said Henna Virkkunen, the Commission’s executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, security and democracy. “Together with the Digital Service Coordinators in the Member States we are determined to tackle any potential harm to young online users.” Source link #Pornhub #porn #sites #face #child #safety #probe Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  25. *********-made test could help diagnose sepsis, researchers say – National *********-made test could help diagnose sepsis, researchers say – National A team of ********* researchers has created a test they say could quickly predict if a patient is going to develop sepsis, a life-threatening condition that happens when the immune system has a dysfunctional reaction to an infection and starts attacking the body’s own organs and tissues. Sepsis kills thousands of people in Canada and close to 50 million people worldwide every year, said Dr. Claudia dos Santos, senior author of a research paper about the test published Tuesday in the journal Nature Communications. Treating sepsis quickly is crucial to survival, said dos Santos, who is a clinician-scientist and critical care physician at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. “A one-hour delay in the treatment of sepsis can increase mortality by close to eight per cent,” she said, noting that acting within the first six hours is very important. Story continues below advertisement The problem is that there is currently no single test that can tell doctors which patients with infections — which can be anything from COVID-19 to a bacterial infection from a cut — will go on to develop sepsis, she said. That’s because symptoms of sepsis are “non-specific” and could also be symptoms of illness from the infection itself, including a fever, a high respiratory or heart rate, low blood pressure, low ****** output, an abnormal white blood cell count and confusion. 2:11 Raising awareness of the world’s #1 killer So physicians use their best clinical judgment, but it’s based on a “suspicion” of sepsis rather than a clear biological marker, dos Santos said. Get weekly health news Receive the latest medical news and health information delivered to you every Sunday. “We do everything that we possibly can in the first six golden hours of sepsis and we cross our fingers and watch and see what happens. And the motivation behind this paper is there has to be a better way.” Story continues below advertisement Dos Santos and colleagues from the University of British Columbia and National Research Council Canada believe they’ve found it — a blood test that could predict a patient’s likelihood of developing sepsis. Robert Hancock, director of UBC’s centre for microbial diseases and immunity research, led a team that used artificial intelligence to find genes that stood out in patients who went on to develop sepsis — and found six that they called “Sepset.” “The idea is that in sepsis, each of these six genes is more highly expressed than it is when the patients aren’t in sepsis,” said Hancock. More on Health More videos “Really critically, we see this phenomenon occurring before there is an obvious diagnosis of sepsis.” The researchers examined blood samples from 586 past patients and found higher levels of those six genes when patients’ immune systems were starting to react abnormally. They found that when there was an increased presence of those genes, the patients went into sepsis within 24 hours. Testing patients to see if they have that six-gene “signature” could allow physicians to take immediate action to treat sepsis early, including starting antibiotics if a bacterial infection is suspected, increasing fluids to help keep blood pressure stable and preparing to move the patient to intensive care if they need respiratory support or other critical care measures, dos Santos said. Trending Now Passenger restrained after trying to open plane exit door mid-flight Macron’s wife shoves him on plane in moment caught on video Story continues below advertisement Those actions can all happen while doctors pinpoint the initial infection and treat it with antibiotics, steroids, or other medications. 1:41 IWK health centre introducing new screening tool for sepsis in children The researchers also wanted to make the sepsis test portable, so it could be brought to a patient’s bedside in the emergency department or used in remote communities to decide whether a patient needs to be transported to an urban hospital. National Research Council Canada developed a small device that takes less than 50 microlitres of blood — one or two drops — and extracts RNA to detect how much of the six signature genes are present. The device — called Powerblade — produced the results in less than three hours. When tested using 30 of the blood samples from previous patients, it was 92 per cent accurate in predicting who had developed sepsis, the researchers say. Story continues below advertisement An important limitation of the study is that the test has not yet been used with patients in real time, the paper says. Dos Santos said that’s the next step, in the form of a clinical trial funded by the ********* Institutes of Health Research. She’s hoping they’ll be able to start it this year. “We’re actually going to test the device, the prototype, in the real-world environment and demonstrate that we can do the whole thing for real,” she said. “And then we need to find out, once we have those results, how does that change (patient) outcomes?” &copy 2025 The ********* Press Source link #Canadianmade #test #diagnose #sepsis #researchers #National Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
