A benchmark spotted on the web by tipster @yabhishekhd (via GSMArena), matching the model number of Project Moohan, has revealed details that point towards the very capable Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 being the processor inside. We already knew the device would run a chipset made by Qualcomm, but now we have a big clue about the specific model. The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 was announced early in 2024, and has previously been linked to the Google and Samsung headset. 5. Trump says Putin is ‘playing with fire’ as Russia gains Trump says Putin is ‘playing with fire’ as Russia gains US President Donald Trump says Vladimir Putin is “playing with fire” by refusing to engage in ceasefire talks with Kyiv as Russian forces made gains in Ukraine’s northeast. With his frustration increasing, Trump has lashed out at the Russian president on Tuesday as Moscow hit Ukraine with some of the three-year-old war’s deadliest drone and missile attacks while not moving forward on ceasefire efforts. “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realise is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened in Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday. The president, who prides himself on having friendly relations with Putin, did not elaborate. Top Russian security official Dmitry Medvedev dismissed Trump’s criticism. “Regarding Trump’s words about Putin ‘playing with fire’ and ‘really bad things’ happening to Russia. I only know of one REALLY BAD thing — WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!” Medvedev wrote in English on the social media platform X. Trump in a post on Sunday said Putin had “gone absolutely CRAZY” by unleashing a massive aerial attack on Ukraine. Putin said after a two-hour call with Trump last week that Russia was ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum about a future peace accord. The Russian leader said part of this work would be defining a possible ceasefire, including its timeframe. Ukraine, its European allies and the US have all urged Putin to accept an immediate, unconditional ceasefire lasting at least 30 days. The Kremlin has said it could not estimate how long drafting the memorandum would take, and it said on Tuesday it was still working on it. Kyiv and European governments have accused Moscow of stalling while it advances on the battlefield. Trump’s social media blast on Tuesday came as Kyiv suffered another battlefield setback with Russian forces capturing four villages in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region. Trump has so far held off on major new sanctions against Russia, though US officials say a package of sanctions has been prepared should he decide to do so. Trump is also under pressure from Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to increase military assistance to Ukraine. The Russian advances follow some of the biggest drone and missile attacks on Ukraine since Russia began the full-scale war in early 2022, although the level dropped markedly overnight from Monday to Tuesday. Ukraine has also fired dozens of long-range drones into Russia in recent days, forcing some Moscow airports to close temporarily. Sumy Governor Oleh Hryhorov wrote on Facebook that the villages of Novenke, Basivka, Veselivka and Zhuravka had been occupied by Russia, although residents had long been evacuated. Ukrainian officials have said for weeks that Russian troops are trying to make inroads into Sumy region, the main city of which lies less than 30 km from the border. Russian forces, attacking in small groups on motorcycles and supported by drones, have been widening the area where they have been carrying out assaults, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s border guard service said. Ukrainian forces used Sumy region as a launch pad to seize a chunk of Russia’s neighbouring Kursk region last year before being largely driven out by April. The area has been pounded for months by Russian guided bomb attacks and other strikes. Zelenskiy has repeatedly warned that Russia is preparing new offensives against Sumy as well as the northeastern Kharkiv and southeastern Zaporizhzhia regions. “There is much evidence that they are preparing new offensive operations. Russia is counting on further war,” he said on Monday, without elaborating. Source link #Trump #Putin #playing #fire #Russia #gains Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  6. What is Manhattanhenge and when can you see it? What is Manhattanhenge and when can you see it? NEW YORK (AP) — Twice a year, New Yorkers and visitors are treated to a phenomenon known as Manhattanhenge, when the setting sun aligns with the Manhattan street grid and sinks below the horizon framed in a canyon of skyscrapers. The event is a favorite of photographers and often brings people out onto sidewalks on spring and summer evenings to watch this unique sunset. The first Manhattanhenge of the year takes place Wednesday at 8:13 p.m., with a slight variation happening again Thursday at 8:12 p.m. It will occur again on July 11 and 12. Some background on the phenomenon: Where does the name Manhattanhenge come from? Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson coined the term in a 1997 article in the magazine Natural History. Tyson, the director of the Hayden Planetarium at New York’s American Museum of Natural History, said he was inspired by a visit to Stonehenge as a teenager. The future host of TV shows such as PBS’ “Nova ScienceNow” was part of an expedition led by Gerald Hawkins, the scientist who first theorized that Stonehenge’s mysterious megaliths were an ancient astronomical observatory. It struck Tyson, a native New Yorker, that the setting sun framed by Manhattan’s high-rises could be compared to the sun’s rays striking the center of the Stonehenge circle on the solstice. Unlike the Neolithic Stonehenge builders, the planners who laid out Manhattan did not mean to channel the sun. It just worked out that way. When is Manhattanhenge? Manhattanhenge does not take place on the summer solstice itself, which is June 20 this year. Instead, it happens about three weeks before and after the solstice. That’s when the sun aligns itself perfectly with the Manhattan grid’s east-west streets. Viewers get two different versions of the phenomenon to choose from. On May 28 and July 12, half the sun will be above the horizon and half below it at the moment of alignment with Manhattan’s streets, according to the Hayden Planetarium. On May 29 and July 11, the whole sun will appear to hover between buildings just before sinking into the New Jersey horizon across the Hudson River. Where can you see Manhattanhenge? The traditional viewing spots are along the city’s broad east-west thoroughfares: 14th Street, 23rd Street, 34th Street, 42nd Street and 57th Street. The farther east you go, the more dramatic the vista as the sun’s rays hit building facades on either side. It is also possible to see Manhattanhenge across the East River in the Long Island City section of Queens. Is Manhattanhenge an organized event? Manhattanhenge viewing parties are not unknown, but it is mostly a DIY affair. People gather on east-west streets a half-hour or so before sunset and snap photo after photo as dusk approaches. That’s if the weather is fine. There’s no visible Manhattanhenge on rainy or cloudy days, and both are unfortunately in the forecast this week. Do other cities have ‘henges’? Similar effects occur in other cities with uniform street grids. Chicagohenge and Baltimorehenge happen when the setting sun lines up with the grid systems in those cities in March and September, around the spring and fall equinoxes. Torontohenge occurs in February and October. But Manhattanhenge is particularly striking because of the height of the buildings and the unobstructed path to the Hudson. U.S. warns Americans not to travel to Venezuela due to risks of torture, kidnapping U.S. warns Americans not to travel to Venezuela due to risks of torture, kidnapping The crisis in Venezuela The crisis in Venezuela 07:11 The U.S. State Department is warning citizens not to travel to Venezuela, warning of “severe risks” including wrongful detention, kidnapping and torture. The State Department said that it does not have an operating embassy or consulate in the South American country, and cannot provide routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens there. All U.S. citizens currently in Venezuela should leave immediately, the State Department said. “U.S. citizens are at extreme risk of detention when entering Venezuela at any location. They may be unjustly charged with terrorism or other serious crimes and detained for long periods,” the State Department said in a news release announcing the warning. “U.S. citizens have been detained upon arrival at land borders, airports, and maritime ports of entry. There is no safe way for Americans to travel to Venezuela.” More U.S. nationals are currently wrongfully detained in Venezuela than in any other country, the department said. In some cases, detentions have happened when people accidentally cross into Venezuela from neighboring countries, where borders may not be clearly marked. Detained Americans may also be unjustly charged with serious crimes, including terrorism, the State Department said. The Venezuelan government does not report detentions to the U.S. government, making it impossible for the U.S. to visit those citizens or intervene. U.S. citizens detained in Venezuela also cannot contact family members or private attorneys, the State Department said. Other potential concerns in Venezuela include the arbitrary enforcement of local laws, civil unrest and poor health infrastructure, the State Department said. 10. Mark Gordon assaulted police officers on maternity ward, court hears Mark Gordon assaulted police officers on maternity ward, court hears Mark Gordon assaulted two female police officers on a maternity ward after the birth of his first child and had to be detained using leg restraints, a court has heard. Gordon, 50, and Constance Marten, 38, deny the manslaughter by gross negligence of daughter Victoria, their fifth child, whose body was found in a shopping bag in a Brighton shed in early 2023. They also deny causing or allowing the death of a child. The Old Bailey heard on Tuesday that Gordon left Det Sgt Delma Jones “cut and bruised” in the hours after Marten had first given birth, in 2017. Gordon later pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court to assaulting Det Sgt Jones and PC Sian Beynon. Giving evidence, Det Sgt Jones said they had been called to the postnatal ward of West Wales General Hospital after medical staff raised concerns about the identity of a newborn’s parents. Jones said she and PC Beynon went to a separate room with the father and asked him several times for his name and date of birth. He eventually agreed to write it in her notebook and said he was called James Amer, giving his date of birth as 31 April 1987, the jury was told. “I asked him to confirm his date of birth and he replied yeah. At this time I realised there are only 30 days in April.” Det Sgt Jones said. She described how Gordon started to rock “backwards and forwards in a chair”, muttering under his breath that he was “confused”. When Det Sgt Jones said she wanted to do some checks on him, Gordon shouted, jumped up from his seat and started pacing backwards and forwards. “He was clenching his fists and his behaviour completely changed,” she said. He then tried to leave the room, but his path was blocked by PC Beynon, the court heard. Det Sgt Jones said Gordon put his hands on her colleague, pushing her to one side. The jury heard the officers tried to restrain him, but he got out of the room and begin running towards where Marten was with their new baby. Det Sgt Jones said she went to get her radio to alert other nearby officers, before Gordon ran back towards them. They took hold of him, but Det Sgt Jones said she fell to the floor during the incident. “We were telling him to calm down, to comply,” she said. “Obviously we had concerns over where we were – there were babies and other people around. We were concerned what he was capable of.” PC Beynon deployed her Pava incapacitant spray “at least twice”, Det Sgt Jones said. With help from a father of another newborn, the two police officers were able to successfully restrain Gordon, before their colleagues arrived to arrest him. Gordon began kicking out at another officer, and leg restraints were then put on him, the court heard. Det Sgt Jones, who has 20 years’ experience of policing, said the incident – which lasted about 10 minutes – left her bruised and with cuts on her hands, adding that she remembers it “very well”. Gordon, who no longer has barristers in the trial and is representing himself, asked her: “Is it true that all police officers tell the truth all the time?” Judge Mark Lucraft KC intervened, saying the question was not appropriate. The court has heard how a high profile manhunt was launched for Gordon and Marten in January 2023 after they fled their burning car near Bolton, Greater Manchester, and went off grid with Victoria. The trial continues. Source link #Mark #Gordon #assaulted #police #officers #maternity #ward #court #hears Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Trump admin pausing U.S. student visa appointments for new vetting process – National Trump admin pausing U.S. student visa appointments for new vetting process – National U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered its missions abroad to stop scheduling new appointments for student and exchange visitor visa applicants as the State Department prepares to expand social media vetting of foreign students, according to an internal cable seen by Reuters on Tuesday. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in the cable that the department plans to issue updated guidance on social media vetting of student and exchange visitor applicants after a review is completed and advised consular sections to halt the scheduling of such visa appointments. The move comes as the Trump administration has sought to ramp up deportations and revoke student visas as part of its wide-ranging efforts to fulfill his hardline immigration agenda. In the cable, first reported by Politico, Rubio said appointments that have already been scheduled can proceed under the current guidelines, but available appointments not already taken should be pulled down. Story continues below advertisement “The Department is conducting a review of existing operations and processes for screening and vetting of student and exchange visitor (F, M, J) visa applicants, and based on that review, plans to issue guidance on expanded social media vetting for all such applicants,” the cable said. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce declined to comment on reports of the cable, but said the U.S. will use “every tool” to vet anyone who wants to enter the United States. “We will continue to use every tool we can to assess who it is that’s coming here, whether they are students or otherwise,” Bruce told reporters at a regular news briefing. 1:57 Harvard challenges foreign student ban amid escalating clash with Trump The expanded social media vetting will require consular sections to modify their operations, processes and allocation of resources, according to the cable, which advises the sections going forward to take into consideration the workload and resource requirements of each case before scheduling them. Trump administration officials have said student visa and green card holders are subject to deportation over their support for Palestinians and criticism of Israel’s conduct in the war in Gaza, calling their actions a threat to U.S. foreign policy and accusing them of being pro-******. Trump’s critics have called the effort an attack on free speech rights under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. A Tufts University student from Turkey was held for over six weeks in an immigration detention center in Louisiana after co-writing an opinion piece criticizing her school’s response to Israel’s war in Gaza. She was released from custody after a federal judge granted her bail. Last week, the Trump administration moved to revoke Harvard’s ability to enroll international students. Those roughly 6,800 students make up about 27% of Harvard’s total enrollment. A federal judge has temporarily blocked the plan as a lawsuit against the administration moves through the courts. 12. Trump administration halting student visa appointments ahead of “expanded social media vetting” Trump administration halting student visa appointments ahead of “expanded social media vetting” The White House has ordered U.S. embassies to temporarily stop scheduling new student visa appointments, as the Trump administration works to expand social media screenings for applicants, the latest in a series of restrictions on international students. In a cable dated Tuesday and obtained by CBS News, Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed diplomatic posts not to add any more appointments for student and foreign exchange visas in preparation for the expanded vetting, and to take any unfilled appointments off their calendars. If students have already scheduled their visa interviews, those can still go forward. The pause will last “until further guidance is issued” in the next few days. The State Department is preparing for an “expansion of required social media screening and vetting,” and all student visa applicants could be subject to social media checks, according to the cable. This extra screening would have “significant implications” for embassies and consulates’ operations, making a pause on new appointments necessary, the cable said. The memo was first reported by Politico. CBS News has reached out to the State Department and the White House for comment on the new policy. International students who want to study in the U.S. are typically required to schedule interviews at an American embassy or consulate, usually in their home country, as part of the visa application process. Wait times vary widely: At most embassies, appointments for student visa interviews can be scheduled less than two months in advance, though some diplomatic posts have longer waits. Last month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it would screen some visa applicants, including people seeking student visas, for what it called “antisemitic activity on social media and the physical harassment of Jewish individuals.” The screenings are part of a wider slate of controls aimed at international students — some of which have run into pushback from the court system. Last week, DHS told Harvard University it can no longer enroll international students, escalating a monthslong battle between the administration and the Ivy League school. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the administration is “holding Harvard accountable for fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the ******** ********** Party on its campus,” but Harvard said the move was ********. A judge quickly blocked the policy. The government has sought to deport a handful of students based on their pro-************ activism — some of whom have green cards, including Columbia University’s Mohsen Mahdawi and Mahmoud Khalil — citing a law that allows visas to be revoked if somebody poses “adverse foreign policy consequences.” Lawyers argue these visa revocations violate students’ First Amendment rights, though the government says it has the right to do so. Some students, including Mahdawi, have been released on bail. And lawyers say the Trump administration has tried to end legal status for thousands of other international students, many of whom appeared to be targeted over minor legal infractions. A federal judge has blocked that effort. 13. King expresses love for ‘strong and free’ Canada King expresses love for ‘strong and free’ Canada King Charles, speaking during a brief symbolic visit to show support for Canada at a time it has faced annexation threats from US President Donald Trump, on Tuesday expressed his love for the country, which he described as “strong and free.” Charles, Canada’s head of state, is the first British monarch in almost 70 years to preside over the opening of the ********* parliament. In a speech in the Senate, Charles referred to “the country that Canadians and I love so much” but did not mention Trump, who has imposed tariffs on ********* exports and muses about turning Canada into the 51st US state. “The True North is indeed strong and free,” Charles said, referring to Canada’s national anthem. The speech outlining the government’s plans was largely written by officials working for Prime Minister Mark Carney. But Charles was responsible for the comments about Canada. “Every time I come to Canada … a little more of Canada seeps into my bloodstream – and from there straight to my heart,” said the monarch, accompanied by his wife Queen Camilla. “Canada has continued to set an example to the world in her conduct and values, as a force for good.” The 76-year-old king, who is undergoing ******* treatment, later left Canada after a visit that barely lasted 24 hours. Charles, who joked and laughed with Carney before the speech, wore the Order of Canada around his neck. Canada is one of 15 countries where he is monarch. He and Camilla were driven to the Senate in a horse-drawn carriage, escorted by 28 riders from the Royal ********* Mounted Police and cheered on by flag-waving onlookers. An Ipsos Reid poll released on Tuesday for Global News found that 66 per cent of respondents believed Canada’s relationship with the monarchy was useful because it helped set the nation apart from the United States, up from 54 per cent in April 2023. “With the tariffs and … the trade war, if the British monarchy plays a more active role in ********* politics and standing up for Canada, then I welcome the British monarchy,” Toronto realtor Abdel Rafeeq said on Tuesday. In the speech, the government reiterated its belief that Canada needs to agree a new relationship with the US and look for more reliable trading partners. Carney, asked later whether the King had reinforced Canada’s sovereignty, replied “Our sovereignty is strong”. The welcome for the royal couple contrasted with a visit to Australia last October, when an Indigenous senator heckled Charles in Parliament House, accusing him of “genocide”. Australia has long debated the need to keep a distant monarch. A 1999 referendum on becoming a republic lost with 55 per cent of voters opposed. The monarchy is not a major factor in ********* daily life, even though coins and bank notes feature the monarch’s head and the country is defended by the Royal ********* Air Force and the Royal ********* Navy. A poll from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute released on Tuesday showed 83 per cent of Canadians say they were indifferent or did not care about the visit. 14. AI chip ***** sparks BT substrate materials shortage — TSMC’s huge demand causes supply disruptions for NAND flash controllers, SSDs AI chip ***** sparks BT substrate materials shortage — TSMC’s huge demand causes supply disruptions for NAND flash controllers, SSDs TSMC’s demand for CoWoS chipmaking materials has become so great that it is causing material shortages in the memory market. Mitsubishi Gas Chemical has announced to clients that shipments of raw materials for the production of BT substrate will be heavily delayed due to low supply. As the largest supplier of BT substrate raw materials in the world, MGC’s delays will trigger potential long-term shortages in the substrate supply chain, exacerbating existing issues and cost hikes in the memory production segment, particularly NAND flash controllers. Suppliers with existing NAND controller stock, such as Phison, are expected to win big in the ensuing months. TSMC’s CoWoS advanced packaging has been identified by the chipmaking industry as the source of this materials shortage. The chip-on-wafer-on-substrate packaging technology has become a major hit for TSMC among high-end clients like Nvidia and AMD for use in leading-edge enterprise GPUs like Blackwell. And TSMC has been steadily expanding its CoWoS production capacity ever since introducing the CoWoS package. You may like CoWoS relies on ABF substrates, which typically share production materials with BT substrates. TSMC’s lion status in the industry puts a squeeze on supply, with BT substrate suppliers receiving the short end of the stick. And with TSMC considering production of 1000W processors built on massive 120×150 mm CoWoS substrates, the squeeze is only expected to continue. MGC attributed delays to shortages of low-CTE glass cloth, copper-clad laminates (CCL) and prepreg (PPG) materials. Glass cloth is also used in packaging and motherboard printing of enterprise servers and consumer smartphones, with BT substrate suppliers taking up the near-bottom of the priority list. To avoid a shock to the market and end supply, companies at all points in the BT substrate supply chain have begun coordinating orders and supply of material. A low demand for consumer electronics and market hesitance attributed to the uncertain barrage of tariff announcements and removals by the U.S. government are helping to keep consumer demand for material low, also avoiding true shortages. Companies like Phison and Silicon Motion, premier suppliers of NAND flash controllers and eMMC cards made with BT substrate, stand to gain the most from this ******* of uncertainty. Stunning Byzantine Mosaic Unearthed in Israel’s Negev Desert Now Shines for the Public Stunning Byzantine Mosaic Unearthed in Israel’s Negev Desert Now Shines for the Public The 1,600-year-old Byzantine mosaic in Negev, Israel. Credit: Emil Aladjem / Israel Antiquities Authority A 1,600-year-old mosaic hailed as one of Israel’s most remarkable archaeological finds is now on public display in the Western Negev, offering a vivid window into life during the Byzantine *******. Originally discovered in 1990 near Kibbutz Urim close to the Gaza Strip, the Be’er Shema mosaic, also known as Birsama, was unearthed during excavations led by the Israel Antiquities Authority. After decades of conservation work, it is now permanently housed at the Merhavim Regional Council headquarters. The mosaic was officially unveiled to the public on May 25 during a ceremony attended by Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, Israel Antiquities Authority Director Eli Eskosido, and Merhavim Regional Council Head Shay Hajaj. Local students and residents joined the celebration, which featured archaeological activities, art booths, and tree planting. Scenes of ancient life and artistry The mosaic, dating to between 324 and 638 CE, once adorned a large monastery complex. It features 55 circular medallions filled with rich imagery, including mythological figures, hunting scenes, exotic animals, baskets of fruit, and daily life activities. A mosaic detail showing a musician playing a flute. Credit: Yuli Schwartz / Israel Antiquities Authority Archaeologist Shaike Lender, who led the original excavation, said the piece reflects the work of a “true artist.” Thousands of tiny stones, along with bits of colored glass and pottery, made up the detailed images. A self-sustaining desert monastery Other structures found at the site include a large winepress and several clay storage jars, suggesting the monastery operated as a self-sufficient community engaged in wine production. Restoration brings the mosaic back to life Shortly after its discovery, the mosaic was covered to protect it from exposure and farming activities. Despite those efforts, the artwork began to deteriorate. That prompted emergency restoration efforts by the Antiquities Authority and Israel’s Ministry of Heritage. 17. InWin preps 1650W GPU power supply with four 16-pin power connectors InWin preps 1650W GPU power supply with four 16-pin power connectors A standard power supply serves all the components in your system. However, due to the increasing power demands of contemporary graphics cards, InWin (via Uniko’s Hardware) is creating a dedicated “GPU power supply” specifically for powering your graphics cards. The IW-1650W offers a 1,650W capacity solely for graphics cards. InWin employs a single-rail design in this power supply. Currently, the IW-1650W does not hold any 80 Plus, ETA, or Lambda certifications. However, the manufacturer asserts that the power supply achieves up to 90% efficiency and features an active PFC of 0.99. The unit utilizes a single 13.5cm cooling fan for active heat dissipation. The IW-1650W complies with the PCIe 5.1 CEM standard and has four 12V-2×6 power connectors, enabling support for a maximum of four graphics cards. The power supply’s modular design lets you remove unnecessary power cables. You may like While the power supply supports up to four graphics cards, your mileage will vary depending on your graphics card’s power requirements. At 1,650W, we’re looking at 412.5W for each graphics card. That’s sufficient for up to four GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards. Dual power supply configurations are uncommon outside of server or cryptocurrency mining environments. The IW-1650W concept resembles the latter, where mining rigs employ two power supplies to enhance power capacity for multiple graphics cards. While Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossFire are not as common, multi-GPU setups exist in professional and workstation domains. The IW-1650W is a secondary power supply and does not operate independently. You need to pair it with a main unit to use it, which means selecting a case that accommodates dual power supplies. Fortunately, this won’t be an issue as there are plenty of options available, including cases spacious enough to fit up to three power supplies. While InWin recently unveiled the IW-1650W at Computex 2025, the company has yet to announce its availability or, more importantly, the pricing. This year’s Computex has revealed that 3000W power supplies are on the horizon for consumers, which could limit the IW-1650W’s practical use unless combined with a 2000W unit. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. Using it alongside a lower-capacity supply would be illogical since the same outcome could be achieved with one of the new 3000W options. Alternatively, you could opt to install the IW-1650W alongside another 3000W unit, but realistically, who in their right mind needs 4650W of power? 19. Crowds storm US-backed group’s new aid distribution centre Crowds storm US-backed group’s new aid distribution centre Thousands of Gazan’s stampede towards a food distribution centre Crowds of Palestinians have overrun a distribution site in Gaza set up by a controversial US and Israeli-backed group, a day after it began working there. Videos showed people walking over torn-down fences and earth berms at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s (GHF) compound in the southern city of Rafah. The group said that at one point its team fell back because the numbers seeking aid was so great. The Israeli military said troops nearby fired warning shots. The GHF, which uses armed American security contractors, aims to bypass the UN as the main supplier of aid in Gaza, where experts have warned of a looming famine after an 11-week Israeli blockade that was recently eased. The UN said the videos from Rafah were “heartbreaking” and that it had a detailed plan ready to get enough aid to the 2.1 million population. The UN and many aid groups have refused to co-operate with GHF’s plans, which they say contradict humanitarian principles and appear to “weaponise aid”. They have warned that the system will practically exclude those with mobility issues, force further displacement, expose thousands of people to harm, make aid conditional on political and military aims, and set an unacceptable precedent for aid delivery around the world. Israel has said an alternative to the current aid system is needed to stop ****** stealing aid, which the group denies doing. The GHF announced on Monday that it had “commenced operations in Gaza” and begun giving out supplies to Palestinians at its distribution sites. On Tuesday afternoon, the Israeli military confirmed two sites located in the Tal al-Sultan neighbourhood of Rafah and the Morag Corridor – an east-west military zone that separates the city from the rest of Gaza – had begun distributing food to families. At around the same time, Israeli and ************ media shared pictures showing long queues of Palestinians at the Tal al-Sultan site. But just over an hour later, they began posting videos showing thousands of men, women and children streaming into the compound. In one clip, some people are seen running and ducking as what appear to be gunshots ring out. Witnesses described a scene of chaos as people seized food parcels and other aid from the site. They also said Israeli troops stationed nearby had opened fire. “The situation was extremely difficult. They only allowed 50 people to cross at a time,” one man told BBC Arabic’s Middle East daily radio programme. “In the end, chaos broke out – people climbed over the gates, attacked others, and took all the [aid].” “It was a humiliating experience,” he added. “We’ve suffered greatly from hunger. We’re just looking for a bit of sugar to make a cup of tea, and a piece of bread to eat.” A woman said hunger and poverty had “overwhelmed everyone”. “People are exhausted – willing to do anything, even risk their lives – just to find food and feed their children.” A statement from the GHF acknowledged that “the needs on the ground are great” and said it had so far handed out about 8,000 food boxes – each meant to feed five-and-a-half people for three-and-a-half days – through a partnership with local non-governmental organisations. However, it said Palestinians had experienced several hours of delays in accessing one site “due to blockades imposed by ******”. “At one moment in the late afternoon, the volume of people at the SBS [Secure Distribution Site] was such that the GHF team fell back to allow a small number of Gazans to take aid safely and dissipate. This was done in accordance with GHF protocol to avoid casualties. Normal operations have resumed,” it added. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops had fired “warning shots in the area outside the compound”. “Control over the situation was established, food distribution operations are expected to continue as planned, and the safety of IDF troops was not compromised,” it stated. Gaza’s ******-run Government Media Office said Israel’s efforts to distribute aid had “failed miserably”. At a news conference in New York, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said: “We have been watching the video coming out of Gaza around one of the distribution points set up by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. And frankly, these videos, these images, are heartbreaking.” “We and our partners have a detailed, principled, operationally sound plan supported by member states to get aid to a desperate population. We continue to stress that a meaningful scale-up of humanitarian operations is essential to stave off famine and meet the needs of all civilians wherever they are,” he added. The US state department’s spokeswoman called the UN’s criticism “the height of hypocrisy”. “It is unfortunate, because the issue here is giving aid to Gaza, and then suddenly it moves into complaints about style or the nature of who’s doing it,” Tammy Bruce told reporters. Reuters The GHF says it plans to feed a million people in Gaza by the end of this week The GHF initially plans to set up four distribution sites in southern and central Gaza where Palestinians will be able to collect food and other aid for their families. It says it aims to feed a million people – just under half the population – by the end of this week. The sites are meant to be secured by American contractors, with Israeli troops patrolling the perimeters. To access them, Palestinians are expected to have to undergo identity checks and screening for involvement with ******. UN and other aid agencies have insisted they will not co-operate with any scheme that fails to respect fundamental humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality. On Sunday night, Jake Wood resigned as the GHF’s executive director, saying the group’s system could not work in a way that would be able to fulfil those principles. The GHF’s board rejected the criticism and accused “those who benefit from the status quo” of being more focused on “tearing this apart than on getting aid in”. The group also alleged on Monday that ****** had made death threats to NGOs supporting its distribution sites and attempted to block civilians from accessing the aid. ****** has publicly warned Palestinians not to co-operate with GHF’s system. Israel imposed a total blockade on humanitarian aid and commercial supplies to Gaza on 2 March and resumed its military offensive two weeks later, ending a two-month ceasefire with ******. It said the steps were meant to put pressure on the armed group to release the 58 hostages still held in Gaza, up to 23 of whom are believed to be alive. On 19 May, the Israeli military launched an expanded offensive that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said would see troops “take control of all areas” of Gaza. The plan reportedly includes completely clearing the north of civilians and forcibly displacing them to the south. Netanyahu also said Israel would temporarily ease the blockade and allow a “basic” amount of food into Gaza to prevent a famine, following pressure from allies in the US. Since then, Israeli authorities say they have allowed at least 665 lorry loads of humanitarian aid, including flour, baby food and medical supplies, into Gaza. However, the head of the UN’s World Food Programme warned on Sunday that the aid was only a “drop in the bucket” of what was needed in the territory to reverse the catastrophic levels of hunger, amid significant shortages of basic foods and skyrocketing prices. Half a million people face starvation in the coming months, according to an assessment by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response ******’ cross-border attack on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage. At least 54,056 people have been killed in Gaza since then, including 3,901 over the past 10 weeks, according to the territory’s ******-run health ministry. 20. Nasdaq 100: Elliott Wave Accuracy Since April Strengthens the Bull Thesis Nasdaq 100: Elliott Wave Accuracy Since April Strengthens the Bull Thesis For those new to our work and analyses, using the Elliott Wave (EW) Principle and our BIMBO concept, “any Bear market/correction is a Major Buying Opportunity,” we have been Bullish on the stock market and the (NDX) since early April, when we concluded, “we focus on the index wrapping up these smaller 4th and 5th waves, which will be followed by a rally of at least 15-25%.” Fast forward, and the index has increased by over 25% since then. Moreover, in our last update about the NDX, we showed that the index would preferably top out for an (orange) W-3 at around $21400, then drop to $20800+/-100 for a potential (orange) W-4, and rally to $22000+/-200 for a W-5 of a grey W-iii/c. See Figure 1 below. It reached $21483 last week, dipped to $20778, and is currently trading at $21378, all right on target. Thus, objectively analyzing the stock market’s price charts using the EW has kept us on the right track; it is an essential tool for accurately assessing the stock market. Figure 1. NDX daily chart with detailed Elliott Wave count and technical indicators The index should now be in the orange W-5, and although we still cannot know at this stage if we will get five waves up (1-5) or only three (a-b-c) on the two remaining degrees (grey, green), we prefer the five-wave sequence due to several external factors like recent breadth thrusts we have discussed. However, we must continue to label the current advance as 1/a, 2/b, 3/c, 4?, 5? until one or the other has been proven. Thus, we can proceed with our preferred bullish EW count. We still expect the orange W-5 to complete at $22000+/-200, followed by a grey W-iv down to $21000+/200, and a grey W-v to ideally $22400-900, provided the index’s price holds at least above $20778 (grey warning level) and especially above $20613 (orange warning level). 22. Salesforce pays $8bn for Informatica to underpin agentic AI play Salesforce pays $8bn for Informatica to underpin agentic AI play Salesforce has today (27 May) singed a definitive agreement to acquire cloud data management outfit Informatica for approximately $8bn (£5.9bn) in equity – net of its current investment in the firm – in a move the software behemoth reckons will enhance the “trusted data foundation” upon which its agentic artificial intelligence (AI) strategy rests. Salesforce said the combination of Informatica’s data catalogue, integration, governance, quality and privacy, metadata management and master data management (MDM) services with its own platform would establish a unified agentic AI architecture, with the goal of enabling AI agents to run at-scale, responsibly, and safely. “Together, Salesforce and Informatica will create the most complete, agent-ready data platform in the industry,” said Marc Benioff, chair and CEO of Salesforce. “By uniting the power of Data Cloud, MuleSoft, and Tableau with Informatica’s industry-leading, advanced data management capabilities, we will enable autonomous agents to deliver smarter, safer, and more scalable outcomes for every company, and significantly strengthen our position in the $150bn plus enterprise data market.” Amit Walia, CEO of Informatica – which recently waded into the agentic AI fray itself – added: “Joining forces with Salesforce represents a significant leap forward in our journey to bring data and AI to life by empowering businesses with the transformative power of their most critical asset – their data. We have a shared vision for how we can help organisations harness the full value of their data in the AI era.” Deeper dive Looking deeper into the tech underlying the deal, Salesforce said that ultimately, bringing together Informatica’s cloud-native data management capabilities would unlock new capabilities for its own enterprise data stack and deliver a “complete solution” to the challenges of scaling AI. Salesforce leadership laid out a five point plan for how this will be accomplished: Through strengthening Data Cloud’s leadership in the customer data platform (CDP) space, delivering actionable, clear, trusted and unified data across customer organisations; Through elevating Agentforce – launched last year – by building a foundation on which autonomous AI agents can go about their business, interpreting and acting on complex datasets; Through augmenting Salesforce’s Customer 360 CRM to give users confidence that they can deliver better for customers, backed by trusted data; Through governed understanding for MuleSoft – ensuring data flowing through its APIs is connected, enriched, standardised and trustworthy; And through context-rich insights for Tableau users. Salesforce said that forging a connection at this level would demand deep, native integration of Informatica’s technology within its own platform. “Our acquisition strategy is methodical, patient, and decisive – targeting transformative assets like Informatica when the calculus aligns to maximise customer success,” said Robin Washington, president and chief operating and financial officer at, Salesforce. “This proposed acquisition will be a key enabler for Salesforce’s next phase of AI-driven growth – and we will move quickly to integrate their capabilities and unlock synergies on a fast timeline, particularly in areas like public sector, life sciences, healthcare, and financial services. We’re laser-focused on accelerated execution to increase our market differentiation and deliver sustained benefits for all Salesforce stakeholders.” Subject to regulatory approval and other conditions, Salesforce expects the deal to close early in the first quarter of its fiscal 2027 – approximately 12 months from now. Hard road ahead SnapLogic CEO Gaurav Dhillon, who co-founded Informatica back in the early 1990s, said he had mixed feelings about the deal. “On the one hand, I understand why it might be happening and it makes sense in theory. It is a crystal clear ‘I-told-you-so’ moment for me and why I founded SnapLogic, because most enterprises are going to need one platform, for application and data integration. But on the other hand, it will likely create massive turmoil for Informatica (and Mulesoft) customers,” he said. “That turmoil is inevitable when two legacy integration platforms like Mulesoft and Informatica have to be squeezed down to one; to truly get a grip on important business data about customers, suppliers and markets. A slow, painful process that will take years if all goes according to plan. This challenge is compounded because you can’t go backwards in time to pre-cloud and pre-GenAI technology.” Source link #Salesforce #pays #8bn #Informatica #underpin #agentic #play Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

A few managed to secure aid boxes — containing basic items like sugar, flour, pasta and tehini — but the vast majority left empty-handed. In a statement, GHF said that because of the large number of Palestinians seeking aid, staff at the hub followed the group’s safety protocols and “fell back” to allow them to dissipate, then later resumed operations. The U.N. and other humanitarian groups have refused to participate in GHF’s system, saying it violates humanitarian principles.
