Starship fumbled its 3rd flight in a row. It’s another setback for Elon Musk.
Starship fumbled its 3rd flight in a row. It’s another setback for Elon Musk.
SpaceX’s Starship spun out of control in space again on Tuesday, after its two last flights exploded.
Starship could revolutionize the space industry and carry out Elon Musk’s vision of a city on Mars.
The mega-rocket has blown up on every flight this year and it hasn’t yet put a payload in orbit.
Elon Musk‘s most ambitious project spun out of control before his eyes once again.
SpaceX’s Starship mega-rocket launched from its Texas facility on Tuesday evening to make an ill-fated third attempt at a huge milestone: releasing its first payload into orbit.
That’s the key to Starship bringing in the big bucks to fund Musk’s visions of building a city on Mars. To garner paying customers, Starship has to show it can deliver.
The first step is releasing a batch of eight mock Starlink satellites into orbit. SpaceX tried to do this twice already — in January and March — only to see Starship explode before it could even try opening its payload doors.
Tuesday’s flight didn’t fare much better.
2 failures in one Starship flight
The rocket thundered through the skies to reach space in one piece, but when it came time to release its practice satellites, the payload door would not open. It’s not yet clear what caused that first mishap.
The hosts on the SpaceX livestream emphasized that the more important test was the vehicle’s reentry into Earth’s atmosphere, because SpaceX had removed 100 of the spaceship’s protective heat-shield tiles to test its limits.
“These launches are all about data. The most important thing is data on how to improve the tile design,” Musk had told space reporter Eric Berger before settling in to watch the flight from SpaceX’s control room in Starbase, Texas.
A few minutes later, though, that test went out the window too when Starship starting spinning as it cruised above Earth.
“We did spring a leak in some of the fuel tank systems inside Starship,” Dan Huot, a SpaceX communications manager, said on the SpaceX livestream.
He added that, with no control over the spaceship’s orientation, it was unlikely SpaceX would be able to test the heat shield. Rather, it would fall uncontrolled into the Indian Ocean, probably breaking apart on the way down.
Indeed, SpaceX later confirmed the ship had experienced a “rapid unscheduled disassembly,” which is the company’s way of saying “exploded.”
This is Starship’s third consecutive problem flight. After being on a promising upward trajectory for nearly two years, SpaceX’s vanguard rocket program has backslid.
Starship could supercharge the space industry
As a super-heavy-lift vehicle, Starship’s appeal to the space industry is its massive power. It can haul giant payloads into space, but that’s not worth much if it can’t release them into orbit.
The Starship-Super Heavy launch system — consisting of the lower-stage Super Heavy booster and upper-stage Starship rocket — promises to be the largest, most powerful, and first-ever fully reusable orbital rocket on Earth.
A screengrab from a SpaceX livestream shows Starship sitting atop its Super Heavy booster on the launchpad.SpaceX via X
If it succeeds, some experts and Musk have said it could help cut the cost of spaceflight by an order of magnitude.
Musk’s interplanetary visions and SpaceX’s long-term business plan aren’t the only futures on the line. The heft and savings that Starship promises could revolutionize spaceflight and accelerate the space industry at large.
Want to build giant hotels in Earth’s orbit? Want to mine the moon or asteroids for rare minerals? Want to set up a radio telescope on the far side of the moon? You’ll need to haul a lot of stuff into space. The up-front costs will be high, so you’ll need to do it for cheap. Enter Starship.
“In order to have a sustained economy around the moon, I think we need a heavy lift launch vehicle,” Steve Altemus, the CEO of Intuitive Machines, which has landed two robotic missions on the moon, previously told Business Insider.
Starship has failed 3 times in 2025
Starship is still in its testing and development stage, but it has made major strides toward commercial flight.
The rocket has flown to space multiple times. Starship has returned in one piece and landed in the ocean with its engines firing — a crucial demonstration before it can try landing on the ground. Its Super Heavy booster even landed smoothly on its launch tower three times.

Starship’s luck changed in January, though, when the rocket was first set to attempt a mock satellite deployment.
As it soared toward space, the upper-stage Starship exploded and rained down huge chunks of debris in the Caribbean, causing the Federal Aviation Administration to divert aircraft in the area and triggering an investigation.

SpaceX determined that the propulsion system’s hardware had suffered more stress than expected during the flight, causing fuel leaks and fire in the ship’s “attic area.”
The company made upgrades to better vent the attic area, got reapproval from the FAA, and flew again in March — only to watch Starship explode again.
On that flight, the vehicle reached space and quickly spun out of control, eventually tumbling back toward Earth and blowing up.
In that instance, too, the FAA briefly grounded flights across Florida’s east coast to avoid raining rocket debris.
According to SpaceX, the ensuing investigation found that a “hardware failure” in one of the ship’s Raptor engines had probably allowed its highly reactive propellants to mix and ignite, disabling all the engines. To fix that problem, the company says it improved the engines’ plumbing and key joints.
SpaceX said on X that the March flight was “a reminder of the value of putting hardware into a real-world environment as frequently as possible.”
It could be weeks or months before SpaceX shares a verdict on what caused Tuesday’s mishap. Starship probably won’t launch again until then.

Eleven bodies found on boat in eastern Caribbean
Eleven bodies found on boat in eastern Caribbean
Police have found a boat beached on the Grenadine island of Canouan carrying the remains of what they believed to be 11 people who may be from Mali.
“Several passports were recovered at the scene which appear to be from the Republic of Mali,” Superintendent Junior Simmons said in a video message.
“The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, and some were not fully intact.”
Local police received a report about the 13-metre vessel that washed ashore in Little Bay on Canouan, to the south of the archipelago Caribbean nation.
Simmons said the remains had been transported to mainland St Vincent pending further forensic and investigative procedures.
In nearby St Kitts and Nevis, authorities in January said they had discovered a vessel where they found the bodies of 19 people who they estimated had been at sea for a long ******* due to the advanced stage of decomposition.
They also found identifications suggesting some of those passengers also came from Mali, a landlocked West African nation some 6200km east across the Atlantic Ocean.
The Atlantic Ocean off the West African coast is among the world’s most dangerous maritime routes, with strong westerly currents and winds capable of driving vessels far off course.

Yen drifts ahead of Japan bond auction, dollar steady
Yen drifts ahead of Japan bond auction, dollar steady
By Ankur Banerjee
SINGAPORE (Reuters) -The Japanese yen wobbled in volatile trading on Wednesday as ructions in the bond market kept the spotlight on the fiscal health of major economies while the U.S. dollar steadied after a strong end to the previous session due to upbeat economic data.
The yen was last little changed at 144.345 per dollar in early trading after dropping 1% on Tuesday in the wake of reports that Japan will consider trimming issuance of super-long bonds after a sharp rise in yields in recent weeks.
The focus will remain on the Japanese bond market, with an auction of Japan’s longest-tenor bonds due on Wednesday a litmus test for appetite for that type of debt as investors weigh worsening finances of major government issuers.
The longest-dated Japanese government bond yields soared to all-time highs last week after a poor 20-year debt auction. On Wednesday, the yield on Japanese government bonds was slightly higher after a sharp dive in the previous session.
Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo, said the auction in Japan was unlikely to draw strong demand amid the recent surge in long-end yields.
“Even if the results are solid, a sustained decline in yields looks unlikely given BOJ policy uncertainty and fiscal concerns ahead of the July elections,” she said.
“For the yen, risks remain two-way – policy uncertainty keeps upside pressure intact amid haven flows, but a softening in U.S. tariff rhetoric could limit gains,” Chanana added.
The yen has gained nearly 9% so far in 2025 due to dollar weakness and safe-haven flows as investors flee U.S. assets in the wake of the erratic trade policies under President Donald Trump that have roiled markets.
FISCAL OUTLOOK
Fiscal worries are front of mind for investors after Moody’s downgrade of the U.S. credit rating on a rising debt burden this month and soft demand for a U.S. Treasury Department bond auction last week that lifted 30-year Treasury yields above 5%.
U.S. Treasury yields were slightly elevated on Wednesday after they dipped in the previous session.
The euro was flat at $1.1325 after dropping 0.5% in the previous session as a bout of dollar buying hit the markets amid signs of possible trade deals and data showing U.S. consumer confidence in May was much better than expected.
The U.S. dollar was also boosted by Trump’s decision to delay higher tariffs on the European Union over the weekend.
Still, new orders for key U.S.-manufactured capital goods plunged by the most in six months in April as the flip-flopping tariff salvos take a toll on the economy and businesses.
Story Continues
Sterling last bought $1.3516 but stayed close to the three-year high touched on Monday, while worries about Britain’s stretched finances have also weighed on investor appetite for the country’s debt.
The dollar index, which measures the U.S. currency against six rivals, was last at 99.574.
The *********** dollar was muted at $0.6443, a week after the country’s central bank lowered interest rates by 50 basis points. The New Zealand dollar was last slightly weaker at $0.5941, ahead of a central bank decision on Wednesday where economists polled by Reuters expect a 25 basis point interest rate cut.

Olympic snub puts fire in the belly of Matildas’ Grant
Olympic snub puts fire in the belly of Matildas’ Grant
Driven by the heartbreak of missing Olympics selection and her most challenging year in football yet, Matildas defender Charli Grant is ready to make up for lost time.
The dashing full-back had been a mainstay of previous Matildas squads but was left out of Australia’s 18-player squad for the Paris Games.
Though she travelled as a reserve player, Grant did not take the field.
“It was heartbreaking to not be put in that squad,” Grant told AAP.
“But in saying that I still feel very grateful to have been part of that whole squad together; to be travelling with the team and to be part of that experience.
“But it was really hard to be so close but so far away from that team, especially after feeling like I had cemented a spot maybe the year prior.”
Missing Olympics selection compounded minimal game time at club level with Tottenham.
“It’s been a really difficult year. I would probably say it’s probably been my hardest year of football yet,” Grant said.
“It’s been an amazing opportunity to play in the WSL. I’ve loved having that opportunity.
“But along with that, it (the year) has had its challenges, both in the national team and at club.
“But it’s really helped me build myself as a player and as a person.”
Grant, 23, is stuck behind two of Australia’s greatest full-backs: left-back Steph Catley and right-back Ellie Carpenter, but has consistently deputised with aplomb.
Carpenter is missing upcoming games against Argentina for personal reasons, while Catley, who is also spending more time at centre-back, is likely to have limited involvement in Friday’s clash at Marvel Stadium.
Dashing defender Grant is ready to step up, especially with Joe Montemurro expected to be announced as Australia’s next coach after the international window.
“It’s definitely a good opportunity for us to cement a spot in our position and show that we want to be part of that team with the new coach,” she said.
Nine months out from the Asian Cup, Grant has plenty of fire in the belly.
“When you do miss out on things, it just gives you that fire and that drive to prove them wrong, and to show that you are capable, and that you do deserve that opportunity,” she said.
“In a way, you’ve just got to turn it into a positive and just use it as energy to make yourself better.
“All the tournaments I’ve been a part of, I’ve fallen short in the goals I’ve set for myself in the game time that I wanted.
“This Asian Cup I’ll definitely be working towards trying to just be part of the squad. But to break into that starting line-up – that is a goal of mine.”
Having seen Tottenham’s men’s coach Ange Postecoglou lift the Europa League and Matildas trio Catley, Caitlin Foord and Kyra Cooney-Cross win the Women’s Champions League, Grant has silverware on the mind.
“It definitely does motivate you to win something,” she said.
“You want to be part of something big, and you want to achieve something like that.”

Suspect arrested in Grapevine Lake jet ski hit-and-run death: Texas game wardens
Suspect arrested in Grapevine Lake jet ski hit-and-run death: Texas game wardens
Texas game wardens have arrested the woman who allegedly struck and killed an 18-year-old kayaker on Sunday at Grapevine Lake, authorities said on Tuesday.
Game wardens identified the suspect as 21-year-old Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, according to a news release.
Gonzalez was operating the jet ski that hit and killed 18-year-old Ava Renee Moore, a U.S. Air Force Academy student, as she kayaked on Grapevine Lake, authorities said.
Ava Moore, 18, graduated from Timber Creek High School in Keller ISD in 2024 and then committed to play basketball as a student at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School. She was scheduled to begin basic training at the Air Force Academy in a few weeks. Moore was killed Sunday, May 25, when a woman driving a jet ski hit her on Grapevine Lake and then fled the scene, according to police.
Gonzalez faces charges of second-degree manslaughter, reckless operation and excessive speed of a personal watercraft, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. It’s unclear whether she has a defense attorney.
While driving the jet ski, which game wardens referred to as a personal watercraft, the suspect “recklessly made several passes along the shoreline with wanton disregard to the safety of others and at a speed and manner that endangered others in the area, before eventually colliding with one of two kayakers paddling near the shoreline,” the affidavit states.
After hitting Moore, Gonzalez left the scene, officials said. Another woman who was a passenger on the jet ski stayed behind to be interviewed by first responders, but Gonzalez fled with a man in a car that also hit two other vehicles as they drove away, police said.
Gonzalez was arrested with help from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department, the Grapevine Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, according to the game wardens’ statement.
Attorney General Ken Paxton said the man who left the scene with Gonzalez also was arrested with the help of his office’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Texas Parks and Wildlife identified the man as Maikel Coello Perozo, 21.
Witnesses and first responders tried to save Moore, who had head injuries, but she died after being taken to the emergency room at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, authorities said.
Ava Moore had returned to North Texas to spend time with her family before beginning basic training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as part of its Class of 2029. Moore was killed Sunday, May 25, when her kayak was hit by a jet ski on Grapevine Lake, authorities said.
Moore was a 2024 graduate of Timber Creek High School in Keller ISD and then committed to play basketball as a student at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, according to her social media. After completing the preparatory school program earlier this month, she had returned to North Texas to spend time with her family for a few weeks before beginning basic training at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as part of its Class of 2029.
“We lost an exemplary teammate this weekend – Cadet Candidate Ava Moore, whose passion for leadership and service left an impact on everyone she met,” Lt. Gen Tony Bauernfeind, the superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy, said in a statement on Tuesday. “Ava’s constant happiness and attitude helped her squadron get through the challenges of the Prep School, and her drive to excel was on display as she sought out leadership positions to improve herself and her team. Our team is focused on providing support to Ava’s family, her Prep School Squadron, the Prep School Women’s Basketball team, and the entire Academy family.”
Support services including chaplains and mental health professionals are available for her classmates, the academy said.
Moore’s father said in a statement to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV, “We are grieving the loss of our daughter at this time. Our prayers are also with the young ladies involved, along with their families.”

In his statement, the attorney general said that Gonzalez is from Venezuela and that she and the man who was arrested are both undocumented immigrants.
“Ava Moore’s senseless death was caused by an ******** alien who should have never been in our country in the first place,” said Paxton, who is challenging incumbent John Cornyn to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate in the 2026 election. “My heart breaks for Ava’s family and friends, and my prayers are with them as they face this tragedy. My office will continue to work with local, state, and national law enforcement partners to secure justice for Ava.”

Loose pigeons cause havoc on plane before take-off
A Delta flight travelling from Minneapolis to Madison, Wisconsin was delayed after two pigeons ended up onboard the aircraft, baffling both passengers and crew.
Video shows one of birds flying through the cabin as a passenger attempts to catch it with a jacket. According to local media, baggage handlers were called on board and safely removed one of the birds.
However, as the plane began to taxi down the runway, a second bird emerged, causing the pilot to contact air traffic control to return to the gate once more.
The flight arrived in Madison one hour later than scheduled. Delta later apologised to customers for the delay.

Reserve Bank of New Zealand cuts rates to 3.25 per cent
Reserve Bank of New Zealand cuts rates to 3.25 per cent
New Zealand’s economic downward spiral continues to be recognised by its central bank, which has cut rates for a sixth straight meeting.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) reduced the official cash rate (OCR) by 25 basis points to 3.25 per cent on Wednesday.
It has also issued an updated future track, downgrading a forecast to have the OCR sitting at 2.9 per cent by year’s end.
With headline inflation back in the target band, at 2.5 per cent, Governor Christian Hawkesby said conditions were right for another cut.
“Core inflation is declining and there is spare productive capacity in the economy,” he said.
Spare capacity might be an understatement.
New Zealand is enduring a tough run of low growth, or as was the case last year, a deep six-month recession when the economy shrunk by more than two per cent.
Responding to the environment, as well as shrunken inflation, the RBNZ has cut the OCR 225 basis points in nine months.
Leading bankers want it to go further, and quickly, to improve business conditions.
Kiwibank chief economist Jarrod Kerr said domestic weakness and overseas uncertainty put the case for a ******* rate cut now, before landing at 2.5 per cent soon.
“The economy needs stimulus, not restraint,” Mr Kerr told Newstalk ZB.
“These tariffs, no matter how much they get dialled back … it’s still a tariff across the world, it’s still a negative. It still puts deflationary pressure on the economy.
“We’re saying get it into stimulatory territory and lets kickstart the economy into next year.”
Arguing for the prudent pathway of the 25 basis point cut, Mr Hawkesby said it was not clear how global heavyweights would respond to the US-led trade war.
“For example, it is possible that China could respond to weaker economic activity with a sizeable fiscal stimulus,” he said.
The updated forecasts also predict shallow GDP growth of just 1.8 per cent this year, but in better news, an unemployment rate peaking at just 5.2 per cent.
ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner agreed there was a need for assistance from monetary policy.
“It’s been a bit stop-start. So, we thought maybe the country just needs a bit more of a push in the small of the back to make sure that we keep moving forward,” she said.
A number of Kiwi banks moved their rates ahead of the well-telegraphed cut, with BNZ shaving 25 basis points off its floating rates, and offering 4.89 per cent for an 18-month fixed term.
ANZ bettered that fixed rate, with 4.85 per cent on offer over the same time frame.
With a clearly signposted change, the Co-operative Bank moved a fortnight ago, dropping its floating rate by 25 basis points.

SpaceX launches another Starship rocket after back-to-back explosions, but it tumbles out of control
SpaceX launches another Starship rocket after back-to-back explosions, but it tumbles out of control
After back-to-back explosions, SpaceX launched its mega rocket Starship again on Tuesday evening, but fell short of the main objectives when the spacecraft tumbled out of control and broke apart.
The 403-foot (123-meter) rocket blasted off on its ninth demo from Starbase, SpaceX’s launch site at the southern tip of Texas. Residents voted this month to organize as an official city.
CEO Elon Musk ‘s SpaceX hoped to release a series of mock satellites following liftoff, but that got nixed because the door failed to open all the way. Then the spacecraft began spinning as it skimmed space toward an uncontrolled landing in the Indian Ocean.
SpaceX later confirmed that the spacecraft experienced “a rapid unscheduled disassembly,” or burst apart. “Teams will continue to review data and work toward our next flight test,” the company said in an online statement.
Musk noted in a post on X it was a “big improvement” from the two previous demos, which ended in flaming debris over the Atlantic. Despite the latest setback, he promised a faster launch pace moving forward, with a Starship soaring every three to four weeks for the next three flights.
It was the first time one of Musk’s Starships — intended for moon and Mars travel — flew with a recycled booster. There were no plans to catch the booster with giant chopsticks back at the launch pad, with the company instead pushing it to its limits. Contact with the booster was lost at one point, and it slammed into the Gulf of Mexico in pieces as the spacecraft continued toward the Indian Ocean.
Then the spacecraft went out of control, apparently due to fuel leaks.
“Not looking great with a lot of our on-orbit objectives for today,” said SpaceX flight commentator Dan Huot. The company had been looking to test the spacecraft’s heat shield during a controlled reentry.
Communication ceased before the spacecraft came down, and SpaceX ended its webcast soon afterward.
The previous two Starships never made it past the Caribbean. The demos earlier this year ended just minutes after liftoff, raining wreckage into the ocean. No injuries or serious damage were reported, although airline travel was disrupted. The Federal Aviation Administration last week cleared Starship for another flight, expanding the hazard area and pushing the liftoff outside peak air travel times.
Besides taking corrective action and making upgrades, SpaceX modified the latest spacecraft’s thermal tiles and installed special catch fittings. This one was meant to sink in the Indian Ocean, but the company wanted to test the add-ons for capturing future versions back at the pad, just like the boosters.
NASA needs SpaceX to make major strides over the next year with Starship — the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built — in order to land astronauts back on the moon. Next year’s moonshot with four astronauts will fly around the moon, but will not land. That will happen in 2027 at the earliest and require a Starship to get two astronauts from lunar orbit to the surface and back off again.

Fed’s Williams calls for strong response if inflation deviates from target
Fed’s Williams calls for strong response if inflation deviates from target
By Leika Kihara
TOKYO (Reuters) -New York Federal Reserve President John Williams said on Wednesday central banks must “respond relatively strongly” when inflation begins to deviate from their target.
Given high uncertainty around the economic impact of U.S. tariffs and trade policy, central banks should focus on avoiding taking steps where the “cost of getting it wrong far outweighs the benefits,” rather than aiming for the perfect solution to the problem, he said.
Among the costly risks central banks must avoid are to allow inflation expectations to deviate from their targets, Williams said in a fireside chat with BOJ Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino at the central bank’s conference held in Tokyo.
“You want to avoid inflation becoming highly persistent because that could become permanent,” Williams said. “And the way to do that is to respond relatively strongly” when inflation begins to deviate from the central bank’s target, he added.
Williams said shocks typically do not have long-lasting effects on inflation as long as inflation expectations are well anchored. But he warned there was always uncertainty on how supply-side shocks, such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, could affect public perceptions on future price moves.
“Uncertainty has risen pretty significantly,” he said “We have to be very aware that inflation expectations could shift in any way that could be detrimental.”
Given such uncertainties, central banks must strive to not just anchor long-term inflation expectations, but ensure shorter-term expectations are “well behaved” so that public perceptions of future price moves emerge back towards central bank targets “within several years,” Williams said.
U.S. President Donald Trump‘s sweeping tariffs and erratic trade policies have complicated central bankers’ task of keeping inflationary pressure in check, without cooling too much economies already facing the damage from higher levies.
The Fed has kept its policy rate unchanged at 4.25%-4.50% since December, as officials pause for more clarity on the economic and price impact of Trump’s tariffs.
Policymakers are also having to grapple with volatile market moves caused by Trump’s on-and-off comments on U.S. trade negotiations with other countries.
While global financial markets experienced “huge shocks” and volatility in April after Trump’s announcement of sweeping reciprocal tariffs, they did not see a “dissolution,” Williams said.
Story Continues
“One of the things you definitely saw in April was a lot of flow between buyers and sellers,” which was a sign markets were functioning, he added.
The level of reserves in the U.S. is “clearly abundant” judging by many metrics the New York Fed monitors, and serves as a buffer against unforeseen shocks, Williams said.
“When you get big shocks and you’re seeing unanticipated shocks, it’s really nice that there’s a buffer” that absorb the market ramifications, he added.

Nintendo Switch System Update Out Now, Here Are The Patch Notes
Nintendo Switch System Update Out Now, Here Are The Patch Notes
Ahead of the Switch 2’s launch next week, Nintendo has rolled out a new system update for the original Switch. This one is much smaller than the 20.0.0 update released last month, but it makes some notable visual and audio changes to bring the interface in line with the system’s upcoming successor.
As detailed in Nintendo’s patch notes, the new 20.1.0 update tweaks the look of the home screen’s Parental Control settings button, changing the color from orange to red. On top of that, the sound that plays when launching the Nintendo Switch Online menu has also been changed, now matching the same sound that plays on the Switch 2.

Now Playing: Nintendo Switch 2 – Official System Overview Trailer
Rounding out the update, Nintendo has also made its usual assortment of “system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.” You can read the full patch notes for the 20.1.0 update below.
That isn’t the only new update to arrive in preparation for the Switch 2. Nintendo has also released a 2.0.7 patch for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, marking the first update the game has received since November 2022. This new patch “improved the compatibility for multiplayer sessions between Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches around the world on June 5. Despite that, it seems the system has already gotten into some people’s hands, although it reportedly prompts users to “Please connect to the internet and update your system” when booted.
The Switch 2 system on its own retails for $450, while a bundle with Mario Kart World runs for $500. The latter, however, will only be produced through Fall 2025. For more on the upcoming console, check out our roundup of everything we know about Switch 2.

*********** shares hit three-month high as Wall St jumps
*********** shares hit three-month high as Wall St jumps
The *********** share market has hit a three-month high after Wall Street rallied in its first session since US President Donald Trump’s latest tariff backflip.
By midday on Wednesday, the S&P/ASX200 was up 15.2 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 8,422.6, as the broader All Ordinaries rose 20.4 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 8,651.9.
The local bourse was riding overnight momentum from Wall Street overnight, where the S&P500 jumped two per cent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq rallied 2.47 per cent, as President Trump flagged progress in European Union trade talks.
Mr Trump roiled markets on Friday when he threatened 50 per cent duties on EU goods, before delaying their start date to July 9.
“(A) more constructive tone in the US-EU trade negotiations injected a good dose of optimism into financial markets,” Westpac senior economist Mantas Vagnas said.
“An unexpected improvement in the US consumer confidence in May also supported risk assets.”
Concerns about public finances in the United States and Japan also eased, as the world’s first- and third-largest bond markets rallied, pushing yields lower and boosting confidence.
Australia’s top-200 stocks surged 47.5 points, or 0.57 per cent in early trading to within 1.2 per cent of its best ever close, but eased ahead of a monthly inflation print, which came in slightly higher than forecast.
Monthly consumer price index figures came in steady in the 12 months to April at 2.4 per cent, hotter than the forecast 2.3 per cent.
Nine of 11 local sectors were trading higher by lunchtime, with IT stocks leading gains with a 1.7 per cent rally, tracking with US tech strength ahead of an expected bumper earnings report from chipmaker Nvidia on Wednesday night.
Banks gave up a lot of their early gains, with financials rallying 0.5 per cent in the first hour of trading before easing to a 0.1 per cent gain by midday.
The Commonwealth Bank was grinding higher, up 0.2 per cent to $175.71 as NAB, ANZ and Westpac sold off.
Most miners were heavy, with the materials sector slipping 0.3 per cent as iron ore prices fell to a more than two week low, weighing on BHP and Rio Tinto.
Gold miners were a mixed bag as the precious metal’s price continued to consolidate around $US3,300 ($A5,132) an ounce.
Energy stocks rose 1.1 per cent as oil prices pushed Woodside and Santos higher, as coal miners Whitehaven (+2.8 per cent) and New Hope Corporation (+2.0 per cent) rallied.
Brent crude futures are trading at $US63.77 a barrel, edging higher as the US banned Chevron from exporting Venezuelan oil.
The *********** dollar sold off by roughly 0.3 per cent in the wake of the inflation print and is buying 64.33 US cents, down from 64.75 on Tuesday at 5pm.
While Wednesday’s inflation figures were higher than expected, headline CPI of 2.4 per cent and 2.8 per cent trimmed mean inflation – the RBA’s preferred measure – were still within the central bank’s target range, State Street Markets APAC strategy head Dwyfor Evans.
“Given the continued uncertainty around tariffs, strong jobs market and the base effects pressures in Q3, expect the RBA to maintain its cautious stance on prospective easing,” he said.

Major Supermarket Chain’s Drivers Vote to Authorize Strike
Major Supermarket Chain’s Drivers Vote to Authorize Strike
Kroger drivers could soon be striking.
Teamsters at Kroger’s Forest Park, Georgia, fulfillment center voted in favor to authorize a strike on Tuesday, after they say the company has “repeated refusal to negotiate a fair agreement.”
According to a May 27 press release, the workers–who are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 528–are “demanding a first Teamsters contract with strong wages, good benefits, and enforceable workplace protections.”
The vote to authorize a strike follows the 30 CDL drivers who voted by a 96 percent margin to join the Teamsters last year, and in the months since, have accused Kroger of “slow-walking negotiations” and failing “to offer a contract that meets basic standards.”
“Kroger needs to stop dragging its feet and deliver a real offer that respects the work we do,” said Marion Jackson, a Kroger driver and Local 528 shop steward, in a statement. “This company can more than afford what we’re asking for. We are ready to strike if Kroger doesn’t start taking our demands seriously.”
“These workers organized with the Teamsters to win better wages, real benefits, and respect on the job,” Tom Erickson, director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, added. “If Kroger refuses to deliver, we’ll do whatever it takes to hold them accountable. We will never allow any company to shortchange our members.”
The drivers are also receiving strong support from local community groups, including the Concerned ****** Clergy of Metropolitan Atlanta, with president of the organization Rev. Shanan E. Jones calling the situation “shameful.”
“The men and women who drive and deliver Kroger’s products are the same ones driving Kroger’s profits,” Jones said in a statement. “They deserve dignity, respect, and their fair share.”
Kroger, which is one of the largest supermarket chains in the U.S., currently operates over 2,700 stores nationwide. Last year, the company claimed more than $147.1 billion in revenue and reported over $2 billion in profits, according to officials.
A rep for Kroger did not immediately respond to Parade’s request for comment.

Texas governor signs online safety law in blow to Apple and Google
Texas governor signs online safety law in blow to Apple and Google
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed an online child safety bill that requires Apple and Google to ensure that their app stores verify the age of users in the nation’s second most populous state.
Under the new law, minors will need parental approval before they can download apps or make in-app purchases. The bill was opposed by Google and Apple.
“We believe there are better proposals that help keep kids safe without requiring millions of people to turn over their personal information,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the BBC.
Texas follows Utah, another conservative state, which adopted a similar law earlier this year.
At the federal level, US lawmakers have spearheaded the Kids Online Safety Act, known as KOSA, which would require social media companies to make design choices that prevent and mitigate harms to young users.
KOSA was passed by the US Senate last year but stalled in the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the US Congress.
The proposed bipartisan legislation, which Apple supports, was reintroduced in Congress earlier this month.
In the absence of a federal law, the states have chosen to come up with their own legislation.
Laws that call for age-verification has long pitted app store providers like Apple and Google against social media companies.
Meta, which owns the social media network Facebook and photo sharing app Instagram, has lobbied for Apple and Google to be responsible for verifying the age of users.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple chief executive Tim Cook called Governor Abbott earlier this month in a bid to stop the passage of the state’s bill.
An Apple spokesperson said the tech giant shares “the goal of strengthening kids’ online safety” but added it was “deeply concerned” by the threat it believes the law poses to the privacy of all users.
“t requires app marketplaces to collect and keep sensitive personal identifying information for every Texan who wants to download an app, even if it’s an app that simply provides weather updates or sports scores,” the company spokesperson said.
In February, Apple announced a slew of new child safety measures, including a requirement that users select an age range on a new device.
For users under 13, a parent or guardian must provide consent for a child to use the App Store and other features that require the use of its Face ID.
The law is set to take effect on1 January.
Texas has pressured Silicon Valley through legislation before.
In 2021, the state made it ******** for social media platforms to ban users based on their “political viewpoints” after Republican politicians accused Facebook and the company then known as Twitter of censoring their opinions.

*********** man arrested in Bali says he had no idea drug parcels contained ********
*********** man arrested in Bali says he had no idea drug parcels contained ********
An *********** man who could face the death penalty in Indonesia over an alleged attempt to smuggle $1.1m worth of ******** into Bali claims he was set up and had no idea the parcels he collected contained drugs.
Lamar Ahchee, 43, originally from Cairns and the son of former Queensland senior constable Les Ahchee, was arrested last Thursday after allegedly collecting two drug-filled parcels sent from the ***.
Authorities allege 1.8kg of ******** was concealed inside two Gold Lindt chocolate boxes, with each box containing 54 individually wrapped packets of the drug that weighed 8.3g per packet.
Mr Ahchee allegedly tested positive for drugs while in custody.
His lawyer, Edward Pangkahila, said his client denied any involvement in drug trafficking.
“He’s telling me that honestly, he doesn’t know what was inside. We’re still looking for that somebody who tell him to take this package,” Mr Pangkahila said.
“The police have to find this guy.”
Mr Pangkahila said his client was “very upset and stressed” by the ordeal.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that consular support was being provided to an *********** man detained in Bali but declined to provide further information due to privacy obligations.
Bali police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya said the parcels arrived in Indonesia on May 12 and were flagged as suspicious after being scanned at Ngurah Rai Airport.
A controlled delivery was then conducted by customs and the Bali Regional Police Narcotics Directorate.
One parcel was allegedly sent from Runwell, east of London, addressed to “Alex and Julie” in Kuta Utara, near Canggu. The other reportedly came from Braintree and was addressed to “Dave Jones” in the same area.
On May 22, police allege Mr Ahchee arranged for a driver to pick up the parcels. After meeting the driver at a restaurant, he allegedly took the packages back to a location in Canggu, where he was arrested by the Bali drug squad. Authorities say he resisted arrest and sustained injuries during the encounter.
Police allege Mr Ahchee was in possession of 1.8kg of ********, an amount that carries the death penalty under Indonesian law, and he was offered nearly 50 million rupiah (about $A4700) to receive and distribute the drugs. He has since been charged with three drug offences, including importing narcotics.
Mr Ahchee has been living in Bali since 2017. He previously worked in hospitality and resigned as general manager of Canggu restaurant Brick Lane Bali in November last year after eight months in the role.
His LinkedIn profile states he co-founded and directed tech companies in Jakarta and Bali from 2019 and previously worked in marketing in Sydney.
His arrest comes just five months after the final members of the infamous Bali Nine returned to Australia, almost two decades after they were caught attempting to smuggle heroin from the holiday island in 2005.
Ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed by firing squad in 2015. Another member, Tan Duc Thanh Nguyen, died in custody in 2018.
Renae Lawrence, who was the only member to avoid a life sentence or the death penalty, was released in 2018.
The group had attempted to smuggle 8.3kg of heroin strapped to their bodies.

Information of 38,000 UChicago medical group patients potentially exposed in cybersecurity breach
Information of 38,000 UChicago medical group patients potentially exposed in cybersecurity breach
The personal information of about 38,000 patients of a UChicago Medicine medical group may have been exposed in a cybersecurity incident involving one of the group’s vendors.
UCM Medical Group said in a news release that one of its vendors — debt collection agency Nationwide Recovery Service — notified the group that in July an unauthorized person accessed the company’s systems. The person obtained information from certain files and folders, according to the news release.
The exposed information may have included first and last names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account information and/or medical-related information. Nationwide Recovery Service told the medical group it is not aware, at this point, of any misuse of the information, according to the release.
The medical group has terminated its relationship with Nationwide Recovery Service and has sent notices to affected individuals. The medical group was formerly known as Primary Healthcare Associates.
“UCM Medical Group remains committed to protecting the confidentiality of all patients and we take this seriously,” the group said in a news release.
Nationwide Recovery Service works with health care providers to help them recover money from unpaid bills, among other services.
A number of other health care systems have also been affected by the incident, including Northeast Georgia Health System, Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in North Carolina and Harbin Clinic in Georgia.
Cybersecurity incidents and data breaches at health care systems across the country have become increasingly common. Cybercriminals often target health care systems partly because they hold large amounts of sensitive information.
In recent months, Loretto Hospital on Chicago’s West Side reported that the personal information of more than 500 people may have been exposed in a hacking incident there.
Cybercriminals attacked Chicago’s Lurie Children’s Hospital last year, and it took more than a month for Lurie to get all of its systems back online after the attack. Cybercriminals also targeted health system Ascension last year, which had 14 hospitals in Illinois at the time.
