  2. Israel has accepted a new US proposal for a ceasefire Israel has accepted a new US proposal for a ceasefire Israel has accepted a new US proposal for a temporary ceasefire with ******, the White House says. The fresh signs of progress towards a temporary truce came after US president Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, expressed optimism earlier this week about brokering an agreement to halt the Israel-****** war and return more of the hostages captured in the attack that ignited it. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Israel “backed and supported” the new proposal. She added that ****** continues to evaluate the proposal. The new proposal was intended to return surviving as well as dead hostages still being held in Gaza in exchange for an an extended truce in fighting. ****** has said it had agreed with Witkoff on a “general framework” of an agreement that would lead to a lasting ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, an influx of aid, and a transfer of power from the militant group to a politically independent committee of Palestinians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to end the war until all the hostages are released and ****** is either destroyed or disarmed and sent into exile. He has said Israel will control Gaza indefinitely and facilitate what he refers to as the voluntary emigration of much of its population. Palestinians and most of the international community have rejected plans to resettle Gaza’s population, a move experts say would likely violate international law. ****** has said it will only release the remaining hostages – its only bargaining chip – in return for more ************ prisoners, a lasting ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal. It has offered to give up power to a committee of politically independent Palestinians that could oversee reconstruction. ****** is still holding 58 hostages. Around a third are believed to be alive, though many fear they are in grave danger the longer the war goes on. Thousands of Palestinians have been killed since Israel renewed its air strikes and ground operations after ending a ceasefire in March. The dispute over whether there should be a temporary ceasefire to release more hostages – as Israel has called for, or a permanent one, as ****** wants – has hampered talks brokered by the US, Egypt and Qatar for more than a year and a half, and there is no indication it has been resolved. Witkoff has not publicised his latest proposal, but a ****** official and an Egyptian official independently confirmed some of the details. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive talks. They say it calls for a 60-day pause in fighting, guarantees of serious negotiations leading to a long-term truce and assurances that Israel will not resume hostilities after the release of hostages, as it did in March. Israeli forces would pull back to the positions they held during the ceasefire that Israel ended that month. ****** would release 10 living hostages and a number of bodies during the 60-day pause in exchange for more than 1,100 Palestinians imprisoned by Israel, including 100 serving long sentences after being convicted of deadly attacks. Each day, hundreds of trucks carrying food and humanitarian aid would be allowed to enter Gaza, where experts say a nearly three-month Israeli blockade – slightly eased in recent days – has pushed the population to the brink of famine. ******-led militants stormed southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251 hostages. Israel’s ensuing military campaign has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not say how many of the dead were civilians or combatants. The offensive has destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90 per cent of its population of roughly two million Palestinians, with hundreds of thousands living in squalid tent camps and unused schools. Effects from previous strategic blunders helped drive sales and net income 9% and 32% lower in Q3, respectively. Management’s focus is on clearing out older inventory, emphasizing the brand’s strength, and introducing in-demand products. Shares look extremely undervalued, but a successful turnaround could take time. These 10 stocks could mint the next wave of millionaires › After a volatile start to the year, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has come roaring back. It’s up 8% just in the past month, slowly approaching its peak. But not all businesses are benefiting from renewed bullish fever on Wall Street. As of May 23, one well-known consumer discretionary stock is trading a gut-wrenching 66% below its all-time record, established in November 2021. There’s a lot of pessimism, but maybe it’s time to take a closer look at this company as a potential 20-year holding. Image source: Getty Images. The business whose shares have fallen off a cliff is none other than Nike (NYSE: NKE). The sportswear giant has had a difficult run in recent years. The previous management team, led by then-CEO John Donahoe, was all in on going digital and direct-to-consumer. This backfired with wholesale accounts, leading to greater visibility for rival products. Nike’s sales in Q3 2025 (ended March 20) were down 9% year over year. And the expectation is for the top line to drop to the low end of the mid-teens range in the fourth quarter. A lack of product innovation has also added to the issues. CEO Elliott Hill is trying to fix these problems. One of the top priorities is to start introducing footwear that gets consumers excited. On the distribution front, it’s about meeting customers where they are. Nike just announced it will begin selling products on Amazon. But first, Nike must move past its challenges. This means getting rid of old inventory. To do this, the business has offered excess promotions and markdowns. That’s why the gross margin shrunk from 44.8% in the year-ago ******* to 41.5% in Q3. “We expect these actions will continue through the first half of fiscal 2026,” Nike CFO Matt Friend said on the earnings call when discussing the outlook of cleaning out stale inventory. The good news is that revenue and gross margin trends should start to improve. Nike’s ongoing challenges, coupled with the success of competitors, have led to declining market share. According to GlobalData, the business had 14.1% market share of the global sportswear industry in 2024, down from 15.2% the year before. Nonetheless, Nike is still the clear leader. Story Continues Hill and his team must focus on the fact that it remains the top dog in the industry. This means emphasizing the brand, the key asset that supports the company’s economic moat. In the fashion industry, it can be difficult to find lasting success. Businesses must always try to figure out how consumer tastes are changing and then deliver on these needs. For what it’s worth, Nike’s brand has stood the test of time. It helps that the company partners with top athletes and sports leagues. This raises its credibility on a worldwide stage. What’s more, Nike’s $48 billion trailing-12-month revenue base means it has greater financial resources than any other competitor to continue investing in marketing efforts and research and development initiatives. With sales and earnings tanking, the market has soured on the business. Consequently, shares trade at a historically cheap valuation. The current price-to-earnings ratio of 19.9 is near the trailing-10-year low, highlighting extreme investor pessimism. However, I think only patient investors comfortable with uncertainty should consider buying the stock. Ongoing economic fears, coupled with the dynamic tariff situation, create new headwinds Nike must navigate. A successful turnaround could take longer than expected. But if you’re bullish on the durability of the brand, as well as Nike’s ability to create in-demand products, tell compelling marketing stories, and eventually get back to revenue and profit growth, this could work out to be a solid investment opportunity over the next two decades. 5. England vs West Indies: Harry Brook’s reign begins with huge win England vs West Indies: Harry Brook’s reign begins with huge win England racked up 400 to begin Harry Brook’s reign as captain with a comprehensive 238-run defeat of West Indies in the first one-day international at Edgbaston. Brook, Ben Duckett and Joe Root all posted half-centuries, but the most impressive contribution came from Jacob Bethell, who struck 82 from 53 ******. England’s 400-8 after being asked to bat was the sixth time they have reached 400 in an ODI, their highest total in three years and best against a Test-playing nation since they won the World Cup in 2019. West Indies were ordinary with the ball and would have conceded plenty more had they not taken three superb catches. The chase was a non-event, the second half of the game little more than a procession after Saqib Mahmood ran through the West Indies top order for 3-32. The highlight was Brydon Carse’s spectacular catch at deep square leg to hold West Indies captain Shai Hope off Mahmood. The tourists were hustled out for 162 in 26.2 overs. The lack of spectacle will matter little to England, who were desperate for any sort of victory after a wretched 18 months in white-ball cricket. This ended a seven-match losing streak in ODIs and the series can be sealed with victory in Cardiff on Sunday. 7. What Investigators Found Intact From Wreckage What Investigators Found Intact From Wreckage Originally appeared on E! Online New details about from the Titan submersible tragedy continue to emerge. Nearly two years after the implosion of OceanGate Expeditions’ small tourist sub killed all five passengers, investigators shared what was found in the wreckage, including personal items belonging to the company’s CEO Stockton Rush. “Mr. Rush’s clothing—it was actually caked inside of sand,” U.S. Coast Guard investigator Lt. Kelly Steele said in the new Discovery documentary Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster, which premiered May 28. “It was the piece of his sleeve that had survived. No, not the whole suit. And inside of the sleeve of it was ink pen, business cards and stickers for the Titanic.” Steele continued, “And there was nothing else but that. But each one of those pieces, even the pen, was still intact. It hadn’t been broken. All of this debris, all of these things shattered, but his pen was still intact.” The documentary detailing the doomed voyage to visit the Titanic wreckage also features footage of what the Coast Guard believes is the moment the Titan sub imploded. More from E! Online While monitoring communications from the sub, Rush’s wife Wendy Rush—the director of OceanGate—is shown reacting to the sound of a muffled thump as the vessel reached 3,300 meters. Addressing employee Gary Foss, she asked, “What was that bang?” The Coast Guard, which released the OceanGate-recorded video just ahead of the film’s debut, noted in a Department of Defense news release that the sound the two heard from the monitoring station “later correlated with the loss of communications and tracking” and that it “is believed to be the sound of the Titan’s implosion reaching the surface of the ocean.” Xinhua News Agency/Shutterstock In addition to the CEO, 61, billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, 58, French oceanographer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood also died in the tragedy, which occurred more than two miles beneath the surface off the coast of Newfoundland. Read on for more about the five victims of the Titan disaster… Shahzada Dawood & Son Suleman Dawood On June 18, 2023, a deep-sea submersible Titan, operated by the U.S.-based company OceanGate Expeditions and carrying five people on a voyage to the wreck of the Titanic, was declared missing. Following a five-day search, the U.S. Coast Guard announced at a June 22 press conference that the vessel suffered a “catastrophic implosion” that killed all five passengers on board. Pakistani-born businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood, both British citizens, were also among the victims. Their family is one of the wealthiest in Pakistan, with Shahzada Dawood serving as the vice chairman of Engro Corporation, per The New York Times. His son was studying at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Shahzada’s sister Azmeh Dawood told NBC News that Suleman had expressed reluctance about going on the voyage, informing a relative that he “wasn’t very up for it” and felt “terrified” about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, but ultimately went to please his father, a Titanic fan, for Father’s Day. The Dawood Foundation mourned their deaths in a statement to the website, saying, “It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of Shahzada and Suleman Dawood. Our beloved sons were aboard OceanGagte’s Titan submersible that perished underwater. Please continue to keep the departed souls and our family in your prayers during this difficult ******* of mourning.” Stockton Rush OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush was the pilot of the Titan. The entrepreneur—who founded the research company in 2009 in Everett, Wash.—had long been interested in exploration. Rush, 61, previously said he dreamed of becoming the first person on Mars and once said that he’d “like to be remembered as an innovator.” In addition to leading voyages to see the remnants of the Titanic, Rush had another surprising connection to the historic 1912 event: His wife Wendy Rush is the great-great-granddaughter of a couple who died on the Titanic, Ida and Isidor Straus. Hamish Harding British billionaire Hamish Harding confirmed he was a part of the mission in a June 17 Instagram post, a day before the submersible went into the water and disappeared. “I am proud to finally announce that I joined @oceangateexped for their RMS TITANIC Mission as a mission specialist on the sub going down to the Titanic,” he wrote. “Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023. A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow.” Harding—the chairman of aircraft company Action Aviation—said the group had started steaming from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada and was planning to start dive operations around 4 a.m. on June 18. The 58-year-old added, “Until then we have a lot of preparations and briefings to do.” His past explorations included traveling to the deepest part of the ocean in the Mariana Trench, telling Gulf News in 2021, “It was an incredibly hostile environment. To travel to parts of the Challenger Deep where no human had ever been before was truly remarkable.” The Dubai-based businessman also circumnavigated the Earth by plane with the One More Orbit project and, last year, took a trip to space on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepard rocket. Harding shared his love for adventure with his son Giles, described as a “teen explorer” on his Instagram. Paul-Henri Nargeolet As for the fifth member, a representative for French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet told the New York Times that he was a passenger on the Titan, with Harding also referencing him on Instagram as a member of the team. The Times described him as a maritime expert who was previously part of the French Navy. The 71-year-old was a bonafide Titanic specialist and has traveled to the wreckage 35 times before. Nargeolet served as the director of RMS Titanic, Inc., a company that researches, salvages and displays artifacts from the famed ship, per the outlet. Alongside fellow passenger Hamish Harding, he was a member of The Explorers Club, founded in 1904. The Titan As Harding noted in his post, the submersible—named Titan—was a part of an OceanGate Expeditions tour that explores the wreckage of the RMS Titanic, which infamously sank in 1912. The company expressed its sympathies to the families of the victims. “These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans,” OceanGate said in a statement. “Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time. We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew.” For the latest breaking news updates, click here to download the E! 8. CoD’s Infamous Riot Shield Returns In ****** Ops 6, But Not How You Think CoD’s Infamous Riot Shield Returns In ****** Ops 6, But Not How You Think One of the most infamous items in Call of Duty is the riot shield, and it’s making its ****** Ops 6 debut–but not how you might think. Now that the Season 4 update has gone live, the new battle pass is out, too, and one of the rewards is a riot shield-themed finishing move. As you can see in the video below, the finishing move animation involves the attacker smacking their foe with the shield and then hitting them with a pipe. The finishing move is called “On the Ground” and it’s on page 9 of the battle pass. People have pointed out that it appears to be the Call of Duty: Vanguard-era riot shield that’s now in ****** Ops 6. Activision confirmed prior to ****** Ops 6’s launch in 2024 that the riot shield would not be in the game upon release, and indeed it’s still not in the game for functional gameplay purposes beyond the finisher. The riot shield can be particularly frustrating to run up against in matches because it deflects incoming fire and requires players to try different tactics to defeat a player using it. Skilled players who successfully utilize the riot shield can sway the flow of any given match, especially so in certain modes like Hardpoint and Domination. Some people love the riot shield and others very much do not. ****** Ops 6 does already have a shield, of sorts, as players can use their enemies as a “meat shield” similar to the long-running feature in the Gears of War games. If a player can successfully sneak up behind an enemy, they can choose to use them as a body shield for a ******* of time, or execute them immediately. For more, check out GameSpot’s rundown of all the new maps and guns in the Season 4 update, along with our breakdown of what’s in the new battle pass. On Thursday, May 29, Mia, who is using a pseudonym, recalled the alleged 2013 incident, which previously came up in Ventura’s testimony as well as Deonte Nash’s, Combs’ former stylist, who spoke about the alleged attack one day earlier. “I realized we were in real danger,” Mia testified through tears while recalling the moment when she and Nash jumped on Combs’ back to try and stop him. Nash previously told the court that Combs threw him and Mia off his back while continuing to beat Ventura until she hit her head on a bed frame. Mia testified Tuesday that Combs “slammed” Ventura’s head into a sharp corner of the bed and split her head open. At one point, Combs allegedly said, “Look what y’all made me do,” per Nash’s testimony. Then, Combs allegedly “immediately snapped to protector mode and asked to have a doctor he knows called to tell them Cassie had fell and injured herself because she was drunk,” Mia testified. Earlier on Thursday, Mia said she worked for Combs from 2009 to 2017, and that her role included reading his mood each day because it dictated everything. She described the work environment as “toxic,” and listed several occasions where Combs was allegedly violent towards her. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Synopsys pulls guidance, citing new China export restrictions Synopsys pulls guidance, citing new China export restrictions Sassine Ghazi, CEO of semiconductor design software firm Synopsys, explains the company’s plans to have artificial intelligence take over parts of designing computer chips at the company’s annual user conference in Santa Clara, California, on March 19, 2025. Stephen Nellis | Reuters Synopsys pulled its guidance for the full fiscal year on Thursday, citing a letter it received from the U.S. Commerce Department on restrictions of sales of its products in China. The stock dropped about 3%. The announcement comes one day after Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi disputed a report that the White House told the company, as well as rivals Cadence and Siemens, to stop selling to clients in China. He said he had wanted to address the swirling of speculation. “Synopsys is currently assessing the potential impact of the BIS Letter on its business, operating results and financial condition,” the company said in a statement on Thursday. On a conference call with analysts on Wednesday, Ghazi had said the company saw a slowdown in China during its fiscal second quarter, which ended on April 30. The 2025 fiscal year ends in October. “Recall as we started sometime in FY 2024 communicating that we are seeing both a cumulative impact of the restrictions in China as well as the macro situation inside China have caused us to continue on communicating that this deceleration will continue, and that headwind has gotten stronger as we go through the each quarter over the last year, year and a half,” he said. 14. This energy stock could see a ‘big base breakout’ to the upside, according to the charts This energy stock could see a ‘big base breakout’ to the upside, according to the charts While energy has become a chronic underperformer in 2025, there are several infrastructure plays within the sector that are demonstrating much more constructive technical configurations as we near the end of May. Today we’ll examine how Williams Companies (WMB) may be preparing for a “big base breakout” pattern with significant upside potential. The daily chart of WMB shows how the stock was in a clear accumulation phase for most of 2024, rising from a February 2024 low around $35 to reach just over $60 by November. From that point on, the chart settled into a consolidation phase with support around $52 and resistance in the $60-$62 area. With the price in a clear equilibrium for the past six months, we’ve been waiting patiently for a big base breakout pattern. After trending sideways for an extended *******, the price finally exits the range and makes new high above the well-established resistance level. We can use the height of the basing pattern to project a minimum upside objective post-breakout. Based on the recent setup, that would imply a bullish target of around $72 if and only if WMB can power to a new all-time high above $62. What gives us confidence that the big base breakout pattern will be completed? Volume indicators suggest that even though the price has been in a consolidation phase, there has been more bullish than bearish volume in 2025. The bottom indicator, Chaikin Money Flow, weights the daily volume readings based on where the stock closes every day within its daily range. If a stock closes near the highs of the day, then that day’s volume is considered mostly bullish volume. A close near the lows would imply that most of the day’s volume was more selling pressure. The Chaikin Money Flow has been above the zero line since December 2024, suggesting that even though the price has been in a sideways trend, there has been more buying power demonstrated versus selling pressure. If we can confirm a breakout above price resistance with improving Money Flow readings, that would confirm that the bulls are firmly in control. Finally, let’s dig into some relative strength measures that show Williams has performed relative to other areas of the equity markets. First, we can see that WMB has outperformed the S & P 500 over the past 12 months, with the relative line again turning higher in recent weeks. Next, we’re showing the relative performance of the energy stocks as a whole to confirm that this sector has indeed been one of the worst relative performers in 2025. In fact, the sector is close to making a new 12-month relative low this week. In the next two panels, we can see that WMB has been outperforming other pipeline companies in 2025, and that pipelines have been a strong relative performer over other energy stocks during the last year. Overall, we can confirm that the strength in Williams is not only a thematic play on energy infrastructure but also represents an individual stock that has differentiated itself within the industry. I was taught that the best approach is to find winning stocks in leading industries and then follow those uptrends as long as possible. Given a potential upside breakout for WMB, investors may be rewarded for following the latest signs of a strong uptrend phase. -David Keller, CMT marketmisbehavior.com DISCLOSURES: None. 16. 17. Will Trump’s attempted to ban from Harvard enrolling foreign students hold up in court? Will Trump’s attempted to ban from Harvard enrolling foreign students hold up in court? Getty Images Students attend Harvard University’s graduation ceremony on 28 May In the latest escalation of its feud with Harvard University, the Trump administration has targeted the school’s permission to enrol foreign students on visas. The government’s initially revoked Harvard’s certification “effective immediately,” prompting a swift lawsuit from Harvard and a temporary restraining order from a federal court in Boston. On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security appeared to walk back its initial revocation, now telling Harvard it had “30 calendar days” to show it was complying with the agency’s visa programme requirements. At a hearing that same morning, US District Court Judge Allison Burroughs indicated she would soon issue a broader injunction against the Trump administration while the case played out. The legal battle, closely watched by other US universities and the thousands of foreigners who study there. Harvard University is the most prominent academic institution to face the Trump administration’s ire – and the most prominent so far to push back. There are two main questions at play, lawyers say. Do the government’s reasons for targeting Harvard’s participation in the student visa programme hold up under the law? And, are those reasons legitimate, or just a pretext for punishing Harvard for constitutionally protected speech the administration dislikes? While legal experts agree the Trump administration could lose if courts find it targeted Harvard for ideological reasons, the government has taken steps that could help it prevail – with broader, thorny implications. Looming over the showdown is a ******* question: Can the US government dictate what universities can teach, who they can hire, and who can enrol? “This could be the type of case that could, on a fast track-basis, flow from the district court to the First Circuit to the US Supreme Court,” said Aram Gavoor, an associate dean at George Washington University Law School and a former Department of Justice attorney. How much power does the government have to revoke Harvard’s visa certification? America’s academic visas on which international students, researchers and faculty rely to study in the US is overseen by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, a subsidiary of the Department of Homeland Security. To participate, universities must receive certification from DHS through the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme (SEVP). The government last week revoked Harvard’s SEVP certification, gutting its ability to host international students and researchers. “In terms of the general authority of DHS, it’s quite strong. It’s a certifying agency for this programme and there’s a variety of bases on which decertification can take place,” Mr Gavoor said. Courts tend to be deferential to the agency, as well. “There are certain limits to it, though,” he said. The US Constitution’s First Amendment, which guarantees free speech for individuals as well as corporations and entities like Harvard, is a powerful protection – and one that Harvard invoked again and again in its lawsuit. If judges determine DHS’ basis for withdrawing Harvard’s certification stems from ideological differences and violates the university’s free speech rights, the court could rule against the government. “A lot will turn on whether the courts conclude whether the First Amendment is implicated here,” Mr Gavoor said. Free speech and antisemitism concerns References to Harvard’s alleged ideological leanings appear throughout the Trump administration’s letters and statements – possibly problematic for the White House in court, legal experts say. An 11 April letter ordered the university to make significant changes to its operations, including bringing in a third party “to audit the student body, faculty, staff, and leadership for viewpoint diversity.” President Trump attacked Harvard on Truth Social for “hiring almost all woke, Radical Left, idiots and ‘birdbrains'”. A separate post called for the university to lose its tax-exempt status “if it keeps pushing political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting ‘Sickness'”. In her 22 May letter to Harvard announcement about student visa eligibility, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Harvard was “hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-****** sympathies, and employs racist ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ policies.” Harvard argues that the Trump administration’s actions are not about combatting antisemitism or keeping Americans safe. Revoking visa certification is “the latest act by the government in clear retaliation for Harvard exercising its First Amendment rights to reject the government’s demands to control Harvard’s governance, curriculum, and the ‘ideology’ of its faculty and students,” the school says in its lawsuit. It also alleges the government violated Harvard’s right to due process and ignored proper procedures for taking action against it. “The administration is making clear that they are going after Harvard on account of viewpoints it’s ascribing to Harvard students and faculty and the institution itself,” said Will Creeley, Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression legal director. “The smoking gun is very smoky indeed, it’s right out there,” he said. Harvard must comply with federal non-discrimination laws that bar prejudice based on race, gender, national origin, or other protected classes, but “that doesn’t mean that the federal government can dictate acceptable pedagogy in Harvard’s classrooms,” he said. Decades of legal precedent and a critical 1957 US Supreme Court decision underpin this concept, said Mr Creeley. Could the Trump administration win? Despite Harvard’s argument, nuances could complicate its case. The US historically screens prospective international students for viewpoints it deems unsafe, which could include allegedly supporting terror or totalitarian regimes. In the past, ********** leanings were used to bar foreign academics from the US. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination against Jewish students. Secretary Noem’s letter to Harvard in on 22 May invokes these concepts to justify pulling certification, meaning it could “read in a way where all that conduct is potentially unlawful” on the university’s part, Mr Gavoor said. “The government could win here,” he said. Even if a judge bans the visa policy, Trump may already have won by chilling international enrollment, said Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, an immigration attorney representing Kilmar Abrego Garcia in a high-profile deportation case. “It’s similar to self-deportation. They want people to self-unenrol,” he said. At the White House on Wednesday, President Trump floated the idea of capping international students at 15% of Harvard’s student body. “We have people [who] want to go to Harvard and other schools,” he said. “They can’t get in because we have foreign students there.” Source link #Trumps #attempted #ban #Harvard #enrolling #foreign #students #hold #court Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Father-of-three Paul Doyle charged over Liverpool parade ****** Father-of-three Paul Doyle charged over Liverpool parade ****** Ewan Gawne & Jonny Humphries BBC News, Liverpool BBC Paul Doyle has been named by Merseyside Police and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court in the morning A father-of-three and former Royal Marine has been charged following the Liverpool parade ****** in which 79 people were injured. Paul Doyle, 53, from Burghill Road in West Derby, was arrested on Monday, when a car ploughed into football fans attending Liverpool’s Premier League victory celebration, Merseyside Police confirmed. A nine-year-old was among those injured when the car Mr Doyle is alleged to have been driving crashed into supporters at 18:00 BST on Water Street. The local businessman faces multiple counts of causing, and attempting to cause, unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm as well as one of dangerous driving and two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims, of Merseyside Police, told a news conference seven people remain in hospital after the incident. Mr Doyle is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday. The BBC has spoken to the suspect’s neighbours, who said they were shocked and in “disbelief”. They said that Burghill Road was swarming with police in the hours after the ******. One said: “I came out late on Monday night and there’s police everywhere. Looking around all the houses, so I had a thought – imagine if it was him?” Reuters Water Street reopened on Wednesday after the ****** Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said detectives were reviewing a “huge volume” of CCTV and mobile phone footage. Sarah Hammond, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Crown Prosecution Service in the Mersey-Cheshire region, said this included footage from CCTV, mobile phones, businesses and dashcams, along with witness statements. She said the charges “will be kept under review” while the investigation progresses. “It is important to ensure every victim gets the justice they deserve,” she added. PA Media Chief Crown Prosecutor Sarah Hammond (left) and Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims spoke at a news conference on Thursday Mr Doyle has been charged with seven offences, which can be broken down into four groups. The first includes two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) – one of these is an alleged offence against one child. The second is two counts of causing unlawful and malicious GBH with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. According to the Sentencing Council, it relates to the nature of the injury allegedly caused. GBH does not require an open wound to have been suffered. Wounding requires the victim’s skin to have been broken. Mr Doyle also faces two charges of attempted unlawful and malicious GBH with intent to cause GBH, and again one of these alleged offences relates to a child. The final count is dangerous driving. Police confirmed the ages of those injured in the incident ranged from nine to 78 and all 79. Assistant Chief Constable Sims, said she understood many have questions about the incident, and detectives were “working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek the answer to all of those questions”. “When we are able to, we will provide further information,” she added. In a discussion between Gamers Nexus and ASRock’s VP of motherboards, Chris Lee, the company confirmed its latest BIOS revision, 3.25, alters certain PBO settings to stop Ryzen 9000 chips from failing. A few days ago, YouTuber Tech Yes City revealed that ASRock had allegedly solved its Ryzen 9000 problem. The issue surrounded three power and voltage-related functions, Electric Design Current (EDC) and Thermal Design Current (TDC) in Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO), and shadow voltages which were set too high in older ASRock firmware. ASRock has since provided BIOS version 3.25 to its armada of AM5 motherboards with re-tuned EDC, TDC, and shadow voltage settings to rectify the issue. ASRock Failures Face-to-Face: Motherboards, BIOS, & Burned 9800X3D CPUs – YouTube Watch On ASRock confirmed to Gamers Nexus that it is solely responsible, and AMD’s chips aren’t causing problems. ASRock also stated it will cover shipping costs both ways if users RMA their motherboards. However, it notes that it has not seen a single damaged motherboard in this whole ordeal. You may like If customers RMA their motherboard with the faulty CPU, ASRock will automatically send the CPU back to the retailer from which the customer bought it. ASRock is not recommending users RMA this way; rather, this was to clarify what happens if this scenario occurs (particularly for less tech-savvy focused customers). ASRock also recommends that users check if BIOS version 3.25 is installed on brand-new AM5 ASRock motherboards and not to assume it is already preloaded from the factory. ASRock also apologized for not being as transparent with customers about the problem as it could be. This is the second time ASRock has had to provide BIOS updates to fix its “Ryzen 9000 death” problem. The first time, ASRock pinned the Ryzen 9000 failures on memory compatibility issues and claimed initially that the problem was fixed with a new BIOS update that rectified the memory compatibility issues. Only time will tell if ASRock’s second attempt will be successful. Evidence has already emerged that ASRock has not fully resolved this issue. 20. GNFL round six preview: Royals host Hawks while Northampton and Railways head to Kalbarri GNFL round six preview: Royals host Hawks while Northampton and Railways head to Kalbarri Chapman Valley will look to put the hammer down when they host Brigades at Mazzuchelli Oval on Saturday in what is shaping up to be match of the round in the GNFL. It will be a battle out of the middle between the Royals and the Hawks in what could be wet weather footy out at the Valley. The Royals’ last home game was a loss at the hands of Railways, in which the Blues ran over the top of Chapman Valley early in the third quarter. The reigning premiers will be looking to re-establish their home ground as a fortress this weekend. The last time the two met was in round two in both clubs’ first game of the season. That time Chapman Valley won by 51 points at the Hawks’ back yard at GBSC Sports Park, with the Royals’ Kane Kimpson kicking a five-goal bag. Simpson has failed to play a game since then due to a knee injury. It is unclear when he will return. The Royals’ midfield group were firing on all cylinders in the round two win, led by captain Ringo McKenna and Kim Schofield. Brigades will be looking for a big game from their ruckman Hayden Johnson who is coming off a commanding game against Rovers last weekend. The mids and forward line of Brigades had a day out last round with Alby Dean booting six goals, Dylan Ralph four and Hassan Ahmat-Watkins three. Chapman Valley pose a ******* challenge as the reigning premiers, along with Railways, are benchmark of the competition. Travelling to Kalbarri for round six are Railways and Northampton as the Blues look to continue their winning start to season 2025. Railways’ coach John Reynolds said the plan for the season so far has gone to plan nicely. “We’ve put ourselves together a bit of a plan and broken it into three or four phases throughout the year,” he said. “Our phase one is done at the moment, and we achieved what we needed to, but we’ve got to get through the next lot unscathed as well and keep the momentum going.” Reynolds expected a lively Northampton outfit, meaning his team would need to be switched on from the first quarter. Northampton’s coach Jeremy Heberle said despite their loss last weekend to Mullewa, the squad was coming together and improving game after game. “Last week, we should have really won, but that wasn’t the case,” he said. “We just made some fundamental errors and at the wrong times. “I think our boys are definitely hitting the right way mentally, as well as on the ground. “We came together as a group and this week has been good we are moving in the right direction.” Heberle said the squad was excited to play in Kalbarri and put on a great show for the locals. “The facilities up there are good enough to play football on, so they probably should be utilised more often,” he said. “The boys are keen to make a weekend of it and have a real crack at one of the top contenders in Railways this weekend.” Source link #GNFL #preview #Royals #host #Hawks #Northampton #Railways #Kalbarri Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  21. 4-Player Co-op Mod Unites the Bat-Family in Arkham Knight a Decade After Release 4-Player Co-op Mod Unites the Bat-Family in Arkham Knight a Decade After Release The Batman Arkham franchise is one of the greatest franchises in the history of video games. The series literally brings our favourite DC superhero to life and gives us the pleasure of playing as the Caped Crusader. While the whole series is a masterpiece of its own, what truly stands out from the rest is Batman: Arkham Knight. Batman: Arkham Knight is the fourth main installment in the franchise, and although the game is almost a decade old, fans of the title are enjoying it to the fullest even now. One hardcore fan even introduced a co-op mod to the game, which lets you and your friends play as characters in the Arkhamverse. Let’s delve deeper into this. Arkham Knight cancelled multiplayer plans Batman: Arkham Knight is a third-person action-adventure game that was developed and released by Rocksteady Studios back in June of 2015. Although the game was originally intended to be the last installment in the series, recent rumors floating around the internet suggest that a new Batman Arkham game might be in the making. Being the (supposed) final conclusion to the series, Rocksteady introduced and promised to introduce a lot of new elements into Arkham Knight, like the Batmobile. But one of those aspects that did not make it into the final release was the multiplayer co-op mode. With all the fantastic characters that were introduced in the game, not making it multiplayer felt like a missed opportunity. Hence, fans took that issue into their own hands and decided to make a mod that lets players experience a four-player coop mode just using three other controllers and the command console. The mod was created by SpideySansGoku back on the 16th of this month, and it already has more than 300 unique downloads. While the installation process looks a bit daunting, especially for players who just want to enjoy a hassle-free co-op experience, it is genuinely not that bad. If you just follow the step-by-step instructions, then you’ll easily be able to get the mod up and running without any hassle. The mod even has a long list of characters that players can choose and play as, which adds more dynamism to the game. The modding community saves the day again Everyone wanted a multiplayer version of Arkham Knight | Image Credits: Warner Bros. Instead of reigniting the passion for Arkham Knight, this mod brings in a new kind of fun to the game. After almost a decade of enjoying Arkham Knight completely alone, we finally have the chance to play it with friends and use different characters from the Bat-family. Although the mod does have its hiccups, and it does not seamlessly combine co-op with the OG single-player game, when you start playing it with your friends, it feels like there should have been a multiplayer aspect to it since the start. Looking back, it’s genuinely surprising that, even though having a massive open city to explore and a wide range of characters, Rocksteady never added the official co-op mode. This mod is what makes the entire Arkham fanbase so special. They don’t just find something is missing; they actively look for ways to introduce it in the game, and this co-op mode is not just a new feature, but a way of bringing people together. This shows that the series still has a lot to offer, and if a new Batman game is actually in the works, then Rocksteady should not miss out on the magic of multiplayer. 22. Nvidia Delivers Blowout Quarter While Writing Off China Nvidia Delivers Blowout Quarter While Writing Off China Analysts are mostly bullish on the AI chipmaker’s prospects. It was a double dose of good news for NVIDIA (NASDAQ:) investors on Thursday as the company posted better-than-expected earnings in Q1 and the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump were struck down by federal judges. There was some uncertainty heading into Wednesday’s earnings release by NVIDIA, as investors were unsure of the impact of tariffs and restrictions on selling in China on sales. But the results allayed some of those concerns as NVIDIA generated $44.1 billion in revenue, up 69% year-over-year and 12% from the previous quarter. That exceeded estimates of $43.3 billion. Net income rose 26% year-over-year to $18.8 billion, or 76 cents per share, but it was down 15% from the previous quarter. On an adjusted basis, net income was $19.9 billion, while earnings were 81 cents per share, up 33% year-over-year but down 9% from the previous quarter. But this is where the impact of China trade restrictions came in. On April 9, NVIDIA was told by the federal government that it would need a license to export its H20 chips into China. This resulted in a $4.5 billion charge in the quarter stemming from H20 excess inventory and purchase obligations as the demand for the chips diminished. “Sales of H20 products were $4.6 billion for the first quarter of fiscal 2026 prior to the new export licensing requirements. NVIDIA was unable to ship an additional $2.5 billion of H20 revenue in the first quarter,” management said in the earnings release. Minus the $4.5 billion charge and the related tax impact, adjusted earnings per share would have been 96 cents per share – which would beat estimates of 93 cents per share. That realization likely drove the share price higher. Further, the operating margin would have been 71.3% excluding the charge, as opposed to the actual 60.5% margin. Blackwell Chips Drive Revenue Surge NVIDIA continues to see surging demand from data centers, driven by its new, more powerful Blackwell chips. In the first quarter, NVIDIA generated $39.1 billion of its $44 billion from data centers – up 10% from the previous quarter and 73% year-over-year. “Our breakthrough Blackwell NVL72 AI supercomputer — a ‘thinking machine’ designed for reasoning— is now in full-scale production across system makers and cloud service providers,” Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said. “Global demand for NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure is incredibly strong. AI inference token generation has surged tenfold in just one year, and as AI agents become mainstream, the demand for AI computing will accelerate.” NVIDIA also had a record quarter with its gaming chips, as they brought in $3.8 billion in revenue, up 42% year-over-year and 48% from the previous quarter. China Market Closed to U.S. For the second quarter, NVIDIA expects to generate $45 billion in revenue, which would be up about 5% from the first quarter. However, it reflects about an $8 billion loss in revenue due to the export limitations for China. “Losing access to the China AI accelerator market, which we believe will grow to nearly $50 billion, would have a material adverse impact on our business going forward and benefit our foreign competitors in China and worldwide,” NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress said on the earnings call. Huang added that China is one of the world’s largest AI markets, with roughly 50% of the world’s AI researchers there. It is a “springboard to global success” for chipmakers, but it is now out of reach for U.S. companies. “Today, however, the $50 billion China market is effectively closed to US industry. The H20 export ban ended our Hopper data center business in China,” Huang said on the call. “As a result, we are taking a multibillion dollar write off on inventory that cannot be sold or repurposed. We are exploring limited ways to compete, but Hopper is no longer an option.” Looking ahead to Q2, NVIDIA anticipates a gross margin of 71.8% as it works toward achieving gross margins in the mid-70% range toward the end of the fiscal year. For the full fiscal year, operating expenses are projected to grow in the mid-30% range. Analysts were mostly bullish on the report, as NVIDIA stock got a slew of price target upgrades, led by Melius Research raising it by $55 per share, Citi and Piper Sandler boosting it by $30 per share, and BofA increasing it by $20 per share. NVIDIA stock is now in the green YTD, up 1.2% after being down all year. It is trading at $140 per share and has a median price target of $170 per share, suggesting a 21% return over the next 12 months. 24. I’m Amazed an 18-Year-Old Valve Game Still Has More Players Than Destiny 2 Right Now I’m Amazed an 18-Year-Old Valve Game Still Has More Players Than Destiny 2 Right Now Valve hasn’t launched a new title in forever, and Deadlock is still in early access, but their silence hasn’t stopped players from revisiting their older gems and having fun. What if I told you that a two-decade-old title from them is currently dominating Steam Charts over the likes of Destiny 2? You may be looking at me like I’m the G-Man, and frankly, I don’t blame you, but this just goes to show that Valve has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to making games that stand the test of time. I expected nothing less from the mastermind, Gabe Newell. More players are playing Team Fortress 2 than Destiny 2 right now According to Steam Charts, over 42,000 players are playing Team Fortress 2, while Destiny 2 has just over 16,000 concurrent players at the time of writing. Of course, these numbers will update every second, but it’s still mind-blowing to see a 2007 game consistently charting Steam’s top 20 while Destiny 2, a comparatively recent game, is falling behind. While Valve’s guarded kitchens refuse to present a new dish, players are still delving into their leftovers. Although Team Fortress 2’s rumored transition to the Source 2 Engine could be an answer to why players are suddenly swarming the title. But it’s probably loyalty having a hand in it. All of Valve’s titles, be it Counter-Strike or Half-Life have always had a loyal following, and the case isn’t different for Team Fortress 2 as players are not only playing it 18 years after release, but the community is also creating new game modes for the title through Steam Workshop to keep the experience fresh. This commitment to preserve the game in more ways than one from the community is nothing short of heartwarming, and this continued support from fans should at least be noticed by Valve itself. I’m not saying they should start making Team Fortress 3, but a little acknowledgement goes a long way. If the whispers of Team Fortress 2 porting to Source 2 have any credibility, not only would it solve all the game’s persistent issues, but it would also mean Valve heading back to its prime 2000s era again. And you know what that means. Half-Life could be making its grand return soon Will Gordon Freeman don the HEV suit once again? | Image Credit: Valve I believe in miracles, but if you told me a few years back that a third Half-Life game, that’s not a VR title, is in development, I would’ve laughed in your face. But no one’s laughing now, as dataminers and leakers suggest that a playable build of Half-Life 3 exists and the game could release as soon as this year. Imagine getting Half-Life 3 before Grand Theft Auto 6. What was previously accepted as a meme may soon become a reality as a project codenamed ‘HLX’ is seemingly in the works at Valve. But wait, there’s more, and Team Fortress fans, this one’s for you. According to dataminers like Tyler McVicker, Valve is also developing something codenamed “Tf“, which could be a new Team Fortress title. Now it could very well be just a string of codes, but who’s to say Valve isn’t at least considering a return to the world of Team Fortress? Look at the active player count, the loyal community, and the passion from fans to keep Team Fortress 2 alive. Valve would be dumb not to capitalise on this resurgence. If the stars align and we somehow get new Half-Life and Team Fortress titles, who knows? Maybe we’ll see an Orange Box sequel too in our lifetime. So, what do you think about Team Fortress 2 having more players than Destiny 2 on Steam? Should Valve revive the franchise, or should they focus on their upcoming multiplayer title, Deadlock? 25. These international ETFs are beating the S&P 500. How to add exposure These international ETFs are beating the S&P 500. How to add exposure As markets grapple with President Donald Trump’s evolving tariff policy, returns outside of the U.S. are looking especially attractive. Several region-specific exchange-traded funds are seeing a strong 2025, far outperforming the S & P 500 which is only marginally positive this year. Consider that the iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI) and the iShares Europe ETF (IEV) are scoring 2025 returns of 15.8% and 20.8%, respectively. The iShares MSCI Mexico ETF (EWW) and its ********* counterpart (EWC) are also toting double-digit returns this year. This disparity in performance has unfolded as Trump’s trade policy sows uncertainty for investors, companies and the economy, and is driving down the value of the dollar. In the latest development, the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled Wednesday that the president overstepped his authority in issuing his “reciprocal” tariffs in April. .SPX FXI YTD mountain The S & P 500 versus the iShares China Large-Cap ETF in 2025 While the S & P 500 rose in relief on Thursday, gains were held in check as traders feared policy negotiations could now drag out even longer. But there’s at least one valuable lesson for investors amid all the confusion: It doesn’t hurt to add some international exposure to your portfolio. “U.S. companies have been the cream of the crop over the past decade or so, but conditions change,” said Callie Cox, chief market strategist at Ritholtz Wealth Management in Charlotte, N.C. “It’s a good challenge of the assumptions investors hold: The U.S.’s leadership isn’t always guaranteed, even though on paper it looks like we should be leading against other major regions,” she added. That said, investors should proceed carefully as they ramp up global exposure. Accidental concentrations U.S. investors already have an inherent home bias, Cox said – and that’s only been exacerbated by the runaway appreciation seen in the likes of tech juggernauts like Nvidia in 2023 and 2024. The downside, however, is that just as those Big Tech positions become too large as shares surge, investors’ concentration in U.S. exposure can also become outsized. Financial advisors then must handle the uncomfortable task of getting those investors to diversify away from some of those positions. “We’ve always felt clients need to have a globally diversified portfolio,” said Rafia Hasan, CFP and chief investment officer of Perigon Wealth Management in Chicago. “It’s been a tough conversation to have over the past 15 years where, even over the long term, the U.S. was outperforming international markets.” The tariff-driven shakeup in the U.S. market was enough to get investors asking about adding international exposure, though, she added. “This economic narrative around the U.S. and the economy – the sentiment had gotten pretty negative,” Hasan said. “Now some of that has somewhat dissipated, we will continue to hold that international exposure.” Diversification perks While Big Tech has driven returns in the U.S., other industries tend to dominate in international markets. “The biggest sector in developed markets is banks,” said Cox. “A dominant tech sector isn’t a thing in Europe for many reasons. Sometimes those more value-based sectors in the European Union can step in and help.” International exposure can also offer currency diversification benefits. “In theory what should happen is if you have higher inflation in the U.S., the dollar weakens a bit, and having international investments could help offset that,” said Roger Aliaga-Diaz, Vanguard’s global head of portfolio construction and chief economist for the Americas. How much exposure you’ll need to make a difference in your portfolio will depend on your individual circumstances. “If you take some of our portfolios, even in target-date funds, we typically have 60/40 U.S. and non-U.S. exposure,” Aliaga-Diaz said, noting that this split applies to the equity sleeve. Investors who have more than 50% of their allocation toward international names run the risk of giving up the diversification of the U.S. market, he noted. But go beyond 70% exposure in U.S. names, and you run the risk of chasing performance, he added. Hasan of Perigon Wealth said that global market cap breaks down along the lines of 65% U.S. and 35% international. “That is a good starting point to think of how much to have in international,” she said. “For the U.S. investor, it makes sense to have some home bias relative to the global market.” Think broad exposure rather than picking regions Avoid trying to read the tea leaves on which specific nations and international companies may emerge as winners as trade policy evolves. Instead, consider adding a large, broad diversified ETF to your roster. Broad international ETFs with gold ratings from Morningstar include the Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-U.S. ETF (VEU) and the iShares Core MSCI Total International Stock ETF (IXUS) . Both are sporting year-to-date returns of nearly 14%. “There are still too many unannounced policies, and this is where the time is more for diversification, rather than trying to guess the winners and losers,” Aliaga-Diaz said.
