  1. Joe Manganiello Designed HeroQuest Board Game’s Latest Quest Pack Joe Manganiello Designed HeroQuest Board Game’s Latest Quest Pack The classic dungeon-crawling fantasy board game HeroQuest is getting a new expansion on August 1. HeroQuest has received many expansions over its 35-plus year history, but The Crypt of Perpetual Darkness Quest Pack has a unique hook: It was written and designed by massive tabletop RPG fan and actor Joe Manganiello (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Magic Mike, True Blood). This expansion was previously exclusive to crowdfunding backers for HeroQuest’s relaunch, but soon all players will be able to embark on quests created by Manganiello. You can preorder Joe Manganiello’s The Crypt of Perpetual Darkness Quest Pack at Amazon for $35. While Amazon currently lists the release date as August 1, your local game store might have copies starting July 15. To play the expansion, you will either need a copy of HeroQuest Game System or HeroQuest: First Light. $35 | Releases August 1 This premium version of The Crypt of Perpetual Darkness includes 10 pre-made quests created by Manganiello. According to the expansion’s official description, the journey sends player into a deep underground lair in search of a hidden crypt said to contain a powerful artifact. The box includes the full 10-quest campaign, plus a new ****** Dragon miniature and other additional gameplay materials to use while playing through the adventure. Everything in the quest pack features stylish new art and graphic design to match the atmosphere of the new dungeon-crawling storyline. Here’s a look at everything included: Questbook with 10 pre-made quests from Joe Manganiello 1 metallic ****** Dragon miniature 8 ****** dice 1 pad of character sheets 20 foil-embellished game cards 2 cardboard tile sheets Like with other HeroQuest expansions, you can also use these pieces to create your own custom quests and dungeons beyond the campaign included in the box. HeroQuest: The Crypt of Perpetual Darkness Quest Pack Gallery For those who have never player HeroQuest before, the game is essentially a streamlined tabletop RPG packaged into a boardgame format designed for two to five players, with one player controlling the various evil bosses and their minions, while the rest control one of several pre-made heroes like the Barbarian, Wizard, Dwarf, or Elf who explore dungeons and complete quests. This makes for a fast-paced game focused on combat and exploration that’s easy to set up and learn, but still offers much of the customization, continuity, and replayability of pen-and-paper RPGs. The game originally launched in 1989 and was out of print for several years until it returned with the HeroQuest Game System (2nd Edition), thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign. You can pick up a copy for $91.60 at Amazon, which is very close to the lowest price this year. Though the retailer briefly sold it for under $50 in early 2024, the price has trended up ever since–it hasn’t dropped below $85 since ****** Friday. The price has bounced between $90 and $110 throughout 2025 (so far). HeroQuest’s MSRP is $135. There is a cheaper path to accessing the new expansion. Earlier this year, Avalon Hill released HeroQuest: First Light, which is a smaller, standalone expansion that includes everything you need to play–albeit with fewer quests, heroes, monsters, and dungeon pieces– for just $50. While both HeroQuest Game System and First Light come with everything you need to play–including rules for creating your own custom adventures–there are also numerous other official expansions like the upcoming Crypt of Perpetual Darkness that add new pre-made quests, new playable heroes, bosses, dungeon tiles, and more. 2. Saharan dust plume heading for Florida: Here’s what to know Saharan dust plume heading for Florida: Here’s what to know TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A massive plume of dust is drifting across the Atlantic and heading for Florida. This has the benefit of causing gorgeous sunsets and tamping down tropical development, but it also carries health risk for some. NOAA predicts above average 2025 hurricane season: Here’s how many storms we could see On Tuesday, the National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico reported hazy skies and conditions that could aggravate allergies and cause issues for sensitive groups. What is Saharan dust? The Saharan Air Layer, commonly referred to as Saharan dust, results from ripples in the atmosphere that loft large amounts of sand and dust from the African desert into the air, according to NOAA. The blanket of dry air and strong winds travels thousands of miles across the Atlantic, creating a less favorable environment for tropical cyclones to form. That’s good news for us as the projected “above-average” hurricane season is just days away. Saharan dust is common this time of year. The plumes typically begin in mid-June and run through mid-August, peaking somewhere in the middle. The plumes of dust seem to rapidly subside after mid-August, which is also when we begin to see an uptick in tropical activity, according to NOAA. The dust plume blocks some sunlight from reaching the ocean, which cools it down a bit. The dry air also keeps potential tropical systems from getting the moisture they need to develop. Will we see ‘Saharan dust sunsets’? Saharan dust interacts with sunlight to create beautiful sunrises and sunsets. However, thicker plumes can partially block out the light. Thicker plumes of dust can lead to hazy skies. A layer of dust may appear as it falls to the surface. 5. Doctors Are Revealing Their Wildest “You Shouldn’t Be Alive” Moments From The ER, And I’m Spooked Doctors Are Revealing Their Wildest “You Shouldn’t Be Alive” Moments From The ER, And I’m Spooked Warning: This post contains mentions of suicide and graphic medical details. We recently asked medical professionals of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us the wildest things they’ve witnessed a patient survive, and they revealed unbelievable ER moments that genuinely made them think, “How are you alive?!” Here are the most shocking stories: Note: Some responses were pulled from this Reddit thread by u/Jonah_Boy_03. 1.”We were the closest hospital, so they brought a civilian in (I’m a former Air Force medic). His safety gear failed, and he fell 128 feet from a communications tower. It had rained the night before, and he fell into a marshy puddle of high grass, flat on his back, with a concussion and whiplash. He had no broken bones, but the bruises that covered his body from head to heel were something to behold.” “He spent a week in the hospital before he could move comfortably.” —prpslydistracted JazzIRT / Getty Images 2.”We had a patient come in after mowing the lawn. The patient said something was kicked up by the lawn mower and hit him in the head. Didn’t think much of it and finished cutting the grass. A few hours later, he still had a headache, so he came to the ER. We CAT-scanned his head, and there is an entire nail embedded in his brain.” “He had the tiniest abrasion to his forehead and no neuro deficits. He had no idea. Everyone was absolutely dumbfounded.” —luv_pup88 3.”We once received a patient who was bitten by a rattlesnake, TWICE. He only managed to get to the emergency ward three hours after being bitten. Then, to make things worse, we only managed to get the correct antivenom flown in one hour after his arrival. He now works as an admin clerk at our hospital and is as healthy as ever.” —TBC-**** 4.”I had a patient who was already blind from diabetes, lost some toes, and part of a foot. I checked the blood sugar, and it was 45 (this is Canada, so your normal range is 4 to 7); I rechecked it: 45. This patient had no symptoms of hyperglycemia. He just took his insulin pen, cranked it, and self-injected (home care). I had to wait a bit to see what would happen, but eventually we left, and he ended up fine.” “Most home glucometers don’t go past 30. I was with my trainer nurse, who was dumbfounded.” —mattttherman 5.”Had a patient with an internal temp of 75 degrees Fahrenheit. He was drowsy, but fully alert and oriented. He was found on a river embankment in the middle of winter. He had been lying there overnight before a dog walker found him. We didn’t believe the equipment when it told us 75 degrees, so we repeated with a rectal thermometer, a different rectal thermometer, and a rectal probe attached to the bedside and Medi-Therm system. They were all consistent, and after several hours of heating measures, we got their internal temp up to 90 degrees before they went to ICU.” —jujapee Sergey Alimov / Getty Images 6.”Another ‘how the f*ck are you not dead’ patient was a person who had a blood sugar of 1,800. They weren’t in a coma. It was just a woman who walked in to complain about abdominal pain.” —jujapee 7.”The guy with the crossbow bolt lodged in his head. He was initially described as having an arrow in his head, which it definitely looked like on first glance. But the angle of entry into his head made no sense. It entered under his chin and exited from the top of his head. That’s when one of the nurses surmised that he would have to be lying on the ground to have been hit with the arrow at this angle.” “So, it must have been self-inflicted from a crossbow that the guy aimed at his chin. The fly-through on the CT was shocking; it was this perfect circle hole migrating up his head. After neurosurgery removed it, this guy walked out of the post-surgical ICU with no residual effects. And he admitted it was a suicide attempt. Luckily, the bolt only had a target point, not a hunting broadhead that would have carved up his brain.” —Anonymous, 44, Alabama 8.”I was an intern working in a Grand Rapids ER in 1978 when a man came in, complaining of a headache that developed halfway through a local marathon. I quickly identified the cause of his headache as a .22-calibre bullet lodged in the top of his skull. He finished the marathon in three hours and nine minutes.” “It was a national story. He was called the Bullet Man.” —Anonymous, 73, Oregon 9.”My mom was a critical care nurse and said the freakiest thing she ever went through was having a 15-minute conversation with a little old lady who had no pulse. As I recall, she said the little old lady passed mid-sentence. Just stopped.” —dscottj Dragos Condrea / Getty Images 10.”Aside from hospice patients who have hung on for a surprisingly long time, I have a few that stick out in my mind. There was a patient in third-degree heart block with a pulse of 30 at best. Sitting up and talking like nothing was wrong. I was a new nurse at the time, and that freaked me out. Basically, the electrical system in the heart was malfunctioning, and this person was flirting with a massive cardiac event.” —CertainlyNotYourWife 11.”There was a lady with a hemoglobin of 4. It should be at least 12. She was whiter than the bed sheets. It was really unsettling to see a living human that color.” —CertainlyNotYourWife 12.”I was a surgery resident on nights. Critical trauma page came in. I rushed down to the trauma bay in the ER, and a man in his 20s came in with a gunshot wound to the head. Specifically, the guy was running from the cops, and instead of going to jail, he put the gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. The exit wound was perfectly in the middle of the top of his head.” “As we were intubating him, his brain was getting suctioned out. I called neurosurgery for help, and they said, ‘Nothing to do; he’ll be dead soon.’ The guy left a month later and waved goodbye to me.“ —Anonymous 13.”While I was a student, I did a clinical placement at a major trauma hospital where they kept a collection of X-rays you never usually see because the injury would typically kill the patient instantly. The most interesting one was a smashed pelvis from a jockey in a horse racing accident. That kind of injury would usually also result in rupture of femoral arteries, which means you bleed to death very quickly, but somehow, this guy survived and made it to the hospital and lived long enough to get X-rayed. I don’t know if he recovered, though.” —cfniva andresr / Getty Images 14.”Not me, but my mom was an ER nurse right after college. A family got in a car ******, and there weren’t any serious injuries; they were just taken to the ER to be assessed. They had a baby, and my mom asked them about its health, etc. When asked what the baby was being fed, the mom said, ‘Juice.’ Just juice. She had heard that at 6 months, you can start feeding the baby juice. Not realizing it was juice, in addition to baby food or milk. This woman had been feeding her baby ONLY JUICE for months.” “This was something someone said to my mom in the mid-’90s. I have zero idea of what happened to those people.” —acc144 15.”Back in my surgical days, I was a resident on my trauma rotation. A really nice young guy comes in via EMS. He’d been working on a factory site doing work high up on a tower (think 80 to 100 feet, kind of deal). He was climbing his way down, about halfway, when he heard commotion overhead and someone shouting, ‘Watch out!’ He’s on the ladder, so he can’t do much but bow his head to cover it. Feels something strike the back of his neck. Manages to stay calm, reaches around, and realizes a large piece of metal is embedded in him. His medic training kicks in, he calmly climbs down the rest of the ladder, sits down, and asks someone to call an ambulance.” “Wish I could upload the photos I have. It’s a wrench 36 centimeters/14 inches long, but the non-wrench end is a pointed pick axe type tool — and that’s what’s embedded in him. Nestled nicely against C3/C4 (middle of the neck). All we can get are X-rays — too much metal artifact for a decent CT. The rock star of a spinal surgeon just decides to yeet it out. Gave a few stitches, soft collar for a week, and the guy’s back to normal.” —NeurochickB 16.”I’m a sleep tech, and I had a middle-aged patient whose oxygen fell all the way down to the 40s and was having central apneas for over a minute… He spent more time not breathing while asleep. No wonder he complains he feels dead every single day. I couldn’t believe it, so I tried a bunch of other oximeters and different hands/fingers, and they were all incredibly low while he was asleep.” “And I’ve seen worse since then. I recently had a patient not breathe for two minutes, take a breath or two, and not breathe again, with their oxygen dropping to 30-something percent. That was another emergency split to CPAP.” —zeromutt And finally… 17.”A young woman, in her 30s, had a stroke. She clotted off the basilar artery, the big artery in the base of the brain that supplies all of the ‘primitive’ functions, like breathing and awareness. I found out about her a day after the event. This, by the book, is a hopeless case. She was literally already dead. But, because she was young, they prevailed upon me to do something. I poked a catheter (a long, skinny plastic tube) into her groin artery, then snaked it up to the blocked artery in the base of her brain. I infused a clot-busting drug into the artery for about 12 hours (tPA, tissue plasminogen activator). I rechecked, and the clot was gone. She woke up the next day. After a month, she walked out of the hospital.” “She sent me a nice card a month or so later. It bothered me that her handwriting was better than mine, even after her stroke, but I was pretty happy.” —Michigander_from_Oz Note: Some responses have been edited for length and/or clarity. WOW. Man jailed after exotic snakes, turtles, iguanas found in foul-smelling package marked as ‘toys’ during border search Man jailed after exotic snakes, turtles, iguanas found in foul-smelling package marked as ‘toys’ during border search A man’s attempt to import a series of exotic animals into Australia – some of which died during the ill-fated voyage – has been exposed after the plot was foiled by border force officials. Queensland man Jesse Sayeg was this week handed a nine-month jail term after pleading guilty in Caloundra Magistrates Court to three offences related to the ******** importation of live exotic animals. A DAFF veterinarian opened the package to discover three snakes, six iguanas, three soft shell turtles and three tarantulas stuffed into calico drawstring bags. Many of the animals were dead. The discovery launched a two-year, multi-agency investigation dubbed Operation Cascade, which uncovered a broader criminal network spanning three *********** states including Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. For most people, a home invasion is one of the scariest experiences imaginable. However, for one homeowner in Colorado, it turned into one of the most unforgettable moments of her life. Footage from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shows what happened when the wrong kind of cat wandered into Amy Shelly’s home in Ken Caryl. She had left her back door open on the evening of May 21, thinking that her **** cat, Meatball, would come back indoors, but when she heard a ****** downstairs, she found an angry bobcat instead. The wild cat made itself comfortable behind Amy’s TV, but the incident only got more bizarre once police arrived. The way they tried to coax the cat back outside was absolutely priceless! LOL, these officers are having too much fun with this! After a stressful day of work, this is precisely the type of call most officers would love to have. It’s like getting paid to play with an animal! “The human instinct to go ‘here kitty kitty’ with a bobcat that could tear their throat out will never not amaze me,” commenter Ekko joked. They wouldn’t be saying that if the cat actually did come to them! Related: Angry Bobcat Kitten Who Stole a Blanket Sounds Like Anything but a Cat As other viewers pointed out, the most effective way to corral a loose cat tends to be simpler than you may think. Just grab a box! In the end, however, they didn’t even need to use this trick; the unbothered bobcat simply walked out the back door on its own accord a few hours later. This “very aggressive cat distribution system” left Amy and the officers who helped her with an unforgettable memory, but it’s also a great reminder not to leave doors open unattended, especially if you live in a rural area. You never know who may wander inside! Fortunately, the bobcat didn’t cause any damage or hurt anyone (or itself) during the adventure. 11. ‘Recession indicator’: Grim call after Aussies turn their back on Aldi ski ***** ‘Recession indicator’: Grim call after Aussies turn their back on Aldi ski ***** In what has been dubbed the latest recession indicator, a hugely popular shopping day has gone unsold, despite offering huge discounts on a number of products. Aldi’s iconic annual ski gear ***** was met with chaotic and crowded scenes, with customers lined up out the door before the supermarket chain even opened its doors. Inside, shoppers were seen urgently rifling through piles of ski jackets searching for their sizes. But in the weeks that followed, interest declined. Popular TikToker Bec Brewin highlighted that despite the buzz around Aldi’s much loved *****, none of the items were actually sold out. Camera IconAldi’s popular ski ***** was not a sellout this year, which one TikTokker has claimed is ‘the latest recession’ indicator. NewsWire / Monique Harmer Credit: News Corp Australia “Do you remember when the ski gear at Aldi used to sell out?,” she said. “Well apparently this is the latest recession indicator because none of this has sold out and it’s been there for a while.” “I can’t afford to go skiing and I certainly can’t afford knee surgery after I fall over what would be the easiest run on the mountain.” Aldi has been contacted for comment. AMP economist My Bui told NewsWire the situation is consistent with the broader issues facing the *********** economy. “This is playing out in Macroeconomic data. “I looked at the NAB Business Sentiment Survey …. it shows conditions have still been deteriorating even when consumer confidence has been improving,” she said. Ms Bui’s comments come after Australia’s longest hit to living standards since the Second World War officially ended in March 2025, with households getting out of their per capita recession. Mortgage holders might be on average $200 better off a month but businesses say they are still feeling the brunt of cost-of-living pressures. But that doesn’t mean households are spending, with Q1 retail sales figures released by the ABS showing retail volumes on a per capita basis fell 0.4 per cent after growth in the previous two quarters. Robert Ewing, ABS head of business statistics, said “Retail sales volumes were flat this quarter and reflected subdued spending. This comes after sustained promotional activity boosted discretionary spending in late 2024.” Ms Bui agreed saying unlike the post covid years, businesses have less power to increase prices and have turned to promotions in order to clear stock. “Retailers have less pricing power compared with before,” She said. “Businesses had the power to raise prices. Right now, if you look at input costs and even when these costs increase, businesses do not feel they can raise their prices.” “When you look at retail sales every single month there are more promotions than usual, but that is not a sign of strengthening as it is only driven by promotions, so it’s actually a sign of weakness. Camera IconALDI ski ***** at Chatswood. NewsWire / Monique Harmer Credit: News Corp AustraliaCamera IconThe store was crowded when doors opened, but interest has since declined. On Monday, May 26, a shark, estimated to be 20 feet long, was spotted swimming in Great Salt Pond off of Block Island, according to a video from Jen Seebeck who was enjoying dinner at Dead Eye ***** when she spotted the massive creature in the pond. In the video, two people are on a speedboat jetting through the pond as a shark slowly swims near them. “There’s a shark in the pond!” a person says in the background of the video, which was later shared with the Atlantic Shark Institute. “Clearly a very large shark and reminiscent of a scene from Jaws on this 50th anniversary of the film,” the Atlantic Shark Institute said about the clip in its social media post. The basking shark is the second-largest fish species after the whale shark. The animals subsist on tiny plankton and are commonly spotted in southern New England waters in late spring, according to the New England Aquarium. Additionally, basking sharks are often mistaken for great white sharks, but the latter have pointed dorsal fins, while basking sharks have rounded fins. Dodd said the shark likely accidentally entered the pond and has since left the area. “They are harmless filter-feeders, but that wouldn’t matter much if you were in the water when one came cruising by!” Dodd told CBS. “It is the first shark that has entered the pond this season, but likely not the last!” Read the original article on People Source link #20Foot #Shark #Spotted #Lurking #Rhode #Island #Pond #Shocked #Waterside #Diners Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  14. Oilers make Stanley Cup Final again after dominant win Oilers make Stanley Cup Final again after dominant win Connor McDavid and Edmonton are heading to the Stanley Cup final after wrapping up the Western Conference final in Game 5 against Dallas. The Oilers beat the Stars 6-3 on Thursday to make their second successive Stanley Cup Final. McDavid had a breakaway goal and an assist, while 40-year-old Corey Perry scored again as the Oilers earned a rematch against defending Stanley Cup champion Florida after a seven-game series last June. Game 1 is Wednesday night in Edmonton. Edmonton scored on their first two shots, and jumped ahead 3-0 in the first 8:07 on way to eliminating the Stars in the West final for the second year in a row, this time in one less game. Mattias Janmark, Jeff Skinner, Evander Kane and Kasperi Kapanen also had goals for Edmonton, the last being an empty-netter in the closing seconds. Leon Draisaitl and Jake Walman each had two assists. Jason Robertson scored twice and Roope Hintz had a goal for the Stars, who ended their season in the West final for the third year in a row. Wyatt Johnston and Thomas Harley each had two assists. Dallas were down 3-2 when Harley had a one-timer blocked by Mattias Ekholm, the Oilers defenceman playing for the first time this postseason. Oilers captain McDavid gathered the long ricochet well past centre ice and beat goalie Casey DeSmith with 5:32 left in the second *******. DeSmith had taken over in net after starting goaltender Jake Oettinger was pulled following Janmark’s goal that made it 2-0 only 7:09 into the game. Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner had 14 saves. DeSmith, who hadn’t played since April 26 in Game 1 of the first round against Colorado, stopped 17 of 20 shots. Perry scored on a power play, assisted by McDavid and Draisaitl, only 2:31 in the game. His seven goals are the most by any player age 39 or older in a single postseason, and the 2007 Stanley Cup champion with Anaheim when he was 22 is now going to his fifth Final in the past six seasons. That was McDavid’s 100th assist in 90 playoff games, the second-fastest player in NHL history to reach that mark. Wayne Gretzky had 100 assists in his first 70 playoff games, and no other player has reached the mark in fewer than 125 games. Robertson scored a minute into the third ******* to get the Stars within a goal again. Kane then scored on a shot that went off the skate of Dallas defenceman Esa Lindell and past DeSmith. Jeff Skinner, the 33-year-old forward who has played 1,078 regular-season games over 15 years with three teams, scored his first career postseason goal. His playoff debut was in the first-round opener against Los Angeles on April 21, but he didn’t play again until Thursday when the Oilers were without injured forwards Zach Hyman and Connor Brown. 15. Window World responds in wrongful death lawsuit Window World responds in wrongful death lawsuit YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Window World has filed a response in a wrongful death lawsuit following a home explosion in Ellsworth Township that killed four people. Read next: Ohio AG warns customers following cement layer lawsuit The lawsuit filed by administrators for the estates of the deceased alleged that workers putting siding on the home damaged propane gas lines but failed to recognize they had damaged those lines, leading to the explosion. The lawsuit filed earlier this year against Window World alleged that Joann and Jeffrey Kocanyar, the owner of the home at 8521 Huxley Rd, hired Window World to replace the siding on their home and that workers affiliated with the company had been working at the house on Oct. 4, 2024, the day before the explosion. Several neighbors described hearing “very loud,” “********,” and “hammering” coming from the home before it was discovered that a water pipe in the basement had broken around 4 p.m., causing a leak in the basement, the lawsuit contends. Window World’s response was filed Tuesday in Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas, denying those allegations and stating that the cause of the damages remains undetermined, and other individuals and/or companies could have contributed to the damages and injuries alleged. The State Fire Marshal concluded its investigation into the explosion earlier this year. That investigation did not pinpoint an exact cause of the explosion but indicated that the probable cause was a propane leak. The Fire Marshal’s report did note that crews with Window World had been installing vinyl siding on the home and had begun preparation work the day before the explosion. They received a report that one of the workers had broken a water pipe in the basement and that the Kocanyars were getting materials to repair the pipe. The explosion occurred around 7:20 a.m. the next day, and investigators had trouble pinpointing the source of the explosion due to the extensive damage to the home and lack of burn patterns. Investigators did find a propane tank behind the garage with lines leading to the basement and to a gas fireplace on the south side of the home. Window World’s response acknowledges that Window World contracted with various individuals for certain work, including subcontracting services for which it had no active participation. Window World is denying liability as it “had no active participation in the work performed” and “did not directly control the work to be performed.” The response also states, “the injuries and damages alleged by Plaintiffs were caused by intervening and/or superseding actions, for which this answering Defendant has no legal liability.” Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. 16. What the market is getting wrong about the court blocking Trump’s tariffs What the market is getting wrong about the court blocking Trump’s tariffs Wall Street’s excitement after the latest trade development may be short lived. Stock futures rallied overnight after a U.S. federal trade court struck down President Donald Trump’s so-called reciprocal tariffs. Safe-haven gold fell to a one-week low on the news, as traders around the world moved into riskier assets. But while the court ruling halts levies that would pressure corporate profit margins and drive consumer prices higher, it also adds another layer of complexity at a time when investors are trying to look past trade headwinds. “The court injunction … poses a double-edged sword for [rest of world] negotiators, who may start to adopt Beijing’s longstanding philosophy that the U.S. is a ‘paper tiger’ – with the risk of prolonging trade war uncertainty instead of offering up new concessions,” wrote Grace Fan, global policy analyst at TS Lombard. @DJ.1 1D mountain Dow futures intraday Trump also has other paths to push through tariffs, including sectoral levies . Goldman Sachs pointed out the president an implement a tariff of up to 15% under Section 122 of the 1974 Trade Act as well. What’s more, the administration is expected to appeal the ruling. “The tariff drama isn’t over – Trump has other legal avenues to pursue an aggressive tariff agenda, and investors expect he will utilize them,” wrote Adam Crisafulli of Vital Knowledge. The market may already be quickly coming around to Crisafulli’s way of thinking. About an hour into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was flat, while the S & P 500 and Nasdaq were off their highs as well. Dow futures had surged over 500 points over nights. Bond yields were lower on the day, reversing an earlier bounce, and gold recovered from its overnight lows. “The only thing this court ruling did was extend the uncertainty of how this ends. All of the ‘to be annouced’ trade deals likely are now on ice and, if Trump wins on appeal, he’ll hit harder and faster in round two,” Jamie Cox of LPL Financial told CNBC’s Brian Evans in an email. “Given how far along things were and seemingly causing less heartburn than feared, this ruling may be effective in restraining the executive, but not accomplish much otherwise.” Source link #market #wrong #court #blocking #Trumps #tariffs Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  18. Hundreds gather to mourn John Versace, plumber killed in suspected mistaken identity shooting in Sydney Hundreds gather to mourn John Versace, plumber killed in suspected mistaken identity shooting in Sydney Hundreds have gathered at a church in Punchbowl in Sydney’s South West to pay their respects to John Versace, a young plumber shot dead on the doorstep of his parents’ home in Sydney. The 23-year-old was killed at his family’s Condell Park home on May 20, and many questions about his death remain unanswered. As reported by The Daily Telegraph, mourners filled the church on Friday, with many forced to stand in the courtyard while prayer hymns in English and Arabic played over loudspeakers before Mr Versace’s hearse arrived. A procession of motorbikes, most riders dressed in white, could be heard from several streets away as they stopped outside the church entrance. In a eulogy, a man remembered Mr Versace as “affectionate, protective and full of love,” saying he was “raised with love” and good values. The man described him as “cheeky,” but deeply devoted to his family. “(He) never walked past his mum without kissing and hugging her,” he said over the loudspeaker. Police say Mr Versace, who worked for his father’s plumbing business, had no criminal links and only a minor traffic offence on his record. Moments after the shooting, his parents and older sisters rushed to his side, screaming for help. Mr Versace had just reversed his ute into the driveway of his Dalton Ave home shortly before 10.30pm when a masked gunman approached, carrying a small handgun. Superintendent Rodney Hart described the ambush as a “brutal and violent execution style *******”. “At very close proximity to the victim, he (the gunman) opened fire, we believe fired up to 10 bullets at the victim,” he said. “We believe that the victim suffered at least four gunshot wounds. He slumped to the ground out the front of his home.” Mr Versace died at the scene despite efforts by paramedics to save him. 19. Stocks slip, dollar sags as Trump tariffs remain after latest courtroom twist Stocks slip, dollar sags as Trump tariffs remain after latest courtroom twist By Kevin Buckland TOKYO (Reuters) – Stocks slipped in Asia on Friday and the U.S. dollar drooped with Treasury yields as investors digested an appeals court kept President Donald Trump‘s tariffs in effect, a day after markets rallied on a separate ruling blocking most of them. Japan’s Nikkei saw the most pronounced selling, after experiencing the most pronounced buying on Thursday, with moves in the exporter-heavy index exacerbated by the ebb and flow in demand for the safe-haven yen. The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington temporarily reinstated Trump’s duties on Thursday while it considers the government’s appeal. On Wednesday, a little-known trade court had unanimously ruled Trump overstepped his authority, and tariffs were the jurisdiction of Congress not the president. Either way, senior Trump administration officials said they were undeterred and expected either to prevail on appeal or to employ other powers to ensure the tariffs remain. The Nikkei dropped 1.7% in the Asian morning, putting it basically back at Wednesday’s closing level. The yen strengthened about 2% from its low on Thursday to last change hands at around 143.48 per dollar. A stronger yen reduces the value of overseas revenues. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng sank 1.4% and mainland China’s blue chip index eased 0.3% in early trading. South Korea’s KOSPI fell 0.5%. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was off 0.4%. “Trump’s trade agenda remains alive and kicking, with the legal battle adding yet another layer of uncertainty,” said Rodrigo Catril, senior FX strategist at National Australia Bank. “The only thing that looks more certain is more uncertainty,” which will lead to additional delays in investment decisions and hiring, he said. U.S. S&P 500 futures retreated 0.2%. The cash index rose 0.4% overnight, but that was largely the effect of resilient Nvidia financial results from after the market close on Wednesday, to which Asian shares already had a chance to react. Pan-European STOXX 50 futures edged 0.1% lower. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield was steady at 4.42% on Friday, following a 5.5 basis point slide on Thursday. Safe-haven gold was little changed at $3,311 per ounce, following a 0.8% advance in the previous session. Risk-sensitive bitcoin slipped to a 10-day low of $104,714.35. Both Brent and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude eased 0.3% early on Friday, to $63.97 and $60.75 per barrel, respectively. Despite the uncertainty injected by the courtroom drama, the Trump administration said negotiations with top trading partners continue unabated. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted during an interview with Fox News that he is scheduled to have talks with a high-level Japanese delegation later on Friday in Washington. Trump had already paused his “Liberation Day” tariff rates on most trade partners for 90 days to July 9 and set a baseline rate of 10% in the meantime in order to give time for some of them to hammer out deals. So far though, apart from a broad agreement with Britain, deals remain elusive. Bessent said in the interview with Fox News that talks with China are “a bit stalled,” and may need the direct involvement of Trump and ******** President Xi Jinping to get across the finish line. Man jailed after exotic animal trafficking gang exposed Man jailed after exotic animal trafficking gang exposed Noticing a strange smell, officials opened a package from overseas to discover snakes, iguanas, turtles and tarantulas – many of them dead. Two years later, a sweeping investigation into an ******** wildlife trafficking ring has led to a Queensland man being sentenced to jail. Jesse Sayeg pleaded guilty to three offences related to smuggling exotic animals into Australia in Caloundra Magistrates Court this week. It came after a multi-year probe spanning three states that exposed an ******** exotic wildlife trafficking gang, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) said. Officials were first tipped off when *********** Border Force officers noticed the smell coming from a package sent from the Philippines in March 2023. They tipped off the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry which X-rayed the parcel, revealing its exotic contents. Overall 15 reptiles and spiders were discovered in drawstring calico fabric bags – six iguanas along with three snakes, soft-shell turtles and tarantulas. The mostly dead wildlife were in a consignment under a false name and misdeclared as toys, the federal department said. The investigation into the trafficking gang that unfolded stretched across Queensland, Western Australia and Victoria, with search warrants uncovering many more animals. An additional two hog nose snakes, 45 tarantulas, two scorpions, an African hedgehog and an alligator snapping turtle were among those discovered as part of the probe. Sayeg was involved in the trafficking ring, admitting to illegally importing live tortoises and turtles in Caloundra Magistrates Court. He was sentenced to nine months in prison. “The ******** wildlife trade is the world’s fourth-largest illicit transnational trade, after arms, drugs and human trafficking,” the department’s deputy secretary of biosecurity, operations and compliance Justine Saunders said. “DAFF, along with other government agencies, are united in their commitment to eradicate the illicit wildlife trade and will take vigorous and relentless action to seek out those responsible, bring them to justice and stop this global crime.” Ms Saunders said animals introduced to Australia via ******** trafficking created “unacceptable biosecurity risks”, and could be potentially devastating to agriculture, wildlife and even human health. “Any breach of Australia’s biosecurity laws is taken extremely seriously.” Individuals face a maximum of 10 years in prison and fines of up to $1.65 million or $8.25 million for a company, she said. 23. Report alleges Cherfilus-McCormick may have accepted campaign contributions ‘linked to an official action’ Report alleges Cherfilus-McCormick may have accepted campaign contributions ‘linked to an official action’ An official report outlining potential ethics violations by U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-Fla., said there was probable cause to believe that she “accepted campaign contributions linked to an official action.” If proven, the allegation contained in a document released Thursday by the House Ethics Committee could be a violation of House rules, standards of conduct and federal law. The Office of Congressional Conduct determined in May 2024 that the matter warranted review by the Congressional Ethics Committee, which said it has been reviewing the allegation for the last year. The official document provided no details, just a total of three sentences in two different places. It was one of five alleged violations. The board of the Office of Congressional Conduct recommended further review of three and dismissal of two. The document was released one year after the conduct office, which reviews allegations of misconduct against members, referred the case to the committee, which investigates and adjudicates alleged violations of House rules and related laws. In a joint statement accompanying the release of the referral, the Republican chair and top Democrat on the Ethics Committee said that “the mere fact of a continued investigation into these allegations does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred.” For the three violations it said warranted further investigation, the congressional conduct office said Cherfilus-McCormick “may have” taken actions that, if substantiated, mean “she may have violated House rules and standards of conduct.” For two of the allegations, it said violations may have violated federal law. Besides the allegation about “campaign contributions linked to an official action,” the office said she may have requested community project funding that would be directed to a for-profit entity. It also said her congressional office may have “made payments to an entity in violation of” the rules or “alternatively, that her campaign may have accepted and failed to report in-kind (campaign) contributions that may have exceeded applicable limits.” In each of the three allegations, the conduct office’s board voted 6-0 to recommend further review by the Ethics Committee. The board voted 5-1 to recommend dismissal of the allegation that she “may have dispensed favors or privileges to friends” in connection with official requests for community project funding. It voted 6-0 to recommend dismissal of an allegation that her campaign misrepresented the source of a campaign contribution or accepted a contribution made by one person in the name of another. In both dismissal recommendations, the board found there was “not substantial reason to believe” the allegations. In a statement provided by her communications director, Cherfilus-McCormick said, “The Committee on Ethics has not yet concluded its review of the allegations, and no decision has been made at this time. As outlined in the Committee’s public statement, the referral for further review does not imply that any violation has occurred. I fully respect the process and remain committed to cooperating with the Committee as it works to bring this inquiry to a close.” In 2023, the Ethics Committee received an earlier referral. A limited summary was released in 2024 — similar to the one put out Thursday. In January, 576 pages of materials were released. In the earlier case, which has not been publicly resolved, the Office of Congressional Conduct said there was “substantial reason to believe” four allegations including that she “made payments to a state political action committee in connection with her campaign and failed to report these payments as contributions to her campaign” and that her campaign campaign committee “accepted and failed to report contributions exceeding contribution limits.” Cherfilus-McCormick Cherfilus-McCormick was first elected in a January 2022 special election in the Broward-Palm Beach county 20th Congressional District. A Democrat, she was elected to a full term in November 2022. No Democratic primary challenger or Republican general election challenger came forward to run against Cherfilus-McCormick in 2024, making her the only one of Florida’s 28 members of Congress returned to office without facing a primary or general election. A young Democratic activist, Elijah Manley, who has run unsuccessfully for office before, is challenging Cherfilus-McCormick in the 2026 Democratic primary. “The people of Florida are sick and tired of political corruption, ethical scandals, and the legal maneuvers the wealthy and powerful use to escape accountability,” Manley said in a statement, adding that in his view the information released by the Ethics Committee shows the incumbent’s “inability to serve the people of Florida’s 20th District with honesty and transparency.” Ethics process Congressional ethics investigations move slowly, and the system is byzantine to outsiders. The Office of Congressional Conduct has its own staff and is governed by a bipartisan board of private citizens who aren’t members of Congress and don’t work for the federal government. Half the members are chosen by the House speaker and half by the ********* party leader. Currently there are only four members instead of the six members and four alternates. Another change: Until January, it was called the Office of Congressional Ethics. This year “conduct” was substituted for “ethics” in the name. The House Ethics Committee includes equal numbers of Republican and Democratic members, which is unusual. The majority party has a majority of spots on all other committees. The panel conducts its business behind closed doors and is circumspect about its activities. The joint statement Thursday from U.S. Rep. Michael Guest, a Mississippi Republican and committee chair, and U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier of California, the top Democrat on the panel, was the usual, brief format, totaling four paragraphs. “No other public comment will be made on this matter except in accordance with Committee rules,” Guest and DeSaulnier said. In cases — such as this one — in which the committee hasn’t finished its investigation within a year receiving a referral from the Office of Congressional Conduct, House rules require the release of the referral. The referral contains some details, but the supporting materials the committee gets at the same time, which can be voluminous, aren’t included. Two pages were released Thursday, but pages 3 to 17 were not. If there has been no resolution of the investigation and at least one year has passed, all the supporting documents are publicly released at the end of the two-year session of Congress. In this case, that would be January 2027. Currently the matter is in the hands of an investigative subcommittee of the Ethics Committee, which is still considering the earlier ethics referral. Lawsuit settled Separately, a lawsuit involving Cherfilus-McCormick’s former company, Trinity Health Care Services, has been settled. In December, the Florida Division of Emergency Management sued Trinity to recover what it said was $5.8 million in overpayments. Before she was elected to Congress, Cherfilus-McCormick was the CEO of the family-owned company. The case involved the company, not Cherfilus-McCormick. Her brother, Edwin Cherfilus, is vice president of operations, according to his LinkedIn page. In 2021, the emergency management agency hired Trinity to administer COVID-19 vaccinations and employ canvassers to sign people up to get vaccinated. In its lawsuit, the state said that on June 28, 2021, the emergency management division sent Trinity an “overpayment of $5,057,050.00” instead of the $50,578.50 it actually owed “due to a clerical error.” It later discovered “several” additional overpayments, totaling $5.78 million. The Leon County Circuit Clerk’s Office website shows the case is closed. The most recent filing, from an attorney representing the Division of Emergency Management, said there was “an executed settlement agreement in the matter,” and that both the state agency and Trinity Healthcare Services would each pay their own attorneys’ fees. Trinity did not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement, and it agreed to repay $5.62 million. Though the total repayment is almost as much as the state wanted, it is effectively much less because it is being repaid over many years without interest. Under the terms of the settlement Trinity agreed to pay $25,000 in April and $15,000 in May. Starting in 2026, the company agreed to repay $92,910.99 each quarter, which works out to $371,644 a year. The repayments last 15 years, which means the final payment would be made in the fourth quarter of 2040. _____ Source link #Report #alleges #CherfilusMcCormick #accepted #campaign #contributions #linked #official #action Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  25. Captain Harry Grant set to miss Melbourne Storm’s clash with Gold Coast after State of Origin workload Captain Harry Grant set to miss Melbourne Storm’s clash with Gold Coast after State of Origin workload Melbourne Storm could be without a couple of their Origin stars after coach Craig Bellamy revealed Harry Grant had returned home from Brisbane and was “doubtful” to fly back to the Gold Coast for Saturday’s game against the Titans. Grant, Cameron Munster, Xavier Coates and Trent Loiero all played on Wednesday night, while Stefano Utoikamanu was part of the NSW squad that took a 1-0 series lead with Bellamy part of the coaching crew. The Storm has traditionally played it safe during the Origin *******, but Bellamy hasn’t decided who will back up and who will be rested for the trip north. “I’m not quite sure yet,” he said. “A couple of them probably won’t but a couple probably will. “We just need to get through training today and then we’ll see how we go with the players here. “Harry came back (to Melbourne) but the rest of them stayed up there, so we’ll see how they’re going when we get up there.” Grant is the man most likely to miss out, with Bronson Garlick expected to take the captain’s place in the starting side if he’s ruled out. The Maroons hooker has played just one NRL match since round 6 due to a hamstring tear and it showed, as Grant struggled to make an impact on Wednesday night. He had just three runs, missed five tackles and gave away a penalty in an uncharacteristically off night, but Bellamy assured Storm fans that Grant’s fitness wasn’t a concern. “He hasn’t played much footy, but he’s OK physically,” he said. “Like the others, he’s disappointed with the result as you would be, but he seems OK this morning. “(I haven’t ruled him out) at the moment, but he’s probably doubtful, especially with the amount of footy that he hasn’t played. Scoring points hasn’t been an issue for Melbourne, but they’ve also leaked plenty of tries, which is a worry ahead of a tricky clash against a Titans side that loves to move the ball. “I’m not quite sure what to put it down to, but we’re obviously aware of it,” Bellamy said. “It’s not something that we’re too happy with, to be quite honest. “We probably need to be a little bit more consistent with our training and then we’ll be a little bit more consistent in the game.” Source link #Captain #Harry #Grant #set #Melbourne #Storms #clash #Gold #Coast #State #Origin #workload Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
