Channel 4 in the *** now has a dedicated app for Apple Vision Pro
The initial buzz for Apple’s mixed-reality headset has ***** down, but new apps and experiences are still arriving for consumers who plunked down $3,500. The *** broadcaster Channel 4 just dropped a dedicated streaming app for the headset, which lets users watch stuff in “ground-breaking cinema-style.”
Channel 4 is the first *** broadcaster to take this step. The app leverages the tech inside the headset to overlay streaming content on the real world, which allows for a “full-screen viewing experience” of stuff like The Great British Bake Off and Taskmaster, in addition to multi-screen view.
Speaking of Taskmaster, the broadcaster also announced an environment based on the comedy game show. Environments on the AVP transform the world around the user, so people can watch Taskmaster while sitting in a room inspired by Taskmaster (cue that Xzibit Yo Dawg meme.) Other streaming apps have their own environments. Paramount+ offers one based on SpongeBob Squarepants and Disney+ now includes one set in Iceland.
This app doesn’t feature access to the recently-released Taskmaster VR experience. That one’s still tied to Steam VR and Meta Quest. By most accounts, it’s a pretty bad game, so the Vision Pro isn’t missing much.

Meta slashes EU Facebook, Instagram subscription fees by 40%

Meta cut the price of its ad-free subscription versions of Facebook and Instagram by 40% for ********* Union users to comply with regulatory demands in the region.
The social media company will also offer EU users access to Facebook and Instagram for free if they agree to be shown ads based on a limited set of user data, the company said in a Tuesday blog.
Meta originally debuted an ad-free subscription service for the EU in October 2023 due to an EU regulation intended to clamp down on anti-competitive practices by tech companies. The subscription service also came into effect after regional regulators fined the company over $400 million for violating EU data privacy laws.
“The changes we’re announcing today meet EU regulator demands and go beyond what’s required by EU law,” Meta President Nick Clegg said Tuesday on Threads.
The company said it will drop the price of its EU monthly subscription service from 9.99 euros to 5.99 euros for desktop users and from 12.99 euros to 7.99 euros for iOS and Android users.
If EU users choose the “less personalized option” to access Facebook and Instagram for free, they will see ads that “may be less relevant to a person’s interests,” the company said. For this version, Meta said it will show ads based on “a minimal set of data points,” including users’ age, gender, location and how they engage with ads.
Additionally, EU users who choose the free option will also see unskippable ads that are intended to “provide value to advertisers,” Meta said.
The EU’s tough regulations have impacted Meta’s ability to quickly debut new services in the region compared to less-regulated areas like the U.S. In 2023, for instance, it took nearly half a year before Meta was able to offer its Twitter-like Threads service to ********* users after it launched in the U.S. that summer.
Pedro Pavón, a Meta global policy director, said that while EU regulators make it difficult for online-advertising based companies to operate in the region, he believes that business practice of offering personalized ads represents the “the foundation of a modern, free internet” and lets people “connect with the brands and products most relevant to them in seamless and non-disruptive ways.”
“This is why I expect that even when presented with several equal choices, most people will still choose our personalized ads service,” Pavón said in a LinkedIn post said.

Hedge funds performed better under Democratic presidents than *********** ones, history shows
Hedge funds performed better under Democratic presidents than *********** ones, history shows
Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
NYSE
There’s been a rush of enthusiasm on Wall Street regarding Donald Trump’s election win, but hedge funds actually generate more alpha when the White House is occupied by a Democrat president than a *********** one, according to HFR, collating data going back to 1991.
When compared with the S&P 500, the industry underperformed regardless of who was president. But during Democratic administrations, the gap was about 183 basis points, with hedge funds delivering average, annualized returns of 10.16%, compared to 11.99% from the S&P 500. The underperformance gap during *********** administrations was 331 basis points. (1 basis point equals 0.01%.)
Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards
When compared with the a bond index, HFR found that hedge funds under both parties outperformed – with stronger alpha when a Democrat was in the White House.
The total net asset flows were higher under *********** administrations (about $450 billion) than Democratic ones (about $400 billion), even though since 1991, Democrats served six more years in the highest office than Republicans.
Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards
Surprisingly, the way that hedge fund participants donate in elections was a bit more tilted toward one party. According to a recent report by Open Secrets, in the 2024 election cycle, individuals in the industry donated $31 million to Democratic candidates, while almost half that amount — $16 million — went to *********** candidates.
Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards
Of course the takeaway here is that hedge fund returns are far more correlated with positioning relative to various asset-class performances than particular policies by the administration. So, it’s hard to make any predictions about what the next four years entails for the industry.
At Wednesday’s 14th annual Delivering Alpha event, we should get a sense as to how money managers may be reconfiguring their portfolios.

Post Office jobs and branches at risk in shake-up
Post Office jobs and branches at risk in shake-up
More than 100 Post Office branches and hundreds of head office jobs are at risk as part of a ******** shake-up of the business, the BBC understands.
Under the plan, 115 loss-making branches wholly owned by the Post Office could be closed.
The Post Office is looking at options including alternative franchise arrangements where another operator or third party could take on the branches instead.
These sites employ around 1,000 workers. In addition to this, hundreds of jobs are under threat at the group’s headquarters.
The Post Office’s new chairman Nigel Railton will brief staff on Wednesday on the outcome of a review launched earlier this year.
The former boss of Camelot was appointed interim chairman of the Post Office after his predecessor Henry Staunton was sacked in January.
The aim of the review is to put the Post Office on a firmer financial footing.
The troubled organisation is currently the subject of a long-running inquiry into the Horizon IT scandal, in which hundreds of sub-postmasters were wrongly prosecuted after faulty software made it appear money was missing from their accounts.
Railton has already told the Post Office inquiry that a new deal was needed for sub-postmasters, to put them at the centre of the business.
The strategic review is designed to fundamentally change how the Post Office operates.
The business has 11,500 Post Offices across the ***, most of which are franchises.
Of this number, 115 are Crown Post Offices in city centres staffed by Post Office employees.
Earlier this month Post Office minister Gareth Thomas said the organisation was at a critical juncture and the government had already commissioned its own review into what the Post Office should look like in the future.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the inquiry on Monday that he didn’t feel sub-postmasters were getting appropriate pay for the amount of business they conduct.
He hinted that Post Office branches could step into filling the gap left by High Street bank branch closures.
Ministers have been exploring plans to hand ownership of the Post Office to sub-postmasters.
Reynolds told the Horizon inquiry there was still “tremendous affection” for the Post Office among the *** public and a “******* for it to have a strong future.”
He said the Post Office “has to be one that has a significantly smaller centre” and sub-postmasters needed better pay, adding “that will necessitate some quite considerable changes to the organisation centrally to do that”.
A Post Office spokesperson said that on Wednesday the organisation would be setting out a “new deal” for postmasters and for “the future of the Post Office as an organisation”.
“It will dramatically increase postmasters’ share of revenues, strengthen our branch network and make it work better for local communities, independent postmasters and our partners who own and operate branches,” he added.

Sony has cut the PS5 Slim Digital Edition price by $70 until Christmas
Sony has cut the PS5 Slim Digital Edition price by $70 until Christmas
Sony Interactive Entertainment has cut the price of the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition console in the ******* States in a limited-time offer.
In a deal running until December 24, “while supplies last”, the PS5 Slim Digital Edition is available with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $379.99.
The offer, which knocks $70 off the disc-free console’s normal $449.99 price, was revealed at the end of a new ‘Play Has No Limits’ PS5 advert, which is viewable below.
At the time of publishing, the reduced price point has yet to be applied on Sony’s PlayStation Direct online store, where the console is still listed for $449.99.
The standard PS5 Slim console costs $499.99, while the newly launched PS5 Pro console retails $699.99.
Sony said last week that it shipped some 3.8 million PS5 consoles during its second quarter ended in September – down 29% compared to the same ******* last year – taking its life-to-date total to 65.5 million. This means that PS5 is a few million units behind where PS4 was during the same ******* of its lifecycle (67.5 million units shipped).
The PlayStation business is expected to post record operating income in Sony’s current fiscal year, partly due to strong sales of third-party games and PlayStation Plus subscriptions, and it intends to focus on a mix of single-player and live service games going forward.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Been Played for So Long on Steam Deck That If You Jump Back the Same Amount in Time, ****** Will Still be Alive
Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Been Played for So Long on Steam Deck That If You Jump Back the Same Amount in Time, ****** Will Still be Alive
Since its release, Baldur’s Gate 3 has captivated players with its immersive narrative, engaging gameplay, and the freedom to shape their own journey. The game quickly became a massive success, proving how an RPG can make players deeply invested in their characters and the consequences of every decision. Since launch, it has reached numerous milestones that highlight its impact on the gaming world.
The game is still going strong and achieving various milestones. | Image Credit: Larian Studios
Although Larian Studios has stated that it is not going to work on the next installment in the series or a DLC, it ******** very active with the community and shares intriguing behind-the-scenes details about the game. Recently, publishing director Michael Douse shared an incredible fact about the game: the staggering amount of playtime it has accumulated on Steam Deck alone, leaving fans and players in awe.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Keeps Breaking Records and Reaching Milestones
Baldur’s Gate 3 has left such a long-lasting impression that it feels like the game was launched just yesterday, but in reality, it has been over a year since its full release. The game, developed by Larian Studios, officially launched in August 2023 but it is still going strong, continuing to hit major milestones and capturing the imagination of RPG fans worldwide.
Recently, publishing director Michael Douse revealed that the game has now been played for over 17,223,529 hours on the Steam Deck alone. While the stats may not be a ‘traditional’ milestone like a sales figure or a holiday update, the sheer scale is hard to ignore. Douse even joked and suggested that the studio should release a “special edition 100w battery” for the Steam deck.
Over 17,223,529 hours of Baldur’s Gate 3 has been played on Steam Deck. We should partner with someone to do a special edition 100w battery. A little bag of holding, you know, for ur juice.
— Very AFK (@Cromwelp) November 11, 2024
To put this into perspective, 17.2 million hours equals about 1,965 years, a duration so long that if players jump back that same amount of time, they would find themselves in the midst of the early days of the Roman Empire and ****** would still be alive. In fact, ****** was born around 4 to 6 BCE which means he was alive less than 2,000 years ago, which is further proof of just how vast these numbers can feel when you stretch them out through time.
But beyond the joke, this statistic really highlights how enormous this achievement is. To fully understand, let’s break it down a bit further. 17.2 million hours represents an almost incomprehensible amount of playtime, especially when you consider that the Steam Deck audience is just one fraction of the total Baldur’s Gate 3 player base.
If players factor in all the hours spent on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions of the game, as well as the gameplay on other handheld devices, the actual amount of playtime would be so much higher. This goes to show the popularity of the game and why it made the RPG genre mainstream once again single-handedly.
Players Looking Forward to Future Milestones
The game continues to impress players with its various features. | Image Credit: Larian Studios.
One of the biggest reasons for this sustained success of Baldur’s Gate 3 has been the attention paid to its modding community. In September 2024, Larian achieved another milestone where it reached 50 million mod downloads since Patch 7 was released, which officially introduced modding support.
From the achievement, it’s clear that mods have become a vital part of the experience and will continue to make the game enjoyable for years to come. Some mods even allow players to tweak the narrative itself or add new elements to the game’s complex Dungeons & Dragons mechanics. These user-generated additions further keep the game fresh and ensure that no two playthroughs are alike.
As Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to make waves in the RPG and gaming communities, it’s exciting to think about what’s next. Given the game’s track record, it’s likely that Larian Studios will continue to support the game with new content and updates for years to come.
In the end, whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer just jumping into the action, there’s no denying that this RPG has had a lasting impact on the gaming landscape, and its time at the top is far from over.

Likely narrow GOP House majority may jeopardize Trump’s tax cuts, Raymond James says
Likely narrow GOP House majority may jeopardize Trump’s tax cuts, Raymond James says
Republicans are nearing a sweep in Congress, but Raymond James says that it won’t be easy for President-elect Donald Trump to sign off on the legislation he wants — including the tax cuts that were part of his platform. As of Tuesday afternoon, Republicans secured 215 seats in the House of Representatives compared with the Democrats’ 206, according to NBC News. The *********** Party will have control of the Senate , with 52 seats versus the Democrats’ 47, but the GOP’s margin in the House is looking notably narrow this time, according to Raymond James’ Washington policy analyst, Ed Mills. “In 2025, Trump’s influence on Congressional Republicans will be stronger but his margin in the House will be in the single digits (down from 47 in 2017). … The narrow House majority will complicate the passage of any tax bill in 2025,” he said. Mills said the GOP is expected to use the budget reconciliation process to pass any of President-elect Trump’s tax proposals. However, even when the party held its wide House majority in 2017, he noted that 13 Republicans voted against then-President Trump’s proposed tax cuts due to disagreements over a $10,000 limit on the state and local tax, or SALT, deduction. That measure, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act , ultimately passed and went into effect in 2018. However, a slate of provisions are expected to sunset at the end of 2025 , setting the table for talks in Washington on how to extend the tax breaks . One point of discussion as to how to fund tax cuts this time around has been to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, which is another likely point of contention, Mills added. “The narrow margins will make this more difficult, especially given the number of Congressional Republicans with IRA-funded projects in their districts,” the analyst said. In order to keep GOP lawmakers from defecting on the tax bill, legislators may seek compromises on the SALT deduction, tariffs or changes to Medicaid, according to Mills. Wolfe Research analyst Tobin Marcus also thinks passing a tax bill is a “complex challenge” with such narrow majorities across the House and the Senate. “The Congressional negotiations over this package will be complex, so there will absolutely be wrinkles we don’t expect here. But we think the hefty price tag for extending expiring individual tax provisions past EOY25 will sharply limit how much incremental tax cutting Republicans can do, and will compel them to include some real offsets despite reluctance from some parts of their coalition,” Marcus wrote in a research note Tuesday.

Gas prices will drop below $3 before Thanksgiving, analyst says
Gas prices will drop below $3 before Thanksgiving, analyst says
Gasoline prices could fall below $3 per gallon by Thanksgiving as oil continues to drop on investor concerns over weak demand, one analyst told Yahoo Finance.
Oil prices have dropped roughly 10% over the past month. Additionally, November is usually a weak month for gas consumption, and most refineries are now back online after annual maintenance, OPIS global head of energy analysis Tom Kloza said.
“I think we’ll go below $3 per gallon for the average price before Thanksgiving,” Kloza told Yahoo Finance.
“Prices are actually much cheaper than they were in the autumns of 2023 or 2022,” he added.
Gas stations are also selling winter blend gasoline, which is cheaper than the summer-grade version.
Kloza added, “The question is not so much when do we drop below $3 per gallon, but how much lower can we go?”
On Tuesday, the national average price of a gallon of gas sat at $3.08 per gallon, down $0.12 from a month ago and $0.29 lower than a year ago, according to AAA data.
Twenty-six states are already seeing averages below the $3 threshold, including the Midwest and panhandle states like Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama.
Southeast states like Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina have also seen prices fall below that level.
Oil has been volatile following the US presidential elections over concerns that China’s weak economy and the possibility of increased tariffs under an incoming Trump administration could weigh on demand.
“Tariffs may ultimately impact trade between the USA and China, negatively affecting the ******** economy and the growth in oil demand,” Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates, told Yahoo Finance earlier this week.
A rising US Dollar Index (DX-Y.NYB) has put pressure on oil prices, with futures dropping 5% over the past two sessions.
On Tuesday, West Texas Intermediate (CL=F) hovered around $68 per barrel midday, while Brent (BZ=F), the international benchmark, traded near $72 per barrel.
Earlier in the day, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) cut its global oil projection growth for 2024 and 2025, marking the group’s fourth consecutive monthly downside revision.
Wall Street widely projects oil prices will decrease in 2025, which would help bring down the prices for fuels like gasoline.
The Energy Information Administration predicts gasoline will average $3.20 per gallon next year, down from $3.30 this year.

Cadillac reveals the 2026 Vistiq EV SUV
Cadillac reveals the 2026 Vistiq EV SUV
Cadillac is adding to its fleet of EVs with a new luxury SUV. is a three-row, all-electric SUV that will hit showrooms and dealerships sometime next summer with a starting price of $78,790.
The Vistiq’s dual-motor, all-wheel drive system runs on a 102 kWh battery pack with a range of 300 miles that produces 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The Vistiq also supports vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging capabilities: it can charge at home, and also deliver electricity to your house during a power outage. Using the features requires buying the GM Energy V2H bundle though.
The SUV’s design borrows aesthetically from other Cadillac EVs. Like the , it has flush door handles, and features similar looking lights and side panels. It also matches the Lyriq’s 300 mile range. The “swept-back windshield” and “****** Crystal Shield grill” evoke the Escalade IQ.
Of course, the Vistiq’s power and price are different from its Cadillac EV’s. The new Cadillac EV SUV is less expensive than an Escalade IQ ($129,990) but more than a Lyriq ($58,595), and the has a higher peak battery range at 450 miles.
The Vistiq comes with a 23-speaker AKG7 Studio Audio system with Dolby Atmos. The Android-powered infotainment system is baked into a 33-inch high resolution LED display. The Verge also that the new EV’s navigation system uses Google Maps and can run other apps from the Google Play Store.

One week later – Some Trump trades gain momentum and some are fading
One week later – Some Trump trades gain momentum and some are fading
It’s a good time to check in on how the “Trump trade” is doing. The stock market rallied to fresh records after Donald Trump was declared the next U.S. president, with investors ******** that his vow to cut taxes and loosen regulation will foster deal-making, stimulate the economy and support risk assets. The S & P 500 last week scored its best week since November 2023, hitting the 6,000 mark, while the 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed above 44,000. But the postelection euphoria is already starting to fade in some of the early winners. Stocks seen as early beneficiaries, among them steelmakers and banks, are losing momentum, while others like Tesla are continuing to climb. Take a look at the names CNBC Pro found that are starting to lose their postelection mojo: Each of the “Trump trades” was up at least 5% the day after the election this year, and also climbed 10% from Election Day to year-end in 2016, the first time Trump was elected, according to FactSet. But since last Wednesday, each is down at least 2% — reflecting waning enthusiasm in the stocks that helped spur the postelection rally. Construction equipment maker Caterpillar has seen run-up begin to fade. Its shares are nearly flat week so far this week. Steelmakers Steel Dynamics and Nucor are also declining, losing more than 3% each on Tuesday alone. Some financials such as JPMorgan , regional bank Citizens Financial and insurer Prudential are also seeing a slowdown after their initial rally (financials were the top-performing sector on Nov. 6, the day after the election). Morgan Stanley analyst Betsy Graseck recently said that a Trump presidency and ***********-controlled Senate could drive up big banks , such as Wells Fargo and Bank of America . Semiconductor manufacturer Micron Technology and cloud networking company Arista Networks , along with a couple other tech names, are others that are seeing slowing momentum. Others thought to benefit are continuing to surge. These stocks were also up 5% the day after the election, had gained 10% from Election Day to year-end the first time around in 2016, but are moving higher and up at least 1% since the initial postelection reaction last week. Take a look at the lot: Tesla ‘s the most popular winner in the group, gaining roughly 21% since Nov. 6, boosted by CEO Elon Musk ‘s close relationship with Trump. Tesla is now up more than 36% for the year, a turnaround after facing several struggles with its electric vehicles and standing as one of the most oversold names on Wall Street to start the year. Deutsche Bank analyst Edison Yu said Tuesday that if Vice President-elect JD Vance were to “take the reins” after Trump, Musk could have an even closer ally in the presidency for up to 12 years, benefiting Tesla’s efforts in automobiles, robotaxis and potentially humanoid robotics. Other than Tesla, energy stocks Coterra Energy and Baker Hughes are also moving higher, the latter gaining more than 15% just this month. And while some regional lenders are declining postelection, many of the biggest banks on Wall Street — including Bank of America , Morgan Stanley , Goldman and Citigroup — continue to reap the Trump trade momentum.

COD League 2025 Skins Revealed by Activision
COD League 2025 Skins Revealed by Activision
Activision has lifted the lid on the Call of Duty League 2025 season Operator skins, and they’re… Well, they’re not good. They’re pretty basic and almost nothing seems to have influenced their design beyond basic colour schemes, but at least Boston Breach has a demonic face mask.
The smattering of skins hasn’t impressed COD League fans worldwide, but they’ll of course sell because Call of Duty players love to represent their favourite team in-game.
COD League Skins Confirmed
All 12 COD League skins have been revealed by Activision, but they’re not very innovative. That’s a surprise considering how inventive teams have been with other Operator skins in ****** Ops 6 thus far, and the Season One Battle Pass continues that trend in earnest.
Here are the teams competing in the Call of Duty League 2025 season:
Atlanta FaZe
Boston Breach
Carolina Royal Ravens
Cloud9 New York
LA Guerrillas
LA Thieves
Miami Heretics
Minnesota Rokkr
OpTic Texas
Seattle Surge
Toronto Ultra
Team Falcons
The design follows the ‘backwards-cap-and-goggles’ aesthetic that has been present in the Call of Duty League skin circle for years. It’s about time something changed, but at least the team branding is on point.
Some of the flashier skins have been reserved for Boston Breach and OpTic Texas, while the LAG and C9 skins have a full-body colour change on deck – everyone else is just wearing a standard ****** outfit.
Traditionally, teams have very little input in the design of these skins. They can choose colours, the locations of said colours, and usually the design of the central flash that makes up the skin’s core identity, but that’s it. They’re not going to have Rokkr’s skin wearing a horned helmet or have the Royal Ravens’ skin boast a set of wings now, are they?
The COD League skins will be released later in Season One.

Why Tesla, crypto and prisons are Trump trade winners
Why Tesla, crypto and prisons are Trump trade winners
Getty Images
Financial markets greeted Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election with a blistering rally.
That’s despite considerable debate about how Trump’s plans for tariffs, lower taxes and mass migrant deportations might affect the world’s largest economy.
A week on, the surge finally appears to be settling. The three major stock indexes in the US are on track to end the day lower, after rising roughly 5% since 4 November, the day before the election.
Here are some of the companies that have come out ahead, as investors try to game out what the next four years might bring.
Tesla
Tesla shares have surged more than 40% since 4 November.
The rally has pushed the market value of the firm back above $1tn for the first time since 2022 and boosted the wealth of boss Elon Musk, who owns a roughly 13% stake in the company, by more than $50bn.
It marks a bet by investors that a Trump White House might ease up on some of the investigations by safety regulators into features such as self-driving.
The ties between Trump and Musk could also help Tesla navigate shifts in relationship between the US and China, where the company has a significant presence.
Although Trump is generally expected to reduce government support for electric vehicles, such as tax credits, analysts say this could actually benefit Tesla, the market leader in the US, making it ******* for rivals to catch up.
CryptocurrencyGetty Images
The price of the best-known cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, jumped more than 25% to new all-time records this week on the back of Trump’s win, briefly storming past $89,000.
The gains are a sign that investors are anticipating big changes for the sector, which faced a crackdown under the Biden administration from regulators warning it was rife with hucksters and fraudsters.
Trump once also called crypto a scam, but he changed his tune on the campaign trail this year, promising to make the US the “crypto capital of the planet”.
He said he would create a strategic bitcoin stockpile and sack Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler, who had sparked anger by taking legal action against firms under existing financial laws.
Crypto firms insist their sector should be subject to new, tailor-made rules. That likely depends on Congress, where they could also get a friendlier hearing this year.
BanksGetty Images
Big bank bosses: (l-r) Wells Fargo’s Charles Scharf, Bank of America’s Brian Moynihan, JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon and Citigroup’s Jane Fraser
Shares in some of America’s biggest banks have seen double digit gains since the day before the election as investors bet financial firms will be among the most immediate beneficiaries of Trump’s promises for lighter regulation.
Among other issues, he will now have a voice shaping pending rules that set how much cash banks must keep on hand as financial cushion.
Trump is also expected to part ways with Lina Khan, current head of the Federal Trade Commission, who is known for her anti-monopoly views and is blamed for casting a chill on deal-making, a key business for banks.
Shares in Capital One and Discover, which have a merger under review by regulators, have jumped roughly 20% since the result.
Prison operatorsGetty Images
Shares in the leading publicly traded prison firms GEO Group and CoreCivic have jumped more than 70% since 4 November.
The gains point to the big opportunity investors see for private prison operators as Trump vows to round up and deport millions of migrants.
In 2021, President Joe Biden had ordered the Justice Department to stop doing business with private prison companies.
But Trump, who reversed a similar order during his first term, is expected to change that policy and drive new business, as he looks for help to carry out his immigration promises.
Trump’s first actions as president have been focused on assembling the team in charge of immigration policy, a signal it is likely to be a priority.

The dollar index is hovering at its highest level since April, rising more than 2% in the last week.
It is good news for ********* tourists travelling abroad – but a more mixed signal about the economy.
That is in part because the strength of the dollar is closely tied to interest rates, which investors are now ******** could stay higher than previously anticipated.
It partially reflects data from before the election suggesting the US economy is stronger than previously understood.
But investors also see a risk that lower taxes, less immigration and new trade barriers could keep pressure on inflation, making the US central bank more reluctant to cut interest rates.
Last week, the Federal Reserve offered little guidance about the months ahead, saying it was too early to tell what impact Trump’s policies might have.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson reportedly being considered for top Disney job
EA CEO Andrew Wilson reportedly being considered for top Disney job
Disney is reportedly considering Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson as a successor to current boss Bob Iger.
That’s according to the Wall Street Journal’s sources, who claim that ***********-born Wilson is currently one of three external candidates in the frame for the job.
Internal candidates being considered for the role reportedly include Disney Entertainment co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro.
Iger, who is in his second spell as Disney CEO, is due to step down when his contract expires in 2026.
Wilson joined EA in 2000 and has served as its chairman and CEO since 2013.
“Prior to becoming CEO, Andrew served as executive vice president of EA Sports and Origin where he led the global EA Sports business, as well as EA’s digital PC service,” according to his profile on the company’s website.
“Previous to this, he led all aspects of EA’s online organization, including the company’s Asia business operations and direct-to-consumer services. Andrew also served as vice president and executive producer of all EA Sports FIFA games, growing the IP into one of the most popular video game franchises of all time.”
During his first spell in charge of Disney, Iger oversaw the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox.
A Bloomberg report last October claimed Iger’s deputies were pushing him to consider acquiring a major game publisher like EA.
Senior executives wanted Iger to explore the possibility of transforming the company from a gaming licensee to a gaming giant with major first-party capabilities, it was claimed.
As well as working on various Star Wars titles, including Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi series, EA is making “several new games” based on Marvel properties, including Iron Man and ****** Panther titles.

This Trump trade is an underappreciated opportunity, says Janus Henderson
This Trump trade is an underappreciated opportunity, says Janus Henderson
Financial and energy stocks have jumped since last week’s election, but there’s another area of opportunity that investors could be missing out on, according to Janus Henderson. The market has rallied since President-elect Donald Trump’ s victory, although it took a breather on Tuesday. Investors have been particularly focused on the so-called Trump trade , which includes financials, as well as oil and gas names. The S & P 500 financials sector moved nearly 8% higher over the past week, while energy stocks have gained nearly 5% during that time. However, financial stocks may have “gotten in a bit ahead of themselves,” said Jeremiah Buckley, a portfolio manager at Janus Henderson. Instead, he sees an opportunity in health-care stocks, which should also benefit from a Trump administration, he said in an interview on CNBC’s ” Squawk on the Street .” The sector is up just under 2% over the past week, and is the third-worst performing group in the S & P 500 year to date. “It has been a difficult regulatory environment for health care over the last four years, with price controls on pharmaceuticals, [and] regulations around Medicare and Medicaid,” Buckley explained. “Going forward, the administration could be a little more favorable for the overall industry — and that could be positive.” In addition, there is great research and development happening in health care right now, especially in health-care services, Buckley added. XHS YTD mountain SPDR S & P Health Care Services ETF “There is great innovation. We’ve obviously seen the benefits of GLP-1 s, which have driven substantial growth for pharmaceuticals and companies like Eli Lilly, ” he said. “We think there is additional innovation in ******* and across the board in diabetes, as well as medical devices.” He thinks that health-care services companies will also have improved profit margins over time as utilization trends normalize. Among the funds Buckley oversees at Janus Henderson is the U.S. Dividend Income Fund . UnitedHealth Group , AbbVie and Medtronic are among its top 10 holdings, as of Sept. 30. Gilead Sciences and Amgen also make up more than 2% each of the fund’s assets. Another fund Buckley oversees is the Growth and Income Fund, which includes many of the same health-care names and had 2.7% of its assets in Eli Lilly as of Sept. 30.

Why did Justin Welby resign after ****** scandal?
Why did Justin Welby resign after ****** scandal?
Getty Images
Justin Welby has resigned as Archbishop of Canterbury after facing increasing pressure to stand down over his ******** to report prolific child abuser John Smyth.
Here are the events that led up to Mr Welby’s resignation after 11 years in the post.
Why did Welby resign now?
A damning independent review published last week found Mr Welby – the most senior bishop within the ******* of England – and other ******* officers should have formally reported Smyth in 2013 to police in the *** and authorities in South *******.
Smyth was accused of attacking dozens of boys, including those he met at ********** camps, in the *** in the 1970s and 1980s.
The barrister and senior member of a ********** charity then moved to Zimbabwe and later South *******, where he abused up to 100 boys aged 13 to 17, the Makin review added.
By 2013, the ******* of England “knew, at the highest level” about Smyth’s ******, including Mr Welby who took up the *******’s top job that year.
If he and other ******* officers had reported this to police in the *** and authorities in South ******* at that time, “John Smyth could have [been] brought to justice at a much earlier point”, the independent report said.
Mr Welby had previously resisted calls to step aside over his response to the case since 2013.
But amid mounting pressure, he said in a statement on Tuesday he must take “personal and institutional responsibility”.
The prime minister’s spokeswoman said Keir Starmer “respects the decision” to step down and his thoughts “first and foremost, remain with all the victims”.
When did the ****** allegations first surface?
Smyth was under police investigation when he *****
Smyth’s ****** was first reported to the charity Iwerne Trust, where he had been chairman, in the early 1980s.
A report detailing his “horrific” beatings of teenaged boys was presented to some ******* leaders in 1982. But the recipients of that report “participated in an active cover-up” to prevent its findings, including that ******* had been committed, coming to light, the Makin review said.
Smyth’s ****** in the *** re-emerged in 2012, when a ******* officer in Cambridgeshire received a letter “out of the blue” from a fellow survivor.
The review stated that five police forces were told of the ****** between 2013 and 2016. ******* leaders however did not lodge a formal report.
It was not until 2017, after a Channel 4 documentary revealed details about Smyth’s ****** to the public, that police launched a full investigation.
Smyth is believed to have continued his ****** in South ******* until his ****** in 2018.
How much did Welby know about Smyth?
Mr Welby worked at summer camps in Dorset where Smyth met some of his victims, but the archbishop said he was unaware of the nature of the allegations until 2013.
A member of the clergy warned Mr Welby about Smyth in the 1980s, but the archbishop told the review this had been “vague” and “there was no indication given of the abuses which later came to light”.
After the Channel 4 documentary was broadcast in 2017, Mr Welby apologised “unreservedly” to Smyth’s victims but did not resign.
Following the Makin review this month, the archbishop said he had considered resigning over its findings and repeated his apology.
Mr Welby acknowledged that the review made clear he had “personally ******* to ensure it was energetically investigated”.
But on Tuesday, following a petition set up by members of the *******’s parliament – the General Synod – and mounting pressure to go, Mr Welby resigned.
What did his critics say?DIOCESE OF NEWCASTLE
Bishop Hartley said it was “hard to find the words” to respond to last week’s report
Critics included Bishop of Newcastle Helen-Ann Hartley, who said Mr Welby’s resignation would “be a very clear indication that a line has been drawn, and that we must move towards independence of safeguarding”.
A survivor of Smyth’s ****** also called for Mr Welby to go, saying that he felt the archbishop’s admission that he had not done enough in response to the reports meant that both he and the ******* of England had effectively been involved in a “cover-up”.
The petition calling for his resignation, which accused the archbishop of “allowing ****** to continue” and said his position was “no longer tenable”, was signed by more than 14,000 people.
The prime minister had also publicly said victims of Smyth had been “******* very, very badly,” but would not comment when asked whether the archbishop should quit.
Who will replace Welby and how are they chosen?
It is not known how long the archbishop will remain in post but the process of finding a replacement is likely to take at least six months.
A consultation, which is expected to last several months, will ask people in and outside the ******* of England what they want from the next archbishop.
The information will help form the basis of a longlist of suitable candidates.
While candidates cannot apply for the role, those chosen to be interviewed do not have to be from the ******* of England and they do not have to be bishops, although they are likely to be.
The candidates will then be interviewed by a committee, with a chair appointed by the prime minister.
Members will include representatives from around the global Anglican Communion, the General Synod, as well as at least one bishop.
At least two-thirds of the committee members must agree before a decision is made.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is also the spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican community.

Rumored ****** Ops 6 Bug That Lets You Equip AK-74 as Melee ******* is a Godsend
Rumored ****** Ops 6 Bug That Lets You Equip AK-74 as Melee ******* is a Godsend
Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 has just been released. After completing the Modern Warfare trilogy, Activision is now looking to revive its ****** Ops series. The last game in the series, ****** Ops Cold War, didn’t get a favorable reception from the fans, which is why all the honors lay on the shoulders of the recently launched title.
Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 is released on October 25, 2024. | Credit: Activision.
However, things are not going very well for BO6, as the game is heavily criticized for the new movement mechanics and launch maps. The game’s TTK/TTD is also terribly inconsistent. Along with all of these, now new bug has appeared in the game. Surprisingly, fans like this bug a lot.
You Can Equip an AK-74 As Your Melee ******* in Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6

Recently a dedicated fan has shared a screenshot of his multiplayer loadout in Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6. Everything was pretty good as the AK-74 was the primary ******* and the 9mm PM was the secondary *******. ***** was let loose when our eyes focused on the melee slot as it was occupied by another AK-74.
Generally, that particular slot is for melee weapons like knives and baseball bats. But there is a weird bug for which the AK-74 rifle can be clubbed in the melee section. The whole BO6 community is going crazy seeing this crazy bug.
This fan has a witty line to sum up the situation.
Another fan has brought up a legendary statement from none other than Captain Price.
This can be an exciting way to use the AK-74 as a melee *******.
Now this fan has come up with another similar glitch, but 180 degrees different than the AK-74 one.
This fan managed to equip a Grekhova in his melee slot.
Things have gone to the next level because you can actually use this setup to play in a real match. Yes, you can have two AK-74s at the same time in your loadout.
Just imagine, you are empty on bullets in both primary and secondary weapons, and the ****** is approaching you, seeing a free *****, and *****! You holster your trump card, a freaking AK as a melee *******.
Although we hoped it would be ******* the “melee *******” with a single hand (because that’s how you use a melee *******). The fan’s loadout might be buggy, but you can check out our guide for the best ******** rifle loadouts in ****** Ops 6.
Treyarch Has to Work on a Serious Issue in Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6
****** Ops 6 players are suffering from serious packet burst isses. | Credit: Activision.
The main problem with the game isn’t dull maps or overpowered weapons this time. Activision is being urged by a large number of fans to fix the Packet Burst error, which is basically the game’s term for Packet Loss, a network issue that results in significant lag, stuttering, and other in-game delays.
Data packets that are delayed, lost, or transmitted inconsistently between a player’s device and the game server are referred to as packet bursts or losses. This causes a noticeable lag, stutter, and delay while playing the game. It’s worse than having a high ping and is likely the worst problem a player can encounter when playing an online game.
With hits not registering and responses feeling strange, players characterize it as a never-ending struggle to keep up with real-time gameplay. In a fast-paced shooter like ****** Ops 6, where split-second decisions can mean the difference between life and ******, this instability is particularly troublesome.

Driver ****** 35 in ramming ******* on crowd in China
A driver has rammed his car into a crowd at a sports centre in southern China, ******** 35 people and severely injuring 43 in one of the deadliest attacks in contemporary ******** history.
******** authorities took almost 24 hours to officially disclose the incident, which took place on Monday night in Zhuhai, a city of about 2.5 million people in southern China near Macau.
Images and videos showing dozens of people knocked to the ground and a car fleeing from the scene, which circulated on China’s major social media platforms on Monday night, were swiftly censored.
****** comments about the official delay in reporting the incident were also removed, and the Weibo messaging site censored a hashtag that mentioned the ****** toll.
Police said the 62-year-old driver, with the surname Fan, had been captured and was hospitalised for wounds believed to have been self-inflicted with a ****** to the neck and other parts of his body.
Fan had been upset about the split of assets in his divorce settlement, police added.
Candles and flowers had been ***** at the scene on Tuesday evening.
About 30 people gathered around one of the gates of the sports centre, with delivery drivers on bikes stopping to add to about 20 bouquets ***** in a row.
Hundreds of rescue personnel from Zhuhai city and Guangdong province were deployed to provide emergency treatment and more than 300 healthcare workers from five hospitals worked around the clock to save lives, state media Beijing Daily reported.
The ******* happened as Zhuhai captured China’s attention with the People’s Liberation Army’s largest annual airshow, where a new stealth jet fighter is on display for the first time.
“I was driving nearby last night and heard sirens everywhere, I thought it was for the airshow but then I’ve never heard sirens so loud before,” a taxi driver surnamed Guo said.
“Then the passenger said there’d been a hit-and-run, I didn’t realise it was so bad.”
Others expressed shock.
“I don’t know what to say but I hope this kind of sickness does not spread,” a Weibo user wrote.
The ****** toll “makes every pore on my body stand on end,” said another.
There was no indication that the ******* was related to the airshow.
But it was the second such incident to occur during the Zhuhai airshow: in 2008, at least four people were ******* and 20 injured when a man drove a truck into a crowded schoolyard during the airshow.
Police said that attacker had been seeking revenge over a traffic dispute.
President Xi Jinping, cited by ******** state television CCTV, ordered all-out efforts to treat the injured and demanded severe punishment for the perpetrator.
The central government has dispatched a team to provide guidance on handling of the case, CCTV said.
Violent ****** is rare in China due to tight security and strict **** laws.
However, a rise in reports of ****** attacks in large cities has drawn public attention to safety in public spaces.
The deadliest ******* Reuters was able to identify in recent years in China took place in Urumqi, in China’s western Xinjiang region, in 2014 in which ******** ******** ******* 39 people and four of the five attackers also *****.

This budget Roomba ****** vacuum is nearly half off ahead of ****** Friday
The blackest of Fridays is nearly upon us and companies have already begun rolling out the deals to separate consumers from their bank accounts. Here’s one for a well-regarded and budget-friendly robovac. The iRobot Roomba Essential Vac , which is a discount of 44 percent. The regular price is $250.
The Essential Vac features a similar design to the iRobot Roomba 694, which topped our list of the . This one includes a three-stage cleaning system that works on both carpet and hard floors. It features the same smart navigation system as other iRoomba vacuums, so it’ll avoid stairs and work its way around items of furniture.
iRobot
Despite being a budget-friendly robovac, there are some modern flourishes. The vacuum will automatically return to the charging station when the battery runs low, which is always nice. It also integrates with the Roomba app for setting cleaning schedules and for building a custom map of the home.
The battery life sits at around two hours, which is a decent metric for the price. That should be more than enough time to thoroughly clean a medium-sized home. The major caveat here is that this is a budget robovac, so it doesn’t mop and it doesn’t ship with a large debris canister. Still, the price is right for those curious about eliminating sweeping from that to-do list.
