Sunderland Parkinson’s patient ‘feels cured’ with new device

Kevin Hill said he is able to go for days now without thinking about his Parkinson’s
A man fitted with a pioneering, computer-controlled brain implant to tackle his Parkinson’s disease says it works so well he is sometimes able to forget he has the condition.
A small computer inserted into Kevin Hill’s chest wall 12 months ago is connected to wires running into the brain which can send electrical signals and an update means it can now read his brain activity.
The 65-year-old from Sunderland said it has been so successful he feels like he has “been cured”.
Surgeons in Newcastle hope the deep brain stimulation will have a “huge impact” on the quality of life of patients with the disease.
Mr Hill said: “I forget about Parkinson’s for days and days and days.”
Kitchen ban
He began getting symptoms, including trembling in his thumb, in his 40s and started suffering nightmares and insomnia.
He was banned by his wife from going into the kitchen because his hand shook so much he spilled or dropped hot drinks and even cut the end of his finger off.
In 2017 he visited his GP and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
He was told there were medicines but no cure, but there was a new treatment – deep brain stimulation (DBS) – and tests proved he was suitable for the surgery.
It involved an implant that runs deep into the brain to an area the size of a grain of rice.
NEWCASTLE HOSPITALS
Mr Hill originally had to go to hospital to have the system reprogrammed, but with updates it can now do that automatically
The computer in his chest is connected to two thin wires that thread up the back of his neck.
It carries the electrical messages that can manage his Parkinson’s symptoms.
Mr Hill described the computer as the size and shape of “a Jaffa Cake”.
When it was switched on after surgery he said the impact was dramatic.
After years of sleepless nights, and being unable to manage the uncontrollable shaking of his arm and leg, his tremors “stopped instantly”.
Mr Hill said he stared at his still hand and “couldn’t believe it”. His wife burst into tears.
The life he once knew came back, meaning he was able to go to the pub and see his friends again.
He bought a bike and was even allowed back into the kitchen.
KEVIN HILL
A brain implant links to the computer in Mr Hill’s chest
For the last year he has had to go to hospital regularly to have his system re-programmed to better control his symptoms.
Now, a new updated version called “adaptive deep brain stimulation” has been designed to re-programme the system in real time.
It can also read a patient’s brain signals which doctors say should mean even better control of symptoms.
NEWCASTLE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST
Neurosurgeon Akbar Hussain said recent changes to the device would be very significant to patients’ qulaity of life
Akbar Hussain, a neurosurgeon at Newcastle Hospitals, is one of the first doctors in the world to offer the new adaptive Brainsense treatment, developed by Medtronic.
He said: “The amazing thing about the adaptive version is that the electrical impulses provided to the brain by the device are controlled and adjusted automatically, according to individual patient’s recordings from the device in their chest.
“The biological signals generated within the person themselves are enough to alter the treatment given by the implant.
“These changes could be taking place by the minute or hour, meaning the treatment is truly responsive to the exact needs of each individual.
“It’s exciting. Hopefully this will have a huge impact and be very significant for the patients’ quality of life.”
Kevin Hill says his old life has returned since having the surgery
Dr Becky Jones, from the charity Parkinson’s ***, said: “Current DBS can be life changing and has the promise to be even more effective if it could be responsive to the needs of the individual. Brainsense represents a major step towards this.
“While evidence is still being gathered to assess the benefits of adaptive DBS versus the standard type, it’s great to see movement towards this becoming a new, more effective treatment for people with Parkinson’s.”
About 153,000 people in the *** are living with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological disorder affecting the brain and nervous system.
The number is expected to increase due to population growth and ageing.

Ghanaian gold play delivers for Castle with new drill hits
Ghanaian gold play delivers for Castle with new drill hits
Castle Minerals’ four-hole, 582-metre reverse circulation December drilling campaign at its Kandia gold prospect in Ghana intersected 7m at 3.36 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 149m in one hole and 5m at 3.49g/t gold from 82m in a second hole.
The two results are among the best to date from Kandia, while other two holes bored through a handy 3m at 2g/t gold and 6m assaying 1.35g/t gold, respectively.
The full intercept for the best hole was 24m at 1.78g/t gold from 139m, including 7m at 3.36g/t gold from 149m. The second-best hole gave up a total of 11m at 2.36g/t gold from 79m, including 5m at 3.49g/t gold from 82m.
The four holes were put into the Kandia prospect’s “4000 zone” as infill and step-back extension holes, where mineralisation has previously been confirmed over a prospect-scale strike of about 850m.
Encouragingly, the best hole in the latest limited but successful campaign was a step-back hole to test for a down-dip extension of the mineralised zone.
It made the deepest and thickest intercept on its particular section, which bodes well for the possibility of improving fortunes with increasing depth in any future drilling.
The 4000 zone is one of the zones of interest along the persistent, north-east striking sheared contact between eastern granodiorites and western Birimian metasediments that characterise the sizeable Kandia prospect. It is recognised as a prospective contact in Castle’s ground for more than 16 kilometres.
The zone and its mineralisation were defined initially by oil sampling, rotary air blast and reverse circulation drilling campaigns within an initial 6km-long area of focus, mostly within 500m west of and parallel to the strike of the contact.
The 4000 zone’s potential as a near-surface gold zone was at least partially highlighted – or reinforced – by evidence of sporadic artisanal mining having been undertaken in the area.
Castle says new artisanal workings have also appeared recently along the prospective contact at its other high priority “8000 zone”, some four kilometres northeast of the 4000 zone along the strike of the contact, thereby further confirming the likely presence and/or possible continuity of gold mineralisation along this major structure.
At the drilled Kandia sections, the mineralised zone dips to the northwest at about 45 degrees and varies in thickness between 15m and 25m.
It has been drilled from the northwest with a series of drill holes at various spacings on section. All are less than 50m apart.
All holes to date have been inclined uniformly at about 50 degrees, against the regular dip of the mineralisation, ensuring as far as possible good representation of true intercept thicknesses.
This four-hole, 582m drilling program at the Kandia prospect’s 4000 zone has delivered a lot of bang for our precious buck providing considerable encouragement that we can materially increase tonnes and grade here.
Castle has already estimated a combined 2012 JORC-compliant maiden mineral resource of 92,659 ounces of gold at an average grade of 1.1g/t gold for both the 4000 and 8000 zones.
Both targets justify considerable additional testwork and have strong potential to deliver on the effort put into them, which will likely be by gradually extending both zones towards each other if possible.
The structure is persistent, regular and simple but may return some initial effort into identifying cross-structures that may control gold concentrations along the main contact.
The structure has already provided a focus for recent and early future work and those insights will come as drilling migrates along strike or as attention is drawn to them by other methods such as geochemistry or geophysics.
Castle’s immediate objective at Kandia is to define one or more big, near-surface, open-pittable deposits along the 16km prospective local structure.
The company envisages Kandia supplementing mineralisation it has defined at other prospects within its greater 2686-square kilometre Wa gold project in the Upper West region of the country.
Kandia is showing signs of a potentially lucrative deposit given the prospect’s wide intercepts, regular structure and evidence of strong lateral continuity and possible improvement with depth inherent in the very contact that is hosting or associated with the mineralisation.
Castle’s work to follow-up the latest results proposes further extensional drilling at the 4000 zone and specifically-targeted drilling at several other areas of historical wide-spaced shallow drilling, such as at the 8000 zone, where artisanal miners remain active.
Management says it would also look forward to testing along the interval between the two known zones of interest and then further north where the prospective geology trends onto the 2.5-million-ounce ****** Volta gold project.
Castle has come a long way in a relatively short time with staged, careful work and good geological thought and now has a vast prospective playground that commands focus.
West Africa is one of the world’s premier regions for gold exploration, having given rise to about 15 serious discoveries since 2012, each one endowed with more than 2m ounces.
Ghana’s northern region is now considered one of the best areas to discover more of the same and Castle could easily find itself in the right address at the right time with the gold price peaking.

Record $4.5 billion EU fine punished its innovation, Google tells EU court
Record $4.5 billion EU fine punished its innovation, Google tells EU court
By Foo Yun Chee
BRUSSELS (Reuters) – A record EU antitrust fine of 4.3-billion-euro ($4.5 billion) imposed on Google seven years ago punished the tech giant over its innovation, the Alphabet unit told Europe’s top court on Tuesday, as it asked judges to scrap the EU decision.
Google’s appeal to the Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union comes two years after a lower tribunal sided with the European Commission which said the company used its Android mobile operating system to quash rivals.
The lower court trimmed the fine to 4.1 billion euros.
“Google does not contest or shy away from its responsibility under the law, but the Commission also has a responsibility when it runs investigations, when it seeks to reshape markets and second-guess pro-competitive business models, and when it imposes multi-billion-euro fines,” Google lawyer Alfonso Lamadrid told the court.
“In this case, the Commission failed to discharge its burden and its responsibility and, relying on multiple errors of law, punished Google for its superior merits, attractiveness and innovation,” he said.
Lamadrid defended Google’s agreements which forced phone manufacturers to pre-install Google Search, the Chrome browser and the Google Play app store on their Android devices, and prevented them from using rival Android systems.
EU antitrust enforcers had said such requirements thwarted competition.
Lamadrid argued that “these agreements and conditions did not restrict competition, they fostered it.”
Judges will rule in the coming months. Their decision would be final and cannot be appealed. Google is currently in the EU crosshairs over its lucrative ad tech business, over which a decision is likely this year.
The case is C-738/22 P – Google and Alphabet v Commission.

Neymar: Santos set to sign Brazilian after Al-Hilal contract terminated
Neymar: Santos set to sign Brazilian after Al-Hilal contract terminated
Brazilian club Santos are in talks to re-sign Neymar after his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal was cancelled by mutual consent.
The 32-year-old Brazil international is expected to sign a short-term deal at the club where he began his career.
The termination of his contract at Al-Hilal was considered the biggest step, according to sources close to Neymar.
It ends an injury-hit spell in Saudi Arabia, where he played just seven times for the club he joined in a £77.6m deal in August 2023.
The attacker made two appearances this season, most recently a substitute in November.
Al Hilal said: “The club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided at Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career.”
Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire also attempted to bring Neymar to the United States but he turned them down in favour of returning to Santos.
Fire had Neymar on their ‘discovery list’, meaning they were the only MLS team able to negotiate with him in the US.
Inter Miami had also been linked with reuniting Neymar with his former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Neymar remains the world’s most expensive footballer after his £200m move to Paris St-Germain in 2017.

iPhone SE 4 Rear Panel Design Spotted in Leaked Image Alongside iPhone 16
iPhone SE 4 Rear Panel Design Spotted in Leaked Image Alongside iPhone 16
iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in the coming months as the successor to Apple’s iPhone SE (2022) model, which remains the most affordable smartphone in its current lineup. The Cupertino company’s next iPhone SE model is likely to debut with some notable hardware upgrades over the third generation model, according to recent reports. Images of the purported iPhone SE 4 have been leaked by a tipster, showing us how the phone might look next to the iPhone 16.
iPhone SE 4 Design (Leaked)
Two images posted to X (formerly Twitter) by tipster @MajinBuOfficial show the iPhone SE 4 alongside the iPhone 16, which was introduced four months ago. The leaked pictures suggest that a ****** unit of the iPhone SE 4 was used, as Apple’s logo is absent at the centre of the rear panel. The smartphone’s display is not seen in the images.

Like its predecessor, it appears that the iPhone SE 4 will be equipped with a single rear camera. The second image shared by the leaker suggests that the camera bump on the iPhone SE 4 is much taller than the one on the iPhone 16. We can also see the power button on the right side of the display.
iPhone SE 4 Specifications (Expected)
According to recent reports, the iPhone SE 4 could be powered by an A18 chip, which means it might offer a considerable performance upgrade over its predecessor, which arrived with an A15 Bionic chip. It is also said to be equipped with 8GB of RAM, which suggests will offer support for Apple Intelligence features.
The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is also said to sport a larger 6.06-inch LTPS OLED screen, with a 60Hz refresh rate, which is larger than the 4.7-inch panel on the third generation model. It is also expected to feature a single rear camera, with a 48-megapixel sensor. Another report suggests that the iPhone SE 4 will be Apple’s first handset that features the company’s in-house 5G modem.

Surge in ocean heat is a sign climate change is accelerating
Surge in ocean heat is a sign climate change is accelerating
High sea temperatures contributed to stormy weather in California in late 2023
Kevin Carter/Getty Images
The surge in ocean temperatures to record-breaking levels in 2023 and 2024 is a sign that the pace of climate change has accelerated, say researchers.
Global ocean temperatures hit record highs for 450 days straight in 2023 and early 2024. Although some of the extra heat can be explained by an El Niño weather pattern emerging in the Pacific Ocean, about 44 per cent of the record warmth is down to the world’s oceans absorbing heat from the sun at an accelerating rate, according to Chris Merchant at the University of Reading, ***.
Merchant and his colleagues used satellite data to analyse ocean warming over the past four decades, concluding that the rate of warming has more than quadrupled since 1985.
The team says this rapid acceleration is down to a sharp change in Earth’s energy imbalance (EEI), a measure of how much heat is being trapped in the atmosphere. EEI has roughly doubled since 2010, causing the oceans to soak up much more heat now than they used to.
“The oceans set the pace for global warming in general,” says Merchant. “So, as an extension, global warming as a whole, including the land, has therefore accelerated.” Merchant says he is “personally convinced” that accelerating climate change was a major factor in the recent surge in ocean temperatures.
Based on their analysis, Merchant and his team predict that the rate of ocean warming could continue to increase rapidly in the coming decades. “If the EEI trend extrapolates into the future… then we can expect as much warming in the next 20 years as we have had in the last 40 years, which is quite a marked acceleration,” says Merchant.
Although climate models do expect the rate of climate change to accelerate, Merchant’s analysis suggests real-world trends are in line with the most pessimistic model predictions. “The fact that this data-driven analysis is putting us at the high end of what models might have predicted is a matter that needs to be watched,” he says.
However, early data suggests that EEI dropped in 2024 after a record spike in 2023. This data might suggest warming rates may not be accelerating in line with worst-case scenarios, some researchers argue.

Peace calls mount amid conflict in Goma
Peace calls mount amid conflict in Goma
There are growing international calls for peace talks to end the escalation of violence in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The fate of the economic and trading hub Goma is still unclear. UN officials have said the situation is chaotic with fighting continuing in parts of the city.
A Congolese government official has said the army is still in control of most of the regional capital, but M23 rebels who have attacked the city dispute that.
Reports say at least 17 people have been killed and close to 400 wounded.
On Tuesday, South Africa said that four more of its soldiers, who are in DR Congo as part of peacekeeping efforts, had died as a result of clashes with the M23.
This brings the total number of South African casualties to 13. Malawi and Uruguay have also lost peacekeepers.
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday spoke to his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame, with the two agreeing on an urgent need for ceasefire and resumption of peace taks
The African Union is also set to host an emergency meeting later on Tuesday.
Late on Monday, DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi held a meeting with leaders of some state institutions to evaluate the situation in the city.
“Our soldiers and the [pro-government militia] Wazalendo continue to hold certain positions in the city” said Vital Kamerhe, the speaker of the National Assembly after the meeting.
He said the president would address the nation later on the matter, without giving specific details.
Since Friday, Goma has been cut off from electricity and water, and Mr Kamerhe said the government was working hard to restore them to the city.
He said the government was also seeking diplomatic and political solutions to the crisis.
It came as the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the M23 attack in a call with Tshisekedi.
In a statement, the US State Department said the Congolese leader agreed on the need to restart peace talks “as soon as possible” with Rwanda, which is accused of backing the rebels.
Mr Rubio also spoke to Kenya’s President William Ruto, agreeing to push forward peace talks. A meeting called by the Kenyan leader between Tshisekedi and Kagame has been scheduled for Wednesday.
The Congolese government has also asked for another meeting of the UN Security Council – demanding that this time it take tough action against Rwanda
During an emergency UN meeting on Sunday, DR Congo demanded sanctions against Rwanda, saying its forces had crossed into its territory in what amounted to a “declaration of war”.
Following the meeting, the UN condemned M23 advances and the “ongoing flagrant disregard for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DR Congo”, including the presence of “external forces”.
Rwanda has in the past denied direct support for the M23, but the UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix has said there is no doubt its troops were supporting the rebels.

Victims’ families shocked at ‘missed’ chances to stop killer
Victims’ families shocked at ‘missed’ chances to stop killer
The families of children murdered by Southport killer Axel Rudakubana were “shocked” by how many “missed opportunities” to stop him there had been, their solicitor has said.
Sara Stranger told BBC Breakfast the parents of Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, Bebe King, six, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar were “relieved” that the criminal case was over and glad that a public inquiry would be held.
But Ms Stranger said it was clear the 18-year-old – who was jailed for 52 years on Thursday – “fell through gaps” between different agencies who might have spotted the danger he posed.
After Rudakubana pleaded guilty last Monday to murdering the girls and attempting to kill eight other children and two adults, it emerged he had had multiple referrals to the government’s anti-radicalisation programme Prevent.

New target defined at Thunderbird JV copper-silver project in Peru
New target defined at Thunderbird JV copper-silver project in Peru
Joint venture partners Firetail Resources and Thunderbird Resources are ramping up work at their Picha copper-silver project in Peru, following its recent selection in the prestigious BHP Xplor 2025 program.
Mapping, gravity surveys and a drilling program targeting large scale intrusion relation deposits are in full swing and a new target has been staked adjacent to the existing prospect.
As a 2025 BHP Xplor cohort member, the Picha project will benefit from a one-off, non-dilutive grant of up to US$500,000 (A$800,000) and Firetail will receive in-kind services, mentorship and networking opportunities with BHP and other industry experts and investors.
Thunderbird owns 30 per cent of the Picha project under the joint venture agreement.
Management’s focus has also shifted to generative exploration across the tenement package, leveraging off spectral and geochemistry data completed since 2021 with guidance from the Xplor technical team.
The BHP Xplor program was established in 2023 to support promising minerals explorers to accelerate the exploration needed to support the energy transition. Over six months ******* each year, BHP Xplor assists the development of technical, business and operational excellence within participating companies.
A new target in the northern part of the project area has been followed up with recent lithology, alteration and mineralisation mapping of the outcrops, with indications of a localised porphyry-style intrusion and associated significant scale mineralisation.
In addition to holding greenfield copper-silver territory through its 70 per cent holding in the Picha copper-silver project, Firetail holds the Charaque copper project in southern Peru.
Both the Picha and Charaque projects are hosted within the highly prospective Tertiary volcanic belt and are northwest extensions of the Tucari and Santa Rosa high sulfidation epithermal systems.
The Picha project is an underexplored copper-silver project in the Moquegua and Puno departments of southern Peru, in which the JV is generating multiple drill-ready targets. The project currently comprises 27 granted mining concessions for a total of 215 square kilometres.
Picha is within spitting distance of Buenaventura’s San Gabriel gold mine which has an indicated and inferred resource of 7.6 million ounces gold equivalent.
The project is considered highly prospective for several styles of mineralisation, including epithermal polymetallic veins, stratabound mineralisation, carbonate replacement deposits, skarns, as well as porphyry copper mineralisation
The next exploration steps include porphyry alteration mapping across known target areas, soil sampling over the new target area, geochronology and geochemistry mapping and a property-wide gravity survey to define current and further potential targets
The Peruvian project is shaping up as a significant copper-silver venture within a world-class gold-copper-silver province and the JV partners are optimistic that they have only scratched the surface at Picha.

The Sims 1 and 2 are reportedly being re-released with all expansions this week
The Sims 1 and 2 are reportedly being re-released with all expansions this week
EA is set to re-release The Sims and The Sims 2 this week as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, it’s claimed.
Citing a “source familiar with the plans”, Kotaku says the publisher will be bringing back the first two games in The Sims series by the end of January.
Earlier this month, the official X account for The Sims posted a short video showing a roadmap of events designed to celebrate The Sims’ 25th anniversary.
Listed on the roadmap is an item called “Nostalgia Now”, alongside the date January 27-31. The report claims this refers to the re-releases.
On Monday the account also posted a message saying “BRB” accompanied by an animation showing the action menu from The Sims 2, followed by the coloured square background from the box art for The Sims.
*~~BRB~~* <3 – The Sims#TheSims25 pic.twitter.com/Xt89uSaBK9
— The Sims (@TheSims) January 27, 2025
If true, the re-releases will be big news for long-time Sims fans, who have had problems running the older titles on modern PC hardware.
The original game has proved particularly tricky to play in the modern era because it was never released digitally, meaning players will have to find the original game disc from 2000, find a disc drive for their PC and search for user-created patches designed to get it running on today’s hardware.
If EA is indeed planning on re-releasing both The Sims and The Sims 2, that should make it significantly easier to install and play both games with Windows 10/11 specs and resolutions.
The report also claims that each game will come with all of their original expansion packs included, but it’s not clear if this also includes previously licensed packs such as the H&M Fashion Stuff and IKEA Home Stuff packs released for The Sims 2.

What are moon signs? Why astrologers think they’re just as important as sun signs
What are moon signs? Why astrologers think they’re just as important as sun signs
When it comes to astrology, sun signs are often the first thing people learn about themselves. But moon signs might be even more important when it comes to understanding an astrological profile.
Within astrology, the moon governs our emotions, intuition, memories, relationship with the maternal influence in our lives and how we nurture ourselves. The moon sign is said to govern how we give and receive love, too.
To hear to your moon sign, get quiet. The moon represents the part of ourselves that we cannot vocalize or express but feel intensely within ourselves. It is, in short, representative of our unvoiced inner landscape.
Our moon signs can often lead to a distance between how we outwardly present and how we feel on the inside. For example, if you have a Virgo sun sign, you may find security in creating meticulous systems. But if you pair that with a Sagittarius moon sign, then there is a part of your spirit who wants to be wild, free and untamed.
You can find your moon sign here and the daily lunar calendar here.
More about astrologyHow many moon signs are there?
The moon falls in 12 zodiac signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, *******, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
How often does the moon change signs?
The moon changes signs every two and a half days, and goes through all 12 signs in about a 30 day *******.
What does your moon sign mean?
Read on for interpretations of all 12 moon signs.
Aries moon sign meaning
The passionate moon in Aries is proactive, aggressive and known for having a temper. Never one to take the *********, people born with moon in Aries fight for their beliefs and desires until they’re attained. Aries moon natives persevere until they make headway or become bored — then they’re onto the next thing. Natives of this fiery moon will learn to cultivate patience and curb their impulsivity.
Taurus moon sign meaning

Temenos AG (VTX:TEMN) institutional owners may be pleased with recent gains after 12% loss over the past year
Temenos AG (VTX:TEMN) institutional owners may be pleased with recent gains after 12% loss over the past year
Significantly high institutional ownership implies Temenos’ stock price is sensitive to their trading actions
53% of the business is held by the top 6 shareholders
22% of Temenos is held by insiders
To get a sense of who is truly in control of Temenos AG (VTX:TEMN), it is important to understand the ownership structure of the business. And the group that holds the biggest piece of the pie are institutions with 60% ownership. That is, the group stands to benefit the most if the stock rises (or lose the most if there is a downturn).
Last week’s CHF234m market cap gain would probably be appreciated by institutional investors, especially after a year of 12% losses.
Let’s delve deeper into each type of owner of Temenos, beginning with the chart below.
See our latest analysis for Temenos
SWX:TEMN Ownership Breakdown January 28th 2025
Institutional investors commonly compare their own returns to the returns of a commonly followed index. So they generally do consider buying larger companies that are included in the relevant benchmark index.
Temenos already has institutions on the share registry. Indeed, they own a respectable stake in the company. This can indicate that the company has a certain degree of credibility in the investment community. However, it is best to be wary of relying on the supposed validation that comes with institutional investors. They too, get it wrong sometimes. If multiple institutions change their view on a stock at the same time, you could see the share price drop fast. It’s therefore worth looking at Temenos’ earnings history below. Of course, the future is what really matters.
SWX:TEMN Earnings and Revenue Growth January 28th 2025
Since institutional investors own more than half the issued stock, the board will likely have to pay attention to their preferences. Temenos is not owned by hedge funds. Our data shows that BNP Paribas, Private & Investment Banking Investments is the largest shareholder with 14% of shares outstanding. Meanwhile, the second and third largest shareholders, hold 13% and 8.0%, of the shares outstanding, respectively.
On further inspection, we found that more than half the company’s shares are owned by the top 6 shareholders, suggesting that the interests of the larger shareholders are balanced out to an extent by the smaller ones.
While studying institutional ownership for a company can add value to your research, it is also a good practice to research analyst recommendations to get a deeper understand of a stock’s expected performance. Quite a few analysts cover the stock, so you could look into forecast growth quite easily.
Story Continues
The definition of company insiders can be subjective and does vary between jurisdictions. Our data reflects individual insiders, capturing board members at the very least. Management ultimately answers to the board. However, it is not uncommon for managers to be executive board members, especially if they are a founder or the CEO.
I generally consider insider ownership to be a good thing. However, on some occasions it makes it more difficult for other shareholders to hold the board accountable for decisions.
It seems insiders own a significant proportion of Temenos AG. It is very interesting to see that insiders have a meaningful CHF1.2b stake in this CHF5.6b business. It is good to see this level of investment. You can check here to see if those insiders have been buying recently.
The general public, who are usually individual investors, hold a 18% stake in Temenos. This size of ownership, while considerable, may not be enough to change company policy if the decision is not in sync with other large shareholders.
While it is well worth considering the different groups that own a company, there are other factors that are even more important. To that end, you should be aware of the 1 warning sign we’ve spotted with Temenos .
Ultimately the future is most important. You can access this free report on analyst forecasts for the company.
