Andrew’s aide told alleged spy Newsnight interview was a disaster
A senior aide to Prince Andrew privately admitted to an alleged ******** spy that the duke’s BBC Newsnight interview had been a disaster, court documents show.
Files disclosed to the BBC and other media organisations reveal how the prince’s aide Dominic Hampshire thanked Yang Tengbo for standing by the embattled duke in the months after he had sought to explain on TV his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
He told the ******** businessman that the Newsnight appearance had been “hugely ill-advised and unsuccessful”.
Last month a court rejected Mr Yang’s appeal against being banned from the ***, after an intelligence assessment that he could be secretly working for the ******** state. Mr Yang has denied all wrongdoing.

Scrivener battles in Bahrain as England’s Tarren leads
Scrivener battles in Bahrain as England’s Tarren leads
England’s Callum Tarren holds a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Bahrain Championship, with leading *********** Jason Scrivener eight shots off the pace.
Tarren was two over par for the first four holes of his second round at Royal Golf Club on Friday, but birdied four of the next five holes and picked up three more shots on the back nine.
The resulting 67 took the world No.502 to 13 under, two shots clear of compatriot Dan Brown and Italy’s Andrea Pavan, with Spain’s Pablo Larrazabal another stroke back following a 68 which included a hole-in-one.
“I got off to a shaky start today but I knew I was playing good golf so I just stayed patient,” Tarren said.
“I misjudged the wind on one, got it riding the wind and hit it up against the fence.
“I could hit it but it was against a rock so didn’t want to risk that. I just said, ‘ride this tough start, plenty of chances out there’ and I managed to capitalise on a few good shots.
“There were a couple in the middle of the round where I hit it to two feet and a foot with nine iron and a wedge. Shame about the last [a missed birdie chance from seven feet] but I’m ready to tackle the weekend.
“I’ve got to keep the foot to the floor because the course will yield birdies to the guys behind me. I feel very relaxed this week for some reason, I don’t know why. I just feel super chilled, so hopefully that’s a good omen.”
Larrazabal made the sixth ace of his career on the second hole, his 11th of the day, as he bids to win a 10th European tour title.
“I had 164 metres straight into the wind,” Larrazabal said. “Normally I hit 177 with a six iron so we played a three-quarters, punching six iron and it never left the flag.
“It’s great to suddenly see the ball going in.”
Overnight leader Brandon Robinson-Thompson, who threatened to card the second 59 in European tour history on his way to an opening 61, struggled to a second round of 74 to fall five shots off the lead.
Scrivener, who recovered from a couple of early bogeys to shoot a second-round 70 to go with his opening 69, is on five under for the tournament while compatriot David Micheluzzi just made the cut on two under after a 73.

Apple has stayed above the tech volatility fray. An options bet if that changes
Apple has stayed above the tech volatility fray. An options bet if that changes
Shares of Apple (AAPL) were on the rise after the iPhone maker forecast strong sales growth for the current quarter. Apple was unloved and arguably fell out of favor in 2024 as AI darling Nvidia overtook the favorite tech stock crown. As this week’s big tech earnings have been quite bifurcated (Microsoft lower, Meta to new highs), I believe more volatility and revaluation will transpire within the ‘Magnificent 7’ stocks. This continued tech sector volatility should allow an investor to create an opportunity (using options) for the former heavyweight champion in Apple. AAPL 1Y mountain Apple, 1 year Apple is often praised for its design and user experience, yet investors have become lukewarm in recent quarter as Apple has approached AI capital expenditures much more cautiously than peers such as Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta. That prudence paid off earlier this week when China’s DeepSeek unveiled its free AI open-source technology. DeepSeek rattled chipmaker investors of imminent price wars, crushing stocks of some of Apple’s competitors and pushed the iPhone maker slightly back in favor. The limitless AI euphoria has arguably turned into mania after CNBC confirmed that OpenAI is in talks to raise up to $40 billion in a funding round that would lift the artificial intelligence company’s valuation to as high as $340 billion. For context, this report comes just three months after SoftBank backed a $6.6 billion funding round for OpenAI at a $157 billion valuation. Bubbles can last longer than anticipated, but I believe the AI spend by companies has crossed into a dangerous territory and the ROI on these investments become more challenging as the CapEx grows. Apple is on track in 2025 to spend $1 billion on generative AI. Zuckerberg has suggested that META will spend $65 billion on AI in 2025. I want to use Apple technicals to take advantage and capture tech volatility. I want to use a ratio put spread anticipating a move lower in Apple. This put spread consists of buying a higher strike put, but selling two lower strike puts to finance the more expensive (higher strike) put. In the event the price of Apple goes lower than where I sold twice as many puts, I am happy to own the tech giant. The Trade Bought one 2/21/2025 $240 put for $2.75 Sold two 2/21/2025 $230 puts for $ 1.00 This 1×2 debit spread cost an investor $0.75 or $75 per 1×2 put spread AAPL was trading around $246 upon time of execution DISCLOSURES: (Kilburg is long this spread.) Why this 50-year old restaurant chain has a stock that’s smoking Nvidia’s
Why this 50-year old restaurant chain has a stock that’s smoking Nvidia’s
Listen and subscribe to Opening Bid on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you find your favorite podcasts.
Brinker International (EAT) CEO Kevin Hochman won’t agree with me to put an item called Nvidia (NVDA) chips and guac on the menu — but maybe he should.
The former KFC marketing ***** is leading one of the hottest restaurant chains on the planet in Chili’s, an old school sit-down eatery that was born in 1975. It’s long claim to fame has been saucy ribs, sizzling fajitas, and gigantic burger patties — hardly revolutionary stuff.
“Of course I have been surprised [by the results],” Hochman told me on Yahoo Finance’s Opening Bid podcast (video above; listen in below). “I knew we were doing the right things and I knew over time we would get better and get stronger and get good results.”
This embedded content is not available in your region.
Brinker’s stock has served up a savory 348% gain over the past year, outperforming Nvidia’s meager 99% advance. The stock price has also outperformed every other major restaurant chain.
Yahoo Finance data shows Brinker now sports a market cap of $8.1 billion, lightyears ahead of the paltry $468 million afforded struggling Dine Brands (DIN) — its long-time rival that operates Applebee’s and IHOP.
How great has the performance of the 1,500 locations chain been? Pretty damn great, considering sit down restaurants are battling mobile ordering, salad-loving 20 somethings, Ozempic shots, higher costs for labor and food, and perhaps a dozen other headwinds.
Chili’s same store sales exploded 31.4% year over year in the most recent quarter. The gain was propped up by an eye-opening 19.9% increase in customer visits.
The results come following a series of double-digit quarterly sales gains for Chili’s.
Hochman credits a few items for the chain’s comeback.
First, a steady stream of value marketing to a customer base that often views eating out as a weekly or monthly luxury. And two, investments in higher quality food. Hochman has swapped chicken trimmings in some items for “whole lobe” chicken. Bacon is coming out of the kitchen crispier. Guacamole is being made fresh daily instead of using “day two” guac.
“The flywheel of better food, service, atmosphere, and marketing translating into sales is in full effect, with Chili’s posting comp growth we’ve never seen from a mature brand (ex-COVID). There’s little evidence to suggest this strength should fade with management pointing to sales momentum carrying into fiscal third quarter, a pipeline of new product news and store-level initiatives (oven replacement, remodels) providing duration to the sales story,” Citi restaurant analyst Jon Tower said in a client note.
Story Continues
Hochman also didn’t bite on a suggestion to put DeepSeek Dippers on the menu, but has other things in the works to keep the sales momentum going.
He tells Yahoo Finance a reinvention of Chili’s ribs to include more smoke and better sauce will drop soon. Fajitas will get softer shells (Hochman says his team has been working to reboot fajitas for two years).
A new surprise menu item is coming, too (the Street thinks it’s a chicken sandwich — Hochman declined to comment). And Turbochef ovens in the back of the house to replace tired old conveyor belt cookers (should help get the food out quicker) are being installed.
“So the key question for our team is what’s the next three years of the turnaround? And I would tell you there is way more changes ahead of us than we’ve actually completed,” Hochman says.
Three times each week, I field insight-filled conversations and chats with the biggest names in business and markets on Opening Bid. You can find more episodes on our video hub or watch on your preferred streaming service.

All Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage Workbenches in Sniper Elite Resistance
All Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage Workbenches in Sniper Elite Resistance
Sonderzüge Sabotage ramps up the difficulty in Resistance. There are enemy snipers everywhere, a multi-floor hotel crawling with Germans, and Sniper Elite Resistance’s Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage has a tough Workbench (or three) for Harry to locate.
Sniper Elite Resistance‘s main levels have three Workbenches each. They can be up high or down below, you never know! They’re trapped behind locked doors and situated on crowded floors. But seeking them out is a delight, even if a waiting Nazi is destined to give you a fright.
But enough with the rhyming, Sonderzüge Sabotage awaits. Below is a detailed guide showing you the mission’s Workbench locations and how to get there. Furthermore, check out how to find clues for the Superweapon in Sonderzüge Sabotage, if you’re struggling.
Every Workbench Location in Sniper Elite Resistance Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage
Keep referring back to this. Image by Insider Gaming
The screenshot above shows three circled symbols representing Sonderzüge Sabotage’s Workbenches.
They’re evenly distributed throughout the level, and looking at the location doesn’t always tell the story. Use each one as guidance if you’re off to find them yourself. If you want more granularity and detail, read on for complete guidance.
Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage Workbench Location 1
Screenshot One. Image by Insider Gaming
Start the level, go down the stairs, and head left along the path that dissects the grass. Head to the nearest Workbench symbol on the map we showed you under the “Every Workbench Location in Sniper Elite Resistance Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage” section.
The Workbench is behind a locked door on the ground floor. Unless you’re already there, you probably need to go down some stairs to reach the ground. You’re in the right location if you can see a bike propped up against the wall, an enemy alarm, and a small statue surrounded by benches.
Screenshot One shows a locked door, and the Workbench is behind this. To the left of the door is a stack of boxes with Bolt Cutters resting against them. Use them to access the door quicker.
Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage Workbench Location 2
Screenshot Two. Image by Insider Gaming
From Location 1, I recommend getting back onto the main road, going across the main bridge on the left (not the railway bridge on the right), and reaching the other side. Do this, reach the first intersection, and head down the road until you a barbed wire enclosure. Past it on the right is a set of stone stairs—go down them.
Carry on to the pier, turn right, and the Workbench is in an open building and you can’t miss it.
Mission 3 Sonderzüge Sabotage Workbench Location 3
Screenshot Three. Image by Insider Gaming
Exit the building, go back up the stairs, head back out onto the main road, and head toward the railway bridge in the distance. Turn left at the red and white road barriers, and go right of the first sandbags you come to. There’s a long alley you can head down. Go to the very end, turn right at the white sheet covering, go up the stairs, and open the locked gate.
Carry on in a straight line against the wall with the road slightly leveling out as you go. Do a complete u-turn around the sandbags and spotlight and go past the red and white “HALT” barrier. Go into the building with white windows on the left and break open the locked door guarding the stairs. Ascend those very stairs and the Workbench is in the room at the top.
Check out our Mission 1 Workbench and Mission 2 Workbench guides if you haven’t done them already. We also have a full walkthrough to find every Propaganda Poster.

What is Cryptology? | Definition from TechTarget
What is Cryptology? | Definition from TechTarget
Cryptology is the mathematics, such as number theory and the application of formulas and algorithms, that underpin cryptography and cryptanalysis. Cryptanalysis concepts are highly specialized and complex, so this definition concentrates on some of the key mathematical concepts behind cryptography, as well as modern examples of its use.
Basics of cryptology
The terms cryptology and cryptography are often confused or used synonymously, but they are not the same. Cryptology is a broad area that includes cryptography and cryptanalysis. It is derived from two Greek words: kryptós meaning hidden and lógos meaning word.
Cryptography is about creating rules and regulations — algorithms, protocols and so on — that are then used to secure data from unauthorized or malicious access. Cryptanalysis is about using methods to break cryptographic security systems in order to recover encrypted messages without knowing the decryption key. Since cryptology incorporates concepts of both cryptography and cryptanalysis, it is a superset of those technologies.
The process of cryptography starts with data in readable plaintext form that is converted to ciphertext and, ultimately, back to plaintext.
Cryptology is about the scientific study of secure communications and using mathematical equations, frameworks and calculations to create strong security systems that can store data in secure, encrypted (secret) form. For data to be secured for storage or transmission, it must be transformed in such a manner that it is difficult for an unauthorized individual to discover its true meaning. To achieve that, security systems and software use certain mathematical equations that are difficult to solve unless strict criteria are met. The level of difficulty of solving a given equation is known as its intractability. The equations form the basis of cryptography.
Types of cryptology equations
Some of the most important equations used in cryptology are the following.
Discrete logarithm problem
The discrete logarithm problem (DLP) is one of the cornerstones of the fields of cryptology and cryptography. It is described using a finite cyclic group G with a generator g (primitive root modulo p); an element h, where h is an element in the group G and generated by g; and a prime number P, a number that is only divisible by 1 and by itself, and it is concerned with finding an integer x to satisfy the following formula:
gx = h (mod P)
Simply put, the goal of DLP is to determine the exponent x given a base g, a result h and the modulo P.
The best way to describe DLP is first to show how its inverse concept works. Assume there is a prime number P that is a large prime number of over 300 digits, plus two other integers, a and b. Now, to find the value of N, use the following formula:
N = ab mod P, where 0 ≤ N ≤ (P · 1)
This is known as discrete exponentiation and is quite simple to compute. However, the opposite is true when inverted. Given P, a and N and a requirement to find b so that the equation is valid, then there is a tremendous level of difficulty. This problem forms the basis for a number of public key infrastructure (PKI) algorithms, such as Diffie-Hellman and ElGamal, which is why DLP is considered important in cryptology.
Integer factorization problem
The integer factorization problem is concerned with finding the prime factors of a large composite number. For example, take two prime numbers, P2 and P1, which are both large — a relative term, the definition of which continues to move forward as computing power increases. Multiply these two primes to produce the product, N.
Thus, the simple formula for the problem is the following:
P1 · P2 = N
The difficulty arises in, given N, trying to find the original P1 and P2.
To simplify matters to a great degree, the N product is the public key, and the P1 and P2 numbers are, together, the private key.
The Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) PKI encryption protocol is one of the many algorithms based on this problem.
The problem is important for RSA and for other cryptosystems because of the following:
It assumes that factoring large numbers is computationally infeasible.
If it can be shown that someone can perform the factoring efficiently, then it can be demonstrated that RSA encryption is insecure.
Other cryptographic algorithms also use the integer factorization problem. Examples include Pollard’s rho algorithm, a special-purpose factorization algorithm and Dixon’s factorization method, which is a general-purpose integer factorization algorithm.
Elliptic-curve discrete logarithm problem
The elliptic-curve DLP (ECDLP) is a cryptographic protocol based upon a reasonably well-known mathematical problem. It is concerned with reversing scalar multiplication on an elliptic curve E, given a base point P on the curve and an integer k. Another point Q on the curve is the result of multiplying P and k using the curve’s point addition operation.
First, imagine a huge piece of paper, on which is printed a series of vertical and horizontal lines. Each line represents an integer, with the vertical lines forming x-class components and horizontal lines forming the y-class components. The intersection of a horizontal and vertical line gives a set of coordinates (x,y). In the highly simplified example below, there is an elliptic curve that is defined by the following equation:
y2 + y = x3 · x2
For the above equation, given a definable operator, it is possible to determine any third point on the curve given any two other points. This definable operator forms a group of finite length. To add two points on an elliptic curve, first understand that any straight line that passes through this curve intersects it at precisely three points.
If two of these points are defined as u and v, then draw a straight line through these points to find another intersecting point at w. Then, draw a vertical line through w to find the final intersecting point at x. Now, u + v = x. This rule works for defining another imaginary point, the origin, or O, which exists at theoretically extreme points on the curve. The problem appears to be quite intractable, requiring a shorter key length — thus, enabling quicker processing time — for equivalent security levels as compared to the integer factorization problem and DLP.
Mathematicians have studied the properties of elliptic curves for centuries but only began applying them to the field of cryptography with the development of widespread computerized encryption in the 1970s. Today, ECDLP is widely considered the mathematical foundation for the security of elliptic curve cryptography.
Elements of modern cryptology
Today, researchers use cryptology as the basis for encryption in cybersecurity products and systems that protect data and communications. Some of the key elements of cryptology are the following.
Symmetric key cryptography
Symmetric key cryptography, sometimes referred to as secret key cryptography, uses the same key to encrypt and decrypt data. Encryption and decryption are inverse operations, meaning the same key can be used for both steps, i.e., to scramble data to make it unreadable and also to unscramble it and make it readable. Symmetric key cryptography’s most common form is a shared secret system, in which two parties have a shared piece of information, such as a password or passphrase, that they use as a key to encrypt and decrypt information to send to each other.
The steps in symmetric and asymmetric encryption are similar, but the use of public or private keys differs.
Public key cryptography
Public key cryptography, also known as asymmetric cryptography, is a cryptographic approach that involves two separate keys: one private and one public. While both keys are mathematically related to one another, they serve different purposes. The public key, which is not secret, is used by the sender to encrypt the message. The only person who can decrypt the message is the person holding the secret private key, i.e., the authorized recipient. Since the private key is needed to decrypt the message that was originally encrypted with the public key, public key cryptography provides a secure method for communication.
One well-known application of public key cryptography is for digital signatures, which enable users to prove the authenticity of digital messages and documents and make it possible to establish secure communications even over insecure channels.
Cryptanalysis
Cryptanalysis is the practice of analyzing cryptographic systems in order to find flaws and vulnerabilities in them and then use those findings to strengthen the systems. Essentially, cryptanalysis is like penetration testing for cryptographic systems.
For example, cryptanalysts attempt to decrypt ciphertext without knowledge of the encryption key or algorithm used for encryption. They then use their research results to help to improve and strengthen or replace flawed algorithms.
Threat actors also use cryptanalysis methods to break ciphers or cryptographically secured communications. They may use various methods to do this, including the following:
Known-plaintext analysis, where some known plaintext-ciphertext pairs are mapped to find the encryption key.
Chosen-plaintext analysis, where the encryption key is determined by obtaining the ciphertext for some random plaintext.
Man-in-the-middle attacks, where they try to intercept the key by eavesdropping on the communicating parties.
Cryptographic primitives
A cryptographic primitive is a basic cryptographic technique, such as a cipher or hash function, used to construct subsequent cryptographic protocols. Many cryptographic protocols begin by using some basic cryptographic primitives to construct a cryptographic system that is more efficient and more secure and provides stronger data authentication, confidentiality or integrity.
Cryptosystems
Cryptosystems are systems used to encode and decode sensitive information, such as personal or financial data, sent over insecure networks. They incorporate separate algorithms for key generation, encryption and decryption in order to keep data secure. The basic principle of a cryptosystem is the use of ciphertext to transform data held in plaintext into an encrypted message.
How is cryptology used in real life?
One of the most well-known applications of cryptology, specifically cryptography, is data protection. Cryptographic algorithms provide the means to encrypt sensitive data and to maintain its integrity and secrecy. These algorithms are frequently used to encrypt individual files and even larger storage volumes to safeguard the information contained in them from unauthorized access and potentially malicious interception.
Some common use cases of cryptology for data security and/or for maintaining secrecy are the following:
Electronic banking.
Other financial transactions, e.g., ATMs and smart credit cards.
E-commerce.
Medical databases.
Legal databases.
Diplomatic communications.
Military communications.
Cryptography is also used to create digital signatures that help to verify the authenticity of information sent and received over a digital communication network. Once a document is digitally signed, its recipients can use the sender’s public key to verify that the sender is who they are — their authenticity — and also to confirm that the information in that document was not illegally modified during its transmission. Digital signatures also facilitate nonrepudiation, meaning a sender cannot deny the validity of a sent message or deny that they sent it. That is an important concept for verifying and ensuring lawfully binding documentation, e.g., contracts.
Another important application of cryptology is in national security. Numerous governments use cryptology to intercept and study electronic signals, also known as signals intelligence. By monitoring foreign electronic traffic, government agencies are able to gain insights into the capabilities, actions and intentions of foreign nations, including their adversaries. This information guides their efforts to ensure the confidentiality, availability, integrity, authentication and nonrepudiation of the telecommunications and information systems vital to national security.
Further explore the differences between symmetric vs. asymmetric encryption, including how they work and common algorithms, as well as their pluses and minuses.

Is Chancellor Rachel Reeves abandoning north-east England?
Is Chancellor Rachel Reeves abandoning north-east England?
LDRS/Reuters
The closed Gateshead flyover stands as an example of immediate infrastructure support the north-east of England needs
As I listened to coverage of Chancellor Rachel Reeves announcing her backing for airport expansion and a *** Silicon Valley in the south-east of England, I was driving through crumbling northern infrastructure.
First up, a coned-off flyover in Gateshead.
This crucial section of the A167 was shut last year after its 1960s concrete proved so corroded it was in danger of imminent collapse.
It was so bad that, for a time, Tyne and Wear Metro trains had to stop running underneath it, causing chaos for commuters and Christmas shoppers.
Talks have opened with the government for help toward its demolition and replacement, but so far no money has been forthcoming.
Once past that obstacle, you come to the iconic Tyne Bridge. Except, it looks less than lovely at the moment.
Funding for repairs to the Tyne Bridge remains unconfirmed
It is shrouded in scaffolding while the neglected, rusting hulk is gradually restored.
Work will take years and has slowed traffic to a crawl.
Before last July’s election, money had been promised (though not actually paid out) by the Conservatives to fund its revitalisation, but now the people of the North East are waiting to see whether that pledge will be honoured by Labour.
If you add in Labour’s decision to abandon plans to upgrade part of the A1 in Northumberland to dual carriageway, you can forgive the region for casting a rather envious glance at Rachel Reeves’ push for growth in the south.
Never mind a third runway, we wouldn’t mind having a functioning flyover.
Used to disappointment
So not, perhaps, what voters who backed Reeves’ party in 26 of the region’s 27 constituencies last year might have hoped for.
Not that there is much hankering for the “halcyon” days of Tory levelling up.
A failure to convince voters that idea was much more than sloganeering was a significant part of why the Conservatives lost big.
Northerners are used to disappointment, but have we really been abandoned again in favour of the apparently easier growth hits available in the South?
Odd as it seems, Heathrow expansion at least could offer benefits.
Newcastle has a daily link to the airport and, so it’s argued, can enjoy some collateral boost.
And when it was last proposed, the new runway was set to offer a service between Teesside Airport and London.
The chancellor has also talked about the role Teesside can play in manufacturing the new sustainable aviation fuels that will be needed to make the case for airport expansion.
Getty / Jeff Overs / BBC
Elected Mayors Kim McGuinness and Ben Houchen have increased powers
When I have interviewed Reeves on her recent visits to the region, it is the passing of powers and funding to Conservative Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen and Labour’s North East Mayor Kim McGuinness that she has sold as key to growth here.
But will all that really transform the fortunes of England’s poorest region and close the longstanding performance gap with the South?
That seems like a leap.
What Rachel Reeves’ speech demonstrated is that big infrastructure improvement requires government action.
The North still has no recent investment to compare to the billions put into London’s Elizabeth Line, and expecting southern success to trickle up the country has not worked for more than a century now.
This was, though, one speech on one day, for a Chancellor that still has a few years to prove northern voters were right to back her party.
But Labour know they can no longer take the people of the North East for granted.
The Conservative’s temporary success of 2019 here proved that, while the rise of Reform *** poses a new threat.
The “Red Wall” of Labour MPs might have been rebuilt last July, but the party will need to keep a firm eye on its shallow foundations to avoid the brickwork crumbling as badly as that Gateshead flyover.

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles Review – Nostalgia Meets Frustration – MonsterVine
Well, what can I say about Star Wars Episode 1 Jedi Power Battles? The title says it all. I am completely conflicted. On one hand, it’s a game I played for 29 hours and managed to get the PlayStation Platinum which means for me it was pretty good. On the other hand, it is a broken mess of a game that had me wanting to tear my hair out at multiple points in the experience.

The late writer and filmmaker Nora Ephron famously felt bad about her neck. Ephron’s concern, as expressed in her best-known essay I Feel Bad About My Neck, was ageing, and the neck in particular as a “dead give-away” of the passage of time. The visibility of the area and “the truth” it exposed was cause, for Ephron, to cover up with turtlenecks and scarves.

Aussie Birrell bows out in Singapore Open quarter-final

The *********** No.1 succumbed 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2) to the US world No.85 after a tight one hour 48-minute battle at the Kallang Tennis Hub on Friday, ending her hopes of reaching a second WTA final.
The consolation for the 26-year-old Gold Coast player, who was finalist in the Japan Open last year, was that she’ll soar to a new career-high ranking next week, likely rising 10 places to No.85 in the world.
Birrell is currently the only *********** woman in the top-100, with teenager May Joint in line to move up to 101 next week and Olivia Gadecki to 102 after their earlier exits in Singapore.
Birrrell, who’d come back from 2-5 down in the deciding set to beat another American Hailey Baptiste in her previous match, again showed her fighting spirit as she fought from 5-3 down in the opening set to force a breaker, only for Li to dominate.
With Li serving for the match at 5-4 in the second, Birrell again broke back only for the American to prove the stronger again in the second tiebreak as she set up a semi-final with Russian top seed Anna Kalinskaya, who defeated Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-3 4-6 6-0 in her quarter.
Birrell was Li’s second *********** victim of the week after she had disposed of Daria Saville in the first round.

Popular Call Of Duty: Warzone Guns Are Getting Changes Next Week
Season 2 is live in Call of Duty: Warzone, and the big update added new DLC weapons and some gun balancing. However, Raven Software has revealed that even more weapon changes are planned for next week, which includes updates to two popular guns.
Despite three new guns arriving with Season 2, Warzone’s weapon meta didn’t shift a whole lot. The developer has since posted on Twitter/X to announce that weapon adjustments for the XM4 assault rifle and PPSh-41 submachine gun will arrive early next week.

Presumably, the XM4 will receive another nerf. The XM4 assault rifle has been a top choice since ****** Ops 6’s integration into Warzone, and even Season 2’s initial nerf to the gun’s damage range wasn’t enough to get players to switch.
Season 2’s Cypher 091 assault rifle is a strong contender for battle royale, but it’s not quite an easy-to-use laser beam like the XM4. Another XM4 nerf could potentially address the gun’s handling and recoil, making the Cypher 091 a more competitive option for long-range fights in battle royale.
The PPSh-41 has been a popular weapon choice in past Call of Duty titles, but the submachine gun is currently underperforming since arriving with the Season 2 update. As of right now, the C9 submachine gun is the most popular option for close-range combat, so it’s possible the season’s new submachine gun could receive buffs to make it more viable for battle royale.
Of course, we won’t know the exact changes until the developer releases the patch notes. To see what recently changed, check out the Season 2 patch notes for ****** Ops 6 and Warzone.
In other Call of Duty news, leakers suggest a TMNT crossover could arrive later in the season. Season 2 currently features a battle pass of ninja-like operators, and the midseason update is set to introduce unannounced melee weapons and a skatepark map.

Why Did It Happen? Key Detail Revealed as DC ****** Investigators Seek Answers
Why Did It Happen? Key Detail Revealed as DC ****** Investigators Seek Answers
In the icy waters of the Potomac River, divers have recovered most of the dead from the wreckage of an American Airlines jet and Army helicopter that collided Wednesday, killing all 67 people.
Investigators are trying to learn why the Army Blackhawk helicopter apparently deviated from its approved flight path before the deadly ******, flying at nearly 350 feet when it should have been flying under 200 feet.
Friday morning, President Trump revealed in a post on Truth Social, “The Blackhawk helicopter was flying too high, by a lot. It was far above the 200 foot limit. That’s not really too complicated to understand, is it???”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters on Thursday, “The military does dangerous things. It does routine things on the regular basis. Tragically, last night, a mistake was made. There was some, some sort of an elevation issue that we have immediately begun investigating.” Some experts believe neither the jet or the helicopter saw each other, calling it a “tragic sequence of events.” A helicopter pilot can be heard acknowledging the plane. Some experts think it was the wrong plane.
Understaffed in a Complex Airspace
The Federal Aviation Administration is also reporting the air traffic controller on duty was handling two different positions instead of one.
The National Transportation Safety Board has recovered the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder and is examining them.
Pilots have long worried that DC’s complex airspace could be a disaster waiting to happen, as retired Navy captain and former Navy helicopter pilot Todd Flannery explained on CBN’s Faith Nation.
“It’s just the density of the air traffic that’s here,” Flannery said, “making it a really difficult area to…I shouldn’t say difficult, just a very challenging area to operate where you always have to be paying attention to radio calls and be ready to maneuver your aircraft as directed by air traffic control.”
Victims Being Identified
U.S. Figure Skating says 14 athletes, including some of the “rising stars” of the sport were on the plane, alongside their coaches and family members.
Sixteen-year-old Spencer Lane was one of those skaters, traveling with his mom when the plane crashed. Lane’s dad Doug says he didn’t know there was a problem until he saw the notification. “I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’ And my heart just started, like, exploding out of my chest. And I just started scrambling from there.”
Also killed were 12-year-old skater and ******* survivor Brielle Beyer with her mom Justyna. Dad Andy Beyer said of Brielle, “She just, she was just such a fighter in everything she did. And she just lived life to the fullest with everything. They were gone for six days before this happened. And, you know, I really miss them. I live my life for my family.”
Other victims included: Kiah Duggins who had been visiting her mom in her hometown of Wichita; Grace Maxwell, a junior at Cedarville University in Ohio, on her way back to school; Elizabeth Keys, who was traveling on her birthday; youth ice dance partners Angela Yang and Sean Kay; Roger and Stephanie Haynos and skater son Cory; and Russian figure skating coaches and former world champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.
With the American Airlines plane having come from Wichita, Pastor Jon Morris at Vima Church in that city tells CBN News local residents are shocked and grieving. “It’s just these kinds of things you never expected,” Morris said. “It’s always someone else, but then, when it’s you, it kind of just shakes you. I think a great prayer to pray is, ‘God, do what you can do. There’s things that I can’t do, but Holy Spirit, would you move? Would you bring comfort? Would you bring peace that goes beyond understanding? Would you move in a powerful way?'”

One Key Gameplay Feature in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Wouldn’t Have Been Possible Without New Gen Consoles
One Key Gameplay Feature in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Wouldn’t Have Been Possible Without New Gen Consoles
The latest game in Ubisoft’s massive Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, takes players to the war-torn, medieval Japan of the Warring States era. Players take control of two primary characters, the shinobi Naoe and the samurai Yasuke, in an effort to bring justice to people whose lives have been affected by the continuous strife and battle.

Despite all the hype, the initial path of the game was quite troublesome. First, the game got delayed and then faced huge criticism for including a ****** samurai in a Japanese setting. However, the gameplay is not going to disappoint at all as Ubisoft has included a franchise-first feature which is going to make the experience more immersive, thanks to the newer gen consoles.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature in-game “season changes”
Seasons will dynamically change in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. | Credit: Ubisoft.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to feature a lot of new aspects that fans haven’t seen in the franchise before, like customizable hideouts, having two playable characters with varying combat styles, the choice of killing or letting go of the antagonist and the surfaces which none of the new protagonists can climb.
However, the most exciting addition to the game has to be the seasonal changes. Yes, the gameplay is going to be heavily impacted by the in-game seasonal changes. But this wouldn’t have been possible if Ubisoft didn’t opt for newer-gen consoles, according to Jonathan Dumont, the creative director of the game (via Game Rant):
For Shadows, we really wanted a world that felt more alive, which led to the seasons. Japan, as a setting, has four distinct seasons. In Japan, these seasons are more important for people than a lot of places. Some festivals are linked to them and everything, so that felt like a great excuse to do it and the technology was there as well. We were at the point, with this new generation of consoles, that we were able to do a little bit more with that. That’s what we are going for there: an open world that is less of a postcard and more of a dynamic representation.
Now it makes quite a lot of sense why it took so long for Ubisoft to explore the game’s Japanese setting and why Shadows will be only released on next-gen consoles.
Shadows is the first Assassin’s Creed game to run only the PS5 and Xbox Series X, completely ditching previous generation systems like PS4 or the Xbox One. Since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla came out in late 2020 alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it straddled the console generation divide, but Shadows did not.
How are the dynamic seasons going to impact the overall gameplay experience?
Changing seasons will affect the combat a lot. | Credit: Ubisoft.
Shadows will progress through Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter as players spend time exploring the open world of Japan in 1579 and advancing through the campaign. Each season brings with it unique weather conditions that will present new challenges and give the environment you explore a sense of realism. In an interview with IGN, this is what Dumont told about this changing weather system:
Players will have to adapt constantly to what the environment is giving them.
The producer Karl Onnée adds that in the summer, players can hide from enemies by crawling under a body of water or assuming a prone position, but in the winter, the water will be frozen over. Similarly, bushes will turn leafy and grass will grow tall in the spring, enabling players to hide from enemies on patrol, but they will bare and wither away in the winter.
Icicles may break and fall while you’re scaling rooftops, giving enemies a glimpse of where you are, but strong winds will conceal your movements. When it’s old, guards will also stay in warmer spots, so players must modify their routes to avoid the weather.
Let’s see how the changing season system in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to affect the gameplay on March 20, 2025.

WhatsApp says journalists and civil society members were targets of Israeli spyware | WhatsApp
WhatsApp says journalists and civil society members were targets of Israeli spyware | WhatsApp
Nearly 100 journalists and other members of civil society using WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, were targeted by spyware owned by Paragon Solutions, an Israeli maker of hacking software, the company alleged today.
The journalists and other civil society members were being alerted of a possible breach of their devices, with WhatsApp telling the Guardian it had “high confidence” that the users in question had been targeted and “possibly compromised”.
Experts said the targeting was a “zero-click” attack, which means targets would not have had to click on any malicious links to be infected.
WhatsApp declined to disclose where the journalists and members of civil society were based, including whether they were based in the US.
Paragon has a US office in Chantilly, Virginia. The company has faced recent scrutiny after Wired magazine in October reported that it had entered into a $2m contract with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s homeland security investigations division.
The division reportedly issued a stop-work order for the contract to verify whether it complied with a Biden administration executive order that restricted the use of spyware by the federal government.
WhatsApp said it had sent Paragon a “cease and desist” letter and that it was exploring its legal options. WhatsApp said the alleged attacks had been disrupted in December and that it was not clear how long the targets may have been under threat.
“WhatsApp has disrupted a spyware campaign by Paragon that targeted a number of users including journalists and members of civil society. We’ve reached out directly to people who we believe were affected. This is the latest example of why spyware companies must be held accountable for their unlawful actions. WhatsApp will continue to protect people’s ability to communicate privately,” a company spokesperson said.
The Guardian reached out to Paragon Solutions for a comment but the company did not immediately respond.
Paragon’s spyware is known as Graphite and has capabilities that are comparable to NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware. Once a phone is infected with Graphite, the operator of the spyware has total access over the phone, including being able to read messages that are sent via encrypted applications like WhatsApp and Signal.
WhatsApp said it believed the so-called vector, or means by which the infection was delivered to users, was through a malicious pdf file that was sent to individuals who were added to group chats. WhatsApp said it could say with “confidence” that Paragon was linked to this targeting.
