  5. Banks sell down $5.5 billion of Musk’s X debt to investors, source says Banks sell down $5.5 billion of Musk’s X debt to investors, source says By Shankar Ramakrishnan NEW YORK (Reuters) -Banks led by Morgan Stanley have sold $5.5 billion of some $13 billion of debt they lent to support Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, now called X, in 2022, said a source with knowledge of the deal. The acquisition was funded by a $6.5 billion secured term loan, a $500 million revolving credit facility, $3 billion unsecured loan and $3 billion of secured loans. One investor source said the deal was offered to a small group of investors by the bank consortium that also included Bank of America, Barclays, Mitsubishi UFJ, BNP Paribas, Mizuho, and Societe Generale. They were looking for minimum commitments in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the source said. The banks marketed the deal last week with an intention to sell down the debt at 90-95 cents to the dollar but managed to price it at a higher price of 97 cents, said the first source. Investors will get paid a yield of 11%, he added. It is the only known second attempt by the banks to sell down the debt. In late 2022, an attempt to sell the unsecured loan attracted bids in the 60 cents to the dollar range which would have seen the banks take on a large loss on the face value of the debt, the investor source said. At 97 cents, it is likely they sold at a profit, he added. Wall Street Journal earlier reported the ***** of the loan. Banks typically sell such loans to investors soon after the deal is done, but in the case of X, they have been stuck holding it. Musk’s sweeping changes to the platform, including laying off many people who worked to moderate content, and one of his posts on X, scared away advertisers and hit revenues. That reduced the value of the debt, as the risk of default increased. But the banks were confident of finding more traction with investors after Trump’s election victory in November and Musk’s emergence as a close aide to the new president was expected to drive more traffic to the X platform. One investor who did not participate in the deal said buyers were likely feeling more confident about the business. One selling point was that investors will gain exposure to X’s stake in Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI, according to a Bloomberg News report earlier. Another investor source from a large high-yield fund manager who was offered the loan however said he declined because it was unclear Musk’s closeness was giving X’s revenues a boost big enough to justify him buying debt with no credit ratings at even 90-95 cents to the dollar. Bank of America, Barclays, BNP, Mizuho and Societe Generale declined to comment and other banks did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 7. MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2 review: a basic, lightweight gaming mouse that doesn’t quite live up to its potential MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2 review: a basic, lightweight gaming mouse that doesn’t quite live up to its potential MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2: Two-minute review The GM41 Lightweight is a super simple wired gaming mouse appealing to serious gamers with its light weight and laser-like focus on gaming over extravagant features. This even extends to its looks. It sports a sleek, low-slung design with little in the way of adornments, or anything to offset the total ****** colorway. A large RGB light on the body is the only element that brightens up proceedings, which can be customized by holding the DPI button and pressing other buttons or moving the scroll wheel to adjust aspects such as the brightness, mode, speed, and color. The thin, long shape will likely suit those with long hands, although it might not be wide enough for some. As it’s flat and lower to the ground than many of the best gaming mice, your hand is barely raised from your desktop, which again, some may prefer and some may not. The mouse buttons are relatively flat too, meaning claw grippers might not find them to their liking. Its texture is smooth all over, save for the rubberized sides that help with grip, but they’re not as sticky as some others are, which I prefer. The DPI switch is located on the bottom, which isn’t the most convenient, although this does help to keep the GM41 Lightweight as minimal as possible, and prevents mispresses from occurring. (Image credit: Future) There’s no removing the braided cable as it’s hardwired. It also feels more durable than other braided cables, although it’s not as soft to touch. And while it’s light, it’s not as light as some of those adorning its rivals. In order to tweak the GM41 Lightweight further, the MSI Center software can be downloaded for free. However, compared to other peripheral software, it’s disappointingly basic. There are only a handful of rebinding options, including other mouse buttons and a few multimedia functions, but there are no keyboard assignments or system-level functions available. The same is true of performance enhancements. While you can select the increments for DPI cycling, the only other adjustments are for the polling rate, angle snapping, and lift-off distance – the latter of which only features two settings with no distance unit given. Those who like to tinker with their debounce time or toggle motion sync will be left out here. When it comes to actual gaming, the GM41 Lightweight acquits itself reasonably well. The lightness makes for easy maneuverability, while the mouse clicks are snappy, thanks to their lack of travel. However, this lack of travel also reduces feedback somewhat. This makes spamming clicks harder, as does the relative heaviness of the clicks themselves and that aforementioned flat shape of the buttons. On a more positive note, however, I did find the mouse buttons to be also pleasingly resistant to slam clicks. The scroll wheel, however, is very fast yet still provides enough notching to make for controlled flicks when needed. The scroll click is a little heavy, however, making it hard to actuate at times, but thankfully, it’s secure enough to prevent accidental mis-scrolls. (Image credit: Future) The side buttons are very thin, but light enough to use with ease. They offer slightly more travel than you might expect, but they are satisfyingly damped, making them more enjoyable to use than you might expect. However, while the cable is light, I found it did create drag when making large swipes. The issue seems to stem from the lack of angle on the strain relief, as it did little to elevate the first portion of the cable from my desktop surface. Depending on the layout of your setup, this might not be an issue, but you may benefit from using the GM41 Lightweight with a mouse bungee. Thankfully, the PTFE skates allow for smooth gliding on hard and soft surfaces, although they are quite thin, and there’s no spare set included in the box. But if you stick to mouse pads, then you should have no problem moving the GM41 Lightweight around. If you’re looking for a basic gaming mouse with no extra buttons or features, then the GM41 Lightweight is a solid choice. Its main rivals boast similar prices, such as BenQ’s range of EC mice. However, there are others, such as the Cooler Master MM311 and the Logitech G305 Lightspeed, that are cheaper and offer brilliant gaming performance, all without requiring a cable. MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2: Price & availability (Image credit: Future) $54 / £29 (about AU$85) Available now ****** only The GM41 Lightweight costs $54 / £29 (about AU$85) and is available in one colorway: ******. It doesn’t come with any replaceable parts, such as grip tape or a spare set of skates. Its price is in line with other 1K wired gaming mice. The BenQ Zowie EC2-C, which is our pick as the best mouse for CS:GO and CS2, costs about the same. However, that mouse is heavier at 73g, and that’s excluding the cable, but we still found its performance to be excellent. There are wireless gaming mice for less. The Cooler Master MM311, for instance, is our budget champion and also features a 1K polling rate, although it has no rechargeable battery. Likewise, the Logitech G305 Lightspeed is only marginally cheaper than the GM41 Lightweight, and is our pick as the best wireless gaming mouse for those on a budget. Swipe to scroll horizontally Value Many of its rivals are about the same price, but the GM41 Lightweight is undercut by some great wireless offerings, too. 3 / 5 Design The thin and flat body might not please everyone, but the side grips are a welcome addition, and its lightness makes it easy to use.. 3.5 / 5 Performance The GM41 Lightweight performs reasonably well, although there is some drag from the cable. The buttons are a little too heavy as well, and the lack of tweaks is disappointing. 3 / 5 Overall The GM41 Lightweight is a simple and easy to use gaming mouse, but the lack of features and top-end performance hold it back from true greatness. 3 / 5 Buy it if… Don’t buy it if… MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2: Also consider Swipe to scroll horizontally Header Cell – Column 0 MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2 Logitech G305 Lightspeed Cooler Master MM311 Price $54 / £29 (about AU$85) $59 / £59 / AU$99 $39 (about £31 / AU$59) Interface Wired (USB) Lightspeed wireless 2.4GHz wireless Ergonomics Right-handed symmetrical Right-handed asymmetrical Right-handed symmetrical Switches 6 6 6 DPI 16,000 12,000 10,000 Switch type OMRON switches Mechanical Button Tensioning Not specified (mechanical) Weight 2.3oz (65g) 3.5oz (99g) 2.71oz (77g) How I tested the MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight V2 Tested for several days Played various games 10+ years PC gaming experience I tested the GM41 Lightweight for several days, during which time I used it for playing games, productivity, and general use. Fans have waited years for the crossover series to return, and the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will finally bring Capcom vs. SNK to modern consoles. That’s an impressive lineup for a budget-priced collection–especially considering these will be playable with online matchmaking and rollback netcode. If you want to mimic the look of old TVs and arcade cabinets, you can cycle through different display filters to add scanlines. Kaspersky researchers find screenshot-reading malware on the App Store and Google Play Kaspersky researchers find screenshot-reading malware on the App Store and Google Play Researchers from Kaspersky have identified malware being distributed within apps on both Android and iOS mobile storefronts. Dmitry Kalinin and Sergey Puzan shared their into a malware campaign, which they have dubbed SparkCat, that has likely been active since March 2024. “We cannot confirm with certainty whether the infection was a result of a supply chain attack or deliberate action by the developers,” the pair wrote. “Some of the apps, such as food delivery services, appeared to be legitimate, whereas others apparently had been built to lure victims.” The Kaspersky duo said SparkCat is a stealthy operation that at a glance appears to be requesting normal or harmless permissions. Some of the apps where the pair uncovered malware are still available to download, including food delivery app ComeCome and AI chat apps AnyGPT and WeTink. The malware in question uses optical character recognition (OCR) to review a device’s photo library, seeking screenshots of recovery phrases for crypto wallets. Based on their assessment, infected Google Play apps have been downloaded more than 242,000 times. Kaspersky says “This is the first known case of an app infected with OCR spyware being found in Apple’s official app marketplace.” Apple often promotes the rigorous security of the App Store, and while instances of malware appearing have been rare, this discovery is a reminder that the walled garden is not impervious to attacks. Ann Wang | Reuters Qualcomm reported better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results on Wednesday and issued strong guidance for the current *******. Here’s how the chipmaker did versus LSEG consensus estimates for the quarter ending Dec. 29: Earnings per share: $3.41, adjusted, vs. $2.96 estimated Revenue: $11.67 billion vs. $10.93 billion estimated Revenue in the quarter rose 18% from $9.92 billion a year ago. 14. Senate Republicans to move forward on Trump agenda as House stalls on budget reconciliation plan Senate Republicans to move forward on Trump agenda as House stalls on budget reconciliation plan Washington — Senate Republicans said Wednesday that they intend to move forward with their own plan to approve key components of President Trump’s agenda beginning next week, as the House efforts to start the budget reconciliation process have stalled. “It’s time for the Senate to move,” Sen. Lindsey Graham told reporters Wednesday, after briefing Senate Republicans on the plan during their lunch meeting. Congressional leaders have been pursuing a massive legislative package through the budget reconciliation process to enact Mr. Trump’s agenda, including resources to bolster border security, extend 2017 tax cuts, incentivize domestic manufacturing and invest in American energy, while working to pare government programs and address the debt limit. But top Republican leaders have appeared disjointed in how to proceed, prompting weeks of back and forth over whether to pursue a one- or two-bill approach. Until now, Senate Republicans had deferred to the House to kick off the process, though they generally advocated the two-bill approach that would include an initial effort to quickly secure a border win, while stressing that the tax legislation would take time to write and should be addressed in a separate measure. The budget reconciliation process allows Congress to fast-track certain types of legislation and avoid the 60-vote threshold typically required in the Senate. But it’s a complicated maneuver that comes with its own limitations on what can be included. In order to approve legislation using budget reconciliation, lawmakers must first approve a budget resolution, but the House has faced a backlash from conservatives in recent days over the legislation. Sen. Lindsey Graham speaks during a news conference on border security on January 17, 2024 in Washington, DC. Kent Nishimura / Getty Images Graham, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said that while he appreciates “what the House is trying to do,” he thinks it’s important to get the money to implement Mr. Trump’s border security policy. He argued that “one big beautiful bill,” which Trump and House Republicans have said they prefer, is “too complicated.” “It’s important we put points on the board,” Graham said, saying the president’s plan on border security is “running into a wall of funding.” He said Senate Republicans are discussing a bill with $150 billion for border security that he said would be paid for. House Republican leaders outlined a timeline for the single-bill approach, which starts with the markup of a budget resolution that they aimed to hold this week — and a pledge to have the package on Trump’s desk before May. The timing would fall within the first 100 days of Trump’s second term, and allow for three vacancies in the House Republican ranks to be filled, improving their chances at winning approval for the bill. House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Tuesday, as Senate Republicans began airing frustrations with the pace in the House, that “we are well within the margins of time that we have to work on and I’m very optimistic about it,” adding that “we’ve made a lot of progress.” “The Senate will not take the lead,” Johnson said. “We’re going to take the lead, and we’re right on schedule.” Johnson told reporters after Graham’s comments Wednesday that he would talk to him, calling the South Carolina Republican a “good friend,” while underscoring that “the House needs to lead this if we’re going to have success.” Nikole Killion and Jaala Brown contributed to this report. Nintendo President Weighs In On Switch 2 Pricing As Some Experts Predict $400 Nintendo President Weighs In On Switch 2 Pricing As Some Experts Predict $400 Screenshot: Nintendo / Universal / Kotaku The Switch 2 currently faces three big questions following its January reveal: how powerful is it, what games will it have, and what will it cost? Nintendo was asked about that last one in its latest earnings call, and while the company’s president remained cagey, he also said Nintendo will continue to take its reputation for affordability into account when determining the final price, which some experts predict will be $400. The original Switch launched at $300 back in 2017. Since then, however, inflation has driven up the cost of various components, and console makers this generation have declined their usual hardware price cuts, even raising prices in some regions instead. And while it remains to be seen just how good the specs of the Switch 2 might be, this time around the device will also be partially competing with higher-end PC gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. “We are aware that inflation is currently rising and that the exchange rate environment has changed significantly since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017,” Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors in the company’s third-quarter earnings call this week, according to a translation by Nintendo Everything. “We also need to consider the affordable prices that customers expect from Nintendo products. When considering the price of our products, we believe that it is necessary to consider these factors from multiple angles. At this time, we cannot announce the specific price of the Nintendo Switch 2, but we are considering it taking into account various points.” There will certainly be pressure to price the Switch 2 higher than its predecessor, especially because Nintendo traditionally tries to make profit off of its hardware rather than selling it under market value as a loss-leader for selling software. At the same time, Furukawa’s remarks suggest that, despite the wild popularity of the original Switch, Nintendo knows it risks pricing itself into irrelevance if it aims too high. So what will the Switch 2 actually cost? Last month, IGN interviewed several industry analysts for their expert opinions. While some think Nintendo could charge as much as $500 for the new device, many are banking on it costing $400. This was the “sweet spot” for Rhys Elliot of MIDiA, and Ampere Analysis’ Piers Harding-Rolls told IGN he was currently basing his sales projections on the same number. At the same time, diehard fans upgrading in the first year would probably be willing to pay more. “Early adopters won’t be price sensitive, and prices can always be lowered,” Circana’s Mat Piscatella said. “Of course, people will want it to be lower than whatever it is it will be announced at.” Story Continues And what does history tell us Nintendo will do? Polygon assembled a chart of inflation-adjusted prices of all of the company’s consoles. Starting with the launch of the Nintendo 64, the price has mostly hung around $350 to $400. That seems like the minimum price this time around considering the Switch OLED itself is still $350, and while the Switch 2 is rumored to have a cheaper LCD screen, its other features, including the Joy-**** with mouse-like functionality, are a lot beefier this time around. Read More: 21 Games We’d Love To See On The Nintendo Switch 2 Polygon also notes that Nintendo has a history of trying to undercut its competition when it comes to price. This is the tradition of “affordability” Furukawa was referencing in this week’s call. But that will be harder to do late into a console generation where the disc-less PS5 is $450 (up from its 2020 launch price of $400). The current cheapest Steam Deck is also $400, though you can also get refurbished ones for under $300 when they’re available. My own gut tells me that making the Switch 2 cost $400 is the logical play here, with $450 the absolute max the company can charge, unless it debuts something truly stunning during its April Switch 2 Direct that will get people excited to upgrade. I showed my kids the original Switch 2 reveal and they haven’t asked about it again at all, content to keep toiling away in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Families without a parent that writes about video games for a living might feel similarly unmoved about upgrading early if the price is too high. But all of that will depend on everything Nintendo still hasn’t told us about it’s next console. We’ll have to wait a couple more months for that info too. . 16. Incredibly Expensive Video Games Are Not Necessary And Contribute To Job Losses, Exec Says Incredibly Expensive Video Games Are Not Necessary And Contribute To Job Losses, Exec Says Saber Interactive founder Matthew Karch has shared some pointed words about the state of the AAA video game market. Speaking to reporter Stephen Totilo aboard a private jet that he paid $23 million for, Karch said incredibly expensive AAA games may become a thing of the past and are contributing to the string of job losses in the market today. “I think that the age of the $200 million, $300 million, $400 million AAA game is on its way out. I don’t think it’s necessary. I don’t think it’s appropriate,” Karch said. The executive went on to say he believes the costs associated with making such big-budget games may help explain why the video game industry is seeing so many layoffs today. “I don’t know how best to put it….I think if anything has contributed more to the loss of jobs, it’s the multi-hundred million dollar budget,” he said. In 2023, Karch’s Beacon Interactive bought certain assets from Saber’s parent company Embracer as part of a divestiture from Embracer’s business operations in Russia. It was at this time that Karch and Embracer officially parted ways, with Beacon effectively buying Saber our of Embracer. Before this, Karch lamented how “games are getting cut left and right” due to certain economic conditions within the video game business. “The consolidation that’s been going on in the industry is gonna hurt that as well, and the costs and the turmoil that the industry has been going through… Teams will regroup but the capital at the moment, it just isn’t there,” he told GI.biz. “And so the industry is actually contracting somewhat and the supply of content is going to be way short of the demand.” Karch has also questioned the $70 price point for games, saying he would prefer not too charge that much and believes it’s “almost not fair” to do so. He cited Helldivers 2, which launched at $40, as being an example of a lower-priced game that went on to enjoy huge success. One of Saber’s biggest recent releases was 2024’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which was priced at $70 despite what Karch thinks about that price point. Saber’s Tim Willits, commenting on the success of Space Marine 2, said it’s a sad truth that many game studios declare a game a failure if it doesn’t sell 5 million copies. “I mean, what business are we in where you fail if you sell less than 5 million?” he said. 17. Fixed mortgage rates see some easing amid Trump tariff threats. Here’s why – National Fixed mortgage rates see some easing amid Trump tariff threats. Here’s why – National Canada’s mortgage market is reacting to fears this week that United States President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs could deliver a sharp blow to the ********* economy. Experts say that home buyers and owners with a mortgage up for renewal could secure a cheaper rate amid the dysfunction, but also warn that the forecast for the spring housing market is far from clear thanks to the lingering uncertainty. The five-year Government of Canada bond yield saw a sharp decline on Monday in the wake of Trump’s weekend announcement that blanket tariffs would hit the ********* economy on Tuesday — an order that he later pushed to instead take effect in 30 days. 4:11 Trump postpones tariffs, where does that leave Canada? That metric — a key input for popular five-year, fixed-rate mortgages in Canada — fell roughly 20 basis points when markets opened to as low as 2.58 per cent, a low not seen since April 2022, according to Ratehub mortgage expert Penelope Graham. Story continues below advertisement Trump’s deferral later in the day led to a recovery in the key yield, but it has continued to falter since, holding just above 2.62 per cent on Wednesday afternoon. That’s well below recent highs of roughly 3.28 per cent in mid-January. Graham in a release explained that investors were looking for safe haven investments rather than stocks amid fears of a ********* recession resulting from the tariffs. But even with the most immediate fears abating, she said that Canadians are “already enjoying discounts,” with the lowest available five-year, fixed mortgage in Canada holding around 3.89 per cent as of Tuesday, according to the rate comparator. The cheapest options will largely be in the insured mortgage space where buyers have put less than 20 per cent down on their purchase. While the Bank of Canada’s interest rate decisions affect variable-rate mortgages in the market, fixed mortgages are tied closely to bond yields, which reflect bets for where the central bank’s policy rate will be in the longer term. The Bank of Canada last week dropped its benchmark interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 3.0 per cent, its sixth consecutive cut since June. 6:05 Bank of Canada Slashes Key Interest Rate to 3% Bank of Montreal on Monday released a revised outlook that forecast a full percentage point of additional interest rate cuts if Trump were to impose his threatened tariffs, on top of the 50 basis points of cuts already in the lender’s baseline economic scenarios. The need to gird Canada’s economy against the worst of the tariff impacts would outweigh upward pressure on inflation in the central bank’s mind, BMO argued. Story continues below advertisement Victor Tran, mortgage and real estate expert at rates.ca, tells Global News that some lenders in Canada lowered their fixed-rate mortgages in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s tariff declaration and the resulting bond yield drop on Monday. Get weekly money news Get expert insights, Q&A on markets, housing, inflation, and personal finance information delivered to you every Saturday. Fixed rates in the market dropped between five and 10 basis points, Tran says, and largely among the smaller, monoline lenders. Canada’s Big Six banks have yet to lower their fixed mortgage rates on offer, he explains, and are “treading cautiously” amid the ongoing uncertainty. Banks need to protect their profit margins, Tran says, and won’t rush to lower fixed rates with mortgage deals on the books but not yet closed. “If they drop rates too quickly, then it causes quite a bit of panic potentially with a lot of the mortgage clients in the pipeline that have not closed those deals yet,” he says. That said, he argues Canadians “could expect some fixed rate drops in the coming days.” Mortgage options for Canadians to consider Trending Now Did Trump wake ‘sleeping giant’ of ‘Buy *********’? Why some won’t budge Donald Trump Jr. accused of killing rare, protected bird on trip to Italy Graham argued that Canadians who have a renewal coming up, or those who are eyeing the spring housing market, ought to get a rate secured now, as it’s unclear whether the yields will continue to drop or reverse course if Trump were to waive off the tariff threat for good in the weeks to come. Story continues below advertisement “If you’re currently shopping for a mortgage rate, it’s important to strike while yields are still trending lower, and secure a rate hold and pre-approval to guarantee access to the fixed-rate pricing that’s available today, before markets shift again,” she said. Tran agrees. Most lenders will offer clients a 120-day rate hold on their mortgage offer, allowing would-be homebuyers to lock in today’s lower rates even if they rise in the weeks ahead, but also take advantage of future rate drops before they sign for a purchase, he explains. He also argues now is a good time to consider a variable-rate mortgage, with expectations from most economists that the Bank of Canada will deliver additional interest cuts in 2025, even if the tariff threat does not fully materialize. Tran says the spread between fixed and variable mortgage rates is quite close in today’s market, and it would likely only take one or two additional cuts in the next three-to-six months for a homeowner to realize savings on a variable rate over the more secure fixed option. “There’s always going to be a risk element going for the variable rate. But I think it’s a calculated risk that a lot of people would have to look at,” he says. 1:41 Housing market poised for 2025 comeback as lower rates unleash pent-up demand Trump’s tariff threats are also looming large over the traditionally busy spring housing market. Story continues below advertisement While Tran says the lower mortgage rates will help with affordability and buying power, he argues that some Canadians might be feeling hesitant with the tariff cloud lingering. A job loss or sudden renewed surge in the cost of living might have some would-be buyers thinking twice about the housing market right now, he says. “There’s definitely demand out there for housing. Lots of buyers standing on the sidelines,” Tran says. “But due to the instability that we’re seeing in the political world, I think a lot of people are scared to make the biggest purchase of their lives.” Graham said that “even rock-bottom interest rates will do little to support demand” in the event of a sharp downturn in the economy and widespread job losses. She noted, however, that depending on the fiscal and monetary policy response to tariffs, Canadians could face a repeat of the COVID-19 pandemic’s hot housing market, when cheap borrowing costs and government stimulus fuelled a “psychological urgency” among would-be homebuyers. 19. Chiefs’ countdown for record three-peat continues Chiefs’ countdown for record three-peat continues Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are pursuing history and a few of Taylor Swift’s records. Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles stand in their way. The Chiefs (17-2) will try to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls when they face the Eagles (17-3) on Monday (AEDT) in the Superdome in New Orleans. It’s a rematch from two years ago when Hurts nearly led the Eagles to a championship only to watch Mahomes snatch it away by rallying Kansas City to a 38-35 win on Harrison Butker’s 27-yard field goal with eight seconds left. Mahomes lifted the Chiefs to an overtime win against San Francisco in another Super Bowl rematch last year. Now, they’re poised for a three-peat, a word coach Andy Reid doesn’t use much. “I think the only time I’ve heard him say it is to the media whenever y’all ask him about it,” Mahomes said. Reid won more games than any coach in franchise history during his 14 seasons in Philadelphia but couldn’t win the big one, going 1-4 in NFC championship games and losing a Super Bowl to New England. He went right to Kansas City after the Eagles fired him following the 2012 season and has built a dynasty thanks to Mahomes, Kelce and others. “You don’t have time to think about all that,” Reid said of the three-peat. “You’re focused in on the job at hand here and that’s playing against a great Eagles team.” No matter what the Chiefs say, everyone else is talking about it. No team has done it in the Super Bowl era, though Green Bay won an NFL championship in 1965 and followed by winning the first two Super Bowls. “This is gonna be our biggest test yet,” Kelce said. “They got a lot of great players but the biggest thing is they play great together. You could see the accountability they have … It’s not gonna make my job any easier.” These Eagles are different from the group that fell just short in Arizona two years ago. They have the NFL’s most dynamic player in the backfield. Barkley rushed for 2447 yards with seven touchdowns of 60-plus yards in the regular season and playoffs. “The goal has always been to win it, not just to get here,” Barkley said. Losing to the Chiefs two years ago only motivated Hurts even more. He’s determined to hoist a Lombardi trophy and even had a photo of him walking off the field with Kansas City’s red and yellow confetti falling around him as the background on his phone. “It’s had a great driving force,” Hurts said of that loss. “It lit a flame, lit a fire in me, and to have this opportunity again is exactly what you work for.” If the Chiefs win, Reid and Mahomes will be one step closer to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. They’re halfway to the six Belichick and Brady won together at the Patriots and Mahomes is still four away from Brady’s seven rings. A win for Kansas City also would give Kelce his fourth ring, the same number of Grammy Awards his pop star girlfriend has won for best album. Overall, Kelce has 18 playoff wins and Swift has 14 Grammys. “She’s up there being the superstar that she is and never taking no for an answer and always working her tail off. I better match that energy for sure,” Kelce said. Source link #Chiefs #countdown #record #threepeat #continues Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

On Wednesday, the company announced the expanded availability of ChatGPT Search. After rolling out the tool first to paid subscribers last fall, and then making it available to all logged-in free users at the end of 2024, now anyone can use ChatGPT Search with no account or sign-in necessary. “Like the logged-in experience, ChatGPT can search the web and get you fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources directly in ChatGPT,” OpenAI said. In most cases, ChatGPT will automatically search the web to source the most up-to-date information related to your question. Users can also force the chatbot to scour the internet by tapping the “Search” button below the prompt bar. To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the “Content and social-media partners” setting to do so. Effectively, today’s announcement means OpenAI is ready to take on Google’s dominance in search, though, if I had to guess, right now it’s more concerned about staying ahead of upstarts like DeepSeek. In just the last week, the company announced the availability of its latest AI model, and a new ChatGPT feature called Deep Research. Oh, and it even showed off a new logo. 21. Apple rumored to kick off M5 chip production using TSMC performance-enhanced 3nm node Apple rumored to kick off M5 chip production using TSMC performance-enhanced 3nm node Apple has started large-scale production of its next-generation M5 processor for desktops, laptops, and high-performance tablets, reports ETNews citing its own sources. The new system-on-chip (SoC) is expected to use a performance-enhanced N3P fabrication process, which was set to enter mass production in the second half of 2024, so the information has some merit. Still, as the information comes from an unofficial source, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Apple’s M5 is the next-generation CPU for entry-level Macs as well as high-end iPad Pro tablets. The M5 family is projected to include M5, M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra processors, though Apple has not formally disclosed its plans concerning the lineup. Also, the company did not disclose any specifications of these units, though we expect them to feature new general-purpose cores, revamped GPUs, improved NPUs, and possibly enhanced memory subsystems. The report claims that Apple’s new M5 processors will use organic substrates featuring ‘Ajinomoto’s upgraded ABF films,’ which can increase the density of interconnections as well as decrease the thickness of SoC packages. In addition, the high-end M5 Pro, Max, and Ultra versions will use hybrid bonding and a 2.5D packaging technology — TSMC’s SoIC-mH (molding horizontal) — to disaggregate the CPU and GPU (taking a page from Intel’s book) and reduce thermal density, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a reputable analyst from TF International Securities. Transition to multi-chiplet designs with high-performance CPUs makes sense for Apple, as it will let the brand increase yields at the cost of a longer production cycle. This year’s SoCs are all expected to use TSMC’s N3P manufacturing technology, a performance-enhanced optical shrink of the company’s N3E fabrication process. As an optical shrink, the N3P node allows processors developers to either boost performance by 4% at the same power level or cut power use by 9% at identical clock speeds. Additionally, it increases transistor density by 4% for mixed designs, defined by TSMC as 50% logic, 30% SRAM, and 20% analog circuits. Considering microarchitectural enhancements, process technology improvements, and the multi-chiplet design of Apple’s premium M5 SoCs, it’s logical to assume they’ll offer substantial performance advantages over M4 CPUs (though actual numbers remain to be seen). TSMC said multiple times that its N3P would enter mass production in the second half of 2024, so it would make sense, time-wise, for the company to have started mass producing chips on this manufacturing node late last year. It is likely that Apple’s M5 will be among the first processors to use N3P (though this is speculation), so the chance that TSMC is currently mass producing the SoC is fairly high. As for higher-end M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra variants that presumably rely on a multi-chiplet design and use advanced packaging, we expect their mass production will start a little later. This doesn’t mean the first Apple products with the M5 are around the corner — Apple finished updating its lineup of products with its M4 series processors in October, so it’s likely not going to rush the successors just yet. We expect we’ll see M5 products later this year. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. 22. Electronic Arts’ $1B Buyback Plan Boosts Investor Confidence Electronic Arts’ $1B Buyback Plan Boosts Investor Confidence Electronic Arts (NYSE: NASDAQ:) recently announced its third-quarter financial for fiscal year 2025, revealing a slight miss on Wall Street’s earnings projections. The company reported an earnings per share (EPS) of $2.83, falling short of the anticipated $2.88. Revenue for the quarter stood at $2.22 billion, marking a 6.4% decrease compared to the same ******* last year and below the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.25 billion. Despite these setbacks, EA unveiled a $1 billion accelerated stock repurchase plan, which buoyed investor sentiment, leading to a 2% increase in premarket trading. EA Recent Financial Performance Hit by Decline in In-Game Spending EA’s recent financial performance has been impacted by a decline in in-game spending, particularly for its popular title “FC 25,” as well as underwhelming results from its new Dragon Age release. The company reaffirmed its full-year outlook, although it set the upper limits of its earnings and bookings guidance lower than consensus expectations. Analysts from Bank of America have pointed to potential gameplay tuning issues in FC 25 as a factor reducing player engagement. Nonetheless, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, expressed optimism regarding the company’s long-term growth prospects, highlighting the success of the EA SPORTS FC 25 Team of the Year event as a positive indicator. Following the announcement of the earnings report and stock buyback plan, EA’s stock exhibited positive movement. The stock opened on February 5, 2025, at $127.34, up from the previous close of $121.25. By mid-morning, the price had climbed to $128.535, with fluctuations observed within the day, reaching a low of $126.21 and a high of $130.56. Over the past year, EA’s stock has experienced a range from a low of $115.21 to a high of $168.5. The recent recovery from January’s low to the current price indicates renewed investor confidence, possibly fueled by the buyback announcement. Analyst Remain Optimistic on EA Stock EA’s market metrics provide further insight into its current standing. The company’s market capitalization is valued at $33.71 billion, and it maintains a dividend rate of $0.76 with a yield of 0.62%. The trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is 32.71, while the forward P/E ratio is notably lower at 17.07, suggesting expectations of improved future earnings. With a buy recommendation and a target mean price of $143.78, analysts appear cautiously optimistic about the stock’s potential, despite the fiscal year 2025 guidance falling short of Wall Street estimates. *** Neither the author, Tim Fries, nor this website, The Tokenist, provide financial advice. 25. The Veilguard’s Failure Because Players “seek shared world features and deeper engagement” The Veilguard’s Failure Because Players “seek shared world features and deeper engagement” Electronic Arts has been in rocky waters recently, following the disastrous revenue report (and reception) of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the general slump that has followed in its live service titles (such as EA FC). Veilguard in particular, was a sore disappointment to fans and critics alike, with many lambasting the developer for a subpar campaign that hinged on the ‘woke’ territory. A recent financial report from EA seems to put the blame on something else entirely, highlighting the company’s misdirection. Live service elements could have saved Dragon Age: The Veilguard, according to EA Dragon Age has not met sales targets | Image Credit: BioWare As detailed within the ‘Electronic Arts Inc. Earnings Call’ for Q3 2025, EA’s performance for this particular financial year has been nothing short of underwhelming, with EA Sports FC and BioWare’s newest Dragon Age entry being blamed for these mishaps. However, it was not the financial performance we wanted or expected BioWare’s flagship title in particular has come across some heavy criticism on its overall execution and handling of things, with even die-hard fans of the series calling out the game. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t inherently a bad game by any means, it is just forgettable, and has nothing to hook the player on to. This, coupled with allegations of a ‘woke agenda’ most certainly did not help sort things out either. It should be noted here that the disappointing sales of Anthem might have forced EA to cancel live service elements in Dragon Age, which it regrets. Sales figures reflected the same, and despite an initial strong start, Veilguard barely managed to scrape by. Veilguard has caused mass layoffs at EA | Image Credit: BioWare All of this culminated in mass layoffs from BioWare, and the studio remains a former shell of what it used to be – which is quite the unfortunate situation. We could very likely never see a new Dragon Age game come to fruition, which is apparently to be blamed for the lack of live-service elements in the same. Games need to directly connect to the evolving demand of players who increasingly seek shared world features and deeper engagement alongside high-quality narratives in this beloved category. It should be noted here that Dragon Age has traditionally been a single-player, narrative-driven RPG – and a push towards live-service-esque modes would only further alienate its playerbase. However, it did not resonate with a broad enough audience in this highly competitive market. This is despite initial, very positive reviews from both players and critics alike. EA does mention the market as being highly competitive, and admits that perhaps Veilguard perhaps lacked the charm to capture its audience. EA’s denial makes things even worse EA needs to get its head out of the sand | Image Credit: BioWare Electronic Arts’ denial is quite frankly, baffling – and not a good outlook. The last thing Veilguard needed was monetization and live-service elements. Dragon Age has always been a single-player game, and shoving live service elements into every franchise rarely works out. This wouldn’t be EA’s first fumble though – they have been known to notoriously cull beloved IPs when they fail to draw in profit. A particular glaring example would be Dead Space, which was canned after the mediocre and quite disappointing third entry. While they did redeem themselves with the 2023 remake, the future of the series still remains unclear, and there is no guarantee that a Dragon Age remake will not face the same problems that Veilguard did – or even succeed, for that matter. EA is out of touch with its core audience here, and this could prove to be very fatal for the company. Without a playerbase to hold on to, it would likely die a slow, painful death. While things do look grim, it is hoped that EA manages to bounce back and restore itself back to its glory days – given that the other alternative is quite grim.
