Tesla Just Shook the Market – Will It Crash or Soar Next?

Tesla Just Shook the Market – Will It ****** or Soar Next? Tesla Just Shook the Market – Will It ****** or Soar Next? Tesla’s (NASDAQ:) latest report sent shockwaves to investors, with earnings per share and revenue missing Wall Street expectations. The stock initially dropped in after-hours trading but managed to rebound as the market digested the report, with the stock buoyed by optimistic comments made by CEO Elon Musk. With mixed sentiment surrounding the automotive giant’s near-term prospects, let’s take a closer look at the stock’s technical positioning and key fundamental drivers. Q4 Earnings: A Tough Quarter for Tesla Tesla reported Q4 2024 earnings per share of $0.73, missing the consensus estimate of $0.76. Revenue came in at $25.71 billion, falling short of the expected $27.26 billion. While revenue increased just 2% year-over-year, automotive revenue declined by 8% to $19.8 billion, reflecting pricing pressures across Tesla’s Model lineup. Operating income took a significant hit, dropping 23% year-over-year to $1.6 billion, while operating margin compressed to 6.2%, down from 8.2% a year ago. Tesla’s net income plunged 71% year-over-year to $2.32 billion, a sharp decline from the previous year’s $7.93 billion, though last year’s figure was inflated by a one-time $5.9 billion noncash tax benefit. A primary concern remains Tesla’s aggressive price cuts, which have helped maintain sales volume but at the expense of profitability. The company’s first annual delivery decline, coming in at 1.8 million vehicles, raises additional concerns about growth momentum. Technical Analysis: Key Levels to Watch From a technical perspective, Tesla’s stock has been highly volatile in recent months. Following its post-earnings dip, the stock is testing key support near $370, a critical level that previously acted as resistance midway through the stock’s remarkable rally following Trump’s election victory. If this support holds, it could signal a buying opportunity for investors betting on continuing momentum and the stock’s uptrend on a higher timeframe. However, a break below $370 and relative weakness in the market could see Tesla sliding toward its next key support zone between $330 and $360, where buyers previously stepped in during November 2024. On the upside, resistance sits near $420. a level the stock struggled to reclaim recently. If the stock broke above $420, it would confirm a bull-flag breakout, with Tesla’s high of $488.54 then coming into question. The relative strength index (RSI) is currently hovering near oversold territory, suggesting Tesla could be primed for a short-term bounce if sentiment and market positioning improve. Key Growth Drivers: FSD and Energy Storage While Tesla’s automotive segment faces headwinds, its Full Self-Driving (FSD) and energy businesses remain compelling long-term growth drivers. CEO Elon Musk reiterated plans to launch an unsupervised FSD option this year, with a potential commercial rollout of a driverless ride-hailing service. Tesla’s recent advancements in artificial intelligence, mainly through its Cortex supercomputer, could further accelerate FSD development. Tesla’s energy division was a bright spot in the earnings report, with revenue surging 113% year-over-year to $3.06 billion. Energy storage deployments continue to grow rapidly, positioning Tesla as a leader in renewable energy integration. With global demand for energy storage rising, this segment offers a promising diversification beyond vehicle sales. Bottom Line: A High-Risk, High-Reward Setup Tesla remains one of the most polarizing stocks on Wall Street. Bulls argue that FSD, robotics, and energy storage will drive Tesla’s next growth phase, while bears point to declining automotive margins and a more competitive EV landscape. Tesla’s latest earnings report highlights the company’s near-term challenges, but long-term growth catalysts remain intact. The stock’s technical setup suggests that $420 is a crucial level to watch for a breakout, with potential downside if $370 support fails to hold. For investors with an elevated risk tolerance, Tesla’s current pullback from 52-week highs could present an opportunity to buy into its future of autonomy and energy innovation at a relative discount. With no concrete guidance for 2025, Tesla’s ability to execute on FSD and maintain profitability will be key factors to monitor. Until then, expect continued volatility as the stock navigates both technical and fundamental headwinds. 10 Best AA Games With Indie Game Vibes 10 Best AA Games With Indie Game Vibes Gary Green said: Everyone needs a change of scenery once in a while. Even a homebody such as myself can’t help but wonder what life is like elsewhere, even if for a brief stay. From my suburban upbringing with a close proximity to a once-bustling town centre, I often find myself wondering if I would integrate into community better elsewhere. My hometown isn’t exactly thriving in terms of financial stability or community spirit, and when mental exhaustion kicks in, packing up and leaving occasionally crosses my mind, in search of something feeling more like ‘home’. Perhaps from day-trips as a child and family holidays, I’ve always found a fondness for seaside communities, though the sea itself fills me with ambivalence in both a fear and fascination of what lies beneath, not unlike the established mindset of H.P Lovecraft himself, only without the casual racism. Through games, if I’m lucky enough, I get to experience these settings and their communities from the comfort of my own home, providing of course I can find a game that fits the description. Enter Concrete Genie, an outstanding little adventure. It’s not Lovecraft though, but maybe that’s not such a bad thing since we’ll need to go to a darker place for that. Concrete Genie has the potential to fill that need for exploration where Call of Cthulhu ultimately missed the mark. Woman Who Refused To Leave Pakistan After Failed Marriage Is Finally Returning To United States Woman Who Refused To Leave Pakistan After Failed Marriage Is Finally Returning To United States An American woman who initially refused to leave Pakistan after a failed marriage situation is reportedly returning to the United States. According to The Independent, Onijah Andrew Robinson traveled to the South Asian country with hopes of marrying Nidal Ahmed Memon, a 19-year-old she had met online. Upon her arrival, the young man and his family rejected her, leaving her in the country with no place to go. Robinson was then stranded in the city of Karachi, as her tourist visa expired. According to the outlet, she remained near the Memon family home, however, the family had vacated the property and locked the residence. Although money was raised for her to return home, she allegedly refused the financial support. She instead took her story to TikTok, where she became a viral sensation. In her videos, she exclaims “I’m asking for 100K or more. I need 20K by this week, in my pockets, in cash,” noting, “That’s a demand to the government.” She even holds what appears to be a press conference at one point. In several clips as she shares plans to “rebuild” Pakistan, she asks for “two thousand or more every week”, “more than five thousand dollars in USD”, and “I want 20K up front, 5K-10K to stay here every week, and I want those demands from the government right away.” According to The Independent, she even revealed plans to continue with her marriage to Memon, even after he rejected the relationship. “Make sure you get this on your camera, I’m married to Nidal Ahmed Memon, we are moving to Dubai very soon. We’re going to have our baby in Dubai,” adding that it was against her religion to share her “business” when pressed for details. ****** Enterprise reported the Pakistani government had placed Robinson in a psychiatry department at Karachi’s Jinnah Post Graduate Hospital for a mental health examination. A man claiming to be her son described her as “mentally unstable” and having bipolar disorder. He relayed that he is working to have her return. “I’m trying to help her as her son to come back to the U.S. She was only supposed to go to Pakistan to meet him and his family.” Per BE, after several refusals, one resulting in a delayed flight for other passengers, Robinson has finally agreed to return to New York explaining, “I would like you guys to book my ticket back to New York,” continuing to elaborate, “Money is short right now, and I will appreciate it.” More from VIBE.com Sign up for Vibe’s Newsletter. A view of the Zagros mountains in Iran, where an oceanic plate is tearing apart. . | Credit: Allan Baxter via Getty Images A long-lost oceanic plate is diving deep into the mantle, dragging down the crust above, researchers say. However, the plate is also tearing apart below the Zagros Mountains in Iraq as it plunges downward, taking some of the load off the overlying crust. This tearing process has likely already occurred on the west side of the mountain range, where Iraq’s Kurdistan region butts up against Turkey, new research finds. The tear is now heading toward northwest Iran. These dynamics aren’t immediately obvious at the surface, but they reveal how the mantle and crust work together to shape Earth’s topography, the researchers said in the new study, published Nov. 25, 2024 in the journal Solid Earth. The ocean plate was once the seafloor of Neotethys — an ocean that formed when the supercontinent Pangaea broke up into a northern continent, Laurasia, and a southern continent, Gondwana about 195 million years ago. Though Neotethys closed up more than 20 million years ago, the oceanic crust that used to underpin it is still affecting the Zagros mountain region, the new study found. “This plate is pulling the region downward from below,” study author Renas Koshnaw, a researcher in geology at Göttingen University in Germany, said in a statement. As Neotethys closed up, the oceanic crust went under the Eurasian continent. The continental portion of the Arabian plate, which underpins modern-day Iraq and Saudi Arabia, was dragged behind, resulting in a collision with Eurasia. This collision created mountains, which pressed down on the crust around them, creating a depression. These mountains eroded into this depression over millions of years, their sediments forming the Mesopotamian plain where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers flow. RELATED STORIES –A history of Earth’s supercontinents –Zealandia, Earth’s hidden continent, was torn from supercontinent Gondwana in flood of fire 100 million years ago –Is Africa splitting in two? Koshnaw and his colleagues saw that on the southeastern side of this plane, there is an unusually thick layer of sediments, 1.9 to 2.5 miles (3 to 4 kilometers) deep. They mapped the area and used computer modeling to find that the weight of the mountains alone could not account for such a deep divot. Instead, they found that this region is being dragged down by the remains of the Neotethys oceanic plate, which is still plunging into the mantle. But the plate is also being torn apart as it descends. “Towards Turkey, the sediment-filled depression becomes much shallower, suggesting that the slab has broken off in this area, relieving the downward pull force,” Koshnaw said. Understanding these dynamics can help inform the search for natural resources such as iron, phosphate and copper, which form in sedimentary rocks, the researchers said. Faults formed in the collision between the Arabian and Eurasian plates also give off large, deadly earthquakes. Alphabet Stock Dip Is a Prime AI-Powered Buying Opportunity Alphabet Stock Dip Is a Prime AI-Powered Buying Opportunity Alphabet (NASDAQ:), Google’s parent company, saw a February stock price dip, creating a compelling buying opportunity for investors. The move was driven by sentiment, not fundamentals, which have the company on track to grow in 2025. AI underpins growth, and because of the ramping investment, it will likely exceed expectations over the next few years. Alphabet aims to spend $75 billion on CapEx this year to build advanced data centers and AI infrastructure that will pay off in spades as time progresses. Alphabet Ends 2024 With Momentum in All Segments had a strong year, including Q4, when revenue increased by nearly 12%. The $96.5 billion reported revenue is shy of the consensus, but the miss is slim and offset by internal metrics revealing momentum in AI segments and a widening margin. Segmentally, Services, the largest segment, grew by 10% on a 10% increase in Advertising revenue. Cloud, the hyper-growth segment, increased revenue by 30%, with noted strength in infrastructure and generative services. Margin news is equally good, with gross and operating margins improving more than expected compared to last year. The net result is a 500 basis point improvement in operating margin and leveraged 31%, 28%, and 31% increases in operating and net income and GAAP earnings. Contrary to the top-line weakness, GAAP earnings outpaced the consensus and will likely remain strong in 2025. AI aids growth in business demand and Alphabet’s operational quality. The overshadowing detail is the guidance. Alphabet didn’t give specific guidance but noted two headwinds impacting results in Q1, FX conversion, and lapping leap year in 2024. The FX conversion issue will plague S&P 500 companies with international exposure in 2025 but is ultimately good for their businesses. The stronger U.S. dollar will aid demand for foreign goods and drive economic activity globally. As for leap year, it will impact reported results but has no bearing on fundamentals, which indicates momentum will continue to build in 205. Alphabet’s AI Infrastructure Build-out Equals Value for Investors Alphabet’s lean into AI infrastructure is clearly seen in the balance sheet highlights, which include reduced cash offset by increased property, total assets, and equity. Equity is up 15% yearly and is expected to continue to rise due to the cash flow. The company logged a negative cash flow year in 2024 but barely, with the deficit due to CapEx and the balance sheet being a fortress. The cash position is down compared to last year but still ample, and leverage remains low, with long-term debt down and running near 0.03x equity. Total liability, the more significant factor, is less than 0.5x equity, leaving the company in a robust financial condition. Most analysts responded by lowering their price targets, but the sentiment is bullish. The reduced targets align with the pre-release consensus, which forecasts a 10% upside at the consensus. The outlier is Rosenblatt Securities, which raised its target and also aligned with the consensus, narrowing the range. The takeaway is that sentiment is firming around the consensus target of $210, and a move to new all-time high levels is likely in 2025. The Technical Outlook: Alphabet’s Plunge Highlights Critical Support Level Alphabet’s post-release price plunge shaved nearly 10% off the market value but highlights a critical support target. That target is the all-time high set in July 2024 and is potentially very strong. A move below this level could keep the market range bound or even send it into a reversal, which is unexpected. The likely scenario is a short to mid-length consolidation followed by new highs later this year. Stock gains signal calm, but heed Fed officials Stock gains signal calm, but heed Fed officials The seal of the U.S. Federal Reserve Board of Governors near the Marriner S. Eccles Federal Reserve building in Washington, D.C., U.S., on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. Samuel Corum | Bloomberg | Getty Images If investors were to judge the stability of the economy by looking at the stock market, its two-day winning streak might lead investors to think that it’s business as usual. The market’s response to corporate earnings would also support that thesis. Investors are selling off companies that didn’t meet their expectations, such as Google-parent Alphabet and Advanced Micro Devices, and flocking to firms that they think will do even better in the future, like Palantir. (Whether that’s a fair, or even realistic, belief is up for debate – but it’s certainly not out of the ordinary.) But U.S. Federal Reserve policymakers are being unusually open about their concerns over the potential impact of tariffs. If investors listen to them, they will perhaps find that the calm in markets is deceptive. What you need to know today Fed policymakers open upIn recent days, multiple Fed policymakers, such as Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee and Boston Fed President Susan Collins, have not only noted the uncertainty surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, but have also highlighted the potential impact on inflation. That’s a break from Fed officials’ typical stance of not commenting on fiscal policy, suggesting that tariffs could have serious effects on the U.S. economy. Stocks are up amid week’s turmoilU.S. stocks climbed on Wednesday for back-to-back gains. The S&P 500 rose 0.39%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.71% and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.19%. Sharp drops in Google and AMD were offset by a 5.2% jump in Nvidia. Asia-Pacific markets mostly rose Thursday. India’s Nifty 50 index, however, dipped around 0.4% ahead of the central bank’s interest rate decision on Friday, when it’s expected to cut rates. Google Gemini 2.0Google on Wednesday released Gemini 2.0, its latest artificial intelligence model suite, to the public. It’s part of Google’s strategy of investing heavily into AI agents — which can complete complex multistep tasks on a user’s behalf, rather than a user having to walk them through every individual step. Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic are also moving toward agentic AI as companies try to gain an edge over competitors. Huawei’s jump in annual revenueHuawei’s revenue came in at more than 860 billion yuan ($118.27 billion) for 2024, Chairman Howard Liang said Wednesday, according to local state media. That’s a 22% year-on-year jump from 2023 and the fastest growth since 2016, according to CNBC calculations of public numbers. Huawei’s smartphone shipments in mainland China surged by 37% last year, superseding Apple in market share, according to Canalys data. Qualcomm sees growth in automotivesQualcomm reported on Wednesday fiscal first-quarter revenue of $11.67 billion, beating expectations and up 18% from $9.92 billion a year ago. Net income increased 15% to $3.18 billion from $2.77 billion a year earlier. However, its shares fell more than 4.6% in extended trading. Investors were concerned that revenue from Qualcomm’s licensing business would remain flat, Reuters said. [PRO] Palantir’s valuation unrealistic?Palantir shares surged 24% on Tuesday to a record high after reporting stronger-than-expected fourth quarter results and guidance. Even though the stock gave up some of those gains on Wednesday, the software company’s valuation appears way out of market fundamentals. CNBC Pro’s John Melloy and Christopher Hayes explain why. Economists expect the country’s central bank to lower its repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25% on Friday, when its policy meeting concludes. If the RBI does lower rates, it will be the first cut in nearly five years. Upheaval Dome: Utah’s Mysterious Crater That Still Puzzles Scientists Upheaval Dome: Utah’s Mysterious Crater That Still Puzzles Scientists A striking geological structure in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, has remained the subject of scientific debate for decades. Upheaval Dome, a rock formation with jagged ridges forming concentric circles, spans approximately 5 kilometres across and rises 300 metres. The site has drawn attention due to conflicting theories regarding its origin. While many researchers believe it resulted from a meteorite impact around 60 million years ago, others suggest an underground salt dome may have played a role in shaping the formation. Evidence such as shocked quartz crystals found at the site has been cited in support of the impact hypothesis, yet alternative explanations persist. Impact Crater or Salt Dome? The Competing Theories According to research conducted on the site, the meteorite impact theory suggests that a large extraterrestrial body struck the region, creating a bowl-shaped depression. Over time, the surrounding rock collapsed inward, and the central area may have rebounded, leading to the ridged structure visible today. The presence of shocked quartz, a mineral deformation typically associated with high-energy impacts, has reinforced this hypothesis. As reported by Live Science, in contrast, an alternate explanation involving salt tectonics has been presented by geologists. A significant layer of ancient salt deposits lies beneath southeastern Utah’s sandstone formations. Due to its lower density, salt is known to move and push upwards, potentially creating a dome-like structure beneath the overlying rock. As erosion took place over millions of years, remnants of this geological process may be what remains visible in the landscape today. If this theory is correct, Upheaval Dome would be considered one of the deepest eroded salt structures on Earth. Scientific Investigation Remains Ongoing While the discovery of shocked quartz has provided strong evidence for the impact theory, no conclusive determination has been made regarding the dome’s origins. Reports indicate that no recent studies have definitively resolved the debate, leaving room for continued research into one of Utah’s most enigmatic formations. Archaeologists Just Found the Oldest Rune Stone Ever Discovered Archaeologists Just Found the Oldest Rune Stone Ever Discovered Fragments of the oldest rune stone in the world were found in an ancient Norwegian burial ground Inscriptions on the stones were determined to be the earliest known form of runic writing, which could hint at the largely unknown origins of runes The stones are actually broken off from the same slab of rock, even though they were in different graves, prompting questions as to what they were intended for In an Iron Age burial ground surrounded by towering pines, rock fragments from the past have surfaced, and the faintly visible runes inscribed on them are whispering more to us about the practices and rituals of a civilization long since vanished. It is rare to find a rune stone with early forms of runic writing. Now, pieces of sandstone from the Svingerud burial field in Hole, Norway, are thought to be the oldest rune stones in the world. Archaeologist Steinar Solheim, of the University of Oslo, and his team of researchers found that the approximately 2,000-year-old pieces had been broken off a single stone and possibly engraved by multiple individuals. There is some uncertainty on what the runes actually say—and if all the markings are meant to be letters. “The Hole rune-stone is distinctive due to its multiple runic sequences and other visual elements,” the team said in a study recently published in Antiquity. “Some ambiguous markings illustrate the challenging distinctions drawn between early writing and non-writing.” While the origins of runic writing are shrouded in mystery, its earliest form is known as the older futhark, which matches the runes carved on the Hole rock specimens. Radiocarbon dating of cremated human remains, charcoal, and artifacts from the graves where these rock fragments were found determined that they must have been inscribed from about 50 BC and 275 AD. Further analysis of the inscriptions involved identifying the characteristics of the runes and how they compared to other runic writing from around the same time *******. Solheim found that some of the rune sequences, which may have been intended as epigraphs, translated to words in the early Ancient Nordic Language. Others remained unclear. The writing on one of the fragments, Hole 2, is particularly interesting because it reads “idiberug.” This may be a reference to the deceased or something else entirely. “One possible interpretation is a compounded female name Idibergu,” the researchers said in the same study, “[and] the second element ‘bergu’ may correspond to…a feminine noun meaning ‘help’; ‘protection’; ‘relief’; ‘shelter.’” “Idi” was traced back to a word that refers to something recurring or everlasting. This could be a link to the afterlife, or even a sign that the writer was a woman. Also, whether the name Idibergu was misspelled on the stone, or the word was meant to be “idiberug” for a different reason, can be debated. The rune that translates to the “g” at the end could have also been ornamental or an early form of another rune that is not recognizable. Meanings and contexts of this and other words on the fragments are still vague. Another enigma surrounds the Hole fragments. They were originally recovered from different graves and pieced together to reveal a slab of rock that had been purposely broken into pieces for an unknown reason. What possible uses did these rune stones have, and why were they fragmented? Rune stones were often used as gravestones with inscriptions that memorialized the dead. The scientists think that it is possible that the Hole stones started as one grave marker, which was later broken into pieces and used for later burials, possibly for members of the same family. This offers a viable explanation for why it appears to have been written on by more than one person. However, a specific reason for the breaking of the stones and their use still eludes Solheim. “The recorded [runic writing] may show some early variants of runes, used on stone,” he said. “[They] will necessitate new assessments of other early rune-stones and their relative chronologies in future research.” Someday, the meanings of these mysterious epigraphs may finally be set in stone. Ange confident Tel will sign permanently with Spurs Ange confident Tel will sign permanently with Spurs Mathys Tel will join Tottenham Hotspur permanently after his loan from Bayern Munich ends this season, manager Ange Postecoglou said ahead of the second leg of their League Cup semi-final at Liverpool. Tel joined Bayern from Stade Rennes in 2022 on a four-year deal and extended his contract to 2029 in March last year. He has scored 16 goals in 83 appearances for the ******* club, but has struggled to find a place in the starting side. Tel made 14 appearances for Bayern this season but failed to score. Postecoglou said the 19-year-old would play a significant role at Spurs this season and beyond, adding Tel is eager to make a lasting impact in the team. “Tel will be a Tottenham player. I think he will show everyone he will be a Tottenham player in the next six months. I didn’t bring him here for six months,” the *********** coach told reporters on Wednesday. Asked how he convinced Tel to join his side on deadline day, Postecoglou said: “It is not about smooth talking or selling. There is a good story here that I really believe in.” Spurs have been busy in the mid-season transfer window, signing young players like Tel, 26-year-old defender Kevin Danso and 21-year-old goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to bolster their injury-depleted squad. “(In) all these decisions, I’m as much a driver as the club. No one has been thrust upon me who I don’t think is going to fit,” Postecoglou added. Pressure is mounting on Postecoglou as Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League, having managed one win in 11 league games before Sunday’s crucial 2-0 victory at Brentford. Asked if the transfer business offered some security to his job, Postecoglou said such assurances did not exist for managers these days. “I feel like the playing group is rock solid, the staff are rock solid, I feel supported and that’s all I can ask for,” he added. “Where that takes us, time will tell. I firmly believe it will take us to success. But there’s no guarantees.” Spurs will take a 1-0 advantage into their second-leg semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield, with the winner progressing to meet Newcastle at Wembley. Apple’s M5 chip could arrive soon — but not in the device you expect Apple’s M5 chip could arrive soon — but not in the device you expect When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: Getty Images Apple’s next-gen M5 chip could launch sooner than you might think, but probably not in the device you’d expect. It’s been over six months since Apple launched the M4 chip in the iPad Pro on May 7, 2024. Since then, the M4 chip has also made its way into the MacBook Pro, but has yet to arrive on the MacBook Air. Despite that, Apple is already getting the M5 chip ready for launch. Here’s a look at the latest update on Apple’s M5 chip, when it could launch, and what devices we’ll see it in first. Apple M5 chip enters mass production On Wednesday, South Korean technology news outlet ET News reported that Apple’s M5 chip has entered mass production in Taiwan. The report also indicates that mass production will be taking place sequentially with “USA Amco and China JCET.” This appears to be a reference to Amkor, which struck a deal with Apple in 2023 to produce its chips at a new facility in Arizona. Apple is already producing some of its mobile chips, including the A16 processor, in the U.S., but this is an apt time for Apple to move even more of its production stateside given the looming threat of import tariffs. Of course, at the time of writing, the Amkor facility is only completing the packaging part of the chip production process, meaning Apple still relies on components from manufacturing partners overseas. The ET News report doesn’t shed much light on the exact details or specs of any of the M5 chips, but it does highlight an increased emphasis on AI. That’s to be expected considering Apple launched its on-device AI platform, Apple Intelligence, at WWDC 2024 back in June. Apple Intelligence is still rolling out, but Apple is clearly working to keep up with its competitors’ AI offerings, such as Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC line-up. Apple M5 release date: Which devices will get the M5 chip first? If these rumors are true and the M5 chip has entered mass production, the next question is when will it launch? Perhaps even more important, what device will get the M5 chip first? The answer may leave some Apple fans disappointed, unfortunately. Current rumors indicate that the iPad Pro will most likely be the first device to get the M5 chip. This was also the case with the M4 chip, which launched with the new iPad Pro in May 2024. One might expect Apple to launch its new chips with the MacBook Pro instead, which was the case for the M1, M2, and M3 chips, but apparently the iPad Pro will be leading the charge for now. According to reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPad Pro M5 will be entering mass production in the second half of 2025, so we could see the M5 chip launch by the end of the year. That’s later than last year’s May M4 launch, but it’s always possible this rumor is off and Apple is still eyeing another May launch window for the M5 chip. After the iPad Pro, we should see the M5 chip in the MacBook Pro next, probably in late 2025, followed by the MacBook Air in 2026. An M5-powered Vision Pro successor is also possible, although Apple’s headset strategy is a bit up in the air right now following the cancellation of its AR smart glasses project. We’re keeping a close eye on all things Apple, so stay tuned for more updates on the M5 chip, the new iPad Pro, and the M5 MacBooks. LA residents chase down, stop possible arson suspect: ‘Wrong neighborhood, buddy’ LA residents chase down, stop possible arson suspect: ‘Wrong neighborhood, buddy’ The Brief Concerned residents in Chatsworth, California, tackled and performed a citizen’s arrest on suspected arsonist Alejandro Martinez after a nearby brush fire. LA County Sheriff’s deputies arrived quickly, and Martinez, who was found with a lighter, is set to appear in court on February 5, 2025. LOS ANGELES – A suspected arsonist had no chance of escaping justice when concerned residents took action, tackling him to the ground and performing a citizen’s arrest in Chatsworth, California. Brandon Taylor, a photographer with Traffic News LA, captured the intense moment. “It’s one of those moments where you’re filming, and you’re like, ‘Wait, is this really happening in real life right now?'” he said. Within seconds, LA County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and took over the situation. The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Alejandro Martinez, could be heard protesting in Spanish: “No he robado nada, en serio” — “I haven’t stolen anything, seriously.” But theft wasn’t what had the residents concerned. Taylor, who had responded to a small brush fire earlier that day, noticed Martinez behaving suspiciously nearby. The fire had ignited around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3, in the 24,000 block of Woolsey Canyon Road and was quickly extinguished by firefighters. However, the presence of Martinez in the brush, clad in ****** and appearing to ignite something, raised alarms. “It just seemed a little strange that there was a guy there after a brush fire was reported just a quarter-mile up the road,” Taylor explained. “And he’s in the bush doing something.” When deputies searched Martinez, they found a lighter in his pocket, a small sum of cash, and a car battery jumper kit. Given the devastating history of wildfires in the area, including the Woolsey Fire, residents did not hesitate to subdue him. “The residents were furious,” Taylor added. “They’ve gone through the Woolsey Fire, which started just a mile from there. With all the dry vegetation, they were really concerned about him starting another fire and losing their homes.” As Martinez lay on the ground, one resident could be heard declaring: “Wrong neighborhood, buddy! Wrong neighborhood!” Martinez is set to appear in court on Wednesday, February 5. Authorities urge anyone with information about this case to contact the LA County Sheriff’s Department. MIT’s CuRVE Technique Achieves Uniform Protein Labeling in Intact Tissues MIT’s CuRVE Technique Achieves Uniform Protein Labeling in Intact Tissues Researchers have introduced an advanced method for labeling proteins in intact tissues, addressing a longstanding challenge in biological research. The technique, designed to ensure even distribution of antibodies across entire organs, has been demonstrated across multiple tissue types. This approach could significantly improve the accuracy of cellular studies by preserving tissue structure while enabling more precise protein detection. Scientists expect the method to aid in the study of complex biological systems, providing insights into cellular functions without altering the natural architecture of tissues. Breakthrough in Protein Labeling According to a study published in Nature Biotechnology, the technique, known as continuous redispersion of volumetric equilibrium (CuRVE), was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The research team, led by Kwanghun Chung, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and Neuroscience at MIT, tested the method on various biological samples, including rodent and human tissues. By controlling the speed of antibody-antigen interactions and enhancing molecular diffusion through stochastic electrotransport, the process allowed for uniform protein labeling in a fraction of the time required by conventional methods. Addressing Limitations of Conventional Methods Traditional approaches such as immunohistochemistry often fail to achieve uniform protein distribution due to the size of labeling molecules. The antibodies tend to concentrate near the surface while failing to penetrate deeper layers, leading to uneven labeling. Speaking to MIT News, Chung compared the challenge to marinating a thick cut of meat, where only the outer layers absorb the marinade effectively. He explained that the large size of labeling molecules makes uniform penetration extremely difficult, requiring prolonged processing times. Efficient and Scalable Application The researchers demonstrated that their CuRVE technique, combined with electrophoretic-fast labeling using affinity sweeping in hydrogel (eFLASH), significantly improved antibody penetration. Tests on an adult mouse brain showed that conventional methods resulted in uneven labeling, while eFLASH produced uniform staining across all neurons. Similar success was observed in tissues from other species, including marmoset and human brain samples, as well as mouse embryos, lungs, and hearts. Comparison with Genetic Labeling As reported by The Scientist, the key advantage of this technique over transgenic labeling was highlighted in the study. While genetic methods rely on fluorescent markers linked to gene transcription, protein expression does not always correlate directly with gene activity. Researchers found significant discrepancies when comparing transgenic labeling with eFLASH, emphasizing the need for direct protein detection. The findings suggest that genetic labeling alone may not be sufficient for accurately studying protein distribution in tissues. Future Implications Scientists anticipate that CuRVE will contribute to the creation of a comprehensive repository of protein expression patterns across different tissue types. This could serve as a reference for studying diseased tissues and refining diagnostic methods. Researchers believe that by improving protein visualization at the cellular level, the technique may enhance the understanding of various biological processes, potentially influencing future medical and scientific applications.
